Thinking about @molagboop ‘s world-building about Chozo allopreening and realizing I may have accidentally/retroactively incorporated something similar into Electrochromic and now I feel like I should lean into it.
Because really (realistically?) it makes perfect sense that allopreening would be the way Samus expresses affection for people, at least early on before getting more accustomed to human social behaviour (and probably even after, just because it’s what she’s used to). I imagine, and have already established in EC, she’s not one for hugs or casual contact. That’s weird mammal stuff that’s been relegated to a very distant part of her memories. But allopreening has become reflexive for her, it’s low-contact, relatively innocuous, and you can get away with it around humans because they just tend to think you’re fussy about appearances. But the truth is she does it because it’s how she shows she cares. Her new human friends don’t have feathers to idly preen but they wear a lot of layers and adornments, all of which can use the occasional gentle adjustment.
In a military setting, if there’s something wrong with your uniform, you’re most likely to hear about it when your officer tells you off for it. Yet despite her apparent disdain for authority, Samus seems to care a lot about her squadmates’ kit. And yes, part of it is that she doesn’t want to have to stand around while someone gets jacked up by their CO for looking sloppy, but the main reason is that’s just her way of showing friendly affection; making sure your bars are pinned on straight or picking lint off your jacket or straightening a cuff or collar here and there.
Because to her, that’s just how you show you care about someone. Because she grew up with Old Bird gently picking the knots out of her hair, then showing her what a bent downy feather looks like so she could return the favour. Because Grey Voice would help clean up her scrapes from training and she’d spend a few minutes straightening the covert-feathers on his shoulders in return. Because it’s not an entirely alien gesture, it is something humans do and appreciate, and she takes a lot of comfort in that commonality.
I’ve already written it in at least once, maybe twice; in “Iron and Sulfur” she and Adam take a pause to neaten one another up before the officers’ formal, and in “Prussian Blue” there’s a brief moment she adjusts the fabric wrap that Adam is trying on. Adam, and probably Ian and Anthony too, would likely be on the receiving end of a lot of this casual preening, being the people she’s closest with. (But also perhaps because she has keen enough eyes to notice when things are awry, and also perhaps because something about all the extra bits and bobs on Adam’s uniform strike some particularly corvidy part of her brain.) I like to think they’re fine with it, even used to it, once the initial confusion about it wore off.
This habit was probably the singular personal-space transgression she would commit towards her coworkers, who she would otherwise try to keep at arm’s-length. Adam especially, who she would avoid contact with in all possible cases without explicit permission, except idly picking fuzz or brushing dust off her mildly puzzled CO. Adam probably saw it for it was pretty quickly, though I imagine Ian initially took it for an awkward kind of flirtation - which in some contexts it could be, for Chozo, but that’s not how Samus intended it. Anthony probably didn’t think much of it, any sign the weird new girl was more comfortable with the group was a good thing.
With fewer close friends now later in her career, the habit shows itself less frequently, but when it does, it’s often entirely subconscious. Samus might find herself rubbing grime off the unfamiliar bounty hunter she’d run into for the last few jobs, or brushing dust off the Marine captain she’d been working with the past couple weeks, and realize - perhaps with surprise, or even concern - “Oh, I see them as a friend now.” To an outside observer, it may seem like Bounty Hunter Samus Aran has some slightly odd ideas about personal space, but from her perspective, it’s a tacit assurance of “I care about you.”

After the events of 'Man of Your Dreams', Hetty spends another sleepless night ruminating on her life, and afterlife. And reveals the circumstances around her death.
Posted this last night (well early hours of the morning in my timezone), and forgot to post it here. This was a fic born out of a couple of headcanons I have about Hetty and her death, and a slight bit of fix-it for Trevor and Hetty, but not a reunion for them. Hope you like it.

Is scarnoa gonna do all 3 paths? Of so which ones does she prioritize?
Oooh, that's actually an interesting question -let me go on a long ass rambling because this is all relevant (I'm honest i'm totally normal about this lmao)
So the thing about this, is that the most OPTIMAL path, is to go in a specific order based on levels.
Tumblr media
Katy is the first one you should typically start with, before trekking over yonder to the east.
