No but really: if you haven't listened to Andre 3000's new album, New Blue Sun, please do. It's really interesting.
Yes, it's experimental and weird and sounds a little like 1990s New Age music, but it's also good because of those things. It's meditative and wandering and not background music. You don't want to let it just sit in the background; you can do other things while listening but you ought to keep one ear on it. (One reviewer said that he could have pushed it a little further and I agree, but it's also really good as it is!)
I think "That Night in Hawaii..." is probably the most "traditionally" structured piece on the album, so while that's the 3rd track, it might be a good spot to dip your toes in.
Anyway, the whole thing is available to listen to for free online. I found it on YouTube (because I'm at work and that's the easiest method).

Use Erotic Massages to Make Every Date an Instant Success Detroit, Michigan
Gentleman, start her engine
I often get body rubs to relieve muscular tension and fatigue stemming from a busy and sometimes stressful life. A body rub has the same calming effect on the mind as meditation. Altering your body rub technique just a little might make it more sexual. You may get a lady very sexy with this body rub technique. For one night at least, the ladies you offer these sensuous full-body rubs to will feel a deep psychological bond with you. This will make achieving orgasms less of a chore.
Learn sexy body rub techniques because...
To woo a partner, nothing beats erotic Detroit body rubs. I have honed my skills as a practitioner and can now make almost every first date a memorable one. If I am with a woman and she lets me body rub her, we will have wonderful sex. After receiving an erotic body rub, a woman's emotional and physical receptivity to touch appears to increase dramatically.
Being patient pays off
The ability to exercise patience is essential while interacting with females. Like a woman's mind and body, body rubs benefit from being given gently and with care. Given that it may take a woman 20 to 45 minutes to become aroused, teasing her with foreplay is an excellent approach to get the "juices" flowing.
Imagine beginning a body rub with something innocent like, "You mind if I give you a foot rub, Ruby?" and working your way up to a more sexually suggestive session. In other words, by the time you are halfway through your routine, she will be so excited that you can have some very steamy sex with her. Does not it just sound wonderful?
Warning!
Always get her permission before transitioning from a relaxing body rub to a more intimate erotica session. If she is into you, she will almost always say yes. However, if you are unsure as to whether or not you should transition into an erotic body rub, you should pause and then ask her whether it is okay to touch them here or there.
Improving Your Body Rub Techniques
If you want to seduce and satisfy ladies, sensual body rub should be one of your go-to "woman pleasers." You should seek out expert advice now so that you may improve your technique. You may learn the fundamentals of sensual body rub by purchasing a few books on Half.com. I do some kind of suggestion-making on my site.
Some Detroit BodyRubs ideas for beginners
Take precautions at all times...
Make sure you will not have any interruptions during the body rub if that is something you are planning. There must be no interruptions of any kind, including phone calls. Ensure that you will have at least an hour to yourself (maybe more because sex usually follows erotic body rubs).
It is important to be ready to provide a body rub. Get the mood just right by turning up the heat and playing some soothing music (like some Sade) in the background. If you want to play music, use a CD player and set it to loop the disc(s) so that the music continues to play without interruptions. It is all about timing again: it is the worst when you have to reach over to switch the song or radio station.
She will realize that you are a thoughtful, romantic guy if you take the time to prepare the scene for her. I bet she can not say that about any of the other men she is dated.
Do not overlook the body rub oils that generate heat. In case you need to reapply the body rub oils, keep them where you can get them quickly. A pause in the flow of the music is something you should avoid.
Maintaining clean hands is another must. Nails should be trimmed and hands washed before handling anything.
When providing or getting a body rub, it is best to do it in light clothing.
To body rub a woman, I normally use a bed or table, but you may also do it on the floor if you have enough pillows and blankets.
The first step in giving her a full-on sexual body rub is making sure she is completely at ease. I need you to tell her to shut her eyes and take several deep breaths. Every so often, inquire as to how it feels and if there is anything specific she desires. For instance, you may query her on whether you should quicken your pace or slow down, or if you should use more or less force. To increase a woman's sexual interest in you, just focus on satisfying her desires.
Do not let go of her; your hands must always be on hers. Do everything in a calm, rhythmic, deliberate manner.
The trick is to transition smoothly from a standard body rub (focused on the back, neck, and arms) to an erotic body rub (focusing on her breasts, inner thighs, clitoris, and G-spot). Work your way from her non-erogenous zones to her erogenous zones. She must look forward to your touch.
Start with your palms and work your way to her more sensitive parts, where you may use your fingers to carefully glide over her skin and send chills up her spine. To manipulate the bigger parts of her body, use your thumbs and hands. You will learn that certain areas (such as the buttocks and thighs) need firmer pressure and others merely mild touches as you acquire expertise (breasts and vulva).
"Okay, so where do I even begin?"
Even though there is no definitive "optimal" spot to begin a body rub, I have personally found that focusing on the feet is the most effective strategy. You need to work your way up from her feet first. She will experience a wide range of feelings when you rub her feet due to the millions of nerve endings present there. Apply pressure on the soles of her feet and the tops of her shoes using circular movements of your thumbs.
You should pay close attention to her rear, as well. Apply gentle pressure with your body while you gently make circular movements with your hands in opposing directions.
The back of her thighs are up next (so have her lie on her stomach for this). Despite its erogenous potential, this area is seldom acknowledged.
Make fun of her genitalia and breasts as you go past. As you body rub her back (or stomach), for instance, you may lightly touch and stroke her labia before working your way down to her thighs. The Nile will be rushing between her legs if you tease her in this way.
Rubbing her genitals
For a more sensual experience, rub her genitalia using a water-based lubricant.
Since every woman is unique, it is important to find out from her how quickly and gently she likes to be handled. When it comes to clitoral stimulation, some women enjoy it when you use your tongue and fingers, while others would rather you stroke and kiss their labia.
To get the greatest results, I found that starting with clitoris stimulation and working my way towards G-spot stimulation was the most effective strategy.
Do not use too much pressure when rubbing her clitoris. The clitoris should be rubbed in two stages: first, along its shaft; then, briefly, along its tip. The best approach to stimulate her clitoris is to move in circular, zigzagging movements, adjusting speed and direction as needed. Put on a lot of gel.
Final thoughts...
You should learn erotic body rub as a seduction tactic. All women need physical contact because it makes them feel appreciated and brings them closer to their lovers.

Note
How do you think things like theater and entertainment differs between the provinces/races of Tamriel? I imagine bawdy comedies are popular in Cyrodiil while Summerset prefer historical epics
I’ll be totally honest: I don’t have loads of time for entertainment, and when I’m catering for a banquet I’m too busy behind the scenes to be able to stop and enjoy shows! However, from what I have been able to gather, these are some of the weird and wonderful performances I’ve been lucky enough to watch across Tamriel.
Altmer
The very best entertainers from Summerset are from the House of Reveries, a time-honoured guild of mysterious masked performers who can do anything from acting to dance, music, and magic tricks. Every year, the House puts on a revue featuring the best of their talent, drawing crowds from near and far. I attended one of the revues as a guest a couple of years ago, and had an excellent time! From a historical opera about the Oblivion Crisis to fire-twirlers and a whole orchestra, the House of Reveries is without doubt the most prolific and capable of Tamriel’s entertainers. If you’re able to make it to their home in Summerset, catching any performance is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Argonians
Argonians love music and dance, whether it’s at a tavern or a bonding ceremony! Most famous of their instruments is the vossa-satl, a keyboard instrument that’s powered by the croaks of frogs (really)! While it sounds absurd if you’ve never encountered one, there’s something beautiful about the tuned croaking that really evokes the ambiance of the deep swamps of Murkmire. Vossa-satls can be played on their own, accompanied with singing and drums, or even are even played on special occasions as quartets. An awful lot of fun to dance to as well!
