so Drimo for those of us who do not know what is the Armored Core series about [leaves out convenient soapbox for no reason]
If you asked a room of 100 people nowadays, "do you guys know FromSoftware?", the majority of them would stand up and answer, "oh, yeah! The guys that made Dark Souls, right?" You would hear about people wondering when Bloodborne will be ported to PC, or when it will get a sequel. You would hear lamentation for the lack of Sekiro DLC. You would hear praise and anticipation for Elden Ring DLC.
If you were in 2008 and asked a room of 100 people, "do you guys know FromSoftware?", maybe 4 would stand up and say "Oh, the guys that make Armored Core, right? My cousin had it, it looked ok."
The truth of the matter is, FromSoft was a niche studio before Demon's Souls planted a seed and it grew into the massive tree we know as Dark Souls, and its countless branches lush with beautiful flowers, like Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. It even inspired nearby trees, all beautiful in their own right! Trees like Code Vein, Nioh, and others.
But I'm not here to talk about fucking trees and their god damn branches.
I'm here to talk about the sterile wasteland, the wilderness of fallen angels, where the ocean meets the sand. I'm here to talk about pre-Soulsborne FromSoft, when FromSoftware was an unknown, niche, small video game developer barely hanging on to relevancy. They had games like King's Field. They had games like Shadow Tower. They had games like Armored Core. Hell, all of these games still live on in Soulsborne! Did you know? The notorious Mushroom enemies that punch your entire lifebar out from Dark Souls are originally from 1999's Shadow Tower:
Tumblr media
Iconic boss fight, Seath the Scaleless from Dark Souls? He's originally from King's Field 2!
Tumblr media
The well-loved bald rascal with a penchant for annoying fighting styles and kicking, Patches? Originally from Armored Core! Lucky Patches AKA Patch the Good Luck:
Tumblr media
The Moonlight Greatsword? That's originally from King's Field:
Tumblr media
Knight Commander Dragonslayer Ornstein? The Bloodborne Reiterpallasch? Armored Core originals, baby:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The truth is, Soulsborne is as dear to old school FromSoft fans such as myself as it is because it carries the past of FromSoft, it carries part of all the old games. The old, niche, unknown FromSoft that we fell in love with lives on in this new, successful, popular FromSoft of nowadays, all without selling out. FromSoft's design philosophy and mission statement has always been to make things that are out there, that aren't generic, that have that slab of esotericism to it, that are inspired and raw and difficult and challenging and oh so rewarding. Soulsborne wasn't a surprise hit. Soulsborne exists built on a foundation of trial and error that carries in its DNA years upon years upon years of difficult, niche titles. I've not even mentioned all the Tenchu references that Sekiro has! How the Powderkeg weapons from Bloodborne are mostly Armored Core weapons scaled down to human size, such as the iconic Stake Driver being the mighty Kiku from Armored Core!
Armored Core was the biggest franchise FromSoft had prior to Soulsborne. The biggest. And it wasn't too big, to be honest. A rather niche, unknown game franchise with numerous titles that did just well enough to justify sequels, with strong cult followings, Armored Core is all about that mecha high octane action, right? Well, it's 50% about that mecha high octane action! Your average Armored Core is a high intensity, breakneck fast game full of machine guns, laser swords and huge explosions when you're in the field, but in order to be able to do that, you must construct your machine, your Armored Core, piece by piece. Not just the chest core or the head piece or the arms, we're taking about generator, radiator, targeting system, thrusters, subsystems, all of that! And each given piece has a stat screen that looks like this:
Tumblr media
This is a single laser rifle's stat screen. Every piece has about this many numbers to it. As you can imagine, it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but for those that took the time to understand it? That familiarized themselves with the game well enough to just be able to look at a piece and understand what it did and roughly how well it performed? Oh, this was to die for. The amount of unique builds, of mechs that were your very own, unique creation, catering to your own specific tastes, was basically infinite. You could make your own dream gameplay machine, that operated in exactly the way you wanted it to. 50% of the time, you were in your garage, tinkering, mixing and matching different parts to improve your Armored Core more and more, to make it better, comfier, stronger, cooler.
Do you know what was influential in Dark Souls' success? And I say this with all the love in my heart, as a massive Dark Souls fan: It was simplification. Dark Souls is a different beast in many regards, of course, compared to Armored Core, but what Dark Souls did was simplify the Armored Core formula, in both comparative gameplay execution and building, and focused on other aspects, like making incredibly cool unique enemies, polished combat, great enemy placement, the works. But end of the day, Dark Souls is a simplified Armored Core. You're not boosting around and firing laser weapons in Dark Souls, but the fundamentals are all there: Tempo based fighting, with intensifying speed, lots of numbers to play with in order to optimize your character to your preference and needs, and the flexibility to switch around builds to certain degrees, more so in the mid game and late game. Hell, the ever-present "little plain white number above the enemy that shows you how much damage you did recently" and how Poise works in Dark Souls are both originally Armored Core things. Most every Armored Core veteran that I know, myself included, that played Dark Souls just felt it click naturally after a bit. Because it's an extension of Armored Core (and King's Field/Shadow Tower).
Armored Core, since its inception, has been about being a mercenary in a callous world where companies that are as powerful as countries, plural, wage in economic war with each other. Rarely has there ever been a good guy in Armored Core, it's the pristine FromSoft absolutely horrid and doomed world narrative that they love so much. You can even go into debt! Your rewards at the end of any mission are affected by how much ammo you consumed and how banged up your AC got, you have to foot the bill for repairs and ammo (unless your client specifically states that they'll cover it for you), and if you don't perform too well and end up going into sufficiently big debt? Why, you forcibly get put into the Human-PLUS program to offset your debt, which actually makes your stronger, since it gives you the ability to ignore Total Weight restrictions and gives you infinite energy! At the cost of, you know, your humanity. At that point, you're literally just a corporate drone with more machine than brain in the nogging. It's a fancy Easy Mode toggle, so to speak, that comes with lore. This game is from 1997. Even from back then, they were making stuff like this. The setting of Armored Core is ruthless, cruel, and brutal... And yet, beautiful, the little things, they are there. But I won't tell you about them. You have to find them yourself. The beautiful things only have value if you find them in a horrid world by your own merit.
This is true for Armored Core, and this is true for Dark Souls.
Armored Core, on a personal level, is what I grew up with, what inspired me as a child, the kind of storytelling that gives you a few explicit morsels, and the rest, figure it out yourself. Armored Core is basically what came before Dark Souls. I consider Soulsborne sequels to Armored Core. They are so very alike.
Brutal gameplay, challenging management, ruthless storytelling... It's heaven.
Armored Core is a series of a gaming era long gone. Armored Core is the opposite of "cinematic experience" games. Armored Core is brutal, it wants to test you, it grants you no quarter, but it wants you to succeed. Armored Core wants you to master its management systems and its high speed combat. Armored Core wants you to be a sharper, better you.
Armored Core is a video game series about giant robots blowing each other to bits.
Armored Core is both a test and teacher, and it wants you to win. It wants you to become the you that can beat it.
Armored Core loves you. Armored Core will do all in its power to prevent you from winning. Armored Core knows you can win, which is why it tries so hard.