Scarnoa doesn't have any specific priority beyond the Gym Badges (though do keep in mind that she DOES get distracted often, so oops), but uhh, I will be tweaking things so that she ends up having more reason why she keeps going all over the place. She went first with Katy after taking a detour and ending up in the marsh that Arven found her at (because she was looking for FLAMIGO), because he was looking for a Pokemon to take down Klawf - he can't fight them with a Skwovet, lmao, but then got a call for Arven afterwards (since he was training up that Shellder he caught), and decided "OKAY!!!" and boom, Titan down. Checks map "Oh, gym is near, let's go!!"
by the by, in case anyone needs a confirmation of where you can catch Shellder:
Tumblr media
You can find some in the area by that marsh where Flamigo like to pop up. How did Scarnoa end up there so early???
girlbossed (backwards jump LETS GOO jk jk) too hard and ended up someplace she wasn't supposed to be so early (Arven isn't supposed to be there, but obviously, we have to admit that he has SOME badges to ensure that the Pokemon he catches don't start disobeying him - some of them DO give him issues, but it's not so bad as it WOULD"VE been WITHOUT the badges. I like to think of these things as being strength checks that make POkemon go "yeah, I'm down following you, let's go kick ass")
Wins another badge, gets a call from Arven AGAIN, who is most likely far too eager by now, because something changed with his Mabosstiff, so Scarnoa is ON THE WAY (forgetting that she can mcfucking call a taxi vhfelkjbvklfb), anyways Arven's just "what the fuck, that was like five days ago, WHERE WERE YOU I THOUGHT YOU DIED"
(an exaggeration, but it's concerning that she wasn't answering his texts. First thinks its his rotom being a brat - no, Scarnoa just spoils her Rotom too much)
(but also, Arven has LITERALLY had to fish her out of the mud when their paths crossed in that marsh - literally just saw her fall face first like SPLAT, while her Koraidon watches with a guilty look on their face - he now questions her self preservation skills)
because her Rotom kept leaving her phone to eat food - they got distracted by Mesagoza food on the way back to the west gate. Also Scarnoa keeps forgetting she has a dorm, so it's the outdoors life for most of them (They OBVIOUSLY have rest stops scattered throughout the place, around the Pokemon Centers, where you can shower and just wash clothes vhejkvhf jSHHHH)
anyways after ghosting Arven for five days straight, BOOM, big birdy down and then Cassiopeia, getting impatient because every so often, they check on Scarnoa, and she's like...either eating dirt because she SUCKS at stopping on Koraidon or just GETTING DISTRACTED BY FOOD, GOD DAMN HOW MUCH DO YOU EAT.
And just, "You're by this Team Star Base, if you want access to your social media accounts to continue shitposting your misadventures, you got a week to kick that boss's ass"
Scarnoa: Lmao, okay.
She goes over a week anyways because she kept getting distracted and sleeping in. But she still makes it to the base. Cassiopeia has to try harder after that, because now that she KNOWS Scarnoa's Rotom Phone is like SUPER casual after getting spoiled to all hell, she needs to try different tactics. Like "no more wifi for you if you don't make it here - don't make me do it"
and while Scarnoa WOULD forget, her Rotom Phone won't and will start picking up the pace lmaooo.
Anyways Cassiopeia has to literally REMIND Scarnoa that there is a Team Star base by one of the fly points she has registered to her phone, and tells her to use it "PLEASE, for your own sake too."
Anyways that's Scarnoa's first experience with the Squawkabilly Taxi and while unpleasant, she got to pet the birds :V
And while going straight to Mela WOULD be her top priority, Scarnoa got distracted, lost (literally cannot read a fucking map) and ended up in Levincia, where she's all "oh hey, a gym."
Cassiopeia (*cough*Penny*cough) eating ramen in her room, just catching up on anime, when she gets notifications that Iono is streaming another Gym Battle and WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
anyways badge get, Scarnoa's getting popular, with Cassiopeia immediately seeing some red flags and QUICKLY moderating her followers on SIGHT. (SHE NEEDS SCARNOA DAMMIT)
Anyways Clive's the one who drags Scarnoa to Mela that time. Which is hilarious. But also, "Please, I beg of you - TAKE HER TO THIS BASE. She keeps getting LOST."
And oops, Cassiopeia's a little late there, because Clavell was out and about, and after seeing Scarnoa get her third gym badge, after taking down Giacomo, he's like "alright you, that's enough hooky for you. Time to go back to school."
Cassiopeia wondering why they don't just give Scarnoa the equivalent of zoom classes that she's taking. Anyways, as soon as Scarnoa is mcfucking done with her remedial classes, and stuff, her ass is back to Mela and that is REALLY when Arven calls up again, so TIME TO TAKE DOWN A WORM.