Bosmer
The Bosmer are known for their entrancing shadow-puppet plays, which people come from far and wide to see. Narrated by a Tale-Spinner, these plays feature puppets made from stiff hide, whose shadows are projected against an opaque leather screen. It’s accompanied by music played on bone flutes and pipes, drums, and throat-singing that has an almost meditative quality. These puppet shows tell traditional stories Valenwood such as of Falinesti, Y’ffre, the Green Lady and Silvenar, and much more. I don’t really know what they’re on about most of the time due to the peculiar use of language and riddles used by Bosmer tale-spinners, but it’s an absolutely riveting way to spend your evening if you’re in Valenwood.
Bretons
Breton theatre is an interactive experience, so put on your dancing shoes and ready those rotten apples! Over-the-top musical comedies and dramas are a favourite of the Province, typically featuring anywhere from a handful to a couple dozen actors and a small band. The audience is encouraged to play along and it’s not uncommon to find yourself hoisted on stage to throw a pumpkin at the villain of the show! Comedic puppet shows like Punch-and-Julian are popular with young and old alike, and use cloth puppets or marionettes which are more detailed than Bosmeri shadow puppets. And of course, nobody loves The Lusty Argonian Maid’s adventures quite as much as the Bretons, so be sure to catch a performance (sometimes a themed costume party, for the saucier citizens) while you’re in High Rock!
Dunmer
Traditional Morrowind entertainment has a strong focus on magic, particularly illusion magic to scintillate the crowd (especially in areas where the Telvanni hold influence). The Dunmer are keen lovers of puppet shows, somewhat like Bosmer shadow puppets, but instead prefer the use of large, doll-like marionettes that are carved to look wonderfully realistic to show the characters and creatures of a bygone age. My favourite was an epic about St. Jiub and his quest to rid Morrowind of cliff racers, and it was accompanied by some frankly terrifying and realistic illusions of cliff racers which soared above the crowd and caused quite a panic! The Brave Little Scrib may thus be the safest bet for beginners to Dunmeri theatre, or those with a weak constitution.
Imperials
When it comes to entertainment, nobody in Tamriel puts on a show quite like the Imperials. The Arena is known for its bloody fights and betting, but has also been used for everything from huge circus performances and opera to the famous mock naval battles. The latter are a spectacular annual event where the arena floor is flooded and real ships are brought in to fight, complete with “pirates”, cannons, sword-fighting, and much more! Definitely not suitable entertainment for children, but if you love the ostentatious and over-the-top, be sure to visit the Imperial Arena (or any of the other smaller arenas that dot the Province) for some truly stunning shows.
Khajiit
In addition to their amazing skill at stringed instruments, the Khajiit are known for their dance and acrobatic skills. Traditional dancers in Elsweyr train for years at academies and temples alike, with a training regime that rivals their peers in the martial arts. This training also includes some jaw-dropping acrobatics and contortion, making Khajiiti circuses extremely popular as they travel around, usually as part of a Baandari troupe. Unlike the circuses staged in Cyrodiil, these troupes are usually made of a handful to a dozen performers, each with their own unique talents and abilities. A typical performance usually starts with dancers to warm up the crowd, followed by heart-stopping acts like trapeze, tightrope, and walking over hot coals! If you want to be wowed, be sure to grab a ticket the next time a Khajiiti circus troupe is in town; you won’t be disappointed!
Nords
You’re probably very aware of the famous Bard’s College of Solitude, one of the most prestigious institutions to study music in all of Tamriel. However, bards do far more than play the lute and sing songs. They are well-versed in recounting tales, especially historical ones (albeit with some embellishment). You’ll be on the edge of your seat listening to amazing original and time-honoured kennings and songs, preferably around the fire with a tankard of mead. While far less ostentatious than most other entertainment you’ll find in Tamriel, there’s nothing quite as cosy as a bardic evening at the tavern.
Orcs
The Orcs aren’t generally fans of theatre, but they sure do enjoy entertainment in the form of sports like Vosh ball and wrestling! Sporting events draw huge crowds of all races, meaning that you’ll find everything from hot snacks to live music in the arena. Vosh ball is a traditional Orcish sport which has been played for centuries, and is prone to getting violent, so grab a helmet (preferably one with a visor) before you sit down, and enjoy the show! Not feeling like watching? In certain cases, you can even give these sports a go in amateur rounds, but you will be asked to sign a disclaimer form…missing teeth, other injuries, and the occasional death aren’t uncommon. You’ve been warned!
Redguards
The Redguards are renowned for their poetry, song, and epic storytelling, often performed by wandering poet-explorers who live off the generosity of strangers. Unlike the traveling bards of Skyrim, you’ll usually need to visit these reclusive storytellers yourself, or host one when they’re in town! It’s well worth the trouble, as these wandering souls usually love performing with anyone else who’s game. One of my most memorable nights out was in Sentinel, where bored locals who came to listen to a visiting poet happened to bring all their talents with them. When the story about the Akaviri invasion ramped up, a few musicians struck up a tune, and for some reason a sword-swallower joined in! Entertainment in Hammerfell is a joyous community affair, and no two performances are ever alike.

With the help of his roommate, Disa, he may have found a way to balance first love and his need for justice.

"My nose wide as the Red Sea (Red Sea) Lips full, fillers don't fill me (Fill me) Soon as my cousin killer's on trial (Woah) Family gon' pull 'em sitting courtside Godsend they say, we singing la-la-la Don't want no vultures on our si-i-ide Looking black as the messi-i-iah I got time…
When we die, where do my people go? To the stars where they can't steal your glow When we die, where do my people go? To the stars where they can't steal your glow Superpower"
Kirby—"Superpower"
Chocolate City.
That's what they called this particular section of dorm housing on the fourth floor of the building known as New House that Erik N'Jadaka Stevens found himself standing in at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
M.I.T.
"No man, this dude is different. He's twenty, but he acts way older. Quiet. Not real friendly…I don't mean in a bad way…he's just not gregarious. Grad student, not a freshman… I didn't ask. He applied to be here and Jay said he'd be a good fit. Oakland…I don't know…"
They were feeling him out already.
The lone voice he heard was in another room talking on a phone. The person wasn't even aware that Erik had entered House One that Chocolate City shared with iHouse, another identity-based undergraduate group who used the first two floors while they used the other three top floors.
Erik had money to get his own apartment or his own house if he wanted. Working for Tony Stark as an intern and a Stark Fellow for a year prior to M.I.T earned him money to live like an adult. Hell, he gave up a luxury apartment and tasteful eclectic furniture to move cross country and hunker down among thirty-one young Black men from around the world—correction, thirty young Black men, and one young white Italian man—who came to study a wide range of STEM-related fields.
Erik stared at the Chocolate City Mission Statement on his phone:
"Chocolate City is a brotherhood of MIT students and alumni who identify with urban culture and share common backgrounds, interests, ethnicities, and/or experiences. By cultivating a tradition of social, intellectual, character, and leadership development, the Brothers of Chocolate City exemplify a high standard of excellence which is founded on continual growth. We seek to enrich the MIT and greater global communities by embodying the principles of our brotherhood."
Taking a deep breath, Erik took time to meditate on what his purpose was in being there in that commons room space at that moment. It was a promise to his Uncle Bakari, Aunt Shavonne, and his Grandpop that he would spend at least six months in the dorm to have a proper group living experience that he didn't have at the Naval Academy. One that was less rigid and military guided. And not a juvenile hall. He shook off the memories.
