Made a regional variant togepi line based on various glitch pokemon (bad egg, decamark, and missingno, + the shiny’s colors are based on Q)
Togepi, the Bad Egg Pokemon: ghost type, a bringer of bad luck
Togetic, the Question Pokemon: ghost/flying type, evolves with high friendship. It makes strange things happen wherever it roams.
Togelitch, the Corruption Pokemon: ghost/psychic type, evolves when exposed to a pomeg berry. Capable of temporarily warping reality. Despite its psychic typing, it’s incredibly hard to communicate with, and its motives as it destabilizes reality are entirely unknown. Maybe it’s just trying to make people happy?
Thought process under the cut!!
These guys are based on the pomeg berry glitch in gen 3 (from a video I saw where someone used it to train an egg to level 100), which is why Togelitch evolves the way it does + why they're ghost types, since curse is an important part of the setup. Personality-wise, they're more inspired by bad eggs being used as anti-cheat -- Togelitch is trying to make its trainer happy by doing things like duping items, speeding up leveling/egg hatching, helping them find rare pokemon, but these attempts just leave things a little bit broken. Because it evolves with high friendship, this line is very affectionate, but Togepi and Togetic feel bad for the misfortune they bring and try to make up for it as Togelitch. Their visual inspiration comes more from the various forms of missingno (colors and pixel markings obviously, but Togelitch is also based on the ghost sprite), decamark, and Q (in the case of the shiny)!
Have some bonus sketches from when I figuring out the designs

i am back in my "rabidly researching the deeper mechanics of the Pokemon series" era
those videos on the complicated things in pokemon and pokeblocks have made me quickly realize the community at large has figured a lot of new things out- while there's still a fair number of mysteries!!
i need to dig into glitches again and see if there's any new research about glitch pokemon in the 3D games.. (i kind of doubt it but i'm hopeful LOL)

so everyone and their mother already knows about missingno and whatnot but you all need to look at the hundreds of other glitch pokemon on bulbepedia because some of these really something else

while these may not look all that impressive at first hand, its very important to know that they all come with their own stats. and let me tell you.

they should put these guys in the base games.

A spare time project I've been working on. I can absolutely admit I'm not great at coding, but I'm learning my way around RPG Maker XD and so far I've been working on a side project porting Glitch Pokemon into the engine.
These are some of the edits I've made so far. Not sure if this will end up being a full playable game yet, but I've got some ideas! Credit to @newworldenderdragon for sprite work on the ▶A and for help with the scenario here!
If there is any interest in a project like this let me know btw! I'd be happy to share progress about it.

MISSINGNO - The Null-Bird Pokémon - Missingno is thought to be the first glitch Pokémon discovered. At the time, it was considered mythical, a mysterious and unknown Pokémon that corrupted the data of computers it was registered to and preformed miracles. It is now known to be the most common and least destructive glitch Pokémon in the world, and can be found rarely on Kanto shorelines by specific people or extremely commonly in a different world.
Missingno is rumored to be a ghost of some kind, but lacks the ghost typing. This rumor stems from some types of Missingno looking like long-dead Pokémon for unknown reasons, and Missingno occasionally making sounds that match no other known Pokémon. Missingno can be anywhere from 3 ft tall to 10 ft tall, making it one of the smaller known glitch Pokémon.
Wouldn’t be a glitch design blog without Missingno, have an interpretation of it as an early game bird type from Glitch City

Weird Pokémon theory. I just noticed that maybe, just maybe, the Dreepy line might be a subtle reference to MissingNo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean sure, it's obviously a Diplocaulus, and I really don't know why ghosts of extinct animals are such a rare trope. The only other examples I can think of off the top of my head are that one episode of Love, Death and Robots and Darcy Little Badgers beautiful novel Elatsoe.
Tumblr media
But when you look at Dreepys design, it seems to be something else. Back in the day, MissingNo. had two glitched-out sprites and three sprites that were taken from elsewhere in the game. It's those three:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two are fossils of extinct Pokémon, just like Dreepy's Diplocaulus, and one is a ghost. So in a way, MissingNo. was the original extinct ghost Pokémon. Also the Diplocaulus head shape is pretty similar to Kabutops, while the Dreepy families other type is dragon, which isn't Aerodactyl's type, but come on, it's clearly a dragon.
Tumblr media
Also shout-out to another ghost dinosaur that's not part of the above-mentioned trope because it's the ghost of an extant species of dinosaur. Come to think of it, for a series so heavily focused on dinosaurs, the Super Mario World/Yoshi's Island series features a remarkable lack of stereotypical prehistoric tropes...
