you know what if making will a villain means that he doesn’t only exist to further the boring corny overdone straight relationship then hey i’m all for it and yea i absolutely will support all of his actions no questions asked. just give him some valuable crucial screentime and a plotline with an arc that actually surrounds and is about him and not other (straight) people please oh my god. i know it’s SUPER hard to write gay people and not revolve everything in their storyline around straight people but it never hurts to try.

It’s so crazy to me that Seelah and Sosiel from Pathfinder are given more equal treatment in a cast of 12 optional companions than Wyll is in a smaller cast. Wrath of the Righteous isn’t as companion storyline heavy but I never got the impression that they were forgotten by the game. Seelah’s pretty much with you from the start and Sosiel’s mission is literally the closest to the Act 1 Garrison Hub. The game is doing everything but forcing you to go over there. Seelah’s questline hub is close to Sosiel’s so you can do both effortless, propelling their storyline. Location wise, it isn’t really like that with the other companions. You have to go on a voyage-and-a-half for Daeran’s quest and can miss it if you don’t speak to the right mf. Both of their quests are way more involved.
I hate to drag BG3, but Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous didn’t snub it’s PoC cast. Paladins and Clerics are heavy hitters in Pathfinder, like Seelah as a Paladin and Sosiel as a cleric are both way more useful than Daeran’s low HP, no customizable spellslots having ass. I love him but he’s useless once I get Sosiel in the party. Hell, Seelah gets her unique questline sword within the first hour or so of the game. Seelah be carrying the party in the beginning because she has a cold iron sword so if you want those Dretches gone, she’s the best way to go.
I don’t think that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is the most perfect game ever (granted it’s more varied cast wise), but I think that WOTR passively and actively encourages you to have Seelah and Sosiel in your party and involves them in the story wayyy more than Wyll is in BG3. Hell, Seelah is your first companion. Even as far as settings go, Sosiel and Seelah’s stories are more intertwined with the main quest. They’re both in the Crusade for various reasons. WOTR wouldn’t be the same without Seelah and Sosiel. Meanwhile, BG3 is virtually the same without Wyll when he should be the most focused on companion. Dawg, his daddy is Duke of Baldur’s Gate, he should be Jehaira and Khalid BG1 levels of important to the game. If any companion should be the most vocal and active, it’s Wyll. Estranged or not, he has the highest stakes because his city is under threat.
The only excuse for the severe underuse of a character like Wyll Ravengard is racism. His father is the Duke of Baldur’s Gate, he should have the most dialogue, most content, and most screentime of any character. Wyll as a character is incredibly interesting and has a lot of potential, but they’d rather give a mf like Halsin more attention.

What about the earliest Shadow?
Tumblr media
Mods and Shadow has his Chao following him...
I imagine that most people got so interested in Shadow lately because he is back to be likeable, but also because of the incoming movie.
For the last decade Shadow has been the laughing stock from Sonic series. Crazy OoC-ness from fans were deliberate and not a mistake.
Tumblr media
Yes, happy Shadow was a choice by its autor. Is a long story...
The most common image of last decade Shadow we had was... THIS...
Tumblr media
Idiot...
I knew Shadow first from Adventure and Heroes. I didn't play heroes but I played a lot SA2B, especially the chao game and I always used Sonic and Shadow because they were the safest to have around chao. I rediscovered him later, in 2010, but he wasn't the likeable character I once knew so I completely lost interest in him (also I'm more a Sonic fan). I forgot who he was and all the things I knew were from meme. But also video from games showing 'how Shadow is an asshole' 'Shadow the edgelord' and IDW comics, the worst of all (not that Game Shadow was better, he was often underused and his few lines tasted as 'Go fuck yourself'. To make things worse he was dubbed by Kirk Thorton, not a really beautiful voice, to not say brutal things...).
Sega just took Shadow and removed all his good qualities, all what made him well rounded, keeping only the flaws (I've read the mandates, do you know what an Anti-Mary Sue is? Well...). They wanted him being unlikeable I guess. Is mainly from Prime and tMoStH that Shadow sparkled my interest again into exploring him as character, that made me think there is more, that he must also have good qualities, not only flaws.
Tumblr media
The earliest Shadow (Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes) was hardly grumpy. He was sad, lonely, somewhat insecure, often lost in though, but also stubborn, certainly less cold than people might assume. As for grumpiness, if I compare him to Sonic in 2001, Sonic seemed slightly grumpier than Shadow at that time. Shadow himself seemed to be aware of that and to have fun picking on Sonic. Both of them are rather cold outside but both of them are shown to be able to feel strong emotion (Shadow having a panic attack and Sonic wiping his eyes during the credits, Shadow being controlled by is own emotions while Sonic refusing them) At least that was the impression he gave me. Since Shadow was meant to die, most of his personality traits aswell as his backstory were packed and shown during the whole game, like a character ark. He is pratically the protagonist in the dark storyline. By the end of the storyark he is able to open up to Sonic (during the final battle against the biolizard he openly told Sonic he was not feeling well. Also the hand clasping was a gesture of openess from Shadow) and to some degree toward Amy. Not so much toward Rouge who pratically is the one who hurt him the most. In heroes Shadow appears to be pleasant to have around, althoug aloof. He is not fond in humanity and that's one of his main traits, but he doesn't let his predjudice win over him. He still has this melancholic aura around him though, it doesn't matter how content or cheerful he may seem sometimes.
Sonic was dubbed by Ryan Drummond and Shadow by David Humphrey. David's voice was different from the other VA Shadow had. His voice was more high pitched, youthful, cute. Still soft spoken. Ryan's voice was legendary, and when he made Sonic talk soflty, he sounded almost like Shadow. The two VA had so similar voices that made Sonic and Shadow sound like legit twins, and back in 2001 I though they shared the same VA all the time. Well, Drummond also dubs Shadow for a short time.
So what went wrong?
The 00's era were the years of the prince of the saiyan, or better, the king of the edgelords:
Tumblr media
This guy was also sad and lonely. But he was also more impulsive, rough, boorish and extremely grumpy. Maybe because he is a muscular human and not a cute velvety male calico kitten hedgehog he filled the dreams of young and older teenagers.
Some said Shadow is based on Vegeta (not only him but also him) the more the 00's approaches the 10's, the more Shadow became grumpier, arrogant and standoffish. Sadness and melancholy were replaced by selfishness and he became less and less fun and interesting. Shadow the edgelord.
Tumblr media
Archie Shadow was maybe too expressive (and his sadness was very underlined) but with only SA2 and Sonic Heroes around this interpretation was more than understandable. They (Flynn, Penders I can imagine) referred from the material they had. Shadow opening up to Sonic is there in Adventure 2, is undeniable, so it was normal assuming he was more open.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is left handed, yeah! (This is actually correct)
In Sonic Universe Shadow was more balanced, maybe closer to the one we saw in early '00s. Lonely, rejected, sometimes bullied (although he could defend himself with his sharp tongue) because he was different.
Then the IDW.
Tumblr media
No. Seriously Shadow?
That is unavoidable if we are talking about characters that are created by a team and not by a single. We already see this with Disney. When the writers change the charcters change too, everybody notices different things about a character, based on it's own experience of life. The characters chanfe even when the single writer deals with them, because people change too. Any kind of mandates can only help this far, if they're too heavy they end to be counter productive.
This is my personal opinion, but I would have seen better Shadow befriending Amy and Sonic more than Rouge in early days. Rouge worried for him at times, but there were moments she purposefully hurted him (although later she cared sincerely for him). She would take time to regain his trust. With Sonic, following SA2 would have been open, even more than what we see in Prime. With Amy he would be in good terms though often drained by her own cheerfulness and extrovertion. Tails is rather reserved although not socially awkward so he would not have problem with him. With Knuckles things would become funny I guess, Shadow used to be calm and smart while Knuckles is more simple and is grumpy. I think he (Shadow) would still have issues and relapses with his PTSD though and the need to be left alone.
Well, now the movie will come out. They did a good job until now. I'm curious about what they will do with Shadow. I hope he will be likeable like in SA2.

