Donut Hole - Chapter 19
Plant Life
I saw a ghost on the stairs And sheets on the tables and chairs The silverware swam with the sharks in the sink Even so, I don't know what to think
I've been longing for daisies to push through the floor And I wish plant life would grow all around me So, I won't feel dead anymore So, I won't feel dead anymore - Plant Life, Owl City
[In which Laventon is MVP, and Dawn feels a bit betrayed.
[ao3 link]
Not quite out of the woods yet…but soon :) I do have ideas for a sequel fic, btw. But we're not there yet. And! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY POKEMON LEGENDS ARCEUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAN!!!! Thanks for sending me back down a hyperfixation rabbithole that has somehow gotten me into buying retro Pokemon Games and DS consoles!]
Dawn turned towards Deertrack heights. “Help! Please!! He won’t wake up- please! ”
She knew someone would come eventually. Either from atop Deetrack heights or from Jubilife - she could’ve sworn Palina and the Professor were just behind her.
Someone was bound to help.
Someone had to be nearby to answer some questions at the very least.
How long had Barry been in Hisui? Why was he in such a rough shape? What had happened to him? Why hadn’t anyone told her? Sure, maybe she wasn’t exactly friends with the Wardens and Leaders, but didn’t they trust her? Didn’t Adaman and Irida listen to her sobs about Barry? Surely they would’ve remembered…
When she called for help, Dawn did not expect the metaphorical avalanche of people and pokemon that began descending down the hill.
Leading the charge was a strange pokemon, one that was strangely familiar but equally as alien. Dawn could recognize the traits of a ralts evolution when she saw one, but this was…not right. Somehow both, somehow neither.
Regardless of what it was, it was tearing down the mountain like a crobat out of hell with murder in its eyes.
Running directly at her-!
Dawn yelped, trying to move her body to shield Barry from whatever this pokemon was going to do.
Luckily, her bag shifted as one of her pokeballs forced itself open.
Her Alpha Lopunny, Daffodil.
The charging pokemon came to a skidding halt just before her and the Lopunny, the two engaged in a fierce, yet silent stand-off. The Gardevoir-Gallade stood, bristling with barely contained anger.
It moved to attack, what looked to be a close combat. But the rabbit was faster with her own attack, play rough. It was clear just from the Mystery Pokemon’s expression that it did not expect the attack, and that it was very painful.
And yet, it charged again. Hellbent on attacking her for whatever reason-
It clicked. This was Barry’s pokemon.
“Daffodil, st-” she began to say, but there was no stopping Daffodil now. Not in the heat of combat. The lopunny ducked under the punch that the Gallade-Gardevoir tried to throw and threw her own.
The second play rough hit just as hard as the first. The Gallade-Gardevoir stumbled back, trying hard to stay standing. But its legs buckled, and it collapsed to its knees. Finally, it fell onto the ground.
The pokemon was unconscious, for now.
It did not stop the horde currently coming their way.
Lord Adaman and Mai arrived first, on the back of Wyrdeer. Adaman began to say something along the lines of ‘put the boy down’, but was unable to finish. Unfortunately for Adaman, he was swiftly descended upon by an Alpha Honchkrow.
The rest of the Wardens and Nobles were subsequently attacked by seemingly rogue pokemon - the aforementioned honchkrow, a snover, a prinplup, and a shiny mothim. Some of these pokemon weren’t native to the Fieldlands, how far had they traveled to get here? Why were they so aggressive?
Dawn’s head was swimming with questions. So much was happening all at once. Trying to decide on what to do first was difficult, but she settled on quelling the furious rogues.
The enormous rabbit slowly turned to Dawn with her wide, unblinking eyes, waiting for commands.
It was honestly a miracle that she listened to Dawn at all. If she had to guess, it must be a 50/50 chance. A flip of the coin.
Dawn glanced over at the chaos, seeing the Honchkrow grab a large chunk of Adaman’s hair in its beak and starting to yank. But upon noticing her, the enormous bird let him go and started to head her way.
“Take out that Honchkrow!”
Flip of the coin. Heads.
Daffodil rubbed her paws together, creating the static electricity needed for a Thunderpunch.
Diving down, talons raised to swipe at Dawn, the honchkrow was either oblivious to the incoming attack, or maybe it thought it could take the damage.
Either way, Daffodil slammed her fist into the bird’s stomach, knocking the large bird out of the sky with her electrical attack.
Daffodil watched the honchkrow fall to the ground, then turned her dark eyes to the other rogue pokemon. She needed no instruction for what else needed to be done.
With blazing speed she surged into the crowd, readying her paws for more of her signature punches.
Palina and Iscan caught up to the chaos, Lord Arcanine whining as he slowed to a stop.
“Such chaos, caused by a single child-” Palina began to say.
“Why didn't you tell me?” Asked Dawn, voice trembling with hurt feelings and fear. “Why didn't you tell me sooner?”
Palina looked into the girl’s tear-filled eyes, mouth open…but nothing came out. She tried again, glancing at Iscan for support, but words still evaded her.
Daffodil made quick work of the Snover with a drain punch, tossing the unconscious pokemon next to the honchkrow. The prinplup and mothim had noticed that their comrades were swiftly falling to the fluffy behemoth, and switched targets to attack the lopunny instead.
Adaman and Irida could finally approach Dawn without risk of being attacked. “Dawn, oh thank Sinnoh you’re here!” said Irida as she dismounted.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked again, hoping for an actual answer. “You knew! You knew! And you kept me in the dark! Why didn’t you tell me?!”
Irida shut her mouth faster than a shellder at that. “Because…” Adaman started to say, looking apologetic. “Because we weren’t totally sure. And I didn’t want to raise your hopes in case it wasn’t.”
Dawn tried to blink away tears, turning away to not look at them.
Finally, Laventon and Rei, her saviors, arrived. The professor was panting and sweating, but here nonetheless. “R-Right…right…now, what’s…all the fuss?”
He placed a hand on Dawn’s shoulder (or was he using her as support? Either way, she appreciated the gesture) and looked at Barry. “Good God, he’s in a state, isn’t he? This is him, right?”
“Yes, yes, and he might be dangerous-” Irida tried again. “Please, Dawn, put him down-”
“No! No no! He’s not dangerous! He’s my friend! He wouldn’t hurt a beautifly- he’s hurt! He’s hurt!”
Palina felt the need to step in again, finally finding her voice. “Don’t treat the boy like a criminal, Irida, look at him. He’s completely unconscious.”
The rest of the clans cautiously approached now that they weren’t being harassed by rogue pokemon. (Daffodil had defeated the prinplup and quickly added it to the pile, and was now chasing after the mothim).
“He is a criminal!” Melli shot back, despite not being part of this conversation, “Remember the damage he caused?! Our settlement under rubble? Your settlement on fire?!”
“Melli. Hush.” Ingo hissed.
Everyone was talking now, including people she hadn’t even met before. It was all blurring together into a horrible white noise. Dawn started to hyperventilate, squeezing Barry tight. If he were awake, he’d be trying to comfort her, trying to pull her away.
But he was unconscious in her arms, and no one was helping him.
“Professor Laventon.” Dawn pleaded, tears threatening to roll down her cheeks. “We need to take him to Jubilife, please.” When she squeezed Barry tight, she could feel his ribs and his spine, something she never could before.
“Here, let me take him-” Laventon began to say, holding out his hands to take the boy.
“No!” shouted Dawn, squeezing Barry tighter. “He did all of this for me! I’m not letting him go!”
He had traveled across time and space for her. He had traveled all over Hisui for her. He had worked himself down to exhaustion just for her.
Laventon knew very well that Dawn was close to her breaking point. He needed to get her away from all of this chaos, all of the yelling, all of the stress. Maybe then she’d be more comfortable with separating from her injured friend.
He clapped his hands together, speaking above the crowd.. “I think the Wardens should return to their settlements then! You clearly have some troubles back home, and I do think we can take it from here.”
He didn’t wait for an answer before gently taking Dawn by the shoulders and beginning to lead her away. “Come, come. That’s it, my girl. Let’s go back home.”
Then, Laventon looked over his shoulder to the clan leaders, mouthing harshly, “You two. Come WITH.”
“Lu- Rei. Rei . ” Dawn shimmied Barry in her grip to grab his bag, handing it off to her fellow survey corps member. “I think….those pokemon are his…can you see if they have pokeballs?”
Rei frowned. “How would a stranger know how pokeballs work?”
“I just…have a feeling he used them. He's very smart. Daffy! Daffy we’re leaving!”
Daffodil the lopunny tossed the unconscious Mothim onto the pile with a satisfied huff. Job completed, she parted the crowd of nobles and wardens to follow.
Mai crossed her arms. “Well, Adaman? Irida? What are we doing now? The boy seems to be in decent hands now. I doubt he has the capacity to do any damage in that state.”
“And if so, it’s definitely not our problem.” Gaeric added.
Irida hesitated. Adaman did not. “I think Laventon said it best. Return to the settlements, we'll take it from here.”
Sabi smirked, “Have fun explaining this to Kamado!”
Jubilife had barely recovered from the surprise visit of Lord Arcanine when the survey team - flanked by both clan leaders and a giant rabbit - returned.
Zisu was first to greet them. “You all caused quite the stir! Kamado is furious! Breaking our gates like that?” she shook her head. “I hope you all have a good excuse, or I honestly think he might start spitting fire.”
Laventon spoke first between panting breaths. “If you’d please…go tell Pesselle…we have a young boy in need…of medical attention.”
Zisu glanced down at Barry in Dawn’s arms. “...who is that? You know what? Doesn’t matter. Let’s get him to Pesselle. But you need to explain this to Kamado and Cyllene. I’m not risking my head getting bit off.”
Dawn made a quiet noise of fear. Laventon rested a hand on her back, speaking softly, “My girl, everything will be just fine, I will make absolute sure of it. Let’s get your friend to Pesselle, and she’ll fix him right up.”
Zisu jogged ahead, with the group following close behind.
The doors to the Galaxy Hall swung open. Adaman and Irida stepped inside, but before Dawn could enter, Laventon stopped her. “My dear girl. We can take it from here.”
Dawn shifted from foot to foot, glancing down at Barry's face. He looked dirty and scraped up and thin.
“B-But professor-”
“I know. I know. But I want you to go home and relax. Because once we get your friend into the medical wing, Kamado will want an explanation.” he said in a reassuring hush.
The idea of speaking to the terrifying force that was Commander Kamado was enough to cause Dawn’s face to drain of all color.
“Exactly. And quite frankly, you are completely innocent in this whole mess. The Leaders are the ones who kept this whole thing to themselves, and it spiraled out of control. You did nothing wrong.”
She squeezed Barry tight. For a moment, it felt like he was squeezing her back. “...can you promise me he'll be OK?”
Laventon nodded. “My dear girl, I won't let anything happen to him. I'll take him straight to Pesselle, and when things are settled down, you'll be the first to know.”
Dawn finally relented, carefully handing off Barry to professor Laventon. “He’s…lighter than I expected! Thank goodness for that!” Laventon said, trying to crack a joke.
“Why don’t you wait in your home. Rei or myself will come get you when everything is settled, alright?”
Dawn’s lopunny nudged her with a soft rumble, giving the girl a lick on her head, trying its best to be comforting. She took the offer, absentmindedly stroking its long ears. “O-OK professor. I’ll…I’ll go wait. Everything will be fine?”
Laventon nodded with a smile. “Everything will be fine.”

Whumptober* Day 14: “I’ll be right behind you”
*I tried. I really did. I just hit “The Powers That Were Trying His Nerves” and couldn’t take myself seriously anymore.
@blaiddraws, someday I’ll write something for one of your AUs that’s not ridiculous fluff, but alas, today is for Worm Shenanigans.
---
There were certain inevitabilities in life.
The commuter who only just made his train to Humilau every morning, the annual Nimbasa blackout as Elesa’s ambition tripped the power grid, the departure and return of Casteliacones-- all of these events were guaranteed to happen, though the time frames varied between them.
Another constant was this: Ingo picked a direction and Emmet followed him.
It sounded odd, imbalanced even, but it really wasn’t. Ingo was too fair-minded to chart an inequitable path, and Emmet had no compunctions about raising an objection if need be. If anything, it was a game of give and take, of compromises. It was a substantial part of how they had ended up running the Battle Subway.
There was exactly one place Ingo had ventured where Emmet had been unable to join him, but, as always, he’d split the difference. While Emmet still wished he’d been able to accompany his brother on the unplanned commute to Hisui, the fact that it had been a round trip lessened the sting.
It was a strange homecoming, but not a bad one. There was a lot that had to change to accommodate their new lives, and a lot to adjust to or reacquaint oneself with; that was just the nature of things when you or a loved one was reincarnated as a soul-powered train. For every weird or uncomfortable new quirk, there were ways to alleviate that burden or find the fun in it, and there were plenty of perks mixed in. It was life-- just a new spin on it.
From the day he’d figured out who, precisely, was haunting the subway tunnels, Emmet had set his course.
As always, he followed his twin’s lead. It just took a little longer this time.
That was a nice way of saying that, when he passed, he turned right back around and demanded to become a second Frightrail. He knew the drawbacks; he’d been right there to witness them for years on end. While he might not relish the idea of drawing sustenance from others’ life force, he’d come to terms with that reality. Having a completely different body type would be a learning experience, but was it so much worse than moving on without his brother? No.
When it came down to it, that was the answer to every tricky question. He could endure it. They could endure it as a--
...could they be a two car train if they were both trains? Did one’s existence as a literal train preclude their ability to be a metaphorical car?
The Powers That Were Trying His Nerves stared for a long moment, processing, and then decided to wash Its hooves of him. Or at least, he assumed that was what happened. Something had to have occurred, because he blinked and then everything looked wrong.
Well, maybe not wrong, but weird. Even before reaching up to scrub at the rounded snout changing his field of vision, Emmet understood why that was-- again, he’d put years of thought into this, even if he’d made his decision all but immediately-- it was just… a lot at once. At least he had the luxury of knowing what he’d been getting himself into. Having an older sibling was convenient like that.
Speaking of.
He stopped pawing at his steel-smooth nose and looked around. Seemed Arceus had seen fit to plonk him in the park across from the station. Truthfully, Emmet hadn’t expected anything in particular, so this destination made as much sense as anything else. While it would have lived up the classic image of a ghost to rise where he’d died, he really didn’t need that kind of drama in his afterlife; he’d passed at home, and, logically, that space belonged to someone else now.
...he should go haunt the tunnels, just to see how Ingo liked playing worm wrangler.
Emmet made to push himself upright, but only made it so far as the first set of arms, lacking any of the tertiary pairs that studded each segment of plating. Right, they stayed dormant by default, didn’t they? He knew the sections of his body could slide apart to bring them out, but how exactly did one go about doing that…?
Maybe he should have asked some more pointed questions when he’d had the opportunity.
Eventually, he gave up on the ghost limbs, but with some trial and error, managed to wriggle himself into the air, and that would do for now. He stayed lower to the ground than strictly necessary for a host of reasons, ranging from ‘less noticeable’ to ‘not as far to fall’ to ‘feels more train-like’.
He was well aware that there wouldn’t be anyone at Gear Station so early in the morning-- not since Jackie had retired-- but it was home station for a reason, perhaps now more than ever. Even if he couldn’t make the staff understand what he wanted, all he had to do was wait around and he’d get it.
It wound up somewhat easier than he’d expected; even with the late hour, the station master’s office was occupied.
Blatantly ignoring the yellowed sign asking that patrons ‘not tap the glass, because the station master was sleeping’, he nosed it open and barged right in. Then Emmet did something that, were he alive, would have gone against the very fabric of his moral code: he deliberately caused a collision of trains.
With a sleepy hiss, his victim cracked an eye open, then chuffed a yawn.
“How long has it been?” He asked, nudging insistently at his brother’s face, “Do not tell me you were asleep all this time.”
“’All this time’? I can make assumptions, too, you realize. You’ve been here… hm… seven minutes, and you’re already jumping to conclusions.” Ingo rumbled, amused. His voice was raspy with disuse, and he didn’t even bother opening his other eye. Combined, it told Emmet that yes, he’d been asleep for awhile.
Magnanimously, he decided to ignore the comment, “You taunted me for days, before. And this time you decided to take a nap?”
