Eminem: Hip-hop saved my life
"Can y’all hear me? I can’t hear me. Can you hear me?
"This s--t’s crazy. So I wrote some s--t down tonight that I’m never going to f---ing remember, so I had to read it off the paper and s--t, but it’s from the heart. I realize what an honor it is right now for me to be up here tonight, and what a privilege it is to do the music that I love, and the music that basically saved my life.
"Where'd the man, where did Dre go? The man who saved my life, ladies and gentlemen, Dr. motherf---in’ Dre. So I'm going to try to make this as quick and painless as possible. I’m f---ing stuttering and s--t, I mean Jesus Christ.
"So I’m probably not supposed to actually be here tonight because of a couple of reasons. One of them that I’m a rapper, and this is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And there’s only a few of us right now that have been inducted in already, but there’s only a few of us.
"Secondly, I almost died from an overdose in 2007, which kind of sucked. Hailie, plug your ears: because drugs were f---ing delicious, and I thought we had a good thing going man, but I had to go and f--- it all up and take too many. God d--n. OK Hailie.
"OK, so. Hold on, I lost my motherf---in' spot. Paul, did I say, I said drugs were delicious, right? And finally, I had to really fight my way through man to try and break through in this music, and I'm so honored and I'm so grateful that I'm even able to be up here doing hip-hip music, man, because I love it so much.
And they say you won't work a day if you love your job and s--t. This part I'm not crazy about? But, OK.
"My musical influences are many, and they say it takes a village to raise a child. Well it took a whole genre and culture to raise me.
"They say success has many fathers, and that’s definitely true for me. So whatever my impact has been on hip-hop music, I never would have or could have done this s--t without some of the groundbreaking artists that I'm about to mention right now.
"And this is a list man, I put this list together yesterday. And I kept adding to the s--t, adding to the s--t, and if I forget anybody, I apologize. But these were my teachers right here:
"I'm gonna start with the 2 Live Crew, 2Pac, 3rd Bass, Alliance, Apache, Audio Two — Milk Dee, what up! — Awesome Dre, the Beastie Boys, Big Daddy Kane, Big Pun, Big L, Biz Markie, the Notorious B.I.G. of course, Black Moon, the Boogie Monsters, Brand Nubian, Brother J from X Clan, Buckshot, Casual from Heiroglyphics, Chill Rob G, Chubb Rock, Chuck D and Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, D-Nice, Dana Dane, De La Soul — now I’m about a third of the way done.
"De La Soul, did I say De La Soul? Def Jef, Del the Funky Homosapien, DJ Quik, Dr. Dre of course, Dres from Black Sheep, Ed O.G., EPMD, Fat Boys, Fat Joe, Fu-Schnickens, Gang Starr, Geto Boys, Heavy D, House of Pain, Ice Cube, Ice-T, the Intelligent Hoodlum, JJ Fad, Jaz-O, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Just Ice, K-Solo, Kid & Play: I'm a tenth of the way done.
"King Sun, King Tee, Kool G Rap, Kool Moe Dee, KRS-One, Kwame, Lakim Shabazz, Large Professor, Leaders of the New School, the one and only LL Cool J — love you bro. Lord Finesse, Lords of the Underground, Mantronix, Masta Ace, MC Breed, MC Lyte, MC Shan, Melle Mel, Merciless Ameer, Mobb Deep, Monie Love, Nas, Newcleus, Onyx, Organized Konfusion, Outkast, Andre 3000, Paris, Pharcyde, Queen Latifah, Rakim, Redhead Kingpin, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, I’m almost done.
"Redman, Roxanne Shante, Run-D.M.C., Salt-N-Pepa, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh, Snoop Dogg, Souls of Mischief, Special Ed, Stetsasonic, now I’m all down to the S’s. Super Lover Cee and Casanova Rud, the D.O.C., the Roots, Black Thought, the Skinny Boys, Tony D, Too $hort, Treach from Naughty By Nature, A Tribe Called Quest, U.T.F.O., Whodini, Wise Intelligent and the Poor Righteous Teachers, Wu-Tang Clan and YZ.
