I haven't had time to write a proper review so all I'll say is this is better than Mexican Gothic, with a likeable male protagonist. He and the female main character didn't interact till the end, which is a letdown since that was promised but I enjoyed this story. Hey everyone, Happy September! 21 days 'till Fall! I'm ready for the heat to be over. But sadly, seasonal changes mean changing skin and hair products. Thankfully I don't have to do that with my hair. I can use the same products for my curls all year round without having to switch it up! Garnier's Curl Construct Creation Mousse keeps my curls curly for 3 days, which is fine with me. They'll become more wavish afterwards, since my hair's actually wavy, but since its short the curls last for an extra day or 2. John Frieda's Nourishing Oil Elixir keeps my frizz and flyaways at bay, but I barely use it. I had terrible frizz during my early 20's but I believe Garnier's Mousse does a better job at it. Or it could be due to me taking better care of my curls now. The Thrawn Ascendancy covers are some of the prettiest I've come across! My other favs are King of Scars and Wintersong. So i've finished Lesser Evil, the 3rd in this trilogy, and will have a review up soon. Overall this trilogy is ok, Greater Good (#2) being the strongest. There's a LOT of political and military world building, which gets tiresome if you're not into it, plus you need time to absorb the info, so try to borrow it from a friend, co-worker, relative, etc. I'm going to take a break, read something light, and then jump into the Thrawn Legends trilogy. Happy Hispanic/Latin Heritage Month to the Hispanic and Latin community! I'm reading 3 Hispanic/Latin books that may or may not change, depending on availability at my local library. My API reads for Asian & Pacific Island Heritage Month changed after some were unavailable so this heritage month's reads might go through the same. First up is Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. This historical fiction thriller set during the '70's in Mexico was all the rave last year, plus its sitting on my TBR so why not finally get to it? It's also a noir so I'm not expecting a happy ending but I hope it's better than Mexican Gothic. My Year in the Middle by Lila Quintero Weaver will be my 1st Middle Grade read as an adult. This story is about an Argentinean tween living in Alabama during the height of segregation; I've never read any stories about non-Black and White POC living in states that practiced segregation, which is why I chose to add it. And finally, Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez. I've heard about this book since I was a child but never read it, so I also added it too. This is a coming of age story about a Mexican teen who's looked down upon by her parents because she's not like her "perfect" sister Olga, however she discovers secrets about Olga after her death which opens up a lot of questions for the protagonist. Hello peeps, I was gonna type "Happy Friday" but realized today's Thursday 😩 Some days feel like that, but WFH blurs those days even more! In general I don't mind working from home but mentally logging out of work is hard when it's just a click away but not a commute. Solution? What are your go-to acne products? 10% Benzoyl Peroxide face wash does wonders for my face, keeping most acne at bay. I have moderate-severe acne, which means stronger medication than salicylic acid. I usually use Clean and Clear's but it was sold out at my local Walgreens so I had to settle for their version, which works just as well and is slightly cheaper! Neutrogena's Rapid Clear spot gel with Benzoyl Peroxide is perfect for those stubborn acne that won't go away with the face wash itself, but I wouldn't recommend it for those with sensitive skin or light acne. Hello everyone, Happy July! The heat's picking up here (booooo!) which makes me wish for warm Spring or Fall weather. While I don't really change my skin and hair care routine I decided to try a new pomade for my hair. I have seriously ANNOYING baby hairs that stick up like a mini cloud over my head, no matter how much mousse or leave-in lotion I use! My salonist suggested pomade but there are barely any for women (most are for men's hair or beard) plus they're too expensive, but after some research I settled for Garnier's Pure Clean Finishing Paste. It works fine for the hairs on top of my head but not so much for the sides. QOTD: What are your go-to products? I decided to do something different and talk about the products I use. Clean & Clear's Continuous Control Acne Cleanser ease my breakouts A LOT! I used to use a salicylic cleanser, which barely did anything, but after I read benzoyl peroxide is better for people with moderate to heavy acne I bought their abovementioned cleanser. Now I only deal with acne during my menstrual cycle (plus it got rid of oil on my nose and forehead!) Head & Shoulders Royal Oil Moisturizing Co-Wash contains the same dandruff-fighting ingredients but in a conditioner. I don't know if I'm supposed to use their shampoo with that (my parents bought this for me), neither do I know if they have a Royal Oil shampoo (haven't checked yet), but I've used the Co-Wash on its own; it works well for me 🤷🏽‍♀️ keeps my hair and scalp better moisturized than their original without royal oil, but its only 15.2 fl oz, so if you have long hair this will finish fast And for the last, Garnier Skin Active Moisture Rescue. Its a lightweight gel that keeps my face moisturized all day. I usually use Neutrogena's SPF moisturizer but I couldn't find any at my nearest Walgreens so I settled for this. I was sceptical about this since I've never used gel on my face, but it dries immediately with no residue! It also smells nice! I prefer my moisturizers to have SPF, but there's none in this so I'll have to buy one.
