Mingi PM 3 : 07/28/23
Tumblr media
(Mingis first live!)
It was voice only btw
He said that today they had done rehearsal for waterbomb
I think someone said he speaks so cutely cuz his tongue is short and he joked about saying that it wasn't that his tongue was short, it was cuz he tongue is thick. (Tgese are figures of speech btw, his tongue isn't short or thick)
Atiny laughed and he jokingly said that it was hard for him since he was a rapper and it's difficult to do his job. He gave an example of his pronunciation as a kid and how kids used to make fun of him for pronouncing words wrong.
He said that technology had advances since he could do lives like this instead of texting. He said it was more co.fy for him and that he would be stopping by often. He exaggerated this by saying that soon enough we'd be able to put on a VR headset and join his 3D live and be there with him.
He spoke about how when he was younger, his voice was a higher pitch, he said his dream was to be a singer cuz of his high pitch voice and since he didn't have many friends, he'd go to karaoke with his older brother and he would sing, while his brother rapped. That's when he wanted to be a singer but when he hit puberty in middle school/high school, his voice started dropping and then got super deep, so then he considered rapping. He said it was random and that u never know what could happen in life.
Some atinys picked fun at him for sounding like an older man, calling him uncle, he ran with their joke but said "what uncle is 23!"
He was being asked for anime recs but said he hadn't had much time to watch any lately. So he asked us for any recommendations. He said there's this website he uses to watch them but it's not international and it might not be available in many countries. He didn't wanna say the name since free promo so he went to go ask staff but when he came back he said he could say. They also told him not to talk about anime anymore (kq I'm coming for u) he got sad and said that he didn't have anything to talk about anymore. (Kq this might have been my final straw, we ride at dawn)
Someone asked if had drank anything or idk but he said he doesn't drink. Instead of having alcohol, he drink soda with his meals (we stan a healthy man) he said he had eaten gyukatsu with some of the members.
He asked if the others were able to use pop and go live when he was also live (they can btw) he said the app was great and that it was fun and he'll come by often (VERY great uhuh)
He asked about when dramas are aired on TV now and then said "back in my day" and that started more teasing. He tried defending himself but gave up and laughed it off
He said he had to go now but he would be back and then ended the live
(Mingis sense of humor is so funny. I literally giggle and kick my feet when ever he says something.)

Day 13 ACTIVITIES + Goodbye Tokyo!
Today was my second free day and my final day in Tokyo. I had a lot planned, but I decided to go at my own pace and just enjoy the day. Sumo VIP Experience: Let the record show it. I'm 1-0 in sumo. Yes, they probably let me and everyone else win, but still. Count the wins as Shaq would say. This was one of my favorite experiences so far! The two retired sumo wrestlers were very funny and demonstrated the training/rules very well. We got to go into the ring and do training and a 1-on-1! Afterwards there was a Q&A session and a lot of good questions were asked. This was a win! Earthquake Museum: I finally got to "experience" an earthquake and let's just say I think I'll pass on any more earthquakes. I did not realize how much the ground shook in the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake! It was both cool and absolutely frightening at the same time. I have to give massive props to the guide for working with me and my groupmate through a translator and being fair game. The simulators for the earthquake and smoke experience were both fun, and it was also just cool to go a bit outside of the Tokyo bubble and go to the quiet area of Kita City. Everyone was super friendly and it was a fun time. Lunch: I'm going to miss Yuragi. I ate my final bowl of their delicious white curry today and while no tears fell, it was felt. This definitely was my favorite food from Tokyo. Wandering in Ueno: I was SUPPOSED to go to the National Museum of Science and Nature, but nah. I grabbed some coffee and a cinnabon and just chilled, then went and got some sushi. Sushizanmai: After failing to get fatty tuna sushi at Tsukiji Market (I didn't really fail, I just wasn't ready), I knew that I had to bite the bullet at some point. When you're in Idaho, you have a potato. When you're in Japan, you eat sushi. I headed to Sushizanmai, a step above conveyer belt spots and not too expensive. I ordered with the tablet and got to work - two fatty tunas, two salmon, one shrimp, one crab, and some ice cream. Not bad work. My favorite was the fatty tuna. I would've skipped the crab next time. Solid 8/10. Ichiran: It was okay. I guess after you have it once, the luster wears off and you just have a basic bowl of ramen. Maybe it was a location thing, maybe it was the time I went, maybe it's Maybelline. Who knows. I won't revise my rating. And that's a wrap on Tokyo! Congrats to Yuragi for winning best restaurant (I'll do a separate Kyoto ranking). Here's some superlatives: - Best Group Activity: Wagashi/Tea Ceremony & Musashi University - Worst Group Activity: Meiji Shrine & Mt. Takao - Best Day: Day 6 (Rural Trip to Aomori) - Biggest Regrets: Not taking time to enjoy Meiji Shrine, losing to Mt. Takao, not getting sushi at Tsukiji Market. - Biggest Culture Shock: No trash cans or public bathrooms! SUPER CROWDED SUBWAYS!!! I tried a lot of restaurants in Tokyo, as food was one of my priorities for my study abroad. I rated each one out of 10 to see which one would come out on top. The good, the bad, I wanted to try it all. Here's the final rankings for Tokyo! - Yuragi: 10/10 - Big Iowa BBQ: 10/10 - Tokyo American Club: 10/10 - Tonkatsu Hinata: 10/10 - Ginza Grill Cardinal: 10/10 - Cedar Chop House Bar & Grill: 9/10 - Kurauzo: 9/10 - Le Blanc: 9/10 - Ichiran: 9/10 - Oreryu Shio Ramen: 9/10 - 中華キッチン刀削麺 登龍閣: 9/10 - Jan's Curry: 9/10 - Togendai View: 9/10 - Mochizuki Curry: 9/10 - I-Kitchen: 8/10 - McDonald's Lunch/Dinner: 8/10 - Sushizanmai: 8/10 - Ristorante Cavacavallo: 8/10 - Katsushin: 8/10 - Hope-ken Sendagaya HQ: 8/10 - McDonald's Breakfast: 7/10 - Gyukatsu Ichi Ni San: 6/10 - Brisk Stand: 5/10 - Hamburg Steak HIRO: 4/10

Weathering With You
The last Tuesday of our trip in Japan rolled around and it was wet and gloomy. Despite the rain, bleachpanda and I were not deterred, starting the day off strong with a grilled cheese sandwich at the bakery at our hotel, before we set off to Shinjuku's JR station.