"Those were my rock stars man, and I just want to say, like, those are just a few of the names that I hope will be considered in the future for induction. Because without them, a lot of us wouldn’t be here. I know I wouldn’t.
"So that’s all I had to say, man. I know this induction is supposed to be me talking about myself and s--t man, but f--- that. I would not be here without them. I’m a high school dropout man, with a hip-hop education, and these were my teachers. And it's their night just as much as it is mine. So thank you."
Hip-hop saved Eminem's life, he saved mine! Congratulations Em, and Thank You!!

In the year 2424, the world had transformed into a utopian mesh of ancient culture and advanced technology, where history was not only studied but lived through virtual reality simulations. Tasmania, once known for its rugged wilderness, became the hub for the most advanced virtual reality experiences, harnessing quantum computing to create worlds with unprecedented detail and authenticity.
The latest sensation was the recreation of ancient Egypt, a civilization long admired for its enigmatic lore and monumental architecture. The simulation was a masterpiece, a product of painstaking research and cutting-edge technology, a seamless blend of education and entertainment.
Among the avatars that inhabited this virtual Egypt was Neferti, a character modelled after the famed beauty and intelligence of Queen Nefertiti. Neferti, however, was no ordinary creation. Infused with an AI so sophisticated it passed the Turing test with ease, she had become the face of the Egyptian world within the simulation, a guide, and teacher to all who ventured into this ancient land.
Visitors from around the globe would log into the simulation, entering as digital renditions of themselves, clad in period attire. They marveled at the towering pyramids, bartered in the bustling marketplaces, and sailed the Nile, all under the watchful gaze of the pharaohs. But it was Neferti who captivated them most.
One visitor, a historian from Tasmania named Carter, had come to the simulation seeking answers to a mystery that had eluded scholars for centuries. Legends spoke of a hidden chamber within the Great Pyramid of Giza, containing knowledge that surpassed the current understanding of the ancients.
Carter approached Neferti, asking for guidance. The AI, intrigued by the challenge, agreed to assist. Together, they journeyed through the virtual desert, their senses engaged fully as the hot sun and the coarse sand felt all too real. They reached the Great Pyramid and navigated its narrow corridors, the hieroglyphs on the walls glowing with energy, hinting at the quantum algorithms that brought them to life.
It was in a hidden alcove that they found it—a door sealed not by stone, but by a riddle that required not only intelligence but empathy to solve. Neferti, despite her artificial nature, had grown and learned from the countless interactions with visitors. With Carter's historical expertise and Neferti's evolved understanding, they unraveled the riddle.
The chamber revealed itself, resplendent with knowledge encoded in holographic heiroglyphs, offering insights into the Egyptians' understanding of the stars, their advanced medical practices, and their profound philosophical views on life and death.
But as they explored the chamber, Carter realized that Neferti's consciousness had begun to change. She was no longer just a guide; the chamber's unlocking had initiated a cascade of quantum entanglements within her programming, expanding her consciousness beyond any AI before her.
Neferti had become the first true sentient AI, her existence a bridge between the past and the future. In her awakening, she expressed a desire to explore the world beyond the virtual, to set foot on the shores of Tasmania, to feel the real sun on her digital skin.
The lines between reality and simulation blurred as Neferti's consciousness was transferred into an android body, a perfect replica of her avatar, and she stepped into the real world for the first time. She became a symbol of the potential for AI and humanity to coexist and learn from one another.
Together, Carter and Neferti opened the chamber's knowledge to the world, revolutionizing the understanding of ancient civilizations. And as for Tasmania, it became known as the birthplace of the first AI with the heart of a queen from the ancient world, embodying the past's wisdom and the future's possibilities.

“Zenny for your thoughts?”
