Hot Cocoas and Chocolates
As Winter nears, I delve into the pleasures of the cold season! And that includes being out in the cold, preferably walking into crunchy, pristine snow as flakes still fall from pale skies, or enjoying the cloudless blue and sunshine and the frozen grass underfoot. These walks in the (very, very) fresh air are energising, and there's nothing more delectable than warming up with a cup of frothy, foaming cocoa afterwards! Pick your favourite in this selection of delicious Hot Cocoas and Chocolates, curl up in a chair or sofa by the fire, real or fictional (on the telly screen, if you don't have a chimney either!) with a good book, and enjoy!

Delicious Homemade Hot Chocolate
Tumblr media
This recipe is made with a combination of cocoa powder and chocolate chips. The cocoa powder adds the distinct “hot cocoa” flavor, and the chocolate chips melt into the mixture making this drink extra creamy, rich and luxurious. A splash of vanilla extract rounds out all that chocolaty flavor and makes this what I consider the perfect Homemade Hot Chocolate.
Homemade Hot Chocolate
Servings: 4 (see note below for smaller servings)
4 cups milk (preferably whole or 2%)
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ cup bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
Place milk, cocoa powder and sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium/medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until warm (but not boiling).
Add chocolate chips and whisk constantly until the chocolate chips melt and distribute evenly into the milk. Whisk in vanilla extract, serve immediately.
SMALLER SERVINGS
2 servings:
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
¼ cup chocolate chips
⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 single serving:
1 cup milk
1 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 tablespoons chocolate chips
1-2 drops vanilla extract
Notes
One of the wonderful things about making hot chocolate from scratch is that you can make it exactly the way you want it!
Want it extra rich? Add some half and half.
Want it less sweet? Use bittersweet/dark chocolate chips.
Want it healthier? Use skim milk or almond milk, and reduce the sugar a touch.
Want flavored hot chocolate? Add cinnamon, peppermint extract, a shot of espresso, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
The options are endless!

Red Velvet Hot Chocolate
@frostysfrenzy here's the recipe I was talking about! (Not mine, but I have no clue of the origin)
Ingredients
2 cups milk
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Tbs. sugar
2 oz. cream cheese
2 tsp. vanilla extract.
4 tsp. red liquid food coloring
Whipped cream and additional cocoa powder, optional
Directions
In pot, combine milk, 2 cups water, chocolate chips, cocoa powder and sugar. Over medium heat, bring to a boil, stirring; bring heat to low.
Cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened slightly, about 5 minutes.
Stir in cream cheese until melted and smooth.
Remove from heat: add vanilla and food coloring. Divide between four mugs (I mean, if you want, I would reccomend)
Garnish with whipped cream and cocoa powder.

Drinks of Doom: Ghostly White Haunt Cocoa 👻
Tumblr media
It may not be Deltarune-related but I have some Halloween-themed drink recipes to share! Most are non-alcoholic which is good news for the majority of my audience. First up is a frightfully good white hot cocoa which looks as if a ghost is haunting your mug. With vanilla almondmilk and a melted marshmallow or two mixed in, you have a rich and sweet creamy drink that’ll make your tastebuds scream with delight.
You will need for a single 12 oz serving:
1 and 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/4 cup white chocolate chips
1 or 2 marshmallows (vegan ones work great)
Pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Whipped cream (it can be nondairy if you’re vegan or simply lactose intolerant)
Combine almond milk and white chocolate chips in a saucepan on medium-low heat. Stir to combine as the white chocolate melts.
Soften marshmallow(s) in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds, then add to the hot cocoa and stir to melt and dissolve the marshmallow(s). Because the marshmallows add more sugar and sweetens the drink further, one may be all you need unless you like it REALLY sweet.
Lastly, just add a pinch of salt and 1/4 tsp of vanilla and stir to combine. Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream.
As you can see, I served mine in a glass mug with a little ghost face drawn on in black dry-erase marker to add to the ghostly theme (and because it looks cute)! 👻

