I suppose, C*rol of Bells is Christian, but only lyrics, written by Peter J. Wilhousky.

But in reality, Shchedryk is an ancient pre Christian folk song, the echo of times when new year was in spring, and the music was written down by ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych.

Here is a very beautiful site about history of it, and how it became a part of American culture, and you can hear it in ukrainian there, as it should be.

I didn't say that it never happened, though I don't think Marianne marrying Brandon at 19 (or Catherine Morland marrying Henry Tilney at 18) is equivalent to Lydia's marriage.

The person who responded to me downplayed one of my original points—that Wickham is a nearly 30-year-old creep who preys on young girls and ultimately marries one—by insisting that all men in Austen's time were predators marrying teenage girls. And that is simply not true. Normalized or not, real women of the time typically did not marry in their teenage years. Mrs Bennet's delight at Lydia marrying at only sixteen is a sign of how absurd and out of touch with reality she is, not a normal thing to say or think.

Hasi, my beloved friend, needs a lifeline.

For a little over two years, I’ve only been able to watch from half a world away as my friend is crushed without reprieve. I’ve watched her living situation become hostile as her mental and physical health deteriorated. I’ve watched her withdraw for weeks at a time as she tried to put every last scrap of her energy toward basic survival.

I’m watching her now as she’s giving up hope. As she’s deciding that the only solution to her struggle is a permanent one. I’m watching her make preparations for it.

And now I’m asking for help, because I don’t want to lose my friend.

Hasini (35) lives in Sri Lanka. She has struggled with mental illness for 15 years, and with chronic physical illness for 10 years. Even though she’s been passionate about learning from a young age and is a talented writer and debator, she fell ill during her second year of her dream program in anthropology and was forced to drop out. She later became beridden with ulcerative colitis immediately after her marriage, and was diagnosed only 7 years later (at age 31). Because of the lack of adequate care, treatment resources, and family support, she was only able to get diagnoses for Complex PTSD and bipolar at age 29 and ADHD at 32.

Her dogs had been her comfort during her years of isolation and illness, but when her marriage disintegrated in 2020, she had to leave them behing and return to her surviving parent and intellectually disabled brother. Her mother is now a pensioner, and won’t be able to support them much longer.

I cannot emphasize enough how toxic this situation is for her. She has developed arthritis and worsening colitis flares due to the stress of her divorce and the retraumatizing environment of her family. This was made exponentially worse when the 2022 Sri Lankan Economic Crisis plunged her country into chaos. With the cost of living skyrocketing, the prices of her medications have more than doubled. She has had to stop therapy and choose which of her doctors to visit. Government hospitals are free, but her mobility has been further restricted by a back injury and transport costs are prohibitive. Most of her friends don’t live in the same country.

Although she has experienced suicidality before, she has found lifelines in rescuing animals, learning and blogging about social justice, and cultivating friends across different continents. Before the pandemic, she’d been well enough to take on a part time job for the first time. She also began to pursue a community college degree that she’s again had to put on hold.

All Hasi wants is to be well enough to work. With work, she would have the means to live away from her family, continue her studies, and help rescue animals however she can.

Her panic attacks and PTSD episodes have been escalating by the day, and it’s imperative that she’s admitted to a hospital for psychiatric care. Her doctor arranged for her to be admitted to a free government hospital, but due to the Sri Lankan national crisis-spawned overcrowding and poor conditions, she became more profoundly stressed.

We hope to raise enough money to admit her to a private hospital. We also want to get her consistent access to therapy, so that her emergency treatment could lead to more long-term, life-affirming solutions.

Her initial emergency care and immediate treatment may come to approx USD 300. We also want to raise enough money for her medication (USD 300), therapy (USD 100), and doctor’s fees (USD 200) for the next five months, as well as money for medical investigation for her back injury (USD 100).

She doesn’t want to lose her dreams, and I don’t want to lose her. We met six years ago and I would be a different person without her. Less confident, less loving, and less curious.

Without her, the world would be a bleaker place.

Please help her.

It’s been said before on tumblr but the whole “white queer ex Christian to Jewish convert who simps for Zionism” needs to be talked about more. Tumblr leftists enabled this to happen by acting philosemitic and treating Judaism as the progressive opposite of Christianity rather than the complex religion and culture it actually is. Taking a page from their book when they call ex Christians who don’t agree “culturally Christian”, just because you have trauma from Christianity doesn’t excuse acting like a chauvinist and supporting genocide. I’ve seen how ex Christians who don’t agree with them, as well as queer/trans people of color especially Palestinians are treated by them. I had a phase where I considered doing this, but then realized how that isn’t what I need and talking to real Palestinian/arab kids made me disgusted with even liberal Zionism. The fact that these people claim to be leftist and understand that trans rights aren’t something you can “agree to disagree” over yet see Palestinians and their lives as something to debate over shows the cognitive dissonance they have. @hussyknee, @lesbianchemicalplant

tumblr user hussyknee, sideblog spite-and-waffles, Ao3 PinkLetterDay, has said previously that all racism stems from colorism (and dismisses other people's lived experiences), that light-skinned Jews with any European heritage don't get to talk about racial/ethnic discrimination, and that Israel is "not a legitimate state" (what does that even mean, and do you think it applies to literally any other country on the planet).

I usually just block and move on with stuff like this, but since she's been an ass to me & others over Bat fandom content and harasses people over political issues, I figured this time I would do a brief heads up, to lower the chances of someone stumbling over her posts, comments, reblogs, etc, through fandom content, and being fucking smacked in the g*d damned face with the real world crap.

Oh lordy, we know this is ten-thousand percent NOT the same thing at all (which is why we are making a separate post entirely about it) but we can definitely relate to this post by @hussyknee because we hate consumer activism and we made that one post about yelling at people eating chick-fil-a but not like, boycotting Pokemon Go and Home Depot and Walmart and people seriously took it to think that what we were saying "stop playing these/going to these stores" instead it being a post about. Fuckin' hypocrisy.

Stop! Just stop it!!!

Like okay good for you if you're able boycott [X] but seriously this is not going to fix anything unless you are doing like, literal arson. And because this is Tumblr we are going to state that we are using the idea of arson for the purposes of illustration and not like, as a statement of how we feel about arson. :v

And we know we are a white USian so we know this is absolutely not the exact same thing as poor people in the global south who are being fucked over by the US needing to like, access stuff, but something super set us off and we're not really sure what to say. Because saying "we are all the same," is fuckin' rude but it's also like...as an autistic and as an endogenic system and as a cluster of folks who has suffered at the hands of applied behavioral analysis (ABA) "therapy" and seclusion rooms at a young age something struck a chord here about OP's point that your oppressors Do Not Give A Fuck, we understand not being able to access information and material help, the fact they wanna force you to fucking assimilate and you will be killed or whatever if you don't --

The only true thing in this is that genocide of Palestinians is indeed ethnic cleansing. However, it was caused by hamas occupation, which was financed by soviet russia, and later, the hamas invasion of Israel. Saying "from the river to the sea" means supporting hamas AND russia who is financing hamas. It doesn't help Palestinians in any way. In fact, it only prolonges hamas occupation of Palestine, and therefore, the suffering of Palestinians.

Also, between some random no-names in Internet and actual historians who did a lot of useful stuff, I will choose the latter. Just some guys bragging about reading books doesn't prove their point to me.
