Hits Different (D.M. x Reader) - UNFINISHED

So, with the release of Midnights by my queen @taylorswift I’ve been obsessed with this song, which lead me to start writing this one-shot. Right now, I’m doing homework, but I’ll make sure to finish writing it as soon as I can. It’s been two months since Draco and I broke up, and it almost feels like things are starting to make sense again, kind of, at least considering you were on summer break and you didn’t have to see him every day, but time kept moving and in less than four hours, you were going back to campus at Hogwarts, where you were at risk of bumping into him more than you’d like to admit.

“Hey y/n, earth back to y/n” you heard your friend Hermione calling you and snapping her fingers to your face

“Sorry, what? I was somewhere else” you said coming back to reality, with your friends, in the Hogwarts Express

“You mean you were with someone else” Ron added teasing you, which earned him a small push from Hermione and dirty looks from both you and Harry

“Whatever you say, Weasley” you said rolling your eyes hoping your voice sounded chill enough for the conversation to shift subjects

“Come on, y/n, you know that short lived love wasn’t even real” Harry added trying to encourage you to move on; you knew it was well intended, but whenever your friends would start with their that love was a lie conversation, you would switch your brain off.

Sure, you and Draco only dated a few months, and it all somehow started as a bet from both sided, but it was also passionate, fun, and somehow it left a special mark on your heart. This wasn’t your first heartbreak, it wasn’t even your third; honestly, your years at Hogwarts gained you the reputation of a heartthrob, the dating pool was wide open and you sure dipped more than your toes on it, which earned you enough experience to just walk away leaving a trace of broken hearts; but this time your heart ached different, it was hollow, every love song made you think of Draco and something felt wrong about not being next to him. More than once you though about reaching out to him to make up, but your pride always got on the way.

Camp Nano Update - July 8, 2021

I started Camp on the 6th, so I’ve really only had 2 days of writing, but in that time I’ve gotten about 3,000 words down. I’ve been working on Project Found. I’m aiming to get this draft to 50k by the end of the month, which means writing 26k during Camp Nano, since the draft has basically been left half-finished since April (oops!).

Not much to say other than the words have been flowing pretty well!

Excerpt (~260 words) and taglist below the cut!

It wasn’t often that someone was important enough for Pyrran to leave his throne and approach them himself, least of all a mere criminal, but Cainnhyr was something special. Cainnhyr managed to keep slipping away.

Cainnhyr had information.

So here they sat in his throne room. Pyrran stood proud and tall, hands clasped behind his back. The sound of his footsteps, slow and steady, echoed off of the stone floor and the stone walls as he circled the prisoner. He didn’t look to them as he paced—they were far too inferior for him to even consider it. “You know very well what I am capable of, do you not?”

“I do, sir.” Cainnhyr kept their gaze low. They knew the best way out of this situation was to be as respectful as possible and minimize the consequences they would face.

“Good. Then you know you’re only still alive because I have a use for you.”

“Of course, sir.” That was something they could count on.

Pyrran’s steps continued to keep a steady beat, but Cainnhyr almost couldn’t hear it over their own racing heart. They had practically nothing left to lose, why were they so afraid? As long as Pyrran thought Cainnhyr knew something, he’d keep them alive.

“You were seen in TOWN with a human boy.” Pyrran’s voice pulled them from their thoughts. “Do you want to tell me about that?”

No, Cainnhyr thought, I do not want to tell you about that. “Yes sir, I was there,” they said. “What do you want to know?”

Hey I saw that your requests are open so I had an idea. I saw that Tom Felton ( and obviously Draco Malfoy) don’t like hufflepuff, so I wanted to use it for a request

one day Draco finds the reader (can be his crush or already girlfriend) from hufflepuff trying to ignore the fact that shes a hufflepuff (not going to the quidditc game or spending less time possible in her common room for example) because she’s tired of being part of a house that is always “losing, hated and underestimated“ and he comforts her

(lately I’ve being kinda sad of being a hufflepuff since o saw some Harry potter memes and hufflepuff was always… an “idiot”, I even took another test with another account and got into slytherin, now I have both accounts 🥲🥲)

Everyone knew Gryffindor was the brave and courageous hose, Ravenclaw was full of the clever kids who besides excelling in magic were incredibly sharp, Slytherin sure had a reputation as the “bad guys”, but come on, even a dark aura around the house of the cunning and ambitious was interesting and fitting, but, what about Hufflepuff? Sure, people would refer at Hufflepuffs as patient and hardworking, but again, isn’t that just a nice way of calling losers who never get anything done? Those thoughts had been occupying your mind for the better part of the last two weeks, and pushing them away was beginning to be harder by the second.

