Roll Camera... Action!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings: 18+ MINORS DNI! piv, fingering, oral (f receiving) pairing: Hayden Christensen x fem!reader summary: filming a sex scene with your hot dilf co-star... and a little more, too. a/n: s/o to @tracymbcm for the idea!! also, I hate how I ended this. It's kinda shitty but it's 7am, and I've been up since yesterday w no sleep, so pretend the ending is good. mwah!
You had been collaborating with Hayden for some time on the set of your latest film. It was a love story featuring an older man and a young woman in her twenties, who develop a romantic relationship over several months. The chemistry was palpable on screen, which was a reflection of an even stronger connection behind the scenes.
Subtle exchanges began to occur on set, such as affectionate touches on the arm or him endearingly calling you names like "doll," "Babygirl," or "pretty." Initially, it seemed like friendly gestures, but over time, it blossomed into a real fondness and connection. You found yourself sharing secrets with Hayden, spending nights talking, lying in bed pondering a relationship with him, enjoying lunches together, and borrowing his sweatshirts during the chilly moments on set.
"Come on, let's go!" you hear Hayden knocking on the door to your trailer. You open the door and see him standing there in his robe, sporting a broad, cheeky smile.
"Don't give me that look, Hay," you say with a laugh, closing the door behind you. He had been teasing you all week about the upcoming scene, and today was finally the day. "I know you've been anticipating this, so no blaming me," you tease back as you both ride the golf cart to the studio.
"You seem nervous," he said, nudging you playfully. "I'm sure you'll look equally as hot if not hotter than usual."
You roll your eyes, trying to hide your blush. "Seriously, Hayden, be quiet."
Finally, you make your way to the studio and step onto the set. Part of you feels a bit nervous, just as Hayden had teased, but the other half is brimming with excitement. He has been your celebrity crush for ages, and working with him is like living a dream you never want to end—especially since this scene is the highlight.
"Take your places, guys!" you hear the director announce over the loudspeaker. You and Hayden walk to the set, and as expected, Hayden gets straight to the point. He drops his robe, and your jaw goes with it. "Wow." the only word that courses through your brain as you scan his figure. Not what you had in mind for a forty-year-old man, but you also weren't complaining. You had some idea of what he looked like under his clothes, but this? Wasn't even close to the idea you had conjured up in your brain.
You remained transfixed until the director's shrill voice over the loudspeaker jolted you. "Disrobe and take your places!" you hear once more from the loudspeaker. You drop your robe, watching as Hayden's eyes meticulously scan your body. All of your inhibitions suddenly leave, as he watches you. You both assume your positions on the bed, locking eyes. An unspoken tension hangs between you, so tangible that even the director senses it.
"Rolling… Action!" comes the director's call, and you instantly spring into character for the camera. "How much did you really miss me?" you ask flirtatiously. Although it was meant to be an act, it didn't quite feel like one. The way his hands caressed your hips, and his gaze intense, a clear sign of genuine passion. "How about I just show you…" he whispered softly tracing gentle circles around your hip with his finger. Before you could process your next move, his lips crashed into yours. "Was that in the stage directions?" you wondered to yourself, but it didn't matter, you wanted this, just like he did.
His hands roamed effortlessly, not leaving a single inch of you undiscovered. For a moment, you forget you're working, it feels like you're the only two in the room, your body responding naturally to the feeling of him.
"Cut!" comes the call from behind. "That's great, but remember, there are more lines you need to say, guys!" your director remarks with his characteristic smug tone. It's an open secret on set that there are genuine feelings between you and Hayden—feelings that both of you consistently deny.
"Ugh" you groan rolling off of him, checking over your script for the next line. You wanted to just skip past all the lines, to the part where you got to kiss him again, he was such a good kisser too, the experience definitely showed in that previous performance. After a quick skim of your lines, you settle in for the second take. "Take 2... action!"
"How much did you really miss me? you flirt, this time, even more sultry and seductive than the last. "How about I just show you…" he repeats. "Then do it," you recite the line you had forgotten in the heat of the moment previously. With a newfound passion, the kiss is hungrier, more feverish and sloppier. "I missed the way you taste" he mutters. That's definitely not in the script, but the director didn't stop him, so you rolled with it. The words began to flow effortlessly as the scene progressed.
