Inspo for my next handmade project
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After my first handmade skirt I got excited and now I want to make a full OP ▼・ᴥ・▼
This is something that made me fall in love with lolita since the very beginning: the strive for creativity and experimentation. I once again want to use the fabric of a garment that I no longer use to create a new and unique piece!
Maybe I'm getting a little too excited, after all I've never done a full dress from scratch before, so I'll be kind to myself if I make some mistakes and learn from them. (✪㉨✪)
I'm still new to lolita, so getting brand pieces and filling my wardrobe has been hard since I don't have a lot of money (I work selling my art and it doesn't pay off much lol). I've been buying clothing from local lolita brands since their more accessible for me, but I think that learning to sew it's gonna save me from bankruptcy :,-)
I'm gonna follow some instructions that I found on the internet, I plan on documenting the process so I will share the tutorial that I'm gonna follow when I finish it in a future blog. Wish me luck! (♡ω♡ ) ~♪

have you given any beginner tips on lolita before? i've been interested in it for years but have yet to start getting pieces and wanna hear some advice
i don't believe i've written anything like a formal guide for beginners, i typically just answer questions as i get them!
if you want to start building up a wardrobe i would first suggest compiling images of coords and street snaps you'd like to take inspiration from to help build a vision of the personal style you wish to aim for. you'll save a lot of money researching different styles and which pieces are better quality before you do any shopping. i do have a general shopping guide from this old ask!
skimming magazines like GLB, kera, or catalogs of brands you take interest in are good for finding inspo. if you'd rather not have physical copies, lolitahistory is a good resource for finding scans of them online (good for some general reading/research too if you take interest in that. i'd also recommend livejournal and old blogs for that!) how you'd like to save them is up to you! whether it be a blog, a pinterest board, a personal journal/log, or just a folder on your computer (that's how i do it myself!) though for bookmarking items you want to hunt for in the future i recommend using lolibrary's wishlist function.
i understand this answer is quite vague, so if you have any specific question feel free to ask!

is it really so hard for people not to put massive spoilers in the TITLES of their youtube videos?
Videos which get recommended to people at random with no control over what they see? Giving people spoilers out of nowhere that they can't prevent without totally ignoring the HI3rd community?
Because it's REALLY f'ing annoying to spend weeks trying to avoid spoilers for what's been one of my favorite story arcs of HI3rd... and then seeing a totally random spoiler out of nowhere that I had zero way to avoid. I mean sure I could just not use YouTube at all, but for four weeks straight? ffs
I didn't even get to finish the Seele concert web event cause I started it late without realizing it was one of those types of "you need to do it over several different days" events. So I think "Okay I can just look up a video playthrough of it". But of course I forget that YouTube LOVES recommending videos, and that recommended videos are usually the click-bait attention-grabbing videos. Y'know, like the ones where people put massive spoilers in the title.
I understand that it's normal for there to be spoilers with anything. But the problem I have is when HI3rd's CN server is 4 weeks ahead of us so while they're experiencing the story as it is supposed to be experienced, the rest of us get the joy of dealing with spoilers leaking through the next four weeks as people play the CN version, upload stuff to youtube, it gets translated, and then spreads through the GLB community.
When I play Genshin or HSR I can easily dodge the spoilers for a day or two, but with HI3rd it's so exhausting trying to do it for four weeks straight. Because it only takes a fraction of a second of scanning a video title to realize that the words you just read were a huge spoiler. One that you've been suspecting, that you've been trying to avoid, that you've been telling yourself "maybe it isn't actually what it seems".
It especially upsets me because this spoiler is something I genuinely would have been surprised by. The way the story has been going, I would NOT have seen this plot twist coming. I would have loved to see that sudden twist, to learn the truth and respond to it. But I can't enjoy that nearly as much knowing what's going to happen.
At the end of the day it's not too big of a deal because I know I'll still enjoy the presentation & delivery of the story, and there will be lots of details that haven't been spoiled for me yet. But it's just frustrating knowing that this moment could have been one of the best parts of the entire story arc, a story arc that has been one of my all-time favorites in HI3rd. One that's had me invested so much, with a character I've grown to care so much about. Knowing what happens with this character is just disappointing.
I just wish people had a single, tiny sliver of consideration for others, to be a little more careful with how they talk about the upcoming story. I get why they use clickbaity or attention-grabbing titles, I know that's what the algorithm recommends. I can't entirely blame them for that. But in the end it was still their choice to toss the spoiler up there.
As much as it'd suck for the people who like to plan ahead for the gacha, I just wish the CN and GLB servers could be synced up already. Put us on the same release schedule so story content is released at the roughly same time for everyone, everywhere. I know most people won't want that; or at least most hardcore players & f2p players that want to try and optimize their pulls won't like it. But it'd sure as hell make the story more enjoyable if avoiding spoilers was a matter of hours or days of being cautious instead of FOUR WEEKS.