The 'Great' MHA Read Along, Part One (Chapters 1-4)
So, at the request of @lacunammmm, I'm going to be... well, rereading MHA. All of it, god help me. Because the chapter division is stupid and based off giving weekly (and often cheap) cliffhangers rather than smooth storytelling, I'm just going to reread arcs instead of individual chapters (the arcs I'm going to be using are the ones off the wiki, for the record), kinda summarize it, and write out my opinions as they happen in a stream of conscious kind of way.... which is going to be a mess, fair warning. If you've read my take on the War Arc as a whole, that is the vibe I'm going to be going for. Thankfully, the first couple of arcs are only a couple of chapters long, so I get to get some easy stuff as a warm up before it gets longer and more complicated. Anyways, I'll be doing this on and off, and if this gets any attention I'll probably move it up my priority list a bit.
Anyways, first impressions as I read: where the hell was this guy with dragon fire head the entire time? Right at the start of chapter one it has examples of Quirks and there's this guy freaking out, and it's like a fire version of all those dragon covenants from Darks Souls, which is fucking awesome. Seriously, talk about an underused idea.
*clears throat*
But. Anyways. There's some crazy nostalgia seeing normal kid!Izuku; I know he's technically the same character, but he's changed so much from then to now, it's almost like he's literally a different person. It's not just that he's more confident and stuff*, like, all his mannerisms are gone, too. I mean, hell, the only thing that really connects Izuku from then to the current version is him going Kaachan, of all things. There's this kind of disconnect because I can't think of Post War Izuku, or even to some extent before that, really acting like Izuku.
More than that, though, he feels... fleshed out, in the way later Izuku doesn't; this Izuku, for all his flaws, and often (but not just) because of them, feels a lot more like a person that late game SUPER-DEKU Izuku does. Man, I miss this version.
*Actually, now that I think about it, he doesn't actually seem to have grown in confidence, after a certain point. Maybe by BvI2, his confidence, as a person, seemed to have stalled a lot. He's more confident later on, true, but that's more in a, 'I have assessed I can take you' kind of way to various villains, where before he was more nervous and determined; he's more confident in his power, sure, and his power level means he can apply that confidence almost all the time, but beyond that? The Dark Deku bit is something I could see this Izuku doing, if with less confidence, and for him to go on for so long without really getting to value himself at all speaks of some serious lacking growth.
Ah, beginning Bakugou. I did not miss you. And geeze, Bakugou cares way too much about Izuku; that ego is as big as a blimp and as fragile as spun glass. God, I forgot how damn sinister he was early on; that smile while he's burning Izuku (which I note doesn't even to have marred his uniform) gives me 'child pulling fly wings' energy. I really could see early Bakugou going way too far on Izuku and seriously hurting him in that, 'I didn't mean to' kind of a way, only maybe regretting it afterwards, and that is a bad vibe to have. In a less serious note, how does the teacher teach anything with him in class? From the way his friends talked afterwords, the lack of reaction the teacher had to his fits, everything he did except the suicide baiting was standard. Yelling, standing on the desk, exploding shit? None of that registered.
I know he's supposed to get away with everything because the staff likes his potential, but how much of the class does the teacher have to yell over him and his explosions? Or does he patiently wait for him to shut up before the lesson can continue, because clearly Bakugou's not getting punished for any of that.
...Sweet flying fuck, it has just got to hit me how much that must have hurt, the slime villain thing. Drowning is supposed to be a horrible way to die, and I doubt drowning in slime is any better, and to add insult to injury? He calls Izuku 'his hero', fuck. All things considered, that's probably the first time Izuku's been told that since his mom played games with him a a kid, since I doubt it's as common a phrase in MHA as it is now...
...
Now that I think about it, I refuse to believe that some sort of All Might related slang doesn't exist in MHA somewhere, and is this super common thing that people say all the time. It makes too much sense to me, considering the semi-literal worship the man has, and makes me want to laugh too much for it not to be real.
Speaking of All Might, popping out of the sewer, while carrying his groceries, as you do: in retrospect, that's like Superman crossed with your favorite idol popping out of the sewer, dressed in a normal outfit, holding groceries. It is both hilarious and without the reader's context brings up so many questions.
God, I miss this All Might. He's posing as he jump/flies away, long past the time Izuku should be able to see him, delightfully extra about it, and he's just so casual about this interaction, as he checks on Izuku, secures the villain, and even gives him an autograph on sheer autopilot.
I... I think this might be peak! All Might? Like, I know we get more of his story later on (but not by much, and generally just to introduce another character), but as a character I feel like his entire personality just started to flatten out after this initial arc, and by the time the next arc hits he's already getting flanderized into the useless character we end up with. Give it a second, let's get to a bit later in the story and I'll expand on that.
That said, the fact Izuku managed to stay on his leg and not get flattened by the jump or something is amazing.
Ah, instant karma on Bakugou. But, as has been noted, not punishment; he's not being punished for being an asshole, something bad just randomly happened to him, in a way that makes readers subconsciously want to think he's been punished for being an asshole, without having to make up for it in anyways, in a kind of half assed version of the dying for redemption trope.
Alright, real talk time: All Might and turning down Izuku. A lot of people hate on All Might for this, and I mean, a lot. They call him hypocritical and cruel, and like, did you pay attention? The man is being consistent; he didn't become a hero (student) until he got a Quirk. More than that, he tried to let him off gently, told him about how else he could help, and he really was just being honest. He may have been wrong, but he was honestly wrong. The fact Izuku took it so bad was because All Might was his last hope, but you can't blame All Might for Izuku's entire life when this is literally the first time they met.
*side eyes Bakugou*
Anyways, and now we come to it: the big moment. Well, a big moment, anyways; a lot of big moments in these chapters.... but yeah, Izuku saving Bakugou. It's... I feel like hindsight is tainting me here, in all honesty. Because that face Bakugou makes, as all those heroes stand around*, it does get you in the gut, it really does, especially when it drives cowardly Izuku to charge forward to save him. Asshole or not, he is just a kid, and he doesn't deserve that...
But. I can't help but look at that and think, 'This is Hori skipping on characterization'. That is, rather than making him better (though, to be fair, these early parts are the part of his biggest growth), or kinder to fix his character, Hori is hitting us with a poor Bakugou moment to smash some sympathy into us to try and undo all the shit that made us hate him not five seconds ago, while still leaving him as is. I don't know, maybe I'm too cynical, but I can't shake the thought.
But yeah, this is like, the defining moment for who Izuku is as a person, and it still is great at making him feel heroic in this really realistic, yet still impressive and admirable way. I really do love these early chapters. As much as I hate to say it, though, if All Might wasn't there all that would have happened was he would have gotten killed, like, two seconds after that so the heroes kinda had a point yelling at him.
Trying to recruit the recently traumatized victim, though? That is pure shit. Less, 'do you want to work for me', and more, 'Do you have lung damage', please; you're apparently professionals so I'd love it if you acted like it.
*Yeah, I feel like Aizawa would have expected all his students to try and rescue someone trapped by the slime guy, Quirk match up or not; there's certainly enough bad match ups they have in literally every school sponsored fight we've seen that it feels off that someone just said, 'I have a disadvantage' and gave up. I can't tell if this is an excellent demonstration of how half assed the heroes are getting, that UA is just better, or all heroes got flanderized as the series progressed into just charging in all the time anyways and this kind of characterization got forgotten. Some of everything, maybe.
Also. You, Fire Hose Man. Backdraft. Look, you stupid fucker, I get you're putting fires out (the second Bakugou is not responsible is the second his Quirk starts being treated seriously, interestingly; can't light a shirt on fire but once the slime gets to him the city starts burning? After this I don't think he'll ever start a fire again, no matter how hard he's going on someone or how flammable various things are) but you know what might be more helpful? Stopping more fires from happening, and saving a literal child! Two-for-one!
The villain is made of slime. You have access to high pressure water.
Do I need to draw you a map?!
*sigh*
...Sweet fuck in any other context than him being hammier than ham, All Might would be terrifying. How much of that persona is All Might going, 'Don't be afraid, I'm here to rescue you', and how much is, 'Don't be afraid of me, I'm so extra! Clearly I can't single handedly cause natural disasters when I'm not carefully monitoring my strength; there's no way you're going to explode if I touch you!'
God Bakugou, your ego, dial it back. Izuku, why are you complimenting how he refuses to get over himself?
Actually, right before All Might shows up, Izuku basiclly moves on from what... All Might said, which is interesting. He clearly still wants to be a hero, but that moment in itself just seemed really grown up to me. I respect that.
And... ah. I think this is my favorite moment.
'You can be a hero'.
God that's so damn powerful, the way you can see Izuku's composure fail, second by second. And... look at the way All Might is standing, look at how confident he is standing there, even when he's Skele-Might. This is the All Might I like, this is the man who helped get me into this story in the first place; even at his weakest, even after burning past his limit, he's still got the aura of a top hero to him, before promptly being shown as a Real Human, and it's so different from how cringing he seems to get later on, and so different from all these other mentors and heroes. All Might is both larger than life and starkly human in these chapters and that contrast is glorious.
And then the training, and I just hate we can't get this for rest of the series; All Might has that retired coach kind of a feel to him, of a guy who has done everything and knows how it works, and is just surprised and delighted by how Izuku is not only keeping up with, but surpassing his expectations.
The training we see is short, but when Izuku ends up screaming his victory, god it feels like he earned that win, and it's viscerally satisfying to see him improve like that.
'Now eat this', lol.
...What the fuck is UA's budget. They have a fucking town, like, an actual town, to train in. More than one? People could live there. And it's nice to see Iida be a character again, and the little arc he goes through here is interesting; he's well meaning, but abrasive, and in Izuku's mind almost bullying him, but you can still see how he means well; he maybe be a bit of a jerk at this moment, but he's not an asshole, which makes him (for what, one chapter?) a far more satisfying rival character than Bakugou ever was. If the story was spun different, you could really see a competing sort of rivalry between them forming where they both ultimately respect each other even as they try to one up each other, the thing everyone seems to think Izuku has with Bakugou for no real reason.
On another retrospective note, I have mixed feelings about how OFA is working here; when I first read this, I got into it, Izuku's struggles really brought me in. And then he kept struggling. And kept struggling. And the way All Might is suddenly unable to see this obvious problem coming, when he was so competent until Izuku got to UA, for literal months, leaves a bad taste. Looking back, it feels like Izuku is getting nerfed so he can suffer and panic all the time, and All Might is getting dumber so he can be a joke, and that.... ugh.
Uraraka coming in clutch on that rescue, though.
And Bakugou, yet again I'm harsher in hindsight, or maybe just less connected to Izuku's view on him, who would of course expect Bakugou to be the best, but the way it's focusing on his 'sheer battle instinct' and that he ends up in first place just feels like Hori hyping him up just because he can.
And to wrap it up... I'm assuming the 'Your Hero Academia' makes more sense in Japanese, because that phrase just feels...awkward, reading that in English. Was it different in the official stuff, or did it just stay as that weird almost title drop...? I can't quite sympathize as much with Izuku here, because of course he was going to get in, but it's nice seeing him win anyways.
In all honesty, this ended up meatier than I expected for just four chapters; in the future, if/when I keep this up, and the arcs get bigger, I might need to break it into multiple chunks to stop them from getting too big. Or, maybe this intro is meatier into such a short span because it's the intro. Guess we'll have to see.

