"If it isn't Charles Leclerc." Charles jumps in shock hearing his name in the Las Vegas night club, his drink spilling over the floor as he turns around smiles. "oh, it's Daniel Ricciardo." The Aussie gives him a huge smile back.
"What are you doing here?" Daniel grabs Charles by the arm and pulls him into the direction of the bar, ordering Charles a replacement drink. "I came here to do some karting stuff, what about you?" He's shouting over the beat of the music. "I just like to come and vacation here."
"Do you want to dance?" Daniel pulls Charles by the arm once again, almost spilling his replacement drink in the process. "What with you?" It's too loud and Charles' brain isn't working properly did Daniel ask him dance or did he mean dance side by side. "If you want." Daniel cracks another big smile.
The drink goes to his head, maybe he's had four or five now, he can't remmber. The pounding of the bass, the flashing lights and the sweaty dancing bodies drag him towards Daniel. It's too dark to know who  he is.
Daniel looks him up and down, checking him out? Maybe it's just the drink but Daniel is smirking at him, asking him he really wants to dance. Charles just nods his head. Daniel is practically gleaming now, pulling Charles in with his hips, there's no distance between them as their bodies move as one.
Charles is turned in Daniel's arms his back is pressed against his chest, ass pressed against Daniel's crotch. The older man is still swaying his hips to the music, practically rubbing himself against Charles, so the thinks fuck it and pushes his ass back, grinding into Daniel's crotch. His heart pounds like the beat of the music as Daniel's hands explore his body over from his hips to his ribs.
He's not usual one for grinding but this is something else, this is sensual and his cock has become the slightest bit interested, he knows Daniel is hard, he can feel him pressed against the swell of his ass.
The music keeps them going, their bodies dirtly rubbing together as they sway across the dance floor together. The longer it goes on the harder Charles has become, it's a good thing it's dark because Charles' tight jeans leave little to the imagination.
Daniel's hands sneak further down his body, he brushes his thumb over Charles' sensitive nipple through the fabric of his white shirt. Charles jumps in Daniel's arms but that doesn't stop Daniel giving his other nipple a squeeze, Charles is struggling to bite back his moans.
Charles reaches behind him and presses his fingers into Daniel's sweaty neck, pulling him into a kiss. It's an awkward angle but their lips meet, moving slowly against each other while their tongues battle for dominance.
Daniel pulls away from Charles lips to bite at the sensitive skin on his neck, causing goose pimples to rise over his skin, while his hands slide down towards Charles' tight jeans, his thumb sinking into the waist band but he just rests his hand there.
"Do you want to come back to my hotel room? It's just over the road" Daniel grabs him and pulls him out into fresh air, the air is still humid and hot, making Charles feel drunker than ever. They practically run into Charles room, not wanting to be seen together.
They giggle as they fall through the hotel room door, Charles takes his shirt off and throws it across the room, pressing Daniel against the wall as he drops to his knees, lowering the Aussie's pants and boxers to his ankles, exposing his rock hard cock.
Charles doesn't waste any time getting his mouth around Daniel's cock, digging his finger tips into strong thighs as he swallows the whore length easily. He bobs up and down, coating him in saliva before taking in the whore of him and holding.
"Fuck, Charles." Daniel moans, sinking his fingers into the younger ones hair, but not pulling at. Charles smiles around him as he comes up breath, bobbing up and down again, flatting his tongue to lick along the shaft.
"Do I suck dick better than Max does?" He asks fluttering his eyelashes, he's not sure where the confidence has come from, but he feels, giggly and happy. "I would like you to fuck me now." Charles removes his jeans and boxers and jumps onto the bed, watching has Daniel removes his own shirt.
Their lips meet again in a hot, rough kiss. Daniel pulls Charles in even closer, so not of inch of space is between them as he pushes his tongue into Charles' mouth. Charles can't help but giggle into the kiss, he's down bad for Daniel.
Charles feels Daniel's hands sliding down his body, giving his cock a light stroke, while still kissing him. Daniel is practically sitting on him, abandoning his cock and moving towards his hole, a long finger brushes against it.
"Do you have a lube?" Charles nods and reaches over into the night stand to grab the travel size bottle. "Why do you have this?" Daniel laughs pouring a generous amount onto his fingers. "Me and Pierre fuck sometimes." Charles sucks in a breath as Daniel presses his finger against Charles. "Pierre's not here though is he?" Daniel jokes. "I am a gay man with needs Daniel, who cares. Just fuck  me please."
Daniel makes quick work of opening him, starting off with one finger and lazily fucking him with it, until Charles had told him to hurry the fuck up, so he soon as a second digit, then another until he's got three fingers slamming in and out of easily. "I'm ready, come on."
"Okay Mr needy." Charles giggles but this is serious Daniel has been teasing him all night, he can't wait a second longer. He needs that cock buried inside of him and preferably fucking him hard.
Daniel wraps Charles legs around his waist and presses the head of his cock against him, giving him a quick peck to the lips as he pushes inside. Charles gives a moan of relief as he feels himself stretching to accommodate Daniel. He feels so good as Daniel feeds him an inch at a time.
He slams in the rest of the way with a quick thrust, Charles moans as Daniel bottoms out inside of him, it feels so good to be filled up like this. Daniel soon starts moving starting off slowly then making his way up to harder and deeper thrusts, Charles' moans only spurring him on.
"Fuck You feel so good Charles." Daniel moans thrusting in and out him with a punishing speed, the headboard bangs against the bed with every move. "Please, fuck me harder." Charles pushes his hips back, wanting even more. Daniel giggles. "Nothing but a little slut."
Who is Daniel to deny a cute begging Charles? He fucks into the younger man with all his might, changing his thrust until he finds the bundle of nerves inside of him, making him moan even louder. Daniel wraps his hand around Charles' cock and strokes him to the same pace until he comes screaming words in French as he paints Daniel's hand milky white.
"So close, so close." Daniel growls, almost falling on top of him in the process of it, he manages three more hard thrusts and he's filling Charles with his cum. He's half aware they didn't use a condom, but regular testing his part of the F1 program so he's sure it's fine.
Charles quickly grabs his shirt off the floor and pulls it over his head. "What are you doing?" Daniel watches as he pulls his phone out of his pocket and sits at the edge of his bed. He's making a boomerang for Instagram.
Charles points the camera towards himself, Daniel takes the opportunity to pop up behind him, huge smile on his face. Charles himself struggles to stop the corners of his own mouth twitch up in a smile. He captions it 'Who dat boy." and posts it.
When he wakes up in the morning he'll probably regret posting that but after all what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Summary: Eddie never catches their names, the women he sleeps with- so he names them himself. When he catches you in passing, he names you Kate.

