One of my favorite things, genuinely, is how often ppl make McCoy shorter? He's either the exact same height as Kirk (if you go by Shatner's "official" height), or he's slightly taller than Kirk (if you see any scene where their actual height is accurately seen lmao), BUT he slouches so much and gives off such short king energy that half of fandom was like? McCoy? He's tiny!!!!
like hey sorry but we shrunk your boyfriend. yeah sorry he's baby now. he's like 6 inches shorter than both of you. he's still radiating so much feral energy that you probably won't even notice. yeah he's standing on the table so he looks taller. he's probably going to be even angrier now. on the plus side you can probably carry him easier, but also he will definitely try to bite you. sorry.

“For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky” is still, after many decades, one of the very best titles I have ever seen in my life.

"Do you still measure time in minutes?" "We can convert to it." James T. Kirk I heard Spock tell you your arrival time in minutes two weeks ago and you know it, now please, stop fucking with 16th American president Abraham Lincoln, that's no way to treat a guest to your starship

Something a little unusual (and delightful!) in the "Meanwhile, on Twitter..." dep't...
A shout-out to something of "mine" that appears in the final episode of Star Trek: Picard—the Denebian-crewed Federation starship I wrote into the ST:TOS novel My Enemy, My Ally. (And a lot of the people in the comments seem pleased, which is always nice!)
Thanks again to @DaveBlass at ST:Picard for offering me this charming chance to be a little bit involved with something I've enjoyed so much. :)
(ETA on the air-quotes on “mine”— All Star Trek novels are written as “works for hire”; the writer gets paid for their work, but the copyright belongs to CBS/Viacom. I invented Inaieu, and Captain Rihaul, and her crew of very large Denebians [and yeah, those bowl chairs, because what else do you intelligently sit a giant kinda-slug-butted person in?]; but I don’t own them. Trek does. So “mine” is a procedural ambivalence.) 😏

Incels: women only want super buff guys with six packs who are over six feet who could pick them up with one hand
Women: the ideal man is a middle-aged doctor with a waist I could wrap both hands around, blue eyes I could drown in, the worst posture you've ever seen on a human being, a grin that could cure me of any ailment, and a temperament that would make him kiss and berate me in equal measure

(a digital drawing titled “TOS uniform redesign”. kirk and spock are shown in redesigned uniforms, the chief changes in which are: longer black sections on the sleeves, with rank marks on the sleeves; a shortened version of the ship name (here, ENT) on the back of the uniform like a sports jersey; the name and rank on the front of the uniform like scrubs; and a ribbed section on the top/shoulders similar to the uniforms in DS9. also illustrated are scrubs, a jacket, a scant in the style of a skort, sportswear, a novelty hat, and complementary pyjamas.)

Don't think I ever posted about this before, but recently uncovered this artist sketch that my father had purchased back in the day. It's now hanging on the wall behind my desk 🥰

A Star Trek post you commented on, about physically writing fanfictions, is making the rounds, and it's funny to me because I did actually pick up Spock's World the other day from a second hand store specifically because I saw your name and thought to myself "I trust a woman with Spock." So, you know, it was funny to get confirmed that you were the exact sort of fangirl turned professional author I'd imagined. Thanks for making such great books! Have a good week.
Well, thanks! (And apologies for the delay in getting back to you about this.) But it's kind of you to let me know.
Re the fangirling: I was fourteen when ST:TOS premiered, and only some parts of the Marianas Trench can compare to the depth of the crush on Spock that I immediately developed. :) ...But over time (and during the commission of a lot of fanfic) eventually that settled into a more rounded appreciation of both the character and the actor.
Over time I stepped away from that writing and started concentrating more on the groundwork for my own universes. But that was also the time I more or less stumbled into organized Star Trek fandom, and the shocked realization that I had a tribe. (And that a lot of them were in agreement with me as regarded a continuing fascination with Spock.) It's a safe bet that my continued interaction with people in Trek fandom was a strong influence on the formation of the opinion, all through my twenties, that Trek and its characters were worth staying engaged with.
And as it turns out, that was a real help when, in my early thirties, I suddenly found myself in a position where I could actually get to pitch a Star Trek novel. And then another one. And another... :) It was exhilarating, if a bit freaky. But the overall effect was that, when Pocket Books said "We want to do our first hardcover... what would you like to write?" I was ready to say "I think it's time we got serious about Spock...", and to be able to trust myself not to just write a hundred and twenty thousand words of gush.
Anyway, I hope you liked Spock's World, and found your trust vindicated. It was a lot of fun to write, and it was a pleasure to get (literarily) close to an old friend. :)
