oh honey bee 🥺🤍 i miss you too 😭 thank you all soo much for all the wonderful messages everyone has sent in — there are so many of them, and i have read every single one and cried a little 🤧 i am so sorry that i don’t have the time to respond in detail to each one, but i am so so grateful and touched for all of them, and truly thank you for thinking of me 🌼 i hope you all have been doing well, and life has been treating you kindly 💛💛 it feels like coming home for the holidays after being away for so long 🥹

i finally logged back in today (after needing to reset the pw for this and for the email this blog is linked to oof) but i’m so out of the loop for kpop aside from shinee, bp, and taeyeon 🤧 i heard from alice that nct dream is touring !! 💘 i hope all of you were able to get tickets and i will live vicariously through you :’) and also hbd to renjun today !!!

a life update from me — i’ve been having the time of my life (minus some burnout from work but we won’t talk about that because it still pays the bills very well and then some), and i have long trips to japan with my friend and to australia to visit ti and steph coming up 💕 i have a fun work trip and a keshi concert with my friends including moon next month !! and i have two music festivals lined up for the summer already !!! dpr is coming to hitc nyc and i’m so sad that i’ll be out of the country when it happens but fingers crossed they come for the LA one ! and my friend just texted me a couple days ago about another music festival she randomly got tickets to so vegas here we gooo 🥳 and possibly a second vegas trip too that my other friend brought up today ??? also the usual weekend trips to LA, of course 🤩 omg and i saw jisoo irl up close at their concert and she is beautiful, and i can’t wait for her solo 🥹🫶🏻🫶🏻 and i’m currently blonde 🤧 my hair is really going through it like i first dyed it all lavender, then silver, then blonde, then i chopped it mid length and dyed it pink, then pastel pink, now it’s blonde, and it’ll be rose gold in two weeks !!! also i made like $5k from my investments and stocks, and i’m so incredibly proud of myself even though i know it’s not much compared to others :’) and i bought a chanel bag to celebrate my career milestone when i was promoted last year and got a big raise and bonus !!!! 🥳 i found the one i wanted after checking shops over the span of five months in like 8 cities and 5 countries djjdjkskd OH and i still hang out with els and she is still very much in l*ve with taeyong and jaehyun 💞 also blind boxes, specifically sanrio ones, have taken a chokehold on me thanks to els, and i’m still playing genshin so gacha addiction go brrr

tldr ; i’m really happy and content with where i’m at, and i sincerely hope from the bottom of my heart that every single one of you is experiencing the same amount, if not, even more, of happiness in your lives, honey bees 🤍🐝✨ as always, i’m sending you all my love and well wishes, ily all so so much 🌷🌷

Do you mind me asking how you get such vibrant, lustrous coloring without sacrificing quality, and without making faces unnaturally/overly red/orange? In other words, do you have any tips on how to get vibrant coloring and crisp gifs? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Happy New Year~ ♡

okk first things first! i’m so so sorry this answer is super late. i had this saved in my drafts for ages but i completely forgot to post this (that’s why it still say happy new year down below 😭😭). everything below this paragraph is what i meant to post earlier. again, i’m so sorry for how late this is. i’m such an idiot i should have checked if i had posted this yet, i thought i did but obviously not.

firstly, i just wanted to say thank you so much for your kind comments 🥺💕 it really means a lot and i'm glad you like my gifs. also happy lunar new year! i hope you had a great day if you celebrated ~

anywayyy onto colouring and ps help! tbh it really depends on the video you are giffing from. i find the number of adjustment layers required varies between videos. despite this, there are a few things that i always do to try to restore skin but it can get a bit complicated so i've tried to explain things more clearly below the cut!