And the hilarious thing is, Scarnoa was going to book it IMMEDIATELY to Atticus, but Cassiopeia went "HELL NO, GET ANOTEHR BADGE - idk, Kofu or some shit. Atticus will literally kick your teeth in."
meanwhile Nemona's just dropping by every so often for a battle, somewhat intrigued that Scarnoa is taking the recommended path instead of doing what she did, and strong arming her way through everything and that's how Kofu was her second badge right after Katy...and how Larry ended up as her third badge. :V (she got Brassius and Iono afterwards, and somehow, by chance, she corrected her path with Ryme, Tulip, and Grusha after getting a tip from Geeta, seeing as she has HEARD from Larry about his unconventional challenger)
Nemona: You sure do know your stuff about the recommended path!!
Scarnoa: The what.
(fun fact, I ended up in Tulip's area completely by chance after I was on a fucking around and collecting items spree and oop)
Anyways, again - Scarnoa's priority is badges, but she keeps getting yanked from one place to the next. Eventually, she does start prioritizing Titans at some point, but she then uses her badges to ensure she's strong enough to go into areas that were giving her difficulty...after some "gentle persuasion" from Cassiopeia too, helping her out in that sense because Scarnoa is NOWHERE near ready to take on any of the bosses after Atticus.
(keep in mind, Scarnoa rarely loses, and when she loses, she usually gets her shit kicked in if it's against Wild Pokemon, like Koraidon HAS had to pick her up and GTFO out of there)
(even Arven has to convince her otherwise, since they got their shit kicked in by Tatsugiri and Dondozo)
(he is still very touched that she wants to help him, but his heart honestly can't take anymore risks after one of them NEARLY drowned - Tatsugiri/Dondozo is a deadly duo :V)

Some ❤️‍🔥 Smitten and Stranger perhaps??? Or just friendly, i love these two a lot :)
❤️‍🔥 A romantic headcanon
Hmmmm, I see the vision, but personally can’t imagine them as a romantic pair. So’ll have to go more friendly again lol (can prolly be read as romantic if you want tho)
I can see Smitten getting along really well with their individual alters, and while getting to know them, comes up with affectionate nicknames for them all.
Calls Neutral ‘Limelight’ (because they’re often the one hosting), Soft ‘Dandelion’, Harsh ‘Night Dame’ (they prefer to host at night), Emo ‘Little Cloud’, and Monster ‘Dearest Spark’.
They all really like their nicknames :D

Living Past Your Prime
Oneshot – (FFN) (AO3)
Summary:
Thirty years is an awfully long time to be locked inside another dimension, and it's an awfully long time to be alone. Scott thanked God for the fact that he wasn't either of those things anymore. However, re-adjustment to real life is a little bit difficult.
Scott had always prided himself on his ability to adjust to unfamiliar circumstances.
Growing up? Piece of cake. His parents were superheroes for having dealt with him.
Dealing with his dad's death? That one stung, but he learned to live without his constant guidance. He and his mom knew they'd see him again, even if life without him was difficult.
Becoming a game tester? Not exactly the hardest thing in the world. He figured it out pretty well, and he even got himself a job in testing for Milton Dyer, the greatest game dev in the business!
Getting sucked into Prime Empire? Okay, definitely unfamiliar, but not impossible to cope with. Scott knew games, and games knew him. Assimilating was easy, and hiding out for thirty years wasn't nearly as hard as it seemed. He'd had a few close calls, but he'd made it.
All that said, getting brought back to the real world…?
That one was the hardest change.
When Scott left the world of Prime Empire, it wasn't weird at first. There were all the regular people: Okino, Racer Seven, that one merchant from Main Street in Terra Technica. There was that one guy who insisted he was the greatest racer in Prime Empire, but refused to race in the Speedway Five Billion. There was even a few guys from the League of Jays, blue gis and all (that was all they kept, though, except for their eyebrow slits). They all settled in the same downtown area, in an apartment complex that offered lower rates for Prime Empire refugees.
Scott had no trouble getting an apartment. From what he knew, the government of Ninjago City wanted to make sure everyone from Prime Empire who didn't have a home was safe and sound (and off the streets), so they easily believed that he was one of them. A few assumed he was one of the liberated NPCs, but most thought he was some random guy who had had the poor luck of falling into Prime Empire. For the most part, he didn't try to correct them, since he had other things to think about. That said, he did try to tell a few people the truth...
