Niffty Redesign! (3/7)

Holy shit was not expecting to finish in the same day much less in like… under 4 hours??? IDK IM HAPPY WITH HER THOUGH!!!!

My biggest inspiration this time was lovebugs and specifically this LPS lovebug

Yes im colour picking Niffty from a littlest pet shop. Who is gonna stop me? Hasbro? They don’t even own LPS anymore!

Im making Niffty a bit tanner because while I see it a lot in other fandoms, I don’t ever see tan asian people in the Hazbin fandom, tbh this place seems like its allergic to melanin in general. There’s also a lot of stigmatisation around POC women in Hazbin like I’ve mentioned before. I plan on having Niffty deal with a decent chunk of stuff later on, a lot of it relating to obessions and romance and learning how to manage feelings like that and keep relationships with other people.

I wanted her socks to be cute but also held up by a garter belt so you can gather she’s got something going on. People seem to stray away from the topic of Niffty and sex or romance because they see her as a child or have infantalised her in some way. Yes ik I talk about this all the time but like GOD it pisses me off.

Her maid dress is actually a much darker shade of hot pink to the point its not really hot pink anymore but it is I promise

Niffty’s main sins are lust, wrath, and envy, seeing as she is a lovebug and also her current backstory is killing a lover out of jealousy. The redder pink parts are supposed to be a mix of lust and wrath so I hope that comes across well?

The same thing can be said about her clothes and all that. With her dress and the reddish hearts it’s supposed to be like “in one sin there’s another” but idk how well I pulled it off. The stitched up heart is also supposed to represent her hopeful/eventually redemption. I’d like to give Niffty more character than just “crazy small lady” so I’ll be trying to balance being somewhat like that with also being a bit sensible. I think it definitely could be done but I have doubts Viv will do much with it.

It really sucks that the POC characters and especially women they just get reduced to one or two traits and then thats it. Viv already is terrible at writing women and I think writing Niffty for her is just boring because, again, she cannot write women. 90% of this rewrite is me saving the women/hj

There will be more indepth Niffty content from me eventually, as of now this is my backbone for her design and overall story. Btw I think her rubber gloves are cute but make really annoying squeaking sounds 24/7. No idea if I’ll pull off another fast design like this, but we shall see!🐐

Small post on my redesign of Rosie. Decided to make her more like a vulture, specifically a Black Vulture as they’re known to engage in cannibalism. Not live cannibalism, but they have been seen to eat dead members of their own species.

It’s at this point I’ve realized how much I’ve made the cast more anthropomorphic, and it just kinda became unintentional cause I like drawin’ critters. But it’s also fun to give them more distinctive silhouettes and deeper meanings through using these animals. Even if most of them were from the original designs, it’s cool to give a deeper meaning to some of them.

Was originally going to make her a mantis, but many people have went the insect route. Also gives me another excuse to draw more birds.

Probably wouldn’t change much about her character, although I have leaned more into the Southern Belle aspect of her character. Also would get rid of the weird Bostonian accent she has in the show. As much as I like the voice I just don’t think it fits.

Some lil bonus info, cause I have also changed the town although I still have yet to make background redesigns. She’s still the head of the town and has overlord status, and she’d normally run it with her partners who always seem to pass before her. She will eat her deceased partners once they pass out of respect, and as a memento to them she keeps some of their feathers to use as the headpiece for her hat.

The town still looks and acts friendly under the guise of “southern hospitality.” Everyone in the town is also an animal that engages in cannibalism, so you’ll have the classic ones like mantises, frogs, and many fish species; but you’ll also find more unconventional ones like lions, leopards, and hamsters. All giving off the guise of this nice cute animal town that leaped out of a storybook, but in actuality is full of cannibals.

hazbin hotel redesigns wooooooooo

okay so. i'm gonna discuss my thoughts about them n shit, putting under a readmore bc it's gonna get long and rambley. sorry in advance for the shit formatting, i'm on mobile </3

just some general shit about how i would rewrite it. i think the premise of redeeming sinners is entertaining but is executed horribly. i also am a fan of the "heaven isn't great either" idea but again, executed horribly. i'd make the hierarchy of angels more accurate because it's cool as hell and i have autism about it. the characters from hell would swear still (albeit not as much), but the angels would outright refuse to swear or make vulgar jokes ever. this would be partially to further the gap between heaven and hell and make the differences more stark.

hell would also be more like dante's inferno (again because i think its cool). the ars goetia would get a full redesign and would be more prevalent in demonic society.

now for the characters!