"I need you so bad." you mutter breathlessly as he rolls on top of you. "I know." he flirts back, kissing your neck passionately. His kisses were fierce and aggressive, sure to leave a hickey or two behind. The moans flowed naturally, I mean sure the sex was fake, but the kissing, the touching, and the moans, were very real. The grinding, and thrusting started, "Why the fuck is this fake, I wanna feel him." you thought to yourself.
"You feel so good." you moan following in motion with the script. "You feel even better." he responds eagerly, his hands roaming your body fiercely.
"How does he fake fuck so well?" you think to yourself. "I mean, I have seen his other movies... but man I need to actually fuck him... and like... right now." you repeated in your mind.
"Cut! Great job guys... let's take 30 while I make a few changes to the script." You lay there for a few moments, processing what the fuck just happened. Hayden rolls off of you, promptly putting on his robe, in a poor attempt to conceal his excitement. You follow suit, throwing on your robe and taking a seat.
"Coffee? or maybe tequila to calm your nerves." Hayden teases you.
"Tequila would be better... got some in my trailer if your down for a drink this early." You speak, attempting to maintain a calm and casual demeanor.
"Yeah, let's go," he suggests, walking side by side with him out of the studio.
The ride back to your trailers feels like an eternity, you finally knew what he looked like under his clothes and your mind was running wild. You could catch him stealing glances from the corner of your eye, and his altered body language conveyed all you needed to know about his thoughts. He trails into your trailer and closes the door. The tension mounts instantly with the sound of the door clicking shut.
You turn to him, the intentions you both have for each other are clear. he approaches you slowly, undoing the knot in your belt and slipping your robe off your shoulders. "I don't know what the fuck is happening, but I like it." your thoughts race as his deep blue eyes take in the sight of you.
"I think we should..." he trails off, while tracing circles around your shoulder "Go over the scene again, you know for good measure." he mutters, his voice low and seductive.
"Me too… but with a bit more… reality," you say, locking eyes with him. The genuine connection they shared was finally reaching its peak, and damn it was sweet. "All I can think about is how your fingers would feel deep in my pussy right now." you whisper seductively in his ear.
"Fuck..." Hayden muttered softly, his cock throbbing achingly as his mind repeated your words over and over. Grabbing your face, his lips crashed into yours a trail of sloppy wet kisses followed. You both wanted this for so long and it was finally happening.
"You don't know how bad I've wanted this." you say between kisses, as he lifts you into his arms. You instinctively wrap your legs around his waist while he carries you to the plush pink couch that decorated your trailer. "I've seen the way you look at me, and I know how bad you want this." Hayden retorts playfully
"I've seen the way you look at me, I know how bad you want this, Hay." you tease back, running your fingers through his hair. His kisses were like an addiction, a feeling you never wanted to quit. His hands continue his discovery from earlier on the set, pushing the limits of your "just co-stars" relationship.
He trails his middle finger up and down your wet folds, teasing your throbbing clit and dripping entrance with his finger. "This okay?" he whispers softly against your neck.
"Mm, more than okay" you choke out softly. The actual feeling of his fingers was 10x better than the fantasy you created in your head.
"Spread your legs for me doll" he requests kindly, even in the most intimate moments he was gentle and respectful, which made you want him to ravage your insides with his cock even more. He marvels at your cleanly shaved pussy, slowly sliding his entire middle finger inside. "So pretty, so perfect" he mumbles, watching your reaction closely.
"Fuck, Hayden..." you softly mutter, leaning your head back against the couch. "That feels... so good" you moan softly as he slips another finger inside, slowly pumping them in and out of your aching sex.
"Yeah? you like that pretty girl?" the way he always praised you for little things set you on fire. You always knew you had a thing for older guys, but Hayden gave you a whole new perspective.
As the sensation grew, you could feel your body responding to him, writhing and grinding against his fingers as he continued to pleasure you, "Mm, don't stop." you moan softly. The pace of his fingers inside you increased with every cry and whimper that escaped your lips. He trailed soft kisses down your inner thighs before sucking your swollen clit into his mouth.
"Yes! fuck fuck" you cry out, gripping the couch cushion as his tongue assaulted your leaking sex. The combination of his experienced mouth and fingers sent you over the edge. the soft vibration of his deep voice against your pussy heightened the feeling.
"You taste so good." Hayden says, his voice low and seductive. "Look at you, all sensitive and wet for me... I like that." his words send shivers down your spine, "How the fuck did he always know what to say to you?" your thoughts jumbled together with the feeling of him all over your body.
"So close Hay... so fucking close" you moan loudly, shoving his face further into your needy pussy.
