These are my old designs for my HermitCraft x Amphibia AU on Twitter! I redesigned some of them into axolotls to make things more even so some of these may be a bit outdated :D

Hermitphibia AU.

Tango has the passive ability to choose to teleport to Skizz whenever he senses Skizz doing something sort of stupid unintentionally.

The origin of this ability's irrelevant, though speculation ranges from some sort of blood pact to Impulse having arranged a spell when Skizz joined the Hermits to make sure his best friend had someone watching his back.

No matter the truth, both Skizz & Tango have always been jokingly coy about the specifics with other Hermits.

What's clear, though, is that over time as Skizz learnt more & more of the unspoken "rules", that little itch in the back of Tango's mind spiked less & less often, til Skizz needing to be mildly sassed became a rarity, & Tango would instead just trek over to his base more often than not to sass him anyway.

One of the first things Tango does on arriving in Amphibia - isolated from every other Hermit - is reach for that connection, & he finds nothing, even as he sits and waits for a spike. Naturally, if Skizz is as lost & confused as he is right now, there's bound to be an itch sooner or later. And even once he snaps back afterward, he'll know where Skizz is so they can regroup.

But no matter how long he waits, the itch - that mental tug - never comes.

Not during all the time he spends on his own.

Not after he reunites with other Hermits in Newtopia.

Not even when he helps Zed summon Impulse and the pair suggest things he's already tried to bridge the link.

And then Tango notes that many other Hermits' esoteric abilities are either weakened or outright suppressed by some unknown force, & it clicks for him why he can't reach Skizz.

So, reluctantly, Tango mentally shelves the itch & the present members of ZITS resolve to find their missing man another way.

Fast forward a while, & there's srill no luck. Unlike other Hermits, there's been no evidence of where Skizz is.

Understandably, everyone's feeling a little hopeless on that front.

And then, for the first time, Tango happens to be present when Anne's then still largely unstudied calamity powers flare for a moment.

To the outside, it appears as if Tango's eyes widen in shock for a second before the guy just blinks out of existence entirely.

Inside his mind, Tango feels several months of undelivered misteps & panics bombard his thoughts all at once, finally allowed through a tiny gap in the Guardian's lockout. Without hesitating, he reaches for his friend...

Several moments later, Anne's flare up passes & Tango reappears, his face suddenly set with determination.

"I know where Skizz is."

Hermitcraft Amphibia AU is quite possibly my favourite thing ever now.

This doesn't effect the hermitphibia au at all, if anything it's a quirk of either Actualization or Deification and it's effects on a deity's Player incarnation (Player Avatars? Pearl introducing herself as that might actually make Mr. Boonchuy go catatonic,) but I've been watching through alot of Empires lately and, while The mother of Sunflowers is the goddess of a number of things (sunflowers, agriculture, war, a psychopomp, fate, reincarnation, burials, and basically the entire afterlife,) she seen isn't a Goddess of the moon until Gem established the sun religion and outlawed her worship, siting 'Moon' in Pearl's name as evidence that the goddess Sausage said she resembled was actually a demonic figure, and Sanctuary adopted the moon imagery when they imported sun worship but without the demonic aspects. I haven't gotten to Gem's perspective on it yet, but my understanding of the sun religion is that it focusses on a battle between light and darkness with 'darkness' being monsters, particularly phantoms, and skulk, and Pearl being a goddess of the moon in their cosmology makes her goddess of those as well. I don't Gem intended it, or realized there was any actual connection to a random world's ancient goddess and her friend when she did it, but it appears I undersold Pearl in my werewolf ask, and she's far more dangerous feral then we gave her credit for.

Well, the universe/multiverse sees itself as the "short/long dream of the game/life", so perhaps Papa Boonchuy can be calmed by that being the "main reason" Players are called Players.

As for Pearl's feralness... The Moon satanic aspect Gem unwittingly inferred exists may not impact too much on Hermitphibia, but it sure as hell colours how quickly she goes off the rails, both in the Life Series & here in Amphibia. :(

Btw, I've been working to flesh out characterization and worldbuilding for the Player Culture AU but, due to that technically being a mostly completely seperate AU from Hermitphibia, I'm probably only going to update you where it's relevant as to not flood your inbox with unrelated lore. I've been mostly going through SMP's to see if they have anything lore relevant and seeing where it would apply.