Author's Note: This is based off of the song Kate by Sean Kennedy. Literally so good.
He remembered all of them, cheap fucks- the price of them actually free, usually. The first couple times, he swore he was in love. The naivety of youth and the fresh break of virginity created a rose-tint that kicked his heart in the ass every night for months. But after a few more, he realized that he actually just liked the idea of feeling wanted. No strings attached. No discrepancies of the boy-friendly woes like hand-holding or learning her name to worry about.
All women in passing, faces in a somber crowd. Maybe they wanted the same thing that he did- to feel something for just a second. He figured a lot of them just wanted to feel pretty again.
He felt bad at first, taking advantage of them in skeezy bar bathrooms and in the back of his van, knowing that he was capable of much more than that, but the feelings numbed alongside the tenderness of being touched that way. Love didn’t just lose its meaning. Love was the worst curse he could think of. Love was something he had never known. Love kicked his heart in the ass one too many times.
He decided that love was never a bitch he would get to know, that was until Kate walked in.
It was in passing first. It was still early enough that the streets and sidewalks of Hawkins, Indiana remained relatively unburdened. The latch-key hour was for his morning stroll, post-black-coffee-camel hanging from his two fingers, ash teetering dangerously off the end. You came brushing past, inherently unremarkable. You didn’t meet his eye when you walked past, though, he couldn’t quite tell with the sunglasses that covered the top half of your face.
You were West Hollywood. You walked like Sunset Strip. You smelled all of the romantic parts of a skeezy, intoxicated one night stand after a Whiskey A Go-Go show, the ambergris bourbon and cardamom seeping through his nose like a cancer. You were the entire crowd, and one person all at once. He could feel the stage light burning red hot against him as the bass crescendo rolled through your body. In his brain, the show was your legs thrown over his shoulders.
He shook his head, rattling the thought out of his ears like a set of dice on the upholstery of a Vegas craps table. Falling in love- or lust- with a stranger in passing wasn’t his style, yet here he was, die firmly sat on seven.
Preemptively, Eddie named you Kate.
Kates were nice girls. Kates wore frilly ankle socks and mary janes and their boyfriend’s letter jackets. Kates did their homework, went to college, made it home by curfew. Kates loved their parents and taught Sunday school. Kates steered clear of boys like Eddie.
But Eddie loved ruining girls like Kate.
+
As quick as Kate flooded his mind, Kate was just as quick to leave. He didn’t pine. He didn’t hurt. He didn’t feel anything.
Until the ambergris bourbon of the Sunset Strip turned into black coffee and cigarettes and unfiltered morning light, tucked in between the glue-laden binding of trashiest Cosmo edition you could get your hands on.
His eyes started at your ankles, watching the way you swung the crossed mass back and forth in a mindless rhythm, allowing the sole of your shoe to scrape against the concrete. He watched their way your body folded into itself comfortably- in a way that he speculated only women knew how to do. He saw how your eyelashes nearly kissed the apples of your cheeks as you looked down to read, chin against your palm that was propped against your knee.
You looked so peaceful, and Eddie loved disturbing the peace.
He gripped his coffee in his hands, relinquishing the burn of the hot liquid barely filtered by the paper cup to ground him out. His feet, like cement weights, dragged towards you.
“Is this seat taken?” He asked, and you jumped slightly, staring at him with wide eyes.
“Oh, sorry, didn’t mean to scare you” He apologized quickly, already starting to turn on his heel. The symphony of stupid already rattling around in the pink matter of his brain.
“Oh! No! I just didn’t notice you walking up.. Go ahead, sit!” You said, overly-friendly and not wanting to cause him any emotional distress.
He pulled the chair in front of the outdoor table back, the cast iron scraping disgustingly on the concrete and wobbling slightly as he sat. He took another drag off of his cigarette, before eyeing your magazine.
“Whatcha’ readin’?” He asked, nonchalantly, and you giggled, flipping the magazine over to the front.
Cindy Crawford splayed across the front of the magazine with a bright orange cover, hair elegantly windblown and delivering the most sensual bedroom eyes that the Melvald’s had ever witnessed.
Top Male Stars Tell What Turns Them On. Would You Believe a “Toothy Grin”? Was the first headline Eddie caught. He read it slowly, then panned his eyes back up to your beaming face, a similar toothy grin pulling at your corners of your mouth and pushing the flesh up beneath your eyes.
Eddie didn’t read Cosmo, yet, he resonated that yes, absolutely, a toothy grin could, in-fact, turn him on.
“Awful, isn’t it?” You asked him, giggle still lingering in your words.
“Yeah.. it is.” He said, offering a nervous laugh back. He didn’t expect you to say it out loud, he thought that maybe you had actually been indulging in whatever garbage it had to offer.
“But,” He started again, “If it's so bad, then why are you reading it?” He asked you.
“I think it’s funny.” You said back to him, like it was obvious, “They’re literally just pages full of garbage about what men think women want.”
“Does anyone even take those things seriously?” He asked, arching a brow at the tabloid in suspicion.
“I’m sure they do.” You said back to him, confidently.
“So what do women want?” He asked, bravery coming to him in a sudden spurt. It blindsided you.
“Other than a toothy grin?” You asked, half-sarcastically.
“Is there anything else a woman could possibly want?” He questioned back.
“Oh sure. Lots of things.”
“Like what?”
“A cigarette, for starters.”
He released a breathy laugh, flipping the box open, lighting it, and passing it over to you.
While you were talking about double-standards and patriarchies, he was taking in the features of your face. He didn’t mean to focus so intently on your lips as they closed around the filter, or the unknowing sensuality of the way you rolled the cigarette between your index and middle fingers. You released a soft french inhale from your lips, and he so desperately wished that it was him that replaced the smoke billowing from your mouth.
To be completely honest, Eddie didn’t care what women wanted unless it was you that wanted him.
“So, what about you?”
The question drew him back up for air, pulling the cotton from his ears in a blindsided panic.
“What?” He asked, quickly shaking his previous thoughts from his head.
“What do men want?” You asked, not taking notice of his momentary panic. Instead, you rested your chin in your palm.
“Well I can’t answer for all men, but this man wants a pretty girl watching his show on Tuesday.” He said back to you, smoothly.
He didn’t catch your name.
+
The Hideout was dingy, to say the least, but it has its own distinct, homely charm. The people in it were friendly enough, aside from the odd drunken skeeze- but you figured every rose has its thorn.