His twin finally resigned himself to consciousness and ducked under Emmet’s head, giving himself room to stretch the first set of arms. “I’ve told you, the circumstances were nerve-wracking; it only turned into a game because that was the track you chose.”
Emmet grumbled his malcontent, and, to his surprise, it echoed in his throat. Before he had the chance to fully process that fact, Ingo raised his head, bumping against his.
“I assisted for a time, but it wasn’t fun in your absence. This seemed the easiest solution.”
Oh, it was a matter of fun was it? He could work with that. Eyes darting this way and that, he picked a quarry and escape route. When Ingo seemed distracted untangling himself, Emmet lunged forward and gave the tip of his tail a yank before scurrying off toward platform 3.
There was a bark of outrage that quickly condensed into:
“Your form is terrible!”
A delighted whistle escaped him and, without turning back, he called:
“Then you had better come correct me!”
The air displaced behind him, a secondary presence emerging from the slipstream he’d carved. There was a tug on his tail just before Ingo pulled up to his side.
“Honestly,” He huffed, nudging at Emmet’s spectral arm, “You studied aerodynamics; you should be aware of how inefficient this is.”
The plating slid shut at the contact and, unbalanced by his arms’ sudden exit, Emmet wobbled in the air. As he sped up, Ingo pressed their sides together, steadying him until he was the one leading, purposefully cutting a path through the air for Emmet to follow.
Well that just proved it: two cars to a train, irregardless of the number of sub-trains within.
Some things simply did not change.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Theories Part 1: Setting and Plotline
Setting/ Time Period
With Arceus being sent in, the time period Z-A wasn’t even shown or mentioned. So, this is just guesswork.
One of the first visual has a document about a redevelopment plan focusing Lumiose City.
If you look up ‘Paris redevelopment’, you’ll find this information.
Haussmann’s redevelopment of Paris during the late 1800s to early 1900s was focused on tearing old buildings. While in the past the project was met with negative publicity from the public leading to Haussmann being fired, it made Paris what it is today with its architecture’s being famous and popular. If the redevelopment plan is the main plot focus, maybe we’ll be a member of the redevelopment committee trying to convince the people of Lumiose City to trust us to repair their city.
Unfortunately, this means we won’t see the Kalos War from 3000 years ago. Guess the fanfics will have another plot.
But, there are some people who believed it will take a different approach and have Z-A take place in the future. There is some evidence of this with there being two maps of Lumiose City near the end of the trailer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the first one has more detail and a holographic look to it, the second has a old feel with black lines and only the outline. Scarlet and Violet have a theme of past and future with the professors and legendaries and DLCs.
Maybe, the game will have the player travel through the two timelines to progress the story.
The future city has another war in Kalos, not only destroying almost the entire region, forcing people to evacuate to Lumiose or a alternate universe where the ultimate weapon fired successfully leaving the region devastated with only Lumiose City left.
Something might happen to the player that causes them to go to past Kalos in order to stop the ultimate weapon from destroying the region.
A New Organization
As I pointed out in a earlier post, there was a strange logo that was shown subtly throughout the trailer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks like a 4 pointed star with a loop around. It doesn’t look like the Team Flare logo, so it is possible it is a new organization that may be good like the Galaxy Exploration Team. The trailer implies they’ll be the main one doing the redevelopment of Lumiose City with their logo being on a document at the start and end of the teaser.
The Player Character/ You
One of the main differences in Arceus when compared to the mainline games is that the player Rei or Akari got transported to Hisui by Arceus in order to stop the frenzied Pokémon and seek out all Pokémon.
If the 1870s - 1890s redevelopment theory is confirmed in the next trailer, I don’t think they’ll do the time travel gimmick again and just have the protagonist be a descendant of Calem and Serena. If they want something different (and this is something I hope will happen), they’ll have gender swapped descendants of them. (Calem=Girl and Serena=Boy)
They will be a member of the redevelopment team as a lower grunt rising in the ranks
They will be a citizen of old Kalos who gets roped into the redevelopment plan by either the leader of the company or by their own peers
Like Rei and Akari, they are from the present/future and were sent by either Arceus or a different Pokémon to stop a crisis
For the rival (the one you didn’t pick), they can be a part of the company as a member or a citizen of Lumiose City who joins the company in order to help their city.
Lumiose City/How the game plays out
Like Paris the city it was inspired, Lumiose City looks like it’ll have a huge world judging by the final shots of the map of it.
However, there’s one major problem: the entire game will take place in the city. There’s no going into the wild like in Arceus to catch wild Pokémon. No going into the outdoors to get materials for crafting. Only in this entire location, the main story will play out.
Note: This was said by Nintendo, not a official person from Game Freak or Pokemon. So, until we see it confirmed, I will take it with a grain of salt.
Also, many big games like Like a Dragon/Yakuza, Final Fantasy 7, and Cyberpunk 2077 all take place in big cities in a open world format with many fun activities and side quests to do. While the quality of the games
But, there is a possibility of that Nintendo make a mistake about this claim and the city is actually a hub location like Jubilife Village was in Arceus. Although

ooh wait have you played three houses?? i saw you mentioned it in one of your recent posts and i got curious. can i ask what are your thoughts on it if you have played it?
also also, have you played pokemon scarlet/violet at all? i’d really love to hear your thoughts on it, especially with its latest dlc ^^ (super sorry i’m grouping two different games in this ask, i didn’t wanna send messages back to back, but feel free to only answer one if you want!)
Oh boy, more opportunities for me the spout nonsense and my odd opinions. I will gladly take it. Buckle up, anon and others reading, because I have a long history with both franchises.
I've been playing Fire Emblem since Fire Emblem: Awakening, then Fates, Heroes, and eventually Three Houses. My take: Awakening is still the best one, but maybe I'm biased. I remember playing it and marrying Chrom on accident, whoops.
Anyways, Three Houses was alright, better than Fates but not better than Awakening. I remember it came out, and I was actually upset because I was in another country on the US release date so I didn't get to play it until I got back. Even when I saw the trailers, I knew I was Golden Deers all the way. Odd, I know, most people prefer the other teams. Claude, Hilda, Marianne, Lysithea, my dears. OH, and before I go on, I just want to say, I hate the female MC. And no, it's not what you think, I only hate her because literally why does her outfit look like that compared to the male MC? Robin from Awakening was always the better protagonist anyways.
After completing the Golden Deers route, I decided I wanted to try and complete all the routes because at that point I disliked a huge majority of the characters. I tried Blue Lions next. At first I didn't really have much of an opinion on Dimitri, but he grew on me eventually, because how could I resist such a miserable brooding man that later gets a soft spot for one person (plus his design was kinda badass)? But I will admit, his behavior immediately post-timeskip was kinda annoying. I thought I would dislike Felix, but shockingly, I didn't, I actually liked him. And you know what? Dedue is CRIMINALLY underrated, he's literally probably the nicest and loyalest dude of all time. He got some hate for his race from some characters, and I actually got heated.
After Blue Lions, I knew I had to play through Black Eagles twice if I wanted the last two routes. However, here's the thing. In both previous routes, Golden Deer and Blue Lions, I had loathed Edelgard. But, I thought to myself, I just needed to try her route and maybe I'll change my mind... Well, I was wrong. Edelgard is probably one of the characters I HATE most in any franchise. And I tried so hard to like her, like I would give her gifts and answer dialogue truthfully, only for the relationship thing to go down. Like damn, okay. I just couldn't stand her. The others in her route were mostly fine, I liked Ferdinand, Bernadetta, Caspar, and Petra. But because of Edelgard, I couldn't even finish her route once and it's still uncompleted to this day.
Now... onto Pokemon.
Fun fact, I completed Pokemon Black and White when I was in first grade and couldn't read everything. Don't ask me how I did it, because I honestly have no clue. I've played every gen since then: Black and White 2, X and Y, Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Moon, Sword and Shield, Arceus, Scarlet and Violet. I did indeed preorder the game when it was announced, as I have done for the generations before. Where do you think my username comes from? In most pokemon games, I love collecting shiny pokemon. Shiny.
I was hyped for Scarlet and Violet since the first day it was announced. I lost my mind the day it was first announced and eagerly waited months for it. When it came out, I dropped everything for several days. As a regular fan, I always set this tradition for myself to defeat new pokemon games within or around 24 hours and of course, I did so.
The game itself has a lot of issues, namely the glitches and quality of the frames. But, it's on the switch, so that's to be expected. It felt really rushed in that aspect. I just feel like they could do so much better if they really wanted to, like on par with BOTW or TOTK (those games have bad frames too but at least they look a lot better). As for mechanics, I really missed the mechanics from Arceus, but at least Scarlet and Violet improved upon the poor excuse of the open area that was in Sword and Shield.
Story and characterwise, I'm torn.
Here's what I like: (1) the multiple split routes, (2) certain characters.
(1) It made it feel like you really had a lot to do, and that combined with the open area of the entire map made it seem like a lot. It is a lot. So it's really fun to explore and try to complete everything. Even just walking about, you're bound to get distracted, lost, or find something completely new. I was just playing it a while ago after completing everything and there were still little secrets I didn't notice the first time around.
(2) Arven, my god, do I love a guy with mommy AND daddy issues. And he has a dog? I'm hooked. I didn't expect to get attached to him, but I did. I actually prefer his route purely because of the story within it with his companion. I didn't see that coming, and I was so worked up over it. Another character I like, Director Clavell. A good supporting professor, you love to see it. Wish he showed up more though.
Here's what I dislike: (1) the villains, (2) the gym leaders, and (3) other characters, (4) the leveling system. (5) I'll talk about the dlc last.
(1) We haven't had a good villain team in a while. Black and White was super memorable with N, X and Y's Lysandre with Team Flare was a joke, Sun and Moon's Team Skull with Guzma was actually good because they were funny and non-threatening, Sword and Shield with Team Yell was actual trash, and this Team Star being bad guys but not really bad guys was actually so boring. Let's roll it back to Team Aqua literally planning to recreate a great flood or Team Magma planning to create havoc with volcanoes, Team Plasma that wanted to liberate Pokemon, or Team Galactic that were going to harness the power of time/space/universe and their leader is trapped/died in an empty dimension. They don't make Pokemon villains like they used to, huh?
(2) The gym leaders are very forgettable this time around. Like, they don't play much of a role aside battling, and after that you don't really see them again at all. It's a shame, because some of them have potential for greater use and have really good designs. Not to mention, they were all weak as hell.
(3) The Champion was a let down. Geeta (I had to look up her name). I was iffy when I first saw images of her, I didn't like her design but I just decided to go with the flow and I'll probably change my mind. I didn't. She's as forgettable of a champion as Alder and Diantha were. At least we saw Leon in the SwSh a lot and we got to hear from characters about how strong he was. Geeta wasn't like that at all, her team was a joke. Nemona as a rival was annoying, she got on my nerves from the first few moments we met her. I think Penny had potential, but I just didn't like her.
(4) The leveling system was really annoying. What happened was, I tried to complete the other two routes first and save the gym leaders for last. However, when I did this, because I didn't have any gym badges, new pokemon caught wouldn't listen even if my other pokemon were like 20 or more levels above them. So I had to pause the other route, just to do some of the gyms that way I could actually use new pokemon. I know they tried the system to prevent people from just cheating the system by automatically getting high-leveled pokemon from friends, but it just got in the way.
(5) DLC so far... not a fan. I mean, it's something. It's there. It's a thing. But it has nothing so far that makes me like it. The rivals are meh, and the region confuses the hell out of me. I don't get why do Scarlet and Violet region of Paldea based off Spain, but then have a DLC with an island that's so very obviously based off Japan. They could've picked anything around Spain but go back to Japan when 4/9 of the regions are already supposedly based off Japan? Idk, it was kind of a let down to be honest. I haven't completed the dlc, so I still have to do that. The new map is small, but I heard the next dlc is supposed to be huge so here's to hoping that one is better?

More Nightsky Headcanons :) Mostly About Winona, Mikey, and Nikey.
(Got some whump in this one.) (is it whump?) (I think so idk)
Winona likes to call Mikey Sky-Boy in a taunt kind of way, but a “I love you, idiot” kind of way
Mikey is not good at hiding his emotions as I’ve discussed, so sometimes he’ll just look at Winona in like any formal-wear and he just “Uhhhh, uhhhh einwidheiwneieneie hi” and his face is like red as a tomato and Winona’s just like LMAO Arceus I fucking love you
FOREHEAD KISSES all the time, hand kisses, they’re very comfortable with moderate PDA, but they’re like all over eachother when they’re mostly alone. Constantly hugging, holding hands, you know the drill. They’re so fucking adorable
Mikey is pretty decent at flirting, but Winona is always on top of her game. Flirting between the two almost always starts with Mikey saying something pretty good, and then Winona just knocking him to the ground metaphorically with something he could’ve never even guessed, something that leaves him absolutely stunned in the best way possible. He wants to someday find something he can say that will make Winona feel the same way.
Also, the outside of Team Sky’s base is decked the fuck out with wind chimes of all kinds. The area it’s in gets a shit ton of wind, which has also resorted in the base being partly wind powered.
anyways back to the Nightsky
Nikey often finds himself holding his own hand when he’s alone just to have some sense of what he used to have with Winona
Despite him very much being cursed, people outside his close proximity only know it to be a rumour. He prefers to keep it that way and will very much dock the pay of anyone who is too persistent to know.
The skin around the cursed eye is like… really gross. Like Marvel’s Spider Man 2 Symbiote Suit gross. The green dot below the eye has the texture and material of marble. The red iris can burn through almost any fabrics aside from one, which is exactly what his eyepatch is made of. He is EXTREMELY insecure about how the skin around his eye is and if anybody brings it up, he will either A. Threaten to kill them. B. Hurt them physically. Or C. Just leave and then hide away from everything and everyone. Depends on his mood.
There was a point in time where he got deadly sick for like a week, almost died, and nobody knew because everyone assumed he was just self isolating again. He didn’t think of his sickness as much at first, just a small cold, he’ll just wait it out. But as it went on, and he began to feel worse, he began having intense physical symptoms, began to be unable to stand even with a cane. He began to rely on dry snacks in his house as he couldn’t do anything to cook for himself, which only worsened his condition as it was mostly unhealthy food. He was lucky he even had any water in his room in the first place, otherwise he surely would’ve been dead long before anyone found him.
He couldn’t call for help either. His voice was too quiet and hoarse to call out for the bodyguards standing guard right outside his house. He began to experience extreme delirium and even when he was breaking things inside his house in an attempt to call attention to someone, anyone- to help him. The guards just assumed he was having another episode. Constant burning inside his body, jolts of pain coarse go through his body like lightning any time he moved. He couldn’t sleep either, which only worsened his delirium and caused more intense hallucinations. Hallucinations of people he loved, people he lost, whether by death or otherwise. Hallucinations of people he killed.
It wasn’t until he crawled to his front door, scratching and clawing, unable to stand up to reach all the locks he had brandished on the entrance to his house, that someone finally opened the door and saw the horrible state he was in. His hair was a mess, his skin was dirty, he was barely clothed, and his eyepatch was missing. He began to be treated on sight by his personal doctor, who was called for an emergency to his house. But his condition was far too severe for that to suffice. He was taken to the nearest hospital and put into emergency treatment.
Turns out, the reason he had fallen so deathly ill was due to a deadly poison known as “Parasect G” which is known to kill any recipient within the next 24 hours after consumption. The doctors said it was a miracle Nikey had even survived for as long as he did, especially with how he was handling it. The doctors also found that his body had been suffering from long term and deadly amounts of intense stress. They ended up keeping him in the hospital for months to get his body to be even remotely healthy.
Nikey hadn’t realised just how exhausted and in pain he’d been for the past 5 years. And when he found himself alone in his hospital room, all he could do was cry. He’d been so… tired. All this time he was so tired- and now he was feeling it, all at once. He just wanted to curl into a ball and dissipate into pure light. All he could do now… was make the most of his hospital-ridden state, and just take the time to just… rest. Weeks after recovery, Nikey found himself vaguely wishing that it had taken him out. Or that he could atleast be that close to the brink again, because atleast then, he could be taken to the hospital again, and have time to breathe again. He has a purpose, he’s the ruler of the world, and yet… he feels so lost. Like he’s waiting for something that’ll never come, that he doesn’t even know what it is. But he’s holding out for something.
And he will get that something. Whatever it may be.

