HANNAH WEINER
"It Walks"
It walks.
That is,
it puts one foot in front of another
and moves in the direction of its face,
which is in the front of it,
and in the direction its eyes are looking,
if its eyes are in its face.
While it walks
it can look at scenery,
or think, if it thinks,
or just move closer to an ant
or a new job
or a piece of log to sit on
in between the walking.
Then it sits:
it lowers its ass, which is the hind part,
onto the log,
if it has an ass.
Because if it doesn’t
it lies.
That is,
its entire body rests upon the log
and all its legs fold under
or spread out
or go in the air
depending on how its legs are attached,
and where.
And arms,
if it has arms,
which are legs
that are not needed to walk on.
If it has arms
and legs
and an ass
it can ride a bicycle!
Then the scenery goes by much faster
if it is looking at scenery,
and it gets where it is going faster
if it is going somewhere.
Faster:
it can do it more often
between sunrise and sunset
or between sunset and sunrise
if it does it at night.
That is,
if it can do what it is doing
on a bicycle.

im glad that my mom died anon back to explain myself:
well, honestly i keep thinking about this book in terms of it’s popularity and my opinion about it after reading it was - „it is popular to say anything”. to me, the most popular works are usually bad because they’re easy to digest and boring - so i’m stuck on No Opinion about igtmm - also with the argument of „i never read book like these (mental health memoirs/trauma memoirs) so i don’t have anything to compare to” and „i liked it only because it was relatable to me” and yet i keep thinking about it a lot. idk i think i’m just surprised that someone who reads as much as you do thinks that highly about the most popular book of 2022. maybe things sometimes get popular for a reason
no, I completely get that! i generally agree (and also generally avoid mainstream/popular books about disability, especially psych disability and ESPECIALLY disorderly eating). my curiosity about this book was mostly fueled by 1) an interest in some of the other topics mccurdy discussed, including religious abuse and sexual abuse in the entertainment industry, and, of course, 2) having grown up with icarly and loving/admiring miranda and jeanette as a kid, and also wondering "where jeanette went", especially in the wake of the news about schneider's vile abuse.
the centrality of mccurdy's experiences with anorexia and bulimia were actually a surprise to me, and initially made me worried to continue, and it was the sheer quality of mccurdy's writing and storytelling that compelled me to keep going - she is just a genuinely good writer, and a clever comedian in the style of hannah gatsby, able to exercise the full gamut of emotions in a reader without abandoning them/us to despair.
in terms of the actual depiction of ed-related stuff, I think that mccurdy has an exceptional sense of her own internality. her acting and dance training is undoubtedly an influence on this - she is able to coordinate her bodymind such that the internal experience she expresses are meaningfully readible by outsiders. that is to say, she doesn't write psychiatric disability as i do, and as i would, because she's different from me! she doesn't engage ideas of opacity and illegibility, rather, she highlights moments she is able to share with her interlocutors, and pulls on a shared script of lived experience. i value her depiction for its genuineness and intimacy. i think audiences broadly tapped into her ability to manage particularity and universality. we see ourselves in her work, while also understanding the sheer uniqueness of her narrative (and, as a result, respect her as the authoritative teller of her own story, which is kinda the whole conceit of the book!)
so, that's a longer-ish answer to my own admiration / love of the book! i also thought about what other "popular" books do this –– pretty much the only ones that came to mind were True Biz by Sara Nović, In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, and (for disorderly eating stuff) Milk Fed by Melissa Broder.
if you're looking for a more opaque // Mad depiction of psychiatric disability, try My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki (disorderly eating), The Fast by Hannah Weiner (disorderly eating), and, broadly, A.S. King, one of my all-time favorite authors who writes Mad and narratively experimental YA books (and really deserves more love!!!!). She's best known for Ask the Passengers, but my all-time favorite of hers is Still Life With Tornado.