---

VAGGIE VALTIEL:

starting off with vaggie, or Valtiel as i've renamed her because let's be honest her original name sucks. Valtiel (Val for short) was an aspiring power angel who wanted to be an exorcist. she looked up to lute and thought the idea of killing demons was really cool and badass. however when she actually was on the field for the first time she discovered how awful this actually was. she tried to help a few demons but lute figured it out and felled her right then and there. the rest of her story is relatively the same. personality wise she's more stoic and less prone to all-out aggression. she still get angry, sure, but it's in a quieter and more menacing way. you DO NOT want to fuck with Valtiel.

CHARLIE:

next up is charlie! i had two ideas for her. the first one (unsettling drawing) has her as a mannequin/doll type demon. lucifer and/or lilith was unable to conceive and as such they built a kid from scratch. she's overall similar to og charlie personality wise, very kind and cheerful despite her unsettling appearance. she struggles with empathy sometimes but really does mean well. her motive for rehabilitating sinners is so they get to see their family again. being able to see heaven from where they are in hell must make them sad, so she wants to help make them happy again!

the second idea for charlie has her as an angel. specifically i casted her as a dominion angel due to their reputation as holy judges. she was once a demon but has been rehabilitated and has risen into angelhood! she now wants to help her former kin do the same and redeem themselves in heaven's gaze. again, similar cheery personality, but a bit more prudish in this rendition

tangent time!

as a side tangent, valtiel and charlie would have a different relationship in this rewrite. their relationship felt shoehorned in in the original show, like it was just there for the hell of it. we didn't see much development between them and it just felt kinda bland. so in my rewrite, charlie and valtiel are amiable exes. they tried dating when valtiel first fell (when charlie was still a demon in the charlie-angel version) but realized their feelings for each other were much more platonic than romantic. they ended things off on good terms, deciding they were much better as friends. they are still besties to this day! later charlie ends up with emily (or 'ellie' as i plan to rename her)

back to the characters

Alastor:

note: i made alastor mixed-race, which could be seen as bad by some due to vivzie saying he's black. however, as many have pointed out, he has no ethnic features whatsoever and i honestly wouldn't be surprised if she said that just to get away with using voodoo symbols (a closed religion) in his imagery/design. like viv, i am incredibly white and have little to no knowledge of voodoo, and even if i did i would not use it for something like this anyways due to the stigma the religion already has and (again) it being a closed practice. as such i removed it from his concept altogether, but made him mixed race (white passing) because.. why not i guess, i forgor my actual reasoning

with that being said...

alastor is by far my favorite of the redesigns and i'm honestly tempted to turn him into a legally distinct oc. i imagine he's somewhat reserved, along the lines of norman bates albeit a bit more extroverted. during his life he was a serial killer with a day job as a radio announcer. he took pleasure in reporting about his own murders on the radio, but that is eventually what got him caught (ie accidentally letting slip info that wasn't released to the public). as a result he was sentenced to death. upon arriving in hell, he quickly rose through the ranks to borderline overlord status and is a feared presence by demons and sinners alike. why is he bothering to assist in the hotel project? who knows... his motives are a mystery, like the rest of what he does

(he isn't actually alastair crowley i just thought the naming convention was ironic. however he may have also dabbled with satanic magic in lifetime..)

Angel Dust:

TW: brief discussion of SA

this is definitely my second favorite redesign. i loooove insect themes and wanted to do more than just Extra Arms, so he now has fucked up legs and a lot of eyes too! story-wise, angel used to be a criminal mastermind, hated by both the mafia and the feds. he was a gentleman thief, arranging massive heists under the cover of night while also partaking in the occasional drag show. he ended up a cocaine addict later in life, which caused his work to become sloppier. eventually he was killed in a heist gone wrong, specifically shot by the police.

i'm not gonna go too in-depth on the SA part of his story, but he is hypersexual due to being assaulted in both his life and afterlife. it would be something he'd be working on in the rewrite. his reason for coming to the hotel in the first place may have even been for help with this trauma. underneath his sultry exterior is a broken guy who really just needs someone to care about him for who he really is and not for what his body can do.