(before i get started, i just wanted to put it out there that i am by no means a professional, nonetheless, i hope i can be of some help!)

tip #1: start off with a curves adjustment layer (note! this isn’t always necessary unless the lighting is really bad. if the lighting is ok, then you can skip this step and have selective colouring as your first adjustment layer. or go ahead and colour as you normally do.)

curves is a lifesaver when it comes to fixing dodgy lighting. this tool comes in handy especially when you're giffing live stages or comeback/fanmeeting vlives. i use the black colour dropper tool (shown below) and select a point on my image that should be the darkest colour (this could be somewhere on their mic/ headset, their hair, or something in the background). this should hopefully sort out the lighting to some extent and make your gif easier to colour after. in the taeyeon gif screenshot below, i think i selected the darkest colour to be a point on her glasses or her mic. (i can’t remember exactly because i made the gif last summer 😅).

(left: no psd, right: curves adjustment layer) i’m using screenshots from a taeyeon vlive gif as an example because vlives are notorious for having terrible lighting and weird filters. as you can see, the image on the left is the original vlive. the lighting for this video is really bad and the colours are really washed out. whereas on the right, after adding a single curves adjustment layer the colours are slightly more vibrant and there’s a greater contrast.

tip #2: after using curves, i tend to use 2 layers of selective colour. the first layer i use is almost like a baseline for my colouring. i find it's easier to make small adjustments and slowly work my way to the final product. sometimes i might include an additional selective colour layer later on, but this really depends on the video i’m giffing from as some videos will require more/less changes.

in terms of restoring skin, you should focus on changing the % levels of the colours: red, yellow, white and sometimes magentas and neutrals (underlined in image below.)

in general, i find increasing the magenta and yellow % of these colours restore the skin (ex in image below.) you can also increase the black % levels to make the red/yellow colours darker. but if you find the skin is looking unnatural and too red/orange then don't be afraid to slightly decrease their levels and increase the % levels of cyan. i've come across a few skin restoration tutorials that talk about increasing only the red or yellow colour levels, but bear in mind skin tones involve all the primary colours, so adjusting the cyan or blue % levels of the reds/yellows can help the skin look more natural. reducing the black % levels for the reds can also help when your colouring is too strong or you’re giffing from a performance/mv with red lighting.

tip #3: use channel mixer, colour balance and hue/saturation

channel mixer, colour balance and hue/saturation are very similar to selective colour. they're just different ways of adjusting the hue levels of each colour in your image. if you have more questions about these settings then feel free to ask! (this tutorial will be too long if i explain here 😭)

tip #4: remove colours you don't want

you can do this via selective colour or hue/saturation. if there's a colour you don't want/need in your image then just remove it by putting the colour value as 0 or -100%. this helps to increase the quality of your gifs if there are less colours as this will reduce the file size, preventing tumblr from compressing your gif if it is too large.

tip #5: another curves layer

i add another curves layer at the end. but this time instead of using the colour-dropper tools, i adjust the RGB, red, green, and blue settings. (click on the drop-down list and then adjust by moving the curve at the centre point.)

RGB - moving the curve upwards (towards the left, in the north-west direction) makes the image brighter; in the opposite direction it makes the image darker.

Red, Green, Blue - moving the curve upwards makes the image more red/green/blue and vice versa in the opposite direction.

in the image below - i used the red setting as an example. if you move the curve by dragging it from the middle, in the direction of the black arrow, then the image will become have darker red tones. if you move it in the direction of the blue arrow the image will have less red tones.

tip #6: high-quality videos, vapour-synth, under 3mb

it sounds obvious, but the original quality of your video really matters. if you want hq gifs then gif from hq videos 👌 preferably 1080p (and higher) or ts files. with that being said, some 4k facecams' quality are terrible, so you'll notice in my facecam sets i've only giffed recent performances because their quality is better than the older ones.

i use vapour-synth to trim and sharpen my gifs. i wouldn't say this program is necessary but it does help! however, i know of many gif makers who don't use vapour-synth and only use ps, and their gifs are still really hq and sharp. a good alternative is using the smart-sharpen tool in ps and you can also add a gaussian blur layer over your image to make the sharpening look less harsh (just be sure to adjust the opacity% of your gaussian blur layer.)