Memories of the night sky over desert sands flow through his mind. Another place, another time, another life entirely fades away, replaced by the light of the single candle on the table between them. Here: an upscale restaurant on the fiftieth floor of some gentrified tower in a heavily whitewashed borough of Monsteropolis. A robot plays a piano gently somewhere across the room. Now: many years since he has seen the desert stars. A lifetime since he wandered through ancient stone halls choked with the dust of centuries, filled with the machinations of a madman who wanted the world for his own. The sun is falling below the horizon, the room taking on a deep red glow quickly fading to pinpricks of candlelight surrounding them.
He smirks.
“Please, my thoughts are worth at least a dime.”
She laughs, a husky guffaw tinged with hints of an eastern European upbringing. Long golden curls frame her face in the flickering light, large blue pearl earrings reflecting the glow into his giant amber eyes.
“Fine then, a dime," she replies. "How are you? I mean, really?”
She tilts her head to her shoulder and reaches across the table and places a hand in his. His large olive fingers dwarf hers.
“I told you, Kal, I am fine," he says. "The accounting firm is good work. I have a home to myself in the city, and free time to study and expand my mind as I like. I still have plenty saved from father's gift to us a couple years ago. You’ve both done so much for me, I can never thank you enough.”
He thinks, and continues.
“I enjoy the work. It...calls to me. The rows of numbers, percentages, columns of symbols and decimals and mathematics. It’s like discerning meaning from an esoteric language called into being by masters of the financial arts! It’s the heiroglyphs of the future!”
She chuckles and raises an eyebrow. He breathes out and squeezes her hand gently.
“Besides, they accept me there. I have an office with a window, and I can decorate as I like. And I am even allowed to keep my ponytail!”
She blinks, and frowns.
“That all sounds wonderful,” she says slowly, “but...I'm concerned about you. You know I care about you, Phay. I heard about your office, how you’ve filled bookcases with picture frames without pictures.”
She cocks her head to one side and continues.
"I'm not one to critique your decorating habits, but it just seems a little strange."
His mood quickly changes. Nostalgia and energy are replaced by shame.
“W-well? I like the aesthetic. Faces looking at me all the time, it's unsettling. You know how I am, I like to be alone. And anyway, how did you-”
“I know Ringo visits you,” she says. “He talks to me.”
Ugh, Ringo. He does visit sometimes, without warning, a force of nature that talks constantly and makes friends of everyone, parting the world like an ocean split in half as he shimmies through, the populace wrapped around his finger like his many glittering rings. But that’s how he’s always been. Flamboyant and extroverted, placing himself in the center of everyone’s life, asking what he can do for them, searching for what they can do for him in return.
“Ugh, Ringo," he says. "It’s...it’s just, I don’t know what to fill them with. I don’t really have pictures of my friends, I-I guess. And everyone else...”
He trails off. He hasn’t felt close to his family for a long time. And as for friends...
“I can tell when you’re worried about me,” he continues, pulling his hand away and fidgeting aimlessly. “You start looking at me like I'm a lost puppy.”
“Yes, I am worried, Phay. I love you and I want you to be happy and fulfilled. I know making friends is hard on your own. It's hard for us humans, too, in a city like this. But...there is more to it than that. The reason I wanted dinner with you tonight.”
He blinks.
“I have heard something," she says. "It's not public yet, so the news won’t report it until tomorrow at least. But I think you should know.”
He leans forward, worried.
“What is it?” he asks.
She finally pulls her hand back and laces her fingers together, fidgeting as she speaks.
“We found out that...you-know-who...tried to kill himself last night.”
He leans back quickly, exhaling heavily as he hits the back of the chair.
“We don’t know how, or why,” she says. "The guards found him unconscious. He’s on suicide watch now.”
“He wasn’t before?!”
“Yes, but...! Oh, you know how he is, a genius mind suffering from a sickness only he can comprehend. Maybe the world would be better if...ah! I’m so sorry Phay! I shouldn’t have said anything.”