By the time you strolled in, the band had already been playing. You sat yourself down in the very back up against the bar, away from the tables hosting other patrons. The bartender was a nicer older woman, the kind that called you baby and healed whatever emotional trauma your parents might have given you. She poured your water-spotted lowball glass with Patron Silver, the edge rimmed with salt and garnished with a lime.
You are a republic of voices tonight, watching as the mysterious man you seemed to almost kind-of like bounced around on stage. He flipped his hair back, sweat cascading off of the ends like glitter and the stage light casting a halo around his head.
You met his eye, and relished in the comfort of your dark corner, avoiding the stage lights from catching your fact at all costs. It was as if the harsh, angling light will turn you to flesh and bone. Mortality will pierce you through the retina.
And much to your demise, the pink lighting does catch your face. You don’t vaporize. Eddie sees your face, and the way the light illuminates the space behind your corneas, casting a monochromatic glow over the top portion of your body. He throws a wink you’re way and, even though there’s realistically no one in here who would be on the receiving end of that wink aside from you, you question if it was.
The songs are loud. The music is abrasive. You don’t know the words, but you wish you did. You liked the way it rang in your ears- you liked the way Eddie rang in your ears.
The last song is different from the rest of them. By now, most of the other people had filed out and the bartender idly wiped down the countertops. The song was sultry, his voice took on a hum much different than the loud, boisterous tone he took on previously.
“Kate… Likes to hear her name out loud.
Kate… Likes it when I use my mouth….”
You watched him intently, deft fingers plucking over acoustic guitar strings. His legs were braced against the stool, jeans stretching over his spread thighs. He watched you this time, your sweet face pressed into your soft palm. You had kind eyes, and he tried not to think about watching them roll back in fucked-out bliss as he played.
By the time the song was over, there was a tension between you that could be scooped with a spoon. He quickly pulled the strap of his guitar off from around his neck and made his way towards where you sat. You decided quickly that you needed liquid courage, licking the side of your glass and dumping the remnants of tequila into your mouth.
“You came?” He asked you, outstretching his long arms to encase you in a bone-crushing hug.
“What… were you expecting me to run in the other direction?” You asked with a breathy laugh, in part because he squeezed it out of you.
“Honestly a little bit.” He said back, giving you the same laugh you offered, though his was more guttural.
You sat at the bar for a bit, giving each other a good back and forth rhythm. You spoke about nothing in particular, and everything all at once. FInally, you had built up enough courage- so greatly donated to your person by Patron Silver- to ask,
“So… Whose Kate?”
He froze for a second, like he didn’t know how to respond.
“Oh… just a girl I met a while ago.”
“She sounds interesting.”
“She is interesting.”

You don’t know how you ended up at Forest Hills Trailer Park.
Actually, you knew exactly how you ended up back at Forest Hills Trailer Park.
What you couldn’t recall, is how Eddie had managed to sweet talk his way under your shirt, out of your jeans, and in between your legs (even though you actually kind of knew that, too.)
Despite his abrasive nature and equally abrasive exterior, he was soft with your body. His hands were gentle, and his kisses were feather-light. He held you like glass. He pressed hot kisses down your throat, your collarbones and sternum. He lapped gently at your pert nipples, pebbling them softly beneath his tongue. His fingertips ghosted over your hips and over the rounds of your thighs. But his mouth was foul.
“You taste like fucking candy.” He groaned, though muffled by your thighs as he licked a crude, wet stripe in between your folds.
He rolled his tongue over your clit and you cried the prettiest sound he had ever heard.
He realized that his previous sentiments in naming you Kate were incorrect- or maybe that he was wrong about Kates everywhere.
Kate was pretty, and she left her perfect clothes in a perfect pile on his bedroom floor. Kate didn’t have frilly socks, instead her bare ankles hung around his shoulders as he kissed her thighs. Kate drank chilled Patron Silver and smoked stolen camels- but only in the morning and only with coffee. Kate loved when boys like Eddie sang about her on stage. Kate liked having her pussy eaten.
Kate also felt more human than the other girls he took against the wall.
“Baby, you’re so wet for me.” He sighed against your thigh, momentarily relieving you of the intense pressure building against your clit as he slid his middle and ring finger past your entrance.
You let out a sigh, hands reaching down to grasp the pillowy dough of your own thighs as he curled his fingers within you. They brushed that beautiful spongy spot over and over again. His spare hands curled over the fingers that gripped your thighs, sweetly.
Your orgasm came as a flood, intense pleasure beginning at your core and radiating through your body. He continued to work his fingers through your apex and pressed hot honey kisses to your shaking thighs.
“You ready for my cock, sweetheart?” He asked, sitting up on his knees and rubbing your thighs between his heavy hands, tenderly.
“”M ready.” Was all you could muster in your still-floaty state. He chuckled softly, pulling his belt off.
You watched the way his alabaster skin stretched over his bones like leather. As he pulled his jeans and boxers off, clumsily, you also watched his pretty cock. Pink at the tip with significant length and girth, a pearlescent bead of precum gathering at the tip. Eddie really was very pretty.
He worked two fingers into you slowly, feeling out your sensitivity. When he deemed you ready, he slid the tip in, slowly. You moaned softly at the dull ache and stretch.
“There we go, baby, s’good for me. Taking it so well.” He said to you, softly, heavy grand gripping your hip. You squeezed his own with your knees.
As he began to rock, there was an ex cathedra riff coming down from the Vatican: Repent. Your body is the temple of the Lord and you have defiled it. It is, after all, Sunday morning, and as long as you have any brain cells left there will be a resonant patriarchal basso echoing down the marble vaults of your churchgoing childhood to remind you that this is the Lord's Day.
“You feel so good babe, so- fuck- tight on my cock.” His words combined with the heavy thrust of his body entwined with yours reeled you back into reality. His grip on your hips tightened, less soft than before. You knew he felt it, too.
As he came, the oiled ellipses of his hips and shoulders tightened, warm ropes of cum coating your slick walls. Your second orgasm following is only a few seconds behind.
He collapsed on to you, dramatically, resting his head in between the valley of your breasts. His breaths were heavy still, and his skin shone with a sheen of sweat that made him glow. His cheeks were tinted pink and his eyelashes kissed with his smile.
When he came down, he lifted his head to meet your eyes.
“My name’s not Kate, by the way.”

