DC X DP FIC,, THING
Based in the Allegheny AU from this post.
Danny had a plan. It was not a good plan, in fact, he was pretty sure this was the worst plan he could have come up with. You see, he knows others have tried this, and he knows that they failed. But Danny's different, okay? He's got the panache, the oomph, the moxie - he's a dumb teenager, and he's leaving. He's taking Sam, and Tucker, and Vlad, and Ellie - fuck, Ellie - and he's leaving. It's going to work. It has to work.
He's stayed up for two weeks straight, coming up with ideas and strategies with Tucker. He's prepped with Sam, leaving her in charge of all the physical prep involved. He's told Vlad to pack up and be ready.
Tonight's the night. Tonight they were going out through the Southside woods - the ones with the least amount of agent traffic and the most danger. It was the only way (Tuck had run the numbers.) Originally, they weren't supposed to leave until next week, but the GiW had come far to close to wait any longer.
He almost got caught - Danny had almost got captured. They couldn't wait any longer. So Danny took his designated bag, strapping it against his back. He took Ellie's hand, and he snuck them off to the designated meeting place. Sam was the only one there when they arrived, chouching in a shroud of darkness over the additional run bags. It only took a few minutes for Tucker and Vlad to join them.
"We must go, I tried to lose them but I may still have been followed." With that, they took off into the woods.
~~~
There was a buzzing sound that had only gotten worse through the years. It was driving Clark insane - he had to find it. Noone else in the league (besides Bruce) had really believed him, pushing it off as electrical wires and such. And yeah, Clark could hear those - but this was different! This was worse! It was somewhere between high pitched and warbling and it was just constant.
Clark was going to find that noise. He was going to do it tonight even if it took until the sunrise. He didn't need sleep! It's not like he would be getting any with the ringing in his ears!
What used to be a simple one pitched hum turned into a three pitched wail (sometimes four) and it was going to be what made Superman evil. Superman couldn't be evil, so finding the source it was! Clark had managed to narrow down the general location, Americas, Midwest, isolated, ending in Illinois, but when he looked for it in a map nothing came up. There was literally nothing there, not even from salitlites. Maybe it was a natural phenomenon? (He hoped not)
He followed that god awful noise till he reached something that surprised him. A full fledged settlement, one that didn't show up on anything he had every seen before. The town was in a black out, the only light being that of a spinning spotlight in the center. He didn't know what to make of it.
Clark could hear the footfalls of patrolling men - soldiers, ones with guns of some kind. He could hear the resting hearts and breathes of the residents. He could hear the small group making a break for it in the woods.
Why was a small group fleeing?
Crew Profiles Part 1: Mary Gillham-32
Greetings Cosmonauts!
This is the first of a series of posts detailing the characters of Torchship: Forbidden Space, in the leadup to the release of our Pilot episode. And who better to start with than the most of important character of all, the rocket: Mary Gillham-32 herself!
Tumblr media
Tough little ship
By 2152, it had become clear that the Aquillian De-Militarised Zone was here to stay. A ceasefire intended to last until peace negotiations that never came. The Divine Empire, risen from the ashes of the old Aquillian Empire, officially refused to recognise the DMZ. But unofficially? They made it clear that so long as Humanity kept out of the DMZ, there would be no more hostilities.
The Florence Bailey program was soon established. Tasked with venturing inside the disputed territory, with the primary objective of reconnoitring Divine Empire operations, charting the DMZ, and attempting to make secret alliances with any civilisations inside the region. By secretly breaking the cease-fire, it was hoped the Florence Bailey program could, if not prevent another war, at least ensure Humanity was prepared for it. Secrecy being paramount, the Florence Bailey program utilised civilian ships, modified to appear like those belonging to vessels of various alien polities, alongside ‘acquired’ vessels of Aquillian and other alien origin.
While successful, the Florence Bailey program was rife with controversies. Including a minor political scandal when the Free Aquillian Republic Raptor Libre encountered Florence Bailey-4, a captured Raptor masquerading as Free Aquillian Republic Raptor Libre.
Tumblr media
Aquillian Free Republic Raptor Libre. Or is it Florence Bailey-4?
In 2162, Humanity developed their first cloaking device, finally allowing Star Patrol to explore the DMZ without the headache of acquiring alien rockets, or offending its neighbours. The Mary Gillham program was born. It carried the same objectives as the Florence Bailey program, but now using purpose built vessels, and operating openly inside the DMZ as Star Patrol vessels, using cloaking technology to remain undetected by Divine Empire rockets or listening posts.
Mary Gillham rockets are built to contradictory standards, and Mary Gillham-32 is no exception. She needed a small profile and to appear non-threatening. Enough that if discovered, she would prompt a manageable diplomatic incident, rather than a full blown war. She also needed to be self sufficient, capable of cruising for months, potentially years, without resupply or official support, feature a cloaking device, advanced sensor systems, and be well enough armed to fend off rockets 3 times her size. How successful this was depends entirely on who you ask…
Tumblr media
"You're shorter than I expected." - Mary Gillham-32 faces off against a Divine Empire Second Rate.
Mary Gillham-32 is one of the smallest interstellar rockets in Star Patrol, and carries the bare minimum crew complement of 4. All Star Patrol rockets are cramped, but Mary takes it to another level. Supplies and equipment are stashed anywhere and everywhere there’s room. Her moonchute (the zero gravity shaft used to navigate up and down decks) is claustrophobic, and her doors are often joked to have been designed by Martians to spite the tall.
Tumblr media
Mary’s most important and defining feature is her cloaking device. Effectively a second, specialised variant of the FTL drive, though rather than warping space to allow for superluminal travel, the cloak warps space so steeply that it creates a bubble through which no light, heat, or tachyons can enter or escape. Effectively concealing the rocket in a tiny baby universe all to itself. Of course, this works both ways, while cloaked Mary is totally blind, relying solely on computer calculations to determine position, and a periscope in the form of a tethered drone that can be extended from the cloak bubble, at risk of detection.
Tumblr media
Mary's periscope observes a pack of Aquillian Raptors.
This lack of creature comforts is most obvious when it comes to the matter of armament. Too small to fit particle cannons or railguns, when it comes to combat Mary’s best hope is to cloak and escape. If that doesn’t work, she has a set of six externally mounted torpedo tubes. With no room for anything as wasteful as autoloaders, reloading is a process that takes the better part of a day. New torpedoes must be manufactured in stages in the matter printer, transported up the ship and out the cargo airlock, assembled in space, and then manually loaded into the tubes after being fitted with the desired warhead.
With only six shots, it’s imperative that even one torpedo is enough to end any fight. So, in addition to a supply of standard flak, nuclear and a handful of antimatter warheads. She also carries a small stock of Graviton bombs. An experimental warhead that creates a pseudo-singularity with an event horizon diameter measuring tens of kilometres. Anything caught within is utterly ripped apart. Mary may only have six shots, but she only needs one.
In short, Mary Gillham-32 is an undersized, overengineered, and overpowered rocket with an understaffed and overworked crew, embarked on a dangerous, politically dubious mission with no hope of reinforcements or aid if they encounter a problem. But whatever sticky situations their mission brief gets them into, the crew can rest assured that with a bit of clever thinking, Mary will get them out of it.
im still thinking about how tove jansson was unmatched character designer too, bcos i feel that, as much as i love most of cartoon adaptations, none of them managed to capture the vibe of original illustrations perfectly. like, her lines are very distinct, yet simple, and convey the essence of the character fully through shapes (mostly round moomins), face, hair and clothes details (like, hemulin looks exactly like old nerd, snufkin wearing expeditors hatand coat,etc). i hope its already being studied
I want to hear the niche anime recs
Oh I GOT you. Most of these are all short watches, 12/13 eps, and absolutely worth anyone's time--there's also enough genres here that I hope there's something you like.
Do you like thrillers, bright colors, and edge-of-your seat scifi dystopia action? Akudama Drive had me so hooked I watched all 13 episodes, no breaks, and then it broke my heart at the very end as a parting gift. Fuckin incredible pacing.
Want a silly crime show that's an easily digestible buddy cop until ep7 takes you for an absolute ride with a skyrocketing body count and tonal whiplash? I watched Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited just for the seiyuus originally but the cast made me soft for them. 12 eps, not very high octane, and very sweet.
Interested in a vampire romance that somehow manages to quietly deconstruct heteronormative, allonormative societal constructs about falling in love on top of sick character designs and a gorgeous atmosphere? Call of the Night is a brilliant 12 episodes that had me absolutely whipped for the chemistry between the two leads.
Do you want something dark that nevertheless doesn't take itself too seriously? Hakata Tonkatsu Ramens is an anime about hitmen who play baseball on their off days, but it's also about found family and the lead is a crossdressing, grumpy assassin who ends up in a funny roommate situation as the premise of the show. Fantastic use of the style where each arc is a case, and the characters are both hilarious and heartfelt. Thanks to @neon-snail-city for the amazing rec.
Okay, picture this: sci-fi crime/psychological thriller, except you don't know if the twist is time travel, seeing the future, or something else entirely. Captured criminals take a deep dive into the minds of serial killers in order to catch them in Id:Invaded and it's such a brilliant overlooked anime that I can't believe it's so under the radar. I've heard it's similar to Psycho Pass but I haven't watched that yet, so I can't confirm.
Hear me out here: Interspecies Reviewers may be an ecchi pushing the boundaries of how much titty they can show on TV, but it has the most nuanced and intelligent exploration of kink, sex, and boundaries that I've ever seen in anime. And it's batshit hilarious, so if you like dirty humor, this one is a fun ride.