...In hindsight, telling his neighbors that he was the lost game tester from thirty years ago was a stupid decision. Word had spread like wildfire– "oh hey, that guy who was on FuzzSeed Unsolved? We need an interview!" However, Scott took it all in stride.
It was fine. Everything was fine. Scott was out of Prime Empire, and he had a place to live for the time being. He'd be okay until he could find a better solution.
The first thing Scott did once he'd gotten his temporary apartment was get a proper night's sleep. It wasn't just idling in AFK for eight hours while he daydreamed, since that was the closest thing in Prime Empire! No, it was real sleep, and he'd vowed to never, ever pull an all-nighter, ever again. In the morning, he felt like a new man (and now that he wasn't blue, he looked like one, too).
The second thing Scott did once he'd gotten his apartment was calling his mom.
-----
The payphone Scott was using rang with an irritatingly tinny beep, beep, beep. It was so weird, hearing sounds that weren't carefully crafted SFX, and Scott had to smile. He'd had to ask the apartment staff for quarters for the phone, but they were more than willing to help; everyone seemed to know someone who was affected by the game, so compassion was in spades for the time being.
Scott heaved a sigh as the ringer kept going. He stopped smiling as soon as the call connected.
"Hello? This is Clara DuBois speaking."
Scott took a shaky breath and steeled himself. "Hello?"
"May I ask who I am speaking to?" his mother asked. Ever the professional… the opposite of him.
Scott laughed quietly, and then hoped it didn't transmit. "...Hi. Um… hi Mom. It's Scott. Your son." His heart pounded like the cylinders of an engine, running away in his chest.
His mother gasped. "Scott?!"
Scott laughed again, louder. "Yeah, Mom. It's… it's me."
"First Master, you're okay! Scott!" His mother laughed, breathless and clearly disbelieving. "You- where are you? What happened?"
Scott wiped his eyes. "One question at a time, Mom…" He smiled, but it hurt deep in his chest.
"Okay, um, well, uh–" she stammered. "Scott… where are you? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay." He raked his fingers through his hair; cropped short in the standard-issue Prime Empire military buzz. "I– I'm downtown. By some business called Laughy's Karaoke Bar… wherever that is. The red apartment building next to it."
"Okay. I know where that is." His mother paused. "Scott… what happened to you?"
Scott hesitated. "Heh, well… I was– you know the–" He cut himself off. "Can I explain in person?"
"Of course you can. Of course. Just give me fifteen minutes, okay? Don't go anywhere!" He heard a jingling, like a ring of keys. "I'm coming to you. Stay right there!"
"I will, Mom." He nodded, but she couldn't see him. "I'm not going anywhere– I'll be outside the building."
"Okay, good! I'll be right there!" His mother laughed, breathless. "I promise. I love you, Scott." The call audio cracked in the middle of her sentence, but he understood.
"I love you too, Mom," he responded. "I missed you," he added after a second.
"I missed you too." His mother ended the call, and Scott sagged against the wall, barely putting the phone receiver back in the cracked plastic cradle. He ran his hands through his hair, trying to bring himself back into reality– heh, ironic– so he'd be able to see his mom.
Fifteen minutes blew by faster than he expected. Despite no longer being able to physically disappear, it wasn't too difficult to keep from standing out on the street. Over the course of the last thirty years, things had clearly changed in Ninjago, with new buildings, businesses, and technologies. However, people also dressed differently, and they talked differently too. A lot of it made its way into Prime Empire, but it was still so disorienting– like a new country and language.
Sooner than he expected, his mom's car came up to the side of the street and parked. Just like he remembered, his mother was a stickler for perfect parallel street parking. Her car was a perfect distance from the curb, perfectly parallel, perfectly accurate to what he knew... if it wasn't for the little bit of rust on the front bumper. That was new.
Scott watched as his mother burst from the driver's seat of the car. She was a flurry of short brown hair (now streaked with gray), in a lovely red dress and black flats. She must have come straight from work, or else she wouldn't still be dressed like an accountant. In any case, he got so sucked into his memories that he barely recognized her running towards him.
"Scott!" his mother cried, throwing her arms around him. She hugged him tightly, only for a second before she let go and put her hands on his shoulders. She searched his face. "Scott, you're here! You're okay!"
He had to laugh– a barely-there, empty laugh, filled with shock. "H-hi, Mom…" His vision filled with tears. "I'm back."