LUTE:

so lute and adam are some of the characters i have the most gripes about. the biggest one being why viv chose adam as the leader of the exorcists in the first place. if she wants a biblical figure tied to demon killing, Archangel Michael is RIGHT THERE, aka the one destined to kill satan during the events of Revelations. if she wants the first human to die, that would be Abel, not Adam. and i kinda doubt abel would want to do the stuff that HH!adam has been doing. if she wants an angel related to torture, Dumah is her guy! an angel that rules over wicked souls and tortures sinners every day except sabbath. so many better options...

with that out of the way, Lute is still the lieutenant of the exorcist, who are a specially chosen group of powers sent to purge hell once a year. think navy seals. she's pretty much the same as in the show, albeit more muscular and visually different from other exorcists (seriously why do they all look exactly the same?????) she's a very repressed lesbian who hasn't had time to work on that due to her duties

i also redesigned the exorcist uniform/armor because those LED purge masks are fugly as hell and their clothes don't even look remotely like armor.

Adam + Final Thoughts

i did start a redesign of adam but got bored of it. regardless, i think he'd be the head of C.H.E.R.U.B. instead of the exorcists. he doesn't want his children to make the same mistakes he and eve did, so together they started C.H.E.R.U.B. to help lost souls stay out of hell

final thoughts uhhhh i'm tired. show sucks, it had so much potential but viv ruined it by being a shitty writer and an even shittier person. the designs are fine i guess but they all look exactly the same and are in desperate need of variety. the humor is dogshit, saying dick and balls and penis over and over and over again doesn't make it any funnier than the first three times you made that joke. anyways that's it, i hope you liked my inane ramblings. gonna go vanish for another forty years or so, adios

Adam Redesign!!

didn’t think he would be the first redesign i posted, but i haven’t made the others animation friendly yet!! ik his real face isn’t, but ill edit that later

anywho. the first man was not white. in my rewrite(Happy Hostel) he acts more covert in his assholery because subtlety is A Concept. he plays the part of a loving husband and father whilst exterminating sinners yearly. he pretends to help Charlie with her ideas but is practically bullshitting his way through. he’s bitter that his first sons were hurt by Lucifer, and wants to make all of Hell pay for it. despite Cain literally living there

lucifer redesign but i practically changed his entire character (redesign notes under the cut)

things i kept :

• the ringmaster like outfit. i actually really enjoy the idea of the deadly sins looking like circus acts, i think it's a pretty neat concept

• the snake and apple motifs. i exaggerated them a bit more tho

• the purple eyeshadow. i think it brings a nice pop of colour to his design

• the crown on his top hat

things i changed :

• i detwinkified him. with the twink death ray

• his staff. its now a pitchfork/trident thingy with the stabby things coming out of the apple

• he's a lion now because they symbolize pride

• i made him look more demonic than angelic, giving him 3 sets of horns (the 3rd set is really small and on his forehead so its pretty hard to see)

• i gave him a lot more red. ik one of the problems with hazbin is that it has too much red, but since red is the pride rings assigned color according to the show so i decided to roll with that

• i put his wedding ring on one of his horn

• he has a lot more gold/gold accents to symbolize his royal status n shit

aaaaand yeah thats basically it for him. i'll be posting Lilith and Charlie's redesigns soon :]

Utterly terrified to post this, but Alastor redesign!

- Removed his deer theme, and changed it to an owl due to the fact that. As a native person, I personally felt uncomfortable by the wend*go theming- would not feel comfortable doing that.

- alongside, an owl (otus scops) to be exact would fit Alastor just the same as owls are very vocal and alongside they are birds of prey. Hunters of the night, stalkers, etc.

- And also as a black person, was a tad confused when he had little to no creole features? Of course, my brothers and sisters come in all different colors and sizes, but the problem is… In media, we need to be represented and seen instead of hidden by tweets.

- i also gave him sepia colors instead of red for variety :)

- wanted to make it look like he cannot LIVE without a radio as well !!

Sir Pentious Redesign! (2/7)

It took way longer than expected to get this guy out but I think it was worth it!

Going to start off with the biggest gripe that Vivzie never makes characters look like their respective eras or set times. For Sir Pentious finding out hes OLDER than alastor made my jaw drop to the goddamn floor. While I was inspired by fashion from 1888, I mostly wanted him to have a steampunk-ish vibe and give him some things from times different than when he died. I guess I’m a bit guilty of making him look like he’s from a different era but he still doesn’t look modern I guess?

I took a big chunk of inspiration from the King Cobra for his colours and scales but I think leaving the type of snake he is a little ambiguous is more flexible.

Things like the green in his eyes and vest and gloves are once again my usage of the sin colour wheel I go crazy about. Sir Pentious is a very envious person in the show to an extent and definitely is in my rewrite. I also kind of wanted him to look like an opposite to Angel Dust with all his pink because inverted colours yknow. Seeing as they eventually become friends and all that in my rewrite I’d like for them to look nice together!