I can't make a niche anime rec list without Mars Red, either. Another vampire anime, except this one is a lot heavier. If you're a fan of anime that deals with grief, what it means to be human, and how to survive in a fast-changing world, Mars Red has some heart wrenching stories to tell you. I've talked a lot about it on this acc if you search the Mars Red tag :)
If you're a magical girl fan who enjoyed Magica Madoka and you're looking for something else bonkers to fill the void, check out Princess Tutu. It has some of the rawest writing I've ever seen, and it's about characters deciding if they want to fight fate or follow it in a crushing exploration of the fairytale genre--it's incredibly meta and self-aware as its main gimmick, too.
This one was popular enough to get a second season, but I love Snow White with the Red Hair too much not to put it here. It's a sweet shoujo romance with a fairytale setting and the female lead is one of the most badass, headstrong women I've ever seen. She doesn't take shit lying down and the male lead is head over heels for her, plus the side characters are super endearing.
The Visual Genius Behind UY2022 [Character Designs]- An Analysis 🧐 (Long Post)
Hai there, hope you’re having a great day! Today on ‘Yuca Analyzes Silly Things (For No Reason)’, we’ll be talking about how the remake uses different methods and techniques to achieve the fun aesthetic it’s known for as well as analyzing character designs and colors!
Note: There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to this topic, so I might not be able to cover ‘everything’, So I’m only analyzing sub- topics which comes to mind. And more importantly this is the first part of the analysis, since I had to split it because of how long it is and Tumblr only allows 30 images per post, so yeah.
With all of that aside, let’s begin!
Tumblr media
First, We’ll divide the analysis into sections to make it easier to understand and explain, for this part we’ll be talking about:
Naoyuki Asano and Colors
Lum’s Multicolor Hair
Character’s Designs
Conclusion (for now)
Naoyuki Asano and Colors We start off with Naoyuki Asano, who is the Character Designer as well as Chief Animation Director (for the first ED, as well as episodes 1- 13) for the remake. As in the reason the remake looks so bright and colorful and the characters is mostly because of him! Actually, this isn’t his first time working on a retro revival which he gave fun and aesthetic designs, since he’s actually done work as a Character Designer on Osomatsu-San as well…
Tumblr media
(Fun fact: Takahashi has stated that she has enjoyed his work on Osomatsu-San! But if he was chosen to design for UY specifically because of his work on this show has never been stated). Anyways, there’s a difference in how this remake is colored compared to most standard anime, on the topic of standard anime coloring, let’s look at the ‘Obstacle Course Swim Meet’ since it was first time Urusei Yatsura’s been animated with digital animation (if you don’t count the pachinko machine’s and stuff):
Tumblr media
Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE THIS OVA. Not only does it adapt three chapters into one episode, plus it’s own original material, but it also manages to capture the perfect essence of UY. This OVA is basically UY in a nutshell, lol. Storywise it’s hilarious, as to be expected as special created for the 2008 anniversary, but there’s one thing I didn’t like about this OVA, and that is… the colors. Like, how to put it? Boring? Yep, that’s it. The colors are the ones which are usually used in that specific era and were also used for Inuyasha (The Final Act) and Ranma 1/2 (Like this one, OVA 2008) and these colors (or atleast similar ones) were used in other anime at the time. It’s a natural choice they picked cuz Sunrise was doing Inuyasha at the time. But boy do I wish these could be better, It’s like a case of this is how it is because that was the only option at the time, but from a modern point of view it could be made much better, and that’s exactly why UY2022 is such a visual gem!
Tumblr media
Lum’s Multicolor Hair Of course, we can’t do a visual analysis on the remake if we don’t talk about what caught all our eyes first: Lum, or more specifically her new design. The fist aspect of her design we’ll be talking about is her hair. Lum’s ever changing iridescent hair has always been one of the most solid parts of her manga design, if you don’t count the bikini that is. But even though it was a staple of her design, when the manga was getting its anime adaptation, they were unable to animate Lum’s hair with it’s original look because of how difficult it was at the time with the restrictions when it came to 80’s animation, so instead they opted to choose a different color, something more grounded instead of the multi rainbow one and they chose dark green since that’s the color they chose for ten and they thought the color balanced well with the yellow in Lum’s design. And because of that most media depictions showed Lum with green hair and because of how more popular the anime is than the manga, her green hair became more well known then the manga’s iridescent color. Which brings us to now. For the remake they opted to give Lum the green(-ish blue for more of a standout color I guess…) hair, but here her hair changes color like in the manga, but here it depends on power, mood and surroundings. Here’s almost all of the different hair changes I managed to find in the remake:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can also see how her hair is layered with different or similar colors just even in one photo (not the Otoko Kumino one since she’s pretending to be a human), this is something which is inherited and applies to everyone in from the maternal side of her family by the way (as in her, her mom, ten and his mom). However since everyone sans Lum’s hair’s color doesn’t change, the only difference in the layered colors is that they’re more or less darker than the base color. Also to note is that there are some official art which gives her more Iridescent colors from the manga:
Tumblr media
And finally her hair changes color rapidly while electrocution…
Tumblr media
Then there’s her eyes, Lum’s eyes are colored bright green in the manga, most of the time that is, other times it’s colored dark green, blue or even yellow, so the remake’s colors aren’t that far fetched. Same for her eyeshadow. (Also her bikini’s a bit different as well in the sense her tiger stripes are limited and she also has string which holds it whereas she had no such thing in the manga. This isn’t a big change either, but I just wanted to point it out. I do prefer the manga’s though). That’s all for Lum, Now we can move onto the rest of the characters!
Tumblr media
Character’s Designs The character design in general is a lot cuter (like the round faces and all) than the manga’s artsyle, like the manga’s artsyle is cute af, but when the characters are drawn in a clearer and with closer shot they tend to look more elegant (or masculine if we’re talking about the guys). I tend to think of the artsyle as a combination of UY’s early artsyle and it’s final artsyle. It also kinda reminds me of how Takahashi draws the characters in smaller panels.
Tumblr media
‘My Man, his Gremlin gf, his cute ex, and the rich dude who stole his ex’
I also realized that the characters hair highlights were based of RT’s art as well, she doesn’t always give her characters highlights, but when she does, they look like…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘See how the outer highlights look like each other??’
Oh, and I should also state the the highlight change color depending on the surroundings as well similar to Lum’s hair. Now we’ll talk about the different method for colors used to determine the character’s hair:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters like Ataru and Sakura have their hair colored as their most notable color (notable cuz of the coloring in the 80’s anime), Like Ataru’s hair in the manga is brown, but I’m pretty sure Sakura’s is black.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters like Shinobu and Mendo have their standard hair colors as well, brown and black (which are also their manga hair colors as well), but both are tinted with other colors, for Shinobu it’s a tint of (purplish) pink and Mendo has a tint of dark blue, AKA the most used colors when Takahashi gives them abstract colors for their hair in official manga art:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters like Ran and Rei have their manga colors, but as you can see their highlights are colors which sticks out more compared to their actual hair colors.
Tumblr media
And Characters like Benten have their alternative hair color from the manga instead of her actual hair color (In the manga, it’s black except when Takahashi’s going abstract, then it’s red). I think there’s also the option to use a random abstractly tinted color or just a random abstract color in general, like for Ryoko, but it’s used very rarely it seems. That’s really all the different types of hair color decisions made in the remake, everything I can think of that is (idk if I missed anything and sorry if I did). The decisions for the eye colors are really more according to what would suit them, and the colors chosen are different colors, some have regular Japanese eye colors like brown (like Ataru and Sakura), some have colors which the average Japanese doesn’t have (like Shinobu and Mendo). The aliens’ eyes also have two differences from the humans’ eyes…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Aliens…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Humans…
First, The aliens eyes are colors which are realistically impossible like ‘Hot Pink + Blue’ or ‘Bright Orange + Yellow’ meanwhile the humans have colors which are realistically possible. And second, the aliens have an extra layer of color surrounding their pupils, while the humans do not. An extra thing I want to point out is that Tobimaro’s stars are yellow instead of white, which I found kinda weird since what they were supposed to reference were originally white, but I guess these guys thought it would stand out more or something. Anyways, that’s it for the eyes! Now we’ll talk about skin and clothes. For skin color almost every character is the same as their manga counterpart except for I think Tsubame and Tobimaro, who are noticeably a bit more tan (but I don’t really care cuz somehow they look more handsomer because of that, also Tsubame doesn’t look all that alike to Godai now). As for the clothes it’s a combination of the manga’s and og anime’s colors like the ribbon on the sailor suits are colored like in the og anime instead of plain in the manga, Benten’s outfit is red in the anime instead of the steel color from the manga, The Tomobiki school uniform is like it’s manga counterpart with the black jacket and the shirt instead of the og anime’s blue jacket and random t-shirts and so on… We’ll end this entire part by appreciating how well the remake adapted Oyuki and everything related to her (like she has her actual ice hair? ice one piece? more icicles on her hair? All like the manga instead of the injustice they did to her in the og anime? Hell yea!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Okay I have to say she does get ice hair later on in the 80’s version but it’s clearly purple and kinda soft like actual hair, and not much like ice minus a few blocky lines and little glazing, I still prefer the remake though. Also the 2008 OVA gives her ice hair as well but it’s no where near pretty as this one.)
