Gintama Headcanons:
Love. Well, damn, shit, fuck, Hijikata recognizes it like an old enemy that he thought he finished off several seasons ago, back again like hell hath no fury; Teito is, more or less, in an even more difficult position— he has no idea what he's even up against, staring at this new, unfamiliar budding feeling straight in the eye, and on the most instinctual level, he knows he doesn't deserve any part of it.
Neither of them wants it. Well, that not true is it? Every fucking lie is just a mirror hiding the plain truth. They can't want it. Hijikata can't go through it again, no fucking way, he knows how his stories end. Teito thinks he's something like damaged goods. How can you give someone a mistake and ask them to love it back? He can't.
It doesn't matter how you tilt your lovely upturned face at them, or how your smile warms their soul, or how your voice cradles their ears, or how endearing your quirks are, or how they think about you every last distracting minute of the day. They've already got it in their heads that they know how badly it'll end, that they know what's best for you.
But as much as they're fighting themselves over this, they recognize it the other like comrades. They see how the other looks at you, the longing so bald and miserably concealed.
And y'know what the most stupid thing about all of this? What they see in each other, what they know and discovered through the years of working together and having each other's back through thick and thin like blood brothers— what they can't see in themselves is precisely what the other knows would be right for you.
The loyalty and strength and kindness in Hijikata... the respect and responsibility and honesty in Teito... you deserve someone like him.
And so, Hijikata practically throws Teito on you. Patrols that coincide with your daily schedule. Missions that involve him escorting you to dangerous places like the grocery store or great heavens, your front door. Doesn't matter that barking those orders feels like gravel on open wound. Doesn't matter that seeing you together makes him smoke enough to kill a small country.
And Teito practically sings praises about Hijikata to you (praises that might or might not be a tad bit exaggerated). Encouraging you to take gifts to the surly vice-commander, rebuffing any doubts that the man would hate it, ah but how could he ever hate anything that comes from you? No, he would surely treasure it. Never mind that Teito feels more twisted than his beaming mouth suggests. Never mind that each time he's reminded of your presence of Hijikata's person, that it feels like he's slipping off.
Both men, these two stupid, overcomplicated men. Someone needs to shake some sense into their damn heads.
And poor you, who has to endure this strange and confusing episode of being passed back and forth like a ping pong ball, by these two men who won't, can't make their intentions clear.
It's the most frustrating thing, when the answer is so obvious.

After the fire and bandit incident, with Tamegorou no longer fit to be the head of the family, the other siblings fought for the inheritance and only stopped when two of the siblings were killed by Yoshimasa who later died in prison
When Tamegrou died, the family was later survived by Daisuke, Futaba and Toshi
Later on in life, Toshi reconciled with Daisuke and Futaba who have long since became better people and earned Toshi's forgiveness for the way they isolated him in the past

See, I view him as a possessive type of person. we seen evidence throughout this with the show so I declared this Canon practically.
Because of his possessive nature, He would love seeing you in his clothes.
He views it as the ultimate sign of you being his and his only. He getting so much pleasure from it.

Toshirou Hijikata
You have never seen this man more red in the face than you that day.
The moment he see you putting on the f8nal pieces of his uniform and process what happening, he turns his head so fast and walks out
You might think he did that because he didn't want to see you or he didn't like what you're doing but it the exact opposite
He absolutely loves seeing you in his clothes but he doesn't want to look bad in front of you and he didn't tryst his voice not to Crack at the moment so he walked away
He was later found screaming in his mayo pillow
Just like kondo, he heard of partners doing this and like it but never experience it before.
So when he sees it for the first time, it caught him off guard and filled him with a joy he doesn't understand
Questioning everything like 'why do I like this? Why is this filling me up with pride and joy? Why they look so cute?'
He wants to tell you how good you look but he too embarrassed to say anything.