Armored Core is a good video game.

Hello! I've been wanting to make a request like this for a while now as I've fallen back down the rabbit hole that is Bloodborne + the MonsterAU, and your writing is amazing! I have fallen in love with it! You are free to ignore this crazy request XD
What if during an incident at the base (could be Hunter bullied by recruits simply because Hunter sides more with monsters than with humans) and Hunter looses control, they all discover that Hunter is actually a monster too, though not exactly a natural monster or hybrid like the rest of the guys?
At first the monsters and hybrids of 141, Laswell, Los Vaqueros and KorTac believe Hunter is a werewolf but all of them are somewhat concerned and puzzled as to why they could never tell Hunter was a monster, plus the bestial form Hunter possesses is grotesque in appearance compared to the fantastical appearance of Soap's wolf. While Hunter is flattered to be considered a monster like them, she later explains that she is not a monster as such, but a Scourge Beast: a person infected with a plague that turns her into a beast. Hunter also explains that is never in control while in beast form and advises that if were to ever go in a killing spree, requests to be burned alive 👀.
Here are some references to what Hunter would look like lol:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again feel free to ignore! XD
Plague Cw: blood and gore, bullying, anger issues, cannibalism, mutation, hate, tell me if I missed any.
Soap hadn’t expected you to growl, something so low and guttural —dangerous. The hair on the back of his neck rose high, his body tense as it reacted to your animalistic sound when some men approached you both with smug grins and cockily raised brows to raise hell between him and their pro-human thoughts. And it seemed that those men hadn’t expected you to act so aggressively, so beastly, after seeing you ignore their jeers and degrading words. They flinched back, fearful eyes fleeting from him to you, Soap’s eyes trailed down your shaking figure, hands clenching and unclenching with black claws, they were so sharp that it threatened to cut your hardened palms.
“Fuck off,” you flashed sharp teeth, molars and incisors turned into an amalgamation of werewolf teeth, crooked and much sharper.
Perhaps you weren’t truly a human, at least not fully with how vicious your expression looked like, a wretched image of your softer figure shaking and shuddering, trying to contain a beast that would ravage the frightened men before you. They scurried off when you curtly nodded to your left, shoving past some people that stood and stared at you and back into the base. He followed you closely, ears twitching at your growls and rumbling, teeth grinding together in an ear-piercing screech and heavy puffs of hot air from your nose.
“What was that, Bonnie” Soap coaxed you into your room, frantic and concerned at your sudden shift of demeanour, “Ye okay?”
“Nothing. Nothing, Johnny,” you sighed, shoulders slumping when you sat on your bed, letting out shuddering breaths.
He sat beside you, giving you enough space but keeping a hand on your shoulder, circling your tense muscle.
“ ‘m fine, Johnny, I swear,” you promised, blinking slowly at your retreating claws, “I’ll tell you later, hmm?”
Soap had warned them about your shift, the nagging curiosity that filled all their minds the day they heard from him that you weren’t human, neither monster nor hybrid, but the result of a plague —a sickness. He’d been with you during your shift, letting the others know before he turned too, his body burning away his amassed energy into steam and smoke. His change was strainous and energy-dependent, but yours was downright bloody and gory, your skin bubbling as dark fur grew from your raised spine, blood popping and spewing from every part of your body, staining the ground with dark and sickly and viscous blood.
You were a crooked beast, limbs too bony and spine too sharp, your maw too elongated and teeth too misshaped. You were a feral mixture of beast and werewolf, horrible yet intimidating, something that rang hundreds of bells in his mind. You looked like a starved dog, abdomen caved in and hair course and dry, a terrible creature that ate through the enemy, sinking your teeth into their muscles and fat and devouring everything down in wet gulps and guttural rumbles.
You made quick work of the enemy despite being their medic, striding back with him side to side (you towered over him in your beast form, a shock if he was honest). He wasn’t sure if their silence was from the sheer size of you, looming over everyone with white, beady eyes blinking owlishly at them or from your bloody and matted fur, guts and hair sticking between your teeth. He knew you were monstrous, but it sent a thrill up his spine.
“Was hungry,” he was sure he jolted when you spoke, a deep, deep growl from the back of your bony throat, it was gravelly and raspy, more so than Ghost or Prices, “Clean up when- back.”
He learned that you were a Scourge Beast, sometimes a permanent change and other times a temporary one that left you somewhat conscious. You might’ve been there, but never in complete control of your body, lingering at the back of your mind, a passenger of your hungry and rage-prone body. You warned them that you might go into a famished frenzy, ripping into anything and everything you could get your hands on, and if it were to every happen, they would need to contain you. Be it knocking you out or killing you, you made them swear, but Soap doubted he could do it, he couldn’t and wouldn’t do it despite how much you stress how dangerous you were.
They could be able to stop you without harming you, they’re conscious of both their weakness and strengths, but they knew, if it ever came to it, they will stop and contain you until you’re back to your sense.

You were inspired by Death from puss in boots? Cause when I pictured this au in my head, I imagined if Luigi had a weapon it would a scythe or something (besides the magic rod you’ve shown us). Like he was a green grim reaper.
Yes I was! He was one of the biggest ones. Mainly because I was playing through Super Paper Mario when Puss in Boots The Last Wish came out. It was mainly the whistling that did it, and I was like hrm I can do something with this. Also, I constantly joke about how the Luigi's Mansion games (particularly 2) are like the Bloodborne of the Mario world with one of my friends, but that's a different story (please note that this is very much a joke comparison and not serious at all).
I did want to give very much a grim reaper look with a few of his outfits. As I wanted to utilize the shy guy aesthetic and really emphasize how unsettling they look in some of the outfits. Like he is shy, please stay away from him he has too much paper work and anxiety to deal with you.
For a brief time, I considered a hammer and scythe but I decided not to. But it wasn't matching what I really wanted. I do have a set weapon list for him now depending on the mask he used.
He has two main weapons: He has a morningstar that can become a flail. Where he can fling it forward to send out a giant charge of electricity/strike with lightning (think Belmont's forward tilt in Smash Ultimate). Originally it was going to be the classic hammer, but I wanted to give him a distinct weapon and have Mario stay with the classic hammer.
Tumblr media
His second main weapon is going to be a bow. Specifically, the bow he uses from Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope. Instead of light arrows, it would be more normal arrows that he can electrify. For reference, think of TotK Riju's ability to where when you shoot an enemy with an arrow, lightning/electricity strikes it.
I do plan on having him use his vacuum, but that is more saved for when he is dealing with ghosts/ghost valley.