"Not yet baby, not yet" he stops abruptly, removing his wet fingers from your pussy. "Look at that... good girl." he says admiring your wetness on his fingers. "Here, taste." he shoves his fingers into your mouth, pumping them in and out until you lick them clean. "You taste so good, don't you? Yeah... you do." he coos.
You feel your pussy throb knowing his thick erect cock will be inside you soon. He lays you flat on the couch and positions himself over you. Something about him towering over you, about to ravage your insides made him look so fucking hot! He teases your clit and entrance with the head of his pre-cum coated cock before pushing in slowly. Gripping your hips with one hand and pinning your arms above your head with the other.
"Oh fuck..." you gasp attempting to adjust to his size. For an old man, he's certainly still got it. The way his eyes never left yours as he thrusted into you made the sex feel like more than just sex, like he wanted to build a deep connection with you, outside of work-related interactions.
"So tight, so wet" Hayden murmurs against your lips. His pace increasing as your walls grip him tightly. "You feel so fucking amazing." He huffs, drilling deeper into you.
"I wanted this for so so long, Hay." you whimper loudly. The sounds of your simultaneous moans and slapping skin fill the air. He feels even better than you imagined, typical, your fantasies were always way off.
"Yeah? you waited so long to fuck me?" he grunts, rapidly increasing the pace of his thrusts. His passion was fueled by your admissions to lusting for him. "Please... please don't stop Hayden" you yelp in a pleasure-filled cry.
Hayden's hands grip your hips tightly, pulling your closer with each forceful thrust. "I'm gonna cum, fuck I'm gonna cum soon Hay." you whimper, your body becoming putty in his grip. His blue eyes beaming down into yours, meticulously studying your reactions to the feeling of him inside you.
"That's it, be a good girl and cum for me... alright? Can you do that?" he grunts, his thrusts becoming more erratic. He was nearing the edge too but tried to keep his composure.
Your body arches naturally as your orgasm crashes into you. You grip his arm tightly, nails digging into the skin as he continues to fuck you relentlessly. "Fuck, don't stop Hayden I'm cumming, oh god!" you scream. Your moans only seemed to fuel his passion, as he slammed into you over and over.
"That's it baby! Cum for me, pretty! I'm close too baby" he grunts lowly, his cock twitching inside you with an immense release. "Oh fuck, you feel so fucking good baby!" he moans against your lips as he pumps his warm, sticky cum into you, coating your walls with his seed, an experience you relived in your brain over and over before this moment.
Your bodies shuttering as your climaxes ripple through you both. You lie under him, dazed, twitching, and breathing heavily. "You did so well, doll." he praises, planting a long lingering kiss on your lips. "Just like I knew you would."
"That was fucking amazing." you mutter, trying to process what just happened. "I can't believe we actually just did that..." you laugh, still not completely done processing the situation. After a cleanup, you return to the studio, hand in hand. The "post-coital afterglow" still lingering on your faces.
"Take your places, guys!" the director's voice rings out sharply. This time, the scene was captured in a single take, as you were no longer just acting.

excerpts about yibo from global times newspaper article about formed police unit. 📝
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shootouts, explosions, chases, rescues... the film highly restores the real experiences and thrilling scenes of the peacekeeping police. Recently, "Global Times" conducted an exclusive interview with the film's leading actors Huang Jingyu and Wang Yibo. They shared with reporters their various feelings and behind-the-scenes stories during the filming.
Wang Yibo told reporters that the crew specially invited a police officer who has served for 16 years and participated in peacekeeping operations twice to guide the filming.
In recent years, Wang Yibo's performance in "Born to Fly" and "Being A Hero" has allowed the audience to see his high adaptability to the roles of soldiers and policemen. This time, he played the role of Yang Zhen, a sniper of the Chinese peacekeeping anti-riot team, in "Formed Police Unit", when asked about the opportunity to participate, Wang Yibo told reporters, "At that time, I had just finished filming "Being A Hero", and I received an invitation to "Formed Police Unit". I think the peacekeeping police are a very special type of police that I have never been exposed to, and I also like the character of Yang Zhen, who is impulsive, but eventually grows."
