Crowley didn't tell Aziraphale about the hellfire execution
Except that he did.
I've seen several people say that Crowley never told Aziraphale about the hellfire and his experience in Heaven pretending to be the angel.
But when Gabriel first shows up and Crowley wants to dump him somewhere, he says, "That is your former boss who tried very hard to cast you into hellfire and destroy you."
And Aziraphale shows no surprise. He knew about that. Crowley did tell him at some point. Exactly what details Aziraphale got, it's hard to know for sure, but he knew the gist.

Why are there Infinity Loops or Möbius Strips in Good Omens?
The infinity loop, it's the idea of something that is unlimited and endless, you know...
Tumblr media
In this post, I'm going to explore some of the symbols in the show that I think relate to this concept of eternity. For example, have you noticed that the infinity loop shows up amongst the symbols at the start of Season 1? While God's narrates about her "ineffable game" of her own devising, here it is on screen:
Tumblr media
Why do we see so many infinity symbols here? Where else can we see this same symbol?
Read on for the places I've spotted it in both S1, S2 and the book. I’m hoping you’ll let me know if I missed any, and what you think it all means!
Eternity in Good Omens
In the book, when Crowley is explaining the concept of eternity to Aziraphale, he uses the idea of a bird which flies every thousand years to the same mountain to sharpen it's beak. Here's the conversation, with Aziraphale's interruptions edited out (pg. 55 - 56 in my hardcopy):
“Just you think about it," said Crowley relentlessly. "You know what eternity is? You know what eternity is? I mean, d'you know what eternity is? There's this big mountain, see, a mile high, at the end of the universe, and once every thousand years there's this little bird—” “Okay. And every thousand years this bird flies—" "flies all the way to this mountain and sharpens its beak—” “Sharpen its beak on the mountain," said Crowley. "And then it flies back—” “And after a thousand years it goes and does it all again," said Crowley quickly.”
This story originally came from a folk tale called the Shepherd Boy. It's very short and you can read the Brother's Grimm version here. (Update: The Annotated Pratchett also thinks this may be a reference to James Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man).
If we take Crowley at his word, then eternity in Good Omens is represented by repeating the same thing over again, whether that's flying forever to the same mountain, or having to watch the Sound of Music "over and over and over and over and over and over and over" into infinity.
The Infinity Loop
The common symbol for infinity, ∞, was invented by the English mathematician John Wallis in 1655. Being an extremely popular symbol, it shows up in a lot of places, including the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Several other uses are detailed on the wikipedia page.
So, where does it appear in Good Omens? In addition to God's monologue, we also see it during the S1 baby swap sequence as part of the Satanic nun's costumes. Here it is on the upside-down watches they wear:
Tumblr media
Here it is again on Newt's belt buckle in S1:
Tumblr media
Here's another possible infinity symbol on Newt's computer screen, when he's working at United Holdings:
Tumblr media
Outside of the show, it also appears on the merch released post-S2 (though a little bit disguised in the form of the snake wrapped around them). Included is the tagline of "The end was just the start".
Tumblr media
There are also two references to infinity in the book. Here's the first very near the start (pg. 14 of my 2015 hardback edition):
“He [God] plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, [ie., everybody.] to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.”
And here's the other, closer to the end, at the airfield (pg. 363 of my edition):
“Adam glanced up. In one sense there was just clear air overhead. In another, stretching off to infinity, were the hosts of Heaven and Hell, wingtip to wingtip. If you looked really closely, and had been specially trained, you could tell the difference.”
So, Good Omens makes a few references to infinity, which I find interesting in itself. But wait, there's more!
The Ouroboros
There is another symbol which also appears in Good Omens and also suggests a form of repetition - the ouroboros. The ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail and depicts an eternal cycle of renewal - an end which comes back to the start again. I recommend taking a look at the whole wikipedia page, which is quite fascinating:
Now, this would be a rather abstract representation, but I think this appears on the wall of Nina's cafe. Unfortunately, in my image Terry's name has been cut off, but it does say Terry and Neil within those segments of the loop:
Tumblr media
So we have the infinity symbol, the ouroboros... anything else? Well, yes, there is a third symbol for us to ponder over.
The Mobius Strip
Closely related to the idea of the infinity symbol is that of the mobius strip. To oversimplify things, the mobius strip is a object which is a continuous surface in a loop. At first glance, it appears to have two sides, but these are indeed all part of the same side (maybe we should call this "our side"?). As shown in the below gif, an object traversing the surface of the strip can repeat in a continuous loop.
Tumblr media
Where does the mobius strip appear in Good Omens? Well, it appears in the book. Here it is being used to refer to Anathema's broken bike wheel (pg. 92 in my 2015 hardback edition):
“Behind the Bentley a bicycle lay in the road, its front wheel bent into a creditable Mobius shape, its back wheel clicking ominously to a standstill.”
And again, describing the discussions of the Them, while Adam is coming into his powers (pg. 229 in my hardback):
“Serve everyone right if all the nucular bombs went off and it all started again, only prop'ly organized," said Adam. "Sometimes I think that's what I'd like to happen. An' then we could sort everythin' out." The thunder growled again. Pepper shivered. This wasn't the normal Them mobius bickering, which passed many a slow hour. There was a look in Adam's eye that his friend couldn't quite fathom—not devilment, because that was more or less there all the time, but a sort of blank grayness that was far worse.”
Not only does the word "mobius" appear twice in the book, but Neil has continued to be interested in such ideas, releasing the song Mobius Strip in April 2023 (as brought to my attention by @embracing-the-ineffable). The song is a meditation on the nature of time, magic and how things tend to repeat. In the song, the grandfather shows the boy a trick to creating a mobius strip using paper, tape and some scissors. Here's how the song concludes:
"I'm... Somewhere on the strip We all are, walking the sign of infinity into the darkness And I'm looking for signs of a life, in a memory Reflected in the mirror I'm a mobius strip We all are We only ever see one face It's the twist that brings you back where you started"
If you're unfamiliar with the idea of creating a paper-based mobius strip, here's a video on how it works:
youtube
Is the loop Aziraphale and Crowley?
To form a mobius strip, you need to cut the paper first, flip it, and then join the ends back together.
To me, this reminds me a lot of the S2 opening sequence, when we see the bridge disconnect, separating Aziraphale and Crowley on either side, only to then reconnect at another place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does this mean the bridge, and perhaps the loop, represents our ineffable duo? This merch sure seems to suggest so...
Tumblr media
That could be one interpretation of this sequence, though I'm sure there are others. What do you think? Does the loop say anything about Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship to one another?
Put it all together and...
In summary, we have at least three different symbols signifying some sort of repetition in Good Omens - the infinity loop, ouroboros and mobius strip. So, what might they mean? Why do you think it's been included, and so often? Even more importantly, have I missed any? There's endless details to be mined from this show, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are more.
I have a few theories, but nothing concrete yet, so I'm really interested in hearing everyone's ideas!