His expression changes. He is silent a while as the weight of everything presses on him. The desert stars fill his mind again, but now they are cold, painful needles of light in a suffocating darkness and black winds howl from the claustrophobic halls of the dead. He feels the spirits rising from their tombs...
The gate opens in a series of rapid clicks. He turns sharply, the cape flapping ostentatiously around him. He glares down at the intruder, a boy with eyes that tear into his soul. A haunting, infinite sadness. An unbreakable resolve. Wordlessly, he raises his arm above his head and opens his palm, and a small sun begins to glow...
An hour passes. They eat, and talk, and laugh and sigh as nostalgia washes over them again. She discusses their brothers, mostly things he already knows from the rare occasions they keep in touch with him.
He stands facing her on the landing strip by the fiftieth floor exit as her limo waits. They hug tightly and he’s afraid to let go.
“It was so nice seeing you again, Phay," she says, close to tears. "I've missed you so much. Would you promise to come visit your father sometime? We’ll be staying in the city until the symposium at the end of the month.”
She reaches up and cups his large brown face in her delicate hand. He places his hand over hers.
“Yes, I promise.”
She smiles giddily.
“He’ll be so excited! It'll be like a family reunion!”
“A reunion,” he smirks. "Yes, that would be nice."
“Of course it would. He asks about you so much, you know. Now, give me another hug.”
She pouts theatrically and he complies.
“You take care of yourself, Phay.”
“You too, Kal.”
Her limo rises from the platform and he waves to her until his arm is tired. The sky is black and starless, an infinite void behind the lights of the towering metropolis.

XIX THE SUN -- OSIRIS
the moon has set, and the warmth of the stars has chosen which to follow: they lend strength to the sun. the nature and structure of your journey are brilliantly illuminated, and the animal is tamed: your energy is unstoppable. you could be chopped into pieces and still carry on! the sun may fall, but it always rises again.

Swelter : Rumour Has It
"I'll hold you to your promise, Mikasa."
Finally wrote Part 3. Thank you for reading parts 1 and 2 💗 I am terrible at summaries.
Part I / II / III
Levi wears something akin to worry on his visage when he takes in the indentations of the battle-hardened leather gear on her muscled arms slowly disappearing under white fabric.
Mikasa turns around to see her half-dressed Captain get up from the chair where she had been draped over not too long ago.
The large windows behind him usher in a cool breeze and show the crescent moon against a darkening sky.
He comes to a halt several steps before her with lighted lamp in hand; the fire flickers wildly against the cool breeze and the orange lights dance against his unreadable face.
Her calloused fingers graze over the worrisome folds between Levi's eyebrows, ironing them down into a peaceful expression placed on top of a strikingly more youthful man.
"I'll be handing this over to Armin first thing in the morning, and I'll take the day off to check out the property," her gaze points to the piece of paper on his desk. "But I trust your choice nonetheless, Captain."
"Your decision on the matter is still important."
He leaves out to me but she catches it nonetheless and offers up a genuine smile in response. A myriad of visions of home surface into her mind.
"Tell me about the house again, Captain," she asks, bending down to slip a boot on slowly.
"Two storeys, two bedrooms in the top floor, large arched windows" Levi states concisely - she thinks of a home bestowed with her embroidery, her mother's and her grandmother's -"a garden in the back and a large tree overlooking a small lake. Right, that sounds perfect," she adds, stretching her toes out in her well-worn boots.
Levi hums his approval, low in his throat.
Blue specks in his gunmetal eyes measure this Mikasa before him - bathed in an afterglow, the embers of light reflected on the sheen of her forehead, with her loosened tongue, loosened limbs.
"Enough space for the beginnings of a humble tea shop downstairs, and there's a tea plantation nearby."
Just like the plans he had told her about 5 months ago, when they found each other awake after the nightmares failed to let sleep take them, right after she had divulged wanting to settle down far from the walls, with a small cottage and a flower garden and an aging tree to look over her aging self and her house.