“Hey, darling!! Ready for the big game?” your boyfriend, Draco Malfoy, caught up to you in the hallway and put his arm over your shoulder

“Hello Dray, I don’t know, I was actually thinking about skipping the game and staying in and studying for the Divination exam” you replied trying to hide your true intentions for skipping the game

“Come on!!! Hufflepuff is totally going to kick Ravenclaw’s ass in quidditch” Draco said a little too excited “I even got you this” he added handing you a paper bag, which you opened to reveal black and yellow pompons, flags, and what seemed to be a folded banner

“What in the…?” you started, but Draco interrupted

“Hufflepuff official merch!” he added enthusiastically “I got it earlier today, and I thought we could cheer to your fellow Hufflepuffs with it tonight”

“Woow, it’s all… spirit-y” you replied still not convinced

“It will be amazing, darling!! Maybe you can even lend me a scarf or an old robe just to blend in among the Hufflepuff crowd” Draco said with his eyes lighting up with joy.

Of course, he was happy, last week Slytherin beat Gryffindor, meaning, they would advance to the quidditch championship; Draco did not know what it was belonging into the losers house, and therefore, he was never embarrassed of wearing his colors with pride, but you, oh Merlin, you knew this game against Ravenclaw was just a requirement, but at the end, Hufflepuff would lose, just like they’ve lost every other game.

“Hey? Love? Please tell me what’s wrong?” Draco questioned with a brow raised and a worried expression

“What? Nothing, I’m, just distracted” you avoided the questions, but you knew your boyfriend enough to know he was going to keep pushing until he got an answer

“Talk to me y/n, please” he pleaded as concerned filled his eyes and you couldn’t hold his gaze any longer

“It’s stupid, so don’t worry about it, I’ll just stay in my dorm and study for my exam” you added and trailed off, turned around in the corner, and down the stairs, into the Hufflepuff dorms.

You were in your room, reading from your divination textbook, but you could hear chanting, laughs and cheering emerging from the Hufflepuff Common Room and you wouldn’t help but wonder “why are they so excited, when they know they don’t stand a chance against the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team?”. All you could think about was how stupid this whole circus was, so you decided to shift your focus back in your book when you heard a knock in your door.

“Hi y/n, are you in there?” you heard Cedric Diggory’s voice from the other side of the door

“Hi Cedric” you replied opening the door and flashing a shy smile

“How are you? Is everything alright?” he said with a warm smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes

“Yeah, yes, everything is fine, why are you asking?” you tried to sound as cool as possible

“Me, I, we, we were wondering why you didn’t join our little pre-game gathering, and we wanted you to know that if anything’s wrong or you need anything, you’re not alone, we are all here if you need to talk, or if you just want a fried, we are all here for you, y/n” Cedric said moving so you could see the crowd of Hufflepuff’s facing your door with a little concern in their eyes, but overall, warm smiles, which made your heart all warm and fuzzy

“Wooow, thank you Cedric, and thanks everybody!! I… I don’t know what to say other than don’t worry about me” you said with your cheeks flushed in color

“Of course, we worry, y/n, you are a Hufflepuff and we are all family here” Cedric said and voiced followed him saying stuff like “we are here for you”, “we got you, y/n”, “yes, y/n, we are all your friends”, “we are a family here”

“Thank you all so much, and I can’t stay right now, but I’ll see you at the game” you flashed a smile to your housemates, and left, headed to find Draco before the game.

“Hey Malfoy, ready to cheer on Hufflepuff tonight?” you told your boyfriend who was sitting with his friends at the Slytherin dinner table

“Of course I am, love, what made you change your mind about the game?” he said with a huge smile and moving so you could sit next to him

“Why waste your time cheering for the losers?” you heard Crabbe -one of Draco’s friends who you didn’t like that much- question with humor on his tone

“Shut up before I hex you, Crabbe” Draco said with an icy tone and a poisonous glare at him “Come with me, darling, we have to pick up a few things from my dorm before the game” he said standing from the table and taking your hand.

You followed him on autopilot, as Crabbe’s words were still spinning in your head and making you feel stupid for even considering going to the game and cheering for your house. You didn’t want to admit it, but he was right, you knew he was right, and Draco knew it too, that’s why he threatened to hex him.