Rereading through your Wanted AU makes me just want to wrap up Emmet in a soft blanket, give him like 10 shiny joltiks, and get this boy the therapy he (rightfully) deserves.
Just…Ingo finally being home is not going to fix the plethora of anguish this poor man has gone through. Boy went through hell with his bro's disappearance. Media bombardment, spiteful conspiracies, keeping up the subway on his own on top of taking care of nearly two full teams of pokemon by himself. And that's just what was happening on the outside! (Don't get me started on the mental aspect 'cause I could write a thing or two let me tell ya. I won't because this ask is long enough as it is and I don't want to butt-in a bunch of angst headcannons for an AU that's not rightfully mine.)
And even when he's finally home, Ingo has changed. He's not the same twin anymore. He's grown in ways Emmet hasn't and in some ways Emmet was kinda left behind(unintentionally but still) or just left to stay the same while getting frayed at all ends. Which is going to add just another layer of mental torment.
Ingo thought it was a curse when he forgotten everything about his home and his family and friends and left to struggle for memories, but Emmet kinda hates him for that comment because forgetting would have been a blessing for him. (He'll never say that out loud because he knows what Ingo went through was just as bad but my dude deserves to lash out in this AU once!)
Just…may I punch Arceus for this man? I'm gonna punch Arceus for this man for letting Volo play god and just letting it play out before sending a child to fix what it should have in the first place.
You! You get it! I love all of this! 💖🌈✨
Oh I promise you this boy has had some thearapy before, Elesa would have dragged him to his first appointment if he hadn’t gone willingly. That said, he’s now got connections to get himself and the others all the therapy they are going to need after all this mess.
So I will say, after all the miscommunication and trouble Ingo’s amnesia has caused thoughout this story and also what he later sees Ingo struggle with, Emmet would fully agree that it is a curse. And as painful as those three years are for him, he’d never want to forget his brother or his pokemon. I see Emmet as someone who likes order and to loose oneself in that way is very chaotic.
Also! While I totally understand the anger and the urge to blame Arceus, I’m pretty neutral on them. I’m also of the opinion that humanity/pokemon kind Does Not want Arceus stepping in themself. They are too powerful for dealing with something so arguably small in the grand scheme of things without royally fucking something up. Them handling it themselves would be like using a sledge hammer to chisel the finer details of an ice sculpture.
The reason I believe this is due to the number of lesser gods that Arceus created so to create the world and it’s inhabitants for them. They themselves can directly make powerful beings like Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina, or the three lake spirits. But a Bidoof?? No way.
This is why they chose humans to handle a matter that takes place on a human scale. They trust the power of the bonds between humans and their Pokémon to be what saves the day. And also humans learn better by watching another human befriend a Pokémon, as opposed to some great giant godly Pokémon telling the people of Hisui to go make friends with that aggressive Shinx.
In my fic Arceus is the one to send Ingo back to Hisui, as evident by his xtransceiver becoming his arc-transceiver. Arceus didn’t want to be the one to do it, but Dialga is the one that was frenzied in my fic so they have to be the one to do it.
You know that scene at the very start of the game when you see Arceus all golden and shining? That was the true face of god. Something no living being should ever look at if they wanna keep their memories. At least Ingo still remembers his name.
So basically, the god of the Pokémon world is a GOD, and you never want their direct attention. That’s why they give Ingo and Akari tools like they’re devices to help guide them instead of ever speaking to them directly. Gotta keep the divine exposure to an absolute minimum.
(This is generally how I always write gods. They are all just too big to fit in the doll house themselves, so they gotta send in Paladin Barbie to achieve their divine quest for them)

Chapter 12- Part 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright sir, no need to be so dramatic about it, let’s just get this done-
Tumblr media
So yeah, Noibat shall henceforth be known as Decibel! Another sound-theme named!
Something else funny about that name, “Decibel.” You know how, in just about every Pokémon game- from the mainline games to even a lot of the spinoff games- the main characters have canon names? There’s the most famous example of Red in the original Gen I games, but there are other examples- Brendan and May in Gen III, Calem and Serena in Gen VI, Rei and Akari in Legends: Arceus, etc.
Pokémon fan games don’t tend to be different, as far as I’ve seen- like, Pokémon Insurgence’s main characters’ canon names are Wyatt and Nichole, for example. And Reborn is no exception! Indeed, all six avatars have canon first names, last names, and genders- like, the one with the long blonde hair? That’s canonically a lady named Alice Winthrop. And the avatar I chose is, canonically, a nonbinary person named Decibel No-Last-Name!
…Not kidding, by the way, they’re the only protagonist without a canon last name, for…some reason. But either way, I knew there was something special about that avatar! Maybe that was what compelled me to choose them over the others- even if the name and gender identity I use for Xera is, you know, different.
…Still haven’t come up with a proper surname for Xera yet. Maybe I’ll be hit with inspiration as I go through this play session.
Anyways, character trivia aside, we’ve still got some level-grinding to do, so- back to Grand Hall we go!
Several minutes later-
Okay this is absolute bull- the ONLY guy at the Grand Hall battle corner today is some Psychic with, like, a Mawile and a Natu that were above Lv. 20, and he didn’t even give that much money upon beating him. So like- sucks to be us, I guess, serves me right for wanting to utilize the battle corner.
Luckily, we have plenty of Exp. Candies leftover, so we can just use those to get everyone to the levels I was looking for-
Tumblr media
And there we go! I’m certain there will be Trainers to fight in the Gym itself, so that can be some extra grinding, and then we’ll go from there.
Now, with that out of the way…back to the OTS we go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ooooooh, it makes me so unreasonably happy to see the in-game characters calling my character by the proper name now! Even if it’s Fern! Look at that, it’s all coming together, it’s beautiful!
Oh, also- hi Fern. Yeah, I should’ve expected him to appear sooner or later, this is his sister’s Gym, honestly I’d be more shocked if he didn’t show up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh dear- is he salty that he didn’t get to participate in that mission?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because Xera actually showed up…? Where were you when all of that was going down, if you were so eager to participate?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh no- Fern, honey, Xera’s gonna kill you of you keep talking like that, poor guy doesn’t even know what a sore subject that is for her right now-
…On second thought, I feel like if he did know, he’d still be like “she’d still be here if I was there instead.” In fact- no, he’d double down on that if he got a visceral reaction from Xera, he definitely strikes me as the kind of person to be like “oh, struck a nerve, didn’t I? >:)”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, if it’s a battle you want, I’m down- I aced your salty face once already, I can do it again! I’m smarter now than that first time!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gate…? Wait, he’s physically blocking her out? Geez, he’s going all out for this, he really is salty about not being at the Park!
Tumblr media
No no, you explained very clearly why you’re doing this-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know, it’s almost like Fern’s trying to upstage Cain in terms of how dramatic he can be- and that’s not a good thing.

“Someone aside from Game Freak should make Pokémon. Scarlet and Violet are just too buggy”
So I’ve seen criticism like that before, and I think it kind of misses the point of why these games came out in the state that they did. Because when comments like that are made, they always seem to be in bad faith. They in large seem to argue that the developers were lazy or didn’t know how to do their jobs. And while that is certainly possible, I highly doubt that. If only because people passed all of the slow down and occasionally wonky looks, I think Scarlett and Violet are legitimately very fun games. I honestly think this is more of a matter of a lack of polish. If the game could have been in development for another year, then I don’t think people who be complaining nearly as much (they would of course be complaining because Pokémon fans are never happy [which is a much longer conversation and I plan to eat dinner at some point today]). But I think that hits on what I see as the major problem. Time.
Game Freak has said before that Gen IX started development right after Sword and Shield came out in 2019. So a three year development time. Not an impossible development time and Game Freak have always been very good at scope management. But that’s far less manageable if you look at it more holistically. I wasn’t able to find like an average development time for Open World Games, but looking at the two other big open world games the Switch has to offer, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, does give us some kind of idea. BotW had a 6 year development period. Xenoblade had a smaller one in 4 years. Both games had longer to cook the Scarlet and Violet did. Even the other Open World Pokemon game that came out this year, Pokémon Legends Arceus, had 4 years of development time. And I think that’s speaks to the other time problem.
BotW And Xenoblade had the benefit of only having the one game to work on. Development for Gen IX started after Sword and Shield came out in 2019. And what came out after that game? The DLC Packs and Legends Arcus. So not only does this game have a larger scope, but it also had to be developed in a company that was working on other games during the COVID Pandemic. You can tell just how stressful and exhausting all of that is just by the nature that the Gen IV remakes I didn’t mention earlier in games Game Freak were making. That’s because it was developed by another company. The first mainline Pokémon game made by another company because they were already working on two other games at the time. 1 of which would have to be released with less time devoted to it.
Now, I suggested earlier that they should have delayed the game by a year to keep working on it, but I don’t think that would have been possible. And that’s because of the Pokémon Company which manages the multimedia aspect of the series. If Gen IX is delayed then it’s not just a game that’s delayed. It’s a card game. A manga. An anime. A number of toys, and tie in products. If the developers looked at all they still had left to do at the start of 2022 and said ‘we can’t do this by November’ then I doubt they would have been able to convince the people in charge to delay it. And bringing in new people to basically work overtime on these sort of stuff in hazardous in a lot of ways save for moments where it’s slow enough to actually train new people. And given the pandemic and multiple overlapping development cycles going on, I imagine most new people wouldn’t be able to really pitch in.
I think to solution here isn’t to give Pokémon to a new developer or to double the size of the company. It’s to let the developers at game freak have the time to actually make a game. Because the system and conditions they currently have seem untenable. After all, the cracks are already beginning to show.

You might be pleased to know I'm working on a general timeline of events for creams world up to the end of the darkest year (technically it's like half a year plus some but darkest year sounds better then darkest 8 months) so first event is way way back before hisui, the unown who made cream get inspired by that ancient hero you hear about in hisui, this is when they start working on cream, years later the hisui crisis happens, which is basically just legends arceus, and this is where the unown get more inspiration for cream via arezu, lots of other stuff happens but it's pretty much the same as I'm guessing canon, team rocket in Kanto happens first before the others, red taking Giovanni down and a few years later team rocket tries again in johto to find Giovanni and crystal takes them down (I think her name is crystal?? The female protagonist for the games, probably HeartGold SoulSilver) a while after that is when rose summons eternatus and successful controls it, making bank on this new infinite energy source, this is around two years? Before the darkest year, a year later team plasma shows up, this time using rose as evidence to catching pokemon bad as he caught eternatus and is basically using it as a battery, giving them a bit more popularity, even so they get defeated and a year later hell breaks loose in galar, the darkest year starts, interrupting that years champion tournament, Marnie was trying to compete this year as last year she couldn't get far for some reason, either she failed it or got kicked out that year for team yells thing, though considering how sports fans are I don't think she'd get kicked out, so she probably just fell short and decided to try again next year, not giving up, unfortunately this happens so tough luck Marnie, six months after it starts the unown notice nothing is happening to fix it and hurriedly throw cream down there with thumbs up unown to fix it, two months later cream has saved the region and rose is in jail for everything he did, that's the jist, though I'm unsure if I should put team aqua/magma in during the darkest year, making it harder for the international help to help galar as that's become a problem, or have that happen after
YOOO a timeline!! but also RIP to marnie’s career as a trainer in the league, we hardly knew ye 😔😔😔🙏🙏🙏🙏
hmmmm, honestly team magma and aqua could go anywhere and it would make sense -- if it’s either during or after the darkest 8 months (dklfsdkjf that’s such a funny term, I know year sounds cooler but the humor of that gets to me) then archie and maxie can still be like “LOOK SEE?? WE NEED TO MAKE THE WORLD BETTER FOR HUMANS BECAUSE THEY’RE SUFFERING AT THE WHIMS OF A POKEMON/POKEMON BECAUSE HUMANS MESS WITH THE BALANCE OF NATURE”
I think the crystal protagonist is called Kris?? I only went with Crystal in my comic because I named all of the heroes after the games specifically 😂😂😂
(more under the cut)
Tumblr media
OH A TEST FOR CREAM BY THE ORIGINAL HERO AND HOP.... VERY FUN
Tumblr media
KJSDFJKFSD but for real ghetsis is SUCH a great choice for big bad right after giovanni 😳😳😳😳😳
also the idea of cream taking over for the galar hero AND the kalos hero is so good because it’s like -- bud you have all this self-doubt but you’re so good at your job that you’re taking the initiative from them too 😂😂😂
and YEAH gene stole the ruby run from Ruby himself (he didn’t even get a fancy test to prove his strength they just cursed him head-on sdkjfhskjdf)
Tumblr media
SDJFKJDSH listen they’re allowed to have a love for the familiarity of their designated catastrophe, as a treat -- because they deserve many treats 😤😤😤

OH NOOOOOO CREAM THAT’S NOT WHAT THE UNOWN INTENDED

Ingo held up a hand, effectively pausing the game. He and Emmet were playing Pokemon Battle with some of the neighborhood kids! They weren’t invited often mostly because Emmet didn’t really talk much, if at all, with anyone, let alone people he didn’t spend a lot of time with. But he’d caught Ingo’s attention and signed a request to stop.
“What is it, Emmet?”
“Hey! Why did we stop!?” The other children were impatient, their desire to get back into the heat of the game so strong.
“One minute, please.” Ingo requested, interpreting his baby brother’s earnest desires. He looked upset even though they’d all been playing for hours with no issues. Ingo liked playing with the other kids. He’d been wanting to make friends and he was about to lose his chance. “You do not wish to be the Pokemon? You want to be the Trainer?” Emmet’s grin brightened! Surely this was not such a difficult request.
“You can’t be a Trainer.” The oldest of them all stated matter of factly and Ingo’s first reaction was to bristle at the implication that Emmet wouldn’t be a fantastic trainer someday. It was their dream!
“Trainers talk. They have to because they give their Pokemon commands.” Emmet signed furiously. He could “talk,” he could sign! It’s how they all communicated at home and they’d seen others do the same. Ingo relayed his brother’s frustrations. The others were staring at them now and Ingo felt his face go hot. He didn’t like to be stared at.
“Yeah!” They agreed. “He doesn’t talk so he can’t be a trainer!” It made logical sense in his young mind.
“If your Pokemon have to watch you, they won’t be watching their opponent.”
“They’ll get crushed!”
“They won’t know when to dodge!” Emmet tugged on Ingo’s sleeve and it was annoying. Ingo just wanted to play and was having so much fun and now–
“But we can look. We’re not really Pokemon.”
“That’s not the rules, Ingo!”
“Look, if you don’t wanna play by the rules you can’t play at all.” Ingo’s face was hot, his heart pounding as the kids circled closer. He put Emmet behind him but he really did want to play, he wanted to play so badly that tears prickled at the corners of his eyes.
“Maybe you can go home early, Emmet. I will finish this one battle and join you later.” Emphatically, Emmet pulled at his clothes until they stretched and shook his head so fast his face blurred. He signed Ingo’s name and pressed it against his chest, right above where his heart was hurting. Just once. Emmet could go home once! They didn’t have to play together all the time! “Yes, Emmet! Just today.” Again, he shook his head, this time grabbing Ingo. He didn’t like that. Didn’t want that. Didn't like when his clothes got all stretched out and stopped fitting right.
“C’mon Ingo.”
Pushing and grabbing and pawing.
He just wanted to play.
Emmet, Emmet, Emmet. Always Emmet. Watch out for your brother, Ingo, keep him safe, Ingo, help him make friends, Ingo. Emmet, always Emmet! What about Ingo?
“NO! I want to play!” And he shoved him. Put his hands on his little brother so he would stop touching him. “Go home!” The tears pooled in Emmet’s eyes and spilled down his cheeks. “I want to play and I will be home soon! Leave me alone!” Ingo turned and ran, unable to stand looking at his brother while his face was like that. So sad. Upset. Betrayed.
By him.
The game wasn’t really any fun after that. Ingo was sad and just wanted to go home and apologize. He’d make it up to Emmet. He would watch his favorite shows for a whole week and not complain even once! And give up his dessert! He could do that even though he really, really, really liked sweets. Emmet was worth it because he was his best friend.
These thoughts and more ran through his mind as Ingo ran home, excited to see his brother and apologize so everything could go back to normal.
Mom and Dad were waiting for him outside the house.
They looked worried.
“Ingo, oh thank Arceus. Where’s Emmet?”
“Wh’what do you mean? Did he not arrive home?”