I need your honest opinion on Jace! He's one of my favorite characters in the story
He's so smart but also so cute at the same I just love him!
Well let me tell you!
✨ Jace Park Appreciation ✨
Jace isn't necessarily underrated though he hasn't been utilised properly for absolutely ages. He's really become underused in recent arcs, much like most of the original cast to be honest. But he joins my legion of green flag kings 💚
Jacedaichi Case Files
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is probably one of my GOAT arcs in Lookism. The humour? The insight into characters? The references that I don't get
We all know Jace is the brains behind Burn Knuckles but he is absolutely goddamn adorable in this, especially with Woong as his sidekick. Actually, the whole of Burn Knuckles are crazy endearing in this arc. I love them all.
Personality
Tumblr media
A romantic at heart. Intelligent and smart. Patient as hell with all of Tabasco's silliness. Super loyal with a strong moral compass. I'm not sure what more you could ask for. He even won Johan over! And Queen Mary with his ears!
Sure, he shouldn't have slipped Vasco laxatives daily, but it came from a good place.
Backstory
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THEM!! In this arc, he's probably the more realistic depiction of childhood growth we have seen in the series, at least in my opinion. He started as Euntae's friend, and then sided with the bullies. But he's a stupid kid, and I'm not sure if I would have made a better choice under the circumstances and at that age.
Since then, he has stuck by Vasco through thick and thin, and helped him to get over his phobia of needles.
Relationship with Vasco
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is there a stronger bromance? Are there better partners in crime and friendship? The care, respect, and love for each other is SO pure. They would move heaven and hell for one another.
Jace is the perfect fit for Vasco. Tabasco may be stronger, but Jace counters a lot of his weaknesses. Unfortunately, intelligence, common sense, and dealing with technology are frequent issues. But that's fine, because Jace is there.