When I was 13 my mom's best friends was a group of 15 year olds who bullied me. I could go into how a big part of that was her joining in with the absolute tearing down of my character at a youth group I used to enjoy before it started, or how I couldn't escape it because after my 2 hours a week at youth group I'd have to go home with the woman who just brought them more material to pick at me for but I won't. I want to talk about how my mom had a job, she would put on her little blouse suit and trousers 5 days a week, arranging viewings on houses and sorting out lease agreements, but none of her coworkers knew she'd go home on a Friday night and catch up with her besties, a clique of 15 year old mean girls. She used to scold me at home for liking Hannah Montanna and stimming when I was stressed and having evidence of my special interests at youth group because it would "embarrass her infront of her friends" and implied that I could be friends with them too if i had a makeover and started being normal??. Like ma'am, I don't know how to tell you this, but you are not Regina George, you aren't Gretchen Weiners, you are not even Cady, you are a 40 year old woman who has inserted yourself into the lives of these kids. This isn't you reliving your past bullied child self's dream of being popular, you aren't Veronica Sawyer right now, you are the weird lady who has an inappropriate relationship with the children of 4 of your peers. My 13 year old dream wasn't to be in the clique with you it was that I had a normal mom who didn't have some weird Peter Pan complex wherein she felt like finally getting to be the mean girl 30 years after she was bullied was her life's achievement. How are you gonna go home on an evening after work, pour yourself a glass of red wine and do some macrame watching Murder She Wrote then on a Friday put on some skinny jeans and bully your own child with a clique of teen girls? And then treat me like I'm lucky I have a cool mom? How do you not see that that is incredibly embarrassing. Not just for me, having to stand there in front of kids and adults who can clearly see my mom is emotionally stunted enough to bully her daughter to look cool infront of the popular kids, but for you too? How can you stand there popping bubblegum and snickering with a group of teens and not see how you look right now?Honestly when I was 13 I used to cry myself to sleep over this shit. Now I'm 25 and it's the funniest thing to me. That the highlight of her life for like 2 years was cosplaying a 15 year old girl ganging up on her 13 year old daughter. She had a bejeweled phone case!!1!!!11!! Adults at the group complained about her because her relationship with their children was wholly inappropriate. She had a smart, quiet, kind hearted 13 kid she could have nurtured into a confident capable adult but instead she decided her teenage dream of being a mean girl was a better deal. That's fucking hilarious.

List of Jewish Characters for the Panfandom Hanukkah Bingo
I've gotten a few requests for a list of Jewish characters to help people brainstorm for the bingo -- just as a reminder, Jewish headcanons and fanons are totally allowed for the event, so if you don't KNOW whether your character is Jewish, it's totally fine to make them Jewish for your fanwork! :)
But, since people asked, here is a little starter-list of 225 fictional Jewish and Jew-ish characters (characters who are "nebulously Jewish," played by Jews, are Jewish in at least one variation of the character, only make sense if they're Jewish, etc.)
Feel free to add! This list is alphabetized by first name.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Honkers!!!
Pretzel again!🥨🤡 Just been living my life thinking of you and how fucking sexy you're getting love! ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 💘
Been following your advice and giving my plushies plenty of attention these past couple days and I gotta say the new greasy burger joint smell my flat took on these past couple days has been great! Having your body produce its own food is super convenient too I practically don't have to shop for food anymore! Well, unless if I wanna spread my mayo on some other salty snack heheheheheheh! Hyuck that reminds me my feet haven't been the only thing that have grown! My new diet is super good and yummy but I've been packing on some extra weight because of it! A big pot belly! Look good on me to be honest, feels like I was always meant to be a greasy gassy lard hog, y'know?
I finally found a use for my dumb buckteeth! 🤪 they're bottle openers durrr! I shoulda guessed!
Anyways I figured for Christmas I'd treat myself a bit and got a nice mani/pedi (my hands with my colors, and my toes with yours!), and you'll never guess who I ran into! A real Christmas miracle! My old friend toe cleavage! Now as tempted as I was to jump her right there and thank her for all the progress she's helped me make as a clown I did my best to keep my sausage at bay and chat it up with her. Proper girl talk you know? Even if I think she was a bit freaked out by the fact that my feet could cover her entire face hyuck! 😳
Well anyway, as luck would have it, she's actually looking for a new therapist. So I figured I'd give her your information! If you get a call from her and she schedules an appointment, you know what to do, "Honey toes"! Up to you if you wanna send her back after she's done cooking. I wouldn't want my Queen to think I'm selfish!
That's all from me for now, but don't worry I didn't forget about that trade offer of yours! I'm thinking of buying a proper camera and put the video of me going down on my feet up online so all the pervs out there can really enjoy my brand of foot worship heheehhe hyuck! It'll be my gift to our amazing community!
Pretzel out, keep up the good work Hannah ✌️😘
Merry Christmas!
Lol Pretzel you nasty girl, living off a diet of mayonnaise and soda pop. When your makeup comes in you’re going to have a bunch of red dots on your face to act as clown acne, you greasy freak!
Good girl playing with your plushies like I told you! Mmmm your greasy babies have got to be taking after their mama by now. Isn’t that right? Their fur is getting ratty and knotted, crusty with your stinky cum. I bet your cum has been bleaching them, their fur turning white over time, while their noses inflate into big red balls for you to honk. Their faces have changed too I bet. They’ve all got big stupid Buck teeth now, just like their mama. But that’s not what I’m talking about, is it? No, but you know what I mean. Their faces look more…. Perverted now don’t they? Some are making Ahegao faces, others are just leering, watching you fuck and molest their furry friends with obvious glee. They’ve gotten bigger, haven’t they? You’re not the only one living on a diet of your cum. With how much they’ve absorbed they’ve been getting fat, getting little teddy beer bellies, big bunny titties, phat fox phannies! They just look so weird and freakish now, not like cute little stuffies at all huh? That’s because they’re sex toys, you in all your cartoonish perversion turned them into sex toys. Each of them is strapped with a colorful rubber clowny cock, or a slick greasy pussy. Lately your idea of playing with your stuffies has been riding a thick plastic bunny cock with your ass pussy, farting on him with every drop, while you plunge a slutty little piggy doll down on your weiner. It’s perfect for you! A gassy hog like Pretzel would have a big gross collection of perverted sex plushies wouldn’t she? Maybe the cute trans girl she used to be, whatever her name was would have cute sweet little stuffies, but not our Pretzel!
I bet your pot is sooooo cute! Why are you so perfect? I didn’t even think that you’d be blowing up too, how cute! Deep belly button? Fun to tongue? What’s it taste like? Can I bury my nose in it and just get lost in the smell?
And silly Pretzel your Buck teeth always had a purpose! They made sure that no one took you seriously, or thought of you as a real person! But the can opener trick is cute too!
Mani pedi you go girl! Treat yourself! I love that you have both our colors it’s like we’re married! 🥹 plus anyone who sees my colors in your yummy clown fleet will know instantly who you belong to! 👸 I think all my loyal clowny subjects should do the same and give praise to Pretzel for allowing them to show their devotion to me!
I don’t know how you were able to sit through an entire pedicure without without just losing your mind! I’m just imagining these poor Asian ladies trying to paint your big clowny toe tails while you’re sitting there in the chair chuckling your head off while your big girl cock is flinging strings of mayoie cum everywhere.
Even if you were able to keep yourself in control I don’t know how they managed to stop themselves from putting those delicious salty pretzel bites you call toes into their mouth. Mmm just being so close to that warm bready smell must have been soooooooooo tempting for them! Hoooooonk!
BUT NONE OF THAT MATTERS!
Because!
AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!
HOT TOE CLEAVAGE!
As in:
As in
I got you girl don’t even sweat it!
I don’t even know why she needs a therapist, but I know becoming a fart sniffing clown is the treatment! Hyuck! Trust me guys! I got the degree!
Studies show becoming Pretzel’s devoted clown slave significantly increase a person’s happiness!
Gosh, I just don’t know how I’m going to stop myself from fucking her the moment she comes into my office! I mean you’ve just been teasing me and bragging about those hot pictures you have of her I feel like when i finally see them I’ll go nuts! I mean her toes, they pretty much single handily perverted you! I won’t stand a chance! 😱 Hehehehe!
What kind of girlie should we make for Pretzel guys?!?! Definitely going to give her a big pink beehive hairdo and her hair will become cotton candy! Then she could man your pervy little snack stand with you!
Do you want her fat, or do you want to do that yourself? ;)
Should she keep her pussy, or grow a peepee? If so how big?!??
Should she be slobby like you, or do you want a cute little sugary bimbo who puts up with all your nastiness because you’re soooooooooo cute?!???
Hehe okay, I’m masturbating way too hard to all of this! Just so excited to give Pretzel the girl of her dreams! Hehehe!

