Hey! Hope you're doing fine.

I have been looking into character theme songs provided by gege and I have been successful to find translation of most of them but Megumi's theme song 白日夢 by 宇宙人×asa-chang＆巡礼×押見修造 english translation is not available anywhere and translating it with google doesn't work properly. Can you please translate it, I really want to know the meaning of that song. Thankyou!

haseyama: So we've finally reached the Demon King's castle huh... You call this place a castle? It's just the store isn't it?

strongest sorcerer (lico): The store?

haseyama: Never mind. So, where's the Demon King?

strongest sorcerer: Who knows. He's probably chilling in a large room somewhere right?

warrior (kokuyou): Let's try that room. I'm sensing something is in there.

-starless restaurant area-

warrior: Hm? Is that a treasure chest over there?

haseyama: A chest in the Demon King's castle you say? Allow me to open it... Oh? What's this? Gold?

strongest sorcerer: Ooh, I knew loot from this castle would be good. That's a gold pendant...

-kokuyou runs in front of them-

warrior: —Get down, quick!!

haseyama: Woah!?

-zakuro attacks kokuyou-

??? (zakuro): My oh my, I did not calculate that you would be able to predict my attack. The Hero party's strength is no lie.

haseyama: Who are you?

-taiga appears-

poison fang of the north (taiga): That's my automaton. It's being controlled by my puppeteer magic. Sorry for ruining your fun after you just arrived, but you'll be becoming my creation’s prey.

strongest sorcerer: It's a doll? Is that why it's moving in such a creepily unnatural way?

??? (zakuro): My my, there is no need to address me in such a rude manner.

poison fang of the north: Just ignore them. Now go, HAK=T=M! Defeat the Hero!

HAK=T=M (zakuro): Indeed, indeed!

-zakuro attacks-

warrior: How annoying, don't get any closer.

-kokuyou fights back-

HAK=T=M: Ough!! I-indeed... indee... indedededede...de...zzzt...

-zakuro shuts down-

haseyama: What's this? It only took one hit to take it out?

poison fang of the north: H-HAK=T=M~!!

warrior: Well then, looks like it's your turn to get punched in the face.

poison fang of the north: Ah, no, I surrender. Please let me join your side.

haseyama: What?

poison fang of the north: I stand no chance in a 3v1. My motto is 'if you can't beat them, join them'. I don't actually care about being one of the Demon King's great leaders or whatever.

strongest sorcerer: Wow, this guy really just threw his weapon down without hesitation. Does he have no pride?

poison fang of the north: Anyways, that warrior you've got on your team is real strong. I respect his ability. Is it ok if I refer to you as 'big bro'? I want to work for you.

warrior: Sure thing.

poison fang of the north: Thanks! Here, I'll cast some buffing spells on you.

warrior: Do whatever you want.

poison fang of the north: —No, by God Keep rolling Feel it in my bones...

strongest sorcerer: Huh? That spell... Watch out!!

haseyama: ...!? What do you mean!?

poison fang of the north: —No exit!

-spell is cast-

warrior: ...!?

-room explodes-

strongest sorcerer: Shit that was close, he used explosion magic. If I'd been caught up in that I'd be dead! I'm done with this dangerous mission, I'm leaving!

-cut back to restaurant area, place is destroyed-

warrior: ...Fuck that hurt. That wasn't a buff, you asshole.

poison fang of the north: What!? You're alive...? How is that possible!?

warrior: Kuku, you wanted to call me big bro right? Well as your big brother how about I correct that rebellious behaviour of yours? Come with me.

poison fang of the north: Ky-kyaahhh!? Where do you plan on taking me...!?

haseyama: ...So they all ditched me in the final stretch huh? Those damn brats! Well, it can't be helped I guess... I'll just have to do something about this myself. Hah, reminds me of when I was a kid. I'd rush into raids all on my own...

-haseyama's office-

haseyama: Come on out, Demon King! Where are you at? Show yourself already!