Six months.
He gave his word.
Erik rolled the suitcase he had with him against a wall and the movement alerted the unseen speaker to end their call. A lanky fade-wearing young man with glasses and very light skin walked in from another room.
"Hi, Erik?"
"Yeah."
"Hey, welcome! I'm Rasheed. Junior year. Engineering. One of two Co-Chairs here. You look different from the Zoom chat…hair is longer…"
They shook hands and Erik ran his fingers over the short 'fro he was cultivating. It was one of the perks of being away from The Naval Academy and Stark Industries. He could let his shit grow freely. He could wear regular clothes. He could stand down.
"Growing it out for a minute."
"Are you wearing gold slugs?"
"Yeah," Erik said becoming annoyed with comments about his appearance.
The moment he left Tony Stark's employ he had pure gold panther slugs made for his bottom teeth to match the ones his Baba used to wear.
"Is this all your stuff?"
"Nah, I have some more out in my car."
"What do you drive?"
"1970 Chevrolet Chevelle."
"What? A muscle car. What color?"
"Black."
"I'll go down and help you bring the rest of your stuff up. Everyone is still moving in and finding the campus. We're having a dorm meeting with the Chocolate City crew before the big New House meeting downstairs later tonight."
"Okay. Cool."
Tumblr media
Exiting the elevator, they walked down the large hall on the first floor to the exit. Outside the afternoon air was crisp and Erik admired the brick of the building as they walked away from it to where he parked temporarily.
Rasheed whistled when he saw Erik's car.
"You sank some money into this bad boy."
"My grandfather had it for years. Fixed it up and passed it on to me. He still adds stuff to it if I ask him too."
"That's cool, bruh. Real cool."
Erik pulled out two more roller bags and a duffle, along with his computer bag from his trunk.
Tumblr media
"That's it?"
"Yep," Erik said.
"You can stay parked here until tomorrow night. That's when you have to use your residency parking passes and move it to your assigned area."
"Bet."
Moving his things back up into his assigned floor, more young men had arrived in their commons and introductions were made. One husky guy with a crimson and white MIT sweatshirt sat on a couch with his laptop playing music. The music switched up and a voice Erik recognized filled the room.
ButtaFly.
A DJ that hosted a popular MIT radio show. A DJ he listened to for months while he worked for Tony Stark.
"You are listening to the Cosmic Café…up next I'm going to have some new music by Kirby, Seinabo Bey, and I'll also throw in some classic Mutabaruka dub poetry. I want to give a big welcome to the new students arriving for the start of a new school year, especially to the young men of Chocolate City. My homegirl Jennifer is the Graduate Resident Tutor there so hey girl…I hear some really brilliant new students are over there, so welcome… welcome to all the folks over at New House…"
Erik stood in front of red and white hoodie.
"Where is the campus radio station at? Do you know?"
"WMBR?" hoodie asked.
"It's in the basement of the Walker Memorial Building," Rasheed said.
"Is that far from here?"
"Not really if you don't mind walking."
Erik pulled up the campus map on his phone.
"What room do I have?" Erik asked.
He followed Rasheed down a hall to the far end. Two twin beds, two desks, a decent window…
No one else had belongings there yet.
Erik picked the side away from the window and dumped his stuff.
"Thanks for helping me," Erik said.
"No problem—"
"What time is the meeting?"
"In two hours—"
Erik left the room with Rasheed at his heels.
"The rest of the guys will be back, and your roommate—"
"Later. I gotta go peep something first. I'll be back on time."
Erik passed by more Black male undergrads entering Chocolate City.
"Hey, Erik!"
Darcy, the other Co-Chair called out to him as Erik headed toward the elevator. A bright white smile on a rich round mahogany face tried to get his attention as Erik swept past.
"I'll be back!" he called out again.
Erik checked his cell phone. ButtaFly's show lasted for another thirty minutes. He stuck in earbuds to listen to her as he walked outside once more. Zipping up the bright orange windbreaker he had on, he used his phone GPS to guide him to his muse. The voice that haunted him for so many months when he worked for Stark. The voice that soothed him when he was in bed alone. The voice that seduced him when he pleasured himself in that big queen-sized bed he used to own.
Things were different now.
He had a twin bed and a male roommate. He had to share cooking duties with young men when he once ate with billionaire playboys and a Black Princess of Monaco. Erik used to fly on a private jet with Tony Stark anywhere in the world and had access to tech that these students were just trying to learn about and would never get to see on a higher level in a lifetime.
So different.
No more smoking weed and jerking off naked to Buttafly's voice in private trying to imagine what she looked like as he came in his hand with deep guttural moans. Very shortly, he would come face to face with the woman of his dreams.
A woman who helped guide him back to his ultimate purpose in life and she didn't even know it.

My loved ones always rely on me.
I give a good advice and I like to listen to others.
I am a bookworm. My friends think I'm a nerd, because I have a excellent marks in school. My favorite subjects are Science, Art and History.
Usually I am studying to school, but in my free time I like reading books, draw something or meditate.
My favorite colors are blue, purple and black.
Thanks dear ❤️
Sure thing😄💕 Thanks~💖💖
🤔I think you'd be paired with... Donatello💜
You've captured the heart of the brains of the ninja turtles
Despite him being a genius, Donnie can't explain what it is that drew him to you, like a moth to light
Purple is his favorite color so if you wear something purple, it'll catch his attention
He's learned how to read Russian, but not exactly how to speak the language
Maybe you can teach him? 😉
He finds your accent to be very attractive
He loves to hear you talk just to hear it
It's rare to find someone who likes and can play an accordion
It might not be his favorite instrument, but hearing you play is more than okay with him
Donnie loves your caring personality
He was happy when you got used to being around him, and his family, because he got to see the real you
Your loyalty also attracted him to you
He really values loyalty in a relationship
He can't imagine how you must've felt being an only child; most children growing up the only one made them feel so lonely
He hopes to fill any emptiness/loneliness in your heart
Donnie learns that he can't really hide anything from you
Your empathy makes it hard for him to convince you that anything is fine and nothing is bothering him
But in the end your hugs and kisses comfort him, making him feel better
He gives you love back in return😍💖
If you're in his lab, and he's working, you can hear AC/DC playing in the background on a radio
He can draw blueprints and such, but he doesn't consider himself an artist
He gets bashful when you look at all the blueprints of his inventions; they're so detailed
He praises your drawings because he really thinks that you have such talent and potential
He likes sci-fi movies and series too
Starwars or Doctor Who is probably number 1 for him, he can't choose
Family and friends are important to him, so he's protective of those close him as well
You can bet that he'll always do his very best to protect you
He appreciates knitting now because of you and Raph
He thinks that knitting or sewing is a skill someone should learn; he can sew
He likes animals, too, but hasn't really had much interactions with any due to Splinters 'No pets' rule
He knows that his brothers rely on him to come up with something for their missions
But he hopes that you don't mind him relying on you sometimes, when he needs you and wants to be with you
He really appreciates that you listen to him
It makes him feel important, to not only you but everyone else
He grew up being a bookworm, always reading and absorbing the knowledge within the pages of books
He likes learning, and likes to cotinie learning; there's always something new
And he hopes that maybe you can teach him something new😘
Donnie loves playing with your long hair and getting lost in your brown eyes
Your hair is so soft
Your eyes, he will never get enough of, because he can see your warm soul swimming in them
His heart melts when you look at him
He loves holding you by your hips or sitting on his lab while he's working on the computer
"I love you so much, Poptart"
"Turtle dove, do you know where I left my screwdriver?"