keep your gifs under 3mb! otherwise, tumblr will compress them and make them look more grainy.

tip #7: refer to your other gifs

to match the colouring in a set, i usually have my other gifs open in ps so that i can refer to them and check if the colours are similar. but honestly, i've found over time it's best not to be too pedantic over having matching, cohesive colouring. you don't need to stress over getting every gif to have similar colouring because it's not worth it. giffing on tumblr should be fun, so don't sweat it and just enjoy creating!

at the end of the day, i hope you can always enjoy creating content and have fun making gifs/gfx 😊 but once again, thank you so much for liking my gifs and i hope this tutorial made sense and was of some help to you 💕

weeeeell, my favorites of 2023 list is going to be quite short 😅 leaving aside to.x by taeyeon which i have listened no stop for the entire dicember month, this was the year i became an aespa fan.

spicy was THAT good, like what the hell, it was cute and fun and a perfect song for the summer. then drama came and i became a solid fan, especially after listening the mini album which has zero skips for me and that’s rare if i say so.

after then i would say knock knock, underwater and one kiss by rv.

and that’s it! this was the year for me when it comes to kpop music….. i’m trying to understand if i am too picky or if music in general is just meh…

01. how did you find out about anime? Since childhood? Tmi time hey! My first anime were when I was about 5-6, Sailor Moon (it was on tv every afternoon, super badly dubbed but I lived for it) and Attack No. 1 (this one was on every Sunday morning and my dad used to watch it with me); I watched Inuyasha and Tokyo Mew Mew in highschool a lot, and then I started reading the manga my friends back then used to. I got back into it more when I was 19 due to a friend recommending me Ouran Highschool Host Club. And Death Note was ridiculously popular at uni lmao quite questionable how so many law students loved Light but hey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ c'est la vie

02. what’s your favorite anime? Hmm hard to say. I'll focus first on anime only and not anime based on manga, because that's an entire different thing. So... Free! I would say Free! is honestly my absolute favourite because it hit home with some stuff when it first aired. I related with Haruka a lot. Additionally, it's anime only so it suits this category best! I also enjoyed the visuals and animation of K Project a lot; they were surreal. And if I'm going for anime based on manga (I generally prefer the manga honestly) I would say Natsume Yuujinchou, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun and Fma:b have some of the best anime adaptations. Kny anime is doing well so far too!! For anime based on games, Utapri and Amnesia were great.

03. do you have a favorite j-music/k-pop group/singer? Miyavi, Taeyeon, SNSD, BiSH, The Oral Cigarettes, EXO, Shinhwa, Orange Caramel

04. when is your bday? and how old are you? 9 october // 31 years old (the pandemic birthdays shouldn't count, so I should be 29 forever still)

05. currently, what is your favorite fandom anime? World Trigger, Kny and Jjk

06. despite the ups and downs on tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best? Out of sheer spite. Lololol. Tiffany scrolled through their group chat on Kakao Talk. There was a simple message from Seohuyn: “Unnie-ah, you did well tonight.” Others just sent some stickers, but she knew that they all messaged Taeyeon privately.

Tae had always felt nervous before her performances. However, Tiffany knew that this sensitivity turned into focus and energy once the small girl stepped on stage. Despite that, she still wished she could be there for Taeyeon that night.

Tiffany sighed and threw the phone on her bed. It was early - way too early - and she couldn’t fall back asleep. She could say she was stressed lately, balancing everything from her class to recording, but she felt in control. She thrived on being busy, maybe not as much as her best friend did, but she always enjoyed spending time in the small studio she recorded at. Sometimes she didn’t even have schedule that day, but she still decided to come watch other musicians create. She was awed and humbled by their incredible passion; Tiffany thought that there was nothing greater than seeing an artist be completely absorbed in their element. They looked beautiful. She remembered that the first time she felt like that when she saw Tae recording “If.” Tiffany already knew that the petite girl was possibly her soulmate in their love for music, but Taeyeon took her breath that day. She looked so happy and radiant and Tiffany wondered if she would ever looked like that to others.