“Wasn’t he with you?” Guilt welled up in him like bitter medicine and Ingo looked down at the floor in shame. “What happened?”
“I.” Tears blurred his vision. “I wanted to play, and Emmet. He–”
“Ingo!” The raw disappointment in the way she said his name was worse than her anger and it cut him to the core. “You need to watch out for him!” His father laid a hand on her shoulder as she stifled her panic with both hands.
“Tell us what happened.”
The sun was going down. It was going to be dark soon and his little brother was still missing, out there somewhere all alone!
Ingo couldn’t breathe, couldn’t get enough air, couldn’t see for the tears flooding his eyes.
Calm down, calm down, calm down.
Deep belly breath. Ingo put a shaking hand over his stomach and inhaled, focusing on the movement of his palm. This was his fault. His fault. Emmet was gone because of him. He’d run away because he thought Ingo didn’t love him anymore. Tears streamed down his face. The breathing wasn’t working. There was no one he could ask for help. Mom and Dad and–they were looking and they were mad. Out looking because Ingo was a mean, mean, mean older brother.
He could hear their voices in his ears saying the same things they’ve always said. Reminding him of his responsibilities, that Emmet needed support sometimes and when their parents couldn’t be there it was Ingo’s job to watch out for him.
He’d failed.
He’d failed.
He was a failure and Emmet was going to be lost forever or something worse.
Ingo had to fix this. He knew Emmet best. Knew where he would hide or go or something. More than the grownups would at any rate. With a goal in place Ingo could breathe again. He scrubbed his face dry and stood to his full, diminutive, height before running out of the house as fast as his legs could take him.
Beyond the porchlight it was nearly pitch dark. Ingo could just see the path ahead lit by the waxing moon above and before long he’d made it back to where they’d been playing earlier that day, an eternity ago. In the distance Ingo could hear the multitudinous voices calling out his brother’s name. The forest rang with them, scaring Pokemon of all types and sizes into their homes.
Ingo set off in the opposite direction.
Deeper and deeper, past the new growth of young trees to where the trunks grew so large even the both of them together weren’t able to span them. Resolutely he stared ahead, keeping his eyes away from the pinpricks of false lights between stems and stalks trying to lure him into the clutches of hunting Pokemon.
Had Emmet been snared by their pretty, pale, purple lights? Following them off into the black in hopes of being led home? Only to have his soul devoured? Ingo shivered. Emmet would never fall for a trick like that. He was far too smart and they knew too many spooky stories about different Pokemon preying upon children. They knew to be careful.
And they were small for their age, having yet to hit another growth spurt like their peers.
The adult’s voices were gone. He’d wandered far enough away that signs of human habitation were completely gone.
“Emmet?” Ingo recognized this place, where the tree trunks crossed just so as they fell, becoming nurse logs to baby seedlings. They called it the nursery and measured their own growth to the saplings who were quickly outpacing them. “Emmet? Are you here? Knock if you can hear me!” Tiny feet skittered in the underbrush, displacing crunchy and decaying leaves before silence fell again. “Mm.” Ingo whimpered. The nursery looked so scary at night. “Emmet! I am sorry! Please knock if you are here! Please!” He’d always been loud, like he was making up for his brother not speaking at all, and now his voice cut through the clearing like a train whistle.
He pushed on. Listening intently for dangerous sounds, eyes almost sore from being so wide and straining to see. Be brave. Be brave and fix this.
“Emmet!” The cry of a Pokemon he didn’t recognize sounded above him as if in answer and Ingo looked up just in time to see a dark shadow dropping from the canopy. He yelped, diving to the side and scrambled back to his feet just in time to dodge again.
He ran with the heavy footfalls of something bigger than him hot on his heels. Ingo tore through foliage, the sharp edges of leaves leaving nicks and cuts on his cheeks and arms. He stopped suddenly short, foot hooked in a gnarled root and fell hard enough to knock the wind out of himself, face colliding with the loamy soil. The scent of mud and earth filled his nose, his pulse hammered hard enough that he couldn’t hear whatever was almost upon him. Hot, wet breath ghosted along the nape of his neck as a heavy shadow fell over him like a pall.
He was going to die here.
Because of him, his parents would lose them both.
Ingo braced himself for the inevitable.
Curled into a ball when it cried out in pain above him and tentatively looked up when he felt the ground shake with its retreating steps.
A rock sailed over him, landing innocently a few yards beyond where he lay in the dirt.
Emmet.
Standing in a patch of moonlight with muck all over his clothes and another stone fisted in one hand. He was breathing heavy, eyes frightened and fixed on Ingo.
He gestured towards him with his name sign in a question.
“Emmet!” Ingo latched onto him in a tight hug before pulling back to examine every inch of him for injuries. His eyes were red rimmed from crying and his clothes were torn, but otherwise he looked okay. “Emmet, are you alright? Are you hurt?” Ingo didn’t wait for his reply, merely crushed him again. “I am sorry, Emmet, so, so sorry that I was so mean to you. Please will you come home?” Hesitant, Emmet’s arms came up around him with none of his usual vigor and Ingo only embraced him harder. “Please?” A single nod. It would have to be enough.
Hand firm in hand, Ingo tugged him back through the trees with little resistance and a lot of haste until they were back in familiar territory when suddenly Emmet stopped and wouldn’t budge no matter how hard Ingo pulled.
“Emmet?” Tears were beading along Emmet’s lashes. “I am going to make it up to you, I promise! I will play with you every day! You can have my desserts and I will, I will do your chores! Whatever you want, I promise!” His frown deepened and that was all wrong; his little brother was supposed to smile. “What can I do?” Now Ingo was crying and Emmet was shaking his head and he didn’t understand what he was trying to tell him and that was wrong too, because he always knew. Always! Emmet’s hands began to move, small and shy. Like he didn’t really want to ask for fear of what the answer might be.
Love me?
Something in Ingo’s chest broke open. A physical pain that made his knees wobble.
Did he, did Emmet really think?
“I was just mad. I did not mean to hurt your feelings, I swear. I love you, Emmet. Being sad or mad does not change that, it will never change that!” By now, Ingo was sobbing so hard he couldn’t see or talk, he just had to hope Emmet understood as he clung miserably to his best friend in the world.
And it was there they were found by one of the search parties. Bundled up and carted home and yelled at and cried over.
Scolded.
Grounded.
Exhausted.
Ingo scratched at the itchy bandage over his nose, still sniffling in his top bunk when a head of silver hair popped over the side wearing a pale imitation of a smile, but one nonetheless. Ingo tried to mimic it, knowing by the rolling of Emmet’s eyes that he’d failed again.
“Are you okay?” Ingo shoved over to make room and Emmet made himself comfortable before pointing back at him. “I am fine. I am just glad I found you.” His little brother laughed at that, pointing at himself now. “Yes, yes. You helped.” He sniffed and hugged him tighter, vowing to never make this mistake again.
Emmet folded his index and middle fingers down against his palm before thumping Ingo’s chest and settling down to sleep with a contented hum.
“I love you too, Emmet.”

“megazardx2: Me: “Wait, what about 2021?” Crystal: “♫ We don’t talk about those pairs, no no no, we don’t talk about those pairs ♫”“
Look.  We know what my aesthetic is about.  I don’t like the 2021 summer pairs.  It doesn’t help that I also don’t really care for Grimmsnarl, and do not like Intelleon.  It was like the first event that happened after I joined the game and my general response was “Oh wow, this and...who the fuck are Ingo and Emmet, people like these guys (Legends Arceus wasn’t out yet, I didn’t do battle facilities after Platinum, don’t judge me),” and it took until finding out about Lyra’s rerun and how cute that summer outfit was to go oh hey, something I care about.  And then I got her 5/5 on that rerun.  And she’s still bad.  Seasonal grid expansions when?
“In all seriousness, though, while there being zero reason for me to ever invest in  N & Zoroark is quite disappointing (considering how iconic the pairing is), Hilda & Grapploct finally being appreciated pleases me. I hadn’t even considered using them with that condition in Champion Stadium for free points; I’ll have to try it sometime!”
I haven’t done it often, since it is a single-target skill, but Hilda can absolutely waste a CS stage that way.  Like oh, your stage gimmick is repeated high offense attacks after accuracy buffing?  Enjoy not doing shit the rest of your life, idiot.  She’s still not exactly top meta or anything, but people really undersold her gimmick to begin with, and it’s only gotten more valuable with the CS adjustments and Terrakion.

A Champion Time For The Heart Ch12 Battle Gym Leader Kabu
You had been so, so confused at first when Gloria all of a sudden announced she wanted to use your sobble against Kabu. And to be honest you weren't really too keen on the idea either. Your little cute roll-y poll-y sobble who'd cling to you when scared?? Fighting against the second strongest gym leader in all of Galar??......Yeah. You really, REALLY weren't feeling up for the idea, and had asked her why for goodness sakes!? Her answer was simple.
"The tears ability! Sobble's tears will be my winning strategy against Kabu. I already gotta plan in mind but I can't do it without your pokemon's help since I ain't got a sobble 'o my own! Please Y/n! I'm beggin' ya!"
Well.....You really didn't want to just hand over your sobble even if you trusted Gloria by now, but you also didn't want to make her lose the gym challenge either. After all completing the game was your only shot at making it back home so far. If Gloria couldn't beat Kabu and was snuffed out of the challenge by him then what would you do? So...You agreed. Your sleep didn't come easy to you that night but somehow you managed to fall in a deep dreamless sleep. The next morning literally having to make Gloria push you off the bed in order to wake you up as she shook you. Not on purpose of course, as she had just been trying to get you to wake up but the moment your groggy body fell to the floor with a thud she began apologizing profusely.
"Y/N!!" Your body rattled more than a maraca as you suddenly began pulling out of the darkness blinking rapidly at the blurry vision of everything shaking before you like an earthquake. "WAKE UP ALREADY!! WE'RE GONNA BE LATE!!"
"WHAT- AH!!" Your world tumbled as you fell from the comfy bed and was met with the hardness of the wooden floor by Gloria's feet. "OW!!"....You groaned as the blanket slowly fluttered down to messily cover you.
Gloria's hands shot to her mouth, making a hissing sound as she watched you experienced pain. "Y/N!! Oh my Arceus! I'm so so sorry!," she quickly apologized.
"...Good morning to you too, Gloria," you mumbled before kicking the sheet off you and pushing yourself off the floor, your hair a mess, and yawning. "What time is it?"
"Um..Seven in the morning I think?" You turned to her tiredly and noticed she was already wearing her white challenger uniform and all ready to go.
"Did you get the others up?," you asked stifling a yawn as you stood.
"Um..." She chuckled nervously as you stretched your back and rose a brow at her as she held up a hand. "Uh..About that...They're gone." Her face frowned more as you paused...and blinked at her.
"...What do you mean 'They're gone'?"
"They weren't there when I knocked on the door, so I guess they left early! I'm sorry I didn't know!"
"Oh for the love of-..." You sighed and waved her off. "Nevermind." Quickly reaching over, you bent down and pulled the blanket off the floor, throwing it back neatly over the bed before going for your bag. "Are you all ready?" She nodded. "Good. We'll find them later. For right now let's just worry about getting to the stadium and seeing what's up! Ok?"
She had quickly agreed to that and you wasted no time throwing yourself together, tossing your bag over your shoulders, and grabbing your sobble's pokeball. From what she told you last night, you thought it'd be best to put the little critter into it's pokeball and give it to her before her battle to avoid any complications should your sobble start acting up. Which lead to now. The two of you were already in the elevator on your way down to the lobby. Anxious tension in the air so thick you could cut it with a knife as you lightly gripped the pokeball in your hand slightly harder. After a moment or two of silence Gloria went digging through her bag and pulled out something that looked pretty much like the goggles you'd see a diver wear before entering the water.
"Did you eat anything?," you asked glancing at her as she slipped the straps over her head making you give a confused look. "...And what are those for?
She silently shook her head slightly as her head was bent down and you watched in silence as she silently tightened the black straps tightly around her head. When Gloria finally managed to look up at you, the goggles were tightly clamped around her eyes and she shook her head no. "No. I was too busy tryin' too get ready. 'sides I feel pretty queasy. I don' know if food's a good idea right now." She blinked obviously noticing the look you were giving her goggles. "What are you- Oh these?" You nodded and she smiled. "Well last time he cried ya'll didn't stand a chance. But I figured if I covered my eyes real good I won't get affected by whatever's in those sobble's tears that makes ya cry rivers!"
You stared....."That's bloody genius!! Why didn't I think of that!?"
She chuckled. "To be honest it really ain't my idea anyways. I remember Hop telling me the idea back when I got my toxel. I remembered it when I thought of usin' your sobble and stopped by that clothes shoppe in town. They were sellin' swim wear n' stuff since it's summer and picked up these lil babies. Like I said. He's a genius."
Ah! That must've been why it took her a while to get back to the hotel. She really was preparing for her gym battle. As the elevator went you had reluctantly handed over your sobble's pokeball to her and she gently took it. Giving it a look before deeply inhaling and slowly exhaling, most likely psyching herself up before relaxing her posture and slowly slipping the pokeball into her pocket. You watched as she did so with worry and a little bit of guilt eating away at your stomach. You weren't sure if this was really the right thing to do after all, especially without telling your pokemon. This was surely going to be quite the shock for it, and you weren't too sure what the outcome could be. A ding interrupted any of your thoughts as the both of you looked back towards the doors as they opened, and you were lightly surprised to see the girl there. The same girl you had been worriedly thinking over last night. Marnie!
She was standing there in the lobby kneeled down handing her hamster like pokemon some kind of fruit to eat, which it took eagerly, but upon seeing you two blinked and slowly stood to her feet. "Mornin' Gloria. ..Oh. And you too Miss."
"Uh hi!," Gloria greeted a little unsure since she must've looked a bit strange in the swimming goggles. "Are you headin' off to battle Kabu too?"
She shook her head no. "No. We were 'bout to shove off on the next leg of our journey now. That friend of yours already went off to challenge the next gym, tho."
"He did?," you asked and Marnie politely nodded towards you. "...How early did those two wake up?"
"I couldn't say for sure, but by how happy they were it seemed like they had a plan."
"Oh! Well we have a pretty great strategy too!" Gloria smiled proudly. You were glad at least her nerves were seeming to be getting better.
Marnie only nodded. You looked at her for a moment and it didn't seem as if she had any nefarious schemes or malicious intent behind that polite exterior of hers. But still last night's questions swirled in the back of your mind as you narrowed your eyes in thought, raising your brows as she calmly reached into her leather jacket pocket and pulled out a small reddish card before handing it out to Gloria.
The brunette blinked at it for a moment before raising a brow in question. "What's this?"
"Kabu's League Card," she replied calmly, "It's supposed to help against him, but I ended up with a few copies, so I'll give you one." A look of surprise passed on both your faces as you two exchanged looks before looking back to Marnie. "Don't look so chuffed. It's no big deal. 'N I already got two others already."
Gloria stared for a second longer before smiling and taking the card from her. "Wow. Thanks!"
Marnie nodded in reply. "Oh. Here." She reached back into her pocket and pulled out a second card before holding it out towards her. "Take this too. A little somethin' for our battle yesterday. As a thanks for helpin' me out."
"What's this?"
"My own league card. Your friend gave me one of his so I figured you could have one too."
"Whoa! Thanks!" Gloria gladly accepted the other card with a smile. "That's real nice 'o ya!"
Marnie gave the smallest of smiles. "I bet you'll have no trouble beatin' that ''man of fire'' Kabu chap, right? Why don'cha get over to Motostoke stadium and get that gym badge already?"
...Gloria jumped. "OH!! RIGHT!! We need to get to the stadium!" She stuffed the cards into her pocket as fast as she could as Marnie peered up towards you and you blinked at her. ...You opened your mouth to ask her about the Team Yell involvement that's been going on. Not expecting really any answers outta her, but before you could say anything something tightly gripped around your arm and you yelped as Gloria yanked your forward in a run. Almost making you hit the floor for the second time that morning. "THANKS MARNIE!! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR NEXT STEP!!"
Marnie waved a hand back at your retreating forms. "Good luck out there!"