12/10-11/2023
sunday - monday
i did work on music, but,
i hit a really annoying snag, one of the (*) i used for the new plugins i got, which i only used 2 of, and sparingly i feel like, has gone wrong, so every few seconds it outputs a hissing noise instead of effecting the input. really annoying. i'm trying to figure out which songs i've really used that on, i don't think many? we'll see. i guess i can check now if i'm using it on one of the guitar sounds i really like. i think maybe. but also that might just be vst3 things and have nothing to do w/ that sound. that would be a blessing. i know i have one really overt use that i feel worried about losing what it does, i'll have to figure out some other fucked up feedback sound for that i suppose. that could be interesting though, i think i could find something really interesting there, maybe.
so far like one other song, in a nonessential way, easy to just cut that out and use another plugin in its place, and then forego the transient shaper (sucks but what can i do, it was probably totally inaudible anyways, maybe the mix will be better with the bass not getting that particular boost too?).
found another, sadly i think it was maybe more important but idk, still able to get a sound i liked out of something else, it's just sad it's not as easy, which is really what i liked about that plugin.
yeah, it does sound good.
i can probably stop checking for the rest of the night, and then see more tomorrow. i am also looking at another plugin that seems similar and is free. i should see if i can scoop up others like this as well. bit editors specifically. they're probably not actually doing bit editing/that precise a kind of crushing but it's interesting to hear, i really like it because it can do a really sharp thing, depending on which bits you fuck with. the one i found seems like it can do roughly what i want it to do (but no feedback function which rlly sucks). i hope they figure out whatever went wrong with the thingy.
otherwise i mixed 2 songs today, it went well i think. i listened to the others i mixed and some are a little thin, vocals need to get more range put back in which is easy to solve, and then what, one song has drums that are too loud over all, one song has a snare that's too sharp i think. other than that, idk.
the plugin is like, really weird in ways but i can get it to do what i want (sooo thankful it can just be sharp and annoying).
today we did see friends, it was a long day with them, kinda, time went by fast. because of the shooting anyone with a unlv id could get into this thing we have in vegas, called omegamart. it's like, i dunno, i don't want to say lame, it's like edm bro-core stuff though. but it's like cute and some of the things they had in there were really cool, i think, one room had this strobe that was actually a flash that was connected to a weird camera setup, and it was taking pics and projecting that on the walls in step w/ each flash. that was a good room. they had a pretty chillout room, with these etched glass panels, some ambient. they had some cute interactive things. i thought it would be awful but it was honestly a positive experience. they even had a music thing anyone could go mess with, a couple actually. letting people make music is always nice.
and i just spent a while messing with an old guitar sound that used that plugin, and put the new one in, in a way that hopefully satisfies me. anyways, i am too tired, i wanted to sleep earlier tonight but didn't. so:

William Edward Chiaiese was born on October 20, 1934 to John and Emily Chiaiese(key-ah-tze) in Dorchester , Massachusetts . The family later moved to Squantum , Mass. John changed the family name to Chase, understanding that the Italian name Chiaiese was both hard to spell and pronounce.
While Bill was growing up his parents felt that he needed to broaden his horizons and arranged for him to take violin lessons. Bill did not even touch the trumpet, until the middle of his high school years. A newspaper clipping dated 1956 pictures Bill listed as a Corporal in the 26th Yankee Infantry Division Band holding a bass drum. Bill's experience as a drummer changed his life and the lives of many others. During a St. Patrick's Day parade he had to lug his huge drum for five miles enduring the miserably cold pouring rain. It hurt so bad that he decided never to do it again, he asked his father to dig out his old trumpet for him.
Not long after switching to trumpet, Bill was playing first chair in the school orchestra and classical music was his main love. Early 1950's a neighbor coaxed Bill to attend a Stan Kenton concert with him. This was the band with Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Childers, Conte Condoli, etc. After that night, Bill was hooked on jazz and high note trumpet.
As you can tell, this time period in Bills life is hard to decipher. Bill was doing so much playing, and he became very good so quickly, that the dates are very confusing. Since Maynard left the Kenton Band and headed to Hollywood in 1953, Bill must have seen Kenton before then. I can only assume that he switched to the trumpet around 1951 at about the age of 16.
Boston Globe writer Ernie Santosuosso wrote about Bill in 1971, “Bill Chase has been experimenting with sounds all of his life. As a youngster in the Fields Corner community of Dorchester , he was intrigued by the drums. Since he didn’t own a set, he’d improvise with the aid of a couple of galvanized steel rubbish barrels.
Bill’s backyard became his bandstand as he beat out precocious rhythms atop the inverted barrels. The little Italian lady, who sat at her kitchen window, regarded Bill as a pet but voiced emphatic objections to his make-shift paraddidling on the barrels. So, when Bill’s father, who played trumpet, decided to retire his horn, the boy’s curiosity inevitably led him to the instrument and away from the barrel- house. The maturation process as a trumpeter had begun for Bill.
The ex-drummer put his horn to work for St. Ambrose’s Band, then for Boston English High, Berklee, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, and Woody Herman. The little old Italian lady was given special command performances in her kitchen and she almost lit a candle in thanksgiving for young Bill’s return to his barrels and rubbish deposits.”
He started playing his fathers old trumpet the summer before his junior year in high school and showed a natural aptitude for it. He soon joined a Drum and Bugle Corps, along with his school groups. This, was prior to his stint in the Boston National Guard where he said he wrote music and played trumpet in 1957. He served for six months in the guard band, which honed his talents as a trumpeter and arranger.
Chase played lead trumpet with Maynard Ferguson in 1958, Stan Kenton in 1959, and Woody Herman's Thundering Herd during the 1960s.
One of Chase's charts from this period, "Camel Walk", was published in the 1963 Downbeat magazine yearbook. From 1966 to 1970 he freelanced in Las Vegas, working with Vic Damone and Tommy Vig. In 1967 he led a six-piece band at the Dunes and Riviera Hotel where he was featured in the Frederick Apcar lounge production of Vive Les Girls, for which Chase arranged the music.
In 1971 he started a jazz rock band named "Chase" that mixed pop, rock, blues, and four trumpets.[5] The debut album Chase was released in April 1971. Chase was joined by Ted Piercefield, Alan Ware, and Jerry Van Blair, three jazz trumpeters who were adept at vocals and arranging. They were backed up by a rhythm section consisting of Phil Porter on keyboards, Angel South on guitar, Dennis Johnson on bass, and John "Jay Burrid" Mitthaur on percussion. Rounding out the group was Terry Richards, who was the lead vocalist on the first album. The album contains Chase's most popular song, "Get It On", released as a single that spent 13 weeks on the charts beginning in May 1971. The song features what Jim Szantor of Downbeat magazine called "the hallmark of the Chase brass—complex cascading lines; a literal waterfall of trumpet timbre and technique." The band received a Best New Artist Grammy nomination, but was edged out by rising star Carly Simon.