Good Omens Cosplay
Furfur's scarf / cravat
A knitting pattern
Tumblr media
In the original costume pictures, Reece very kindly shared, Furfur's scarf is made out of a strip of distressed fabric.
In the final shots of the series, probably due to the colour grading, it looks a lot darker and more like a seed stitch knitted scarf. It inspired me to knit one for myself.
Maybe it's useful for your cosplay or for some everyday Furfur bounding.
Tumblr media
You need:
Yarn: 1x Scheepjes Metropolis in the colour Depok approximately £7,-
Or any 50gr / 200m skein of fingering weight yarn.
Knitting Needles: 2.75mm / US 2
Pattern:
Cast on 23 stitches
Row 1 - Row 8: Knit all stitches
Row 9 - repeat until desired length: Knit 1 Purl 1 until the end of the row (seed stitch) always starting and ending with a knit stitch.
Knit all stitches of the last 8 rows, bind off and weave in the ends.
You need to be able to wrap the scarf around your neck and knot it in the front twice + extra length to tuck in. I made mine around 140cm / 55 inches
Give it a gentle soak in a wool wash and block evenly.
You can distress the fabric you created or leave it for a polished Earth look.
You're going to be in a Knit 1 Purl 1 Hell loop for a while, but it's totally worth it!
Put Depeche Mode on repeat and sing along, watch Good Omens again (and again) binge watch Inside No. 9 (because you definitely should)
Tadaa: scarf 💚
Tumblr media
Now go block some miracles in style, give Shax a fist bump from me and work towards that promotion you so much deserve.
Tumblr media
You can add it to your Ravelry here:

adam is... DEAD?!?!
finally rewatching good omens s2 and this might've already been discussed but i haven't read anything abt it and ahh okay
so i was (re)watching s2e1 and everything was fun and games until i decided to pause every now and then during the intro to see if i could spot some details or clues or whatever. and DAMN there's a lot. some i understand, some i don't, and some i think are either symbolic to smth that happens OR a vague maybe not so vague anticipation of what's coming up on s3 (manifesting the shit out of it bc i NEED IT SO BAD).
anyway, at the beginning of the intro animation there's this scene where crowley and aziraphale (among other characters) are walking through a graveyard. this ofc is a reference to the minisode they help the girls in the graveyard & the whole "not dying enuff dying" etc scene (i don't remember the name of it nor the year but y'know what i'm talkin bout). anyway, that's not the point. the point is that in that moment of the intro, you can see some tombstones AND some of them have things written on em. for instance, one of them says "everyday" (y'know the name of beelzebub and gabriel's song) and another "jane austen" (aziraphale and the whole "having a ball jane austen style is peak romance" thing) which are interesting clues of what's coming, but having watched the season already wasn't that big of a revelation to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
however, there's also some tombstones that i don't understand, like one that says "peter paintball" (crowley's voice do we know a peter paintball?).
Tumblr media
okay but that's not all! there's also one that talks abt beelzebub's change of appearance ("here lies the former shell of beelzebub") AND next to that one there's one that says "here lies ADAM / "i do not understand, surely your very existence requires the ending of the world. it is written" (quote from s1 or at least it's in the book idk)
Tumblr media
BRO WHAT ???? ADAM'S DEAD??????? like ik he and the other kids don't appear in s2, but neither does anathema or newton or shadwell or madam tracey (her actress does, but the character doesn't). and like idk but reading that shocked me bc like... adam served no purpose anymore so he died?? all this time i thought he was like,, the same kid but without his powers or wtv.. but die? never thought of that. and it drives me insane and i needed to get it out of my system. so yeah, tumblr post.
bonus: i cant fucking figure out what's written on it. if anyone knows what it says.. help !!
all i can read is smth along the lines of "... early to ..." but idk. tried to play with contrasts and brightness but it didn't help much.
Tumblr media
anyway, pls don't let me go nuts alone and say smth !!!
also this is only a small fraction of s2e1 INTRO. like,, there's a lot to unpack here.

hi I'm new to tumblr and I have little to no clue how I should try to start building a platform here and how to do up my profile. rn I'm just reblogging posts I find interesting, but if anyone can just explain it a little that would be great :)
im quite invested in the gomens fandom as well, so if anyone can recommend how to learn about some of the fandom inside jokes, etc that would be excellent.

Crowley hand gestures at Aziraphale to stop talking
Tumblr media
Gabriel hand gestures at Aziraphale to stop talking
The same hand gesture used by both Crowley and Gabriel within a short space of time, indicating to Aziraphale they want him to stop speaking
The same hand gesture but a world of difference in how it's used! Crowley's hand so softly drawn down with graceful fingers in such a gentle expressive way, which coupled with his slight head shake and pursed lips "ssshhh angel" makes the hand gesture seem more like a calming caress and is done with a loving intent
In total contrast to the way Archangel Gabriel uses the hand gesture threateningly, pressing his fingers tightly together as if crushing something between them almost on the way to making a closed fist, at the same time glaring hatefully and menacingly saying to Aziraphale to "shut up" the hand gesture here representing an attempt at intimidation
Anyway this post is because I'd been thinking about these hand gestures and just wanted to analyse them a bit more as it was interesting to me that Crowley and Gabriel used the same gesture to quieten down Aziraphale.
But the meaning and what it tells you about the entity using this hand gesture and what it indicates about the dynamic between Aziraphale and each of them using it is so wildly different it just makes my brain explode