Wang Yibo as Yang Zhen
From misunderstanding the captain who is silent to fighting side by side with him and reaching reconciliation, Wang Yibo has witnessed Yang Zhen's growth and transformation all the way. In fact, Yang Zhen's ability is very strong, confident, proud, and driven, and he always wanted to show himself when he first arrived at the team. He has always taken his father (played by Zhu Yawen) as an example, his father is Yu Weidong's teammate, Yang Zhen saw them go on a mission together when he was a child, but his father never came back, so he also misunderstood Yu Weidong. ”
Talking about Yang Zhen's changes, Wang Yibo said: "He has experienced a lot in the team, experiencing the captain's desperate efforts to save hostages, and his comrades being trained after being injured, Yang Zhen slowly understood that it is not easy for the peacekeeping police, so he talked with the captain during the Spring Festival, untied the knot, and also grown."
For Yu Weidong, Yang Zhen is a teammate and a family member, and he seems to be harsh on Yang Zhen, but in fact he has good intentions. In Huang Jingyu's view, Yu Weidong is not only a police officer and captain who adheres to the principle of peacekeeping, but also an elder brother who is heartbroken for his younger brothers, shouldering many responsibilities.
What impressed Huang Jingyu and Wang Yibo the most was that they ran back from the bridge in the storm, and tiles and iron sheets kept falling from the surrounding roofs. Wang Yibo said: "It was the scene where the captain went to save me, because it was necessary to simulate the scene of the wind coming out, so the crew pulled the tiles and iron sheets on the roof on the line and dragged them up with a crane, and the scene was very big."
Huang Jingyu recalled: "My impression is that there are countless steel wires, all connected to a gravity point, and you need to blow up the gravity point to lift everything, even the house. ”
The two also shared interesting stories about getting along with foreign actors on the set. Wang Yibo said: "African friends really like to sing and dance, or the Spring Festival scene, we are on patrol, they are singing and dancing. Huang Jingyu also remembers the scene of singing and dancing at that time, "They knocked on the bucket and started to dance."
When asked about the role he wanted to challenge next, Wang Yibo said that he didn't want to set limits for himself, "Look at the theme and role, I don't want to fix it, I have to do it, many new roles can be done”

List of Dsaf Headcanons
Tumblr media
Um this will almost constantly be updated so check frequently,,, also most of these aren't simple headcanons and might contain some graphic detail so be warned,,,
Dave smiles with all of his teeth cause Henry used to do that and he just thinks it's normal
Dave and Henry share similar shadows due to similar ideals, due to what Henry had taught Dave. Dave was often kept in the dark to Henry's plans, so the shadowing on Dave is only around his face and not his body. (ie picture below)
Legacy Jack has similar face shadows, but they cover both of his eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Jack and Dave's eyelights stop working whenever their startled, (ie image below) and are colored, (Jack's eyelights are blue, while Dave's are yellowish orange.) Henry mostly lacks eyelights but his would be green.
Tumblr media
5. Ironically, Dave hates slasher films, not cause he's scared, but because he thinks the characters are really stupid. Other than Friday the 13th. Dave actively watches that franchise
6. Due to Dave's lack of vital organs, and yet ability to still, Function as a human being, all of his muscle growth had came generally around before his first death, as he can no longer gain muscle.
7. Jack has similar issues but he stops having the ability to gain muscle somewhere around dsaf 3.
8. The undead in this universe do not rot quickly, it's relatively slow. Another (General) headcanon to add onto this, the also undead do not heal quickly.
9. Dave and Jack first properly met when Dave had unintentionally thrown a handcrank square into Jack's face. Dave does not remember this event, Jack on the other hand, does remember.
10. Additionally, that event had damaged Jack's face that badly mostly due to his rot making his skin weak. Thusly the stitches around his eye & non-working eyelight. If we was alive, he probably would have only gotten away with two less teeth and a broken nose.
11. The Kennedy's were a catholic household before Jack's parents died, Jack stopped believing that God was real until the real fredbear had "saved" his body from death. Jack is now generally agnostic now.
12. Blackjack is deeply philosophical, but has no one to talk to but himself. (Another universe based headcanon) Souls soon tend to speak in unintelligible ciphers as they soon don't remember what tongue they originally spoke in. Only really Jack has clear idea of how Blackjack and Dee speak, any other spirit he only has a general idea of what they’re saying.
13. Dave knows a quite a bit of medical knowledge off the top of his head due to Henry, but always follows it up with "but I might be wrong/don't quote me on that"
14. Henry out of sprite is just, incredibly sunburnt,, ie the pink. Or at least thats his assumption. He looks relatively normal other than that. Tldr he's just as oddly colored as Jack and Dave. There's no hiding his ghoulish soul, so it's only fair that he's portrayed as such.