The brown is also a lot easier on my eyes than the black and red and yellow was so I’m pretty happy with that too. I was very attached to his goggles though so he gets those and the little extra magnifying bits for designing

I think I’ll eventually end up adding more to this post later on but for now this is what I’ve got so far! I love this funny british snake and I plan to get the next redesign out much sooner… hopefully. 🧹

I'm not the first person to point this out, but HH would have worked so much better and would have been far less frustrating to watch, if Charlie wasn't the Princess of Hell. She does jackshit with her powers and influence in the show proper, so what's exactly the point of her being royalty?

The show sort of frames her as the traditional underdog with a seemingly impossible goal that she gradually achieves by hard work and dedication. And yet it doesn't work, because she is incredibly privileged by Hell's standards and therefore, her struggles are pretty shallow (especially compared to other members of the main cast).

Why not have Charlie be an ordinary sinner/hellborn with a laughably impossible goal and have ALASTOR be the Prince of Hell, who is interested in seeing the Hotel situation unfold first-hand and thus he becomes Hotel's protector and sponsor? It would work far better personality-wise, it would make Charlie actually work hard for her goal and, most importantly, it would close many thinly-veiled plotholes present in the show (like Charlie straight up ignoring Angel's situation because she is 'too nice' to use her status against Val).

Having the Prince of Hell sponsoring her project would give Charlie a big advantage, but she still would have to prove herself many times and put in a lot of effort in creating and maintaining the hotel, while being wary of Al turning against her and potentially dealing with Overlords taking a notice of the hotel, because of Al's sponsorship. THAT is far closer to being an underdog story.

Besides, that way we could get introduced to Hell's Royal Family and Heaven's officials more gradually and naturally. AND it would make far more sense for Charlie to accept Alastor's help if he was a bigshot royalty and she was a pretty weak demon power-wise and influence-wise.

I understand what Viv was going for by making Princess of Hell a nice and naive girl, but if only her being nice and naive matters to the story, what's the point of her overpowered status, especially if it only repeatedly creates obstacles for the writers (including Viv herself)?

Charlie Morningstar Redesign!!

she’s round!! yayyyyy shape language!! i love her so very much:]

our main girl Charlie! her hair is more like her mom’s(because, once more, the first humans were not white) and i leaned more into the goat aspects of her. i tried to make her look more like she runs a hotel and also more welcoming. in her semi-demon form her horns create the shape of an apple with the flame being the stem. her full demon form will be more monstrous

in my rewrite she’ll be more like her pilot self! she’ll have a spine and know how to hold her own. her arc will be realizing her measurement of morality is inherently flawed and she’s gonna try to help people, not “fix” them

forces you to read my absolute brain vomit of an alastor post this is mainly just design notes/reasoning on why i did things, etc!! then a bit of tweaks to his story :3

he's monochrome mostly because it's fun!! it gives cast diversity and i think it fits his character. unlike, for example, vox, who is seen adapting to the times as technology improves, alastor does not. he enjoys the "old fashioned" way of doing things!

on the radio subject, i made him More like a radio!! the dial that holds his tie is what he uses for voice mimicking! his microphone, which i've changed to be more like they were in the 20's, is what projects his voice! hypothetically, if you took it away or broke it, he would be silenced. but al definitely guards this thing with his life.

the microphone it plugged into a port on the back of alastor's neck, but the cord is only visible when someone ELSE is using the mic (which he has only granted to charlie, rosie, mimzy, and maybe even niffty). the cord is 40ft long and usually tied up on his antlers

big change, alastor's "talking" is just his teeth glowing! his teeth only separate to bite or eat! his lips do move, though, albeit only to lessen or widen his smile.

i would like to note that i am completely retconning the voodoo/eldritch horror for obvious reasons. i've decided to go analog! more on that when i feel like it LMAO

about him being mixed, i want to mention something!! as a mixed person!!!: creole is NOT just black!! creole is a mix in itself! anywhore ! :3 alastor was a white-passing man in life! new orleans was one of the better places when it came to racism in the 1890's-1930's, but racism was DEFINITELY still there,, so al being passing really helped with the building of his career(s) (including the murdering career of course). because of this, al was VERY disconnected to his culture, which his mother encouraged. they figured the less he knew about being creole, the more likely he could go under the radar. once he arrived in hell, he presented much more like a man of color. i dont really have much of a particular like... lore reason for this.,, i just wanted to ! :3