So I was rewatching s2 for the umpteenth time, as one does, pausing here and there to admire some details, for example the sculpture of the rearing horse and tamer that wears Crowley's glasses when he's in the bookshop. A sculpture that gets a couple of close ups that I was not sure what to do with. And guys: I had completely forgotten that the Marly Horses are supposed to be a pair.
A pair of forces of nature who refuse to be tamed, to obey to the command of their masters.
So I looked closely and sure enough, here's the other one, (not) casually basking in the sunlight opposed to the dark side of Crowley's one, guarding the door from the other side:
Tumblr media
Much as they guarded the entrance of the Chateau de Marly, the very exclusive and sinful, one could even say hellish, private residence of Louis XIV, before being sacked during the French Revolution and brought to the entrance of the Champs Élysées, the avenue in Paris named after the greek-latin equivalent of the paradise.
And after guarding both a form of hell and a form of paradise, guess what else they guard...

What bugs me is that feeling that we all are so attentive to the minor details in Good Omens that in the end Neil will be like "I can't believe you missed that" and it will be something so obvious that I am going to bite my arm off.

happy third season announcement thursday! i'm back with my overanalyzing everything behavior.
so remember this post? well. i have more things to say...
Tumblr media
Aziraphale is always in the darker side of the scene except for that part of the kiss (+ when he's talking to the metatron but that happens before so i wouldn't count it. i did realize however that the metatron has a darker background when he talks to Aziraphale and when they finish talking and Azi heads back to the bookshop, there's a red wall behind the metatron. like, y'know, red as in evil ?? lolz okay idk) & i think perhaps this is because Aziraphale wants to reject the metatron's offer, & when Crowley kisses him, for a moment he feels like he might be able to stay on earth, but then again he's tormented by everything the metatron's said & all the manipulation involved etc. & thus the darker backgrounds. as of Crowley, well, his side of each scene is usually brighter + sunlit because he's being honest & damn does he know what he wants (everything that an extremely alcoholic breakfast at the ritz could involve i guess). i think in that particular cut, he's on the darker side because in that moment he realizes that he's lost Aziraphale (again, but this time's even worse).
so yeah, you could say rewatching those 15 minutes over & over & over again was, though heartbreaking, worth it.
ALSO idk but like,, has anyone noticed how that little statue (of what i believe is a lady with a bow + arrow in her arms) is kind of pointing Aziraphale? (this is the part where Crowley's already left & the metatron asks Aziraphale how it went + if he wants to take smth before he leaves & all that). i need to know who tf she is because i know pointing someone with an arrow can mean many things, for a hunter & a cupid are not the same.
Tumblr media
you can see the statue is on the left, it's black/dark brown + appears to be metalic (maybe bronze? idk)
AND FURTHERMORE, there's this white head sculpture (idk who this is either) that is literally LOOKING at Aziraphale?? & idk maybe i'm overreacting but it could be related to the metatron. maybe both objects together mean "i'm watching you & threatening you, you're surrounded & have nowhere to run to, your only alternative is to surrender; be a good angel & do as you're told".
Tumblr media
you can spot the head sculpture on the right, it's white + the material is marble-like (not sure if it's real marble)
idk guys,, food for thought lolz..

Detail & theory noticed by @servantserah
They recently posted into their Instagram story saying:

And I've done some research. To my knowledge, jigger can also mean:
Tumblr media
"to alter or rearrange especially by manipulating"
As for someone who found the coffee theory gibberish from the start, I'm kind of starting to believe it!
I can't believe how many details the good omens fandom can catch!