Gloria yanked you along, nearly tripping down the steps and over your own two feet as she raced ahead putting one arm out to shove the door open in her mad dash to the stadium ahead. Thank goodness the Budew Drop Inn was literally right next to the stadium. You didn't think you could last too long with Gloria's way of yanking you forward in a frenzy without falling over for too long. Cheers and loud noises were clear as day as soon as the two of you stepped out the doors and started running over towards the stadium. How early did these people wake up around here!? Thank goodness at least you two didn't have to worry about bumping or tripping over other people. It was a short distance, but with the adrenaline pumping and worry in your systems it felt as if you two ran a marathon by the time Gloria moved the two of you towards the double doors she had gone through previously during the Entrance Ceremony. Her sudden stomp making you stumble and catch your self clumsily on your knees and free hand as she still gripped your arm tightly, thankfully not smacking into the ground, as she skidded to a stop. Low and behold guess who was already waiting for you two? Victor gave the two of you a raised brow before sighing and reaching up to rub at his temple, as Hop chuckled and crossed his arms at the sight of you two girls.
"Slow moving aren't you, Glory?", Hop teased.
"O-Oh...S-S-Shove...o-off!," she forced out back at him between deep breaths. Letting lose your other arm. You hissed in sourness as you pulled it towards you, reaching up to rub where Gloria had gripped it.
"Where had you two been?," Victor asked frowning, "We spent half an hour knocking on your door before we left."
"I've already gone and earned my fire badge," Hop said in agreement, "The man of fire Kau is just what you'd expect. Nearly got burnt in my battle with him."
"LITERALLY," Victor added, "I'm surprised his pokemon weren't turned to ash when he barely made the second round. .....Was a very lucky close call that made him win."
"Even with my strongest team it was definitely tough- and - go .....but I still won in the end!"
"Just barely. He lost the first round, won the second, and third ended with a tie. Since no one won or lost the third round it counted as a win towards Hop as well and he managed to walk away with a two out of three win victory."
"SERIOUSLY!? How early did ya'll get up!?"
"Nevermind all of that!" Hop interrupted everyone waving a hand. "You need to get a shift on, Gloria. I bet you could beat the man of fire toooo....." He blinked. Staring right at her face seeming to FINALLY notice the swimming goggles on her face. "...Hey. Whatcha wearing those swimming things for? Afraid you'll get fire blasted at ya?"
She blinked as Victor was nice enough to walk over and help pull you up to your feet, pointing to her face. "Y'mean these? It's sobble protection."
he gave her a confused look. "Sobble protection? But Kabu doesn't have a sobble on his team."
"Not for Kabu's pokemon." She gestured to you as you thanked Victor. "I'm borrowing hers. I remembered what you said about using goggles to maybe help block the effects or their tears, so I'm tryin' it out."
Hop gained a look of surprise. Not sure if it was from what Gloria said or the fact she was using Sobble. "You...remembered t-that." He asked shyly. Yep. Def from what Gloria said.
She nodded. "Yeah. Why wouldn't I? By the way, how was the challenge?"
"Huh?" He blinked before turning an embarrased pink. "Oh uh r-right. *ahem* It went well. I mean you have to catch t-three pokemon but it's no big de-"
"WHAT!?" He blinked at her shout and watched silently as she quickly patted her pockets. "We have to catch pokemon!? B-But I didn't bring any empty pokeballs!!"
"Gloria, calm down-"
"Calm down!! CALM DOWN!?," she snapped towards her twin shouting with a look of panic, "I don't have any pokeballs on me except the ones that already have pokemon in them! How am I supposed to battle the gym LEADER if I can't make it past the gym CHALLENGE, Vic!?"
"You can borrow some of mine!," he shouted back at her.
Gloria shut up and stared at him blankly for a moment. "......Come again?"
Her brother groaned giving an eye roll before slipping the large (suitcase-) pack off himself. Silently you all watched as he brought it up and opened it before shoving his hand quickly inside for a second before pulling out a trio of pokeballs. "I was stocking up when it was my turn ta face 'em, but ye can borrow a few." Shoving them all at Gloria who barely managed to catch them all fumbling as she did. "Here!" He insisted already starting to close his bag. "Don't worry 'bout paying me back. You can keep 'em. But for crying out loud, Glory!! Come more prepared!"
Her brown eyes glanced between the poke balls and her brother. Looking to be at a loss for words. "I-....Uh....T-Thanks??"
"Don't thank me yet! You still have to get in there and beat him. So get to it, Glor! I know you can pass this challenge like you do every other- AH!!"
"THANK YOOOUUU!!! You're the best brother EVER!!"
Victor groaned as she hugged him before squirming his way free like a worm. "Yeah, yeah. Nevermind that now, you have a battle to win! Remember?"
"YEAH RIGHT!!......Um."
"What now?"
"You might want to stay out here instead of going inside, I uhhhh...Don't know how this might turn out."
"That might be a good idea," you commented. "Especially if those tears are gonna get BIG from Dynamaxing....But would you be able to do it without us there?"
"Yeah!...Wait." She glanced back to Hop with a slightly worried expression, "You'll still watch me from the live footage, r-right?"
Hop nodded without hesitation. "Of course we will!,'' he smiled whipping out his phone, "You don't even have to ask us. As your best rival and friend it's my sworn duty to support you in your journey even if it's from behind the scenes! We'll be here cheering you on all the way!"
"But first she actually has to go inside and do the challenge before Kabu decided you're not coming at all."
"R-Right! Yeah." With a turn of her head Gloria faced the doors before her before with another inhale and exhale, her face steeled and she started forward. "Wish me luck!"
"You don't need it!" "Go get 'em, Glory!" "Good luck!" The three of you shouted at her as the doors opened and she slowly walked her way in.
The worry feeling in your gut increased as you realized you wouldn't be watching your sobble battling within the stadium, but it might be better you all weren't affected by the giant tears if Gloria really was going to be dynamaxing the sobble. Hop pointed over towards a bench nearby where the three of you could sit and watch and you agreed, following the boys over as the cheers from the stadium was ever present. Guess the crowd must've gotten wind of another challenger on their way in to challenge Kabu. Hop had turned his rotom phone on and went to what he said was the Gym League's official website where you could find everything from past Gym leader's biographies, to their pokemon, to even content the Gym Leaders themselves posted. You could even find live footage if they currently battled anyone to watch if you couldn't be at the stadium. How convenient! It didn't take Hop too long to pull up a video turning his phone sideways to full screen as you and Victor huddle around to watch. What was shown on screen was the inside of the stadium, the many people in the stands, and an empty field. Gloria must've still been just starting the challenge presented to her. To which Victor commented it might take a bit to catch all three pokemon. So all the three of you could do was wait it out for the moment, which you did. You sat there for the longest time just staring at the phone screen mind wondering off into space as the boys chatted among themselves next to you glancing at the phone every so often. Would this really work out ok? You were starting to feel like maybe you shouldn't have let Gloria borrow sobble but you also really wanted to get home so if this really was the way she could win you were doing the right thing.....Right?
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!" You jumped at the loud man's voice that shouted out in what sounded like two different directions. And it kinda was, the announcer's voice was loud enough to be heard outside the stadium and came from the live feed being recorded live from Hop's phone as well. "The battle between Gym Challenger Gloria and Gym Leader Kabu shall now commence!!" The three of you quickly snapped to attention at the phone Hop held as the camera recording the live feed zoomed it just close enough where you could watch the battle at it's fullest, but also too far away to see their faces sadly. You hoped Gloria wasn't feeling too anxious. The crowd roared again in cheers as at last both the figures of Gloria and Kabu jogged their way towards the very center of the big field before stopping. Here we go. "Battlers please take your place on opposite field and face one another!!" It looked like they exchanged a few words before turning and walking a decent amount away from one another. " SET!" They faced one another. "Pokemon at the ready!! BATTLE BEGIN!!"
In a flash of bright light, both parties sent forth their pokemon as the crowd cheered. Kabu a fox looking pokemon, Nine tales if you remembered right. And Gloria her Roselia.
"Wha- Why's she using a grass type?," Hop asked confused, "Grass-type pokemon are usually weak against fire-types. Shouldn't she know the type disadvantage? "
You were confused at first too. Why would she be using a ro-...Your eyes widened remembering something from your past encounters. "....Stun spore."
"What?," he asked turning to you.
And you them as you spoke. "I bet you more than anything she's going to use that stun spore move on that thing."
...Hop's eyes widened. "Of course! Stun spore leaves a paralysis effect on it's opponent! She could use that to get an edge up on Ninetales if she's able to land the hit!..If she can that is. Ninetales has the time advantage and more speed than any other nine tales I've seen. I couldn't even get passed it."
You said nothing after that and turned back to the screen as a flame thrower type move nearly hit the roselia by a couple inches. OH Crap- The battle must've started while you weren't paying attention! So far Gloria seemed to be doing ok. With a point from her form she must've been giving an order, because that roselia in all it's agility used tackle and ran straight towards the ninetales. ..!? WHAT WAS SHE DOING!? She was gonna get that poor rose pokemon hurt! A tense and cold feeling grabbed a hold of your body as the fox pokemon opened it's large mouth, and filled with the burning fire as it shot towards the roselia. A collective aw reaction coursed through the crowd and you three as the roselia....slid. That's right. SLID. The grass pokemon suddenly dropping back as it it slipped and fell to it's knees (Or you guess what counted as knees on it) and as if in a rock star pose, leaned all the way back as the fire passed above it literally inches from it's face. No doubt the speed from the tackle added in it's aid of sliding across the grassy field. As if time slowed down, the fire soon left the ninetales's mouth, and it turned it's head down towards the roselia sliding towards it at break-neck speeds. Lifting the roses on it's arms surrounded by burst of electricity, you could've sworn the fox thing gave a look of panic, before there was a flash of light as bright as a camera's flash as the roselia continued it's journey under the ninetales as it was enveloped face first by electricity. Now if you thought the corvinkight's loud cries when you crashed into it's nest was terrifying, it was nothing compared to the high pitched dog like wails that came from this pokemon really made your stomach flip. Through the static shock surrounding it, the ninetales gritted it's fangs and looking as if pain, forced itself to snap towards the roselia who stopped just behind it. And in one swift motion, in a white blur the pokemon turned and swiped at it. HARD. With a cry from the pokemon it went flying across the field, tumbling head over heels, round and round in summer salts until finally with a thud the poor thing landed with half it's body crossing one of the perimeter lines.
"MATCH!!" The announcer's voice called back through and it honestly made you jumped by how it surprised you, too lost in the battle to notice. "THE GYM CHALLENGER'S POKEMON IS OUT OF BOUNDS!! GYM LEADER WINS FIRST ROUND BATTLE!!"
The crowd roared out again at Kabu's obviously win, and you weren't too surprised since he is supposed to be the second strongest gym leader. So it shouldn't be surprised that the ninetales was still able to move like that after Gloria's stun spore surprise. Tho you were a bit sad at her loss.
"Aw man! She totally got canned out there!," Hop sighed lowering the phone a little disappointed as both battlers returned their pokemon
Victor hummed. "Well, yes. Glory lost first round but it's not a total loss. Stun spore's affects increases the more the recipient of it moves, so it'd be dumb if Kabu forced his ninetales to battle again for the second round. It'd just be giving her a better chance at winning. So she still managed to widtle down them to an equal two pokemon each."
....Hop nodded. "Yeah! You're right. But it doesn't mean the other two won't be just as powerful."
"SECOND MATCH START!!" The voice returned. "POKEMON AT THE READY!! SECOND ROUND BATTLE BEGIN!!"
Two more bright lights appeared and the BIGGEST arcanine you had ever seen appeared before you! That thing was huge! Much better than the ones in game. And Gloria had sent out her raboot. A fire type against a fire type. They should be equaled out but you had a feeling the arcanine was the more powerful in terms of strength and skill. Gloria better have had a trick up her sleeve for this one. Kabu was the first one to make a move. As it quickly leaned his head forward just an inch and the raboot jumped a good yard back away in fear.
"That's arcanine's intimidate. Hope that raboot's not too scared."
The arcanine took a step forward the rabbot took another step back. Kabu pointed and in an instant it charged. Flames spewing from it's mouth the moment it opened it's maw and it fell. Well at least you thought it did by how fast it dropped, only to flip using it's back legs to kick off and a envelope itself in fire to perform Flame Wheel- Raboot. Charged! It's feet gaining fire with it's speed when you realized what was going to happen. Was Gloria attempting to use Flame Charge as a way to counter the Flame Wheel like back when she used her Scorbunny's move to deflect Hop's Wooloo's tackle? That may have worked out back then but Arcanine was much bigger and stronger than an ordinary wooloo! There's no way as strong as raboot was they could deflect that flame wheel....Except..Well...That wasn't what they did at all. As soon as that raboot jumped and made contact with that fire hoop of death, it was like a catapult suddenly went off under it's feet. Using the momentum of the moment that crafty little bunny used it's own fire as a shield for it's feet from the flames of it's enemy to leap itself into the air. The three of you watched in awe as the raboot launched itself a decent twenty or so feet in the air above the arcanine who had stopped and then looked up in confusion as it most likely didn't expect that. That's when it struck. With a surprising speed for being in mid air, the raboot shot back back down straight towards the arcanine. The dog pokemon in retaliation growled and opened it's maw WIDE to catch it within it's fangs at the same time as the raboot flipped, and landed a perfect double kick to the upper part of the pokemon's face. The. Arcanine. WAILED OUT!! The jerk it's head gave shoving the rabbit pokemon to the ground with a loud squeak as it hit the dirt but as quick as ever sprung itself back onto it's feet to face it's enemy. The much taller fire type shaking it's head and pawing at it's eyes.
"A Quick Attack and Double Kick combo!! How'd they do that so fast!?"
None of you had time to answer that before Gloria was already pointing at the arcanine and the raboot swiftly followed. The arcanine snarled it the approuching raboot's direction eyes closed and again went to use Bite, but with a quick side leap to the left, it easily delivered another double kick to the side of it's head. Making it recoil. And thus it had begun. Side! Back! Gut! Front Leg! Back Leg! Under Chin! Front Leg again! The raboot as quickly as a real rabbit in your world, was light on it's feet. Using quick attack and double kick over and over again to kick the blinded and confused arcanine in random places jumping over, under, around and sometimes latching onto it's fur to propel itself in a different direction from the jaws or swiping paws as it growled and blindly went after him. One time literally trying to slam it's whole right side onto the smaller pokemon before the rabbot quickly thrust itself forward under and away from the falling body before giving it a tackle to it's exposed middle in retaliation for the body slam. Using it's speed and smaller body to it's full advantage. The blinded pokemon's only saving grace was to suddenly use the order of flame wheel to break away from the small menace. Rolling fast away in a hoop of flames. You nearly choked on your own breath as you all watched in disbelief as the tinier much smaller raboot CHASED. Yes. CHASED after the spinning wheel of death faster than you had seen it run. The flames gathering on it's feet again. Another flame charge?? The arcanine stopped just a few yards away from him, flames still gathered within it's mouth as it turned, presumably to launch a strong flame attack at the smaller beast. And raboot with all it's speed and flaming feet. KICKED!! As fast as a jet streaking through the sky, a flaming rock was launched right at the pokemon's face. And connected. With a yelped and smoke going off from getting straightly hit by it, the arcanine went down.
"ARCANINE HAS BEEN RENDERED UNCONCIOUS!! GYM CHALLENGER WINS THE SECOND ROUND!!!"
THE. CROWD. CHEERED!! Ember....That raboot used ember to knock out that arcanine!! You didn't know whether to be impressed or surprised at what just happened but both the boys next to you exchanged a few cheers of their own and high fived. And you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. Holy cannoli that was tense!! ....But then you froze. Wait...If both first and second rounds were over..that meant only the third was left. And the third round was the dynamax specialty. And Gloria was planning on using... all the worry came rushing back in an instant.
"Oh no-"
"FINAL MATCH DETERMINES WHO WINS AND LOSES!! YOU FOLKS KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!" Oh please don't say- "DYNAMAX ROUND SET!! GET YOUR POKEMON AT THE READY!!" You could all suddenly hear the crowd begin chanting the word 'Dynamax'. Your eyes widened as, as tiny as Gloria's figure was on the camera, you could CLEARLY make out her reaching into her pocket and pull out a pokeball, her other hand coming up to her goggles. In than instant your face paled and your blood ran cold. A heavy feeling of cold settling in as you saw that unmistakable red energy gathering around her wrist band as she held your ball. Your poor baby's ball. "FINAL BATTLE BEGIN!!"