Conclusion (for now) For now we’ll have to stop here since I’ve hit my image limit. I hope I’ll be able to complete this with the next part. The character designs for the remake is very well thought out and a lot of people probably watched the remake because of the character designs. I apologize if I’ve overlooked anything or made any mistakes. If you have any doubts or questions about this analysis feel free to send an ask and if you want me to do an analysis about other characters, feel free to send an ask for that as well (but once I’m done with the next part as well as an analysis on another character). You can check out my other analysis on my analysis tag.  And finally, likes are appreciated and reblogs are even more appreciated (seriously, please reblog this so more people can see this post, since I spent a lot of time on this!!). Hope you have a great day ahead!! 💕
here’s a question :3 uh do you have like any favourite anatomy or reference books/texts. or any tips for doing study’s??
sorry if this is like annoying or weird idk i’ve just been a little obsessed with your art lately. the way you capture shape and movement is so fantastic. you have such a talent for capturing characters personality through visual quirks too. idk like the way you draw ellie tlou is so specific. it’s not exactly on model but it’s kind of better lol. i can instantly tell most of what you need to know about her. same with your recent astarions like idk you’ve just managed to capture a real physicality about him that i think can be hard. idk i’m maybe biased but i think without any exposure to the game you could probably guess how he moves and sounds from your art.
idk uh sorry if this is worded weird i feel like i always do that LOL okay though anyways i adore your art it’s just so distinct. i’d eat it if i could. i’d honestly do a lot to capture even a fraction of the magic you’re creating. okay hope this message finds you well BYE
no need to feel self conscious about doing me a kindness in the form of gratifying to read, thoughtful observations of my fanart!!!!
thank you. very late response because i wanted to respond with some equally thoughtful advice and also let my ego calm down a bit, but..
im 'lazy' and like to keep drawing for fun as easy as possible. So i dont have any reference books hm... You obviously look at art and are able to relay to yourself and others what you saw and felt. thats the skill you should always indulge. looking at all kinds of things youre drawn to and observing why. best ref! (thanks again btw, best feeling being on the receiving end of that. to be... astarion voice: Seen in the Eyes of Another)
I have studied (and continue to do so when i get the chance) figure drawing at my community college, which was a big leap. i ended up focusing a lot on the relationship between the ribcage/pelvis/flow of the spine at that time. still my favorite part of drawing lol. During my most recent artblock i started copying muscle anatomy pages from a Morpho book as a way to keep drawing without a proper fixation. which is great because i also love the weight of flesh :^D
if you'd like my 'woo-woo advice' it's to get lost in the process and less invested in the results. and never be embarrassed. it'll keep you drawing (behind every piece of successful fanart is a mountain of scrap drawings of Fictional Guy #2378 facing 3/4 left.) and its meditative!! cathartic? personally i like to have a song/playlist to keep up the emotion im trying to work out going throughout my drawing session. helps me tell if the expression im drawing feels 'right'
and on the topic of drawing off model--!! Anytime im onto a new character i do spend a few sessions tracing their proportions/copying their models. after i figure out more or less what about their original design makes that Character i like to lose the training wheels. artistic interpretation is more interesting for me to look at and create. and i think it frees you up to better convey a feeling. the more you draw something the more you settle into 'what works' but i never set out to draw the same way twice! usually never anyway
thank you again for taking time to observe my drawings, and relaying back what you saw and felt. it honestly makes my day(s) to the point i almost feel guilty about it
SF NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR FOR 2023!
So many hot SF "rookies" from which to choose. We're giving you our Top-3 and bypassing an Honorable Mention list that would be too time consuming -- and just not comprehensive or fair enough -- to bring forward to the satisfaction of a sufficient percentage of our followers (we recognize an insurmountable task when presented). These three are in a class of their own. What they do in 2024 is yet to be determined. Cannot wait to see in what directions they are headed!
Dual-Media 44-Post, 276-Pack Megapost!
One is still posting livestreams on Bigo Live! but without the presence of cigarettes any longer; another purely is available on Social Media posts whose content on our brand was lifted from Instagram just about exclusively; the other, the youngest, has slowed down if not disappeared from having new content of her delivered on to YouTube! It is what it is! Hope you enjoy this re-cap post and have gained pleasure from being introduced to them throughout 2023!
(You read that correctly above with our breakthrough Dual-Media, no GIFs accounted for, 44-Post, 276-Pack Megapost! Remember a count towards the "pack" is an image, either photographic or a video. Thus one video with three photos is a count of 4. There's a lot of sizzling content to unpack here, and there is some duplication, to be honest and fair; we do not do subtracting for duplicates in tallying the "pack" count).
I came up with the idea to add these two to the AU a long time ago, but I initially thought they’d just distract from the dark tone. It wasn’t until recently that I (a) came up with these too-cute-to-not-use designs and (b) figured out a way for them to add to the Master Crown’s story despite it all.
In general, within this AU, Dark Matter are considered ‘inferior life forms’, basically giant space bugs that get in your way sometimes. ^^; Like dark matter IRL, they seem to simply exist out of sight, filling in the spaces between the realms that no one cares about. They can’t really compete with the big dimension-conquering supervillains, and they don’t try to.
Despite that, they’re probably due a little more respect. I mean, you might think of yourself as superior to a bug, but meanwhile the bug doesn’t even care that you exist, and its kind will probably still be around long after yours is gone. That’s the worldview the Dark Matter are working from, pretty much. ^^
GONE.Dark Matter Swordsman
I have a bad habit of drawing Swordsman designs without the swords…whatever; you’ll see it later. ;]
Anyway, this Swordsman is the MC’s primary henchman, being the most combat-ready specimen it managed to capture during its conquest. Over time, it’s been molded into a powerful mage in its own right, and with a Dark Matter’s regenerative ability, essentially unlimited lifespan, and (seemingly…) low intelligence, it makes a perfect subordinate.
In reality, though, it’s just a good actor. ^^ It’s not a secret genius or anything, but it knows enough not to show all its cards while it’s learning spells and gathering information for its true master. Besides that, it tries to keep a smile on its face to serve as a source of hope for its little partner. It doesn’t mind taking all the Master Crown’s abuse and pretending to be a happy slave if it’ll give Gooey one less thing to be sad about.
GONE.Gooey
A mere “appendage”, as far as the Master Crown knows. It doesn’t seem to do anything but stay near Swordsman and follow it around.
In reality, Gooey is actually Swordsman’s boss, in a way. It relays messages from their true master, including its initial order to pretend to be captured and stay with the Master Crown for observation.
Its canon-based origin as a Dark Matter-esque thing that used to goof around in Dream Land is still in play here-- unfortunately, that was eons ago, and now it is one of the only beings still in existence that can even remember Pop Star…as well as the planet’s slow death at the hands of the Master Crown. So it decided to re-assimilate itself into the Dark Matter collective in order for a shot at revenge, no matter how long it might have to wait.
++
In terms of the narrative, this duo’s just here to serve as one additional thing to help send the MC over the edge. :9 The revelation that it doesn’t actually control them and never did would definitely shake its faith in its own abilities much further, and I imagine Gooey would have some choice words for it before they finally leave it behind~.
Additionally, and most humiliatingly…they are actually a match for the MC in power. ^^;;; Partly due to all the time Swordsman spent learning from it, and partly because Dark Matter have much more latent potential than anyone realizes (i.e. everyone else is LUCKY they aren’t interested in conquering dimensions).
So yeah, imagine you’re already going through a rough time mentally, start suspecting that even your pet bugs might be acting against you…and they reply “oops, looks like you caught us” and then rise up and beat you within an inch of your life. So then your rivals can laugh at you for getting wrecked by a couple of insects. Not fun. XD
I just had a fun Miraculous AU idea (got inspired by a book i saw in Wattpad);
Yu-Gi-Oh Miraculous Vrians!
Tumblr media
I don't mind if people make artwork or write their own fan fiction of this. As long I'm credited for the original AU idea. I also posted this on DeviantArt.
In this AU, the kwamis are a special type of AI programming that is also called the "Miraculous Ignis". These AIs were secretly created by a third party during the Lost Incident. But when Professor Wang Fu (aka Master Fu) learns that these AIs were going to be used for evil purposes, he stole them from their creators and went into hiding. Fu managed to steal all the Miraculous Ignis', except for the Butterfly and the unfinished Peacock Ignis', which went missing during the theft.
10 years later, Gabriel Agreste uses the Butterfly Ignis to become the hacker terrorist known as Hawk Moth, who hopes to use the rest of the Miraculous Ignis' to waken his comatose wife, who used the Peacock Ignis too much without knowing it was incomplete. To lure out the Miraculous Ignis, Hawk Moth would hijack people's avatars in LINK VRAINS and turn them into his own mind controlled super villians. Also, to accomplish his goals, both Gabriel and his assistant, Nathalie Sancoeur, secretly infiltrate the hacker terrorist group called "The Knights Of Hanoi" under the codenames "The Collector" and "Catalyst". In hopes of not only finding the Miraculous Ignis, but to capture the original six Ignis' as well.
Meanwhile, Professor Fu decides to give the two most powerful Miraculous Ignis', the Ladybug and Cat, to Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste. They become LINK VRAINS' newest heroes, Ladybug and Cat Noir, who help the hero, Playmaker, fight against both both Hawk Moth and the Knights Of Hanoi.
Other details of the AU (with spoilers of Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains);
The Kwamis Ignis have the same type of body design as the original Ignis', but they still have their animal fixtures. For example, the Cat Ignis would still have his cat ears, tail, and green cat eyes. While the Ladybug Ignis have her red body with black spots (and maybe ladybug wings on her back). They also have the same personalities as in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon.