15. Jack had always wanted to be honest to Dave, not just about his connected past but overall about his complicated feelings he has towards Dave. Jack never really had the time to do so, regardless of timeline, Dave was always too preoccupied with his plans for the two to have a proper chat about it.

What do you see in turbo
- unhinged angry little weirdo (desirable) (?????)
- stupid outfit & stupid catchphrase (disgustingly endearing)
- something is genuinely wrong with him
- creepy/distinctive glow in the dark face. Yellow eyed freak ! I also like teeth
- I LOVE VILLAINS. His reveal scene is so dramatic and cool.
- virus/corruption adjacent entity. Parasitizes others… He’s pulling the strings … Glitching is awesome btw it’s like one of my favorite audiovisual effects ever
- 2012 video game creepypasta energy. He’s like Polybius but stupid. TurboTime is haunted. He is Cabinet Man
- Retro arcade cabinets are just such Awesome Machines. It’s such a unique aesthetic, buzzy CRTs and flashing colorful lights, the little chiptune sound effects… the only thing that comes close to the ‘character’ embodied by arcade cabinets is maybe themed roller coasters, or real life animatronics. He definitely has that kind of appeal. The Machine
- HAVE YOU SEEN HIS CYBUG FORM ITS COOL AS FUCK HE LITERALLY TRANSFORMS INTO A GIANT ROBOTIC INSECTOID MALWARE ABOMINATION INFUSED WITH CANDY WHAT THE FUCK??????
- wreck it ralph is an amazing film and king candy is a really clever villain and I love the twist and how he relates to king candy (most normal answer)
- THE HORROR APPEAL. His Symbolism…. He’s the Creepy Ghostly Skull man . The bringer of death even. Also the fact “haunts the narrative” because he’s so rarely seen but everyone is terrified of him, and he underlies so much of the conflict. (Like: DONT BECOME LIKE HIM.) It’s like he’s become a paranormal entity, only seen in glimpses, or dismissed as nothing but a terrible memory. His presence has become intangible, but it’s dark and all encompassing. Maybe they tried to forget. For 25 years they thought he was dead. But he was lurking in the depths of game central station hearing everything. (Don’t even get me started on the horror implications of his cybug form because Oh My God)
- but most importantly I have a personal vendetta against him because he gave me nightmares at age 14 and I also kin him slightly
- he is rotten trans man

Christopher Nolan making movies: I'm gonna make a film that is so confusing and non-linear
#just watched memento :DDDDD#which i think would be his first bigger movie?#but it was so interesting bcs there were a lot of concepts in it that are so visible in his later films#like watching that after watching almost all of his most recent films was such an 'aha!' moment#lthe whole black&white vs in-color to delineate which part of the story we're in#in memento: black and white is the beginning of the story and then in-color is the rest of the story going backwards#and then he uses that concept again in oppenheimer but b&w is the current events and color is everything leading up to that and after#like yeah its really confusing first time around because you dont know that fully yet but then at the end its like OH!!!!!#and then both also have other stuff interspersed btwn those two sections that you only reallly understand by the end#and then with the plot going backwards. that was the same as tenet right?#like starting with the end of the story and them ending with the beginning of the story#i cant remember inception well enough atm but im sure it has traits of memento as well#his movies are like puzzles ig! like you really have to keep track of all the details and what takes place when#i think theyre really fun bcs more and more becomes clear to you#im not sure what the most confusing nolan movie is hmmmm probably tenet or inception right?#oppenheimer: much more clear in general since its following literal historical events but just in a non linear manner#the only real reason i found it a bit confusing is bcs i didnt know a lot of the characters and also was trying to figure out the timeline#and then interstellar is more just confusing in concept bcs it has to do with time in the 4th dimension and all that#but i think the story is pretty understandable its just hard to wrap your head around the different time/dimension concepts#then again....ive watched it probably more than 4 times by now! ITS ONE OF MY FAV MOVIES EVER#cant say much abt the batman movies bcs they have nolan concepts but arent really like his other stuff#haha someones said he did those movies so he could make absolute bank and then have a blank check to do whatever movies he wants#and someone also said that oppenheimer felt like memento and thats so so so true!!!#its cool that he can make the movies he wants. bcs as i said watching memento really outlines very well what concepts he likes#watching it was weird bcs im like oh yeah this is *so* christopher nolan and then realize this is literally only his second film#i need to rewatch inception and dunkirk and see if i can spot inspo from Memento in them#anyways: yay film!!! yay cinema!!!!!! movies are so fun!!!!!!#catie.rambling.txt

Night Key (1937)
"Now, listen, Steve. Twenty years ago you robbed me of the patent rights of the system that you're now using. Perhaps there was some excuse for that: because it gave you wealth, success, position, all the things that tempt one man to rob another. But now that you have everything and I have nothing, what possible reason is there for you to do this to me again?"