She was going to release her new single soon. She was excited - it was the first time she was completely in charge of her music. She was finally able to do what she always wanted: sing and communicate with her friends. Tiffany had acquired a new habit. She had taken a step back from social media, but that didn’t mean that she wasn’t looking out for what sones were up to. They seemed just as excited as she was about her new music, and that was the only thing she wanted. (Although some of them were quite impatient, calling her out on her hiatus which she acknowledged.)

And yet she was restless. She was free, with her family and pursuing whatever she missed out on, but she knew that there was a piece missing. She missed her girls terribly. Tiffany knew she would miss them, but that didn’t make it less hard. The girls seemed to miss her too and to her glee, they took turns to visit her. Seeing them always made her feel even more sure that whatever would happen to them in the future would never break their bond.

However, there was always one member that came to her mind. Thinking about Taeyeon made her heart feel heavy, so she avoided letting the smaller girl enter her mind too often. Tiffany turned in bed, giving up trying to go back to sleep. Maybe if she let herself think about Tae for awhile, her mind would be calm. It had always been like that, but not recently. Tiffany reached toward her bedside, picking up a small polaroid they took just after they got the news that they were debuting together. She traced their faces, so innocent and happy. It was no doubt happiness that engulfed her when she stood on stage with her friends, but she knew there was loneliness too. The loneliness took over in the end and she needed to flee. As she kept gazing at the photo, her fingers touched the face of her best friend, who was laughing at her tears of joy. In their early years, Taeyeon was always upbeat and cheeky - something that the fans loved. However, as the girl matured, she seemed to withdraw into herself more, her responses becoming shorter and smiles more strained, which Tiffany didn’t pry about, as long as Taeyeon could smile genuinely when they were together. She hated to admit it, but she knew she and Taeyeon had been drifting apart. Tiffany knew how Taeyeon felt about her decision to leave SM, but she trusted that the latter would forgive her, because she knew how suffocated she felt in Korea.

That was why she was surprised when Tae hugged her from behind and muttered a soft “stay” into her hair as she was packing after the members came to Tiffany’s house to celebrate her coming back to visit.

She was surprised because the first time she left Korea and SM, Tae just sat on the couch in the lounge impassively, trying to pretend to ignore the noise coming from the younger girl’s room. Sure, she hugged Tiffany and said that she would like to see her soon, all while smiling sadly. Taeyeon didn’t go to see her off to the airport and Tiffany didn’t ask. It wasn’t the first time she was leaving, but somehow it felt more definite. She would be coming back, but would it ever be the same? As Tiffany pushed her suitcase towards the hallway, she couldn’t help but look back at the apartment that she hated and loved at the same time. It didn’t seem any different from when she was living in it, and she wondered how long it would take before everyone would fill the spot she left in their heart. How Taeyeon would drift even further from her. She let her eyes rest on her roommate, best friend and soulmate of 13 years and smiled. Taeyeon was flipping through the TV programs as always, except this time nobody complained and whined about finally settling for anything. She turned to leave when she heard a small muffled sob. Tiffany froze - she knew if she looked back, she would never be able to leave. So she sighed and close the door quietly.

She wondered what would happen if she went back that day. Tiffany knew that Tae would deny deny deny because she foolishly thought that Tiffany didn’t know her like the back of her hand. And yet, although she always knew, Tiffany didn’t know how to deal with Taeyeon. That was probably the reason they always kept some distance with each other, no matter how long or they had been friends. She froze when Taeyeon whispered the quiet “stay.” She froze when Taeyeon let her go, sat on her bed to wipe a stray tear as she mocked a laugh and said that she was kidding. She froze when hurt flashed by Taeyeon’s dark brown eyes when she stood up to leave the younger girl’s room.