Similar to the Miraculous Ladybug series canon, every Kwami Ignis are kept in their own jewelry shaped electronics, which connect to the holder's duel disk by Bluetooth. The holder's duel disk also changes form when they log into LINK VRAINS (which helps hide their identities).
The Miraculous Ignis have their own separate animal theme Cyberse cards. For example, the Ladybug Ignis has a ladybug theme Cyberse monster cards, and the Cat Ignis has a cat theme Cyberse monster cards.
The Miraculous Ignis gives their holders the same powers/abilities as in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon. These powers can also be used as skills in a LINK VRAINS speed duel.
Also, like in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon, Hawk Moth can only akumatize people who are filled with negative emotions/thoughts. Plus, they have to have their own duel disk and deck.
People who are not logged into or even don't have an account in LINK VRAINS can still be akumatized.
In this AU, the akuma enters a person's duel disk as a virus and always goes into a person's ace monster card. While their super villain avatar takes form similar to their ace monster. That person's deck is also transformed when they become akumatized.
Marinette still dreams of becoming a fashion designer. While as a duelist, she doesn't have too much confidence in her skills. Marinette is the only one of her friends who doesn't have a LINK VRAINS account (not until she became Ladybug, but no one else knows that). When she's not using the Ladybug Cyberse deck, she owns a fairy type desk.
Adrian is still a fashion model for his father famous fashion brand in both Den City and sometimes in LINK VRAINS. Adrian enjoys dueling but doesn't have much time to do it for fun because of his career. When he's not using the Cat Cyberse deck, he owns a warrior type deck.
Marinette and Adrien (plus their friends/classmates in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon) go to Den City High School. And are in the same class as Yusaku Fujiki (aka Playmaker). Their class teacher is Miss Bustier from Miraculous Ladybug.
Ladybug and Cat Noir doesn't know the true identity of Playmaker. And Playmaker doesn't know their true identities either.
Yusaku/Playmaker didn't really trust Ladybug and Cat Noir at first. And didn't want them to become part of his fight against the Hanoi. But Playmaker later began working with them when he realized he wouldn't be able to fight both the Hanoi and Hawk Moth's akumatized villains.
The Knights Of Hanoi had no knowledge of the existence of the Miraculous Ignis until Hawk Moth started to attack LINK VRAINS with his akumatized villains.
The Hanoi also wasn't aware of The Collector actually being Hawk Moth, not until in episode 38 and 39 when Hawk Moth tried to take control of the Tower of Hanoi by akumatizing Revolver (the leader of the Hanoi).
Ryoken Kogami/Revolver managed to learn the true identities of Ladybug and Cat Noir but agrees to keep the secret after meeting Professor Fu.
Ancestor's Legacy chapter 14
The Desert: Chapter 4
Prev Ao3
Word count: 6,290
“What the fuck is this Ebo?!”
That was the phrase that woke Twilight up. As he tried to move and look around he felt pain radiating from every muscle in his body.
Twilight tried to recall what happened the previous day. He was caught in the tent, slammed into the mysterious potion filled rack, pain, and then he was caught soon after.
“Well, how would I know that this would happen?” Ebo angrily responded.
“Enough you two,” Terea, their leader, interrupted, “Ebo status report, what are we dealing with?”
Twilight could hear a pen being tapped on a wooden board, “Its size increased by roughly half of what its original height was added on. So, according to my hypothesis, it will have increased speed, strength, senses, be hungrier, but also be far more volatile than before,”
“Volatile?” the first voice, Laven asked irritably, “What is that supposed to mean?”
Twilight finally managed to open both eyes, and lift up his head ever so slightly from the ground. The three were arguing and talking some distance away. Luckily they weren’t aware he was awake yet.
“Well it will be more aggressive and have a lower patience level. I bet it will lash out unexpectedly,” Ebo gestured to the board.
“Can you control it?” Terea asked suddenly, “Or do we need to put it down while it is still asleep?”
“We are NOT doing that. We spent far too much effort capturing that mutt just for it to be thrown away,” Laven spoke this time with conviction.
“I will need to check, but I am sure we have the ingredients for me to create a potion of mind control,” Ebo nodded to himself, “and if it works then i can design a more permanent solution,”
Twilight stretched his neck and looked around as they stood in silence. Slowly but surely he was able to move his body and ignore the stinging pain. He was in a cage that would be far too big for him usually, but from what they said it was just about the right size for him now.
Cages surrounded him, most were empty, and some had the usual monsters of his Hyrule. Looks like they didn’t move him from the camp, despite what he did here earlier.
“Why do you want to kill it now? You are the one that suggested to put it in a cage first,” Laven asked, “Ebo was satisfied with keeping it barely alive so he could experiment on it,”
Terea’s fists clenched and unclenched, “.....doesn’t look familiar to either of you? Remember those murals in the castle,”
“Yeah, now that you mentioned it,” Ebo hummed thoughtfully, “It does look extremely similar to that wolf,”
“Did you ever pay attention to something other than your tests?” Laven pointed at Twilight, “That wasn’t JUST a wolf, it was the Divine Beast! Chosen by the Spring Spirits to protect Hyrule just as the hero was,”
“Oh yeah,” Ebo sounded as though he didn’t quite care, “you think it's related to the beast?”
“No doubt about that,” Terea answered shrugging, “I don’t think it is The Beast though, the fur is far too long, perhaps it's the offspring of it,”
So that is the story Zelda told about his wolf form. At least it made him and his wolf form sound like different people. Even more lucky that he decided to grow his hair out a bit, the longer fur definitely hid his identity better than anything else he could have thought of.
“You think if we feed it it will listen to us?” Ebo asked, filled with hope.
“It is an intelligent wolf that isn’t affected by the Zone of course…..” Laven trailed off, staring at the wide awake Twilight.
“Laven?” Ebo, waved a hand in their face.
Laven’s response was to grab Ebo’s face and turn him towards Twilight.
“Oh- Oh!” Ebo ran over, sliding to the door of the cage, “Why hello there erm- Wolf!”
Twilight growled, ignored his aching body, and got up. He was not going to be lying down as they surrounded him.
Ebo was tall and scrawny, not the tallest but still decently tall. He had the rounded ears of a human with brown hair, and pasty pale skin to match. Twilight couldn’t see the color of Ebo’s eyes due to a round pair of glasses resting on a stubby nose.
Ebo was the mage of the group, but yet Twilight has never seen a human use magic before. Nor did he ever hear from anyone of the chain of humans using dark magic.
Terea let out a tired sigh, “Ebo I know you are excited but get away from the beast,”
“Come on it won’t do anything-” Ebo started, sticking his hand in the cage. When Twilight lunged to bite, or at least nip it, Laven grabbed the taller by his shirt collar and dragged him back at the last second.
“You were saying?” Laven asked, faltering slightly, “Why is the mutt looking at me like that?”
Laven was the shortest of the three by at least a foot. This interloper had straight black hair cut off at the chin and the pointed ears of a Hylian. They had tanned scarred skin. Even having one similar to his own from years of having this chain on on their own wrist.
“Maybe stop calling the creepily intelligent wolf a ‘mutt’? It looks like it is covering quickly from its growth spurt too,” Terea said this while walking up to join the other two.
The tallest was obviously the leader of the three. She, unlike her companions, had broad shoulders and muscular arms. She had pale red hair pulled back into a ponytail, and amber eyes that suggested her being Gerudo. Though her paleness, pointed ears, and sharp features suggested she was more Hylian than anything else.
Twilight growled at the three, subtly leaning on the cage to test it. Even with his larger size and enhanced strength the cage didn’t even groan from the test. Which was somewhat lucky as they didn’t suspect a thing.
“My name is Ebo, the red haired one is Terea, and the short one-”
“Are you serious?” Laven protested, while Terea snorted slightly.
“Is Laven!” Ebo finished, undeterred.
Twilight didn’t snarl or growl anymore, but he did glare. They weren’t worth the energy of snarling, but that didn’t mean he was going to allow them near him.
“How long is this going to even last?” Terea asked curiously, bending down to look dead into Twilight’s blue eyes.
This time, Twilight did snarl, hackles raised and all.
“My best guess is a week,” Ebo started fiddling with his clothes absentmindedly, “Something like that, probably less seeing how quickly it happened,”
Twilight lifted a paw up into the air hearing the familiar clacking of metal on metal. Somehow his manacle managed to grow with him. Having an amputated hand due to the stupid thing would not be easy to explain to the others when he got back. Especially without revealing his secret.
“Do you think it's hungry? I doubt there has been much to hunt or eat around here,” Ebo spoke up suddenly.
“Definitely,” Laven nodded.
“Probably has an enhanced metabolism too,” Terea added.
Ebo clapped, making Twilight jerk and growl at the human, “I got it! I will make the potion and spike a slab of meat with it! Eating the potion would definitely be more effective than just pouring it on the beast,”
“Should we really say this in front of the beast? We already agreed it is far too smart for its own good, being related to a goddesses made monster won’t earn us any favors, even with us treating it kindly,” Laven gestured to Twilight.
“Please, the goddesses have never looked down at us with kindness. So what the worst they can do when all they’ve done is ignore us?” Terea looked down at Twilight like he was the scum of Hyrule.
“We all know we should avoid their wrath for this to work,” Laven argued, “Or else that hero will be sent, even if his relationship with the Queen is questionable,”
The tension between the two was so thick Twilight could have cut it with a knife. It looked like this was an often point of conflict between the two as Ebo actually noticed it. Ebo silently sighed as he watched Terea open her mouth to retort.