#night key#lloyd corrigan#1937#boris karloff#tristram tupper#jack moffitt#william a. pierce#warren hull#jean rogers#alan baxter#hobart cavanaugh#samuel s. hinds#david oliver#ward bond#frank reicher#edwin maxwell#george cleveland#george humbert#charles c. wilson#light hearted karloff vehicle which doesn't really deserve the sci fi label it's been given; yes‚ BK is an inventor of slightly fantastical#gadgets‚ but mostly this film is concerned with big business skullduggery with a side of organised crime. Karloff‚ as he often did‚ is#playing older than he was but he's very good and highly sympathetic as the doddery old prof. there's lots of good performances here‚ from#Jean Rogers' charming daughter to Warren Hull's romantic interest (much less tiresome than the usual role fillers in these movies) and#special mention to Hobart C as a delightfully seedy smalltime crook who attaches himself to BK like a stray dog. the only dud note is#Alan Baxter's weirdly monotone turn as the big bad‚ lacking any of the threat the character needs. the ending is twee and silly and there's#some (understandably) shaky fx work but this is genuinely a very fun time and a pleasant change from the usual Karloff vehicle of the era#one jarring moment: there's a very brief moment where a plot related news bulletin is heard on the radio‚ and as soon as it's finished the#news announcer begins to turn to the 'news from Spain' but the radio is switched off and the film moves on before we hear any more; this is#1937 remember‚ a moment of global tumult and thick in the gathering storm of the years to come but this is the only moment that the real#world is allowed to intrude into the charming and slighty silly world of eccentric inventors and sinister crooks

so you're telling me that I have to now tolerate sigmafied edits of Ranbir Kapoor in Animal being a chauvinist abuser to his onscreen wife and killing hundreds of people for his "love" for his emotionally absent shitty father?? as if watching sigma edits of Kabir Singh and American Psycho was not enough?
#does the director not realise that this is the Tate era for young boys trying to figure out masculinity?#and that glorifying these characters is literally the worst thing he could do in this time#I'm pretty sure he realises because there's no way you make a movie justifying literally the worst traits a human being could literally#possess by saying “he doesn't think he acts on impulse that's why the movie is called animal” so he's mentally ill then? he's a psychopath#and needs help? is what you're saying#ki he doesn't have cognitive thinking ability so that must mean he needs therapy first and foremost?#but no#Vangaa went and depicted this trainwreck of a character as a “traditional man” and an “alpha male”#and the justification for this is “this movie is about violence”#bro...making a movie about violence does not mean making a movie glorifying violence it means showing how fucked up violence is and that it#has consequences#ab kuch bolo toh ppl will say “tum feminist log ko har cheez se problem hai it's just an action movie bro”#like ??????? so?????#action movie bana raha hu bolke literally kuch bhi glorify karoge random kuch bhi rage bait mysoginist dialogues doge and then#put dialogues insinuating that this is what a “real man” behaves like#bhai thik hai banao violent movie banao action movie even make an antihero film sab thik hai but when you start treating the character of#the antihero like a hero that's where the problem starts#american psycho and joker and all these films me at least there was some acknowledgement ki the characters are WRONG and MESSED UP phir bhi#random 14 year olds and mentally stunted tatefans make sigma edits of these characters#aur idhar toh no acknowledgement only as if he's encouraging young boys to see this character and make it a role model#as if ye 'misogyny violence abuse as a form of love and anger as the only emotion valid for a man to show' these are the ideals boys should#follow#it's so stupid honestly and im literally dreading seeing insta pe edits of these movie with some heroic background music as if kitna hi swag#wala kaam kar diya isne by being an absurd psychopathic freak#im so sick of this director bhai isko kabir singh bana ke akal nahi aayi ki ab phirse ye karna laga?

