Man.. this book started out good and then swandived into stupidville
Like, did the author just completely blank out on ideas here? "Uh.. she runs away for no raisin"
I can think of 3 other plot points that would have worked better. Man..
ok so the new book i'm reading is about a human who because of her asshole ex-boyfriend, was left holding the bag for his evil shit and was sentenced to 75 years on some alien ice planet where humans usually have a life expectancy of a mayfly since the planet is so inhospitable and the quote unquote prison is a hellhole where the gangs actually run everything (the guards are just there to make sure that the work quota is done each day, outside of that good fucking luck)
so this woman was smart, stole some alien clothes to hide her scent, wears this alien helmet everywhere so no one knows she's a human woman, hides when she eats or pisses, and found a small hidden cave to sleep in each night with necessities she stole during her time there (including a heat lamp)
so she's been there a month and lasted wayyy longer than previous humans, however, she accidentally slipped up and stumbled upon the territory of one of the meanest gang leaders, more so when he caught her without her disguise (naked taking a bath in a rare hot spring).
He tried coaxing her to him, however during a commotion in their hidden base, she ran away back to her own cave.
When she was forced to scavenge for more supplies, she accidentally killed some men of a rival gang.
so now she's wanted by BOTH gangs, one wants to have sex, the other wants to kill her and do unspeakable things to her.
as she's now stuck between a rock and a hard place with both gangs actively searching for her, she chose a THIRD option, disguised herself again (helmet and everything), went to the first gang's base (the one that's not out to actively kill her) and signed up as a chemist for their secret chem labs.
me, sitting here reading: wow i would never have thought to do that. i would have found some hole and cried and then maybe flung myself off a cliff