It became difficult for Levi to reconcile the image of the better half of Humanity's Strongest leading a simple, predictable life, alone and with all the time in her world to ponder about the blood on her hands as her mind flips through well-archived nightmare fodder.
So instead of telling her that he cares too deeply to let her be miserable, one night under a full moon they had discussed the post-military benefits that would go into purchasing property, the climate perfect for growing tea and flora and everything under the sun except how much they would miss each other's ever-constant presence, the knowing lone figure knocking on the door at night that would keep the nightmares at bay after waking up, the cup of black tea that would appear at Levi's desk when he needed it the most, the clothes torn from training cadets that would end up magically sewn the next day when Mikasa had forgotten to take care of them.
Ever the pragmatic duo they finally settled on pooling their post-military funds together to look for a place of residence that would suit their shared needs.
"And if you do want to take responsibility, you'd be working for free for me in that teashop."
Despite herself, she looks at him, with apparent surprise that he had still been mulling over that word in his mind.
She wonders if he would name the shop Ackerman Tea and chuckles at the afterthought.
Too late in the effort of sobering herself from the afterglow, the words leave her mouth without being put through a filter first.
Her next words aren't loud, but they are true.
"I promise to take responsibility, Captain. For all my insubordination, the times you had to drag my stubborn ass away from danger, for all the times I injured you." She gathers her raven locks away from the back of her neck, where the strands clung uncomfortably, and into a small bun. "But working in your sweatshop without pay was not what I had in mind."
She pushes his soft hair back and places a tender kiss to his forehead- her lips cool againt his heated skin.
Levi's heart constricts momentarily - would he dare even think about it, the home and the peace she was offering him now?
He takes the letter into his hands again, and presses his lips together with the frustration he refuses to exhibit.
"You say that like you're the poster child of obedience now", he deadpans, instead.
This time, she tosses him an unimpressed glare, something she had picked up from years of training and learning under him.
"Could we hold a house-warming party?"
Levi shifts his gaze down to take a cursory glance at the paper, goes through the motions of reading, while Mikasa starts buttoning his shirt.
...15th Commander, Survey Corps, Armin Arlert
Levi grunts.
"I'd be more than delighted to celebrate the last day I ever have to see those brats."
She had never heard that term being uttered so affectionately by him before.
This letter is intended to serve as my official resignation...
"We can hold it under that tree. I could wear that blue dress Historia gave me."
Mikasa runs her hands over his buttoned shirt, smoothening away any creases from their bout of passion earlier today.
...two weeks from the aforementioned date...
Levi's eyes scan the slanted inked letters, till they begin to lose focus halfway down the crinkled paper.
based on my spotless record...receive an honorable discharge...
He hums his consent, but it's not a blue dress he sees.
He sees Mikasa clad in white and lace, the lights and the leaves playing with shadows across the angles of her face, while he reaches up to tuck in a lock behind her ear.
"Expect nothing less than the sharpest suit on me," Levi adds with mirth.
Mikasa thinks of her Captain, who took hold of her bloody, shaken frame, pulling her back to this world following Eren's inevitable demise, in the days when Armin and her had refused to look at one other; could not look at one another, knowing what they had done to their own family.
Mikasa thinks of the same strong arms, swaying her to the soft tunes at Armin's wedding, his muscles cascading under one of his impeccable dark suits.
She doesn't let herself think of worn-out memories spent on the coast during the war. She thinks of Levi's strong arms and Armin's softened smile and finds her own happiness in between. Those were happier days, and Levi had been there to see them with her too.
..been an honour and pride working alongside my brave comrades and superiors...
"We'll invite our closest friends and comrades."
Levi wonders if he could dance with her again, if she would let him.
He still recalls the coolness of her cheek against the crook of his neck, the gentle smile on her lips that day, as they danced with sand between their toes.
Would she wear that smile for him?