Lots of cute nicknames and hugs and kisses will come from this turtle boi

Hope it's okay and you got who you wanted😆😅

INTERVIEW: Transformers lore and characters as discussed with my 74 year old mother
Backstory: I talk about fandom stuff a lot with my mom (she’s one of the original Star Trek fangirls so she knows her fandom shit lmao) and recently I’ve been discussing Transformers with her.
Me and my mom are very open with each other, and we have some interesting fandom conversations.
Here are some lines from a recent call with her that I thought might be interesting, regarding Transformers stuff and especially some interesting elderly person perspective on Ratchet. There’s also some talk of the theology in Transformers lore, including Drift and Spectralism, and a bunch of other stuff too.
All conversations transcribed from a recent Skype call, with my mom’s permission.
M is my mom, Me is just me-- So that you can tell who’s talking, lol. When other real people are mentioned, their names are redacted and replaced with an X for privacy.
Getting Started:
Me: Okay, there are a lot of younger fans for Transformers who might be interested in this kind of discussion, but I don’t see a lot of these conversations saved and shared anywhere, so if you don't mind I want to share some of your reactions to learning about Transformers stuff.
M: That’s okay, very professional of you to ask! The internet is a job now, I guess. I’m being interviewed, fancy.
On Ratchet’s Age/Health and older people in media:
Me: Ratchet’s the medic, he’s an old guy. Older than a lot of the other bots. In the comics (MTMTE/LL) he has a chronic illness and he eventually passes away from either that or complications related to it, although we don’t see it happen on the page. It made everyone sad; He’s a fan favourite.
M: I know how that feels, getting old and dying! I had years of thyroid symptoms before they had to take it out, I had endometriosis and they told me I couldn't have you, it’s an unsure thing. Now I’ve had skin cancers removed, I have too much potassium in my blood, I have fibromyalgia. I never expected to live this long.
Everyone is really just guessing at health stuff. It’s ironic that the doctor couldn’t diagnose himself, but I think he probably knew what was wrong and couldn't bring himself to accept it. Old people might accept that we can’t do some things any more but we tend to be depressed about it. Nobody really copes with it very well, you know X had a stroke and now she’s aphasic, can’t speak anymore, can’t read anymore, and she used to be a nurse. She’s older than I am, but it’s sad. She’s so smart and clever, and we’re just old. It’s what happens.
I bet Ratchet was scared. As a doctor, he’d know what can happen when you get old and decrepit. I think he was in denial, a lot of old guys seem to be like that.
Me: He was the medical lead on their ship, the Lost Light. I think you’re right and he wanted to be functional for as long as possible; He wants to be helpful and his job is his life. It would be hard for him; He struggles with retirement in the comics.
M: Sounds about right. I’m old as hell and I still work! Although that’s mostly because we all need money to live, and not so much because anybody wants to have a job at this age, but still. If he liked his job, he wouldn’t want to be pushed out. I loved working at the park; When I had to quit, it was devastating, but I didn’t really have a choice.
By the way, the audiobooks you sent me for X have really made her happy, she can read again, sort of! So thanks for that.
Me: I’m glad the audiobooks I sent you helped!
M: They have, you’re a life saver!
Me: I’m just glad they’re useful for her!
I think it’s interesting that his age is a part of his character in terms of personality and story arc; Do you enjoy seeing older characters in media that reflect the realities of age and being old, even when it’s difficult or possibly depressing?
M: Yes! There aren’t a lot of old characters, and the ones that are out there are mostly just joke characters or you never see them too often. I think the creators must think that old people don’t watch TV or anything, but the reason we don’t tune in is because everything is all about young people, and that can be hard. Watching people run around when you can’t anymore can be painful for those of us who have lost that ability now that we’re elderly, or watching kid-focused stuff can make us miss our families.
It would be nice to see old characters that are included and are competent.
Me: Representation is important.
M: Yes.
On Religion in Transformers:
Me: So, you work in a church. Just pointing it out so readers know where we’re coming from on this.
M: Yep, Episcopalian on the beach here, a small church. Services are mostly online due to COVID so I’ve lost hours on Friday, unfortunately... But I’m not complaining.
Me: And we both like the more spiritual lore type of content, it’s some good shit.
M: Always love seeing ancient Gods in space!
Me: So, there’s another old guy character, Alpha Trion, who’s a kind of sage-like mentor to Optimus Prime.
M: Optimus! He’s the truck! Everyone knows him, he’s the main guy.
Me: Yep! So Alpha Trion is an archivist, and when Optimus Prime was younger, depending on what version of the story we look at, he also used to be an archivist.
M: Librarian truck!
Me: Yes!
M: I love it. You worked at a library for a little bit.
Me: That work placement was the best, loved it. But Alpha Trion, depending on which version of the lore we look at, is hinted to be one of the formative deity-entities on their home planet, Cybertron.
M: Cybertroooooon. Haha! Good robot planet name. I’m into this so far, very cool.
Me: It is! And Alpha Trion is sort of the living memory of the early days of their planet and civilisation, but nobody knows. Everyone just thinks he’s a kind of cryptic weird old guy.
M: Relatable. I like this concept.
Me: It’s pretty good. So generally, things vary a lot from version to version of the story, but there are usually a handful of beings, early Transformers, who make up the character of their ancient lore. These are called the Primes, named after Primus, who pretty much always is depicted as their main God. Like Zeus, or Odin.
M: Very cool. Optimus is a Prime!
Me: Right! In a few versions of the story, he is the final Prime essentially reincarnated. The Thirteenth Prime.
M: That’s very cool.
Me: And in some other stories, Prime is mostly purely a title that has political connotations as well; It gets into a sort of weird Divine Right kind of area to help underscore some of the problems in their planetary political structure that led to the conflict that eventually became their civil war.
M: That sucks, but unfortunately, also relatable. It’s very real world, especially right now. It’s interesting how Transformers is so incredibly in depth; I never would have guessed from the cartoon ads that were on TV when you were little.
Me: Yeah, they seem to hide a lot of the lore, which is a shame. The comics are more adult than most of the TV shows, I think you’d like them.
M: Sounds like it. I love the spiritual robot stuff.
Me: In the comics, there is a religious practice called Spectralism that you might really like. They see auras by filtering different light wave bandwidths through their optics in order to detect mood, and all the colours have meanings assigned to them. They change their paint colours in accordance with those colour meanings as well, on some occasions. Meditation is part of the practice. One of the transformers, Drift, had at least one vision; It’s hinted there might be more to Spectralism, but we don’t see all that much of it in any further detail, unfortunately. They also believe in Primus as a deity.
M: It’s a shame they don’t elaborate more on it. It sounds very cool, like the stuff we were doing in the sixties and seventies. I bet Drift has some black light posters in his room, we had tons of them. Loved the velvet ones.
Me: He does have an altar, I think. Or a least a prayer area, it’s mentioned he meditates fairly frequently, from what I remember.
M: (Starts singing Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple) That was the best, put some tunes on... Good driving music, too!
On Femme Transformers and Sexism in Sci-Fi:
Me: So there are some lady Transformers, too!
M: Ooh!
Me: There’s Arcee, who is the pink one you probably remember from the ads or the cartoons, and in the comics she’s officially transgender.
M: Excellent! Trans-formers. Good.
Me: Yes! And there’s not just her, there’s Nautica and Velocity in the comics as well, plus Elita-One... (I showed her pictures of each.)
M: I like Velocity. I love the teal, the Thunderbird on the back is excellent.