Watched Dune 2 finally so here's some thoughts:
- They really go all out Arab aesthetic while avoiding the word jihad. Also a contest of how many fantasy hijab can we get in every female character.
- lady Jessica literally girl boss gaslight gatekeep her way into crazy ayatollah status, and the final reverend mother was delicious.
- I thought Zendaya was underused but apparently it's worse in the book so go ahead.
- Galaxy's Twink aka Paul is going full fascist and crazy. Also he's going to make Florence Pugh suffer and the fucking princess deserves better.
- Introducing Gurney like a marvel character, with the music playing finally but then cutting the fucking song is criminal. Sadly I could only think about brolin gay poem IN SET given to Timothee chalamet .
- What to say about the harkonnen ?. More post incoming because I have bald boy brainrot , but the baron being an absolute evil bastard, feyd whole psycho vibe, giedi prime !!!!!. I can't wait to see the rest of the houses.
- I'm bound to see Javier Bardem as a funny guy , so I couldn't help but smile every time he goes lisan al gaib!. But I kinda dig stilgar sand uncle vibe.

thoughts on ajin???? If you remember.
i just finished reading it today so i remember lol (spoiler alert) well first of all i love ajin i think it's one of the best action/thriller mangas i've read.. kei is obviously an interesting protagonist because he's unusual for a main character (kou or kai are more typical mc types) but he's also not the timid type (like shinji lmao), and he knows he's clever. i actually like all the characters, ajin is one of those stories where not a single character goes to waste. i felt that the author really liked sato, he is literally the craziest wasian i have seen in my life. like he actually made me gasp several times because he is so fucking crazy i swear to god. but this backfired and gave too much spotlight to sato that kei's role felt weaker in comparison. i also thought kou was underused, i was soooo disappointed that we never got to see his ibm??!?!?! and kaito's status as a half ajin also felt underdeveloped, i mean i like that there were the parallels with the characters from chapter 0 but i definitely think it was glossed over. and the first half of the story was sooooo well put together that the final arc felt looser, because we got less character development and just a lot of terrorism happening lol the story did end how i thought it would, i just wish some aspects of it were amplified. i know the anime ends with only 2 or was it 3 seasons but now that i've finished reading it, i almost prefer the anime version? kaito's role, the novelty/shock of kei's flood and kou's role in the tunnel felt a lot stronger in the anime, or at least the anime did a good job considering it diverged from the original material. i sound like i'm criticizing it a lot but that's only because i really really enjoy ajin, it's honestly one of the most exciting stories i've read/watched. and the art in the manga is soooooo good, like it really felt like i was watching an action movie?!?!?! like damn that mangaka can draw.... i'm so grateful that the author decided to continue ajin even when the story's original writer left, and i'm glad he changed the art so that it was more to his liking i really admire that! anyway i think everyone should read or watch ajin it's so fucking fun. i'll probably rewatch the anime at some point god it's so good