The first to make a move was Kabu as the pokeball in his hands swelled up to the size of a watermelon and with a fiery look in his eyes, swiftly turned on his heel and with one arm chucked the giant thing into the air. It sored through the sky until popped open and THE BIGGEST centipede you had ever seen came forward. The ground where you three were sitting shook from the force of the giant pokemon in the stadium in front of you landed on the ground. Sending a wave of wind and rubble from the field flying in it's wake as dark reddish-orange storm clouds darkened itself overhead, making it look even MORE horrifying than it was....OH. SWEET. MOTHER. OF MILTANK!! If that thing was scary to you than it'd be an utterly drop dead terror for your poor sobble! The pokeball in Gloria's hold swelled up to the same size as a watermelon. Using both arms to lift the thing over her head, and tossed it into the air. It soared through the air and all three of you watched like you were watching a trainwreck happening. Too scared for the results but unable to look away feeling as it popped open. And your sobble made it's entrance. The blue pokemon now several times bigger than it's usual cat like height. It landed in the same fashion as Kabu's centipede thing did. And instantly a look if confusion graced it's face as with a monstrous chirp it started quickly looking around at itself. Although that confusion quickly dashed away as soon as it's eyes laid upon the terror in front of it. It froze. Staring unblinking with that blank stare of his as it laid eyes on the centipede pokemon.
"Oh no-
Now you weren't entirely sure what move it was called that it used, but all of a sudden this giant bug thing decided to play....But this thing moved so fast in air as Kabu leaned back and pointed up at it you nearly had a heart attack then and there. It took the form of a sideways zig zag pose and gathered a great deal of fire within it's coils. The GIANT ball of flames launched in a moment's notice as it sailed out. And hit your sobble directly with an explosion. You cried out, hands coming to clasped at your mouth at the noise the water pokemon made as it connected and tumbled over. The three of you had to grab a hold on the bench as it wobbled, Hop nearly dropping his phone in process as he did. Thank goodness he didn't because you still had your panicked eyes stuck to the screen even as it shook. .......Your now giant sobble with storm clouds gathered over it's head was just laying there for a moment....before it pushed itself onto it's bottom silently, dirt from the field falling off itself as it did. He stared blankly back at the centipede-...thing for a moment....before it's giant mouth quivered. And in a flash the giant sobble threw it's back and began to cry. The loudest cries you ever heard rung out through the sobble's mouth, it sounded like someone took the world's largest bagpipes and cranked it's volume to eleven. But that's not what concerned you. Thousands of shining droplets starting floating down everywhere. And in an instant the centipede thing violently shook it's head. A loud cry of protest coming out of it.
"Holy Arceus..."
Was all any of you could manage to say at the situation as you continued to watch your sobble cry as the centipede thing continued to shake it's head and yell out. Kabu's small form on the screen even shown him using whatever towel he kept around his shoulder to suddenly smush his face against. The centipede thing suddenly dove. A giant crater forming in the field as it attempted to bury it head away from whatever was irritating it. After a moment your sobble stopped. Giving it a look as it twitched and kept it's face in the giant crater it made for itself like an ostrich, eyes watering a bit as it did. It gave a look around again but seemed to be scanning more of the stadium than the field. Most likely looking for a way out. That didn't surprise you in the slightest. What DID surprise you next was what it did next. Your. Sobble. Scowled. In the direction of the centipede thing who still rubbed it's head in the dirt, most likely trying to settle down the burning sensation of the tears it experienced before. You blinked as it gave off a monstrous sound of it's own towards the other pokemon. Did....Did your sobble..The one wh dove under your arm or hide behind your head just...growl at the other pokemon?? By the end of the war cry it gave as a shock, it pushed itself forward. Landing it's hands right onto the ground as a wave of energy expelled from it. The force making crackes in the earth around the thing's buried head before blue light seeped through the depths of the earth and a geyser of blue light shook the stadium and the three of you.
"T-T-THAT WAS A SOBBLE'S MAX STRIKE MOVE!!," Hop managed to force out between holding onto the bench as everything shook.
"IT WAS A WHAT!?," You shouted back at him trying to make out the shaking screen in his hands between holding onto the bench yourself.
The centipede things wretched it's head up from the dirt and with a loud cry began shaking it frantically like a panicked snake. That was before it was attacked again of course by your sobble. A torrent of water rushed out from it's mouth the moment it was opened and hit the thrashing fire type straight in the face as it cried out. The fire becoming so bright it turned white...except it wasn't coming from the giant pokemon. The bright light was coming from the other side of the field as your sobble cried out again- The screen shut off with a beep. A flash of 'No Signal' coming over the sudden white screen. The three of you stared at Hop's phone. No one moving. No one saying anything. As the three of you just....stared at the lost signal-
"NO!!" Hop yelped and wretched his arm back in surprise as you snatched the phone from his hands. Frantically bringing it up to your panicked face as your body drawled in quicker breaths. You shook the phone within your hands and furiously tapped the screen in rapid moment before the rotom within it wretched itself from your grip with a scowl to escape your grip. "NO NO NO!!" You snapped back to Hop. "WHAT HAPPEND?!"
"We must've lost the live feed signal," Hop replied back reaching over and grabbing the rotom from mid air and bringing it back to him.
"Can you get it back?!"
"I can try, but I don't know if-"
"GYM MATCH IS OVER!!" All three of you froze to stare in the direction of the voice coming loud and clear from the stadium. ....You slowly stood up. "CENTISKORCH IS UNABLE TO BATTLE!! GYM CHALLENGER GLORIA WINS THE MATCH!!" The crowd cheered...And you leaned forward-
"OOF!!" You were yanked back by your backpack by Hop before you could fall to the ground below and you landed with a thud back onto the bench. "....Thanks.''
Hop nodded before he put the phone quickly away and stood along with Victor. "C'mon. I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna see what happened."
You stood up quickly with a scowl. "You bet your pokeballs I'm going to see what happened! Gloria and my sobble is in there!"
There was no questions or doubts about it as the three of you unanimously started towards the inside of the stadium doors in worry for the young trainer and your pokemon. ...Except as soon as the doors opened the trio of you were stopped by some man wearing a gym suit and sunglasses. Surprise, surprise. You and Victor weren't allowed in as unregistered gym challengers. ....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? You wanted to yell at this guy and push past him if you bloody had to to see them! And Hop looked as if he was about ready to argue in your favor as well squaring up. The only one who seemed to be thinking clearly in the situation was Victor who had to pull the two of you back to wait outside for her. You wanted to get it!! Who cares if they threw you out kicking and screaming!? You were seeing your pokemon!! Oh the irony when Victor yelled at you two it would only put Gloria's and Hop's places in the challenge in danger if either one of you did anything dumb to threaten their places. Oh....Well when he put it like that, then it did make the two of you seem foolish. But that didn't you liked it standing right outside those giant double doors leading to the inside of the gym pacing, and tapping your foot, staring at the doors in worry, mumbling to yourselves. Poor Victor standing deadpanned in the wake of your two's worried mess with a sigh. You all nearly jumped as the door opened and the slightly dirt covered girl of the hour finally came out-
"GLORIA!!" The brunette yelped as she was all of a sudden encased in a tight hug by her worried friend. "OH GOSH!! WE WERE SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU!! I figured if anyone could do it you and raboot would be the ones....But STILL!! That match had me right at the edge of my seat! I thought for sure you would've been crushed-"
"Hop! Geez! I'm perfectly ok! See?" She pried herself away from the clinging boy to make some space between them both. "I'm as fine as a deep fried curry! And I walked away with more than just my safety!" She beamed brightly as she spoke. "I got my bloody fire badge!"
His eyes widened. "WHAT!? No way! That's incredible!"
As the four of you were a little busy focusing on Gloria and worrying, none of you noticed the blue thing walking past her legs and up to you.
"WAIT WAIT!!" Hop nearly stumbled as you dove and Gloria blinked in surprise as you grabbed her shoulders in worry. There wasn't any signs of a sobble around her so it must've meant she put him back in his pokeball!!...Or at least you hoped she did. "Where is he!?" You asked in a worried tone. "Where's my sobble, Gloria?!"
......She blinked. "Oh...Ummm. Yeah about that." She gave an almost cringe as she said the next few words. "He's uh....Not exactly a sobble anymore." The three of you stared at her....A pit dropping in your stomach strong enough to make you feel like hurling.
"WHAT!?"
"No no no! He's fine I swear!," she insisted holding her hands up to your scared face. "It's just that-"
"ACK!?" Gloria blinked as you were suddenly whipped back by something heavy latching onto your backpack. It felt like someone had dropped the weight of a toddler on your shoulders all of a sudden. The three looked on in confusion as you stumbled back in panic waving your arms wildly for balance before throwing yourself forward to right yourself and grabbed your knees in a leaned over position. "What in the actual-" You paused. Something shifted on your back and grabbed your shoudler. In an instant you whipped over your shoulder to look at the thing pulling itself up onto you. And what you were met with was a face to face encounter with a frowning blue head who gave a small thrum sound at you. ............You blinked. "What the heck!?"
"Uh...That's what I was trying to tell you about," Gloria said pointing to it.
Without breaking eye contact with the thing that was half sitting on your pack half slumped over against your shoulder, you slowly stood up and pointed at it. "What the world is this thing?" To which it gave a undignified chirp and grabbed your nose. "Hey!"
"Oh hey! It's a drizzilie!"
...You looked at Hop for answers brow raised. "It's a what?"
"A drizzilie," he repeated pointing at the thing slumped over your shoulder. "They're considered highly intelligent pokemon but also really lazy ones." Another pouty chirp was thrown in Hop's direction. " I think I read somewhere that they're good at making traps."
"This still doesn't tell me where my sobble is!"
"Y/n, drizzilie is the evolved form of a sobble!," Gloria pointed again, "Sobble evolved near the end of the match! He's literally right there on your shoulder!"
You paused...whipping back to the drizzile who only moved his eyes from where it's head laid upon your shoulder. ....THIS was your adorable tiny little sweet innocent baby sobble!? It reminded you of a moody preteen. You two continued to stare at each other a bit regarding each other silently...before you asked a question. "You want food?" It immediately lifted it's head up and gave a deeper chirp noise in approval and you laughed. " Ok...It's definitely him alright. But how come he evolved?"
"Because...it's what pokemon do?? They're always evolving and growing as they go, there's no stopping it."
"....Fair enough."
"Hey." Gloria blinked as her brother gently grabbed her shoulder with a concerned look. "Are you sure you're ok?"
"Of course I am. It'll take more than a dynamax battle to stop me."
Hop laughed. "With all the badges we've earned ourselves, I reckon we should be alright even against the fierce pokemon you find deep in the Wild Area. Let's go find out for ourselves-"
"NO!!," both you and Victor screamed at once making Hop blink...And Gloria snorted.
Surprisingly you did not want to stay there any longer in fear of what else might happen to you all, so after a bit of convincing on Victor's side to Hop who was eager to go straight to the Wild Area for the rest of the day to battle and catch wild pokemon, you five just went back to your hotel. You felt entire exhausted, and not because of the extra added weight to your load now thanks to your sobble's new and maybe not so improved form. But mentally from the exhausting experience you had been put through. It...was a day you'd have to get used to but in the end Gloria won her third badge and your sobble...uh..Drizzlie was perfectly fine even if he changed a bit. So at the end of the day it was in fact a win win situation for everyone. You had felt relief when you got back to your hotel room and slid off your bag, plopping yourself on the bed with a sigh. Your new drizzile standing there for a moment before flopping itself onto you with a small 'Oof' escaping you....Yeah. You guessed you'd have to train him out of just jumping on you anymore now that he was the size of a six year old child.
"Hey, Y/n? Are you going to sleep right now?", Gloria asked curiously.
"....I dunno. Maybe,'' you answered muffled by the pillow. "Why?"
"We're getting lunch before watchin' Victor's battle. Want me to grab you a curry?"
"......Yeah. As long as it doesn't have any eggs or tails on it. Grab me one-" Your drizzilie patted your shoulder and you sighed. "Make that two. Something tells me he's going to be more hungry from now on." Gloria laughed again and you sighed.
The rest of the day went by rather quickly in your eyes. You all ate lunch and watched Victor have his own match against the fiery man. Thank goodness he won, although he did have a type advantage considering all those water types he captured, before you ended up falling asleep way earlier than usual. Must've been the room service breakfast, but she was also kind enough to order a small stack of waffles for your hungry self. Perfect! It wasn't long for the both of you to get packed and meet up with the boys outside the inn waiting for you two by that weird mechanical elevator.
"Hurry it up, Gloria!," Hop called over waving an arm.
"We're coming! Boy how early do you all wake up?"
You were a bit cranky. Still a bit groggy so early in the morning and having to lug around extra weight on your back as your drizzilie had insisted on jumping onto your back and took residence inside your back pack. Most of his body was inside the backpack amongst your other belongings but his head and arms were thrown over your shoulders as he refused to start walking chirping in protest when you tried to reason with him and wouldn't let you put him in the pokeball so you had to get creative with a compramise. Moving all the food you carried into the secondary pocket leaving just your clothes in the main space of your pack and leaving enough room for it to find acceptable. You wondered if the reason Drizzilie didn't want to go back into it's pokeball was in fear something like what happened yesterday would happen again, being used to getting carried by now, or if this was just because of the lazy behavior Hop mentioned before?..Or maybe a combination of the three? The boys gave a couple chuckles at the sight of your new situation but stopped when you tossed them a look and changed the subject by making the elevator go.
"So. Have you three decided where you want to go next?," you asked walking up to the exit of Motostoke that lead out to the Wild Area.
Gloria and Hop nodded. Victor just shuffled uncomfortably. Huh..Know that you thought about it, he seemed to be letting the other two just pick where you went-
"Yeah. I wanna stay here for a few more days and catch some pokemon," Hop answered.
Gloria blinked at him. "Wha- But I wanted to stop by Hammerlocke."
Hop stopped walking immediately just outside of the giant exit. Making Gloria stop and blink at the bewildered expression on her friend's face. "Hammerlocke? Why would you go there? You know Raihan doesn't battle anyone unless they have seven badges."
"Yeah. I know, but it's on the way to Stow-on-side." She explained with a smile. "Bea sounds like a good challenge for me to tackle next being the fighting type gym leader. Hammerlocke just happens to be on the way there."
"Eeehhhh. I dunno Glor. I really had my mind set on taking on some wild pokemon. With a stronger team comes a stronger trainer right?"
"I...guess so..."
"'kay. How 'bout this? If you're all that dead set on going to Hammerlocke, you can go and we'll we'll meet up with you there!"
Gloria seemed not too keen on that idea for a moment but sighed and nodded. "Alright. But how are you planning on getting there?"
Hop went to answer, but paused. Gold eyes blinking widely before leaning over to the right to look behind you all. "Huh? Hey. Is that who I think it is coming this way?"
Brown and f/c color eyes followed the path of Hop's gold ones to look behind you and the three of you paused at seeing who exactly was jogging towards you all. Coming towards you in all his firey glory was the 'Man Of Fire' Kabu himself. What was he doing here? ...Oh no! Were you all in trouble with what happened yesterday!?Was he angry from your sobble-..Er..Drizzilie's tears?! Were you all going to be billed or something!? You all couldn't pay any medical bills! None of you had enough money! The gym leader jogged right up to the four of you as you all exchanged confused or worried looks before stopping in front of you all.
"Thank goodness I managed to catch the lot of you before leaving Motostoke," he stated. It..didn't sound like he was angry.
"You're the gym leader, but you still came all the way to see us off?," Hop questioned, "...Oh! I bet you can already tell that I'm the one who'll become the next champion, yeah?"
To your surprise the older man chuckled and gave a smile. "There are many trainers who never manage to gather three or more gym battles, and they just give up on the gym challenge all together. So I make a point to see off any trainers who are able to defeat me. So allow me to send you off with a proper, sporty chant." He cleared his voice as you raised a hand to say he didn't have to- "Hustle, hustle, hustle Hop! You can do it, you can do it, Gloria!" ...Gloria gave off a few giggles and you lightly kicked her foot to get her to stop. "The Gym Leaders you will face ahead are all tough opponents. But I believe you will prevail! Believe in your pokemon and keep pushing on!"
"Thanks y'all! We're gonna keep winning!," Hop confirmed with a smile and thumbs up towards the older man, "We've got too if we want a face-off in the Champion Cup after all! C'mon, Everyone!" He spun on his heels and pointed towards the exit. "Let's head for Hammerlocke!" And ran off.
