I should've been sleeping before my flight but instead I drew Seb as Antinous :D
Reference + Commentary:
SEB IS MY MODERN DAY ANTINOUS, OKAY!? I WOULD DEIFY HIM IF I COULD!!!
But seriously I spent like an hour obsessing over statues of Antinous just thinking; "holy fuck, he reminds me so much of Seb???"
Big, pretty eyes? Check. Magnificent curls? Check. Beautiful side profile? Check. Etc etc.
I read this description of a statue and was instantly struck with "this is so Seb.":
"The body and face of this sculpture are in idealized youth, with plump cheeks and round face, and his hair is usually unkempt. Antinous's hair has also been described as artificial looking, even wig-like, because of how similar the placement of his hair is across statues. His youthful appearance, large eyes, pouting lips, and layered locks of hair over his forehead are some of the iconography that can be used to identify him"(x)
Also which AU of mine is this hmmm. It can be either the Renaissance Muse AU(x) or the random Roman Caesar Fernando AU(x) I drew it with the latter in mind(bcs its basis is literally just Hadrian and Antinous), but it's fun to imagine the Martian version as well!! Maybe an AU of an AU, where Mark is Pygmalion, and Seb is Galatea 🤭🤭

supreme chancellor/emperor obi-wan on a routine tour of the outer rim systems and he comes across young teenage anakin on the side of the road with his mother during his ceremonial procession through mos eisley.
he sees the boy so clearly and so singularly among the throngs of people, his beauty so astonishing and so completely breath-taking obi-wan’s barely off the chariot before he’s ordered his guards to pick the slave boy out and arrange a meeting with whoever had guardianship of him.
and so it was arranged (more or less decreed) that anakin was to return to coruscant, the cradle of modern civilisation - of knowledge, art, science, and culture - to have a proper education and be taken care of until he came of age properly.
only to be later, eagerly, regarded as the benevolent emperor’s clear and undeniable favourite.
yes, anakin was blessed with unparalleled beauty, and had grown into such a divine young man from angelic teendom, but he also took immediately to his classes. he lapped up knowledge like a sponge, and his mind sharpened - developing an unquenchable interest in the sciences in particular and an impressive wit to match his physical attributes.
desperate he was to prove himself worthy of being plucked from obscurity and an inescapable life of toil and hard labour and struggle.
he easily earned himself a place in the emperor’s court, and later his personal retinue - obi-wan practically worshipping the ground the boy walked on, unable to be without him, taking him everywhere he travelled from one side of the galaxy to the other. showering him in admiration, affection, endless attention, devotion, gifts. everything he had to give.

OOOOOhhhhhh very nice. I've seen some amazing art and concepts for Emperor Anakin, not enough for Emperor Obi-Wan that's for sure. I mean I wrote LT you guys KNOW I love me Obi-Wan as Imperator of the Remulan legions klfasjfkdl but yes an actual Roman AU would be good. I've done a lot of Greek stuff bc that's my persuasion as a Classicist BUT there are some points of Roman history that would be perfect for it and you've identified one for sure

Okay, I actually saw this yesterday (a week ago) on twitter and reminded me of this au I had, so now this is a au post--
Supernatural Living Statue AU:

