A Ram's Lullaby- prologue

There were once 8 sinners.

The Dragon Sin of Wrath. His crime was the tremendous wrath that wiped out an entire Kingdom, thus earning him his sin.

The Serpent Sin of Envy. Her crime was killing her mentor out of envy.

The Fox Sin of Greed. He bears the Sin of Greed as it's presumed, he destroyed the Fairy King's Forest and killed the Holy Maiden who protected the Fountain of Youth for personal immortality.

The Grizzly Sin of Sloth. Accused of neglecting his duties as the Fairy King, which eventually led to the forest's destruction, he must bear the Sin of Sloth.

The Goat Sin of Lust. He was accused of seducing, assaulting, then murdering the Princess. For that, he was sentenced to death and named the Sin of Lust.

The Boar Sin of Gluttony. Blamed for the destruction of Belialuin, she was named the Sin of Gluttony.

The Lion Sin of Pride. After injuring many Holy Knights and tried to explain that he was well-intentioned but had no evidence to prove it and, for his attitude, was assigned the Sin of Pride.

The Ram Sin of Retribution and Vengeance. She was said to have burned and slaughtered villages out of a thirst for vengeance and retribution. The punishment she sought out was death, killing those everyone who lived in those villages whether they were innocent or not.

While some of these sinners were innocent of their crimes, others were not. The king brought these sinners together and made them the Seven Deadly Sins.

The Eighth sin became one a legend. No one knew she existed, she was simply just a myth to tell you children so they will behave.

It's said you can still hear her screams of vengeance, her outcries of retribution. The painful screams, the cries her victims wailed. They say when you hear her wails and bloodcurdling cries, you will be filled with a thirst for vengeance and retribution yourself.

Beware the Crimson Ram they say, or you'll have the same fate.

A little boy sat in a woman's arms as he sobbed. Her fingers ran through his curly blond locks as she tried to soothe him. She then began to sing,

"You're okay, you're alright

I'll never, ever leave your side

I will stay, I will fight

With you

Aah-aah, aah-ooh

You're okay, you're alright

I'll stay here through the darkest night

All the way, I will fight

With you"

When she finished singing, she looked down to see big teary blue eyes looking up at her. "What was that song?" he asked.

"That was a Ram's lullaby. Whenever you feel sad and alone, when you feel you're by yourself since no one is on your side or they don't understand you, sing this song."

The boy rested his head on her chest and clung to her. "Will you ever leave me?"

The woman was quiet for a moment. "Do you know what Rams symbolize?"

The boy shook his head confused. "Rams symbolize many things. They symbolize the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Rams are fearless, creative, and result-driven. They symbolize strength, courage, and determination. They are also symbols of fertility, wealth and power along with renewal and prosperity. Finally, they symbolize conquest, grit, endurance, and hard-headedness. You and I are like Rams. We are strong, courageous, and determined, but also stubborn and a bit aggressive at times. We are protective of those we care for and will do anything for them. We are passionate and confidant, self-expressive and honest. We, however, can be impatient and impulsive, short-tempered and competitive."

The woman looked down at the boy after finishing her speech. The boy pointed to the mark of her chest, "Is that why you have the ram?" The woman nodded. "The Ram on my chest symbolizes my crime, my sin. The Ram is an animal known for their violent and aggressive nature; they are result-driven animals. My crime was vengeance and retribution, I sought out violence and killed many because of it. The reason for my crime is fitting."

"Why did you kill?"

The woman looked at the flowers beside them. "Someone I cared for was killed. He did no wrong and because he was different, they killed him. He cried for help but those who saw it just turned their heads and watched him get beaten to death. I was furious and, in my grievance, killed everyone in that village. I continued my rampage and killed two more villages; however, they were just as guilty. I don't feel guilty for my crime however and would do it again if it meant avenging those I love."

The boy looked at her amazed. "Do you think that person you cared for is happy now?"

"I like to think so. I also think he left one final gift to me as his goodbye."

"What was that?"

"You and your brothers. You are so much like him."

"Really?"

The woman hummed and the boy snuggled into her neck. "Please don't ever leave me."

"I'm not going anywhere."