Victor groaned turning to walk after him. "Not again."
You chuckled and rolled your eyes. You wish you had that much energy. "Gloria correct?" You blinked and turned your head over to Kabu who was looking at Gloria. "That was a most unexpected battle the other day. As I already said, I'll have to learn from it. But I don't suppose you'd mind telling me how you thought of such strategies?"
She beamed. "Of course! Your league card listed your pokemon and their main abilities like everyone else! So I used that info. Your ninetales was pretty fast on it's feet, so it made sense to use a move that wouldn't let it use that speed. But arcanine are built bulkier and have more muscle than a ninetales. They may be fast on their feet too, but no where near the speed of raboot or ninetales. So speed and agility would've been the way to go. And as for your centiskorch, I didn't have a lot of pokemon that could withstand it's fire power, so I had to find a way around that. A sobble's tears seemed like the greatest force to fight it."
He hummed before nodded once again. "I see. Well then I must train my pokemon to overcome your sobble's tear attack before another trainer gets the same bright idea as you did."
"Oh it wasn't my sobble." She pointed at you and he looked at you. .....Then to the Drizzile's face lazily staring back from your shoulder. "It was hers."
"I see...Well then, Miss. I'll have to congratulate you on raising such a strong water type. I have no doubt that it'll make a mighty Inteleon one day."
You smiled as your drizzile patted your shoulder. "Thanks! I think he's a good boy too. Ain't that right?" Embarrassed your pokemon tutted and looked away making the old man chuckle.
"We'll then. I shall leave you. I must be off to start training up before the next gym challenger comes knocking at my door."
"We outta get going too. I have a feeling we're in for a long trip ahead of us." .....Hey. Now that you thought about it...Your eyes widened. Wasn't there some kind of character development or a tragic event that happened to one of the characters after the player received their third gym badge??..."Yeah. We better catch up to the other two."
You managed to pull Gloria away bidding good bye to the jogging gym leader and pulled her out of Motostoke at last. Onto the dirt path leading out of Motostoke and splitting in three directions to chose from. You spotted the two boys somewhere up ahead as the two of you approached. Hop throwing his hands up into the air pumped.
"Hello again, Wild Area, my old friend!," he shouted to the sky, "I've come back to you even stronger than before!"
"Hop you don't need to shout." Victor adjusted his pack on his back with a roll and stretch of his shoulders. "If anything you might scare away any good potential pokemon with that racket."
....He hummed. "Well I guess you have a point about that, Vic." ..He turned his head more towards the two of you girls approaching before he smiled and twisted around fast to face the both of you. "Gloria! Hammerlocke is up that way." He pointed towards where the road split off towards the left. "Got it? Over Motostoke bridge and straight on down the road a ways. And yeah, you could certainly rush there without a single detour....But now that you and I have a few gym badges, we should be able to catch stronger pokemon! So I know what I'm doing!"
" And what's that mate?" Gloria asked in a tease.
"I'll be catching myself some amazing pokemon to fill in the next page in the tale of my legend!" You chuckled at his enthusiasm.
All of a sudden your Drizzilie turned to look behind you as footsteps approached. "Don't waste your efforts." The rest of you followed suit to stare at the figure just now leaving Motostoke as well. And your eyes widened slightly. "It's not like any of you would ever make it through the gym challenge anyway." The one who approached the two of you was none other than Bede. The poor gave that smug smirk he always did and placed a hand on his hip staring at the lot of you. "The Champion really must have been off his rocker to endorse likes of you."
"WHAT DID YA SAY YOU LAVENDER SOAKED EYED COTTONEE FOR BRAINS!?" "DON'T YOU INSULT MY BRO LEE LIKE THAT!!" Gloria and Hop shouted and made a move to step forward but you grabbed onto her back pack to pull her back effectively also blocking Hop with your other arm as the two shouted with glares at him.
"Whoa there you two." You gave him a glare and he slowly looked up towards you the smug grin turning into somewhat of a frown. "I thought you left after collecting those Wishing Stars from the mines. Did you stay behind just to insult them? That's a pretty lame thing for you to be doing with your free time."
He didn't answer right away which made you raise a brow until he tutted and turned his head away. "I was going to leave after a day's rest here, but after hearing these three were going to battle Kabu I decided to stick around and watch the pitiful efforts of my enemies. I mean, Hop here can't even throw a poke ball properly."
You saw Hop flinch. Oh no..You remembered somewhat of him saying he practiced throwing the ball sometime during your first meeting with Leon. "Rubbish! More like you don't know enough to recognize greatness when you see it! My throws are the greatest and my bro is the finest champion the world has ever seen! I'm not gonna listen to you insult him!"
"How tiresome," Bede mutter again running a hand over his hair. "Fine. I'll battle you over there." He pointed a hand towards some trees. "Maybe that will help you finally understand just how weak you are."
Hop growled and your brows rose in shock at his sudden anger. You didn't think the ever chipper Hop could've gotten so mad. "You're on then. I know you challenged Gloria in Galar Mine Number Two and lost to her there." Your eyes widened more glancing between the two of them as Bede frowned more....So THAT'S what Bede meant by them causing him trouble. "And I'm her greatest rival. In other words there's no way you're beating me."
"All this prattle about Gloria and the Champion and whatnot. Do you not have anything of your own to show?"
"YOU BET YOUR SORRY PINK TUTU BUTT HE DOES COTTON FOR BRAINS!!," Gloria shouted giving another tug against your grip on her as she leaned forward, angry glare that could put a dynamaxed pokemon to shame, hands balled into fists at her sides. Her sudden spout of anger caught Bede off guard enough to take a few steps back from the red faced girl spitting her scottish accent at him. "I'll have you know Hop's one of the smartest, most kindest people I know! He's a bloody genius who knows all kinds of pokemon skills! 'E's like a walking dictionary of smarts that's how skilled he is! He knows more than you and me put together so badger off with your sorry excuses!! I don't see you doing anything but complain about everyone else and praise the chairman like he's Arceus 'imself!" Victor grabbed onto his sister's other arm pulling her back with you at this point. "Yet ya complain 'bout us talkin' 'bout how amazin' Lee is!? When are ye gonna step up from being a walkin' billbourd for the Chairman n' his bloody secretary and show me somethin' huh!? HUH!? How 'bout you take ya own advice!?"
"GLORIA THAT'S ENOUGH!!," Victor shouted in his own scottish accent at her pushing her back by a wide eyed Hop as she continued to glare angrily at Bede who remained silent and wide eyed at her. "CALM DOWN!! Ok!?...I'm pretty sure he's gotten the point by now."
"Oh he better!"
"Hey! That's enough now!," you agreed giving her your own frown, keeping your grip on her back pack in case she tried anything. "I think you're scaring him." Gloria paused enough to give you her own stare, as you turned to look at Bede who continued to stand and stare....before he blinked, quickly whirled on his heel and sped walked away with his hands forced into his pink coat's pockets.
"I-I'll wait for you over there! Don't keep me waiting!"
Gloria huffed, jerking her body from her brother's grip as she glared at his leaving form. "Yeah? Well he started it by causin' all of us trouble n' insulting us for no reason. The bloody cottonee born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Ey Hop?".....She rose a brow when her friend didn't answer and turned to the silent boy staring wide eyed at her. "....Hop? Are you ok?"
".....I-..." He coughed reaching a hand up to rub at his neck as he looked off. "I mean uh....That was some roasting you gave h-him back there. Heh."
"Well it's true!," she insisted pointing at him, "You were the smartest kid in school! And y'know so much about science, and history, and you can calculate math in your head faster than a calculator could. You know so much about pokemon that I know you'd be a great Champion. That's why I got so angry at him."
Hop stared at her again mouth opening a little..before sputtering on his words. "I- You- R-Really?"
She crossed her arms and nodded with a huff. "'Sides, I wasn't about to let the Mareep Head get away with smack talkin' my best friend and his brother. If he's going to bring a fire then he better expect someone to roast him back!"
He stared at her a moment longer before an unmistakable red washed over his face as he quickly looked away. "R-Right! T-T-That's what friends do after all! D-Don't worry. I'll show this guy my skills in battle! S-So..." With that he quickly turned and began jogging off from the three of you. "See you later, Glory! L-Let's meet up in Hammerlocke when I'm through with him!"
Well whaddya know!? You smiled watching as Hop scampered off in a knowing way as Victor sighed before turning to his twin. "DONT DO THAT!!"
"Do what?"
"Try to fist fight another gym challenger like yer in a wrestlin' ring! Ya cook! What would've happened if that guy told ye off to the Chairman especially after you had dinner with him in Hulbury?! You'd get yourself kicked out by him or worse both yaself and us since you were defendin' 'is honor like in the bloody stone ages!?" You had started to notice a pattern that the accent would become more prominent in their voices when they were angry.
"Like I would've actually tried to punch him! I know better then ta throw hands and risk somethin' like that now."
Victor groaned reaching his hands up to rub at his face. "I love ya but you drive me crazy!"
"I could say the same for you too."
.....Still rubbing his temples Victor turned. "I have to catch up with Hop before they start fightin' again. Make sure she stays out o' trouble."
"I can-"
"I was talkin' to Y/n!" He shouted back making Gloria pause as he walked off....And it was finally your turn to chuckle.
With a huff she placed her hands on her hips with a glare. "Well that's just a bunch of flamin' Rapidash crap if I ever heard it!"
You nodded reaching up to rub your face, finally letting go of her backpack as you did. "He has a point tho. If you and your opponents want to have a battle then that's fine, but you guys shouldn't get into fights like that." She hummed but didn't say anything else to that. "Come on. Let's get going to Hammerlocke. I'm curious about this place. If we're lucky we might meet the selfie guy himself hangin' 'round his gym!"
"Oh boy. Can't wait to see what the big bad strongest gym leader has to show."
"I think you'll like 'em. Lee said he's one of the kindest people he's met in the industry...But there is one thing I should warn ya 'bout."
"What?"
"He's a playful teaser so he'll probably try to flirt with ya when he sees ya."
"........He's going to what?"

Games Mero Played, 2022 edition
Yeah the year’s ending, and among other things I’ve been wanting to practice my writing skills in general so here’s short review type things about most of the games I played this year, big and small (as long as I remember them). Not that anyone’ll read this but yeah. Might do one for books too later.
So, in no particular order:
Xenoblade 3 - This one was fun. For those who don’t know me, I’d say that Xenoblade is probably on my Top 2 favourite game series (the other being Zero Escape DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON ZERO ESCAPE), so I was, obviously, extremely excited for this one, so much so I timed my work vacation to play this game. And boy did I need those 3 weeks off, this game, as most jrpgs, took like 200h to complete, enjoyable all the way. Really the only problem to be said abt it is that the real climax of the story happens like 4/5ths into the game? And the rest feels a bit like they ran out of steam or money or time, or all of the above. A greatly dissappointing final stretch, bland final dungeon and tedious final boss kinda sour the game’s conclusion, but otherwise this really was THE rpg of the year.
Splatoon 3 - I’m don’t think I’m that big a fan of splatoon? Like, the gameplay is very fun indeed, but I guess multiplayer games in general will tire me out quickly as I get very salty very fast when I don’t win. But that aside Splatoon 3 is great! Very fun! Cute squid-octopus-kids abound! A fun single player mode that feels complete! Whenever some of my friends want to play something together I think this will be our go to game. I just wish this  ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME’s online wasn’t such utter garba- Connection Error, you have been disconnected
Bayonetta 3 - Oof. Thats all I can really say abt this game, unfortunately. Well, clearly not, as there’re more a big paragraph here, but ‘oof’ does capture my feelings in all. I was so so so excited for this game. I loved the previous two games (though Im faaaar from a actual avid player of them, pure platinum is just not something I have patience for, and I didn’t even beat any of the superbosses throughout the series), and I love Bayo very very much. The VA drama happenned, and yes it did dampen my hype a decent amount, but I was still excited to play the game which I did and..... yeah. This game’s just not as fun as the previous games, by far. There’s no fun Bayo backtalk, this time she just lets the  villain monologue. There are a few fun, campy setpieces as usual, but they’re surrounded by such a dour atmosphere! One of them does come close to making the game as fun as the previous ones though, the Ba’al Zebul fight  specifically (this here was THE DIVA MOMENT I wanted. But Bayo herself barely reacted or interacted with her, she just looked silently on after the fight, as she did most of the game). But then the ending happenned and it lands with as much grace as shit hits the toilet (mind you, I don’t really care about the straight thing? Sure it comes out of nowhere but it’s as plausible as anything at that point. What really bothered me was the FOUR ‘Oh we won! oh wait no’ sequences that happenned. In succession. With no payoff). And then there’s the combat, which, yeah, is much closer to the engaging fun of the previous titles’ than the story, but somehow it still didn’t click with me, though yeah keep in mind here I’m not a hardcore player of action games. It’s just... disappointing. I don’t think I’m playing the next games in the series, at least not at launch. I’ll want confirmation that the tone is back where I like it first, at least. Even though it came out years ago, I think Astral Chain takes the cake between these two.
Pokemon Legends Arceus - I didn’t expect much from this game, but in the end it was a fun, refreshing experience. I had a blast exploring Sinnoh through this past lens, even though the edges were very..... polygonal, and the gameplay and focus on just catching oodles of pokemon was like a breath of fresh air. Sure the plot was as simple as I expected, but there were enough twists there to tide me over, and the soundtrack sure helped. I did not play sword and shield, and really only played this cause I love Sinnoh so much (and cause a friend lent it to me), and it was my enjoyment of this game which led me to tentatively buy...
Pokemon Violet - I bring nothing new to the table here. These games might be the best pokemon has felt since black and white, the story (all 3 routes, really) might be basic and not that imaginative, but they’re executed more than satisfacorily, the soundtrack is great and the pokemon themselves are more than decent, barring a couple duds (bellibolt I loathe you. Pawmot you have no reason to exist). BUT yeah these games are broken to shit. Like, yes this is unexcusable. Which makes it all the more confounding WHY do I want to keep playing this game??? I just hope the next games in the series take their sweet time getting here. Please Pokemon Company, let the devs at GameFreak REST.
Dragon Quest XI Echoes of the blablabla S - I played this this year??? Wow. Anyway, a great jrpg with decent enough plot, honestly what I expected from a dragon quest game: doesn’t take itself too seriously but still manages to keep you engaged throuhout. A highlight was the final boss actually needing your party to be close to lvl 99, which is rare for jrpgs.
Touhou 18.5 100th black market - ZUN wanted to make a roguelike and he sure did it! I’m not the best at danmaku games, even though they hold a special place in my heart, but this game was so easy to cheese I managed to 100% it! Take from that what you will, but if anything this was a great continuation from what UM brought to the table.
The Gardener and the Wild Vines - A short indie puzzle-action game, plus it’s gay! I didn’t bother finishing all the challenges, just beat the story and got its collectibles, but honestly this game’s blend of fast action and puzzle elements was fun enough, even though it got a bit button mashy at times. Idk I feel like Im underselling it, it was a charming and engaging experience, clearly heartfelt, and it feels fun to play.
Boyfriend Dungeon - The only game here I just dropped like 80min in, uncerimoniously. I could just copy paste my steam review here, but tldr: ‘The romance aspect feels cheap, simultaneously needing you to engage with it but rejecting you, and that un-makes the game. Combat’s fine but nothing special’.
Bad End Theater - A cute lovely visual novel, which lets you guide the narrative through 4 characters. Small and comfy feeling! Honestly not much else to say other than I enjoyed it!
Great Ace Attourney Chronicles - Almost a remake of the first AA, but in a cool new setting and with different enough characters. Fun throughout, save for a couple of the middle cases, as usual. This game’s failings are the usual AA failings, ‘oh you know how this case will play out already?? Well prepare to slooooowly watch the characters figure it out for 5 whole hours’. I understand why it’s like this but it’s still agonizing. Other than that, man do I feel bad for the people who played this game in 2 parts in the 3ds. The first one alone really isn’t a complete experience. In this package, though, thourouly enjoyable, and an amazing OST.
Paradise Killer - this one is cheating a bit, as I completed it previously around a year ago I think? But there was a decently big content update and I replayed it in full and honestly. This game is a delight. While sure the mystery in itself isn’t anything special, the setting is so interesting. The idea of getting to explore this whole island and collect clues around the whole place is a great one, and all while listening to a STELLAR soundtrack. Do yourself a favour and play this game.