a while ago there was a blodoborne lore guy who i was like "ugh! this guy doesnt know what hes talking about!" over some statues he argued were depicting people looking up at an unknown astrological event but now i think he is kinda right. after watching the shetani's lair video, which argues pretty convincingly that a meteor severed the "divine realm" from the rest of the world of sekiro.
like, first of all: fromsoft loves to repeat itself. if something has appeared once in a game, its probably appeared prior or will appear again. they love to iterate on a theme over there. they also love to lightly reference japanese cultural knowledge that is lost on my dumb ass. but prior to this, the importance of an external, extraterrestrial force flying in and suddenly up-heaving the balance of the known world had not occurred to me.
in bloodborne, this is explicitly referenced but in the classic fromsoft "saying without REALLY saying it" way: the burial blade and the blade of mercy were forged from meteoric iron. oh my fucking god are you kidding me right now. sorry i just did a google search and realized something else lol. fuck hold on. look i can't find like a plain english wiki page about forging swords with meteoric iron in japan so youll have to take it from this nasa abstract. it was an uncommon practice due to scarcity and i think the swords kind of suck lol. however, the thing about iron from space is that its magnetic, which is how the first "trick weapons" operated: the blade of mercy is two blades magnetized together and the burial blade is just a magnet that flicks loose.
dude what in the hell. i have learned so much useless shit from this game. okay: japan wasnt the only nation to forge with iron meteorites; the indian (esoteric buddhism/shugendo/vajrayana buddism is also a recurring theme, for real) kris is famous not only for it's uncommon snake-y shape (....snakes are also a recurring theme) but the patterning of the metal, called pamor. this unique pattern is achieved by use of meteoric iron during the forging process.

Who are Yahar'gul hunters? (compiled reference and observations on 7 obscure NPCs)
Like the title suggests, I decided to cover whatever could be said or speculated about a group of NPCs in Bloodborne in one post as despite suffering from not having unique names or at least titles (save for Antal), they are distinct enough to have the characters and lore nonetheless in Soulsborne's trademark nonverbal fashion! They are a valid part of overall Bloodborne cast and I've found out they offer plenty to work with!
Some shared observations
Tumblr media
(Description are always taken from Last Protagonist's retranslation document ( x ) to not miss out any nuance)
1) Yahar'gul hunters are Healing Church hunters, rather than Old Hunters (the hunters of Gehrman's type) or Yharnam hunters (simple citizens who, albeit trained by Ludwig, don't count as Healing Church hunters)! Not only five out of seven of them use Healing Church weapons (six out of seven if you count Archibald's weapons as such) and not only School of Mensis is another faction of "nerds" of the Healing Church but also some visual hints can be seen:
Tumblr media
^^^ For example, the metal helmets of Yahar'gul Hunters are the same as what Executioners (enemies) in Hunter's Nightmare are wearing! These Executioners are likewise staff of the Healing Church, or used to be in the times of the past. It is up to interpretation if their caged helmets were to contain those eldrich tentacles and School of Mensis simply took the design to honor their roots (like they honored their Byrgenwerth roots with uniforms), or if those Executioners were given to the Healing Church BY Micolash/Mensis to begin with, or the secret third/fouth/fifth thing! I just think the design implication being here to begin with is interesting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The images of Church Giants are from this ( x ) page in Bloodborne Wiki (that awesome one created all by the same person))
^^^ Healing Church staff also seems to have a knack for ropes tied around (and the Madmen, former Tomb Prospectors, repeated the idea by tying long empty phantasms shells in a similar fashion)! Yahar'gul Hunters are said to use it as both restraint for kidnapping and... yeah, as 'lucky charms'.
2) It is rather interesting that they are, functionally, doing the same as what Snatchers (big Pthumerian guys with a sack) do - kidnap people for School of Mensis! My headcanon is that School of Mensis worked primarily with their hunters as kidnappers, and Snatchers were doing their own thing but simply shared living space with School of Mensis! Moreover, they do not aimlessly kidnap people long after Mensis Scholars "ascended", but need people for their own ritual of attempting to create an Amygdala, which is The One Reborn. It is a long rabbithole, but internal name of Amygdalae is 'evil god' and internal name of The One Reborn is 'failed evil god' ( x ). But alternatively, School of Mensis worked with the hunters and only afterwards was able to get Snatchers to help them! Regardless of interpretation, at least at some point in timeline, Yahar'gul Hunters were School of Mensis' tools for kidnapping.
3) Five out of seven of Yahar'gul hunters are not white. More specifically, one of these hunters (the Hunter's Nightmare one) is distinct, when other four are similar 'type' of model (not sure what to call it) with Henryk. Yeah, from game developing standpoint, devs probably just used Henryk as a base for creating Yahar'gul hunters, and naturally DLC hunter would look unique. But for all we know, it could also be an implication! Like how Heir Rune that Henryk drops is also found in Yahar'gul! At the same time, out of shown covenants of the characters, proportionally Yahar'gul hunters have the biggest amount of not white people. Yharnamites believe foreigners caused the plague of beasts, and Yharnam is very much Slavic: Czechia+Poland inspired, mostly with white people of course. Maybe people who were visibly foreigners had the hardest time whenever bias against foreigners began, and so these hunters had to turn to School of Mensis: a faction that takes in everyone, needing simply people willing to do crimes, and also provides opportunity to hide from the public eye.
Tumblr media
4) Yahar'gul Hunters are the only type of Hunters in the game to use Archibald's weapons!
Tumblr media
Archibald is not necessarily against the normal Healing Church; he is referred to as 変人 (a weirdo), unlike, say, Powder Kegs that are called 異端 (heretics). But, the items associated with him (Tonitrus, Tiny Tonitrus and Spark Hunter Badge) are all found in School of Mensis! One Yahar'gul hunter uses Tonitrus, one other uses Tiny Tonitrus, and Bolt Papers are dropped by one of the Yahar'gul Hunters and Snatchers, and also found on corpses all over School of Mensis! But maybe it was him being fascinated with "magic" of beasts instead of straight up denying all about them, or the fact that bolt harms Kin (who used to be an important deal for Healing Church) that earned him the weird looks. It further feels like Micolash was collecting various rejects by his side, sure that they'd do every mad thing he needed while having no choice, and Yahar'gul Hunters rather joined because of hard situation. Heck, there are two Yahar'gul hunters that defected from School of Mensis!
5) Back to Loran implications, because there are some!
Tumblr media
Remember how Henryk is implied to relate to Loran? Further in cut content as his set used to be called Hunter of Gremia Set (Gremia used to be name for Loran ( x )) This is also the case with Suspicious Beggar, who straight up can turn into a unique beast that comes from Loran and isn't anything spawned by Healing Church's antics. Loran is very desert-inspired, so.. heck, appearance of Yahar'gul Hunters + Archibald exploring Loran electric beasts can also be useful for interpreting this cast of characters. Maybe Archibald specifically searched those with Loran heritage as part of his interest in Darkbeasts and School of Mensis had to comply for like... Archibald being to Micolash what Ludwig is to Laurence. Or maybe people with Loran roots were shunned not by Yharnamites in general, but by Healing Church itself, all over suspicion that they were more subjected for giving into beasthood than everyone else. :/ *insert 'This place is reserved for Whites' meme again*
6) In two out of three cases where you meet these Hunters, they fight as a group in which members also mutually balance each other with their skills. You'll see what I mean when I describe each hunter individually! But yeah, they group by compensating for each other's weak points, as opposed to, say, normie Church hunters that group by 'a cool person and their bodyguard' system (like the girls at Research Hall or Forgotten Madman and his escort for example). Really efficient.