-takami appears-

??? (takami): Welcome, Hero. So you've made it this far.

haseyama: Hah, you're the Demon King then? I see, I'm gonna wipe that smug smile off your face.

??? (unei): W-wait! He's not the Demon King, I am!!

haseyama: ...What!? You? Aren't you just Unei!?

??? (unei): (clears throat) Indeed... I am the one who soars in the sky decorated with white stars, the king of everlasting darkness who reigns over the demon world from my throne— It is I, The Demon King of the White Star Realm! The strongest, most fearsome Demon King who rules over this land!

haseyama: That's one lame name you've given yourself.

demon king (unei): Come, Hawklook, destroy the Hero!

hawklook (takami): Yes, my lord.

saki: Wait, p-please stop this!

haseyama: So the princess really was you after all, young lady.

demon king: It is fine, princess. I shall defeat the Hero, so watch closely.

saki: (Nothing about this is fine though...)

hawklook: Let us fight. I'll make you bow before the Demon King, dear Hero.

haseyama: Uwah!? He's so fast!

mob class demon: Allow me to help you, Hawklook-sama~! There's no way the Hero can win against our numbers~!

haseyama: Huh!? I have to deal with those weak ass mobs too?

hawklook: Is this really the time to take your eyes off me?

haseyama: Guh... Ah, shut up!

mob class demon: The Hero is backed into a corner! We're sure to win at this rate~!

demon king: Kukuku... I wouldn't count the Hero out yet. You agree, don't you princess?

saki: Um... Could you stop fighting now...?

demon king: Of course not, its almost time for my debut! Watch me, princess! It's showtime!

haseyama: ...!?

demon king: 'White Wish'... Assemble the darkness, Starry Love!

king (kei): Hah, how unsightly.

haseyama: You...! Kei you damn... Wait no, you were that unreasonable king right?

king: So in the end this is how much a man like you could achieve. You were truly nothing but a disgraceful man who was only a hero in name.

haseyama: Excuse me!?

king: Even though it was faint, I was a fool for expecting anything great from you. Giving you that legendary sword was a grave mistake. There was no way you could've become a hero.

haseyama: You're the asshole who summoned me here in the first place! Quit talking crap and just return me to my world already!

king: Oh? So you still have the strength to snap back at me? In that case, stand back up, Hero. Use the true power of that blade, the 'Stein Schwartz'... Show them the skill of legend—

haseyama: What...!?

-haseyama's office-

hawklook: What would you like me to do, Demon King-sama? Shall I finish him off with a stab to the heart?

demon king: Uhh, I don't think we need to go that far... While he's still unconscious let's just dump him outside the castle...

saki: Um, so the fighting is done now?

haseyama: ...Ah... Damn it...

mob class demon: Oh, Demon King-sama, the Hero seems to have awoken.

demon king: What? Then whack him unconscious again—!

haseyama: Tch, I just have to win huh?

hawklook: Oh my, you can still stand?

saki: Hm? How was what...?

unei: Whaat, did you not even read it? I'm talking about the novel I wrote about myself being a hero!

saki: Oh.

saki: (That's right, I vaguely remember I had been reading a fantasy novel that Unei-san wrote.)

unei: Was it no good...? I tried my best at drawing the map of the world as well...

saki: Ah, no, I didn't mean to imply that. I thought it was a very interesting novel.

unei: Really? I'm so glad, thank you! I thought the same when I tried designing those outfits, but creating something yourself is really fun. Since I ended up writing so much I'm going to publish it on a web novel site.

saki: That sounds like a good idea.

unei: I want to keep challenging myself by trying new things. Because I'd be happy if any of those skills end up becoming beneficial for the store!

Finished reading 白昼夢の青写真 on 8/22! This is my 4th completed VN so far and something that I've been eyeing for little while. Honestly, I saw a screenshot of one the sprites and thought the art was really good so I was pretty much sold from there.

