This fanfic on AO3 by @jacqcrisis aka blackjacq was a delight to read. I liked the humour, character building, and the 70's beach town setting. It's definitely a favourite that I'm saving for a rainy day to read again.
There were many moments where the boys were driving in Charon's '73 Lincoln that were really cute, so here they are being flirty and driving through a shower on an otherwise sunny day.
Hope you like it, Jacq
(Also check out their other Charmes fic Show Me How to Dance (Again) - I liked that one too!)
This sketchy piece is the lightbulb baby that kickstarted my longest personal fan project, I’ve been working on the Leyendecker X Hades crossover series for 2 years now. The idea is to paint every single character from the first Hades Game and I’m leveraging off this as a master study of Leyendecker’s work Cus I’ve been an ardent fan for years. So I thought why not marry my two fave things into one?
While im still working on spiderverse stuff in the meantime I’ll be posting pieces from this series to fill the gap. Enjoy!
For the ship ask thing, you said Sandman, I say Hades! Hermes x Charon <3
What are some headcanons you have? Because your headcanons are always top tier.
4. Would you ever consider writing for them? 👀👀👀
9. Which of the characters in the pairing is your favorite?
and I probably should have lead with 2. Do you ship them?
@mashumaru my darling, bless you. ❤️ I've been saving this absolute beauty of an ask for treat. Sometimes stepping away from the Sandman for five minutes to obbsess over my Hades boys is just what's needed.
What are some headcanons you have? Because your headcanons are always top tier.
🥹 Thank you!! Hmmm, well it's not so much a headcannon. But something I haven't as of yet seen explored in the fandom. And that's Hermes roles as Hermes Oneiropompos (conductor of dreams).
"As part of his role as divine messenger, Hermes presided over dreams of omen (messages sent by the gods and the ghosts of the dead.) One touch of his Caduceus could put to sleep, or wake a mortal. And the Greeks offered to him the last libation before sleep."
I find it so important to include this because it means Hermes aids every one of the Chthonic brothers, as a psychopomp and a herald of dreams. Unlike his Olympian relatives it shows his deep understanding and connection with the Chthonic gods. Plus, how can Charon resist this adorable little meteor helping both his baby twin brothers?
Would you ever consider writing for them? 👀👀👀
Writing... Well maybe. Never say never. But I feel like I need to know a ship inside and out, every last intricate little detail about them before I even approach the idea of writing a fic for them. And I'm still so new to Hades and the fandom. But drawing them... Oh yes, it's on the list, it will happen! Can I even claim to be unhealthily feral about a ship until I've captured them in pen and ink on A3? No, no I cannot!
Which of the characters in the pairing is your favorite?
Neither, and that's rare in my ships. I nearly always have a favourite. But in Charmes, both appeal to different parts of my hodgepodge of a pyche. You know I love me some gothicness wrapped in a cloak (added eldest sibling to a bunch of chaos kittens is ways a plus 😅) . We may as well just call Charon, Destiny 2.0. 😆 And Hermes, I love his fire coded asthetic, I love his sense of freedom and trickster nature. And, well you couldn't pay me to run anywhere... But I know what it is to love travelling, to put one foot infront of the other and never want to stop.
Do you ship them?
Ship them!? (Afrronted noises) God no, surely you can see from this incredibly explicit fanart depiction they are just close professional associates! The very thought! The very suggestion!... 😅 Well, yes, obviously... If my above ramblings are anything to go by. They're my all time favourite Hades ship, don't ask me why, I couldn't tell you. But there's something about this duo I cannot get enough of. 💜🧡
Thank you so much for this random fandom ask my dear. 💖

32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
Okay look. Look. There's one thing that immediately came to mind, but it's not a single line. It's a small section and it just-- it tugs at my heartstrings and makes me feel something so horribly soft and tender, and it just breaks me every time I go back to re-read it. This is my blueprint for "Realizing feelings". This is the embodiment of the italiziced "Oh".
"Charon suddenly understood.
He understood why there was so much to do and never enough time to do it. He understood the need to pack so much into the little time the living had because even eternity was still too short. He understood with such a sharp clarity the innovation, the ideas, the bustle, even war. To care for, to impress, to draw ever more closer.
