literally always thinking about the chantry explosion changing kirkwall's coastline i get why people don't like it but i think it owns. hightown is built on the top of cliffs that were mined to the point of structural instability by tevinter slaves, mining tunnels abandoned until ferelden refugees were forced to take shelter there because they had also been abandoned by kirkwall. kirkwall's past and present sins are directly beneath their feet and the chantry and the nobility continue to ignore it. its admittedly a deeply on the nose geographical metaphor for hightown to not only look over lowtown but exist on top of darktown, but the concept of the cliffs of hightown coming crumbling down because the site of kirkwall's past atrocities built the foundation for the seat of power of their present atrocities? the fact that the man who destroyed hightown had lived under their feet for 7 years? that rocks! it's sexy it's cathartic it's delicious i just wish we had gotten a better sense of it in the game and not just from some dev saying shit

I've been meaning to get to your tags @creamkirin but I got distracted trying to make a new map, because for real the other one is a scribbled mess.
For context here's what this is about.
My rambling tags in a "ridiculous details in worldbuilding" post reblog ⬆️ followed by a response ⬇️
Right so basically there's eight regions including the capitol. The seven other ones are fiefdoms belonging to the Court of Lords. You've got the main four from Majora's Mask canon - Woodfall, Snowhead, Great Bay, Ikana. (The canon overall region of Ikana Canyon has been changed to Hareti in order to avoid confusion between the region and the Kingdom.)
I added four other in-between regions. Cragmaw, Icespine, Tempore, and Termei (this is basically Termina Field expanded).
This map is not final in terms of like, aesthetic details missing, so bear with me here
Anyways where was I going with this
Ah right yes the RTS
So Woodfall has control over two, count em, two rivers. I've obscured it a bit with the regional border scribbles but yeah.
Tempore and Termei share access to the parent river, the Ikana River, between its source and its split
But after that, the two branching rivers with Bay access are Woodfall's. The branches are called the Giyo River (North) and the Odal River (East)
If you're near these regions and you need waterway access to say Cragmaw or Great Bay, you're still going to need some kind of agreement/payment with Woodfall for use of the Giyo or Odal.
However, let's say you were a Demon Lord and you went, "hey, psst, hey other Lords, wouldn't it be grand if we had those rivers instead and could control access? Think of the wealth to be gained!" and you went on a very long campaign to systematically annex pieces from Woodfall using increasingly-underhanded methods. And it's not like the current Demon King suspects anything amiss because he's busy doing demon cocaine erecting statues of himself and executing rabble-rousers in bouts of paranoid delusion over weakening citizen loyalty.
That would probably result in a generations-long feud between noble houses, I'm sure. The world's most toxic work environment up in that Court.

I'm this close to writing a fic where a few weeks post-confession, Hero has a dream where he gets the option to stab Basil in order for Mari to have never died, only for his knife to stab not this fictional dream version of Basil, but the real twelve-year-old one, whom he then slowly watches die as he's unable to save him from the gash in his stomach.
To his horror, as he wakes up four years after the murder with no memory of what happened afterwards, he learns that he covered up the murder, and he has no idea how or why he did it.