I love Ada’s voice in RE4 remake (I’m an absolute slut for women with deep and raspy voices) but I feel like some of her delivery is so bland.
Personally I think Capcom is to blame for making such a drastic change by not keeping the same VA from RE2 remake. I heard that it’s because her VA from RE2 remake was unionized so they hired someone else.
If those rumours are true, I’m not the least bit surprised because ultimately a corporation is gonna be greedy no matter what and voice actors are underpaid and mistreated so much that when they demand basic decency and proper compensation, they’re just replaced. If these rumours are true, then fuck Capcom for not treating VAs better especially when the characters performances is a major part of selling a game. VAs labour deserves recognition and they deserve adequate payment for their hard work when their skills help make characters and stories extremely memorable.
Regardless, in my opinion, changing the VA would’ve been fine had they given her better direction. People are gonna compare her performance to the original performance from RE4 and the difference in characterization of Ada in both games is gonna throw people off.
I know the tone of the remake is much more serious overall, but when they made such a drastic change in Ada’s delivery for her lines without explaining why, then Capcom or anyone else shouldn’t be surprised towards the negative reception of Ada in RE4 remake.
EDiT: just wanted to expand a bit on what I mean by ‘change in delivery.’ Leon is much more serious in the remake than he was in the original because the remake tells us that he was detrimentally affected by the Raccoon City incident. Hence why him not cracking jokes so much or being cocky makes sense in the remake. Dude is tryna protect innocent lives, and he’s overall serious as seen with how he resonates with their fear because he felt the same fear at Raccoon City, like with how he comforts Ashley.
Now Ada on the other hand, didn’t really get any more usage in the remake so she doesn’t have much dialogue to begin with. So her being underused in the story and not being expanded on as a character like Luis, prevents us as the player from understanding her better. We finally get a better emotional connection to Luis because he’s fleshed out more in regards to why they do what they do and why they are the way they are.
Ada doesn’t get this at all. She helps Leon but she could’ve been more relevant. If she had more screen time then we could’ve gotten an explanation as to why she’s no longer the flirty coy character she was in the original game and in RE2 remake.
Why is she more serious in the re4 remake?
Is it the stake of the job that pushes her to be more grounded?
What about her interactions with Leon?
Why doesn’t she tease him like she used to?
Is it because she feels guilty for manipulating him in Raccoon City?
Is that why she’s not flirting and teasing him?
Capcom doesn’t expand on her reasoning for her actions AT ALL. They don’t explain why she’s more serious like they do with the rest of the cast.
Why is Leon serious? Like I said, man’s been through a lot and is concerned with Ashley’s safety
Why is Ashley serious? Cuz she’s a normal young adult woman whos been thrown into this crazy zombie world where she’s effectively helpless since yk she’s a normal person, not some trained super soldier who’s dealt with life or death situations before
Why is Luis serious? Why doesn’t he joke around with Ashley like he did in the og game? Because he feels guilt for his part in creating the very thing that’s hurting her and the entire village. Man’s is trying to seek redemption so he’s not gonna make unnecessary comments about Ashley’s figure
But what explanation do we get for Ada? Literally nothing.
This is an issue I have with Capcom where they fail to expand on the female side cast. They miss an opportunity to create a proper emotional connect between the players and the female character.
They did the same with Mia in RE8 and they’ve done it again with Ada in RE4 remake….

Would Tsurumi's character arc changed to a grand extent if the fate of Olga and Fina was different? In a way they lived and Tsurumi had less to no trauma about his family. Is his arc really lowkey turns around what happened to his family, kind of? What changed do you think it would make for his role in GK if that event went different in which they lived?
It's an interesting question!
Possibly it would have, as he might have decided to remain in Russia with them, maybe even switch loyalties between Russia and Japan, or he would take them back to Japan with him and not harbour any other ambition than be with them or, at least, wouldn't have harboured such a great grudge toward Wilk and might have remained a more human person or, at least, a less ambitious one.
There's to say though, in the last third of the manga his family drama is underused, basically it merely became an excuse to guilt trip Sofia into talking and into letting Tsurumi kill her. Tsurumi insists it's not his family drama what's moving him, and even though it's made clear he hates Wilk because he blames him for his loss and transferres this hate to Asirpa... well, all this hate just exists and goes nowhere.
It's not a motive, it's not an obstacle to overcome, it's not something that causes him to make mistakes (unless we want to consider the fact his brain started leaking like crazy in Vol 21 when he talks with Asirpa and never again [by the way this wasn't in the magazine version so if you're reading the mangazine version you might not know what I'm talking about]).
So... who knows?
The story wanted to say that loss was the thing that turned him into the Tsurumi we know so, without it, we wouldn't have Tsurumi therefore theoretically Fina and Olga's survival would have been a big change for him... but again, with how underused the whole thing was, we can't really tell what exactly it would have changed.
That's a question, I guess, only Noda knows the answer of.
Still thank you for your ask!

I know your focus is mostly on CaptainSwan but Henry was my favorite character and I felt like he was so underutilized! He had a lot of potential but he always took a backseat to the million other characters that came on the show. One of the things that I felt like they dropped the ball on was his heart of the truest believer power. Like his heart was so powerful it could bring back magic. That’s crazy! Have you noticed that when a big curse is broken that Henry is always part of the TLK? I theorize that while yes you need TLK Henry’s heart amplifies the power so it’s so big that it can destroy even the dark curse. Also in S5 when all magic is destroyed and Henry gets up and encourages all those people to believe and throw coins in the fountain. People were laughing and dismissive then suddenly they just start believing? I think Henry’s strength of belief was enough to literally influence those people into actually believing in magic. And because it was Henry he was able to use that belief to literally create magic where there was none. He just has no idea that he has this ability. Anyway that’s my theory and I would love to hear your thoughts.
Henry is not one of my favorite characters. I did like him in S1 and partway through S2 but as soon as they retconned him for Regina’s sake I didn’t care for the character after that. I thought he truly lost something when he told Regina at the town line that he shouldn’t have gone looking for Emma and just let Regina have her happy ending and basically that him and the rest of the characters could just live in literal hell cause Reggigigii deserved her happiness more. It soured me on him. So I personally don’t care if Henry was underused or pushed to the side.
I do, however, feel like Henry accomplished his goal in S1 which was to help Emma find who she was and break the curse. So his story at this time was sort of done? But also I feel like OUAT just didn’t know what to do with Henry after that. They’d decided to redeem and retcon Regina which changed Henry’s original motivations as well as his own characterization and now he no longer had an enemy to defeat. So it seems to me like the writers decided to give him these two super powers (heart of the truest believer then author capabilities) to try and incorporate him into the story more. However, it looked to me like they backed themselves into a corner. I think it’s because of the fantasy genre magic curse when you have super power characters or items. You make this magic available then you have to ignore the power or put limits on it or your story is finished before it even starts.
But I do like your theory! I think it’s a good, solid, theory. Thanks for sharing!