“I just thought of something!” Ebo interrupted the two with a pointed look, “With the leftover remnants of the potion I can fashion a collar of sorts that will control the wolf while it’s on it!”
“And how long would THAT take?” Terea looked over at the mage.
“Well the potion would be an hour or two once I double check to make sure we have everything,” Ebo started counting on his fingers, “A day or two?”
“Alright well,” Laven took a deep breath, “What monsters are on the agenda today?”
Ebo thought for a moment before groaning, “Bulbins, they are the WORST,”
“Then let’s not do it today,” Terea’s eyes gleamed.
“What?” Laven’s face scrunched up in confusion.
“That would set us behind!” Ebo argued, hands going out to his side.
“It’s late and besides-” Terea grinned, “We have a new beast that will need some opponents tomorrow,”
Ebo started wiggling in place, “Oh! Yes that would be- I need to get everything ready-”
“The potion and meat first?” Laven suggested, as Ebo switched directions to the tent.
“You on patrol while I make sure the monsters won’t escape?” Terea asked as if they didn’t fight mere minutes ago.
“Sure”
Twilight laid back down stiffly. He still ached from that potion that fell on him, and now keeping his muscles tightly bound ready for a fight. But now he had an escape plan, leave while he was out of this cage tomorrow.
The only caveat was escaping the mind control. He never dealt with anything like that during his journey. Surely it couldn’t be too hard to break free.
Twilight watched the three meander around the camp calmly. Ebo was cooking something that smelt rancid from here, he would definitely not be eating that. In fact, despite the gnawing hunger, he wouldn’t eat anything given to him by the interlopers. Not after the conversation he heard.
Later, just as Twilight thought, Ebo brought a slab of meat that reeked of the potion. It smelled of rotten eggs and dark magic. Twilight let out a low growl, pushing the meat as far away as he could. Which in the small cage wasn’t very far.
“Oh come on!” Ebo’s face fell, “Why won’t you eat it?”
“Told ya,” Laven pinched their nose closed, “It knew what we were talking about, even if it didn’t that thing smells awful,”
“I spent hours slaving away-” Ebo started before Terea placed a hand on the other.
“It will eat it eventually. Now come on you both, we will splash some of it on the beast in the morning if it refuses to eat it by morning,” Terea started pulling the other with her, watching Twilight with one eye.
“Oh good idea!” Ebo nodded, “but we might have to do that anyway- the fresher the effect is the better!”
Twilight listened to the three walking back to their own dinner as he pushed his out of the cage. That way he wouldn’t be tempted to eat it in the slightest.
Once it hit the sand Twilight laid his head down in between his paws. At least he could regain some strength via sleep. Maybe the hunger would be better in the morning.
-----------------------------
Twilight woke up to the gentle, familiar sound of an ocarina playing. Time often played it if he was the last one on watch for the night, and, for a moment, Twilight believed he was back with the others. That thought was thrown out the moment he remembered where he was, and the implications of hearing the ocarina could mean.
Twilight opened his eyes and frantically looked around. What greeted him was the golden poe that has been following him since he got back to his world. The music stopped as Twilight stared at the poe flabbergasted.
Shade had to be in his wolf form, being so close to the ground, but Twilight wasn’t sure he wanted to look his mentor in the face. After all, getting captured by the interlopers hurt Twilight’s pride more than he cared to admit.
Though it took only a few minutes of awkward silence before Twilight gave in. Activating his Wolf Sense Twilight came face to face with the Golden Wolf.
The Golden wolf looked vaguely irritated as he snorted at Twilight. Twilight bowed his head sheepishly, looking up to see the trademarked one eyed disapproving stare.
“My child,” The other wolf greeted in a strict tone, “Why are you still here?”
Twilight looked away, “I needed to see what was going to happen- what those elixirs did to me,”
Shade simply growled slowly, no words spoken but Twilight knew that Shade didn’t believe him. No matter what era Time (or Shade) somehow always knew when Twilight was making excuses.
Shade during their training always told him that “excuses blinded you from progress you could make”. It was one of Twilight's more difficult lessons to learn from the spirit. The lesson was even difficult to keep up nowadays.
“I…. could barely get up, much less fight my way out of here. Hell, I am not sure I will be able to tomorrow,” Twilight whined out, both ears pinned back as he glanced back up to his mentor.
In an instant the spirit’s expression softened, “Good, you remember the lessons,”
The golden wolf started to glow and change. There wasn’t a bright light, nor was it an immediate transformation. In fact it was similar to his own relatively slow transformation where you could clearly see the transformation.
As the transformation happened Twilight looked back frantically at the interloper’s tent. Luckily he didn’t hear anything from the tent, nor did he see a lantern get lit. He whimpered slightly remembering how those three needed a soul for whatever they were planning.
“Do not worry about me,” Shade spoke, as if reading Twilight’s thoughts and voice croaking from disuse, “I made my choice,”
Twilight turned his head back around inquisitively to see that Shade had completely changed. Though his form was not one that Twilight had ever seen his ancestor use.
Shade had on his signature helmet, but rather than see the smiling skull Twilight was familiar with he saw a bandana covering the lower mouth, and bandages covering Shade’s empty eye. In fact all of the places where Twilight could originally see bone, or see through the spirit was wrapped up with bandages, like a mummy.
Even the armor was in slightly better condition than what was previously seen by the Orodonian. Shade even had some better chainmail on, making it difficult to see his torso was wrapped in bandages.
Twilight made an inquisitive noise at the poe, but was ignored as Shade directed his attention to the cursed slab of steak. With his gauntlet, Shade picked up the slab as wordless magic covered both the poe and the meat in a blinding glow.
When the light faded Twilight shook his head and whined. It was so bright compared to the eternal twilight his eyes had gotten used to in the zone.
Then slowly but surely Shade placed the slab of meat into the cage silently. Twilight looked up at the red eyed stalfos as sniffed it warrily. What he smelled was not the rotten meat like it was earlier but rather it smelled of home. The Ordon spring, Faron Woods, and his treehouse, it was a welcoming scent compared to the constant and potent smell of dark magic.
Twilight glanced back up at his mentor who was kneeling in front of the cage, one arm resting on his knee, the other hanging by his side. Shade nodded encouragingly at the wolf, wanting Twilight to eat the slab.
After one last test sniff, Twilight dug in. The raw meat somehow tasted fresh and not gritting, despite it being in the sand and outside for hours. At that point hunger took over as Twilight greedily ate every last crumb. It was somehow enough to fill him up, despite the fact he hasn’t eaten in at least a day.
“They are here,” Shade spoke once Twilight had finished.
Twilight looked up and tilted his head while whining. He even looked behind him, but the tent was still quiet with inactivity. Twilight let out a confused noise looking back to Shade, only to feel a gauntlet be placed on his head.
Somehow, Shade’s arm had phased through the bars but still made contact with Twilight. Shade had froze for a moment, eye clearing staring at his hand. Twilight could feel Shade’s hand tentatively move through the fur on Twilight’s head.
Then Shade retracted his hand through the bars seamlessly. Shade’s red eye then focused on his hand as he flexed and clenched it. It was almost like the poe was in a trance, clearly deep in thought with his head tilted to the side.
“Shade?” Twilight asked, voice coming out as a small, confused bark.
That broke Shade out of his trance, dropping his hand back to his side, he then spoke gravely, “I- I am fine pup, THEY are here. You must escape, if not…..”
Shade looked away getting up, “Who knows what will happen to the others,”
The others?! Twilight stood up in alarm. Though he couldn’t talk to the poe anymore as Shade just vanished. Just…. gone, no light or nothing, simply vanished in front of Twilight’s eyes.
Twilight snarled to himself as he flopped back onto the cool ground of his cell. He couldn't escape yet, he needed to see who had the keys. At the very least he needed to get out of this cage. Then to deal with the chain he could get a rock to break it or maybe even the Great Fairy could help him loosen it.
Either way he would have to wait until morning, or the Zone’s equivalent. Then at the first moment he can, he will break free. Causing as much havoc as possible while finding the ‘others’.
Twilight prayed to whatever goddess that was watching him that it wasn’t the other Links. Though the way Shade referred to them, it made him think that he was close to them. Time was counting down, and no matter what, whoever they were, Twilight needed to help them.
Twilight laid down, deciding to get some rest while he can. After all, tomorrow is when he gets out of here.
-------------------------------
“Well I’ll be,” Laven spoke, waking Twilight up, “It actually ate that nasty meat!”
“Hey!” Ebo shouted from near the fire, “I spent hours working on spiking that!”
“Lav don’t be rude,” Terea came out of the tent looking bedraggled, “Ebo it was sitting outside for hours, who knows when the beast actually touched the rotten meat,”
Ebo sent a raspberry to the taller, “It takes longer than a couple of hours for meat to rot! Though now it would be a tad spoiled…”
“How did it even get the meat back to eat it?” Laven brought up, “By the time we went to bed the meat was lying in the sand,”
Twilight decided to only listen to the conversation and feign sleep. He didn’t want to deal with their panic if he so much as looked at Laven wrong again. For some reason yesterday he felt particularly angry, probably that “volatile” thing Ebo mentioned.
“You’re right! Just how did it do that?” Ebo’s voice was right next to the cage.
“Does it really matter?” Terea called out, presumably still from the fire, “As long as that beast is still locked up why should we care?”
“Yesterday you were so determined to find out what it was doing here!” Laven yelled back, “Where was that curiosity and what if someone was here in the middle of the night?”