Alright, I think I am done with overall review of the cast, and like I said, I am going to bring up each individually under Keep Reading! I just figured general observations were needed first! Will also be using screenshots of their face data that I recreated in game to have references, face sliders are datamined by Zullie the Witch! (( x ) ( x ) for videos and ( x ) for extremely handy compillation on the same cool Wiki)
The Defectors
I group these characters together as it is easier! They are Antal and a Yahar'gul Hunter that we meet in the Hunter's Nightmare, in Underground Cell! Both of them are using Church Pick, and both are actually against Healing Church by what we can conclude. I've heard that before Zullie datamined these hunters, people used to assume they were the same character 🤔
Antal
Tumblr media
He is the only named Yahar'gul Hunter and is a summon against The One Reborn and Darkbeast Paarl! His weapons are Church Pick and Flamesprayer! He doesn't excell in any stats, nor there is anything remarkable about his build.... and I also used to think he had a tiny mustache because of that shadow just above his lip, but turns out he doesn't have facial hair fhdhfds Let's say he has it shaved or something.. Also, Antal is apparently young, both by feature sliders and actual age picked for him. I assume early balding working under Micolash is normal.. -_-"
With his summon locations, it is up to interpretation whether he is dead (since some summons do raise from the grave to hunt) or simply prefers to work against School of Mensis "from inside", helping the kidnapped if he crosses paths with them, rather than straight up leaving. At the very least, IF he died, he betrayed School of Mensis before his death, as the title suggests! Also according to internal files ( x ), Antal had an unknown occasion to appear in Hunter's Nightmare that was cancelled. It isn't clear whether it was as a hostile NPC or as a summon, but, having it cut is interesting because there IS another Yahar'gul Hunter there in the final game:
Yamamura's boyfriend Yahar'gul Hunter from Nightmare
Tumblr media
OKAY OKAY but hear me out fdhfsdh This is the hunter we find in the Underground Cell in Hunter's Nightmare, where people that learned too much about the Healing Church's secrets are thrown to die!
Tumblr media
It is quite a bold move for someone who worked for School of Mensis of all things to be considered someone that learned too much, right? I think that an intention to betray had to be the factor, then 🤔 Yamamura is a summon not only against Living Failures, but also in Yahar'gul for Darkbeast Paarl and The One Reborn! Summon locations indicate the characters' backstory, so Yamamura once was at Yahar'gul. I think it is a logical conclusion that this hunter had helped him to run away... or maybe was convinced BY Yamamura to consider his life choices and to run? Was Antal helping the two as well but didn't make it out alive, or he chickened out to run with them and did stay as "passive" rebel? What do you guys think?
Well, the potential backstory aside.. This guy has blond hair and blond (shaved) beard and eyebrows, which I like for an interesting design! He is shaved, not bald. His built sliders are quite big, especially arms at 245 and the chest area at maximal 255. Among other NPCs he excells at Strengtht with 45 (third place amongst NPCs shared with Brador and Yamamura) and Skill (second place, shared with Yamamura and Bestial Hunter). He uses Church Pick and Repeating Pistol; both are Church weapons, like Antal! He is also my favorite Yahar'gul NPC because he is totally forming Detective Gang with Yamamura, Gratia and Simon trust me guys my uncle works at Fromsoft fdhfdhshfd xD
But yes, I think if Antal's cut appearance in Hunter's Nightmare is of any indication, developers decided to make two characters instead of one in the end! Good for them!
Cathedral Ward Hunters
They are the two guys that you fight when approaching the 'normal' entrance to Yahar'gul - a chapel where Patches directs you towards! Just the outside guards of the Yahar'gul. If you also follow there with Henriett summoned, she will help fighting them.
CW Hunter with Tonitrus
Tumblr media
He is really frail and old, as you can see. He uses Tonitrus and drops 4 Bolt Papers! I'd say he is the most 'electric' hunter out of everyone we meet, heheh; He is also the only NPC to use Wooden Shield, others who use it as Yharnam Huntsmen enemies!
Tumblr media
As it is not an effective thing against the beasts, he maybe simply chosen it because his purpose is to fight people, not beasts. Maybe he also does originally come from regular citizens, and Tonitrus was simply something he took after starting working for Yahar'gul when normally we'd see him with a pitchfork or alike. Finally, he has one of the lowest Bloodtinge stats amongst all NPCs (9), as third weakest, so maybe using shield instead of a gun was a necessity from his blood being too weak to reliably use for the bullets (which are created from the user's blood!). I favour the latter version particularly and I'll also explain why soon!
CW Hunter with Rifle Spear
Tumblr media
SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER fdjfds
Okay, well, this Yahar'gul Hunter uses generic placeholder data, and this is what it looks like xd So his appearance is entirely up to interpretation. He uses Rifle Spear and Ludwig's Rifle, and drops 10 Quicksilver Bullets! I like the fact that both of his weapons are able to shoot! Furthermore his most excellent stat IS Bloodtinge: 35, that puts him on 6th place amongst NPCs (shared place with Brador and Simon). It is very clear what his specialization is, in contrary to his hunting partner! They're like opposites x)
The three Hunters ambush you in Yahar'gul
I guess anyone who had a Skill Issue (like me т.т) remembers THESE guys. I've found them challenging to kill, but at LEAST they do not respawn. Also, in the area where we fight them a previously accessible Lantern is completely smashed after Rom is defeated and can no longer be used! I think it should have been them who smashed it... Maybe after seeing the Moon turning red, they simply knew what was going to happen? Not sure whether they protect Micolash's secrets even past his disappearance or have their own motivation; like I said, it is also possible that after Mensis Ritual the remaining people in Yahar'gul were doing their own thing!
Beast Claw Yahar'gul Hunter
Tumblr media
Uh... So yeah, he shares all sliders and stats with the Tonitrus Hunter from Cathedral Ward! I personally like to simply take this idea and make them be twins! But even this aside, his sliders make a lot of sense for me!
Amongst Yahar'gul Hunters, he is the only one wearing a variant of Yahar'gul Helmet without the hood. Moreover, it is the only piece of attire he is wearing, otherwise naked (if you don't count underwear lol)! He uses only Beast Claw and drops the Clawmark Rune (also dropped by Gilbert). What I like about simply reusing these stats is that his physical weakness might be either the result of continuously turning to beasthood or, better yet, the reason why he has to turn to beasthood! If him and Tonitrus Hunter are twins, there might be some physical weakness (or even sickness) shared genetically, and both have to compensate for it somehow!
Despite sharing face data, they have different stats, with this hunter having stronger stats in everything. Most of them could simply be because he is a later game NPC that must be stronger, but the one that stands out is Bloodtinge which is significantly bigger compared to Tonitrus Hunter: 38, that puts him in 5th place amongst other NPCs and is a place shared with other two from the same trio. Super sold on the idea that it is also because of beasthood; he'd need to consume a lot of blood to awaken it, so...
Tumblr media
^^^ Interestingly, his weapon yet again is related to the Darkbeasts ('black beast' refers to them in this file)! Although not electric, but it is still fitting to use for someone from Yahar'gul since Paarl is there too!