Me: I like Velocity, too.
M: Elita has the head cones, not sure how I feel about that. She’s also pink, it’s hard to keep track of them all. I like Arcee, she has the Princess Leia hair helmet!
Me: I figured you’d like that. It’s pretty good.
M: I like Arcee and Velocity the best so far.
Me: There’s quite a few female or femme transformers now. There didn't used to be, and there were some mistakes made here and there, but nowadays there’s a much wider cast.
M: That’s good, I’m surprised, but in a good way. There were never women main characters in sci-fi stuff when I was a kid, it’s why Star Trek was such a big deal, and even then, it wasn’t all that great. There was Uhura, Nurse Chapel, but there were a lot of weird episodes...
Me: I love the Romulan Commander, though.
M: She was the best! Wished we got to see her more.
Me: Me too. But in Transformers, they’re doing a good job with the female coded characters, as least as far as I’ve seen.
M: That’s good to know. I’m glad that exists for girls who want to play Transformers, too. It always seemed like such a macho thing, the way they advertised it.
Me: Yeah, that’s still a problem to some degree, but I remember it being way more aggressively worse in the 80s/90s.
M: It was worse in the 50s when I was a kid! Cooking sets were the girl toy. They made Star Trek for boys, but when all the girls ended up being the main demographic that watched it, they cancelled it. It was Lucy from I Love Lucy who brought it back, I remember you told me that!
Me: Yep!
M: I’m glad little girls have Arcee. And little boys. They’re robots, they don’t have gender!
Me: Exactly!

If this kind of interview/conversation excerpt type thing is interesting to anyone, we’re happy to keep doing it!
Give me questions or things to ask my mom, she’s happy to give you some “old lady perspective”, lmao. ❤️

What is happening with the BEATLES – RECORD MIRROR – (17 Aug. 1968)
Trying to say something objective about the Beatles right now is no easy task and it hasn’t been made any easier by George Harrison’s recent remarks knocking the press for knocking them. (George’s petulance is understandable enough, even justified, but it’s not as detached and cool as one might expect from a yoga student.)
So first, a denial: George has been quoted denouncing all journalists for “just sitting there, waiting to knock us down and see us do things wrong.” Well, George, not this journalist and not quite a few others I’ve talked to. I’m not interested in joining in any fashionable attacks, nor in writing any “defence” full of smarmy praise. Let’s simply try to consider some of the issues and arrive, with charity and a desire for truth, at a conclusion or two.
FILMS. During a tantalisingly brief conversation with George at a press showing of “Yellow Submarine” I asked about the fate in America of the Beatle-made “Magical Mystery Tour”. Had the poor critical reception in this country been echoed over there? Indeed, had the film been shown at all on U.S. network television as originally planned? George said he didn’t know and, to find out, called a business associate over. This man said it had been decided not to show it on television but to screen it instead at colleges and similar more-or-less private locations. I said this sounded as though the Beatles, and maybe TV moguls, had been daunted by the unfavourable British reaction. “Well, it wasn’t as bad as was made out,” answered George, “especially not if seen in colour.” Since I greatly enjoyed the film I was able to agree with sincerity. I hadn’t expected anything with a superb professional gloss, its amateurishness was completely forgivable since it provided a colourful exuberant visual accompaniment to a bunch of excellent songs. Why did those eagerly savage critics expect so much more? The answer, surely, is that those critics felt the time had come to cut the Beatles down. I particularly remember an unlovable attack by James Thomas in the “Daily Express” in which he confessed he’d long regarded the Beatles as over-rated.
VULNERABLE MOOD
Unfortunately for the Beatles, they were obviously in a vulnerable mood. Brian Epstein was dead, they were going it alone and they were expanding their range of activities, having a shot at things they were inexperienced in. You might well think they deserved encouragement and, at least, some praise for their courage in trying. But no, they got slammed for their pains.
As for “Yellow Submarine” – practically every critic admired it but the knocking stories have nevertheless emerged. Seems that there’s been a shortage of customers at some cinemas so the film has been taken off here and there. Somehow, this has been turned into blame for the Beatles. Is there, one wonders, something unusual about thin audiences in midsummer at Rank cinemas? Don’t make me laugh. Sure, there are those who won’t like it – I heard Daily Mirror pop pundit Don Short dismiss i[t] as a load of psychedelic rubbish (though Dick Richards wrote an admiring review in the Mirror) – but it is beyond dispute that the Beatles have nothing, precisely nothing, to be ashamed of in their somewhat tenuous connection with this very splendid picture.
THE APPLE BOUTIQUE. Can’t begin to see what the knockers are on about here. If the Beatles decide they’ve had enough of rag trade shopkeeping, and if they’re kind enough to give some of their stock away, that’s up to them and very generous of them, I’d say, wouldn’t you?
PUBLIC FIGURES
PRIVATE LIVES. They’re public figures and so their romantic/sexual involvements are naturally more likely to come under impertinent scrutiny from scandal-hunters than less publicised citizens. But IF (and it’s a very big if) the Beatles are inclined to lead wilder, less tidy lives than popular morality requires it should be remembered that this is nobody’s business but their own and their friends. What “decent, ordinary” citizen wouldn’t be tempted to live it up a bit, given the fame, the money, the opportunity?
I can only admire their interest in something as serious and spiritual as meditation though I do think they goofed in the way they allowed their apparent disillusionment with the Maharishi to lead them into a certain bitchyness. Fallible old fellow he may be but I’m sure a lot of what he taught them was well worthwhile and it would perhaps have been better if they’d kept their mouths shut and simply faded gracefully away from his influence. Daresay Paul was only trying to be honestly outspoken about their “mistake” but it seems to me that the Beatles were really condemning themselves for their previous starry-eyed naivety. If any of them now think transcendental (or any kind of) meditation is a waste of time they are, frankly, mistaken.
Then there’s the scary subject of the dreaded LSD. If they wanted to take it, that was up to them and any critics who didn’t know about LSD from personal experience are hardly in any position to comment. One afternoon a friend of mine who worked for ITN rang up and said I should catch the next ITN bulletin which contained a fascinating interview with McCartney. A reporter had gone along to the McCartney residence and tried to get him to admit that his admission of tripping was likely to be a bad influence on fans. Paul replied that he’d merely told the truth when he’d been asked if he’d taken LSD: would it have been more creditable to lie? In any case, Paul added, the responsibility for publicising this lay not with the Beatles but with people in the communications industries. “If you’ll shut up about it, I’ll shut up,” said Paul. Unarguably. In any case, and despite anything the moralists may wish to think, the greatness of the Sergeant Pepper album (among other achievements) was certainly in some measure aided by acid…so total condemnation of a dangerous drug is plain unfair and ignorant. Obviously, it CAN be inspiring, both in an artistic and a religious sense.
SIX CREATIVE YEARS
MUSIC. Time to lay it on the line. After six amazingly creative years the Beatles are still coming up with beguilling sounds and for this, above all, they deserve our thanks. Soon, let’s hope, a new Beatles LP will be out. It’s always possible that it will disappoint but I’ll bet it won’t be dull. Most likely it will be their best yet, which will be a terrible blow to the knockers. Let’s hope so.

An Unforgettable Evening
@aoi-hina another writing commission for the lovely lady! I hope you enjoy the fluff! (*≧▽≦)
The Devil’s influence in the mortal realm ceased to exist and Lucio’s presence was to never return. Order was restored in the city of Vesuvia and underwent a renaissance overnight. A rebirth was happening not just to the city but to the citizens too. Countess Nadia held full control over the state and with her new advisors by her side, she trusted many great things could be done to improve the lives of her people. Julian was a free man to do whatever he wished and continued his medical studies in comfort. For Asra and Jenna? Nothing had changed much since vanquishing the Devil. For the past few days, the two magicians were showered with gifts and given high positions within Nadia’s new court, but they refused.