Chase released their second album, Ennea, in March 1972; the album's title is the Greek word for nine, a reference to the nine band members. The original lineup changed midway through the recording sessions, with Gary Smith taking over on drums and G. G. Shinn replacing Terry Richards on lead vocals. The third album, Pure Music, moved the band toward jazz. Two of the songs were written or co-written by Jim Peterik of the Ides of March, who also sings on the album, along with singer and bassist Dartanyan Brown.
Chase's work on a fourth studio album in mid-1974 came to an end on August 9, 1974. While en route to a scheduled performance at the Jackson County Fair, Chase died in the crash of a chartered twin-engine Piper Twin Comanche in Jackson, Minnesota, at the age of 39. The pilot and co-pilot were killed, as were keyboardist Wally Yohn, guitarist John Emma, and drummer Walter Clark.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE & THE OUTLINE: HIGHLIGHTS & SET LIST!
December 12, 2006
Tumblr media
Words can't really describe what The Outline & My Chemical Romance did to over 2,000 screaming fans on Monday night at the House of Blues in Vegas.
But since that's my job - here goes....
MCR fans started showing up about 36 hours before the show!  They waited oh-so-patiently (if a little obsessively) in the casino for the big moment.  15 minutes before doors opened, the excitement in the air was palpable as the crowd, packed in like cattle, prepared for the stampede.
Meanwhile, I won $6.75 playing the slots.
The Outline took the stage first, and totally wowed everyone with their brand of rough, aggressive rock 'n roll.  Their set up is the classic 2 guitars, bass, keys, drums - sometimes they're primal; sometimes they're straight-ahead, but always they rokk.
Lead singer Graham Fink strutted around the stage, slinging his hair like hash, and the crowd ate it all up.  He's an excellent frontman - good witty banter, he introduced songs & he plugged the band's name often.  At the end of their set, drummer Ryan Rabin threw his sticks into the ocean of people, and they were snapped up like a Barry Bonds' homerun ball.
Then the HOB crew set up the Black Parade banner in front of the stage.  As it rose higher & higher, so too did the ferocity of teenage screams - building into a "We want My Chem" - clap-clap-clapclapclap mantra.  Normally I wear earplugs at shows for the band - this time I had to protect my fragile ears from the rabid fans!
Finally - THE moment arrived and MCR took the stage.  GWay revealed, "I always wanted to be a Vegas showgirl - this will have to do!"
Of course, the packed house of 2k+ was singing along.  And when I say singing along, I mean they sang every word of every verse and every chorus of every song.  I'm completely serious.
The waltz-time "Mama" reminded me of jangling skeletons as Gerard pranced around like an underworld dandy, pale cheeks sucked in.  Meanwhile, security was lifting smooshed fans to safety, including a mother and her young son.
Gerard is truly a gifted and astonishing front man.  He's just got so much damn energy - like a band leader on PCP.  This was especially true on "Black Parade" as he orchestrated 2,000 hand thrusts en masse.  In fact, I think that guy has a hand gesture for every lyric.  Before launching into the chorus, he yelled, "Vegas - I wanna hear you sing every @#$%ing word!"  Mosh pockets and crowd surfing ensued, while Ray Toro shredded triumphantly ala Queen.
This was a perfect example of the amazingly seamless give-and-take of energy between MCR and their raving fans.  Its a chicken & egg thing, so its impossible to say whose energy is feeding whom, but the crowd was able to respond immediately to whatever vocal or rhythmic demands Gerard placed on them.  Its a good thing he didn't tell them to drink red koolaid.
I also noticed that he seems to have studied from the great front-men who came before him.  There was Jagger's Rooster Strut, Hendrix's Finger Worshipping on Bended Knees, Axl Rose's Mic Slither, among others.
BTW - I think there should be a Black Parade Workout Video.  You'd definitely get in shape, if you could keep up.  Plus, since you'd be wearing black - you'd sweat A WHOLE LOT.
Oh yeah - I need to give a shout-out to the really stellar lighting job at this show.  I don't know your name, but you do your job VERY WELL.
I'd also like to give my commendations to all the parents who came to the show with their younguns.  Many of you seemed just as fanatic about MCR as your kids!  If my parents had been that cool when I was a kid, my teen angst would've been severely mitigated.
MCR dedicated "I Don't Love You" to "our very special friend," Rob Cavallo.  Hopefully that wasn't a secret message.
Frank, Ray & Mikey were using wireless instruments.  This allowed for unprecedented stage thrashability.
Between the show and the encore, the fans sounded like the primate house at the zoo just before feeding time.  When MCR took the stage again, Gerard was feeling gracious:  "Thank you all so much for coming out and @#$%ing believing in this.  We've been doing this for 5 years and it doesn't get harder - it gets a whole lot more fun!"
The lighters were broken out for "Cancer", the first encore.  Its just so MEANINGFUL, man!
The show was definitely a black mass presided over by MCR, with the congregation reaching a feverish, ecstatic state.  I almost expected people to start babbling in tongues.
Afterwards, the Meet & Greet was like a well-oiled machine.  Maybe they've done this a few times?
1.  The End 2.  Dead! 3.  Disappear 4.  Not Okay 5.  Cemetery 6.  Mama 7.  The Black Parade 8.  I Don't Love You 9.  Venom 10.  Teenagers 11.  Give Em Hell 12.  House Of Wolves 13.  Famous 14.  Prison --> ENCORE 1.  Cancer 2.  Helena
OH - And dude that gave me the CD for his band THE SCIENCE......I handed it directly to Gerard Way.  He says he listens to every album he gets.  Good luck!
What'd y'all think of the show?!

"i only call you when it's half past five, the only time that i'll be by your side. i only love it when you touch me, not feel me, when i'm fucked up, that's the real me."
(—) ★ spotted!! peroz ‘phoenix’ balik on the cover of this week’s most recent tabloid! many say that the 32 year old looks like can yaman but i don’t really see it. while dj/club owner is known for being magnetic my inside sources say that they have a tendency to be conniving i swear, every time i think of them, i hear the hills by the weeknd {he/him / cismale} - penned by CANDICE, 26, CISFEMALE, SHE/HER

name: peroz ‘phoenix’ amir balik
age: thirty two
nicknames: nix, wolf
date of birth: october 30th, 1992
astrological sign: scorpio
place of birth: bel air, california
occupation: dj / club owner
label: the casanova
positive traits: focused, determined, charming, diligent
negative traits: manipulative, selfish, apathetic, conniving
characters/celebrities he’s like: dennis reynolds from it’s always sunny in philadelphia, chuck bass from gossip girl, klaus mikaelson from the vampire diaries,  john mayer
career claim : calvin harris
𝓫𝓲𝓸𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓹𝓱𝔂
born and raised in las vegas, nevada to a restauranter for a father and a celebrity party planner for a mother, it’s safe to say that peroz’s life has been nothing but one, big giant party.