That rat around the corner Yahar'gul Hunter with the Cane
Tumblr media
I honestly remember this guy much more from how he sneaks up on you from behind when you approach the other two hunters from the trio and also spams Tiny Tonitrus attacks than from him using Threaded Cane (and Flamesprayer).. but Cane is what he is commonly referred to with. Also the second Yahar'gul Hunter, together with Antal, that isn't shaved. His built is average, but he has a very strong, visible stripe of a scar on his left cheek. Also rare case of Yahar'gul person that has eyebrows o_o Unacceptable!!!
There isn't much else to say about him, other than the scar is interesting. Also, this trio of hunters mostly shares the stats, with each of them being weaker than the other two at something, and this hunter's weakest stat is Strengtht (14)! Guess he doesn't need it much, since his weapons are long-distance combat! Or maybe he started being very careful after receiving this scar somehow... Or, maybe, he is the smartest one in the trio (he even drops Madman Knowledge) and the Beastclaw Hunter baiting the Paleblood Hunter while he ambushes from the corner was HIS idea. ...and maybe smashing the Lantern was his idea too? Yes, I like the idea that he is just the smartest amongst them and takes the lead as a strategist, and also the most careful.
Yahar'gul Hunter with the Cannon
Tumblr media
Okay, this NPC I actually never forget for one minute because he has THE most buff buld amongst ALL NPCs! He is the only character that has chest, abdonmen, arms and legs all at 255! What, you guys thought that Alfred had the biggest tiddies? Compared to this Hunter, Alfred is just a pathetic twink!!!!!! Just look at HIS build for comparison:
Tumblr media
(aww he got a belly tho :3 )
But yeah, anyways, this Hunter uses Cannon and Rifle Spear. Very, very powerful shooting force that drops 20 Quicksilver Bullets, and damn, that Cannon is heavy. I am supposed to say "interestingly how both of the weapons he uses are made by Powder Kegs", but....
Tumblr media
..turns out that localization team made a MISTAKE, and for some reason attributed it to Powder Kegs! When even the original Japanese script says かつて医療教会の工房が試作した大型 ('a large gun that was once invented at the 'medical church' workshop'). Sighhh.... it even makes perfect sense because you do not get the ability to buy this weapon by obtaining Powder Keg hunter badge, you just find it! It makes EXTRA sense because there is a weapon CHURCH CANNON, that was remodelled FROM the original Cannon! AAAAAA WHAT WAS THE POINTTTTTTTTT-
Tumblr media
Okay OKAY I am calm now
Yes, all in all, the guy is also very interesting! As an artist I also love that his hair is very dark, almost black, but his eyebrows and beard are brighter brown (darker blond?). I like small details like this! He is also amongst people with THE lowest Arcane stat from all NPCs (8, the last place) and has a very tiny mole on his left side of the nose that is invisible because of the color chosen for it. Awesome.

Yeah, I think I've covered whatever observations and ideas I've had on these guys. I just really wanted to because Bloodborne is still rich with easily-overlooked NPCs even ten years later! And honestly, not giving them the names is what made it so bad in my opinion... Like for example, imagine how easier it'd be to communicate about and ship the two female Hunters at Research Hall had they only been named internally? Someone could argue that Yurie is "loreless" character, but since she has a name it is easy to identify her, and thus pin down lore implications and make a story. @ Fromsoft please stop giving your obscure NPCs enough to work with and then not give any way to instantly tell them apart besides what weapons they use ;-;
In any case, these guys were kinda hard simply because there is many of them, but at this point I can easily distinguish them 🤔 Maybe someone else will find this post useful or interesting!

12, 13, and 17 for Peace on Planet Bloodborne 🐦‍⬛
(Asks from this ( x ) meme)
12) the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I am not sure whether Gratia finally transcended the status of unpopular character after over half a year or not, not from what I've seen? 🤔 But she is a GIANT WOMAN that uses a literal chunk of iron to fight, like, the hugest fucking dumbass woman but one that could punch a wall into a dust fdhdhfd She deserves her place amongst the 'fleshed out' Old Hunters with others! The second known female Old Hunter, too, and with enough references available for fanart at that!
Tumblr media
(From this ( x ) page, by AstralLace)
She is also found in the prison for people who learned too much about the Healing Church's secrets, or at least were a threat for it, and the fact that Simon has her fist equipped ( x ) is so cool?? She possibly was one of the people that were able to see through the charade and intended to make it fall apart, and considering Gehrman and Maria knew about everything, it creates even more interesting potential for the story and link with other characters!
For bonus points, in the game, bright red hair is linked to Cainhurst! Sure, could be just a design decision, but with writing the stories everything can go! (Gratia for queen lol)
13) best blorboficiation
Correct me if this is not as frequient as I've gotten the impression of, but I think making Edgar THE grumpy nerd actually was beneficial for the fandom dhfhsdf It is mostly the impression that can be gotten from how his face looks, but the shitposts potential is infinite! Like, yeah, I kinda detalise his character, but the fact that on simpler level he is one of the core driving comedy tropes appeals to me- because of course it does XD
17) there should be more of this type of fic/art
🤔 I think it would be really good to see more of Cainhurst aesthetic art (primarily clothes-related one) than only Knight sets! They look fantastic, but Cainhurst offers an even bigger variety of sets, like Cainhurst Guardian, both variants of the noble dress (burgundy like Arianna's and grey like Forsaken Castle Ghosts), the armours of the guys in the throne room (also frequently found all over Chalice Dungeons), and also every other gremlin from the portraits that never appeared IN game! King of Cainhurst especially has two whole unused models to work with.
Like, all Bloodborne aesthetics are pretty great, but these gothic vampire noble aesthetic ass people are under-explored! I don't believe Bloodborne attracted people with just werewolves/hunters aesthetic dsfhfdh

Sun and Dusk are consistently referred to as “Goddess”. While being a deity or close to one isn’t that huge of a deal in a digital-fictional universe like this one, it’s still notable. We have many characters who could be argued to be a deity/god of some kind, like Bob or Verie (I only mention Verie because Icia considered calling her one) or Nightmare (she was enough of one to qualify for the Pythagorean Theorem achievement) or even Jessy post-ascension.
But only Dusk and Sun are OUTRIGHT called Goddess. So that gives them some implied powers and default authority. And yet, despite being given the same title, they act and are treated very differently by both the narrative and the characters in the narrative.
Why?
Because they’re two completely different kinds of Goddess.
Sun is a classical Goddess. Think of the Greco-Roman pantheon. As any fellow Percy Jackson fan can attest, the Greco-Roman gods and goddesses were very human, even too human. They were flawed as humans are flawed, and were not treated as perfect. Sun would be considered more amicable and personal than most Classical Pantheon members, seeing as she doesn’t smite people on a dime. Thus, the narrative and characters treat Sun as one of them, as a flawed, human goddess. As a reflection of the best and worst a human is capable. When given this kind of power and this kind of responsibility, Sun reacts how a human would react. Sun is loving and personal and human, but that comes at a steep cost, because no human was meant to bear the burden of a goddess. The consequences of Sun’s actions, spreading from the infinite human potential for harm, carry even more weight than a normal human’s.
Now look at Dusk.