i do think there is something inherent to straight (?) actor men that makes them feel such a desire to play gay but it’s probably just the internalized patriarchy so we don’t have to unpack that. anyway the point of this post is that i know it’s all very haha funny when the actor men playing the guys in the gay ship are talking about the gay ship and perhaps cracking jokes about their characters being gay for each other. but i can tell you from lived real experience that i just knowwww behind the scenes of those actor men there is a director who did not in fact intend any homoerotic subtext whatsoever and is getting a little mad that their actors have decided to create it… behind every pair of guys joking about their characters being gay there’s a director who wants to strangle at least one of them because man your JOB here is to be in love with the beautiful woman i put in front of you is that so hard can you just do that very easy thing for me. oh you can’t. cool that’s awesome. i’m working overtime not to call you a homophobic slur btw. 😐😐😐😐😐

It’s been several weeks since I started watching Nosferatu, and I finally picked it up last night since I now have a knitting project suitably mindless that I can do without having to look at it and can watch the movie in peace. I’ve finished the third act, and I have to say, this is honestly really faithful to Dracula. Since it’s never been a secret that Nosferatu is heavily inspired by Dracula (read: an unauthorized adaption), I’m going to assign Dracula names to the roles characters play in the story rather than use their actual names most of the time.
The character combinations are interesting, but make a lot of sense given the large cast of characters in the book. I haven’t gotten far enough for most of the secondary characters to be a major presence, but I’ve read that they’re mostly absent, so the focus remains mostly on the Jonathan and Mina figures.
One of the biggest changes so far is that Mr. Hawkins and Renfield are combined into Knock, a now-malicious solicitor secretly in kahoots with the Count.
Tumblr media
Narratively speaking, this actually makes a more of sense than it might sound at first. Mr. Hawkins is mostly a plot device in the original story, not really a character, and given the restraints of a silent film, it would be rather challenging to establish why and how the Count wants to visit England. When you strip down the conversations from the captivity portion of the novel, you’re left with the challenge of how to convey the Count’s desire or to establish how exactly he made arrangements with a foreign solicitor, so giving him an agent abroad is a pretty economical way to convey that. Then, when the Count is travelling, using Knock as a Renfield-figure and thrall of the Count serves to heighten the tension, and while the “the life is in the blood” speeches are a little less mysterious, they do pair very well with the back-and-forth between the not-Demeter and not-Van Helsing teaching a botany class about carnivorous plants.
The major downside of that choice is that it removes much of the nuance present in the books regarding the characters under the Count’s sway. Renfield and Seward’s back and forth about the nature of sanity is so far completely absent, and I expect this will be the case through the movie, going off of the visual language’s cartoonishly malicious depiction of Knock. Renfield’s humanity is really just not shown, and while Knock’s gleeful manner while eating bugs is quite similar to Renfield’s manner in the book, I highly doubt the element of resistance will show up.
Still, overall, this feels like a simplification rather than a warping of the story. Unfortunately, it’s a simplification that results in a caricature of mental illness, and yet I don’t think it’s a fundamental misreading of the story, unlike Drac/Mina pairings.
The second major change so far is that Mina and Lucy’s role have been combined into one, and given their similar narrative roles as vulnerable and beloved targets, this makes a lot of sense. Now, the Mina-figure is the sleepwalker. There is a slight change in that the prophetic dreams start earlier, but it also serves to emphasize her connection with Jonathan without the letter and journal devices. It also establishes her vulnerability early on, pretty much as soon as we realize that Jonathan is in peril, which is an effective way to convey the peril of Lucy-Mina without diary entries and serves to jump-start the middle act of the story (which I admittedly found rather slow during Dracula Daily)
In a related vein, there’s another convenience change that’s either big or small depending on what you view as an important theme. In Dracula, the Count seems primarily interested in England, and his later vendetta is the result of his predatory nature, not the driving motivation. In Nosferatu, that’s flipped, and his primary motivation to leave his castle is to track down not-Mina. He presumably did first send for a solicitor, though, so the motivation isn’t absent, it’s just less developed.
Apart from character changes, the biggest other change is that the Count spreads plague rather than just killing or turning characters. So far, it doesn’t feel fundamentally different from the book, but I don’t know yet if it will have larger plot implications down the line.
I will say, though, that the time period is always waiting a little bit uncomfortably at the back of my mind. It came out in 1922, and there’s just so much going on in the Weimar Republic at this time. It’s a culturally wild time. I don’t know a lot about this film, or its make, or how it was received, so I’m just left with vague implications about the various changes and how they would be received. What does it suggest that he spreads a plague? What does his increased focus on preying on Mina mean? What are the implications of the fact that he has an apparently willing agent abroad, or that Renfield is only a slavish caricature, totally devoted to the count?
