I love that SNW hyposprays can be delivered
to the shoulder (like in TOS)
Tumblr media
or to the neck (like in TNG).
Tumblr media
Therefore implying possible health care provider choice for hypospray placement and methodology … which makes this even funnier:

Concept: Bones with a hypospray full of NyQuil that he calls his NyPo
Note: Please do not actively inject anyone with NyQuil.
Note 2: The NyPo is for use on Jim Kirk only, not Nyota Uhura, despite its name. Use of the NyPo on Nyota Uhura will lead to the user's immediate death.

A Glimpse to the Past || Closed starter for @starfleetsxvulcan
"Cadet Spock. May I have a word please?" The advanced xenobotany professor motioned to the student, who assisted her with her intro classes as her aid, to stay behind as class was dismissed.
"I was wondering if you can spare some time to assist me with one of your classmates. They are out on a medical leave but I did not get the chance to provide them with the datachips distributed today in class before their leave began and need them delivered, but I have meetings immediately after classes end today." The professor requested him as she offers the small case of the chips used for the assignment for the class.
"It is also why I did not assign you a class partner for the assignment. While I am sure you'll still work alone if you want, but if you're willing, you could also partner with them so they will not have to work alone if not wanted."

watching tng and seaquest at the same time is interesting bc it's so obviously inspired by it that every change is interesting and worth exploring to me. here's one I haven't mentioned. watching trek with my mom we've developed a joke about the way some characters aren't allowed to speak. they work with main characters, but can only nod.and take a padd from them and then walk offscreen. in seaquest these scenes are FULL of sound. if there's background characters then there's always background conversation. you always hear announcements being made that have no bearing on the story. someone you've never seen before and will never see again will walk onscreen and have an easy and friendly conversation with a main character because obviously he's acquainted with the other guy on his shift. it's just people in a huge ship each doing their own small part to move it and I get a better sense of that in sq thanks to this very small detail.

computer, delete Paris (Projections, s2 e3)
This review will be a short one, simply because this episode is such a hoot! If you're in the mood for Star Trek and wish to be persuaded that early season Voyager has something to offer you, put on "Projections." You will have a good time.
This episode is a holodeck episode and a reality-bending romp in one. It plays around what we would now call simulation theory, leaning into all the trippiness that entails. The story beats are familiar, but work because they're grounded in character. For the Doctor, metaphysical questions hit differently. After all, if you're a simulated person, what does "reality" mean? How do you choose between solipsism and the external world?
Here, the weirdness is played for laughs, while still giving the Doctor his due. After all, existential questions are pretty funny at their root. To quote the sages, "How strange it is to be anything at all."
This feels like a script that trusts the actors, from Barclay's delightful guest role (slightly manic, with an edge of incoherence) to the Voyager crew's slightly stagey presence (Janeway's battle hair is epic) to the Doctor's amazing physical comedy. The food fight in the mess hall is genuinely my favorite scene in the show thus far. I seem unable to locate a still image of the Doctor's somersaulting slither beneath a table, which just goes to show that if this is all a simulation, God the Scientist is sleeping on the job.

My only complaint is that I did not need the fictional Kes romance here, even if the real Kes is not at all skeeved and finds it hilarious. The writers believe they can get away with a certain amount of this nonsense because "she's an alien!" but she is such a young woman and no amount of on-screen gravitas is going to make us forget that.
Occasionally this show really gets it. 4.5/5 dented Talaxian saute pans.

yeah, i'm really happy to see Chapel appearing to be involved in a lot of storylines too. interesting stuff awaits her for sure.
i was wondering why i love Christine so much, and i think it's because she represents everything that made me fall in love with Star Trek characters - curious, open-minded, adventurous, ambitious, humorous, flirty, queer, idealistic but flawed, genius but relatable, down bad for Mr. Spock.
and we know that Chapel becomes not only a doctor, but also a commander in the future, and i think as much as SNW portrays Chapel as inexperienced, it also does a good job making it believable that yes, one day this person is going to grow into an accomplished leader. which is so relieving, especially after Picard that has women just be mothers...
Your love for Christine Chapel is absolutely beautiful, anon, and I enjoy every second of it. 💕
I think you’re right that SNW sensibly shows Christine on a trajectory to the person she will become. She has this line in TOS, something like, “I’m a nurse first and a member of this crew second.” I love that duality about her (which I also think we see in TNG’s Beverly Crusher) — being of the crew but also choosing to exist in a separate place, bound by separate rules. The fact that Christine subdues an enemy by hypospray in both SNW and TOS, to me, is so perfect to showcase that duality. She’ll fight — and win … in her own damn way, thank you very much.
We stan a queen.

Star Trek TOS really did predict (or at least influence) the future. CDs, flip phones, now hyposprays...

Welcome Party
|| Closed starter for @starfleetsxvulcan ||
"Lieutenant Knight reporting for service, Commander Spock."
The Lieutenant was in proper salute after they stabilized and stepped off the transporter pad, their uniform fully smoothed out and all appropriate piping newly adored on their wrists as they saluted.
"I am grateful to be offered a position on the ship, Commander. I hope to do it proud."
It was known that Commander Spock was second in command on the Enterprise, but it was one thing knowing, and another entirely seeing the classmate turned instructor turned senior officer again.
They kept a tight hold on their shields, both as a sign of respect for those around him, but also as a sense of comfort, keeping the control matching to the firm control over their body as they stood in proper formation waiting to either be set to ease or released to make their way to his quarters and stations.