The dynamic between Tsukuyo and Hijikata would've been so great because they're essentially two workaholics who don't know how to relax. Well, to be fair, we see Hijikata doing silly things more often, but that could've also been used to create funny situations.
I can imagine them not trusting each other at first; Hijikata, on the one hand, because ninjas have a reputation for being untrustworthy, and Tsukuyo, on the other hand, because the Shinsengumi serves the Shogun and we all know the awful things the politicians did in Yoshiwara.
But ultimately, after getting to know one another, I think they would've a lot of reciprocal respect, especially since they can relate to their codes of honor and serve another person out of admiration and gratitude.
Still, since they're both law enforcers, I can picture them arguing over their jurisdiction, who can have some cases and who can catch certain criminals, in order to create a playful banter and comical storylines.

Hijikata Tōshirō
➵ At first, Hijikata might be a bit taken aback by his partner's sudden displays of affection. He's used to being the one in charge and doesn't always know how to respond when someone shows him kindness. But deep down, he appreciates the attention and secretly enjoys the feeling of his partner's fingers running through his hair.
➵ Hijikata might try to hide his softer side from his partner, but Gintoki sees right through him. Whenever Hijikata's partner scratches his head, Gintoki can't help but tease him about it. "Looks like you're getting soft, Hijikata-kun," he'll say with a grin. Hijikata will scowl and tell him to mind his own business, but he secretly likes the attention.
➵ At times, Hijikata's partner might catch him off guard by being more cuddly than usual. Hijikata is used to being alone and doesn't always know how to react when someone wants to be close to him. But he's secretly grateful for the companionship and will let his guard down when he feels comfortable around his partner.
➵ When his partner scratches his head, he might let out a soft sigh of contentment. It's a small gesture, but it means a lot to him. He'll lean into their touch and close his eyes, letting himself relax for a moment. But he'll never admit how much he enjoys it, not even to himself.

"I'm not enjoying anything," he said, but you could hear the smile in his voice.
After a few minutes, you stopped scratching his head and instead wrapped your arms around him, pulling him close. He tensed up at first, but then relaxed into your embrace.
"What are you doing?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Just cuddling," you said, burying your face in his neck. "Is that okay?"
"I guess," he said, but you could tell he was secretly enjoying it. He wrapped his arms around you and held you close, his chin resting on the top of your head.
For a while, you just sat there in comfortable silence, enjoying each other's company. Then, Hijikata broke the silence.
"Thank you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"For what?" you asked, looking up at him.
"For... this," he said, gesturing to your embrace. "I... I appreciate it."
You smiled at him and leaned in for a kiss, which he eagerly returned. As you pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours.
"Don't tell anyone about this," he said, but you could tell he was joking.
"Your secret is safe with me," you said, grinning at him.
As you settled back into your cuddle, you could feel Hijikata's breathing start to slow down and even out. You knew he was falling asleep, but you didn't want to disturb him. You stayed there, wrapped up in each other's arms, until you both fell asleep on the couch.
Kamui

Gintoki snorted. "Yeah, right. As if I need that kind of weakness in my life."
You shook your head, still smiling. "You're not weak, Gintoki. You're one of the strongest people I know. And everyone needs a little love and affection sometimes."
Gintoki didn't respond, but you could see a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. You continued to scratch his head in silence, enjoying the warmth and intimacy of the moment. You smiled, kissing the top of his head. "Of course, Gintoki. I'll always be here for you."
Gintoki didn't respond, but you could feel him snuggling closer to you, his body warm against yours. You continued to stroke his hair, feeling a sense of contentment wash over you. Even though Gintoki was a tough and sarcastic person on the outside, you knew that.