So anyway, Pirates SMP Scar is almost explicitly HC8 Scar and also shares the name of his previous sailing ship with New life!Scar's plane and I think The Hermatrix may have done essentially the same thing to the Hermits' memories The Core did to Marcy's memories to ensure they were for the most part versions of themselves that wouldn't catch on to being in a simulations, with the exceptions of Doc and Ren, who were made into versions of themselves that would catch on quick. Yes, this is rather the big assumption to make based just on Scar having continuity, but it's either this or decanonising The Hermatrix.

It also goes to explain some of Season 8's weirdness as a whole and opens the season's lore up to be used again... just not in it's surrounding context. Mumbo is probably a formless shapeshifter with half a soul, but it probably isn't Grian's and he's probably been that way since before joining Hermitcraft. The reason The Hermatrix accounted for Pearl's connection to the moon is because of the subconscious memories she still had but hadn't recalled. Impulse eats rocks because he both is and isn't a dwarf due to existing in like two or three points of his life simultaneously. Pearl's megabyte resembles the human settlement in S9 because, well,

Tl;Dr: either The Hermatrix is explicitly noncannon or it was fucking with the hermits' memories to make them relive moments of their pasts because otherwise I can't see how the entrepreneur who traveled by wagon went on to become a pirate and possibly later an air pilot.

Also Pirate!Scar's pirate hat is in Scar's room in Scarland and Pilot!Scar's head is in Cub's meuseum if I'm remebering correctly, both shown in Sausage's world tour.

(Glad to hear your culture interpretation's going well. Always interested to hear about it in relation to the Hermitphibia AU.)

I like the idea that the Hermatrix fundamentally shifted the Hermits' inherent selves to keep them safe (& that it echoes Marcy in canon/False in the AU), though I imagine its less making them different in personality & more unconsciously nudging them away from certain lines of thought they'd usually have.

The idea that this process embellishes or reinterprets certain traits of each Hermit is fun, too.

I don't know if some of the specific interpretations line up with the way I view things, though, but lets work through them one at a time:

Scar's timeline in my mind happens as released & I don't think too much Hermatrix shifting would be needed, nor would it be non-canon. The Hermits take on personas all the time (RenTheKing, etc.), & Scar of all people is very inclined towards that.

I don't know where the interpretation of Mumbo as a half-soulless shapeshifter comes from (aside from the potato thing, maybe), but I'm not sure if I buy it over, say, the view of him as a vampire. I'd be interested in hearing more, though.

Pearl's connection to the moon in the sim - name aside - stemming from her past lives is something I like. Makes it more than just a symbolic connection, & that'd be especially important in the AU as unless Pearl chose her name (which is plausible), Grian's surname would also be Moon.

Impulse eating rocks coming form his dwarf phase is something I'm going to steer clear of, unless we interpret that the Hermatrix was somehow predicting the future as well, since that was still a season away.

I jjust realized I started that last Pearl ask with 'this wouldn't change much' and ended with 'Pearl is much more of a problem than I previously gave her credit for' and I would just like to clarify that that is because I had an 'oh shit' moment I the middle of writing the ask but had already forgot the premise I had originally started with

Fair, & understandable. It still doesn't impact too much, but it definitely gives her tendency to go chaotic some interesting flavour. :P

Minor Hermitphibia AU thought, specifically about Season 1.

With all the stuff that's been going on lately, Grian's going to have a moment when he meets Bessie the Snail for the first time after he gets rescued from being a spore puppet, isn't he? :P

with the new players this means tales from empires will make there way in. also who at skid and smallish beans. Hang out with?

As yet undecided on where specifically Skizz and Joel end up, though I have a few ideas I'm considering.

And what do you mean by Tales from Empires?

Given the running joke with Tango teleporting in to sass/"teach" Skizz in the latter's episodes... I know how the core group of Hermits work out where Skizz is in the Hermitphibia AU, now. :P

I'm still trying to decide exactly where Skizz & Joel slot into the Hermitphibia AU, & that will come in time.

Right now, though, there's one aspect I've decided on, & that's which side of the True Colors split each of them winds up on, & how this has also helped me decide where Impulse ends up, too.

Because wherever Impulse is, Skizz isn't. I'm evil like that.

Thus, I've decided that in the wake of the divide, Skizz ends up on Earth with Anne's group, while Joel (& Impulse) remain in Amphibia with the resistance.

Make of that what you will. :P
