Hover States

Having created a new contact section as well as SVG Icon sets, I needed to be able to make them look more interactive. I previously looked at micro-interactions which give me an insight on what I could do to improve this. I then came across an article about hover states. This article then talked about hover states now including the pros and cons to them. If used right hover states can be extremely good and add delighters to the audience. However used wrongly, hover stated can be more of hinderance and hide work, change alignment, etc.

I intend to used some sort of hover state that is obvious but does not cause any interferences with the rest of the content.

Hidden Menu Interface

As mentioned in the pervious post, this is the interface for the hidden menu when opened in the hamburger menu in the top right hand corner. The burger will animate into an X when open. Aswell as a swipe - block hoverstate on the buttons

Hover State Added

Having looked at the the importance of hover states as well as the best colour to use, I then added the hover state to my website. The complementary hex colour along with a slight shadow is perfect for the the user to clearly see the hover state without affecting any other content or alignment.

Glossier’s entire site is pretty wonderful, but they particularly own it with their product pages — starting with static, simple images on mobile and progressively enhancing to video and some slick hover states on larger screens.

Change is Colour

One of the best and most effective ways to create a successful hover state is through the use of colour. I went on top Adobe Colour in which I entered my brand main colour to get the exact complimentary hex colour. I then decided that this will be the colour to use for my hover states.