Tales of the Neon Sea - This.... was fine. An interesting, if cliche, cyberpunk setting, an interesting enough mystery... I’ll be honest this game did not stick in my mind, it’s pretty bland, even though it’s fun enough. Sadly the things I most remember about this game are that it opens with a mystery unrelated to the rest of the plot and ends with an unengaging cliffhanger that comes out of nowhere. They’re trying to set up a series, here, but it wasn’t worth it.
Touhou Dream Logical World - The first touhou danmaku fangame I played! And it’s fun enough, the aspect shift mechanic brought a lot of fun to me playing the game, as even if I was just trying to survive a whole run it made me play for a highscore. Some patterns are just bullshit though, especially on first encounter. Oh and the plot is complete nonsense, and it takes waaay too much time from playing. This made me realise that the less speech boxes before a boss, the better, at least for this type of game.
Yugioh Master Duel - I’ve watched yugioh youtubers for a couple of years now, but I still don’t play the game. I tried a bit in this, but... I lost a lot, raged, refused to engage with the gatcha system (don’t do gatcha kids) and uninstalled. As a virtual way to play the game though, its fine.
Bugsnax - I got this as soon as it came out on steam and boy was it worth it. A fun romp through a deserted island, with interesting mystery and lore thats developed just enough to wet the appetite. What really got me though were the characters, I ended the game having enjoyed pretty much everyone, everyone was surprisingly hearfelt, even through the goofy lens of the game! Oh and the snax are great, love bunger.
What the Golf - Cute puzzle game! ...honestly not much more to say. All the levels are fun to at least complete on a first go, some of the 100% challenges go above and beyond to have a fun twist on an already fun twist on golf! Some of these completion challenges though are just... trial and error, and I do not have the patience for that. All in all though, you can tell that the devs had a blast coming up with the weirdest ways to play ‘golf’, and that joy is present throughout.
Aer: Memories of Old - I got this game massively discounted and tbh thats the way it should be bought. Not that its bad per se, flying around and solving puzzles is pretty fun and engaging, even though there’s not that much to do. The big disappointment here is the plot. There’s not much of it, but that in and of itself is not bad. It sets itself up kinda like botw, in the sense that there’s a little set up and then you’re free to explore, and there are some clues as to what happenned here and there. But then the game sets up its endgame, getting into this big monolith in the middle of the map, and you do and then... its over. No boss no resolution to the mysteries, nothing to cap off the experience, there’s barely a cutscene and it ends. This is another one I played a while ago, and honestly? The bummer is that that lack of an ending is what stuck.
Moonlighter - This was a fun one, finding items in dungeons at night and selling them in the day was a great gameplay loop! I played up to the final boss, but in the end didn’t bother beating it for whatever reason. I think in the end the combat itself, while fun, didn’t scale great to the later dungeons/bosses.
Cities Skylines - City builders like this are a lot of fun, and I thought I’d get so much out of this game... but turns out I just don’t have the patience, focus and/or force of will to play these types of games for a long while. Good for what it is, and I learned a bit abt myself in the process.
Final Fantasy XIV - Yeah yeah I played the acclaimed yadda yadda free demo up to level blah blah with expansion and cheese. This game’s fun! Thoughrouly enjoyable. Just another game that I just don’t really have the patience for, turns out. I got to what I think was the end of the main plot and peaced out, but what I played was good enough. Doesn’t help no other friends of mine play it, or that my skull’ll melt if I engage in social activities through an MMO.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - A lovely experience. I don’t know how, but I think this was the most perfect game I played this year! Just pure joy from begginning to end! And I think what really made me just... happy, from this game, was that I was perfectly content when I 100%ed it. I felt extremely satisfied with basically everything I played. Sure I could go for a few more levels or a replay now, but then, when I finished the game, I felt like everything was its perfect length. Kirby came to 3D and showed that waiting however many years for this was entirely worth it.
AI The Somnium Files: nirvanA Initiative - Uchikoshi strikes again!! And man how do I love it when he strikes. The man’s an icon, even though he’s not the director this time around. His games are iconic too! There’s not much I want so say about this game other than ‘go play it’, it’s a great mystery game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Sure the main, big twist may be a bit too... out there, and there IS an aspect of it that I dislike, but just the way every detail falls into place? I love that shit. The characters? So much fun!! The main mystery? Sure it’s not perfect, but damn is it fun to experience. Again, I love these games!!! Oh, and the completion bonus?!?!?? Oh my god. Oh my god!! What a treat!!! I was laughing to myself almost crying. You can definetly tell that this guy and the team he works with at Spike Chunsoft love the games they’re making.
I think that’s everything? Or at least most of everything. If it’s not here then damn that game was forgettable, I guess. All in all a pretty decent year! A lot of 3′s. The best game I played I think has to go to kirby, but my favourite of the year.... idk a year is a long time and I enoyed a lot of these games.
If you’re interested Im probably going to post links to all the indies here in a reblog, so check if that’s already there!

Pokemon AU
Sooo I’ve been obsessed with Pokemon since I was a little girl haha. I lovedddd the anime and adore the games! Legends Arceus was sooo much fun to play recently. Anywho, I hope you like this AU haha.
AO3
“Tikki?!” Marinette shouted out questioningly, feeling almost panicked as she looked over at her Pokemon. She had just left a few moments ago to go pick up some Oran berries for her little Ledian. Now that she came back to the small clearing that she had left her Pokemon in, though, she saw a boy in all black with a dark mask holding a Pokeball in his hand as he crept closer to Tikki.
Oh god, please tell me he’s not Team Rocket, Marinette pleaded with herself as she raced over. Ledian chirped cheerfully when she saw her, buzzing happily. She slowed her pace down as she stared over at the boy suspiciously. “Excuse me but what exactly are you doing?”
He blinked at her before blinking at Tikki. Almost immediately he gave her a bright grin, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. “Oh, I’m sorry is this your Ledian? I didn’t realize she already had an owner.”
Almost immediately, Marinette relaxed. So he wasn’t Team Rocket then. Good. Clearing her throat, she gestured to the mask on his face. “You probably shouldn’t wear that, you know. I thought you were Team Rocket and trying to steal her.”
His gaze widened as he patted the mask. Shaking his head, he murmured, “Sorry, that wasn’t my intention.”
He kicked at the grass, making no move to either take off the mask or introduce himself. Clearing her throat, she took a step forward and motioned to herself and her Pokemon. “Well, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Marinette and this is Tikki, my partner.”
His eyes darted around for a moment, looking almost nervous before he gave her another small grin, saying, “Oh! A-and I’m uh... Chat Noir! Yeah, Chat Noir!”
One of Marinette’s eyebrows rose as an amused smile twitched across her lips. He was a little odd but he also seemed rather sweet. “Chat Noir? That’s your name?” she asked, giggling quietly.
“Mhm,” he hummed, bobbing his head up and down before his eyes brightened. “Do you want to do a little Pokemon battle? My Umbreon versus your Ledian?”
She gaped at him, feeling a little shocked by how quickly he wanted to battle her. Didn’t he understand type advantages? His Dark-type Pokemon would be weak to her Bug-type Pokemon. Feeling slightly hesitant, she asked, “A-are you sure?”
“Yeah!” Chat chirped. “It’ll be my first real Pokemon battle!”
His first Pokemon battle? He didn’t look much younger than her and Marinette had already got three gym badges. Chewing her lip, she decided that she would help teach him a little bit about battles. After all, she had been pretty lost when she first started too.
Nodding her head, she murmured, “Alright, come on then, Tikki! Time to battle.” Her Ledian grinned over at her proudly before getting into position, looking ready.
Chat looked excited as he threw his Pokeball, shouting, “Come on out, Plagg!”
The Umbreon shook itself off, licking its paw rather lazily. Marinette smiled at the cute black cat, pulling out her Pokedex and logging the new Pokemon. Alright! It was officially time to teach Chat about Pokemon battles. “Tikki use Bug Buzz!”
Ledian vibrated its wings, sending a dangerous sound wave over to the Umbreon. Plagg didn’t make any effort to dodge, still licking his paw before it hit him with full force. He cried out, flying backwards as the super effective move landed on him.
“Plagg!” Chat shouted before he narrowed his eyes at her. “You’ll regret that! Come on, buddy use Double-Edge!”
His Umbreon shook itself off before rushing at her Ledian, slamming into it with full force before she could dodge out of the way. Her Pokemon winced with pain and her heart trembled at the sight. Marinette hated it when her Pokemon got hurt. Plagg stumbled backward, looking out of breath and even more hurt after that reckless tackle.
“Alright now, Tikki show him the power of Bug moves with Bug Bite!” Marinette pointed over to the Umbreon.
Her Ledian immediately dove for the cat, biting it viciously before she came back, buzzing rather smugly. Plagg stumbled back up, his legs shaking as he wobbled back and forth weakly.
“One more should do it! Plagg use Double-Edge!” Chat yelled once again.
Marinette’s eyes widened in shock. Why would he do that? His Pokemon was barely standing and Double-Edge also damaged the user. Plagg hit Tikki, slamming into her with a rough tackle. They both hit the ground and she felt her heart drop. Was her Pokemon alright? Running over to them, she heard Tikki buzz faintly before floating back upright looking exhausted. Plagg remained on the ground, his eyes firmly closed as he remained fainted.
She blew out a breath of relief, high-fiving her Ledian. “Woohoo! Nice job, Tikki! We did it!”
“Oh no! Plagg!” Chat said, rushing over as he cuddled the fainted Pokemon to his chest.
Marinette looked over at him and his Pokemon, feeling bad for both of them. Rummaging around in her bag, she pulled out a Revive. She nudged it against him, murmuring, “Here you go. Use this and he should be up again.”
Chat grinned over at her gratefully before using the Revive, watching with relief as his Umbreon slowly woke up again. He clutched Plagg to his chest, murmuring his thanks to the Pokemon. With a small laugh, Marinette again reached into her bag and pulled out the Oran berries she had collected previously. Handing half to Chat, she gave the other half to Tikki, petting and cooing over her Pokemon. Immediately, Tikki buzzed happily, doing a flip in the air as she looked healthy once again.
Clearing her throat, she turned once again to face Chat who was stroking his now healthy Pokemon. “Do you know about type advantages?” Marinette asked.
“No. What are those?” He tilted his head up at her curiously.
“A type advantage means that a particular Pokemon will have a stronger effect against the other. For example, your Dark-type Umbreon is weak to my Bug-type Ledian. Three other examples are that Grass is weak to Fire but strong against Water. Fire is weak to Water but strong against Grass. And, finally, Water is strong against Fire but weak to Grass,” Marinette explained, “There’s a lot more but those are the three big ones.”
Chat patted his Umbreon with a sheepish grin. “Wow! I didn’t know that at all! Thanks for telling me. That’ll probably be useful if I come up against another Bug-type like your Ledian.”
She giggled before realization hit her. “Oh! And another thing, Double-Edge is really powerful but it also does damage to your own Pokemon! So you should be careful about using that move if your Pokemon already looks weak.”
“Got it!” He nodded his head eagerly. “I wish I had a pen and paper to write this all down.”
“Trust me.” Marinette patted his shoulder. “The more battles you do, the more experience and knowledge you’ll get. And, besides, you already did really well for your first battle. You almost beat Tikki and she had the type advantage and more experience than your Pokemon.”
“Well, thanks a lot, Marinette.” Chat stood up, giving her another smile. “You taught me so much!”
“No problem, Chat Noir,” she teased before taking a few steps forward, planning to head out of the woods. Pausing a few feet away, Marinette eventually called back, “Hey! If you want, you can come with me! Maybe we can learn together!”
Like a flash he was by her side, beaming at her. “Really?”
“Mhm,” Marinette hummed before resuming her pace as she began leading them out of the woods. Maybe she’d find out why he seemed to like wearing his mask. And, besides, it might be nice to have more company for a change. She had a feeling that she and Chat would get along really well.

my annual February shiny hunt is on soon! February, if that title is to be believed. this year, i’ll try to get two games going: Y and Legends Arceus! i’ll prefer hunting in Y if i have to choose, but i think it could be fun to get the two working together.
in Y, i’ll be in Route 4. i am specifically going for a Shiny Combee, and the closest thing to a zonk is gonna be Ledyba. i expect four, even if i stick to the Yellow Flowers.    that said, every other encounter on the route i consider good. if i somehow manage to get plenty of all ‘mons off of that route, i’ll swoop around to route 22, as that gives a pretty healthy selection with no repeats and no real misses to me. if i somehow manage to get a bunch of ‘mons there too, then i’m gonna call it a good month. :p
as for Arceus’ role in this, it’s to hunt in those Space-Time Distortions. Johtonian Sneasel, Porygon, Magnemite, Cranidos, and Shieldon are exclusive to the bubbles, and i want to make a solid effort to get a full-as-possible living shiny dex in that game, since those are really the big things holding it back. also, Cherubi, sorta, but because i expect there to be a ton of waiting around for the former to pop up, i think it’ll be nice to weave the two together.
depending on exactly how many encounters i get, we might be looking at weekly updates from Y, or possibly a mid-month and end-of-month update about that. Arceus, if i’m lucky, will have enough encounters to stitch together a video for. i’ll hit a bit a ton on the plans and ideas for the rest of the year, i excluded a tangent that seemed a bit much. i’ll just put it under a Keep Reading, because details can get long and i want to respect Dashes.
first things first, the most common thing on this blog, Switch games. hopefully, there’s not gonna be much going on in Splat 3 in Feb. i’d give a sigh of relief if, if there is some event, it was at the end of the month. the rest of the year is gonna be fine, i just don’t want it crunching on the shiny hunt. i expect the DLC this year, but no sense in rushing that. the new game i got for the holidays(i’m excepting World’s End Club) are queuing up, not much to say there. if i get the majority of Distortion Pokemon in Arceus, maybe a small uptick from that afterwards.    about like a week ago, i learned i can way more easily move my teams from any game that can connect to Pokemon Home to my main files, so i want to do a Poison monotype in Shield this year. if anyone wants me to specifically try another type sooner or later, i’m open to the idea, i was thinking about it a bit and realized that Shield is a shockingly light game for me, and i won’t feel too roughed up about replaying that a bit more. that said, if i’m the only one, i already got a priority list lined up(i’m feeling Rock, ice, and Dragon, to match gens 6 & 7, and Steel, which i’ll elaborate on when i get to it, so i know now next years monotypes for X and UM). i doubt i’d do all 18 types, but i’m already considering five, what’s 13 more? maybe trim content, at that point badge completion is more a formality on my end. i don’t feel the need to do a major revisit to any other games i played before.    you know, i think i’m getting a better handle on why i like Nemona so much...
i think the only new full game i know about this year will be Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. it’s on my radar.    that said, 30 minute(maybe more like 3 hour) break, taking a bit to look into planned releases coming up, and a quick browse through the eShop, i got myself a list of other games to keep an eye out for, i figure i’ll get them as i get them if i want to get them. i’m kinda leaning towards other Monster Master sorts of games, the three big ones i saw on there being Temtem, Coromon, and Nexomon. Temtem’s the priciest by about double, i’ll look into the trio sooner or later, see what’s up with them. Dark Souls Remastered sounds serviceable on Switch, and there’s a few others i didn’t expect to find either.
off of the Switch, a small liveblog of Digimon Dawn, which i figure i’ll go with way less posts compared to Dusk, more so detailing differences. for that, i think i’ll aim to start mid-March. then i got some Dragon monotypes between X and Ultra Moon, the latter of which we can expect to see photos from. to better guide me on timing, i know i have a trip to visit family in July, and after that i’ll do a liveblog for a Smeargle team in Moon. maybe a handful of photos from that one? it’s kinda silly to have multiple photos of a single Pokemon over a whole game, especially since the Photo Club isn’t actually IN Moon, and it just gets sillier when the idea of doing an Ultra Moon run is still not wholly off the table in my book.    i don’t want to do a Smeargle run in Ultra Moon yet because, frankly, Molayne scares me more than Hala. this is meant to say more about Molayne than Hala, truthfully. in either case though, the relatively early Route 2 provides Smeargles in both games, so this marks the first time i won’t feel i need to trade a team in. exciting! i got a few ideas already, but i’m not gonna look up much details until later, i’m planning to do this sometime starting in July after all.
