several hours of actual building and at least an hour of troubleshooting to fix the geometry nodes that were aligned on the wrong world space axis later we have wing. it does not look the way i want it to but it's fucking functional and fellas? that sure is good enough for tonight

i downloaded the sample rig the tutorial guy provided bc i couldn't for the life of me figure out how the bones were constrained to behave in a particular way and there were small mech bones inside the rig that held the constraints and i didn't see them and spent ages trying out shit that didn't work this is going so well

yeah like i don't mind movie spin-offs they can be fun but i prefer them as isolated character exploration experiences or just entirely isolated things for fun right, and im worried that since apparently at least someone working on the movies wants them to be the next marvel or some shit (idk i read a headline about it and heard it mentioned once or twice don't quote me on this at all) things will end up as this huge messy "cinematic universe" where nothing can or is allowed to exist in isolation, everything is canon and ties into each other, and if you want to understand anything you have to start from the beginning and Consume(TM). what if there will come a time when your knowledge of the games simply isn't enough to catch you up to speed anymore? the thought sickens me

and yeah humans. i understand they gotta have some because it's live-action and im not opposed to live-action by any means, and that the setting and sonic's backstory and all require more human presence, it's just that. you're making movies about furry games. the more humans there are the more they take away space from the furries i want to look at and see explored in greater detail. humans in the games are typically NPCs or antagonists with just a handful of exceptions and i'd prefer if things were kept that way. the found family thing is cute sure but it forces more and more humans to the foreground which is not really the point in sonic imo

one problem: i forgot that to make an oc creator i need to come up with things like quill designs. and hair designs. ough

not to get way too into something massive but. i am thinking of the logistics of a oc template for frontiers. it'd be more focused on customization for things like ears and hairstyles and quills etc since clothing would get complicated fast, and i could include like a handful of different species that i can make work with sonic's mouth mesh for full game compatibility, so no birds or fellas with remarkably different muzzles unfortunately. i also want to give some options for eye shapes like frontiers does but i can already guarantee i won't go wild with those since that might require me to model multiple base heads, and since im not sure how i'll go about connecting quills ears etc to those just yet it could lead to a lot of unnecessary repetition.

anyway rn im thinking of having options for hedgehogs, wolves/foxes, dogs, cats, and bunnies. those are all in forces already and i figured that's fine, people might already have ocs from those games so i guess "porting" them over with a template could be neat. final amount of variety could be lower though depending on how many options i wanna give to each species, i'd rather have quality over quantity y'know. also exposed hands probably won't be a thing so i don't have to connect the meshes to the arms and keep things simple and optimized for the game

im gonna return to these turnarounds im planning and see how far i can take this idea

the ears seem a bit too big to me (unbelievable i know) so i might need to adjust those, which kind of sucks because the geometry in them is so annoying. maybe just making them thinner could work? idk but we have a muzzle and eyes now and i shortened the lowest quills a bit and i think it makes them work better overall

hell of a shower thought but what if i made a blender file that effectively works as an OC creator for frontiers. maybe it'd be something as rudimentary as "here's a bunch of meshes for you to mix and match by hiding and deleting the stuff you don't want" bc idk if i have the skills to make it fancier and i could pack in some textures you can recolor as you please? and everything's already weight painted to the frontiers skeleton so all you'd have to do is follow an import tutorial and boom OC in frontiers. idk or is that just way too niche