His mother laughed, already crying too. "You're here." She smiled, her green eyes sparkling with relief. "I almost thought I'd never see you again– at least, not until, you know." She looked a little hesitant to say too much, as if he'd disappear again, and it hurt.
"Heh, you can't get rid of me that easily," Scott said. He shuffled from one foot to another uncomfortably. He watched her for a few moments as she hastily tried to compose herself. Once she was done, he smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry."
His mother looked at him, first with surprise and then with sorrow. "You're sorry?" She frowned. "Scott, what do you have to be sorry about?"
"I just…" Scott sighed. "I'm so sorry, Mom. I left you alone. I never meant to, I swear!"
"You didn't leave me alone!" She smacked his arm lightly. "The police said you were kidnapped! How could you be responsible for that?!"
He laughed. "Oh, Mom…" He surged forward and hugged her, trying not to cry more. "You have no idea."
"Of course I have no idea!" his mother said, her voice muffled by his shoulder. She rubbed his back. "You need to tell me, but it's okay. I promise it's okay."
"Even if it was all my fault?" he asked, guilt creeping up his spine.
"Even then." She let go of him and kissed his forehead, even though she was at least half a foot shorter than him. "Come on, let's go home. Tell me everything."
Scott nodded weakly. "...Okay." He looked back at the apartment building for a second, then turned back to her. "Let's go home."
His mother smiled and headed back to her car, beckoning that he follow. He did so, getting in the passenger seat– just like he remembered from when he was a teenager, it was just a little too small.
The drive home was quiet, but filled with relief.
-----
Two weeks later, Scott stared up at a different apartment building. This one was green, and easily half the size of the previous one. Every apartment had a tiny balcony, complete with a wrought iron railing and a cheap air conditioning unit in the window. He smiled.
His mother had been more understanding than he ever expected. She hadn't blamed him, or been at all angry. She'd just been relieved that he was okay, and that he was home now. If he was honest, he'd say that he was afraid she'd blame him for everything. Those thoughts had been a near-constant fear in Prime Empire, but now…
Now they were gone.
His mother had smothered him with attention. As soon as they had gotten home, she'd cried and held him, and he felt like a kid again. She had contacted the police, but they'd never found him (obviously). Dyer's game company had smothered all the information regarding his disappearance, and he couldn't blame them. The missing persons report went unused, since nobody saw him, and his mother had been heartbroken. Once everyone returned from Prime Empire, they stopped trying to hide the truth, but it didn't matter anymore.
Now that Scott was back, his mother seemed like her old self. She smiled and laughed at his jokes and stories, and even though there was an undercurrent of sorrow, he couldn't really blame her for it. Her smiles felt real, even though she looked so sad when she pulled out the pictures of his childhood, when they'd had his dad too– in her words, it was all she'd had to go on for the last three decades. She'd made his favorite meal from childhood for dinner, and they spent every evening eating ice cream and talking about what had happened for two weeks straight.
Her life had been different without him. He knew that was true, even before he heard the stories, but afterwards he knew for sure. Clara DuBois was a heartbroken widow, with a missing son, and recently a workaholic. For the first fifteen years or so, she threw herself into her work, until a health emergency made her rethink her priorities. Then she'd thrown herself into less work, with some of it being volunteering at their old church. All the kids knew Mrs. DuBois was the best Sunday School teacher they'd ever had (she brought cookies for them!), and the pastor had gone out of his way to thank her personally. Scott thought he might join her, once he was back on his feet.
If there was one thing he'd missed in Prime Empire, it was going to church. It's hard to find a Bible in a world that was created by an AI with a thirst for bloody justice, and Scott hadn't seen more than a few verses in all of his thirty years.
Of course, when Scott got back, his mother immediately set about helping him get back on his feet. She'd taken time off work, helped him find a job (he was back in the game industry, but as a Borg Industries employee), and helped him find an apartment. He even had a phone and a motorcycle (gifts from some older men at church), with a license to go with them!
Scott's mom had found an apartment that was less than ten minutes away from her own, in a safe area of midtown. It was clean and small, almost totally unfurnished, and just what he wanted. His new job would pay for everything he needed, and a reparations pension from Dyer's company would pay for his utilities for a few months. All in all, he was all set.