Taeyeon has been cold to her ever since. She was used to it by now - the older girl would have a phase now and then when she simply didn’t feel like giving the effort to communicate. And that was fine, because deep down Tiffany knew that Taeyeon cherished her and loved her, no matter what. Moreover, that period would always disappear as soon as it started because although Tiffany knew to give Taeyeon space, she always went to great measures to let Tae know that she was there. It was a pint of ice cream or a pack of gummy bears or just a funny video of puppies. Taeyeon would not respond, but Tiffany knew that her efforts were reciprocated. In no time, Taeyeon would knock softly on her door, wait for her in front of the building she had a meeting at or simply sit next to her as she was watching some stupid rom com with Adam Sandler (Tae hated them). She’d pretend that she didn’t give anyone the cold shoulder for the last few days, snuggling comfortably into Tiffany’s side, asking gently as she held out a pack of Fany’s favorite chocolate: “Want some?”

Others didn’t let it slide easily, but Tiffany knew all of Taeyeon’s quirks and flaws and came to love them.

Taeyeon was literally a kid. She loved to tease Tiffany and Seo, she loved candy and cartoons. She threw tantrums a lot, she liked to swear and when she was mad, she liked to sulk (by changing Fany’s nickname, for example). Taeyeon was sensitive. The small girl was no doubt one of the strongest people she’s ever met, but Tiffany knew Tae tried to bear more than she could take. Her heart broke for her every time Taeyeon got frustrated with some English words in her songs or when she didn’t come home until the wee hours in the morning. Taeyeon wanted to be alone, but she didn’t want to feel lonely. Tiffany always tried to stay up to wait for the girl to come home, smiling softly when Taeyeon looked surprised everytime. She thought about her own loneliness, but Tiffany knew Taeyeon’s was as pronounced - or even more - as hers. The difference was that Tiffany had an outlet, while Taeyeon decided to keep everything to herself. Tiffany wanted to be there for Taeyeon when she would like to confide in her, but that happened less and less as the years passed.

Was she really there for Taeyeon though? She always thought that she was Tae’s rock, but that night as she was pondering about what had happened between them and their friendship, Tiffany realized that she had always been eager to leave. She’d talk about stars and lights in LA and how they made her happy. She would complain about missing her family or burgers and pizzas. Taeyeon would listen and smile at her, encouraging Tiffany to go on happily about her life in the US, about the freedom she cherished. Taeyeon never asked her to stay, except that one time. But Tiffany always knew.

She remember the pact they made with each other - to support each other no matter what - and she wondered if she broke it. Tiffany sat up, frustrated, tears suddenly streaming down her face. She wanted to be there for Taeyeon, but she didn’t know what she could do. Taeyeon would always come around, but it has been months already and no progress. She wanted to book a flight to come see her, but she got her life as well. She wasn’t sure if she overestimated the strength of their friendship or if Taeyeon would want to see her at all. She knew she missed the smaller girl though, and she’d have to do something about it soon. Heck, she’d kidnap Tae and bring her to the States with her if she agreed. Tiffany smiled as she wiped her tears - Taeyeon was stubborn, so stubborn that she refused to come see Fany.

Tiffany watched Tae’s performance of U R - her favorite song again and again. It’s beautiful and full of emotions as always. She knew the frustration Tae must have felt, because the latter didn’t make mistakes. Taeyeon was a kid, a stubborn, sensitive kid. Tiffany sighed again, because to Fany, despite everything Taeyeon was still the most perfect person in the world. She saw the hurt in Tae that night - Tae never cried out of frustration in front of anybody except for her - but she was proud because the small girl finished her performance with a blast, braving through everything, just like she had always done. She let her emotions known the the whole world and the younger girl was so so proud. Tiffany realized that maybe she wasn’t worried about Taeyeon, but about herself. She hoped that one day, she could have as much strength and power as the petite girl. Maybe that day Tiffany’d finally come and kidnap Taeyeon into her arms. Maybe.

Tiffany opened her phone again, seeing Tae’s reply to the girls. She noticed that her message went without a response though, and her heart sank again. That was before she refreshed the thread. There was still no response, but Tiffany smiled brightly at the small letters.