Charon understood why someone would travel into the depths to pull a long gone lover free. To bring them back home where they belonged. He understood the determination, the selfishness, the loss and mourning strong enough to stare down a god and say 'I dare you.' He understood why the temptation to look back would be so strong, just to get a glimpse of him one more time, overcoming even the need to win. He understood the scream. The betrayal and terror and loss all over again. He understood that underlying note that could only be shared with one other.
Charon understood music.
Hermes' brows rose and his smile cocked to the side.
They stop for coffee and bougatsa, Zagreus’s first breakfast out with his fiancé, though he doesn’t say it to Than. They are in a hurry, and if Thanatos has to run off to disappear, he might be late for work, which would not set a good precedent for their married life. Zagreus is going to be a good, low-maintenance husband. This is his plan.
“If Charon knows why we’re coming,” Zagreus asks, “Does that mean he knows we’re getting married?”
“He does.”
“But does he think we’re getting married for real?”
“We are getting married for real.”
“Right, yeah, of course.” And he knew that, he knows it’s a real, legitimate, legal if dubiously fraudulent marriage, but it’s also a visa marriage to his best friend, which is not exactly what people assume when they hear marriage. He tries again. “But does he know… why? I mean should we—” he waves his hands in the air “—you know… act lovey-dovey?”
Thanatos snorts. “It’s Charon. He doesn’t care.”
Fair point. That’s all simple enough, then. Zagreus has no doubt he could feign romantic affection for Thanatos all day long, but Thanatos would probably rather light his own feet on fire. He’s not much for lying.
It is not just Charon waiting for them at the docks. He sits on a stone wall, smoking a joint next to a smiling man who waves very happily at their arrival. Thanatos’s feet stick to the pathway, and Zagreus isn’t sure what to do.
“You must be my cousin,” the stranger calls over to Zagreus, and this seems to snap Thanatos out of it, because he has already set his coffee on the wall to sign at Charon, “What the fuck?”
“It’s fine,” the alleged cousin cuts in, “I’m not going to tell anyone you’re here. That’s your business. I’m Hermes. Immigration is my business, among other things. Now let’s see about that passport.”
Charon ignores Thanatos’s death glares to nod at Zagreus. “Go ahead,” he signs.
Thanatos grabs Charon’s arm and drags him to the side as Zagreus digs his passport out of his pocket. “You’re really my cousin?” Zagreus asks.
“I am your father’s brother’s son, yeah, one of many,” he replies. “I’ve been looking forward to meeting you for ages. When Thanatos texted last night, I couldn’t resist. Charon said he’d blow a gasket, though. Didn’t disappoint. Looks like his head will pop right off if he doesn’t let out some steam.”
“You were with Charon on the boat?” He looks over at the Psychopomp and notes the plaque affixed to it. Charon & Hermes, LLC. “How did I not know that one of my cousins was living with Thanatos’s brother on a boat?” Zagreus asks. “That seems like something I should have known.”
“Like I said, or maybe I didn’t say, I’m good at secrets. Comes with the territory. Very useful in our family.” He waves Zagreus’s passport in the air. “Thanks for this, coz, I’ll get it back to you in two days. Better get your number, just in case.”
Zagreus nods, passing Hermes his phone while trying to watch the conversation between Thanatos, whose shoulders are so tense they have practically reached his ears, and Charon, who is leaning against a light post. He winks at Zagreus when he catches his eye.
“Does Hades really not know?” Thanatos is asking.
“He thinks Zagreus is traveling. Someone left travel books all over his room. He thinks he’ll come home when he runs out of money. Or gets arrested.”
Zagreus rolls his eyes, but it’s nice to know that part of the plan worked. He can add master of misdirection to his many useless talents.
“You sign?” Hermes asks.
“I did grow up with them.”
He wasn’t as good at it as they were. His father didn’t understand, and Zagreus caught on quickly he could talk freely in front of him as long as he did it with his hands. That didn’t last long—Hades caught on quickly he could knock Zagreus’s hands right out of the air. After a while, Charon said he signed with the equivalent of a stutter, and that was when he really gave up and just started talking with his voice.
Thanatos moves his body so that Zagreus can’t see what he’s saying now. He catches the odd snippet from Charon, though.
No—idiotic—why?—No
Charon pushes past Thanatos and says to Zagreus, “Congrats on the nuptials. Sorry you don’t have better taste.”
“Thanks, Charon, mate, but what else was I to do when you had already apparently settled in with my cousin?”