The show had an effect for sure but a lot of the book fandom doesn't like Bran because they think he and his chapters are boring, I've seen some complaints on tumblr and it's even worse on other social medias.
I love Bran chapters but unfortunately the only thing that really get the fandom to like Bran at this point is maybe TWOW if his chapters get really exciting with the crazy magic stuff and is somehow able to appeal to most of the fanbase.
I get why some fans feel alienated with Bran's pov. Bran's story it's quite different from most other characters'. He the youngest pov ; he's basically a sweetheart but not as complex or morally gray as other popular older characters are. Also, he has a smaller supporting cast than other pov characters featuring to his chapters. Furthermore, people who enjoy political intrigue, will find his chapters' lacking as they focus sorely on the magical aspects of the series.
It might sounds like I'm criticizing Bran's chapters, but I personally like them for the reasons that other people dislike them/feel indifferent to. I like the variety asoiaf different pov characters offer and for me the fact that Bran is like operating on a different book make his story very interesting to me. Plus, I'm a big fantasy fan. For me watching a "young Arthur" type of character getting his "Merlin" powers is intriguing. But I understand that other people feel different about it and I get their reasoning.
To tell you the truth, I don't really care whether more fans will appreciate Bran's story on the last two books as long as Martin deliver us a satisfying continuation and finale to Bran's tale . And I believe he will. The show runners might grew bored with Bran and underused him but Martin won't do the same with one of his most important characters. After all, asoiaf started with Bran.

was Chris THE face of RE back in the day? I’m asking cause he was the most used character, he’s the easiest of the main four to write in but I also thought it was mostly because he was capcom’s star and so popular. Nowadays it’s definitely Leon but I’m wondering if he was also as popular as Chris since the beginning given the fact that he was in every cgi movie and he’s far from underused in games?
i would actually say jill was the face of RE until RE4, when leon took over
but leon was very very quickly dethroned by chris with RE5, and it stayed chris until maybe it switched back over to leon with RE2make, but i would personally argue that it was chris all the way up until RE4make.
so the timeline is
1996-2005: jill (9 years) 2005-2009: leon (4 years) 2009-2023: chris (14 years)
and chris dethroned leon so hard that the rhetoric of "chris is the main protagonist of RE" started back in 2009 with RE5 -- which is fucking crazy to think about, considering that the only other numbered RE he'd ever been in was 1. but it was treated as a given. of course chris killed wesker without any other recurring characters present (except jill off to the periphery) -- he's the main character! it's his right!
but capcom knows intrinsically that chris's success and popularity wouldn't have existed without leon. RE5 wouldn't have been as huge as it was without RE4 being a cultural phenomenon. and there are a lot of RE4 diehards out there. so leon became the king of the side story.
and that's why leon is in every CGI movie but hasn't been seen in a new game title since 2012.

I have so far not found one god accurately portrayed besides Ares and Mr. D (who was so severely underused.)
It might just be a me thing but I don't get why we have to make every god human when one of the main points of the gods is that they see humanity fit to do with what they want.
They want war? Humanity has to suffer that.
They want sex? They'll just sleep with someone.
They cheat? Who cares, it's the gods.
They want children? Yeah but they don't care later one.
They like a child and that child isn't behaving how they imagined? Well, they no longer like a child.
Like, the gods from both the myths and even the books aren't some funny random dude. They are terrifying beings that has most of the immortal/demi-god world cowering in fear or hating them.
Hephaestus is not some old wise library, he is a loner who is built like a mountain and has craftsmanship so advanced the gods don't even understand some of his traps until it is too late. He isn't around to just meet random demi-gods he isolates himself because he doesn't feel like he is part of the world in the sense the other gods are.
Hades? He is the most respected and one of the most feared gods because of his powers. He is spiteful, so much so that the demi-gods think he is starting this war to get back at his brothers. His own son is terrified by what he can do and can feel his life draining when he uses some of his stronger powers. What do you think other demi-gods feel about him? How much fear do you think they have of him?
Hermes? Hermes is one of the smartest gods who works everywhere. He is the middle-man, the messenger. He is doomed by knowing too much almost but he is smart enough to hide what he doesn't want others to know. He makes a woman fall in love with him, knowing it will drive her crazy. He knows his son be responsible for so much death, so much pain and yet he can't change it.
And yet we have reduced all these characters so much to some human, sad-looking or funny dude when that is just not the case.
Poseidon? They make him out to be some cool British dude that loves a human being when really the reality is that he is the storm bringer. His son, the kindest person, can kill someone within seconds. Who do you think he got that power from? Poseidon literally drowns people as soon as they do something he dislikes. He sends his only human kid who has no knowledge of anything on a quest where he could get killed.
I just hate that the gods have been made so soft. I know it's a kids show but they aren't nice or god or funny. They are first and foremost terrifying because just one simple comment could get you killed in seconds.
Their moods have the power to kill nations.
Yet we feel none of that powerful rage, we see none of the fear, the fury...