You and Hijikata met when you were working at the small restaurant right around the corner. He frequented it all the time because of the homey, cozy feel that the restaurant had, which he definitely appreciated after being bombarded with his shinsengumi force partners' incompetence all day. He also did not mind ample servings of his favorite condiment, mayonnaise, and a certain waitress that he took a liking over the course of his many visits.
After he eventually worked up the courage to ask you out, you two quickly took a liking to each other's company, and grew comfortable around each other. However, there was one thing that piqued your interest.
His concerning mayonnaise addiction.
You took notice of it the day you made him a plate of chicken parm for date night, and he took out a whole tub of mayonnaise, piling dollops upon each other on the dish, resulting in an absolute monstrosity. You were almost offended but you loved him too much to be.
"This tastes impeccable, thank you love." His plate was almost clean. "You mean with or without the excessive mayonnaise?" you nudged his shoulder, teasing him. "I mean... I'd have loved it either way, I do love my mayo though."
You also noticed how he'd order a truckload of mayonnaise when he ordered his bowls of rice before you started dating. Putting two and two together, you concluded that he must've been eating his rice with an ungodly amount of mayonnaise.
Ever since then, you've been incorporating the condiment in the meals you'd make for him, and he always subtly expressed his gratitude. Time had flown by and you came to the realization that your one year anniversary was approaching, so you had to get your gears turning to think of something special.
Hijikata was a simple man, and for that, you were grateful. You shouldn't have been racking your brain trying to think of what to do for him, but you were too much of a perfectionist to give it a rest. Then it dawned upon you.
You just had to make him his special dish that he, oh, so loved. He didn't crave anything Michelin-star levelled, or anything crazy fancy. All he would yearn for is his simple bowl of seasoned rice and mayonnaise, and you figured it was a good idea to make him just that.
You planned on surprising him with the...revolting dish when he came back from a shinsengumi meeting, and you did.
He came home to the inviting aroma of your scented sage candle, and a dimly lit room with the inviting dish set on the small dining table you two shared. You were clad in the flowy little black dress that he loved on you, and had our hair in an updo.
"Well? Do you like the set-up?"
He slowly started making his way towards you, opening his arms wide open to engulf you in an embrace. "I love it." He softly said, whispering in your ear.
The dish caught his eye, and his eyes lit up. He then immediately got to digging. Hijikata really appreciated how thoughtful and observant you were, because he often had trouble expressing his feelings and emotions, and often came off as unpleasant or aloof. So you being able to pick up on the small things and take note of what he loves is something he will always be grateful for.