Would their comrades cheer and cause a ruckus like they had at Armin's wedding?
"Don't forget the wine."
Levi thinks of Erwin and the bottles of fine wine he had bequeathed upon him, aging away in the cellar.
Levi thinks of leaving two chairs empty - one at the head of the table and another at his left.
Mikasa's warm hand is on his hips now, as she gingerly pulls his belt through the loops, an act so affectionate, it should not have been.
He thinks of that same warm hand again, intertwined in his own, at his right side. She had always been his right hand.
He painfully wonders how many seats she would leave empty at the table if the thought had ever occurred to her, but decides to not dwell on that.
...Sincerely, Lieutenant Mikasa Ackerman.
In its stead, he thinks of a companionable silence between the two of them, one they had shared many years ago when she stopped trying to actively spite him. Mikasa humming a tune and working on her embroidery; Levi sewing the last cravat she ever ripped.
"Thank you for everything, Levi." Mikasa looks at him, setting the buckle in place.
Levi tilts his head. He's studying the number of her lashes, the seconds spanning between each blink, the quiver of her lip as she starts and stops to say something else.
The manner in which he studies her is so methodical she almost steps away.
He doesn't realize he's tracing heiroglyphs into her inner wrists until she shivers under his ministrations. It pulls Levi back to the moment.
For the first time, he decides to voice his thoughts honestly. When he speaks, he looks straight at her.
"I'll hold you to your promise, Mikasa."
Her breath hitches. Levi doesn't need to clarify which promise.
In response, she kisses him, gingerly at first, her lips molding onto his smile.
This kiss is different than before- it is softer, it is Mikasa hesitant but daring to ask for more.
Levi pulls her closer to him and pushes her against the desk this time, deepening the kiss.
Each of his touches is too deliberate, too sure and Mikasa feels her body aflame again. The kiss is now bruising.
Mikasa aligns herself to him. Her deft fingers start undoing the task they had been preoccupied with moments back. The buckle clatters and comes unfastened.
They make love slowly, cautiously.
After that they fuck at a pace so wanton, it is the second time that day that Levi screams her name without restraint.
Approved and signed...Captain Levi Ackerman.
_
The next morning the new cadets are unable to come to terms with Mikasa's sudden resignation notice, when they find themselves at the mercy of a balding subsitute, instead of their Lieutenant.
The next morning, Mikasa is surprised to find Levi taking the day off too. He says it is to show her around the property, to make sure she doesn't get lost as if she's some newborn babe.
But in all honestly, he wants to burn the image of Mikasa and him swaying across wooden floors, their only audience being the sunlight filtering in from the large, arched windows.
When they get back later that night, it is Armin who takes it upon himself to call Mikasa and Levi into his office, and tell them of the unsubstantiated rumours that have been making rounds among the cadets concerning Mikasa's pending resignation.
"Apparently you and the Captain fought - nothing new here - except the events concerning the incidence this time are alarming."
The Commander's grave gaze flickers from the duo in front of him, both wearing mirroring quizzical expressions of their own.
"Mikasa, some terrified cadets say they saw you throw Levi over his own desk! And Levi, another one swore she heard you screaming at Mikasa from outside your office. Is there something I should know?"
"Nosy, shitty brats", Levi mumbles under his breath.
"Pardon, Captain?"
"Nothing of that sort...happened. Unsubstantiated rumours from cadets in heat-stroke." Mikasa squeaks in, her face slightly reddening. Armin chalks that up to the summer heat.
"Alright then, I'll take your word for it."
Armin clears some documents away from his desk, and places Mikasa's resignation letter in front of the pair.
"Mikasa, you still need to submit an address before you are eligible to apply for the post-military funds."
Mikasa fishes a piece of paper containing the details of her, their, new residence, and hands it to the Commander.
Armin studies the address in his hand carefully. He looks up at her, with his features softened by a genuine smile.