Once Scott got used to his new phone, he also found a little surprise on it; an unnamed contact. He'd called it, only to find out that it was a direct line to the Monastery of Spinjitzu. He'd gotten Jay's cell number, and they were supposed to meet up the next week to talk. It was pretty unexpected, but his mom had simply said it was a favor from Mr. Borg and winked at him. In any case, Scott got to keep his only really good friend from Prime Empire. It was a good deal!
All that said, today was the day he needed to think about first. The future would come on its own, and Scott was moving on from the Prime Empire portion of his life. He'd promised his mom that he would visit as much as possible, and he was ready to restart. (If he was a cynic, he'd say he was respawning, but the irony felt a little too tough to swallow as of yet.)
Life after Prime Empire was hard, and the adjustment was weird at best, but Scott knew he'd make it. He'd done it before, and he could do it again. He had help this time! Now that he was back in the real world, with the knowledge that he had his whole life still ahead of him, he was sure he'd make the most of it. No more wasting his life– Scott DuBois was freely living past his prime.

I never ever care about how the science fiction premise works; I promise, from the bottom of my heart, to believe in the explanation of absolutely anything you tell me, even if the explanation is "I don't even feel like explaining it." Science fiction or fantasy isn't even a good way to describe Dangan Ronpa; it's just pure Anime, reality cartoonishly distorted in ways that will make feel real. My earnest belief is that science fiction or fantasy should do the same, alter reality only insofar as it brings out the truth reality can't bear. I have no use for explanations that don't offer me that.

Fanfic update no one asked for on Mother's Day:
I have three open WIP tabs. Anne/Gilbert AOGG about how Gilbert learns more details about Anne's life before Green Gables, rare pair Una Meredith/Secret Person so I don't spoil you all but it's not Walter Blythe post WWI second chance romance, and a Crescent Moon Darklina AU chapter AT LONG LAST.
I also have a Mary Vance/Jem Blythe fic that needs some final tweaks but will probably go up this week as well as my Dramione cottage core comfort fic which may or may not be done, depending on my mood (and my propensity to do an epilogue to really winds it up.)
Happy Mother's Day! Make sure you're registered to vote!

Hey wait, I should repost (and elaborate on) my observations and headcanons that I was posting on twitter while the Redfall account was posting promo videos leading up to launch. Leaving out the now-obvious theorizing and cult symbol recognition, it's mostly...no, uh, it's all just Devinder stuff, whoops. (His primary outfit still baffles me in some ways. Also, adding a few things I've noticed in-game so far.)
First, observations:
he's got sharply-square-toed calf-boots (in all his outfits, but especially the default) and I am thoroughly jealous perfect blend of practical with formal vibes, amazing shape without giving up the traction of a good rubber boot sole I NEED THEM
he has three stickers on the back of his phone (in the announcement trailer): one like his UK Cryptid Association patch, one that's a cartoony caped vampire with sunglasses, trying to hide from some bright flashes that says "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY," and a round one with a simple eye that says "TRUTH SEEKER" along the top (and has a sentence around the bottom, but it's too small and blurry for me to make out, to my eternal lamentations)
his buttons are on the "wrong" side of his shirt when his collar is open (but with the attention to detail otherwise present from the devs, and the fact that they're like that in-game AND the announcement trailer, perhaps it was deliberate and they're magnetic buttons?)
