...While doing some research for a post on wafer- and waffle-making for the Food and Cooking of the Middle Kingdoms project: ran across this sketch by Hieronymus Bosch of a lady making waffles—or wafers, it’s kinda hard to tell—at Fasnacht time (usually meaning the week before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent in the central European countries that celebrate it). Makng waffles would have been one way to use up the butter, eggs and other such foods that were off the menu during Lent.

Wafer and waffle irons of the time were plates of iron attached to long tongs. Originally they were round, but at some point the Dutch started making them as squares. (And now I’m curious as to why...) The irons were usually beautifully ornamented with all kinds of intricate and delicate designs.

Meanwhile: down in the right-hand corner, that’s either a really small dog in a cape and hood, or the best-dressed rat I’ve seen since watching The Amazing Maurice the other night.

I've been working on a full body doodle of my Miqo'te Bard Wafers (FFXIV). Got a decent base thanks to @adorkastock - was totally inspired by her archer post. (Also sorry for genderbend)

Current difficulty is the silly anime bow Terpendar Lux. I did it wrong and had to start again.

Will give catboi his tail once bow is one so it can compositionally look good with massive anime bow.