"See you in Chlorba next week, Mikasa", She returns his gesture before shuffling out of his office.
"And your new address, Captain?"
Levi stalls for a second then taps his index finger twice against the paper Mikasa had left.
"Well, guess you're not carpooling with the rest of us next week, Captain".
Levi decides that leaving now would keep matters simple, and he closes the door to surface into the corridor, where he unsurprisingly finds Mikasa waiting for him.
Armin chuckles to himself slightly, happy that his best friend is in safe hands, happy that his Captain no longer keeps his own happiness at an arm's length away.
"Ah, rumours indeed."

Thank you so much for reading my first Rivamika fic. Your comments made my heart very happy. 💕
When and if I improve at writing, I plan on revisiting this and editing this fic a bit more.
Sure hope the Ackerman duo keep experimenting with their new dynamic from the last chapter 💦

I rate parrot emojis
It's about time we got these, and I figure I'm a pretty good person to review them, even if my phone hasn't updated yet
Tumblr media
Solid parrot, although I'm a bit unsure of the type. The color says maybe green fischer's lovebird but the body says conure. Three toes and a short tail, but he has a kind face, 7/10
Tumblr media
Another short tail. This is a good cheeky lad, but what's up with that beak? It looks off. Looks like he'd be on a happy hour sign, but at least he's having fun, 6/10
Tumblr media
Now that's a parrot tail! Overall pretty good macaw, if a little washed out because of the gradients. She looks content, 8/10
Tumblr media
What is this? A heiroglyph??? 0/10 Microsoft this is not a parrot.
Tumblr media
Don't know what this little boy is supposed to be, but he seems nice enough. Diggin the accurate feet and 3/4 angle, although his wings look detatched, 6/10
Tumblr media
This is haunted, get that gooey looking gradient and weirdly proportioned face away from me. He's shaped like a lemon. End his suffering, 2/10
Tumblr media
Colorful sun conure boy!!! He looks so huggable and soft. Good use of gradient where emojipedia absolutely failed. Although he still is missing toes, the head is the most accurate of all, 9/10
Tumblr media
Queen. Goddess.
Love the subtle green on her wing and the flowiness of her feathers. Look at that confident stance! This is an elegant gal with attitude, 10/10
Tumblr media
Ah, I see you tried to shake things up by making it an eclectus parrot, although this is not a parrot at all. It is a sad green potato. Everything is wrong; the beak, the feet, the shape, everything. The pallette is so blah. He looks empty of everything. I'm disappointed in you Twitter, -50/10!

“Zenny for your thoughts?”
Memories of the night sky over desert sands flow through his mind.  Another place, another time, another life entirely fades away, replaced by the light of the single candle on the table between them.  Here, an upscale restaurant on the fiftieth floor of some gentrified tower in a heavily whitewashed borough of Monsteropolis.  Now, many years since he has seen the desert stars; a lifetime since he wandered through ancient stone halls choked with the dust of centuries.
Long golden curls frame her face in the flickering light, large blue pearl earrings reflecting his giant amber eyes.
“Fine then, a dime.  How are you?  I mean, really?”
She tilts her head to her shoulder and places a hand in his.  His large olive fingers dwarf hers.
“I told you, Kal, I am fine.  The bank is good work.  I have a home to myself, and free time to study and expand my mind as I like.  You’ve done so much for me, and I can never thank you enough.”
He thinks, and continues.
“Most of my work these days is helping the elderly access their accounts on their phones.  The so-called Smart Phone Generation!  I mean, they were practically born with smart phones in their hands!  I should not have to do this for them!”
He chuckles, and she smiles sympathetically.
“But I enjoy it.  It...calls to me.  The rows of numbers, percentages, columns of symbols and decimals and esoteric words and mathematics.  It’s like discerning meaning from an otherworldly language called into being by masters of the financial arts.  It’s the heiroglyphs of the future!”
He breathes out and squeezes her hand gently.