“A: it is too early to be worrying about that mutt and B: there are no footprints, and we would’ve woken up if someone was here! Those monsters aren’t exactly quiet,” Terea mixed something that sloshed unpleasantly, “Now come over here and eat!”
Laven’s steps walked over to the front of his cage and rattled the door. Twilight, to keep suspicion low, let out a quiet warning growl. The Hylian scoffed before their footsteps retreated back to the campfire and Twilight was left to his thoughts.
Last night's events definitely did happen, the meat and Twilight’s hunger being gone was proof enough of that. Those three had no idea Shade was here, though they were suspicious.
Shade’s soul would probably be perfect for whatever they need one for, and his would look garbage in comparison. Having a soul that has been tainted by dark and Twili magic has made it more resistant to those kinds of spells. Hopefully that means that the mind control will be less effective.
Eventually the three finished eating their breakfast and started to get to work. Twilight watched as they pushed cages from all around the area into a mock arena, his included.
“So, are we ready to start?” Terea asked, now back to their personality from the previous night.
“Not quite yet,” Ebo brought out a flask, rock, and fern from his coat.
After a moment of silence Laven spoke, “Alright I’ll bite, why the rock?”
“It’s a geode first of all,” Ebo split it apart to reveal purple insides, “And secondly, we need to activate the mind control! First I’ll pour some of the spare potion onto the beast, and using the plant and geode I will make basically a controller,”
“Ah,” Terea nodded, “Are we sure we need to use that potion though? We don’t have a lot to spare,”
“It’s better if we have some fresh on him,” Ebo repeated, popping the top off of the flask, “It won’t take much, all I have to do is get it on its fur!”
To prove this Ebo sent the liquid flying out and onto Twilight. He couldn’t even try to dodge it, not with his bigger form and such a small cage. Just like the potion that made him grow, it tingled unpleasantly as it soaked in, but did not start making him ache like the other did.
“It’s…. Oddly docile today,” Laven sounded confused, “It had barely look at us today,”
“I’m guessing the potion made it more aggravated than usual, and this is what it's like most of the time,” Terea answered.
“We also did lock it up,”
“That too,”
“Would you both be quiet!” Ebo glared back at the two, “I have never done this before and I need to concentrate!”
Both fell silent as Ebo started reading from a book, chanting. The tingling got worse, almost like fire ants were crawling up his body and onto his head. Letting out a whine and shaking his head the feeling persisted. Then just as it started it stopped, right when Ebo stopped chanting.
Ebo held up a blackened rock, “There done! With this we will be able to command the wolf to do whatever we please!”
“Is that part of the spell?” Terea pointed at Twilight.
“What?” Laven asked, “I don’t see anything,”
“The beast’s fur is glowing,” Terea informed them, looking suspiciously at Twilight.
Twilight also couldn’t see or feel anything besides a faint warmth in his chest.
“I don’t see anything,” Ebo looked down at his book, “I’m sure it's just a side effect and nothing to worry about!”
“Alright what’s next?” Laven interrupted, "Do I get on top of the cages to release the bokoblin now….?”
“We should test it first,” Terea gestured for Ebo to do something.
“Oh! Right.. Uh-” Ebo floundered for a second, “Wolf, sit!”
Twilight felt his muscles twitch uncomfortably, prompting him to forcibly lean back nearly sitting down in the process. Rather than continuing the motion, he let out a small growl and stood back up and glared at his captors.
“Maybe this time say it like it isn’t a request?” Laven suggested, hand waving in the air carelessly.
“Ok,” Ebo took in a deep breath, “SIT!”
Instantly Twilight felt all of his muscles spasm, making him drop into a sitting position. He couldn't move a muscle, just frozen in place. He could look around frantically as the interlopers seemed to be happy that it actually worked.
“Good job,” Terea slapped Ebo on the back, “Now who should we put it up against first?”
“Uh the bokoblins?” Laven spoke, no longer where Twilight could see them, “Start easy, work to more difficult beasts,”
“I have to agree with Laven. I don’t know how well this will hold up,” Ebo admitted.
“Alright then,” Terea shrugged, “Laven?”
Twilight could hear sharp metallic twangs from Laven’s supposed direction, “On it!”
Terea grabbed keys from her belt, “Make sure that beast doesn’t bite me ok?”
“I don’t think it is going to do anything anytime soon,” Ebo joked as the cage door flung open.
Once Terea was out of the way Ebo ordered Twilight to go forward. Just like before, Twilight couldn’t control himself as his body forced him to go into the arena and sit back down. In front of him a bokoblin was released by Laven, who was balancing on top of the cage bars, somehow unlocking it from up there.
“Ok Wolf FIGHT!” Ebo yelled, blackened stone glittering disgustingly.
Twilight got up, and started circling the bokoblin. He didn’t want to do this, not in the slightest. But that magic forced him to snarl and wait for the bokoblin to strike.
Luckily he didn’t have to wait long as the bokoblin let out a cry and jumped at him. With the ease of years of practice, even in his larger form, Twilight sidestepped the attack and lunged. He got the Bokoblin by the neck, and bit down, snapping its neck and killing it instantly.
At least it didn’t suffer, that much Twilight could control, even if all he tasted was the disgusting monster's blood.
“Did you see that?! It killed it effortlessly! We need to up the difficulty,” Ebo frantically started writing on a clipboard, vibrating in place.
“Lizalfos?” Terea suggested, “those bastards are quick enough it should give it at least some trouble,”
“Good idea!” Ebo chirped before calling out “Laven?”
“On it!” Laven hopped to the cage with a thrashing violent unarmored lizalfos in it.
“Careful!” Terea yelled.
“Yeah yeah,” Laven grumbled, shoving their key into a slot at the top of the cage, opening the door.
A poor design of the cage with an extra unlocking mechanism made the doors far more fragile than what cages were supposed to be. Something that Twilight could definitely use to his advantage later.
This time the monster wasted no time in lunging at Twilight. This time Twilight had no qualms of disposing of the lizalfos early unlike the bokoblin. Everyone from the Chain knows that his bokoblins are perhaps the stupidest of the bunch after all, especially those wielding clubs.
As the Lizaflos leaped into the air Twilight wasted no time in diving under, grabbing the monster by the foot, and slamming it back down. The lizalfos started trying to crawl away, foot now broken and useless, but Twilight simply jumped on the back of the beast, stopping it in its tracks as his claws cut into its flesh easily.
As he went to deal the ‘fatal blow’ Ebo’s voice called out, “Wait- No stop!”
Twilight forcibly froze as the monster under him wiggled. He needed to finish this now before the lizalfos escapes.
“What are you doing?!” Terea hissed.
“That’s our only uninfected Lizalfos! We need it alive!” Ebo then called out again, “WOLF STOP!”
This time though a simple command wasn’t going to stop him as he raised his head back. Only pausing slighting at Ebo’s commands as sunk his teeth into the neck of the beast. It took more effort to crush the neck of this one compared to the bokoblin, but in the end the lizalfos went still.
He hated killing monsters this way. It was gruesome and unhygienic, but it was the only way to kill them quickly right now. Dealing with it just had to be something to come to terms with.
“No….” Ebo whined, “Why didn’t the beast listen….”
“Probably flight or fight response ‘bo,” Terea spoke, voice soothing and low, “You did have the mutt stop while it was on top of the beast. Whatever training it had probably took over and that was that,”
Twilight glanced over his shoulder at the two. While they were right about training, it was more to not repeat past mistakes. He didn’t need any more near fatal encounters with lizalfos in this lifetime.
Twilight’s ear followed the sound of Laven walking to the end of the cages, “Would more power make the spell more effective so that doesn’t happen again? You only used that fern for the energy source,”
“That was just a conduit so it connected the geode to the beast,” Ebo sounded thoughtful, “I suppose I can use what we… collected to put more power in my words,”
“Are you sure about that? You heard the stories about what happened to others trying to wield it,” Terea sounded concerned.
“It should be alright! It's only one spell after all,” Ebo’s hopeful voice echoed.
With his interest now piqued, Twilight turned fully around, only to stop dead in his tracks, blood turning cold. On a necklace, attached by a gold chain that wrapped around was a piece of a dark nearly stone like colored glass.
How did these people manage to get a piece of the Mirror of Twilight?
Thoughts swarmed through his head about the possibilities. Unaware of the fact he started growling, hackles raised as he continued to stare at the piece. Feeling as though an invisible thread was fraying at the edge the longer he stared at it.
“Uh guys?” Laven spoke, Twilight refusing to take his eyes off the shard, “I think we have a problem,”
The other two directed their attention to Twilight. Ebo took a step back, and Twilight mirrored it by taking a step forward, still focused on the shard. Terea grabbed her whip, slowly unraveling it.
“Would you look at that?” Terea smirked cockily, but all Twilight could smell was fear from her, “The beast knows what we have,”
“What should we do?” Ebo asked, not masking his fear.
“You have the rock,” Terea tried to raise an arm, but let it drop as Twilight snarled like a feral beast.
“Careful,” Laven called out from their perch quieting down as Twilight looked towards them, “I don’t think the mutt will be running away anytime soon,”
“B-beast lay down,” Ebo spoke, voice shaking, hand fiddling with the chain.
Twilight lowered ever so slightly, making it look more like he was getting ready to pounce than him laying down. That command was stronger than previous ones, but Twilight wasn’t about to lay down. Not to someone with THAT relic.
“O-oh,” Laven spoke softly, “I can definitely see the glowing now!”