Reading This Week 2024 #6-8
sits here. i have been behind on this.... once again... i think i just have to accept that i do these when i do these.
Finished Week 6 (Feb 4-10):
Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift (skimmed/read the spark notes for class discussion, won't be reading more)
Undoing Gender by Judith Butler (read Chapter 6 "Longing for Recognition", currently won't be reading more)
The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin, narrated by Rob Inglis (started the same week, audio book was lots of fun)
i love Tenar...... i think it's really cool that the way the Earthsea books are working is that even tho Ged is a reocurring character, we get a new child perspective for each one
Orange, Vol. 4 by Ichigo Takano, translated by Amber Tamosaitis (started same week)
truly TRULY the love triangle/rivals in this are so primed to be read polyamorously it had driven me crazy. just form a triad, you all like each other
about 10 other smaller things (articles, short stories, excerpts) that i shall not be naming individually bc this post is already too long
Finished Week 7 (Feb 11-17):
Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie (started in Week 6)
this book flips is like reading a multigenerational family drama with each section involving the slowly growing tension of knowing what horrific historical event/conditions they are about to live through
Venus by Susan-Lori Parks (started same week)
The Way of the House Husband by Kousuke Oono, translated by Amanda Haley (started same week)
“Experiential Gender” in Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity by Julia Serano
“Black (W)holes and The Geometry of Black Female Sexuality” by Evelynn Hammonds
"Unsexed: A Zero Concept for Gender Studies" by Kath Weston
"Of Catamites and Kings: Reflections on Butch, Gender, and Boundaries" by Gayle Rubin (these four i read for a class that i lead the discussion four so while they fall under the category of articles i'm not mentioning right now, i felt they should be included for that reason)
a shit ton of student papers
6 smaller things (articles and abandoned books that i'm skipping for same reason as above)
Finished Week 8 (Feb 18-24):
Story of a Brief Marriage by Anuk Arudpragasam (started same week)
very in-depth descriptions of bowel movements in this
Orange, Vol. 5 by Ichigo Takano, translated by Amber Tamosaitis (started same week)
so cute! once again i am advocating for them to just form a poly triad
He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan (started ages and ages ago...)
you've already seen my frantic reblog spam about this. i'm glad i finally finished reading this. the quarter 3 of it was kind a low point but i think it really captured me again by the end (however, i think the like... FINAL two pages are really scream "remember! that this is technically inspired by some real history!" in a way i found unneccesary and kinda too me out of the satisfaction of the end). i think the ending worked for me because Ma was really underused (i know it would have made the book kinda bloated but i would have loved a chapter or two of her perspective holding down the fort and dealing with internal politics while Zhu was away doing war things....), so her role in the finale was what really solidified it for me. this book drove me crazy in a great way, i think so many people should read She Who Became the Sun and then this sequel
Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 11 by Kamome Shirahama, translated by Stephen Kohler (started same week)
the panelling in this manga is simply so fucking good. read this. its so cute
Orange, Vol. 6: Future by Ichigo Takano, translated by Amber Tamosaitis (started same week)
i don't think this volume was necessary lol... i did not need to know how Suwa and Naho got together in the future where Kakeru died, it was better as implications
Ongoing Reads:
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree (read another chapter)
i am so sorry to my girlfriend who has to deal with me complaining about this book i am reading to her after every chapter... i am glad she is enjoying it regardless
The Farther Shore by Ursula K. Le Guin, narrated by Rob Inglis (about halfway through)
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien (basically read the preface material so far)

I want to preface this with I respect your decision as a writer to have mouse not drink caffeine as a recovering addict.
But I would also like to say that some addicts turn to other "benign" addictive substances while in the recovery phase and then wean off of them, in turn, to help with withdrawals and to soothe the ache of having been addicted and missing the substance, it's a way to cope. So that may have been deliberate on the part of the writers, but even if it wasn't, it still makes sense from an addiction standpoint, particularly if the recovery is undertaken mostly on your own. A substitute is sometimes even recommended by professionals. Things like sugar (jelly beans) and caffeine, (energy drinks, coffee) are common for people in recovery to turn to!
I'm used to people pushing back against that headcanon because "tea has caffeine too!!!" (I know that, because I have to watch what tea I buy, personally, so I don't get anything that doesn't have a crazy caffeine content because I'm cutting back so much myself) so I was braced for that. This is a very pleasant surprise, and something I didn't personally consider because I can research and babble and talk myself in circles any day of the week, but I freely admit that I have very little relevant experience in the realm of addiction.
I did recognize that habit with the jellybeans! Although, I think that's a little bit easier to pick up on considering what little we know about Mouse's past substance abuse - the only real concrete detail is Jay's "popping pills" comment in 4x02, and as a lover of jellybeans (and someone who is on prescription medication), I know the shape and the mouthfeel. I realized he's snacking on jelly beans in 4x04 of Chicago Fire and immediately made the connection of "oh, that's potentially an open opportunity for angst! that might be a way of self-medicating his own self-medication!"
Tumblr media
Alternatively, I know that some of the times we see Jay snacking or eating or drinking something on screen, it's just Jesse needing a snack on a long set day. So this could very feasibly be Sam just munching or grabbing something he thinks looks good or he planted in the fridge during the take.
Personally, I am very hesitant to think the writers did something like that on purpose, simply because the writing around Mouse, specifically was... not good. I have quite a few complaints about how underused he was even as a side character, the way the team treated him, all of that. I just feel like they didn't put enough thought into Mouse as a character to make a little decision with big meaning like that? Especially when we see him high and a little off the legal rails in 1x15, his first appearance, there's a short conversation about it when he appears again in 2x16, and then absolutely nothing else about him or his backstory outside of Jay in any capacity until 4x02 when he got his past addiction and felony record thrown in his face.
That being said, I could be wrong! I wasn't in the writers' room, and I don't know what they or Sam were thinking when those scenes were being written and filmed. It could have also been a directorial decision made on the spot when they were filming the scene!
I was going to put a gif of Mouse with the energy drink here but apparently I don't have one that actually shows the can??? Weird. I'll have to add that to my list of things to make after the move when I get settled in.
But thank you for the insight! I probably won't change how I write him, just because 90% of the time I ignore canon and write in AUs anyway, but it definitely adds some interesting depth to those scenes when I rewatch them! 💜

