A true story:
Nighttime on Rota. It's very dark out. I begin to hear scratching at my hotel door.
I ignore it, but it continues. Eventually I decide I have to know what it is so I cautiously open up while keeping the chain in the door lock, ready to block the opening if it's a rat or feral dog.
I look down. And down a little bit more.
... Oh, good evening, sir! Yes, everything is fine here, thank you!
Just your friendly local hotel crab 🦀(Cardisoma carnifex, brown land crab)

You misunderstand the reason tumblr works: we do not want to be presented with content that is high quality and will keep our attention. This is a blogging website, for casual blogging. We need features that help the casual blogging experience, not the social media experience.
If you add an algorithm to tumblr all you will do is make the user base feel less in control of their content and their experience, which should be your goal. If you try to accommodate everyone, you will alienate everyone. Do not make tumblr more like twitter. Do not make it more like reddit. Do not use other sites as blueprints.
This site is one of the last holding onto a semblance of user-friendliness, and to be more like other sites is to lose that user-friendliness.
You say certain things are confusing to new users. That is a good thing. It should be a learning curve, where they get to learn how to use it and have it be notably different from other sites. This is called individuality and for a thing like tumblr it is so goddamn important.
You will lose so many by assimilating into the expected visual and technical functions of other sites that are hostile toward casual users. I've been here for years, and I will keep coming back as long as tumblr retains the thing I love about it, which is that I can choose what shows up on my dashboard and keep things I don't want to see off of it. There are other ways to keep this site running, you are simply looking for the easiest. You are going to fail if you go the easy route. Please proceed with caution.

The worst thing happened today and I am so fucking embarrassed. So I’m going home tomorrow which means I had to get my catheter out. Kinda uncomfortable but nothing these nurses haven’t seen before. They ask if they can use the opportunity to teach one of the aides how to remove them and I was like “yeah I’m all for that!” Because I fucking am
The two come in and as they have me spread my legs and start working on deflating the head of the catheter they have a revaluation. “Wait your last name is lastname does that mean you are momsname daughter??? Oh my gosh we love her and talk to her all the time”. Now I’m uncomfortable, but again it’s their job so I’m not too weirded out. They finally get the catheter out and as they do the nurse holds up the end and is showing the whole mechanism- with a giant bloody chunk on the tube. What?
Frantic, I grab a tissue and wipe at my crotch only to come back covered in blood. Oh. Oh god no. I had started my period two weeks early. My body had gone through so much stress and trauma in just two weeks and it had jump started my period. And it had started the moment that my nurses had pulled out my catheter as they talked about how much they loved my mother.
And to make matters worse? My friend was right outside the door waiting for things to be over so she could come back in.

MIKE SCHMIDT X READER
— AFTER THE INTERESTING EXPERIENCE AT FREDDY FAZBEAR’S PIZZERIA, MIKE’S LIFE WAS COMING TOGETHER.
Mike’s younger sister Abby remained in his custody, William was dead, Vanessa was receiving treatment in hospital, his mind was no longer plagued with the same repetitive nightmare and he’d finally gotten another job with no hiccups so far. He’d also got you.
You stayed over frequently and Abby adored you. You originally began as her babysitter, living conveniently next door. Mike asked you to babysit her and the two of you grew closer from then on yet there was attraction evident between each interaction. It was only until Mike’s experience at the pizzeria was when he finally spoke upon his interest in you, his near death experience making him more decisive and slightly more confident than he was before.
Luckily, this new job required no night shifts. However, he did have to wake early.
The alarm clock chimed at 6 o,clock sharp and he groaned, reaching over to the alarm clock to turn it off with his free arm, the other arm firmly wrapped around you.
He sighed before bringing his head back down to rest against the pillow and hold you closer, wrapping both his arms around you now. One of your legs rested over his waist and your arms rested loosely at his sides. Mike never pictured himself in love or to find it; never finding himself social enough to do so. You were his neighbour and he was obligated to be friendly to you in a sense but to develop a relationship with you was completely different.
He slowly opened his eyes, his hand coming to caress your hair. Your brows furrowed and your eyes remained closed, slightly annoyed he’d woken you up.
“Just because you’re in work early doesn’t mean I am.” You mumbled. A quiet laugh left Mike’s lips and his eyes widened slightly. “Damn, didn’t think you’d be that grumpy about it.” He replied, his voice slightly hoarse and sleepy.
“I wanted to say bye before I go.” Mike tells you, waiting for your eyes to open.
“Well goodbye.” You groan, turning over and leaving Mike’s embrace, your back now facing him. He sighed before wrapping his arm around your waist once more and laying closer to you. He sat up a little, enough to lean over and press a tender kiss behind your ear and neck. For someone who had lacked in relationships and physical touch he surely knew how to show affection.
“That was a shitty goodbye.” He tells you and a smile graces your lips at the disappointment evident in his voice.
“Come on.” He tugged at your shoulder lightly. You turned over and now lay on your back. Your eyes opened and met Mike’s deep brown ones. He was propped up on his arms, leaning slightly over you.
He looked to you, a soft smile on his lips before he leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. Your eyes closed once more slowly and your hands came to caress his face, your fingers gently running over his cheeks. His hand brushed past the shirt you wore, coming to rest on your waist and his thumb traced circles into your skin.
The two of you kissed for a while, your lips kissing every inch of his; it’s what he craved every morning. Reluctantly, Mike pulled away from the kiss and leaned back to look at you.
“I love you.” He told you quietly. It’d taken him a while to say and he still didn’t feel entirely comfortable saying it but he wanted you to know he meant it.
“I love you too, but you’re gonna be late.” You say with a laugh. Mike averts his gaze to the clock and sighs before leaning down and giving you one more quick chaste kiss.
“Alright, alright. Remember Abby’s—“ you finished his sentence, knowing the usual routine. “—Abby’s lunch and she needs to be at school by eight thirty, I know.”
You usually looked after Abby in the mornings and whenever you could which helped Mike a lot and he appreciated you for it. “Thank you.” He tells you, giving your waist a light squeeze before letting go of it and getting out of bed.
He got dressed and you curled up in bed once more, shutting your eyes and turning away from the window where light streamed through the curtains. Mike looked back at you and walked over, leaning down and pressing a kiss on your forehead and cheek.
He loved you so much.
“Okay bye.” He whispered, watching a smile form on your lips after he kissed you. He smiled himself at the sight of you before leaving the room, longing for the weekend where he didn’t have to set any alarm and could remain in bed with you.