“Shit! Ebo you have to get that wolf under control now!” Terea was no longer hiding how freaked out she was.
Ebo screamed, “WOLF LAY DOWN!”
“Shit…”
The spell hit Twilight like a train. He could feel the corrupting magic of the Shard radiating from here. Though for some reason, the pressure almost immediately lessened to a bearable degree, a warm feeling settling into his bones.
It felt as though that invisible thread snapped violently. Twilight ran at the two, caution gone to the wind, letting out a noise somewhere between a howl and snarl that rattled the cages around him.
“BOTH OF YOU RUN!” Terea screamed, rushing to meet Twilight, whip now fully drawn.
Twilight jumped back to avoid an arrow that Laven shot while yelling, “What?!”
Terea missed Twilight with her whip, “Don’t you see?! This wolf isn’t related to the Divine Beast, it IS the Divine Beast!”
That pause was all Twilight needed to grab onto the whip and pull. Terea didn’t let go, making her lose her balance.
Dropping the whip from his mouth Twilight lunged, grabbing onto her arm. Terea let out a scream of pain trying to shake the hero from her arm. If he was smaller than that surely would have worked, but he was large enough that the action simply made him stand on his hind legs.
Twilight’s blue eyes met Terea’s amber ones. All he could see was fear, and all he could smell was terror and metallic blood. Twilight usually at that point would usually lessen his grip, seeing such a terrified look.
But that didn’t matter to Twilight, all he could feel was rage. Rage at these people for causing this to happen, rage at Shade for giving such cryptic responses, and rage at all that happened to him in the past couple of weeks. At this moment all that anger came to him in one huge addicting rush, and he was going to make the PAY for what they have done.
Twilight broke the staring contest by dropping back down to all fours, once again making Terea off balance. While biting hard enough to keep his fangs deep into the arm, but not deep enough to sever the arm from the body. Twilight used his momentum to fling Terea over his head and into the wall of cages.
“TEREA!” Laven screamed, shooting more arrows at Twilight, all of which were easily dodged.
Terea was out cold from the impact. Twilight shifted his gaze to the archer, head turning slowly. Laven’s eyes widened and Twilight could smell the anxiety and fear increase.
Twilight snarled like a wild animal, as he bashed his side into a cage, allowing the bulbin out. Twilight had no need to kill it, and the Bulbin, even if a little bit infected with twilight, had no reason to attack him.
There was easier prey, and at the current moment, monsters almost saw Twilight as one of them. If not for the rage in his eyes, and the white parts of his pelt glowing then he would look just like them. Just another thing that Twilight would usually kill without another thought.
As Laven ran across the cages towards Terea, Twilight continued to bash in cage doors. Those that tried to kill him swiftly died a bloody death.
Everything became a blood red blur. Lunging at cages, biting, watching, hunting the interlopers. When Twilight gained some semblance of control again, Laven was standing over the limp Terea, bleeding from multiple cuts on their body, and surrounded by monsters looking for easy pickings. Using two daggers to try and keep them at bay.
Twilight huffed, remembering the last of the three. Ebo was all alone, the monsters didn’t know it, but that’s who the easiest prey was.
Twilight let his instincts take control, picking up the scent from among the ruined camp. This one made it far too easy. Ebo stopped in the tent, before taking off. The scent was too fresh. He spent too long in the tent and not enough time escaping him.
He took off running, not letting a second go wasted. Easily dodging past the traps set. Soon he was at the top of a sand dune, looking down at the human scrambling below, unaware how close Twilight is.
Twilight couldn’t help himself. He howled, and did it loudly. Finally he caught the one with the shard. That one caused this, maybe if the caster died or the mirror piece was contained then the zone would fall.
The human looked up and gasped, scrambling more and more, barely getting anywhere. Twilight took his time getting down, savoring the victory. His paws dipped so deep into the sand that his manacle was hidden.
Ebo chanted something, a bolt of black fire shot off. It was easy to dodge as the mage started scooting back, chanting something while holding the shard. He needed to be quick, who knows what spell was being casted.
The sifting of sands to the left of him, made Twilight instinctively duck down. A beast, some flew directly over him, crashing into the sands. Easily pinning the dazed beast with one paw, Twilight looked down briefly at it.
The beast was an adult male lion. Why the fuck was a lion here of all places? This is far from their natural habitat, unless of course it was summoned.
Twilight looked back up to the human mage. Only to find him gone, scent making Twilight believe he managed to teleport away. The few seconds it took for Twilight to pin the lion down, the human managed to escape. The human with the piece of the mirror.
Twilight growled looking down at the panicked blue eyes of the lion. This one had to be a summons, no normal lion would have a mane tinted with blue and silver.
“Wa- wait!” the lion spoke, voice familiar enough that it stopped Twilight dead in his tracks.
“WARRIORS!” Another familiar voice yelled from the top of a dune where the lion came from, the silhouette being that of a wolf.
Time….
Twilight jerked his head back down at the lion, sniffing it to confirm what he just heard. Stumbling off of the lion, all semblance of rage and anger leaked out of him as he starred with horror, knowing what nearly happened to his friend.
“Captain?!”
i watched the first episode of OPLA! and i really enjoyed it!! this is gonna be a long post and there will be SPOILERS for just the first episode of netflix's one piece.
here's what i thought:
-really love the core cast. inaki is a GREAT luffy. he really captures how luffy is both childish and rude and he SELLS it.
-mackenyu is fantastic as Zoro. he has some of the best fight choreography from what ive seen so far.
-i am in love with emily rudd as nami. she is fucjing perfect and i love that they gave her some badass shit to do in the first episode
-koby was great!! i thought he was fun and likable and i sure as fuck hope this show goes on long enough for his return in post-enias lobby.
-fucking HELMEPPO stole the show. he was funny and entertaining to watch and he had some of the sillier bits of the episode. i like that they chose to make him have long hair that gets cut by zoro. also his whole booty cheeks were out while flexing in the mirror with zoro's swords and i thought that was funny.
-they managed to make axe-hand morgan fun! i think he's one of the less entertaining early OP villains but I thought they did a good job with him!!
-i really liked shanks' appearance in this episode. the scenes with him and young luffy hit exactly like they were supposed to!!
-alvida was really fun to watch too!! i'm excited to see how they adapt her later appearances.
-okok i gotta talk about the fight choreography again. this shit was GOOD. i mean actually good. i feel like in a lot of shows in the recent past, fight choreo has gotten.. lazy? what i mean is that in this show the hits FEEL like they're hitting. and that is a compliment of the highest regard. luffy's fighting style is well adapted (and i will GET to his devil fruit in a moment) zoro's 3 sword style was both well choreographed and utilized within the scenes it was needed. i love how they play with it a little bit, not having him use all three until the climax of the episode. NAMI has some fantastic shit with her staff and i'm genuinely so glad they dont have her basically sidelined until alabasta like they do in the manga. alvida and morgan both have their weapons have true weight that you can feel to them and i'm so glad. this was the thing i was the most concerned for and its safe to say i'm happy with it.
-luffy's gum gum fruit and the cgi used for it was surprisingly good!! going into live action with a main character made of rubber is one of the most difficult things CG artists have to deal with and i hope they know how fucking good rhey did. body stretching hasn't ever looked this good.
-i liked garps inclusion and i really hope they don't reveal that he's related to luffy until way later. i get the feeling they might since he's there and i think he's going to still be important throughout the season.
-i LOVE. and i mean LOVEEEEEEEEEE that they are already setting up for season 2 mentioning baroque works so much. that shit is fucking AWESOME and i couldn't be happier that they're going ahead and foreshadowing shit for later that is amazing and i'm so damn happy.
-the setwork and costume design are FANTASTIC. the atmosphere becomes amazing because of these two things in conjunction and its fucking great. you absolutely are pulled into the world and its amazingly believeable. everything feels real. the locals, the outfits, really theres some great shit in here so far and i am DAMN excited to see more. they truly went all out and it feels fantastic.
-this show is really funny. not exactly in the way that the anime is, but in a way that works a lot better for this medium. zoro, especially, i thought they really nailed on the head. he's funny!! and luffy is too!! so is nami!! they're all really funny and entertaining to watch and i just cant believe this show exists at all.
-buggy showed up and i'm so excited to see more of him. what a god of a man. he is. kinda bad asf too.
i have one or two critiques too!!
-i liked the original way of making it known that koby wasnt working with luffy and i think its a bit lame the rest of the marines aren't shown to be glad that morgan's gone.
-theres some camera work in this show that just seems,... off? theres these closeups with a shitton of gaussian blur and it just looks. unprofessional to say the least. luckily, its not completely like this (which is kinda what i thought the show would look like at first, which had a bit of apprehension in me.)
-i just realized they didnt show shanks' arm being cut off by the sea monster. i'm sure they will but they didnt here. i sure hope they do that shits an iconic scene.
-uh. that was pretty much it. netflix was being stupid as shit for me so i didnt really get hd quality but i was watching it on netflix party w my girlfriend and it was just so exciting that i didnt really care. but fuck netflix btw.
so, pretty much, you might get the jist that i'm enjoying this show, and i am!! its honestly hitting all the marks i was hoping it would and a lot more. i love that its a show that knows what its doing. it doesnt feel lost. it feels like its confident in itself and its production. i really hope its a hit, and i sure as fuck HOPE netflix doesnt drop it if it doesnf make a gazillion dollars. i'm not religious but i'll pray for that.