I don’t know the answers to these questions, but they’re always looming somewhere as I watch.
#dracula daily#nosferatu#i initially was confused by why he was travelling by boat before realizing i'm conflating germany and the weimar republic#and forgetting about different territorial boundaries#then i also wondered whether or not the plague device diminished the effectiveness of the captain's sacrifice—why was he tying himself up?#i think i would not understand why he's doing it if i wasn't already familiar with dracula#still though i really loved those scenes#which i guess makes sense. the demeter passages were one of my favorite parts of Dracula Daily#however i will say that watching the captain and mate throw the corpse of their crewmate overboard was visually effective#in a way that i think the fearful journal entries would not have been able to translate directly to film#and i think one of the most impactful changes made by the chronological format (she says having only read it that way)#because for me the slow terrifying countdown was one of the most ominous parts of the book#because i was both concerned for the crew of the demeter but also worried about the main characters#if they survive and make it that's terrible; if they don't it's a tragedy#and since as a modern reader i already kind of know that dracula is a vampire and bad news#i don't think that the unravelling the mystery of the abandoned ship would have led to any real dread#i may not have known much about Dracula but as a modern reader i do know that the count's a vampire and that means bad news#(okay more accurate to say until her dream)#I have to say: epistolary to silent film might be one of the widest gulfs to jump (with maybe only ballet being further?)#because your ability to use words is very limited and an epistolary is all about the words#the thing they do have in common is the need to distill things down to their essence#because the conceit of the epistolary requires you to at least believe the characters are recounting what happened#so you can't get TOO detailed or verbose without an explanation for how their memory is so good or they don't get fatigued#and when they recount things they're really summarizing what happened. so they have to pick what matters most#and with a silent film you're trying to convey emotions without verbal/speaking people's primary form of communication#so body language is exaggerated and you are very limited in how much you can use words#and have to boil things down to their essentials

just watched notting hill which is supposed to be like an epitome of a good romcom and... Well. Let's just say i highly disagree
#jab we met (2006) really fcked up my expectations of what a good romcom should be#also stuff like nothing serious (2021). it's not enough with the pretty cinematography the colorful#(pun intendes cause they're all white) cast of side characters and the chemistey between the lead actors#i need their background their baggage their context how they actually connect as human beings and change each other#otherwise you're just preaching a stupid idea of what love should be and making up a story where the main couple#go back and forth because PLOT but it's actually because there's practically nothing going on between them in terms of actual trust#you're selling infatuation as love and they're not the same#so in notting hill we know anna has all these troubles. we know she has been in an abusive relationship one after the other. we know she#has a bf by the time she meets the guy. we know that but we never EXPLORE that. we see she's deeply hurt that her intimate#photos were leaked and that her relationship with the guy (her only solace) was revealed to the press but we never really DEAL with the#consequences of that. we're TOLD the guy is a hopeless romantic and an pverall decent fellow. they let drop he dated bella at some point#and worst of all we know he got divorced recently. but we never see his ex wife we know nothing about her he doesn't seem to think#about her at all which is odd at best for someone who claims to both be very devoted to the one he's in love and also claims he's#only been in love twice (bella & his exwife) before anna. we don't see their baggage just hear it. we don't see them talk it out or work#through it and when anna reacts roughly surely because of stress and trauma the narrative ends up putting her in the wrong (though to be#fair he isn't protrayed as being in the right exactly). the film is supposedly all about illusion vs reality and anna's deakre to be seen#for what she is (just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her thing) but actually the movie is about infatuation. a deep#one sure buy not about love. it's about solace but not nuance. it's fairy tale but fairy tales don't work in real life. we're supposed to#strive for the fairy tale which is literally completely impossible to achieve#effective romance movies and romcoms have that fantasy element for sure but they stay grounded. if not in plot surely in human connection#laura watches stuff

I've rewatched Paprika last night
Finally understood it, and I love that
It's a very dense film, it's very goodfor a rewatch, but I never realised how sweet the film actually was
It really is about just 4 things love, sex, hope and progress, all of them presented as how that can be both good and bad, and in the end the good kind wins, like I said a very sweet film
The chairman and that sleazy guy are bad sex, and wrong hope and fear of thechnologica progress, being about just the outward appearance of those things
While Chiba and Tokita are love and Paprika is kinda externalised sex and together they are good progress while they still embody what chairman was talking about, that nature aspects in potentially having a daughter in the future (or possibly in a dream?)