I’ll be honest, she is just as flawed as Sun is. She has just as many shortcomings, just as many fatal mistakes. But the narrative and characters treat her very differently. At first it was just because I put effort into using specific titles, language, and rhetoric in reference to Dusk. But over time people have done that independent of me. Dusk is a Lovecraftian, modern goddess. She is deliberately written to be at least partially beyond the comprehension of the average character. She breaks the fourth wall and can function as a minor mod if need be. She’s an Eldritch goddess, and she acts like it. She’s a Bloodborne goddess, and her dominion specifically being emotion is a very key element of this part of her character. She has control over a major element of everyday life here, and the level of insanity and emotional turmoil these guys go through only goes to amplify how much sheer power the ability to control and manipulate emotions has here. But consider this. If it weren’t for her status as “Agape”, she would probably be very impersonal and ethereal, the kind of detached, distant goddess who cares not for mortal minds or lives. She is as personal as Sun, able to love and live like anyone else, just with a lot more power at her disposal when she needs it, just like sun.
Both are personal, but Sun is personal by default. Her title as “Goddess” intrinsically has that built it. Dusk doesn’t. Dusk’s title as “Goddess” belongs to those who must become impersonal and incomprehensible to deal with their knowledge and responsibilities. Thankfully, Dusk has that personal nature built in as a function of being DUSK, not being a “Goddess”. The narrative, though, understands the difference between the two seemingly similar titles, and it shows in descriptions and such, even if the titles and power levels are equally matched.
Funnily enough, they treat themselves as if they had the opposite titles. Sun throws around her power and perceived deityhood consistently and deliberately, placing herself in positions of authority. Dusk does not often “throw around” her power, instead showing it mostly in her appearance. She also deliberately makes herself equals with those she cares about, like shrinking herself down to Jessy’s size when they have an important conversation.
This is somewhat reflected in the people and dynamics they surround themselves with. Sun’s family is made of spouse and children, with her as head of a family with many under her. Dusk’s “family” is made of spouse and siblings, of many by her side. Both of the units function, and generally adhere to the titles and function of their roles. Sun disowns bob, and it has actual meaning, for example.
…Idk, there’s your rant.
DING DING DING DING DING DING DINGGGG
CORRECT!!!
this analysis is AMAZING elsie lemme tell you why
"As a reflection of the best and worst a human is capable. When given this kind of power and this kind of responsibility, Sun reacts how a human would react. Sun is loving and personal and human, but that comes at a steep cost, because no human was meant to bear the burden of a goddess. The consequences of Sun’s actions, spreading from the infinite human potential for harm, carry even more weight than a normal human’s."

◢【Vɪᴄᴛᴏʀʏ Pᴏʟɪᴛɪᴄs】
Tumblr media
The Blood Kingdom was once known as the Blood Empire. Most of the former kings used to wield their power for selfish purposes delivering suffering and pain wherever they went. Although, all those years of war were the bases of the current kingdom in many ways such as culture, economy, religion, society. And here, we are going to talk about one of the pillars of this kingdom.
— Vlad Bloodborne, the third supreme king. For many people, a lunatic, but despite the fact, genius. He was aware of the dangers of a monarchy; he realized that a king would need a close support of power. He stablished a hierarchy composed of five people who would represent what he called “The Victory Conditions” of a war: Leadership, Blood, War, Death and Love. These five people would be the supreme king and his four dukes and the hierarchy itself is what we call The Victory Politics
You already know the current supreme king, so we are going to tell you more about the former one and the current dukes.
═══════════════•°✝°•═══════════════
Tumblr media
◢Name: Vlad Bloodborne.
◢Occupation: Former Supreme King of the Blood Empire.
◢Function: The king has to manage every aspect of the kingdom and watch over its prosperity.
◢State: Died at the age of about 5500.
◢Sexuality: Bisexual
◢Fun fact: Unlike the other members of the family, who love classical music; Vlad here loves pop music, and if the singer is a girl much better, the more feminine the song the more he will love to sing it.
◢Footer comments:
Sander: I was talking with Drya about this guy and we came to a realization, the best word to describe him is “lunatic”, I am sure you’ve read it referring to him throughout the blog and it’s because that is the best word, no crazy or insane or mad, lunatic.
Drya: I have already made a little comment about him before but... I kinda don't recommend you to meet him...? (Hopefully he is dead, still available for questions though...) Like if you have boundaries and such, please don't, trust me. For your own safety put yourself in a bunker 7 feet under ground—— you know what? Forget it, it won't be enough, he will chase you and you'll be part of his daily entertainment. You won't escape that honestly... At least you are dead already :v
═══════════════•°✝°•═══════════════
Tumblr media
◢Name: Dark Kruger.
◢Occupation: Duke of War.
◢Function: This duke’s duty is to be the general of the kingdom’s military forces, manage the tactics, troops, training, weapons, security, etc.
◢State: Alive (and single).
◢Sexuality: Gay (A-LOT).
◢Fun fact: Dark doesn’t like luxury, despite being one of the five most important people in the kingdom he still wears the same uniform and armor each soldier has to wear. He has a mansion but it looks almost empty.
◢Footer comments:
Sander: … I am so sorry I can’t stop looking at his butt *make me yours, daddy*
Drya: Tell me why you have to be gay TnT
═══════════════•°✝°•═══════════════
Tumblr media
◢Name: Lilith (just that, she’s an orphan)
◢Occupation: Duchess of Love.
◢Function: Her function is a little ambiguous, she has to watch over the happiness and well-being of the citizens. She manages things like the entertainment, jewelry, she even has her own clothing company, The Bleeding Fang. But also, she is in charge of the Spies’ division.
◢State: Alive (also single).
◢Sexuality: It’s not simple. She thinks she’s asexual because she doesn’t feel attracted to anyone and she has never felt, also, her sexual experiences have been…terrifying. However, that doesn’t mean she is asexual, she hasn’t met the right person yet, and it could be either a man or a woman.
◢Fun fact: She loves to use lingerie in public, she loves to feel her skin exposed because she REALLY loves her body and she’s proud it.
◢Footer comments:
Sander: About the fun fact, Hell told her: “I’ll allow it as long as you do not show your nipples or something else” XD. She is like Hell older sister. Also, all the clothes she sells and wears are designed by herself.
Drya: Honestly if you find your way into the Blood Kingdom without protection, you better find her in your path. She is the most lovely person you will ever meet.
═══════════════•°✝°•═══════════════
Tumblr media
◢Name: Killian Sulius.
◢Occupation: The Duke of Blood.
◢Function: His main function is to ensure the food in the kingdom, he’s on charge of all the restaurants, laboratories and the salves system. But also, he manages the paperwork of the kingdom.
◢State: Alive (single, do not date him though, trust me).
◢Sexuality: Bisexual.
◢Fun fact: He has a strange concept of relationship. He doesn’t like vampires, he loves to “date” other species because he likes being in charge, he would literally make the other person a slave.
◢Footer comments:
Sander: He is a mf. Nothing more to say your Honor.
Drya: As he said, don't date him, trust him.
═══════════════•°✝°•═══════════════
Tumblr media
◢Name: Nost Darkweb.
◢Occupation: The Duke of Death.