acquisition: gothic and lolita bible 20
Hello! Some time has passed since I last posted ^^’ I haven’t had the mental space for it because of university, work, and life obligations. In the end, I was only able to wear lolita twice during the whole semester :( Thankfully, working lots of hours at my job meant that I could at least keep adding to my wardrobe (another post about that coming soon)!
Recently, I purchased volume 20 of the Gothic & Lolita Bible ^^ It’s my first one, but I already know that I’m going to be obsessed with collecting these. It came with a pattern that tells you how to make an Angelic Pretty dress! I can’t sew yet, but I’m excited to make it one day. I also added an image of the loveliest Innocent World OP... makes me want to look for it (sorry for the amateur scans T^T )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also woke up early today to bid on a copy of GLB volume 3. I only paid ~$17 for it on JP Yahoo Auctions and it still has the BTSSB heart apron pattern ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ I found the listing by chance, so I feel very lucky <3

WEEK 9 Workflow Testing
(test point cloud vr animation)
Through the lengthy and complex process of 3D scanning, converting to point cloud, creating animation, rendering to VR video, and finally publishing, I've encountered various challenges. However, I've confirmed that my initial project concept is achievable, and I've learned the necessary software, steps, and time required. This process has been quite demanding, and there is millions of times that I want to quite because of the geometry node and operational steps. Some difficulties I've faced include:
1. Problem: Blender, even with the Point Cloud Visualizer plugin, fails to display the colors of PLY files correctly.
Solution: Probably due to the incorrect import method in Blender; the correct approach is to use "add" instead of "import."
Tumblr media
2. Problem: In Blender, PLY files cannot be converted to a geometry node for further editing.
Solution: No direct solution found. I employed an alternative method by manually adding geometry nodes to create a point cloud from a GLB file.
3. Problem: Lengthy rendering time in Blender for animations.
Solution: Utilize GPU instead of CPU for rendering. Additionally, reduce the “resolution scale” or set the “step” to 2 for lower-quality previews before rendering the final full-resolution animation.
Tumblr media
4. Problem: Blender renders VR videos as PNG files instead of a complete video file.
Solution: Create a sequence in Premiere Pro (PR) using all the PNG frames to render a complete video. Rendering frames as PNG has the advantage of preserving previous progress in case of clash or pause, allowing continuous rendering.
Tumblr media
5. Problem: Visible black boundaries in VR videos created from Blender-rendered PNG sequences in PR.
Tumblr media
Solution: Ensure consistency between PR's sequence settings and Blender's render settings. A more simple and direct way is right click on the clip, and choose Scale to Frame Size.
Tumblr media
6. Problem: Incompatibility of Open Brush files exported in GLB format with Mac computers when using standalone VR headsets.
Solution: Create an Open Brush account and link it to a Google account to sync/back up all the media files to Google Drive, including desired GLB file. Then downloaded it from Google Drive on the Mac computer.