with his father having a chain of luxury restaurants on the vegas strip in all of the most luxurious hotels and his mother rubbing elbows with the rich and famous, peroz fell in love with the night life far earlier than he probably should have.
workaholics and always working on their latest big project left peroz to his own devices more often than not - and a kid with money and nothing but time on his hands was a dangerous thing in sin city.
wickedly smart, but never applying himself in school, he used those smarts for other things - selling drugs on the low, making fake ids for his friends, bribing his way into the hottest nightclubs when he was underage, always with a knack to scheme and lie his way into whatever he wanted.
he’s always had laser focus, liking to turn the mundane into something extraordinary, and when he wasn’t running around the vegas strip causing trouble, he was in his room, headphones in, making remake mixes to some of the world’s most popular songs.
he began making youtube videos of his music when he realized that college wasn’t an option for him, considering he was rarely in school, and his videos and remixes garnished millions and millions of views
using his mother’s connections, he began to get djing gigs at all the most popular nightclubs on the vegas strip, eventually being a headliner himself.
partying and hanging out with celebrities every single night was exactly the life he wanted for himself. he craved a constant good time, forever wanting to be a peter pan boy that never grew up, and he soon realized that this career path was it.
instead of just making mixes, he began producing songs for popular artists and every time he did, they ended up at the top of the charts, which caused him to move to los angeles and take on a celebrity status, under his stage name, ‘phoenix’
never wanting anyone to tell him what to do, he started his own record label - that literally only produces his music and collaborations with other artists called ‘fly guy records.’
now, not only is he one of the biggest djs in the world, but he’s also an entrepreneur, and has opened two nightclubs - sound nightclub in downtown los angeles & hakkasan in los vegas.
there’s not a humble bone in his body, a true nepo baby who’s gotten nothing but praise for doing the bare minimum his entire life, he’s used his clout and fame to get him anything, and anyone he wants.
he’s a non-committal kind of man, bored easily and treats women like they’re disposable, but will put on the charming act to get what he wants out of them.
sickly sweet to get what he wants, once he does, a switch flips and he can become the most cold person you’ve ever met, but he simply doesn’t care - the world is his chessboard and everyone is merely a pawn to him in this game that he calls life.

✨ My favourite songs of 2022
•Moonbyul feat. Seori - 머리에서 발끝까지 (Shutdown) •Simon Goff feat. Katie Melua - Tbilisi Airport •Alligatoah - Nachbeben •Poldoore feat. ASM - Hourglass •Sunmi - 열이올라요 (Heart Burn) •Vega Trails - Epic Dream •Stromae - La solassitude •Florence and the machine - Daffodil •Danielle Ponder - Fray
(Thoughts and sources below the cut)
Okay, where do I begin?
I feel like reviewing the past year is over and done with. New things are already happening and people want to look forward. Well, at least that’s my impression really.
But why not take the time to reminisce?
Of course it was hard to pick the most favourite songs, and often the ones I pick represent an entire album than just the single song. Which is why I sometimes used the imagery of one video for another song. (x) stands for the source of the gif, often the mv. (song) is only mention if the source differs from the song itself.
Moonbyul feat. Seori - 머리에서 발끝까지 (Shutdown) (x)
Well, sit down, lean back, and let Moonbyul sing you this little chill song. From head to toe is the Korean title of this song. With its cosy visuals and intimate lyrics ‘Shutdown’ tells a story of a sapphic encounter. Seori, with her airy and delicate voice, leads you through the chorus. Shutdown is the single from Moonbyul’s Mini Solo Album “Lunatic”. If you’re interested in a little hip hop infused song, I can also recommend G999 by Moonbyul and Mirani from the same album.
Simon Goff feat. Katie Melua - Tbilisi Airport (x) | (song)
We’ll stay in the light and airy mood. Strings and little guitar melodies surround you now. Katie Melua voice carries questions about the past and future (”I was here” | “Should I move here?”). Tbilisi Airport is the first song of her new album “Aerial Objects”, where she collaborated with the violinist and composer Simon Goff.
Seeing that Katie Melua had a new album out, was a pleasant surprise. I always loved her voice and with each new album she’s finding ways to finetune it, for it to shine brighter. The beautiful string melodies, which accompany her singing throughout the album, elevate it to something magical, and definitely something hard to capture in words.
Alligatoah - Nachbeben (x)
Let’s disrupt the quiet tones now. A deep bass and electric guitar tones, paired with hard hitting rap lines introduce us to this German rap song. In the lyrics Alligatoah confronts us with the attitude of ‘Everything is fine’ ‘I can consume more, work more, watch more.’ He juxtaposes his lyrics with visuals. In the video he embodies a personified dark subconsciousness, that comes to hunt us in our sleep. (”Eines Tages, sagen sie, werden mal deine Träume wahr. Ich hoffe nicht, denn ich träume schwarz - gute Nacht” | They say, some day your dreams will come true. I hope not, because my dreams are dark. Good night!)  His caricature villian reminding us, that we can’t shake off the bad things in life as easily as we like to pretend.
Poldoore feat. ASM (x)
A classic hip hop beat combined with a good flow. A little gem.
Sunmi - 열이올라요 (Heart Burn) (x)
In ‘Heart Burn’ Sunmi is displaying an enticing contrary. While speaking very politely and respectful in her lyrics, in the video she's appearing as a luring siren, seducing men throughout the centuries. What seems to be an empowering role is also a very lonely one. Once again, Sunmi isn't afraid to present us a complex array of ideas in her lyrics and images.
Vega Trails - Epic Dream (x)
The jazz duo, consisting of double-bassist and composer Milo Fitzpatrick and saxophonist Jordan Smart, put out their first collaborative album last year. 'Epic Dream' is their most elaborate track. Here they are move expertly from an easy pace to a vivid back and forth. The two instruments resonating in the large church, where they are recording, making them sound as full and large as the building itself.
Stromae - La Solassitude (x)
I'll keep this one short.
La solassitude is beautiful, heart wrenching, and wonderfully honest.
(If there's someone who hasn't listened to Stromae’s album ‘Multitude’ yet, go ahead and do so! It's worth it.)
Florence and the Machine - Daffodil (x) | (song)
Have you ever heard someone be upset about life giving them hope? That's this song for me!
Danielle Ponder - Fray (x) | (song)
I'm sorry, Danielle, that this gif didn't turn out well. You deserve better!