Day 5 - From Austria to Slovakia
My original plan was to get from Vienna to Bratislava by ferry on the Danube, but it's quite expensive and with this weather it doesn't feel like it's worth it, so instead I'll go by train (I'm a little sad because I've been anticipating this particular bit of travel a lot, but I think it's for the best).
I still have some time left in Vienna, so I go to the Naschmarkt (yes, it's another market XD but this one has borek!), and then to have some coffee and cake in a proper viennese cafè.
Tumblr media
The cake was ok if too sweet and the coffee was terrible, but the experience was worth it.
It's very, very, very windy and pretty cold, but it only rains a little bit every once in a while, so that's good. Also I finally managed to capture the genius design of the ashtrays on the bins:
Tumblr media
As a last stop I go to the Belvedere palaces and gardens, and they're pretty nice (also there are A LOT of statues in the garden XD).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is the central train station so far from the city center? Like, far far. Also, I was hoping for a real, pretty and possibly gigantic train station and instead it's another modern boxy one (not a fan of Austrian station design so far).
Tumblr media
The train ride is ok, I wonder if the boat ride along the Danube would have actually be more scenic or just on water (the Danube has been quite underwhelming in most of the places I've been XD).
It's still cloudy when I arrive in Bratislava, but after a bit THE SUN COMES OUT! And it stays out, even if the sky is a little cloudy, for hours! I am so very happy!
Tumblr media
Bratislava has such a different vibe, it's crazy how close it is to Vienna and how different it can be. It's very small (well, the old town/city center is small, the city is probably quite big) and not one but grandiose. Feels very cozy after three days in Vienna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm unsure what to do for dinner. I'm not particularly hungry and I feel like I need a break from the good but heavy food I had for the past days. One of the things I regretted not doing while in Austria was trying Thai and/or Vietnamese food, since it was much more ubiquitous than in Italy, but luckily the situation is similar here and I end up finally trying pho :D (of course I cannot vouch for the authenticity of a pho eaten in Vietnamese/sushi restaurant in Slovakia, but it was really good anyway!)
Since the new live action Avatar is apparently out on netflix, I figured now is an excellent time to remember the last attempt at a live action this series got.
Tumblr media
Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most beloved TV shows of all time, with amazing writing, world-building, and characters. Conversely, The Last Airbender (no avatar in this title) is one of the most detested and worst movies of all time. I doubt that I have anything new to say about it because it has been getting dragged since it was released 14 years ago, but that won't stop me from dragging it some more.
As is the trend with many live action reboots, this movie hates fun. The original show was colorful, funny, and charming; the movie is none of those things. The color palette seems to have been taken directly from a Saw movie, with not a warm tone to be found. For comparisons sake, here's a side by side of the gaang from the movie and from the original:
Tumblr media
Isn't it incredible how they managed to sap all the color out of the original character designs?
One of my favorite things about the original cartoon was the expressive animation. I don't expect a live action movie to have expressive animation, but I do expect expressive acting, or even just regular acting. Unfortunately for myself and the world at large, the main actors did not get the memo that they were supposed to do that, so instead they delivered their dialogue stone faced with weird pacing. I don't want to hate on the actors too much, as many of them were children when this movie was released, and who knows what sort of direction M. Night Shyamalan gave them. However, I will say that with maybe the exception of Dev Patel, who played an okay Zuko, the cast did an awful job of capturing the magic of the original characters. I am willing to give a pass to Seychelle Gabriel, because she voiced Asami in The Legend of Korra, and I am nothing if not an Asami supporter. But the rest of the cast is on very thin ice.
Another fun thing about this god-forsaken movie is the way it manages to make the viewer feel incredibly uncomfortable. It has an aura about it that I can only describe as constipated. The feeling I got watching is reminiscent of the time I was roped into listening a coworker at McDonalds talk about his crypto scheme, except that only lasted about 15 minutes, and the movie is 103 minutes long.
Truly the only good quality of the movie is its ability to bring together so many people in hatred. There aren’t too many things we can all form a near-universal opinion on, but we can all agree that this movie is a dumpster fire.
Unlike some of the other movies I have hated on this blog, I don’t think it is controversial for me to hate this one. It has already been so thoroughly hated on that all the points I make here are hardly likely to be original. Regardless, I felt it necessary to kick this dead horse, both for the opportunity to complain (one of my favorite activities), and because I need to choose one movie to hate per week for the class this blog is for, and this one is so so hateable. I didn't even list everything wrong with it and this post is already so long.
I haven't watched the new live action show yet, and I don't really have high hopes, but given how low the bar is, it would have to limbo into hell to disappoint me.
“Well I didn’t expect you to find your way out so soon, Shane.”
INTRODUCING THE SCUM BAG VILLAIN WHO REPLACES DR.BLAKK IN THIS AU IS- An oc🗣
Okay so jokes aside, mostly 2 villains take the role, Expect the main one who does it all is Arachnis. Blite actually takes the second Villain role, I tried my best not to give arachnis to much edgy vibes and make him like a normal villian in slugterra, that takes place of dr.Blakk instead, so sorry if his design is too much-😭 I tried to be original with it- his name is given due to him having moslty arachnet’s as his Ammo
Will makes his way out the deep caverns, thinking he’s free and can return to slugterra and go see his son and Dr.Blakk again, unfortunately, only greeted by two familiar faces, waiting for him, maybe he’s not as free as he thought.
LORE/EXPLANATION
So Will spends about a year in the deep caverns barely surviving, Ill from the dark water energy, and of course malnourished and weakened, barely escaping the dark bane’s clutches, he manages to finally find a way out, in my au, there’s a secret passage between the 99 caverns and dark caverns, that not even the dark bane know about and it’s very hard to find. Though Arachnis knows about it, he always goes to see if will escaped yet, wanting to create that false hope for Shane that he isn’t so safe, making sure to bring a guest who despises the Shane’s,specifically, blite.
Now for arachnis and blite.
Arachnis lore I’ll just keep small for now, and maybe explain in later posts or artworks, but all you need to know is he was power starved, all of his life, he was failing at everything, his parents only complimenting and seeing false potential in him out of pure pity, which made him furious, he always out there, trying to find something to live for, to do, experimenting and such, he accidentally experiments with dark water, and it creates a small explosion instead of a portal to the dark caverns where he loses his eye, and his skin is infected with it, causing his small appearance. He has a need for power, but not just for slugterra, anything, he wants to feel like he’s the one in control of anything, so it doesn’t matter if he takes control of slugterra or not, as long as he feels like he’s in control, he loves everything.
And that’s unfortunately where Will falls into place, when he captures him after his escape from the deep caverns.
Arachnis also manages to free blite from the cavern of time, in promise to basically torment Will shane, which blite immediately agrees on, while still being free, but managing to keep low to not be caught again, Because arachnis alerts him that dr.Blakk is still around protecting with Eli Shane and his gang.
Arachnis also manages to make his own version of a ghoul, a ghouled Arachnet.
did you have the opportunity to see come fall in love / the ddlj musical? do you have any Specific Thoughts?
call me crazy for NEVER checking my inbox but haha HERE WE ARE A YEAR LATER I JUST SAW THIS BUT I WILL NEVER PASS UP AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT COME FALL IN LOVE, NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT IT AND ITS A CRIME BC I SWEAR YALL WILL SOON
I somehow got lucky enough to see it twice and I absolutely loved it!! I'm coming from the background of not having seen ddlj before the musical, which I liked since I didn't have any expectations for the story and I thought it was really well done. Also, for context, I'm white so I'm coming from an outsider's perspective on that side too. Now having seen the movie (several times) I can say that I think they did a pretty good job of staying faithful to the heart of the story while updating it for a new audience (but nostalgia is hard to beat, and they definitely fell victim to changing random things that lovers of the original may not like). I loved the show so much that not only did I go back and see it AGAIN but it inspired me to watch ddlj, fall in love with it, and in turn introduced me to a lot more films that i wouldn't have thought to see otherwise.
Also: the songs were SO GOOD. They still get stuck in my head a year later. Party and Spend Daddy's Money is my JAM. I CRIED when I realized how long it would be before a cast album.
And ofc I HAVE to talk about the sets/props. It was absolutely beautiful and such good design. I used to stage manage, and the amount of props that would come on and off stage for five seconds in a single song, NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN, gave me a heart attack. Where were they keeping that boat? The BEAR?? THE VESPAS???? I was DAZZLED.
And finally I have to talk about the cast because they frickin KILLED IT. Shoba obviously was amazing, and I think the perfect person to embody this new version of Simran (a bit more nerd-working-on-her-thesis-about-love-at-harvard). And this show also introduced me to Austin Colby (he's in Great Gatsby rn actually!) who obviously had big shoes to fill and was a controversial choice. But five seconds into his performance I can say with all honesty that he was an incredible Rog (not Raj this time) and instantly became one of my favorite performers. Austin perfectly captured Rog's charisma, humor, and heart. And you could see that he put EVERYTHING into it. The ensemble was just as energetic, and I would be remiss not to highlight Jack Sippel, whose hotel sequence (where he changed costumes behind a desk in rapid succession, embodying a completely new and hilarious character every time) got the whole audience roaring with laughter.
That was a lot longer than intended but...I loved this show?!? And no one else is talking about it so...
The Old Globe is working on transferring to New York, but they haven't been able to find a theater yet. I have my suspicions that Chopra's reimagining of Raj/Rog as white may have doomed them from the beginning, but I really hope not. I just hope everyone gives this show, and Chopra's reimagined story, a chance because I truly think it could be a fan favorite. The next legally blonde perhaps??