◢Function: You know all those abandoned and haunted places? Those were stupid people go to “explore them” in the middle of the night? Well, Nost and his Hunting Division are probably there waiting for those stupid people to step in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think the Hunting Division’s name speaks for itself.
◢State: Alive…? Doesn’t look like it.
◢Sexuality: Straight.
◢Fun fact: He is the one that raised Hell on Vlad’s orders. He became a parental figure for our beloved king.
◢Footer comments:
Sander: This poor man has lived an awful life…I would love to tell you but it is more fun if you get to know him. I am trying to explore these different dukes in the several AUs of the blog. He is being explored in the verse called “Special” (hey there Nunnally :D)
Drya: He might be scary, undead-like, but trust me when I said that all he needs is a reminder of what's the meaning of love. Still, it will be though to convince him :^

Lankie's Bloodborne Boss Ranking Bonanza! (Part 2/3)
This is part 2 of my Bloodborne boss ranking! You can find Part 1 here
Spoilers for Bloodborne ahead!
Tumblr media
Here's a fun challenge : try and draw The One Reborn with no references. Because hooo boy is this meat centaur a mess.
The fight starts with a bunch of bell ringing ladies on the balconies. Hilariously, I don't know what the bell ladies do if you leave them alive, since I killed them first thing every time.
You'd think this guy would be a flailing mess but it seems he mostly just summons a bunch of loose limbs over you. The only thing that gave me trouble was his big throw up attack which covers the whole floor of the arena.
I ended up killing him in two attempts, he looks intimidating but he's basically a very gross paper tiger.
Tumblr media
Oh Amygdala, have pity on the poor bastard!
Turns out, ol' Amy took Patches advice at heart, because I beat them on my first try.
Which is surprising because Amygdala is pretty intimidating! What with the lasers and the prodigious size and the ripping its own arms off to beat you to death. But yeah I don't know what to tell you, I pressed O when I needed to dodge, I hit r1 a bunch of times and they just kinda died.
I do like that after killing Rom it's revealed that there's tons of Amygdala's (Amygdalae?) just chilling all over Yharnam, very creepy.
Tumblr media
Ah Kos, or some say Kosm!
Boy howdy there's a lot of gimmick fights in Bloodborne. The Host of The Nightmare will just constantly run away from you until you corner him in a room, then he shoots a bunch of tentacles at you.
I'm making it sound easy but I ended up dying to this bastard 4 times! The tentacles hits hard and he's got his little puppet buddies backing him up in fights.
The best part of the fight is Micolash's running commentary on Kos and granting eyes. He really sells the whole raving madman vibe he's got going.
Tumblr media
What does it say about me that I died multiple times to Micolash but beat Mergo's Wet Nurse on my first attempt? I don't know! But What I do know is that Mergo's Wet Nurse is awesome.
Look at this cool ass design! Six armed black angel with scythes? Rad as hell! Sounds like an OC I'd have when I was 13! I love that its head looks like a big slug thing but it's actually just an empty cloak. I love that this horrible thing is a 'wet nurse'. I love that the music playing in this fight is just a kids music box. Great vibes all around!
The fight is pretty easy unfortunately, the wind ups are really telegraphed and it's too easy to just get behind her when she starts flailing her scythes. You gotta be on the ball when she starts summoning her clones to attack you (reminds of the High Priestess fight in Sekiro) but there was never a time when I felt threatened in this fight.
But despite all that I'm still giving MWN an A just for the great design. Let it be known that I'll bump any character's score up if you attach some angel wings to the mix.
Tumblr media
Does anyone care about this boss?
It's another gimmick boss where there's a bunch of these dumb aliens and you gotta find the REAL Celestial Emissary. At which point it triples in size.
I do like when these guys have the weird tendrils coming of their heads, that's pretty creepy. But they honestly didn't have to put this boss in the game. The next boss is only one corridor and a elevator ride away!
Side note: Upper Cathedral Ward, the place you find this and the next boss, fucking suuuuUUUUuuuucks. Brain eater enemies everywhere, the part where it just ganks you with 3 werewolves, if the little slug things nibble you once it fills up a full frenzy bar. Just absolutely awful.
Tumblr media
The Daughter of The Cosmos has a very neat design, very creepy and alien. I was expecting this fight to be pretty tough but it was honestly not too bad, think I beat in 3 attempts.
I like that there's a thing that looks like Rom's corpse in the arena, I think the implication is that Ebrietas is an adult form of whatever Rom is. That's neat!
Another thing that I like about all the more alien designs in Bloodborne is that they all have some slightly human qualities to them, like Ebrietas' slug body looking like a humans kneeling legs. It adds to the creepiness of the monsters, like was this thing human? Is it mimicking humanity? Maybe they're not so different to us??? SPOOKY??????
Ebrietas gets a - solely because of Upper Cathedral Ward. Because fuck Upper Cathedral Ward.
Tumblr media
Logarius, in my opinion, is the toughest boss in the base game. He's got projectiles, he's aggressive in his 2nd form, he's got his whole gimmick of planting his sword in the ground to summons constant ghost swords that chase you. He's a dozy!
However the main thing that makes him tough, and the thing that pops a minus on his score, is his tendency to jump straight up into the air and goomba stomp you to death! The camera doesn't track him when he does this, so you just have to guess when he's gonna land. Sometimes he'll do it multiple times in a row. I'm really not a fan of this attack because it feels like Logarius is taking advantage of the bad camera to land hits on me.
Also the run back for Logarius is not a good time. Two ladders!? What am I made of time!?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This ends part 2, in the next part, we'll take a brief jaunt into DLC town and rank the final 2 bosses!
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3

Did you know there was a guy dressed like Mohg in the cut content of bloodborne? It was in a data mining video for the game, I forget which one unfortunately. Anyways I've joked that Mohg auditioned to be in Bloodborne and got in but his part was cut. The casting director liked him so much that he was called back for Elden Ring, and he brought his brother along to be his co-star.
Tbh that wouldn't surprise me at all, and I believe I do remember it now that I cast my mind back a bit, though iirc the model looked very unfinished so it was likely cut early in development. Mohg, however, is so Bloodborne-themed that he almost doesn't fit in Elden Ring at all, so I can totally see him being a beta form of Laurence or some other Healing Church member that ended up transplanted into Elden Ring as an Easter egg reference (that sadly got kind of bungled up by GRRM's...interesting characterizations, which don't mesh well with the theme of BB at all outside of a criticism of the Catholic church)

the event was quite good, actually! [in reference to the previous production from previous ramblings]
went in, calico critter & [hue] tie, giddy. bought a ticket & some snacks. walked around to find seating, saw a guy i talk to briefly. he was alone, this time around; usual friend not available. we talked a bit mildly, me asking what he was doing there— supporting a friend, he said. i was too. i asked if i could sit with him.. an amazing idea, changed the whole course of the night. one seat left in the middle at first, purely because i don’t wish to be discomforting & also to test how i felt. discussed dark souls & elden ring, asked me what i liked. floundered. said i liked writing & sea creatures & books; i mean, yeah, thats what i like. older brother of a girl i went to religious classes with. quiet during the first act, occasional laugh or so from him. interesting character. i could catch him staring at me once in awhile in the corner of my eye; found it quite sweet.