Normally, I wouldn't pick something tagged as NSFW, and I ended up skipping all of them because there's a lot of filler text iykwim. Kinda goes against my personal rule of reading everything top to bottom and mining everything I don't know. This is one aspect of visual novels that doesn’t appeal to me and has in fact prevented me from reading them until I realized that not all of them were eroge and that there were actually good SFW reading material available. That said and at this point in time, these are words I'm not particularly interested in learning, but if I ever change my mind I'm positive a 春樹村上 novel would do the trick with less of the visuals and more of just words. Easier to rinse your eyes after that even though admittedly Norwegian Wood was kinda freaky as well.

READING STATS

Case 1: 12.65H; Case 2: 10.63H; Case 3: 7.58H; Case 0 17.69H; Epilogue 1.3H. Total 49.85H

I know I've been saying that I'd like to try to read VNs with the voices turned low, but I quickly realized that half of the fun and personality of the characters was rooted in the voice acting for this particular story. That said, I felt like I relied on my listening a lot again, especially for the latter parts where there were lots of infodumps. I feel like this was closer to my level of reading, but the voices just boosted my speed despite sometimes skipping some of them.

Ended up reading at an average of 13,262 characters an hour because of this, which both pleases me and makes me worried somehow. I really feel that whatever I achieved with Fata Morgana is the purest representation of my reading speed, because that was completely unvoiced, but at the same time I don't want the level of self doubt I've been feeling to creep in and destroy my confidence. I do want to address mental health and the pressures of language learning in a different post, but I'm still warming up to the idea of it.

Pretty pleased that I was able to read 50k characters multiple times during some routes. It has been awhile since my energy for reading has been this way, and I really do hope I keep finding stories that tickle my fancy like this did. I have a few VNs on my radar spoilers some of them are on the graph, and I’m really hoping that one of them is going to mix it up for me, both in difficulty and plot, to keep me interested in reading more in the coming months.

For the most part, 白昼夢 has been a pretty fun read for me. There were some parts I loved and some I could have done without. It certainly got me thinking which is a great sign of a good read. I’m not sure if the definitive edition of this (SFW with a couple more cases to read) would have been worth the wait, since I don’t know exactly how they would fit in a story that seems well rounded already, but if it’s easy to skip to the new cases, then maybe I’ll pick it up again.

Individual Case Discussion, CGs, and Spoilers

The routes were randomized and I ended up with Case 1-3-2 as my route order, but I’ll be talking about them in numerical order.

Case 1: 波多野凛

Ah yes, another white haired girl named 凛. There’s a theme in my VN picks clearly. I was dreading what was to come from this case from the beginning. It felt a bit unfortunate that I had to start with this one because the MC was a walking red flag, so I was relieved that it changes cases midway through.

I liked that 有島芳 was going through a life crisis that was very realistic. Society has really unfair expectations of people - not everyone can be successful in their first few tries, and deeming them a failure even before they start is especially painful, so I appreciate how the case went about discussing something that people usually brush off in real life until recently.

However, that doesn't mean that any of his choices after that was acceptable though. Seriously, he is a grown adult and he should have known better than to pursue such a relationship with a minor. Not to mention raping his wife, something that also came from really disgusting thoughts towards said minor. Other than that, his bizarre fascination with Rin's dad and his almost suicide because of this obsession was kind of disturbing. Seriously dude, go to marriage counselling and therapy, and stop using schoolgirls as your shield from the world.

I mean, I guess 凛 and the child do not end up alone in the world during the epilogue which still doesn't make everything prior right though. Watanabe is a bro, but also is now an accessory to crime. I’m starting to really appreciate the jail time 切那 got in Island! Relieved that everything that happened was just a dream!

Case 2: オリヴィア・ベリー

I love historical fiction so this was pretty up my alley. An interesting take on Shakespeare's beginnings, although the side characters felt all over the place, like they're kind of just there for the funny bits and to add some sort of depth to the current timeline, but also not really? It hinted on their secret religious gatherings and then kind of dusted it off and never really delved into it more. I would have been more invested in the world building if so, historical accuracies aside.