(OpenBrush model download and open in Blender using GLB file format)
Based on these challenges and solutions, I've documented a detailed workflow for creating a point cloud animation, following tutorial links:
1. Obtain a base model through 3D scan using Scaniverse (free, supports multiple formats) and Sitescape (for larger buildings, supports PLY format only).
2. Export 3d scan to GLB format, import into Blender, and follow tutorials to create nodes for point cloud and transformations:
youtube
3. Add noise for ambiance and lighting effects, referring to specific timestamps 57 and 60 minutes in tutorial videos:
youtube
4. Set up camera shots, animate using keyframes, and employ plugins like Camera Shakify for handheld motion effects:
manually add:
youtube
use plugin(recommend): https://github.com/EatTheFuture/camera_shakify
5. Render VR animation frames in Blender and compile them into a video sequence in PR.
youtube
6. Edit VR video in PR as per Canvas module course guidelines, or for headset editing, refer to Adobe's VR support documentation.
7. Preview and check for seamlessness in Vimeo before finalizing the project.
Currently, my concerns is still about Blender's slow rendering speed and seamless transition between clips. I plan to discuss these issues and explore previewing methods and final presentation options with my instructor next week.

Photogrammetry
Polycam
The technology that allows us to create 3D models of real objects from photographs of this same object. As simple as it sounds, photographs are taken of the object in a certain way and then, using free software, these photos are converted into a 3D model
Tumblr media
By taking pictures (or videos) of the object from different perspectives and under constant lighting, the specialized software is able to find representative or characteristic points of the model that are repeated in all the photos.
Using key point extraction techniques, the software is able to infer the distance between these points through the separation between them in different photos, thus creating a cloud of characteristic points. Finally, this point cloud is converted into a mesh, which can be processed or cleaned to be printed in 3D or included in virtual representations.
1. Take images
2. Import into photogrammetry software
3. Create 3d model in photogrammetry software
Shooting Images for Photogrammetry
High quality: The quality of model is directly related to the quality of photos
Enough light to properly expose the image
Make sure the photos are as sharp as possible and have a deep depth of field (i.e. higher aperture)
Make sure photos overlap by at least 60% (The more photos the better)
When photographing move the camera between shots. Do not pivot on one point (The software needs to recognize vertical or horizontal movement between photos)
Optimizing Your Scans
Decimate, decimate, decimate. Photogrammetry software often produces models that have millions of polygons. You will need to reduce that poly count by decimating the geometry. This can be done in the native photogrammetry software or in a 3D editing tool like Blender. For a model to run smoothly on a mobile device look to decimate to 50,000 or 100,000 polys.
Textures can drain the processing power of your scene. As a general rule of thumb, keep your texture counts low and between 2 and 4k resolution. Ideally, you will want to produce 2k textures to run even more smoothly, but you can lose some definition. In most scenarios, this is totally fine. You can also resize textures after model creation by converting the .glb file into a .gltf.  Lastly, in the process of decimating models, or because you could not capture the entire environment, you may be left with some holes in your texture. In these cases, the clone tool

May I ask 21, 25 and 26 for the lolita ask game ? 🐰
Of course! Thank you 😄
21: do you have a favorite brand mascot?
I love AP’s older bunny mascots (Bunny-Chan, Marshmallow Bunny) and Baby’s Milk-Chan (ofc I love the bunnies). I think Bunny-Chan is a lot cuter than Lyrical bunny, tbh, and I really want to collect the Dressing Up Bunny-Chan pieces!
25: favorite thing about the fashion?
I love how much the community cares about research, documentation, and preservation of lolita history- I think it’s incredible that you can look up almost any piece on lolibrary, or GLB scans, old LJ posts, etc. To someone like me who loves researching my interests it’s so special and unique. I love collecting GLB’s and adding to lolibrary myself as well!
26: least favorite thing about the fashion?
The way people treat me over it sometimes. Basically every lolita has had a bad experience (or several) with people treating you poorly because of the fashion, either being rude or sexualizing you or even just taking photos without permission. That’s pretty much the only bad thing about it to me.