Jeff Hilson Surreal-Absurd
“Is there anything more beautifully absurd than Kenneth Koch’s tiny play about the island of Madagascar breaking away from the African continent, or Hannah Weiner’s code of signals Romeo and Juliet? I’m currently writing a series of very short plays about fungi, as well as making a record of all the dreams I’ve been having since lockdown about British poets.”—Jeff Hilson

Jennifer Weiner strikes again in her latest novel, The Summer Place. If you’re looking for a heartwarming family drama to add to your summer reading list, you won’t want to miss this one.
The novel centers around the Danhauser family as they prepare for their twenty-two year old daughter Ruby’s wedding at their beach house in Cape Cod. However, as with any family, there are a multitude of underlying tensions and secrets that threaten to unravel the event.
Weiner expertly weaves together the perspectives of each family member, giving readers a glimpse into their individual struggles and desires. There’s Sarah, Ruby’s stepmother, who is grappling with the return of a past love interest and her husband Eli’s unexplained distance; Sam, Sarah’s twin brother, who is still healing from a devastating loss; Eli, who must confront the consequences of a past mistake; and Veronica, Sarah’s mother, who is coming to terms with unexpected news from her sister.
As the wedding approaches, tensions and misunderstandings come to a head, with each character forced to confront their own issues and secrets. It’s a realistic portrayal of the messy and complex dynamics that can exist within a family, while also emphasizing the power of forgiveness and love.
Weiner’s writing is as sharp and witty as ever, with moments of tenderness and humor sprinkled throughout. Her descriptions of the Cape and its surrounding beaches make you want to pack up and head there for the summer.
The Summer Place is a perfect choice for fans of Elin Hilderbrand and Kristin Hannah. It’s a perfect beach read, filled with family drama, romance, and redemption. Weiner does an excellent job of humanizing her characters, making them relatable and endearing, despite their flaws and mistakes.
Overall, The Summer Place is an excellent addition to Weiner’s extensive bibliography. Whether you’re looking for a light summer read or a heartwarming family drama, this novel will not disappoint.