“Hey, gorgeous, talk to me, what’s wrong?” you heard Draco plead, taking you put of your thoughts, you gazed around the room, and you noticed you were in Draco’s dorm

“He’s right, Dray” you said with a string of voice

“What are you talking about?” Draco said turning from his dresser to face you

“Crabbe, what he said about cheering for the losers, he’s right” you added a little too ashamed to look at him in the eyes

“Crabbe’s just stupid, y/n, don’t mind him” Draco said rolling his eyes and getting the paper bag with Hufflepuff merch

“No, he is right, Hufflepuff is the stupid house, they never win, they don’t excel particularly at anything, and they just go through life as if being nice is all there is” you started ranting “Sometime I wonder why I was sorted in the most useless house” you said that taking off your Hufflepuff robe

“Hey, y/n, I don’t know where this is coming from, but please, I’m begging you to stop saying those horrible things” Draco said coming closer and taking your hands in his and caressing them

“I mean it Dray, patience and hard work are only fancy ways of saying pathetic loser” you added this time with hurt and anger in your voice “Even you used to make fun of stupid Hufflepuffs like me” you said taking your hands from his grip and you could see his jaw tightening

“Look y/n, I used to make fun of Hufflepuffs, before actually getting to know them, okay?” he said passing his hands through his hair in frustration “if there is anyone that’s stupid, it’s me, for judging an entire house over a stereotype, but if you love me, trust me on these, there is nothing stupid about being a Hufflepuff. You Hufflepuffs are brave, because there is nothing more courageous than a person who puts his heart in the line for it to be broken; nobody feels like Hufflepuffs, nobody gives like you guys do, and you know what? Because everyone is too afraid to commit, to feel, to actually live to the fullest. Don’t get me started in how smart you actually are, some of the greatest authors are Hufflepuffs, for Merlin, I’m almost certainly Merlin was a Hufflepuff!! You guys aren’t just book smart, you are street smart, and most importantly, emotionally smart, do you know what some of us would give to actually have that balance? And cunning? You Hufflepuffs never back down from a fight when you are defending something or someone you love!!! You Hufflepuffs just don’t know when to give up, and if someone needs you? You are the most fearless, caring, giving, non-judging, amazing people there are!!! The fact that you are… embarrassed to be a Hufflepuff? Come on y/n, being a Hufflepuff is a privilege, but you, are too focused on something tiny as quidditch to realize you are not just the best wizards, but the best people there are in this school” Draco said starring intensely into your now teary eyes “And I just want to add, I admire Hufflepuffs, I’m proud to be dating a Hufflepuff, cheez, y/n, you are my biggest pride and joy!! I admire you, I admire your house, and I don’t know if you have noticed it, but every day I work hard to be deserving of the love of a Hufflepuff” he finished stepping closer to you. Tears were now streaming down your cheeks and you kept wondering “Did he really mean that? Was he really proud to date a Hufflepuff? Did he actually admire Hufflepuffs” His words kept circling on your head and all you managed to do was wrap your arms around his neck, and he wrapped his around your frame.

“I love you” you said into his ear still intertwined in the hug

“And I love you too, my little Hufflepuff” he replied placing a kiss on your head

Camp Nano Update -- April 12th, 2021

Words Written: 8,746 / 15,000

Been writing in Project Found for Camp Nano. I’ve actually had to increase my goal twice already this month (started a 5k, then I wrote a lot on Saturday).

Overall, it’s going well. I’ve had some trouble outlining this one, so I’ve just jumped in with the drafting, and I’m figuring out the plot as I go. I’m also writing my scenes out of order, so there’s a lot of new experiences happening this month.

Okay, so maybe I think this whole thing is stupid. Jackson sighed, resting his chin on his hands. But my therapist seems to think it’s a good idea, so who am I to argue, I guess. This journal was my father’s originally. He’s an asshole, so I don’t mind stealing it. Besides, it’s not like he can take it from me or anything. This whole thing, with Tyler being trapped…it’s not right. It should be me out there. I’m the one that fucked up. Besides, he has a family who misses him. They deserve their son, their brother, back. All I have is Lorna, and she’d move on. I know she would.

If I could do one thing differently, I’d have listened to him. I should have listened. He quickly looked up to make sure no one was near. If he was going to cry, if he was going to break down, it was going to be while he was alone. Besides, he was filling a book with some of his deepest emotions and fears, that was something no one else needed to see.

Lorna would respect his privacy, he was fairly sure of that. It was everyone else he thought he needed to worry about.

1: What’s your favorite song and why? Deeefinitely don't have a favorite favorite, but I guess Sexy And I Know it because it's good for everything. Workout? Yep. Cooking? Yep. Driving? Yep. All around good song that no one can judge you for dancing to because hey, you're sexy and you know it.

2: Favorite kitchen appliance? Rolling pin. I like making pies. Does that count as appliance? I think it does.

3: If you had $10,000 , what charity would you give it to? Impact NW, hands down. Look it up, they're super awesome.

4: The worst book you read? I'm not a big believer in bad books, but the book that I liked the least was probably Twilight. Cliche, I know.

5: Most prized stuffed animal? Mary Bear. She's a stuffed panda who I've had forever and was given to me by my late grandmother.

7: If you could take a picture of anything to hang up in your room, what would it be of? Like, as decoration? Probably silhouettes in motion. They're so peaceful.