warning: it doesn't get nsfw but the theme of poly relationship might trigger some? idk im insensitive and nothing bothers me lol
Hijikata and Gintoki in a poly relationship actually sounds like the funniest thing ever, as well as a recipe for disaster.
They are both the kinda guys who aren't overly open about their emotions and only truly open up after they put some time and commitment in a relationship.
I wouldn't be surprised if in their attempt of keeping things casual, they ended up in an open type relationship with someone. Like you know, casually dating and seeing the girl without putting a ring on it.
After all, if they really are to give their heart to someone, then they'd better get to know them first before making up their mind. That's their reasoning, but in reality, they are just too tsundere to admit how whipped they are this early on.
Naturally, their S.O. ended up misunderstanding their intentions and while she was dating one, she found herself dating the other, which isn't surprising if one considers their similarities.
She was upfront about two-timing, just not quite as to who that other person was. Neither Gin nor Toshi were particularly elated over the news, but what could they do? It was their fault for not being clear from the get-go.
To get out of this mess, they would both wanna meet the other person, thinking that if she got to compare the two of them, then she'd obviously know who the better pick is and choose them. They are competitive like that though this was no competition, not when the winner was predetermined.
Or so they thought... until they got to see who the other guy was.
Oh man, their faces! Their initial reaction would be to excuse themselves for sitting at the wrong table, only to come back a minute later completely aggravated.
"Oi, Y/N, why is that mayo freak with you? Did you commit a crime or something?"
"The only one committing crimes here is you, Jouishishi. Y/N, don't tell me you are acquainted with this sugar maniac."
Lots of growling, glaring, collar grabbing and near fist fighting would ensue, until you step up and properly introduce one another as your boyfriends.
This is a literal nightmare for them. Having to politely sit by your side without having at each other's throats for once is enough to kill them, yet they both tolerate one another.
Perhaps after they order their food, they each try to feed you some of it in an attempt to assert dominance and be "cute". But even that turns into a contest over whose special you prefer, spoons of mayo and anko flying past your lips one after the other.
In the end, you ended up throwing up, calling it quits for the day. They both felt bad, even if their first instinct was to blame the other for shoving unhealthy things in your mouth, until eventually, they realized that this wouldn't do. If you were to be happy, then they both needed to work together.
And so, the preferred ,be it intolerable route, was settling with dating you at once.
Of course things weren't that easy and they both had ulterior motives. Instead of opening up about their feelings and requesting exclusivity, they'd prove to you how lame the other was. A direct comparison would easily show who the better choice was and that's how they started putting forth their best selves.
Gin would take you on rides around town with his scooter, share his parfait with you and even save enough money to take you on a proper date rip paying rent. He'd try to refrain from picking on his nose and being improper, showing you how charming he could be if needed.
Toshi would take you on dates to the movies, barely catching that late night screening with you (his work habits could get in the way of your schedule), share his mayo and even cook for you. He's the type to bring flowers and act romantic when he wants to, so expect him to be extra gentle and thoughtful while trying to impress you.
Dating the two would be a blast, considering how they each showed a side of them they don't regularly show to others. It would make each moment feel special, though the same can't be said about the time you get to spend together as three.
Most likely they would avoiding the other person's presence, settling for the few unfortunate run ins around town. If they meet one another, they "not so casually" ask how you guys are doing, trying to evaluate their own progress. Of course they both overreact and end up making things look bigger than they actually are.
Gin could claim that you have gotten intimate with one another, even if that's a blatant lie. Hijikata would probably panic and exaggerate things himself as well, hinting at a wild sexual adventure you never had. The result would lead to them being jealous over stuff that never happened, each pushing towards the consummation of your relationship.
This is where I have to mention that I don't see either of them willingly partaking in a fully functioning poly relationship. Other than their little competition over who gets to win the girl, they wouldn't stand for their woman sleeping with the other.
As Gin stated in Patriot Reunion Arc, he isn't a fan of the whole Eskimo Brothers concept. If he found out Hiji and you slept together, he'd probably never speak to either one of you again and the same goes for Hiji. It is a red flag for both.
Okay maybe they wouldn't want to speak to you or the other guy, but you must know that if you ever found yourself in a trouble and came to them, or they just so happened to be passing by, they'd still put their life in the line to save you. Just because things are over, it doesn't mean they don't care about your wellbeing, and would probably think of you from time to time even if they act as if they don't.
In the end, the one who gets to sleep with you first, will be the ultimate winner. Neither of them would choose to go on after being aware of the fact and would terminate the relationship. They are too prideful to keep on chasing after someone who's already made their decision.
Now if you ask me who gets to win, that entirely depends on you. Either Gin or Toshi would make great partners, emotional baggage or not. They'd go on great extends to protect you and would make sure that as long as you are around, there is always a smile upon your lips.
Just make sure you don't end up breaking either one's hearts. Even if they never admit it, their feelings for you are legitimate and precious to them.

- A cuddling session with Hijikata is pretty rare. It’s not that he doesn’t like it -he, in fact, loves it- it’s because he is always working or has too much pride to ask for it.

SAKATA GINTOKI HC: ORIGINS & PARENTAGE
Loosely based on the Kintarou myths & RL history:
For the longest time, Gintoki didn't know who his parents were until he had help from Hijikata in unearthing his origins
soon they discovered that Sakata Gintoki is the only son to Takasu Kaidounosuke & Takasu Yaehisa. That both of his parents were of the merchant class within Edo's old caste, a family of wood carvers who were originally from Kyoto
Gintoki's parents decided to move after a family quarrel with Yaehisa’s greedy & bitter older brother who was looked over by Yaehisa’s father to give the family business to Kaidounosuke when he married into the family
Not wanting anyone to inherit the family business & knowledge, the brother sent people to kill Gintoki's parents. While Kaidounosuke succeeded in defending his pregnant wife, he was killed by the hired help
Once Yaehisa escaped, she hid herself at Mount Ashigara
To avoid attention & capture, Yaehisa gave birth to Gintoki in the pools of Yuuhi Waterfall & died shortly after when the stress of being hunted, grief and childbirth caught up to her
unknown to Yaehisa, the source for Yuuhi Waterfall is an altana spring which is one of the main contributors to Gintoki's stronger than average physiology along with his father’s physique