Love the dynamic between オリヴィア and ウィリアム; it felt like what one would expect from screenplays and the historical fiction romance genre. Also really enjoyed オリヴィア’s character in general, not really caring about the rules at the time and continuing her pursuit as an actress even if it means she has to portray male characters.

That said, this felt like the weakest case, because it involved a lot of writing - something that was already discussed in Case 1 - and for reasons that will make sense in Case 0, it doesn’t really add much to or takes from 世凪’s personality aside from just her being fascinated with Shakespeare.

Case 3 桃ノ内すもも

My favorite case and the best characters! すもも - my sweet cotton candy girl - the sprite of whom I loved the moment I saw her and was what convinced me to read this. She doesn’t really need to do much to be best girl for me, the comedy is golden, and yes, she’s even a tier above 世凪 which surprised me to be honest.すもも's personality reminds me of a friend of mine, so I was pretty sold for the rest of the case.

The banter between the three characters was so fun to read and I was able to read huge portions of the halves without getting bored. I liked that 出雲 had her own character (松風梓姫) to play in these dreams and what a funny character at that, too. 飴井カンナ, too, was a brilliant MC I thought, very direct with what he wants to pursue in life.

They all ended up still being friends and successful in the end, too. Honestly, if the whole VN was just this case I would have been quite happy, but of course it’s better than that.

I think, compared to Case 1, these characters were a better example of how to handle society's pressures - taking the time to explore different avenues without going to the extreme side of things. Unpopular opinion probably because すもも's a gem, but I'm also not ignoring what she did do for カンナ, because although close in age, he was also still a minor iirc, so even though she stopped herself from pursuing something further at the time, it felt almost as bad as it did in Case 1.

Case 0: 世凪

I liked that 世凪’s personality was essentially just すもも with a sprinkling of オリヴィア and 凛. Was so thrilled that her gestures and her memories were the base of all her dreamed up self-insert characters for her and 海斗. Yet another 幼馴染 romance story, yaaaas!

海斗 started as a really likeable kind and smart kid, just wanting to help his mom, but when they grew up he was kind of really selfish I thought? He ignores 世凪's interests for the most part and only took notice when he realized he could use her gift to essentially pursue his goals. Even 世凪's cry for help to stop the procedures didn't really make him do anything about it ‘til the last minute. Oh well, too far in to stop now kind of situation I guess.

Felt crazy that they just agreed to put everyone in what I can only describe as a weird perpetual dream state. Feels like cheating life in itself and also the people who didn't particularly sign up for a life like that. Like, I understand that they were trying to avoid the weird disease going about, but you’d think that they’d consider to ask the opinions of everyone else involved, too.

It was really easy to tell who the antagonist was going to be and between that and the infodumps it kind of droned on for a bit too long for my liking. Not to mention it felt to me like he had one of those stereotypical antagonist tropes - I'm doing this crazy thing to save my wife, but in the process you can't have yours and I regret nothing - not very interesting. Also if I’m not mistaken he essentially said at one point, “Hey to stop my crazy rampage, there's a button that can kill my wife if it so pleases you. Please feel free to make that decision for me and my wife. Thanks!” What a terrible person.

It was also pretty weird how like said antagonist was just there for extra plot I guess. Whether he existed or not, 世凪 still had to become the sacrificial lamb, so what was the point? I mean she's alive, kind of, with everyone else and 海斗 in the strange dream state if I understood it correctly, so things work out I guess.

The end kind of fell flat for me to be honest. The build up was decent, but the execution was a bit bland and disappointing. I don’t know, maybe I’m just terrible at reading infodumps and missed something important, but no one has called me out for it yet so unless someone explains it to me or I end up finding something about the ending, then I’m stuck at thinking that it just ended kind of okay.