So, we start off with art restorer Geno. Think the messy-haired, knitted-sweater, glasses-wearing Geno we get occasional glimpses of. Completely unassuming, art nerd Geno who’s recently transferred to a new museum. He’s been tracking down this statue for years. (It had been stored in a small not overly well known establishment for a long time before getting moved) And It’s been waiting in the new museum’s storage needing some TLC and Geno's been hired to work on it.
Geno’s new coworkers don’t know much about him. He’s a little quiet, keeps to himself but is still happy to socialize. He’s a hard worker, which is really what counts the most in a coworker, and he’s obsessed with this statue he’s been hired to work on. He claims he's related to the artists, the artist no one seems to know much about.
Some speculate the statue was a long lost male lover of his relative like Hadrian and Antinous. Geno never confirms or denies how much of the backstory he really knows, just takes another sip from his ever present shake and goes back to work. There are no self-portraits of the artist, but there are many, many drawings and studies of his muse. Lots of soft, smudgy charcoal drawings and precise graphite sketches. The same man with the sharp eyes and straight nose,,,(and big ass.)
Geno often comes into the museum, late at night. A mixture of his access cards, persuasion, and tricks of the light get him anywhere he wants. The idea is that maybe bodies die and move on but souls don’t. All Geno needed to do was attach Sid’s soul to something physical and fill it with his love.
(So, Geno is a vampire.)
The story goes that Geno and Sid (the statue) got split up in the 19th century during the industrial era. Geno is an old-money art collector, benefactor and frequent visitor of the galleries. He has all of his ““ancestor’s”” works, including Sid.
Why didn’t Geno bring Sid back to life right away? Maybe he didn’t know he could yet, maybe he was missing some crucial item, a McGuffin he had to hunt down before he could compels the ceremony that would bring Sid back to life. Or maybe he just realized it wasn’t a great time period to re-awaken your hot gay lover (considering the social climate and all.)
Geno kept Sid in his fancy, ornately decorated mansion, not in the room with the rest of his art collection, but somewhere nice and safe, like the Rose in “Beauty and The Beast” but without all the cobwebs. (Or maybe with the cobwebs, that could be a hot vampire interior decoration trend, I don’t know.)
I’m not totally sure how Geno lost his statue all those years ago. Maybe he got found out and had to flee too quickly to take his work with him. Maybe he got captured by hunters and had to fight his way back out and go into hiding but never forgetting that he’s got to try and find his way back to Sid, his immortal statue love.
I imagine the ritual of bringing Sid back to life simple, but slow and labouring. Just imaging Geno slowly warming up the marble like putty in his hands, like a massage but slow going. Rubbing the marble till it's warm, working Sid’s joints as they slowly start to bend, tracing the veins in the marble as one by one they begin to pulse with life. Soon, when Geno goes on one of his nighttime visits, Sid is already warm when Geno touches his cheek against the smooth stone. He can press his thumbs to Sid’s chest and watch the soft skin dimple easily.
The marble pinks up, maybe Sid’s paler then he used to be but flushed enough to pass as fully human. Some of the pigment in his hair comes back as slowly Geno works his fingers through it. I imagine that’s the last thing to come back, it will never be totally normal, Sid will still have gray and white strands in his hair forever but they suit him.
Their first date centuries is at a McDonald’s, because where else do you go to fully immerse your old ass boyfriend in the current culture. Geno drinks one of his blood shakes and Sid decides to figure out whether he can actually eat or not.
Geno probably gives Sid some kind of telepathic vampire catch up on the last few hundred years.
Of course, they’ve got to re-learn each other. Sid’s immortal, but he’s not a vampire, which was what he wanted. Geno’s commitment to his job is minimal now that he’s got Sid back—and that he may be a suspect in an art heist—He enjoyed his work but there’s just so much time to make up for. He “quits” the next day without any regret and uses special supernatural channels to get Sid a passport so they can go somewhere nice, like Greece. Imagine one of those bleach white houses by the ocean where you can sit on the steps and the waves kiss your toes. They spend a lot of time getting not-very-tan on the beach. Both Sid and Geno are about as pale as the sand and probably stick out like a sore thumb all things considering. But that doesn’t stop Geno from getting some work diving for artifacts in the Mediterranean ocean. Sid is happy to spend his days catching up on world history, and fishing, and lying in the hot sun.
Is Sid actual flesh and blood? I’m not totally sure. Maybe he is and Geno gets his first taste of human blood since the synthetic stuff came out. Sid tastes just as sweet as he did the last time. Geno had felt those veins bloom to life under his hands as he worked on Sid. Now he can smell him when he trails his nose over Sid’s skin, into the dip in his belly button and through the curls of his slat-and -pepper pubes. Wrap his lips around the smooth, hard shape of his cock, the one that he’s stared at in marble and stroked lovingly. It’s like heaven to blow Sid and sense the throb of his femoral artery right beside his ear, Geno’s mouth is so wet he’s dripping for it. Especially when Sid comes and those thighs clamp down around his head and he can feel Sid’s blood rushing just under his skin. He sinks his teeth right into that soft spot on the inside of Sid’s thigh when he’s pliant and boneless from orgasm. It doesn’t take much to get him to come after that first hot rush of blood fills his mouth.
Sid looks more alive than he has in centuries.
And they live happily ever after, the end.

Have you ever considered coming back to your Hadrian/Antinous reincarnation au?? I found it yesterday, and I really like it!!
Thank you so much for reading! Although nothing is impossible, and I do have another half-chapter written that I haven’t published, it’s not super likely in the near future. The planned fic was ten chapters and the amount of research on Les Mis era history/Hadrian and Antonius was a huge time drain. Currently, I’m not as immersed in either era, so it would be even more work. It’s definitely something I look back on fondly and want to finish someday...but I’ve got other projects right now, unfortunately.