“What would you both like? I can give you anything that is within my power.” Nadia spoke fondly as she stirred the spoon in her cup of tea.
Jenna grasped Asra’s hand as they stood in Nadia’s bedchambers. It was a rather odd place for discussion but the two knew that Nadia wanted to do something for their heroic deeds. Asra looked over at Jenna and smiled at her before looking at the Countess.
“We would be grateful for anything you have in mind Nadi.”
Nadia raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow, “Oh?” she pondered in thought for a moment before revealing a cheeky smile, “How about a party? I shall organise a marvellous party in your names. I shall bring out the finest food and drinks in your honour. I want to show my appreciation for everything you have done and I know others would love to as well.”
Jenna forced a smile. She didn’t hate parties but she was still recovering after defeating the Devil. All she wanted was peace and quiet. She felt Asra squeezed her hand gently, indicating that he understood what she was feeling. It seemed they both were feeling the same way.
“As much as that sounds lovely, Nadi,” Asra paused before continuing, “I think Jenna and I would like to have a smaller party. Something easy to organise and a relaxing atmosphere. What do you say?”
Nadia nodded her head and smiled, “Of course, that sounds like a lovely idea. Let's keep it intimate. The two of you must be exhausted after everything that has happened.” Taking a sip of her tea, Nadia stood up gracefully and left the teacup and saucer on the table.
“I shall not waste a moment and prepare a small party for you two this evening. Do not be late.” The countess walked by, not before giving a wink in their direction and left the chambers down the hallway. Jenna and Asra walked out last and closed the door carefully.
“What should we do in the meantime?” Jenna said as she fixed her glasses.
“How about we go back to our chambers and take it easy. You can take a nap in the meantime,” said Asra.
The thought of having a nap was indeed an excellent plan. Jenna felt that despite the peace she couldn’t fall asleep so easily. Jenna yawned. Asra noticed and chuckled as he guided her back to their bedchambers east of the palace.
“Let’s get you back to our shared room or else you will pass out in this hallway.” Jenna silently nodded and followed suit. The walk to their shared room was quiet and slow. The refreshing spring breeze was a welcoming sensation for Jenna as her breathing slowed to a calm a meditative pace. Asra and Jenna stopped by the grand white and gold doors. Pulling the door open, Asra let Jenna walk in first. The room had looked exactly the same as it did earlier this morning. She noticed the bed sheets and linens were all folded and clean, leaving the impression that no one was here in this room at all.
Asra whistled, “It looks brand new all over again. It surprises me how fast the maids are able to clean such a large space in such a short time.” Asra threw himself on a red velvet cushion beside the bed. “Perhaps they use magic as well.”
Jenna laughed and rolled her eyes, “Oh, they must have.No one can clean their room that well.” the female magician spoke with a hint of sarcasm. Between the two of them, Asra was not the one to clean things. It had always been Jenna who organised everything for him. Despite his many claims of his method of ‘cleaning’ was a more chaotic means. Chuckling at the memories, Jenna removed her glasses and placed them on the bedside table before throwing the plush covers over her frame. Reaching a hand out, Asra grabbed it immediately and began to rub her knuckles delicately.
“Sleep well, Jenna,” Asra whispered and kissed the back of her hand.
Jenna smiled and let sleep take her.
Jenna woke up later to the sound of birds and the evening sun illuminating the bedroom. Opening her heavy eyelids she was greeted by a white tuff of hair by her face. Looking up she saw Asra smiling down at her with Faust on his shoulder. The sunlight created a halo around Asra’s head making him more handsome than ever. Asra spoke before Jenna could string a sentence together.
“It is almost time, Jenna. You have been sleeping all day. How do you feel?” Asra leaned on the palm of his hand as he watched Jenna sit up and stretched her arms high above her head.
“I feel much better. A bit tired from oversleeping, but definitely feeling more energetic than earlier.”
Asra sighed in relief, “Thank goodness. I am happy to hear that.” He picked up Jenna’s glasses and handed them to her. Jenna nodded in thanks and threw them on. Pushing her legs off the edge of the bed she stood up. Asra pulled himself up from his crouching position and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“We were instructed by Nadia to through on outfit she had prepared for each of us and come down to the main lounge room when we are ready.”
“Then we should get ready swiftly. I don’t want to keep Countess Nadia and her guests waiting.”
“Our guests. We can leave when I say so.”
“When you say so?” Jenna asked curiously. What on earth did Asra have in mind? She felt Asra’s breath close to the nape of her neck and kiss the skin delicately. A shiver ran up her spine as her hands gripped his arms that were currently around her waist. As the kisses travelled up her neck to the side of her ear, Jenna turned her head so Asra couldn’t see how red her face was.
“Are you embarrassed? It’s just the two of us here.” Asra teased. His soft voice right against Jenna’s ear.
“Come on, Asra. We must get ready now.” Jenna spoke nervously. She couldn’t calm down the butterflies in her stomach until she pulled away and grabbed the dress that laid out for her. It was a high-low dress with a rich cobalt blue hue reminded her of the ocean. Adorning the dress was silver chains that fell delicately over the thick straps of the dress. Without looking back, Jenna walked behind the covers and swiftly got changed before Asra had any other ideas. Just as she came out in her fine dress, Asra was already dressed and ready in a tunic that followed the same blue and silver theme. Of course, Nadia had planned out couple outfits. She thought in a deadpan tone. The thought didn’t stop her from admiring her partner. Asra looked like royalty before her. The rich and bright colours in contrast to his white hair was a captivating look.
“You look so beautiful, Jenna.” Asra reached out a hand a rubbed her cheek fondly. Jenna leaned in the warm touch and smiled.
“Shall we get going?” She said.
       “Let’s be on our way.”
With that, the two walked together hand in hand to the party. The sounds of music playing indicated that they were close. As Jenna and Asra arrived by the lounge area, the doors were opened to them to reveal a small get together of familiar faces. Julian, Portia, Mazelinka, and even Muriel who stood far, far away from everyone else. The Countess turned around upon their arrival and graciously welcomed them.
“Welcome my guests of honour. As a reward for all the hard work you have done not for just me but for all the people of Vesuvia, I encourage you to relax, enjoy the music and eat to your heart's content.”
The two magicians were surrounded by the company of friends as they all congratulated them on a job well done.
“We wouldn’t have been able to stop Lucio of the Devil without everyone’s help. I must be thanking you.” Asra said. Everyone laughed and filled their plates with the most delicious food they could stack and drank merrily. The evening was filled with joy, beautiful music and great company. Jenna sat with Portia and Mazelinka and told embarrassing stories of Asra. Mazelinka had many embarrassing and enduring tales of Julian during his youth that made the three of them burst into laughter. For the first time in a while, Jenna felt more connected to her surroundings more than ever. With part of her memories missing, it always frustrated her that such an important time of her life was gone. Upon rediscovering herself once more, she felt like she could finally move on and create exciting memories with the life she thankfully had. Jenna looked across the room to see Julian taking another swig of his beer and sang with the tunes of the music. Asra had been standing on the other side of the room speaking with Muriel one on one. It seemed like a serious conversation bet the two of them until she noticed Asra’s eyes shifting in her direction and giving a suggestive wink. A chuckle escaped her lips just when Nadia had seated herself right beside Jenna. Nadia’s long delicate fingers brushed through a strand of Jenna’s hair and offered her some champagne.