The singer with the extraordinary voice also has an extraordinary biography. The lawyer decided to turn her passion for singing into a full-time job. The topic of injustice finds its way into her music as well.  She sings about empowerment, joy and endurances. Fray is her most personal song, and although ‘So Long’ is brilliant too, this one just went straight into my heart!
You can read more about her, here.
(I apologize for any mistakes in my writing. At this point I just want this over and done with.)

You may know singer and dancer #NOÉ but today you will get to know him on a whole new level as he sits down in #Seventeen’s hot seat to answer #17Questions. Learn what makes Noe tick, his talents, hobbies and more in his interview with #Seventeen.
Tumblr media
‘Hello, this is Noe and I’m here today with Seventeen to answer 17 questions. If you guys didn’t know already my newest mini album Broadcast Symphony is out and if you haven’t already, go check it out.’
What is one thing people will be surprised to learn about you?
‘I think it would have to be that I'm a nice person because I do get a lot of comments about how I never smile or always have my resting face on. I don't mean to look grumpy or upset it's just the way my face is when I don't show emotion.’
What is something you'll never regret?
‘I'll never regret becoming a singer. Because I'm making music for people to enjoy. Though there are hard times when I feel like giving up I remember that I have people who like my music and listen to it. It makes me happy every day to know that.
What was your favorite place to visit so far?
‘I haven’t been everywhere quite yet but I think my favorite place so far has to be Las Vegas. Because of how bright and beautiful it is at night. It’s not something I can see quite often especially since I live mostly in South Korea and when I do visit, America it's to go back to Canada to visit my family. So yeah Las Vegas is where it's at.’
I Never_____
‘Can not play my guitar. I can play both acoustic and bass guitar fluently. When I have nothing to do, I just play or just pluck strings. It doesn’t matter what time of night it could be. I’ll still play my guitar. It really inspires me to create something new like new music or just a new melody. It’s what keeps me going when I’m bored.’
As far as music goes, who would be your dream collab?
‘If I could collaborate with anybody, I think it would be Paak Anderson. For the past few months or so I have been listening to his music because it’s good. His music is something I have found myself listening to for the past few months. Listening to when I’m doing something like cooking, cleaning, or even walking my dog. It’s music that keeps me calm and relaxed. So I wouldn’t mind collaborating with him because he makes good music and music you can vibe to.
What advice do you have for 17-year-old Beckett?
‘Beckett don't give up. I know life may seem hard now, but I promise it’s all worth it in the end. You’ll do big things and go many places in life that you want to go. But for now, keep up the good work and don’t let anyone get you down because you are you and you do what’s right for you not what others want of you. fighting’
What is your favorite fragrance note?
‘I know I may sound basic because of this but it has to be vanilla. Which is kind of weird since my mom while me and sister grew up always had the house smelling like lavender most of the time but I find comfort in the scent of vanilla rather than lavender, but on occasion, I will do a lavender fragrance if I have to. ‘
What is your favorite thing about performing?
‘I never could give a reason why but it would have to be the thrill of it. I have been doing this since I was 16 years old, but it never gets old. Being on a stage and seeing the faces of the people who enjoy your music is something that fills my heart with love and joy. It also gives me an adrenaline rush, just being on the stage itself because I get to dance, sing and just be me on that stage.’
What would be the turning point of your career?
‘Hands-down it would have to be that I got to redebut as a soloist. I spent three years being in a K-pop group with my members only for us to disband and for me to become a soloist. It’s insane really. I never thought I would get a chance to make my music and perform on the stage by myself, which at first was uncomfortable because I was so used to performing along with my group members. But it fills my heart to know that, I get to continue making music.
What’s the best thing your parents have taught you?
‘I think it has to be to be the best person and do what you love. Doing what I love wouldn’t have got me to where I am today. Because I am doing what I love and have been doing what I love for almost 6 years now. And being the best person I can be without anyone looking because not everything you do is going to be seen by everyone so you just have to do it even if no one is watching.
What’s your most used app?
‘My most used app would have to be Instagram because of the fact I like to post photos on there. But if you go to my Instagram account there isn't a lot of posts on there because I only started getting into posting a lot of photos. I only use the app to post photos of my travels and pictures of my dog bean so yeah. If I had to choose another app though, it would have to be Vlive because I do like to go live and talk to my fans who if you don’t know already is very goofy.
I Always______
‘Tend to forget things quite easily. That’s why it’s nice to have a manager because he always reminds me when I have a schedule or a meeting coming up because I cannot remember anything for the life of me. That’s why my friends and family can never seem to trust me with remembering things. And I’m sorry because of that.’
Describe yourself in 3 words
‘Hardheaded. Because a lot of times I don’t tend to follow directions really well and so I’ve been told this more times than I can count. Quiet because of the fact that I don’t talk unless I feel like talking which is not a lot because I like the awkward tension. And last but not least would have to be charming mainly because people say I’m charismatic which I don’t really see most of the time. So yeah.
What music do you have repeat right now?
‘Slow Dancing In The Dark by Joji. I was introduced to the song by my sister, who is an avid listener of his songs. Overall, the song has been stuck in my head because it’s really good. It’s a song I never have any trouble listening to or just doing my hobbies too.
I Want______
‘I want to eat. I am quite hungry. I only had a doughnut this morning so what I want to do right now is to eat. Perhaps a burger or pizza. I don’t really know what I’m in the mood for because all I know is that I’m hungry.
What was your most memorable onstage performance?
‘My most memorable onstage performance would have to be when I debuted with Luvaphobic and people were cheering us on from the crowd. That was the moment I knew I wanted to do this, and be someone who people could listen to for comfort or relaxation.
If you weren't a musician, what would you be doing?
‘If I weren’t a musician, I would be either playing sports in college or be working at my mom’s bakery because I do like to make sweets and things like that. But I am in college now trying to get a degree in music and let me just tell you it is quite hard but I’m doing it to make my parents proud.’
‘Thank you so much for coming along with me for this interview and seeing me answer these questions. And thank you Seventeen for inviting me. My new album Broadcast Symphony is out, if you haven’t already go, show it love it will be greatly appreciated. And don’t forget to like and subscribe to Seventeen for more like this video. That’s it, bye.’