he doesn't appear to be using belt loops in his hero trailer (though he definitely does in the Casual Hunter outfit, so they just probably weren't on that fancy model)
his standard belt is nylon with a quick-release buckle, which is also the buckle style on his backpacks (including the leather one)
his Dapper outfit has a nerdy leather shoulder harness with two pouches, one for his cell phone on his left side, and a paper journal with pen on the right (which would be hidden if he wore a jacket, but per the description of the outfit, "no jacket required")
while there are buckles on the front of said harness, there's also lobster-claw clasps on the back as an alternate release mechanism and very subtle pun
his primary outfit's gloves have a small gold fleur-de-lis printed on the end of the velcro strap, whereas his dapper outfit has driver's gloves with a snap strap
he has orange gloves(?) in his primary outfit, under his leather gloves, which are at least long enough to go well under his sleeves so no skin peeks out (what is this? why does he seem to have layered gloves? are they neat-colored compression gloves? or does he have ballroom-length gloves that match his silk scarf "a gift from [his] parents" awwww, so he can just doff the jacket and leather gloves at any time for a quick dapper look? presumably not, since he removes them for his casual outfit, but I just ??? truly baffling)
attended New College in Oxford doing the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) course (which is apparently a 3-year thing), plus spending "the better part of a decade" cryptid-hunting...if we assume he started hunting after finishing his schooling, and that range being around 7-10 years, he's probably...somewhere between 28-31, maybe? could be younger if there's overlap between them, could be older if he didn't immediately dive directly into each thing
calls his viewers "Dev-iners" how cute is that I love it
seems to be titling his adventures in Redfall as "Delving Into Darkness"
clearly a Doctor Who fan (quotes include "allons-y!" after falling, and "don't blink" when he uses his Blacklight—and his first dapper suit being blue-and-brown could also be a subtle reference along with the fact that he has both a wristwatch and a pocketwatch as a potential "time lord" reference, unless that chain attaches to some other nerdy trinket)
he has written and recorded notes as the descriptions of two legendary weapons (that I've seen), as follows:
Clacker (electric pistol, blue and yellow funky little thing):
Hey Remi! I don't know where you found this thing, looks like it was assembled by an Elwetritsch after a 3 day bender. One of those cultists with more thumbs than sense, no doubt. But I pulled it apart and fixed up a few contacts so the chance of fatally shocking yourself is minimized (note my word choice). Now it's like a little cousin to my Javelin. You know, it's kind of cute now that I'm looking at it. -- D
Snipe Hunter (stake launcher, an unpainted version of what he had in the announcement trailer, with sharpie-scribbled notes in several places on it):
Crousley Tapes (Private) Cortana Suggested Title: "It's a cloudy day and I'm thinking of my mum" [VOICE REC BEGINS] "Note to self, something to file away for later. Whenever it turns foggy like this, like sodden grey cotton, I think of mum. When I was a kid she said that I had a big imagination. Unlike a lot of people, she meant it as a compliment. I saw things, things other people simply missed. But she told me to always trust myself. Sounds easy, but every day since then I've tried to live up to that." [VOICE REC ENDS]
Which leads to: headcanons!
he's the oldest in the group (because Jacob's timeline is fuzzier to me, and Jacob asking "your parents okay with these little field trips of yours?" in Dev's hero trailer is SO much funnier to me if Dev's the oldest)
has chronic pain in (at least) his hands (possibly from piano plus frequent fiddly tinkering, or just General Fuckery that happens for some folks regardless of age—and I assume it's mild to moderate/otherwise fluctuates, since he's clearly not slowing down with tinkering, and is capable of at least short tunes on piano)
specific reasoning/potential evidence for the above includes but is not necessarily limited to: possible compression gloves, quick-release buckles, maybe magnetic buttons, plus the clasps on the back of his nerdy dapper harness (they may be how he does easier release when he struggles with the buckles? assuming his other joints aren't borked, because they're behind him? I'm less clear on if they're actually practical though)
neurodivergent as all get-out (is this even a headcanon, it feels like it's been self-evident from the second he showed up, though the specifics are up to interpretation)
trans/nonbinary because why not, I'm already out here projecting, and he layers enough for the vibe, also "TRANSlocator" puns
bi? ace? monsterfucker? etc.? I don't know, I need to see if anything specific comes up in dialogue at all but he is just so very queer as is the whole cast it's great
he clearly used some research he did into the psychic Nests(/the dream-like Trance) to create his (literally-)dreamy Quantum Kerfuffle decoy (the final Translocator skill), because holy SHIT does that thing draw in every vampire within what I swear is the same radius a Nest covers, it's the most beautiful hazard on the entire island

for the ask game: 🧸 tsuba + tsurubami (if you want!), 👽 tenkai
(TW: There's a brief mention of child abuse and quite a bit of murder in Tsurubami's section. I mean, it's a theory of mine about the backstory of a dictator, so...)
🧸 Tsubakura
Strange things have followed Tsubakura around for as long as they can remember. Not just their own weirdness (though it did drive their parents up a wall once they started experimenting on themself), but actual supernatural things. These things range from very minor like watching Mom's pen levitate without her ever noticing, to as huge as getting an airhead who's almost certainly from another dimension right on their doorstep somehow (they aren't even sure either!).
These happenings are usually more an amusing inconvenience to Tsubakura. But sometimes, sometimes, they can't help but wonder. Their grandfather had made sure to teach them all he knew about traditional shrinely duties, and sometimes they swear ink seems to move when they are around. Perhaps that is why they latched particularly hard into the exploration of a possible Land of Non-Humans? Not that it matters anymore to them, now that it is far too late to turn back...