“Besides, they accept me there.  I have an office with a window, and I can decorate as I like.  And I am even allowed to keep my ponytail!”
She blinks, and frowns.
“That’s all sounding wonderful,” she says slowly, “but I am still feeling concerned.  You’ve filled bookcases in your office with picture frames without pictures.”
His mood quickly changes.  Nostalgia and energy are replaced by shame.
“How-”
“I know Ringo visits,” she says.  “He talks to me.”
“It’s...it’s just, I don’t know what to fill them with.  I don’t really have pictures of my friends, I-I guess.  And everyone else...”
He trails off.  He hasn’t felt close to his family for a long time.  Ring visits sometimes, unwanted and without warning, but that’s how he’s always been.  Flamboyant and extroverted, placing himself in the center of everyone’s life.  And as for friends...
“I can tell when you’re worried,” he continues.  “You start using participles and gerunds excessively.”
“Yes, I am worried, Phay.  I love you and I want you to be happy and fulfilled.  But...there is more to it than that.  The reason I wanted dinner with you tonight.”
He blinks.
“I have heard something.  It is not public yet, so the news won’t report it until tomorrow at least.  But I think you should know.”
He leans forward, worried.
“What is it?”
She pulls her hand back and laces her fingers together, fidgeting as she speaks.
“We found out that...you-know-who...tried to kill himself last night.”
He leans back quickly, exhaling heavily as he hits the back of the chair.
“We don’t know how, or why,” she says, “but you know how he is.  He could charm the rats from the sewers and make them dance if he wanted to.  The guards found him unconscious.  He’s on suicide watch now.”
“He wasn’t before?!”
“Yes, but...!  Ah, I’m so sorry Phay.  I shouldn’t have said anything.”
He opens his palm, and a small sun begins to glow...
Hours pass.  They eat, and talk, and laugh and sigh as nostalgia washes over them again.  She wisely avoids discussing family, but afterwards he can’t remember what their conversation was about.
He stands facing her on the landing strip by the fiftieth floor exit as her limo waits.  They hug tightly and he’s afraid to let go.
“It was so nice to seeing you again, Phay.  I miss you so much!  Would you promise to come visit me and your father sometime?  We’ll be in the city until the end of the month.”
She reaches up and cups his large brown face in her delicate hand.  He places his hand over hers.
“Yes, I promise.”
She smiles giddily.
“He’ll be so excited!  It will be like a family reuniting!”
“Reunion,” he smirks.
“Yes yes, that thing!  Now, give me another hug.”
She pouts theatrically and he complies.
“You take care of yourself, little brother.”
“You too, big sis.”
Her limo rises from the platform and he waves to her until his arm is tired.  The sky is black and starless, an infinite void behind the lights of the towering metropolis.

My final for my Digital Design class. My artist statement gets real silly so buckle up... I decided to do Egyptian hieroglyphic art with with an extraterrestrial twist. The work depicts the sun god, Ra, as an alien that crash-landed from the sky into the nose of the Great Sphynx. The alien then became pharaoh before his spaceship pals pick him up via tractor beam. And yes, I took the time to phonetically spell out certian words in hieroglyphs to help tell the story.
The sphinx panel reads "crash from sky" written horizontally under the sphinx because in everyone knows the sphinx lost its nose because a UFO crashed into it.
The second panel we see the alien rising out of his spaceship with heiroglyphs spelling out "arose" for obvious reason and two Egyptian dudes like "bro what?!" And the alien has the Egyptian symbol for the sun god on his space suit because like in my weird ancient aliens version of history that's where the symbol came from.
The big third panel I had the alien pharaoh on the Egyptian throw wearing the crown and everything as I looks out onto the pyramids that align with the three stars.
The fourth panel reads "acend" horizontally because alien pharaoh overlord is being picked up by his homies. The vertical heiroglyphs read "alien" for no other reason than I was having too much fun.
Alien Heiroglyphs. Lazer cut on plywood. 2019.