the production in itself was way better than i anticipated, knew many of the cast. most, actually. girl who played the main character [ariel, as this was a little mermaid play..] was astonishing in her singing ability; immensely proud of her. radiant. set design was nice— at one point a shelf fell over, though. loved the costume design for ursula— dress sleeves had strings connected to some of the bottom octopus legs on the dress, to make them moved as she moved! genuinely incredible.. i loved the costumes deeply, even if some were a bit rough around the edges. always love aquatic themes..
the intermission was comprised of more video game talk, mix of bloodborne & dark souls 2. its funny, he treated me as if i knew everything he was talking about… which, although i knew a good chunk, i didn’t know everything. it was a nice change of pace, though— better than being assumed i know absolutely nothing. its like.. a little bit of respect, in a way. i don’t know, it just felt nice to talk with someone and not feel like i was being talked down to. moved to different seats, away from the constant chatter behind us both during the first act. no seat between this time around.. i wasnt nervous about it— i felt comfortable. made a few jokes once or twice during the second act, but mere whispers and only once in awhile. he laughed at.. a lot of them, surprisingly, which made me happy..
when we departed, i couldn’t find where he went. i believe he simply left first. he was nice… had, uhm, like…. doe eyes… like a deer, but not naïve like a deer… he also had braces… he looked nice.. i really do hope to converse with him again, maybe strike up a philosophical discussion. i am fond of his existence.
you know, three/four of the actors were fond of chiquitito… i found this cute. i let the ursula actor hold him, his fur faded compared to his sister. he is dear to me, and i made sure to adjust him and wiffle to be able to experience the show in a mere hypothetical they have sentience & sapience…
im not used to such events. i am glad i got to sit with someone, glad to be there. my friend was ecstatic to see i actually came… why wouldn’t i? you’re my friend, silly! what i wanted to say, anyway.
ah, i could talk much more about the play, but.. i am getting quite drowsy. might be off to slumber.. i have lost any and all paranoia from earlier in the day, simply content to live and breathe. i am glad to exist

going to do a bit of a character outline to help me gather my thoughts on Steph. It will probably be incoherent.
Initially inspired by one of my bloodborne characters named "Kpop Steph". Kpop steph was my bloodtinge character, wearing a mixture between the Doll set and the Cainhurst set. She had blue hair and wore red goggles
Also took heavy inspiration from the Modest Mouse song "Styrofoam Boots" The specific lyrics and verse go "well some guy comes in looking a bit like everyone I've ever seen / He moves just like crisco disco breathing a hundred percent listerine / he says lookin at something else but directing everyone to me / "Anytime anyone gets on their knees to pray well it makes my telephone ring- and you were right / No one's running this whole thing" / He said "god takes care of himself and you of you"
The dialogue from the song happens in heaven, it's meant to come from Jesus christ. Crisco disco is the name of a famous gay club. Listerine is a reference to the act of drinking listerine for its alchohol content when you can't aquire or can't afford actual alchohol.
In many ways this idea of "athiest jesus" is the most central and important aspect of the entire world of BABBAL. The idea of jesus going to heaven, realizing that it's all true but losing faith in god anyways. To know that god is real and to deny him anyways.
BABBAL is a science fiction story that is intended to be heavily critical of science and the institutions that arose because of science.
BABBAL is also intended to be full of trans allegories, with many characters fully rejecting their humanity and place in wider society to get what they personally feel is right for them.
These two themes would ideally intersect heavily- expressing and discussing the way that science is often at odds with revolutionary ideas like gender abolition even when being against them is unscientific.
Steph is the oldest human in the wound- and the only character in the story who seems to be completely unaffected by warp.
While steph is eccentric and seems to barely be holding on to any semblance of sanity this is not due to warp. He was like this before. There's no reason for it. He's just weird.
Steph is meant to be the connecting lens between the hard science fiction of the greater universe and the eldritch fantasy-horror of the corpse.
Steph has complicated relationships with the rulers of the wound but none of them hate him except for Xanadu. He's generally the one who helps resolves conflicts. He is bad at resolving conflicts, but he's better than any of the other rulers.
Xanadu hates steph because he sees in steph someone that has overcome their human nature. Xanadu- despite his appearance and claims- is still human.
Steph is a scientist. It is how he describes himself when asked to describe himself. He takes great pride in being a scientist and adores science for what it is.
Because of his love for science, Steph despises institutions that call themself scientific without being "scientific enough" in his eyes. He believes that science should only be applied to find objective truth of the world and everything else is a mockery of true science.
He values non-scientific empiricism as a way to gather knowledge that can eventually lead to scientific theories and hypothesis. He does not consider simply gathering information to be scientific in nature.
Because of his belief in a heavily limited application of science he values folk wisdom and folk wisdom heavily. He believes that it's more accurate to rely on folk wisdom in cases where science is not a perfect fit.
steph is seen as a christ figure throughout much of the universe for his original discovery of the existence of reincarnation. proper reincarnation and memory-recreation was considered to be the basis of "modern science" in the setting. (futuristic science from our perspective)
the nature of warp means that scientific experiments are difficult or impossible to replicate. Personal wants and beliefs can influence outcomes, and the only way to come to understand warp and the corpse is to personally experience it for yourself. There is no collective scientific knowledge that can be drawn on.

Designing my first boss
This is me designing my first boss for my game.
youtube
There two types of firs bosses:
Mechanical bosses- tests the player of the mechanics they have learnt and to prepare them for the future challenges.
Story bosses- Kicks off the story, either being an important character or part of a larger thing.
Tumblr media
My first boss is Head commander Lancelot, champion of Excalibur (Reference to king Arthur and the knights of the round table), who I have designed to be difficult but easy to beat. He is a more mechanical type boss, allowing to show the player the pace and difficulty of the game. It also shows the player how weak they are and what the rest of the game holds.
Tumblr media
This is what he would look like (But probably in some fancy knight armour). I wanted to make him look like your typical fairy tale hero, with golden hair and eyes to show that to others he is your average good guy but in reality, he is not a good guy.
The battle begins simple enough with some simple combos, he is slow but packs a punch. He will not give the player any time to breathe, forcing the player to play defensively and exploiting every opening. At this point in the game, the player will only have basic combos and a few simple spells so the player will have to be careful. Once Lancelot reaches half health, he will start becoming much faster. He will also introduce an attack that summons multiple swords, either as projectiles or create a new combo. The player will have to become a lot more careful, as he becomes much more deadly. But to deal lots of damage, the player can dodge last minute when a sword is thrown towards them and a prompt will come up, when pressed the player will grab the sword and throw it back at Lancelot which will throw him off balance and allow the player to get a bunch of hits. When Lancelot is weak, the player has to shadow grab and finish him off.
I took some inspiration from Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne, who is the second boss of the game but is very challenging. Gascoigne is very tough because of his move set is so similar to the players, as he is a hunter enemy meaning he uses the same tricks and tactics as you. When he has a quarter of his health left, he turns into a monster which is much more deadly forcing the player to change fighting style quickly. I wanted my boss to be very similar in the way that it forces the player to fight one way before quickly switching to a different style of fighting.