I Went Back Through Winx Season 4 and I have Feelings
Now you may have seen my post about my rewatch of Winx Club Season 3 where I shared a few frames that I liked and I wanted to share. Well now since apparently I'm rewatching the entire show now I went through Season 4 and I kinda wanted to do the same thing. Then that idea kinda mutated due to something I've neglected to mention.
I Fucking LOVE this season. It has problems I'm well aware but still. Believix is my favorite ever transformation, I love the season sound track and it brought so many cool characters into the show that are criminally underused these days. I'll talk about some funny moments, some sad ones, and ones that just make my heart soar with happiness, or ones that make me want more.
(Of course spoilers for season 4 but uh... it's been out for years so I'm not going to tag that)
Here we go, this is long so be warned but so are my feelings. (PS: this get's more intense and deep the further we go so... yeah, and it may become mulitple posts idk)
Tumblr media
First up Tecna's face. Why does she look so mad?! Then again she literally threw herself into a vortex and got sucked into Ice Hell and now she has to do basic manual labor, honestly I'd be mad too.
Tumblr media
"The Winx are going to beat you to death" saga continues (If I can find something in S5 for this I will howl like a hyena)
Tumblr media
Okay tell me if I'm crazy but that girl with the purple curly hair looks like Stormy in disguise? Maybe that oppositus spell had lasting effects on her pchyche and created a second persona, who knows?
Tumblr media
Oh and this! This camper van or whatever the specialists get the Winx has antena. Like seriously. I guess it could be to tie into their fairies which have insect wings but it still looks stupid. Also I'd feel like it's cause some issues line of sight wise.
Tumblr media
Ogron: Oh you're apporaching me?
Bloom: I can't get kick your ass without getting closer.
This immediately made me think of that and I kind of love that.
Tumblr media
Roxy going feral at Gantlos for calling Artu just a dog gives me life, also it's just so fitting for it to give her her fairy form
Tumblr media
Oh and she's so pretty! I so wish she got to have more transformations eventually. She was robbed of Butterflix and you cannot convince me otherwise. She literally had butterflies already come on!
Tumblr media
Gantlos is just so fucking done with the Winx's nonsense, and i'd say same but he's a fairy hunter so suffer.
Tumblr media
Cursed Stella. That's it, good lord Girl what happened to you?
Tumblr media
This Roxy outfit deserved so much more. I think it shows up once more and again in season six but still it's SO refresing to see Roxy in something new. Can we just agree Roxy deserved some more outfits later on instead of getting locked in that stupid paw shirt for all eternity. I'm sorry it's not that bad but it's just so old at this point to me good lord. Roxy got fucking robbed of everything.
Tumblr media
I'm just going to say it, I love the wizard's outfits honestly. Especially how Duman, Gantlos, and Ogron are all in dresses/skirts and honestly there all a little feminine. What I don't love is that the only feminine men this show has ever had are some of the most sadistic villains as well. Men can be feminine and not be evil for Fucks sake!
Tumblr media
And now for the Earth fairies to steal the show for a bit, particulary Morganna cause I completely forgot how much I liked her as a character. I love her design a lot cause she is gorgeous. I love her dress and her hair and even her wings even if there a little basic, her color scheme being green and blue makes sense cause from space... well those are the colors of the earth but before we leave this scene...
Tumblr media
Why is everyone so surprised when she invites them to join her court? She hasn't even brought up the vengence so the shock seems strange to me, loving Bloom's face though. On a more somber note...
Tumblr media
Right before the door closes you can see Morganna frown, which makes sense cause not only will her vengence force her to fight other fairies but she'll have to fight her daughter as well. Oooh I love details like this cause it shows that her being Roxy's mom wasn't a last minute idea and they thought it through (Well not really but we'll get to that later)
Tumblr media
Let's take a small moment to appreciate Flora's cat. I don't know their name but I love them so much. Flower kitty supremacy, you deserved to meet your dumb wolf brother you sweet ball of cuteness
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact let's appreciate all the fairy pets, and not only them but the fact all the Winx have little carriers for theirs and Bloom has one for both her's and Kiko. Flora making me mad jealous as usual cause I wish I could carry my cat around in a purse. So cute.
Tumblr media
Not Roxy lowkey giving Timmy a "Why are you so thirsty?" look. Good lord I did not appreciate her enough when i first watched this.
Tumblr media
And Diana is here, we can now bow. I really forgot how much i loved the major fairies cause dang. Her hair, her wings, her powers having the detail of lightning making it look a lot more wild compared to Flora's. Spectacular. I'll get to Aurora and Nebula don't worry.
Tumblr media
I don't know if this has happened before but the Winx briefly glowing their respective color after transforming seems new. I don't know correct me if i'm wrong but I honestly really like it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Musa and Tecna being really extra in the air for no particular reason I just love. I wish we got this more in the newer seasons cause now they just float there soulessly. Let my fairies be flamboyant!
Tumblr media
Flora's hair normally
Tumblr media
Flora's hair up. No. Fuck no that is not happening. There is no way all that hair can go up in those tiny buns, and that goes for Aisha too. What kind of Tardis scrunchies do they got?
Tumblr media
And Once again Tecna's face is just priceless, I don't know what it is but it just makes me laugh
Tumblr media
Ah yes, Roxy being told to hang back for... not really a good reason. Yeah she doesn't have Believix but they let her come along to deal with Aurora so what happened there? And you'd think a fairy able to get animals on their side would be fantastic for a mission in a wild rainforest but no. This is the beginning of the end for you Roxy...
Tumblr media
Stella being completely calm so close to a wild snake is just... so cool to me. Cause going off the basic fashion girl character you'd think she'd freak out and scream but no. Stella is different, she's rebellious and she loves nature and the world and appreciates it and is nice to it. Stella got so degraded later on but she was so cool at first. I want this Stella back please.
Tumblr media
Can I just say that Flora and Diana deserved more one on one stuff, there both fairies connected to nature and we get barely any stuff with just them. I would love a fanfic with these two just bonding- or OR Flora could bring some lynphean plants and show Diana, theres just so much potential and none of it was used. Enngh...
Tumblr media
Also Diana is actually really tall, which as a tall girl myself I appreciate. Yes she is wearing heels but everyone does in this show so that point is mute. Love ya girl, sorry you just get ignored for the rest of the season though (Seriously why weren't her and Aurora at Tir Nan Og during the cermony?)
Okay well with Diana's venegence ended now so is this post, cause only thirty images per post so I'll make a sequel for the rest of this eventually.