Our destination for first half of the day? Ikebukuro! Home to Sunshine City and an aquarium. But it's also where the Mega Pokemon Centre can be found (where I can enjoy some more Pokemon shopping), along with Otome Road, a major shopping and cultural centrer for anime and manga aimed at women (where bleachpanda could try and buy items pertaining to her favourite characters from the visual novels she tends to play).
Now I'm not judging her for her tastes...but, ok, no. You got me. I do judge her for her tastes. And I found it wanting while we were on this trip.
Worse, many of the characters bleachpanda liked weren't exactly current and she found it difficult to find anything. Much like how I could barely find anything in relation to Fire Emblem or Like a Dragon. True, Fire Emblem Engage wasn't as popular as Three Houses but I couldn't even spot a Claude, Dimitri or stray Edelgard anywhere. Even the Persona merchandise was relegated to a small portion of one shelf in Animate.
Least, I had Detective Conan goodies to tide me over.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But no, we started our day in Ikebukuro, weaving our way towards Sunshine City through the light drizzle of rain. Down we went, inside the shopping centre, emerging out near the Sanrio cafe. As I'm always craving a hot chocolate, we stopped to try out some of the food and to take a few photos of the quaint little shop before following the arrows towards the Mega Pokemon Centre in Ikebukuro.
Unlike my first adventure here eight years ago, this time, I knew exactly where I was going. And once we arrived, I couldn't help but flit around the store as I bought souvenirs for friends. I also bought myself a sleeping pachirisu. It's no Eevee, sure, but it was cute and adorable.
It wasn't long before we ventured to the other stores in the Department store, including another Mugiwara (Straw Hat) store while I took another gander at the Disney store there. I even flirted with the idea of checking out the aquarium but we had also promised my two friends from the day before to catch-up at Akihabara. So, it was with a heavy heart that we headed out of Sunshine City and headed to the flagship Animate store. This time, bleachpanda led the way while I followed.
The rain, by then, was beginning to worsen, and by the time we arrived, our umbrellas were soaked. Still, we took the time to check out almost all the floors in the shop - about six, before visiting the nearby K-books for any otome items bleachpanda might fancy. Alas, it was not to be as most of the stores she went to were stocked with doujinshi or dull pin badges of characters she didn't much like or hadn't heard of.
From there, we also checked out the Don Quijote at Ikebukuro (mostly to escape the rain) where I bought myself a new backpack and bleachpanda drowned her sorrows of not finding the otome characters she wanted with other goodies for her friends and family.
By the time we stumbled back out into the rain, it was half past 1. Hungry, I searched for a restaurant nearby but couldn't find anything decent. So, off we trotted to the nearby JR station and took a train to Akihabara. Or, as its more commonly known: Electric Town - a buzzing shopping hub where weebs gather to purchase figurines of their favourite characters from manga, anime and video games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we got off the train, however, the rain only seemed to intensify.
Thankfully, I'd chosen to wear my waterproof hiking shoes, but bleachpanda's feet were soaked.
Still, we pressed on, heading to a gyukatsu restaurant right next to Radio Kaikan, and which proved to be quite novel in how it served its food - which needed to be lightly grilled over a hot plate. By then, I checked in to see if my friends were in the vicinity and if they wanted to catch-up.
Of course, they were right in the store next to us, so into Radio Kaikan bleachpanda and I went, going through all the stores meticulously to see if there might be something we wanted to buy.
Spoilers: there wasn't.
And after my eyes had gone crosswise by seeing the exact same One Piece characters for the umpteenth time, bleachpanda and I headed to the nearby Square Enix cafe to check out the store. Whilst there, I bought a few more items in relation to the more recent games Square-Enix had published, like Octopath Traveler 2 and Bravely Default. And since the cafe also offered takeaway items with free place mats and coasters, bleachpanda and I tried our luck to see what Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth characters we could get.
Turns out, we both ended up getting Turks. I got Rude while bleachpanda got Reno.
Then, it was off to the second Animate store of the day as the rain continued to piss down on everyone.
Honestly, if it hadn't been for the rain, it might have been decent but considering how poor the weather was, I was very tempted to call it a day and return to the warmth of our hotel. Alas, we pressed on. And even weighed down by our shopping bags, we took up my friends offer to have dinner at a ramen restaurant.
Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain, my friend took a wrong turn and we ended up at a Korean restaurant instead. Still, since I'd grown accustomed somewhat to Korean food, it wasn't terrible. And once full, we headed back to Shinjuku.
So ended our third day at Tokyo. It would not be long now before bleachpanda and I would be heading back home to Australia. Oh, how I dreaded the return to reality. And work.