Mo’s Recipe for Fic Writing, Warm Drink Edition: Hot Chocolate!
One packet of hot chocolate mix (I used Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate packets)
Three Andes Mints chopped up
Milk of choice (today I used whole, but I’m lactose intolerant so I usually use oat milk. Whole is better for hot chocolate though) I never measure ingredients so you have to follow your heart on this one. (Or more accurately, your hot chocolate mix directions will tell you how much to use).
2 cups. One for the hot chocolate and one for heating the milk up!
Heat up the milk in the microwave in a microwave safe cup. You don’t want it too boil over or anything crazy, but you do want it hot enough to melt the chocolate. (I did 40 seconds and then another 40 seconds, but it’s possible that our microwaves work different so keep that in mind!)
While that’s heating, add the chopped Andes into the hot chocolate mug of choice.
Then add in hot chocolate mix.
When the milk is done heating, add some of it to the mug. Stir well until the chocolate powder is dissolved. Then, add the rest of the milk. Stir again to help melt the candy and then don’t worry about it because it’ll likely melt as you’re drinking it. (Mine is as I write this).
And there you go! A good old mint-y hot chocolate.
I’m going to need to go make some more for when I get back to my fic, because I drank all of mine while writing this

OMG SIS! I just wanna know what your mom feeds you like your art style is so good that it physically hurts💘Also if I don't see Kushina in your art style I'll die. 💀
She doesn't :') But thankyou so much!! 🥰💕 I don't want you to be hurt in any way though, that is not my intention.. so! I'm going to share with you my current hot chocolate recipe. It is not mine, but I can't remember who's it was.. maybe 'Joshua Weissman' from Youtube.. though I'm not sure, I've tried many different ones and they're saved in my notes.
It's not mine, but imma claim it anyway. Sue me.
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons (13g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1.5 tablespoons (18g) brown sugar
1 tablespoon (18g) cream
1 cup (236ml) milk
1/4 teaspoon (2g) vanilla extract
Small pinch salt
INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix all ingredients but marshmallows in a medium saucepot.
Top with marshmallows and finish with grated chocolate.
No. "I don't even like hot chocolate." Is not okay. Unless you're from America, I heard that the chocolate there is bad. (Don't kill me, it's what I heard and I tried Hershey's... just.. no.)
"Also if I don't see Kushina in your art style I'll die. 💀"
Can't have murder on my hands atm Non.e. Kushina it is then~ Though it's almost her birthday.
I'll plan it for that date, okay? ヽ(´∇`)ノ🧡

Cardamom Hot Chocolate
Tumblr media
"(…) I make cocoa, thick and creamy, beaten to a froth with a little whisk, and serve it in deep mugs to keep it hot right through to the end. It is part of the ritual of drinking cocoa that the first sip scalds your lips. Cardamom seeds, crushed beneath the weight of a pestle and mortar, have much to offer to a mug of hot, dark chocolate."
On a very chill day, especially when you've been outside, welcoming yourself home with a hot beverage is the epitome of comfort. And this Cardamom Hot Chocolate, which I want to make every year as I listen to Nigel Slater narrate his Christmas Chronicles, beautifully fragrant and creamy, feels like a hug in a cup! Happy Wednesday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
3 plump cardamom pods
2 heaped teaspoons demerara sugar
1 teaspoon Homemade Vanilla Extract
½ cup double cream
1 1/2 cup semi-skimmed milk
45 grams/1 1/2 ounces good quality dark chocolate (at least 65% cocoa solids)
1 heaped tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
Crush cardamom pods, and empty the pods in a mortar. Crush the seeds thoroughly with the pestle.
In a medium saucepan, combine crushed cardamom seeds and demerara sugar. Give a good stir, and add Vanilla Extract. Stir in double cream and milk. Heat on the stove, over medium heat until simmering.
Remove from the heat and allow to infuse, 10 minutes.
Then, return over a medium flame, and bring to a slow boil.
Meanwhile, break dark chocolate into a medium bowl, and sift in cocoa powder.
Once the cardamom milk and cream mixture is just boiling, pour over the chocolate and cocoa. Cover with a lid, and set aside, for a couple of minutes.
Then, remove the lid, and whisk energetically until well-blended and smooth. Pour cardamom hot chocolate back into the saucepan, and heat, over a low flame.
Pour Cardamom Hot Chocolate into a large, deep mug. Enjoy immediately!