“Here, take this and relax. You deserve it.” Nadia said fondly.
“Thank you, Nadi.” Jenna took the glass, clinking it against Nadia’s she took a sip. It left a pleasant sensation in her mouth. The fruity taste waking her up after a long sleepy day. She hadn’t noticed Asra approaching her, gesturing her to come with him.
“Go to Asra. I will keep an eye on the party here.”
“Are you sure?” said Jenna. She didn’t want to leave the party so soon but noticed that everyone was having a grand time themselves. Quietly thanking the Countess, Jenna stood up and followed Asra, taking his hand in hers and following him to the gardens below.
The setting sun illuminated the rich floral’s in what looked like liquid gold to her. The gardens looked more beautiful and enchanting now than it did at night somehow. As she admired the new environment, Asra pulled her hand forwards until they were deep in the gardens and away from the noise of the party. All that could be heard was the faint sound of music playing. Jenna’s heart raced when Asra turned to her and bowed.
“May I have this dance, beautiful lady?” Asra spoke gently. His one hand over his heart and the other still gripping her hand like it was the most delicate thing.
She nodded and smiled, “Of course.”
Asra pulled Jenna close until their faces were inches apart. She was captivated by his violet eyes, the depth of them staring right into her very soul. The female magician barely noticed herself swaying softly to the tunes of the music in the distance. Asra’s hands rested on the lower back of her waist and pulled her closer. It was moments like these where the two felt like they couldn’t part from one another. The desire to be as close as possible was strong and evident in their twirling movements. Jenna wasn’t particularly a professional dancer but dancing with Asra didn’t feel like a hassle or put conscious effort in. She allowed herself to relax and follow her intuition to match his movements. Every step she made, Asra followed. Soon the garden became their very own dance floor as Asra and Jenna spun in each other's embrace, never breaking eye contact. When they slowly came to a stop, they were breathing heavily from the constant dancing.
“You are a marvellous dancer, Jenna. I couldn’t take my eyes off of you.” Asra lifted her palm and kissed it. If her face wasn’t already red from the dancing, surely it would be now from his words alone.
“It’s impossible to take my eyes off of you when you are looking like that.” Jenna teased.
       “Like what?”
“Oh, you know what I mean.” Jenna blushed. As much as she enjoyed teasing Asra she was never prepared for what he was going to do next. Asra stepped closer to her and grinned.
“I’m not sure I know what you mean.”
Jenna shared a grin of her own, “I guess I have to show you.” Her hands reached for Asra’s face and moved in for a kiss. It was sweet and short. Her eyes fluttered shut as the rising nervousness in her stomach dissipated. The moment the two parted ways, she noticed Asra’s eyes darken with a wave of desire for her. Without hesitation, Jenna was pulled to Asra’s awaiting lips. The two were in their very own heated dance. Asra’s arms clung to Jenna’s body as if she was going to slip away at any moment. As the two shared a passionate kiss, they had to part ways for oxygen.
“If only I didn’t need oxygen. I could kiss you forever.” Asra said between breaths.
“Curse the universe for needing oxygen.”  Jeanna joked. The two magicians chuckled as they leaned there foreheads against one another.
“We have all the time in the world to catch up you know, Asra.” The bold statement surprised Jenna but in her heart, it was the truth. They did have all the time in the world and nothing or no one was going to stop them.
“You’re right, we do. I cannot wait for what our future has in store for us.” Asra kissed her forehead, “I love you, Jenna. I always have, always will.” His declaration of love moved her to the point of tears. Never did she believe she could feel this happy with someone else. Finally, after so many trials and overcoming obstacles, Jenna had found what she was looking for all along. Asra. Her one true love.

August 11, 2018. Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
In the deepest hidden recesses of the internet, on a vague Wikipedia page about “brewing in New Hampshire“, I learned that there is one beer that stands above all others. It is a Russian imperial stout lovingly handcrafted by an unusually tall hill dwarf, undoubtedly from an ancient recipe that his clan brought from under the mountain untold ages ago.
Wikipedia claims it is “the best beer in America” and also “the most sought-after beer in America”. It’s called Kate the Great, and legend has it that it can only be obtained by locating this master brewer on his home turf, the Portsmouth Brewery, and praying to whatever gods you keep that the stars have aligned and it’s in season.
It was drizzling on Mystery Hill, but it hadn’t quite started to monsoon in Portsmouth yet. Thunderclouds loomed in the sky like hanged men, shrouding the little downtown in portentous darkness. Everyone we encountered hated us. This isn’t altogether foreign to me, I’ve chosen the Bastard moniker for a reason, but the Girl tends toward amicability and we hadn’t done anything yet.
In The Shadow Over Innsmouth, an archaeologist crossing New England in search of genealogical information finds a foggy, derelict port town. He thinks it might be interesting to check out, so he books a room and pokes around. The locals seem to share a common deformity, a scaling skin disease, puffing around the face and eyes, and unusual hydrocephaly. They spurn him outright. We’re talking like, Amish shunning. The inhabitants call him an outsider and refuse to sell him anything. They bar most public places against him, and retreat into their homes if they see him on the street. As the novella goes on, he discovers that the inhabitants of Innsmouth have been interbreeding with a race of cannibal fish-people, the Deep Ones, who conduct grisly rites in worship of a bloodthirsty aquatic god called Dagon.
I thought the parallels were cute at first, but as our time in Portsmouth wore on, they got more distressing. We’d driven across New Hampshire into an HD remaster of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.
Tumblr media
The Portsmouth Brewery was wall-to-wall with people, easily the most active building in the town. The hostess sneered that the wait for a table would be 20 minutes. The Girl said that would be fine, and asked if we could get a drink while we wait.
“Yeah, I guess.”
We dodged around the teeming masses of people and, for some reason, all their infant children, to get to the bar. When did the bringing babies into bars phenomenon start? And why? Babies don’t go in bars. Babies go in, I don’t know, parks. McDonald’s Playplace.
Eventually, the girl tending came over to us.
“Hey, we’re here treasure hunting,” I said, trying for charming. “Legend has it this is our best shot at getting Kate the Great. Do you have that right now?”
She scoffed. “We’ll never serve THAT beer again.”
I exchanged a glance with the Girl.
“Is this like, a sensitive subject?”
“No,” she said, providing the exposition she really should have led with, “It’s just, the brewer just quit working here, it was this whole big thing, so we don’t have Kate the Great anymore.”
“Do you know where he went?”
“He opened his own brewery, Tributary. It’s in Maine. But here, you can see our draft list.”
This was technically true. It was in Maine, across a bridge, an 8 minute drive from our present location. It was also technically true that we could see the draft list. It consisted entirely of IPAs, which would have been clutch if I’d ever liked one.
“Can we have a minute to think about it?” the Girl asked. The bartender nodded and drifted off. We escaped to the place next door, which had a similar draft list, substituting one of the IPAs with Budweiser which it listed as a “light lager”.
“I can’t Yelp,” the Girl said. “This is impossible. Two for two. You do it. I’m losing hope.”
dolphins have had it good for TOO LONG
A few blocks away was a brewery called Earth Eagle, which specialized in a hopless proto-beer called “gruit”. It’s a Danish word, and should be pronounced “gryoo-IT”, but I pronounce it groot and will continue to do so until dead.
We made our way past the cute little technicolor New England cottages to Earth Eagle. Random assignment from day two of any outdoor music festival would give you the clientele. It was also crowded, but not as bad as the Portsmouth Brewery.