🧸 Tsurubami
Tsurubami does not talk about their past too often. They don't even like to think about it too much, actually. But if, assuming you were one of the very few they were close to, they had one word to describe it, that one word would be "stifling."
Sometimes, they talk about many siblings. They talk of the condescending attitude many, even the priest before them themself, took towards their own ability, seeing it as ill-suited for the family line. And very rarely, and only if they were particularly angry (the kind that causes blood to shed), they may mention lashes and being forced to write with broken fingers as a kid as a final warning to certain... condescending rebels.
Not even Tenkai knows every detail. But if there's one thing that is well known about their past, it is that the former priest was quite gruesomely disposed of when Tsurubami eventually overthrew them. Well, that and all the deaths of their siblings, but all mentioning those in particular does is net one a waggle of a couple fingers and a sinister grin.
No one ever underestimated their ability ever again after that.
👽 Tenkai
Tenkai is very, very meticulous about their hair. A lot of barrier builders from Azumaterasu are particular about their appearances, but Tenkai is... unique, in that they care little for fashion and care plenty for keeping their hair free of tangles and frizz. They could easily spend hours on it if not for their duties or, more recently, really bothersome and clingy youkai getting in the way.
Many an investigation has been cut short due to their hair getting soaked with mud in the past. And sometimes it's just the ends of their hair. When Tsurubami was still around, they would often ruffle Tenkai's hair because they found their reaction utterly hilarious and because their hair is so soft. (Well, that and they enjoy being one of very few people allowed to touch Tenkai's hair in the first place.)
Nowadays though, Sukune has tried to fill that role (Key word: tried), but in the end Tenkai mostly takes to playing with their hair when stressed. They find themself longing for Tsurubami's hand in their hair, even though they found it most annoying before, for some strange reason. Oh well. Hopefully they'll be back soon...

Aspect Basic Powers (LOTARH Edition)
Time: Traveling through the session's timeline. (Time players get additional powers to directly manipulate the timeline based on class, but all of them can jump through time.) A good sense of timing and rhythm overall.
Space: High spatial awareness/spatial reasoning and dexterity. Almost always dedicated to a creative hobby, or at least one where they make things that can be touched, with a hobbyist's level of skill or higher. (Sculpture? Engineering? Model-building?)
Light: Hyperfixation, curiosity, and so, so much knowledge. The players that would infodump and follow it up with "yeah I have so much useless knowledge", except these things have a way of coming in handy. Especially for Light players.
Void: They just get epiphanies sometimes. Also, as a passive power (a class's power can enhance this), they are remarkably hard to spy on. Any surveillance that targets them always winds up blacked out or otherwise useless.
Blood: Natural leaders and motivators. They either know everyone in the session and what they need to hear, or figure it out fast. They also make attachments with consorts, carapacians, and other game characters very easily.
Breath: They always know an escape route, large-scale attacks tend to find them on the fringes or ignore them, and attempts to track them persistently fail. Also, unlike other players, they get the power to fly before they reach God Tier.
Heart: A strong sense of who they are and what their role in this is, and how to adapt their long-honed skills to the Game. Their "basic powers" are highly personalized by player, but their Unique Traits tend to be more brokenly OP than those of other aspects.
Mind: Clever, strategy-minded folks, who have a thing for recursion. They can easily think out other people's perspectives and choices - what a given situation looks like from their end, what decisions they would make, and what that means for the Mind player.
Hope: Plot armor. Seriously, as long as they believe they have more to contribute, nothing can stop them but a Heroic or Just death, and even that is hard to scrape through. (This applies long before they reach God Tier.) Their class powers, weapon efficacy, and gear durability also scale with their belief.
Rage: High resistance to Grimdarkness, mind control, and direct corrupting influences. They also have a similar power multiplier to Hope players, except it scales with their fury. It affects their class powers, weapon durability, and all forms of attack damage.
Life: Good health and physical condition - depending on class, they may have the peak physical abilities of their species. They have a high base HP, and heal from wounds, poison, and illnesses faster than other players.
Doom: Background knowledge about Sburb, and the ability to uncover more. They know exactly what rules can and can't be broken - and which ones are subject to bending, exploits, and cheese strats. They also have a way of cheating death.

I feel like now is a good time to mention that the leading headcanon in this house is that Vraska is a trans woman so....
What I'm trying to say is that my wife and I project onto everything and Jace and Vraska are t4t.