No Guarantees CD Review, May 2005
The Avalon Motel is located in Saugus, Massachusetts on 1529 Broadway. It has 26 rooms and the prices range from 51 to 100 dollars a night. In one of these rooms, Number 9 to be exact, lives the bassless trio My Own Worst Enemy. Not that much goes on in Saugus--some car shows, maybe some barbeques and well, there's a miniature golf place also located on Broadway. But for the most part the band members have to fend for themselves, killing time in their room playing cards, scrabble, and cuddling up with each other in bed. Togetherness is a good thing for a band, up to a point. So, when it all gets too much and that old ennui starts overtaking the room, the drummer drags his snare in from the car, the other two strap on their guitars, and they chase it away with music. What comes out sounds at times like a hybrid of X and the Patti Smith Group, which isn't surprising as the band has been known to while away the late night hours with records by those same artists, as well as in dreams of Grant Hart, Mia Zapata, Nico, and escaping once and for all the dusty doldrums of the Avalon Motel. No Guarantees CD Review, Summer 2005
Best Boston debut in a long time--in many ways evokes the golden age of classic co-ed indie rock bands: Love Child, Yo La Tengo, Eric's Trip, etc--the boy sings a song, the girl sings the next one, and they always sing together. It's the pinnacle of rock band equality--but also codependency and this album makes love sound like one long drink of gin...partly thanks to Sue's Jersey Queen vocals (one of the nicer things to happen to female vocalizing in the name o' rock since Denise James). Lack of bass player gives them a skeletal Sleater-Kinney clank. This album evokes a harsh 70's reality...mainly of my parents telling me to go play in the traffic while they did the "jungle boogie" on the couch. (Joe S. Harrington)

High Praise
Sometimes we get email! This one's from August 2006
"...I don't know when I'll get the opportunity to speak with you, so i thought I'd share a thought with you...Every time I see you guys play, I'm constantly reminded of that Athens, GA Inside/Out compilation record that the guys in R.E.M. put out years ago. You folks simply seem to dispense with convention by throwing it out the window, with glorious results. Your music is a really refreshing change from what's fed us these days, and it gives me a lot of hope. Please continue to rock." PS...I like the new drummer, he plays like Chris Mars! Live Review, November 2006
The Kirkland Cafe, Somerville, MA 10/14/06, opening for Lyres/Lars Vegas/Frank Rowe
I arrive before 9:30, but still miss Frank Rowe (Classic Ruins). I've missed Frank three times recently. Sorry, Frank. At least the club is playing the Classic Ruins CD while My Own Worst Enemy is setting up. Guitarist Steve says into the mic, "Has anyone seen our bass player?" He's joking, because My Own Worst Enemy doesn't have a bassist. Tonight there are two guitarists, one drummer, and a special guest percussionist in the evenly-distributed- gender band (the female side of the band is talented and pretty and the guys have that indie quality). They play driving garage rock - few chords, easy melodies, and interesting stops thrown in to keep listeners on their toes. Sue handles most of the lead vocals with good energy and an honest delivery. Steve is the leadless lead guitarist while also providing the bass lines. Drummer A.J. and percussionist Lindsay are upbeat and on the beat, and I like it that everyone sings. Standout songs include Come On, Snowflake, and Turn It On. (T Max)

The Noise
Live Review, February 2007
The Abbey Louge, Somerville, MA 01/11/07, opening for The In Out/Grey Does Matter/Brett Rosenberg Problem
It's Thursday night and I'm having my socks rocked off at the Abbey. I've never been here before, actually, and, while there is a crowd of frat boys hanging out in the corner and making me very nervous, there is also a solid Jack and Coke in my hand making me very, very happy. Enter My Own Worst Enemy, comprised of Sue, Steve and A.J. Yeah, that's right, just three. Sue sports a Courtney Love-style semiformal dress and enormous black boots, and she splits the vocals and guitar with Steve, whose fashionably floppy hair makes me want to hug him immediately. A.J. on the drums breaks out some admirable vocals on a Guided By Voices cover; he also gets a thumbs up for excellent use of the cowbell. The songwriting is strong and earnest, the sound is remarkably full for a band without a bass player, and, overall, they make me want to dance. (Danielle Cotter)

John Lloyd Young - Jukebox Superhero In Vegas
Not all heroes wear capes.
Sometimes they wear a suit and tie as they rescue classic songs, using the power of the microphone to make them fresh and relevant for an audience of all ages.
John Lloyd Young did just that at The Space in Las Vegas this past Friday evening, for those of us there in person, and for others livestreaming from all over the world. It's a special magic that knows no bounds.
He came out like a thunderbolt to open his Jukebox Hero set with "Lightning Strikes", in signature shades that added a little bit of mystery...a quality of all good superheroes. He then moved into another side of this set with "Oh What A Night", with everyone singing along and feeling the joy.
JLY explained that Jukebox Hero meant a couple of different things. One was that he would be performing popular songs from the past that we all used to put a quarter in the jukebox to play, to pay tribute to the originals while doing them his way. The other takes its meaning from the term "jukebox musicals" - with Jersey Boys being the most successful of the genre. Considering that JLY won a Tony Award for his brilliant portrayal of Frankie Valli, it makes him a jukebox hero of the highest degree.
Accompanying him this evening was the outstanding band comprised of Keith Hubacher on bass, Mark Ferratt on drums, and musical director extraordinaire Chris Lash on piano.
We were treated to plenty of hits from both sides of this coin. Classics like "Hurt So Bad" and "Ooh Baby Baby" also came with stories about singing for/with Little Anthony and Smokey Robinson, and showed off opposite ends of the spectrum of his incredible vocal range. "In The Still Of The Night" and "Show And Tell" also displayed not only the versatility of his voice, but the depth of his emotional range as well.
JLY performed a classic from another singer with signature shades...his powerful "Only The Lonely" would make Roy Orbison proud. He also did a much lesser known Orbison track called "Say No More", tearing your heart out as he went through every emotion possible.
There was also a plethora of Jersey Boys material, along with stories from filming the movie and more. These included "Big Girls Don't Cry", "My Eyes Adored You", and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"...which JLY makes special every single time, as only he can.
Among our favorites that he also performed were the soulful "Since I Fell For You" and his compelling version of "Unchained Melody". A recent addition, "The Air That I Breathe", is both powerful and ethereal at the same time. The title is ironic, since JLY's rendition takes your breath away.
No show would be complete without JLY making his way through the audience, and we were all thrilled to be personally serenaded with "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" and "Cara Mia". Running around the entire room singing takes a lot of stamina, but he makes it look and sound effortless. And we definitely appreciate the effort!
We closed out the evening with "Sherry", but in a different, unforgettable way. Four local Las Vegas voice students joined JLY on stage to back him up as the Four Seasons. I'm not sure who was having more fun - JLY, the students, or the audience! They all have incredible voices, and I see bright futures ahead for them.
So heads or tails, either side of this coin is a winner. Save up your quarters to see John Lloyd Young perform wherever and wherever you can. His superpowers with a song will leave you astounded, completely satisfied...and wanting to be in the venue where it happens every single time.