“Could we sit outside?” the Girl asked. The waitress glared at us balefully.
“You can if you want,” she said. “But it’s gonna rain.”
“If it starts to get bad, we’ll move back in,” the Girl said.
“You should probably just sit inside.”
The Girl was ready to fight her on this. She was hangry. I’m always hangry, and so I’ve developed a tolerance. I steered her aside.
“Not worth it,” I said. “If we sit outside, no one’s going to come take our order.”
It looked like no one was going to anyway. After a while, one of the Deep Ones waddled over, and we ordered gruit. It tasted like beer-flavored juice. They also played the entirety of Rancid’s “And Out Come the Wolves”. I found that suspicious. Like they were humoring me, and when I left they’d return to their backward recordings of whale song and those high-pitched meditation bowls.
The scene was about to turn. I could hear them sharpening their knives. During the next ponderous waitress’ circuit, we waylaid, paid, and am-scrayed.
“I’m so hungry,” the Girl said. “This is where we die.”
“Very possible. I’ll bet they have a sacrificial table here, too.”
“Bastard, we need to find something,” she said. “I’ll go back in there and eat tofu puffs if I have to.”
“Don’t talk like that,” I said. “Listen. We’ll go back to the pizza place. We don’t need to drink there. We’ll just get a pizza. It’s impossible to ruin pizza.”
She was hesitant, but I kept saying, “Huh? Piiizza?”, and that eventually won her over. That’s a pro strat for you, fellas. No charge. Just remember where you learned it.
They were kinder at the pizza place, probably because it was in a basement full of aquariums, and being below sea level and surrounded by their brethren soothed the agitated merfolk. They had a giant neon sign for RED HOOK, which I presumed to be of “The Horror At” fame, and would have won me a prize had I remembered my Mythos bingo card.
We asked the first pleasant waitress in New Hampshire for garlic and it baffled her.
“Garlic? Like, whole garlic?”
“No, like, powder,” the Girl said. “Or salt, if that’s all you have.”
“We… might have some in the kitchen.”
“That’s only a thing where we’re from,” I told her. “When I went west, none of the pizza places had garlic. A lot of ’em didn’t even have oregano.”
The Girl looked as though she might cry. “But… but why?”
“Forgive them. They know not what they do.”
We were given this.
Tumblr media
garçon! a ration of garlic powder, s’il vous plait, and your finest sprinkling fork
We walked back out into the building tempest. The fishfolk were growing stronger as it became soggier. It was like you could hear the Jaws theme playing in the distance.
“We gotta look at the whale wall,” I said. “That’s like the only other attraction. Then we get the hell out of here.”
We looked at the whale wall. It was both.
Then, we scurried back to the car.
mood
Unfortunately, the Deep Ones were lying in wait for us. A supply truck was sitting in the middle of the street, right next to my car, parking us and only us in. I couldn’t get around it, and there wasn’t enough sidewalk for any real desperate escape maneuvers. I waited, crouched in the driver’s seat with a fileting knife clutched to my chest. The Girl sat shotgun, slowly pumping up a super soaker full of tartar sauce.
Some other lost tourist/genealogist had parked in front of us, and finally returned to her car. She got the hell out of my way and we made our daring escape.
We crossed the bridge into Maine. It immediately stopped raining. Whatever ancient cult magic held sway in Portsmouth didn’t extend beyond its borders.
Tributary Brewing Company even had a parking lot for free! It was busy, as one would expect for the chosen brewery of the creator of America’s alleged best beer. We sat on the bench along the wall and had a flight and took in the ambiance, most of which consisted of impressionist paintings of this dude’s face.

Mott the Lesser is what he renamed Kate the Great, presumably in order to avoid legal disputes with Portsmouth Brewing. It wasn’t in season, but that was all right. Ask Tennyson. It was never about the Grail. The quest is all.
The man himself sat at a table, eating his lunch and grinning the grin of a man presently living his dreams. He was surrounded by a squadron of adoring Dads. I will admit the dude had an aura, and his biere de miel and porter were magnificent. The porter tasted like smoked joy.
We went next door to a tasteful mermaid-themed restaurant with walls colored in equally tasteful mermaid tiddy art. In retrospect, I should have photographed that, instead of whatever the hell it was we ate. (I know mine was scallops, and I know they were excellent).

Our next stop, continuing with the supernatural theme along New England’s eldritch ley lines, would lead us to the most haunted restaurant in America.
But that’s a spooky campfire story for another day.
Love,
The Bastard

Numerology: Calculating Your Life Lesson Number
Tumblr media
Numerology Basics
Each one of us has four personal numbers that carry a specific vibration. They are the Life Lesson Number, the Soul Number, the Outer Personality Number, and the Path of Destiny Number. In this post, we’ll be focusing on the Life Lesson number.
The Life Lesson Number represents lessons one must learn in this lifetime and is most significant to career choices. It is derived from your full birthdate.
Though this post will be focused on calculating one’s number using the numbers in your birthday, I’m including information on how to calculate the numeric vibration of letters as well, because it’s intrinsically related.
To work with the value of letters beyond “I”, which is 9, we reduce the value to a single digit. For example, “O” is 15, so we reduce the number by adding the first digit to the second: 1+5=6. The number 15 is then written as 15/6. The letter “T” is 20. We reduce the 20 by adding the first digit to the second: 2+0=2. The number 20 is then written as 20/2.
Number Values of the Alphabet
A   1       J   10/1       S   19/1 B   2       K   11/2       T   20/2 C   3       L   12/3       U   21/3 D   4       M   13/4      V   22/4 E   5       N   14/5      W   23/5 F   6       O   15/6       X   24/6 G   7       P   16/7       Y   25/7 H   8       Q   17/8       Z   26/8 I    9        R   18/9
We can reduce any word to a numeric vibration by using the above table. Before we move on to calculating one’s Life Lesson number, lets experiment with a few words:
3  +  9  +  6  +  5  =  23/5 C     R      O     W
We reduce 23 by adding 2+3=5, which is written 23/5
5  +  9  +  2  +  3  +  8  =  21/3    W     I       T      C     H
We reduce 21 by adding 2+1=3, which is written 21/3
3  +  9  +  7  +  8  +  2  =  29/11 L      I       G     H      T
We reduce 29 by adding 2+9=11, which is written 29/11
There are four double digits which generally are not reduced. These are referred to as master numbers. Master numbers offer more opportunity for expression, yet demand more effort from the person or thing in question. The master numbers are 11, 22, 33, and 44. Whenever you arrive at one of these numbers in your calculations; retain the master value.
Because the word “light” vibrates to master number 11, it’s written as 29/11 instead of 29/2, which would be the case if reduced entirely. The number 2 is still acknowledged as the base number as the word will fluctuate between the vibrations of 2 and 11.
An individual will fluctuate between any master number and its base digit because the vibration of the master number is too intense to live under continuously. Living under the vibration of one’s base number offers respite while preparing to work with the master number vibration again.
Calculating Your Life Lesson Number
To calculate your Life Lesson Number, add all the digits of your birthdate together and reduce the sum. Here is an example of how someone with the birthdate of 24 October 1948 would calculate their Life Lesson Number:
10 + 24 + 1948 10 + 24 + 22 (1 + 9 + 4 + 8) 10 + 24 + 22 = 56/11
Since the reduced sum of their birthday is a master number, the sum is not reduced further.
Now that you know how to calculate your Life Lesson Number, read on to see the description of each numeric vibration. All number descriptions come directly from Numerology and The Divine Triangle (1979) by Faith and Dusty Bunker, the reference material for this post.
