I'd listen to you ramble about Sunstreaker. Because I know nothing about him but you seem to like him and that made me curious.
hi i am so terribly sorry to be replying so late, mental health is a bitch lately but heres my questionably comprehensive rambling about Sunstreaker
He's a very simple character compared to like majority of main autobots from g1, he's a vain pretty boy who thinks he's better and prettier than everyone around him, which is not even exactly untrue, but you're not really gonna go and tell him he's wrong. it's been a staple of his persona throughout all the stories he's appeared in to my knowledge. my interest especially arose when he was a central piece of some idw comics.
i made a whole small piece of writing about him months back, but essentially, what i gathered from very little he has in a whole scope of things, is that he was not a good person. period. he was a law enforcer who fancied watching mechs fight to death. he wanted to join megatron on the arena. he's lavishing in the limelight and he's not unwilling to stomp down anyone who doesn't meet his expectations. that "someone" happened to be his own brother who stopped him from joining megatron.
i always find sibling dramas interesting for personal reasons, and i relate to sunstreaker a lot as a person who had to learn to grow and be better, not just everyone but my sibling first. sunstreaker underwent an extremely traumatic experience that was worse than death - but you could also consider it the death of "Him" as a person. he was merged with a species completely unlike his own. he was forced to be connected to the copies of him while immobilized and in pain. he begged to be killed only to be forcefully saved.
his grudge against humanity is understandable, and his betrayal was something that could've been the end of his dignity. he was ready to accept death in self-sacrifice, still in pain and turmoil over what he had done to his team, to his brother.
he's the kind of character who you aren't supposed to really like. he's not a good person, even if his intentions are for the better - he's doing it to stroke his ego, the autobot cause is not what he ultimately fights for, or fought, at least how i see it. compared to his brother, though, who's there just to fight decepticons because they're "bad guys", i think Sunstreaker saw the lines between "bad" and "good" more blurry. He almost became a decepticon. He was regularly cruel to his brother. He values his self more than others.
Then he had to grow to understand He is not where the world ends. He always cared for Sideswipe, he always cared for people around him, but it took him to almost die, almost risk everyone dying, to understand, and it sucks.
He's a martyr to me in a way that he endures all his heavy self and burdens when trying to be better while world will never be the safe place to him. He gets a service dog about it.
Anyway i think his design is also one of the coolest things ever have you seen him

I always like making OC’s, it’s fun. Ever since the new Earthspark episodes released, I got more ideas- and so now, I’ve got four new OC’s specifically for Earthspark things (although they all do have some things for other continuities) and I love them all.

That tfa OC is so cool! Can you tell me more about how you came up with the design? I just started watching transformers and all I've seen so far is 6 tfa episodes. I am trying so hard to make an OC but I find it really hard to come up with a good design.
Oh yeah, coming up with a good design specifically based on the art style of TFA is real hard! Also, I hope you're enjoying the show so far!
She is based on an East German car (only built during the existence of the GDR) called a Trabant. They are not being built anymore and folks who love them usually have to salvage a lot of old parts to put a functioning part together - that is the reason she looks as patchworked as she does! In-universe, she is a left-behind former Autobot who had to put herself back together by scavenging for parts from her crew... as you be able to tell, she doesn't like neither the Decepticons nor the Autobots that much. Though she has befriended Blitzwing... somehow. These days I think she might be convinced to join Lockdown, honestly, but I'll have to think about that more.

Inspired by 'it's not love, it's obsession': what are your thoughts on the parallels between Luo Binghe and Xue Yang?
oooh this is a fascinating one.
One of my favorite things about looking at MXTX's books as a corpus of work taken together is the ways in which you can see her evolving as a writer. I don't necessarily mean stylistically (I don't feel like I can speak to that, since I can't read the original), or even necessarily narratively (though I do think TGCF is the strongest narratively, for all it's probably longer than it needs to be). What I really mean is how you can see her coming back to the same themes over and over and exploring them with variations and shades of difference. There are very clearly things that are MXTX Concerns, as it were, that she revisits and echoes and plays with in all of her works; questions about justice and the cycle of violence are one big one that I've thought a lot about personally.
And when you're looking at the three books together, there are places where you can draw throughlines - for instance, from Yi City > Black Water Arc, or from (arguably) Xiao Xingchen > Xie Lian. In light of the trivia that Yi City comes at least in part from an older, abandoned story MXTX worked on when she was younger (per an interview with her, I believe), I feel like you can draw the line from Xue Yang > Luo Binghe as far as some of the tropes being played with. Xue Yang is (in some ways) an echo of Luo Binghe is an echo of an older story that had a character who may or may not have been named Xue Yang.
In obvious ways Xue Yang takes a different position in the story he ends up in than Luo Binghe does in his (he ends up an antagonist), but while one could look at the Song Lan/Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen trio and posit Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan as the intended pair of whatever original story they came from, that doesn't, in my eyes, fit with the other relationships MXTX chooses to write. Xue Yang lives at a nexus of a lot of the things MXTX pokes at with Luo Binghe and, yes, Wei Wuxian, but also (to a lesser degree) Hua Cheng - the legacy of childhood violence, the importance and weight of small kindnesses in changing a person, the probing at the idea of people as irredeemable or incapable of change (and finding it lacking).
He comes from a disadvantaged, marginalized background (as do the other two protagonists) and, despite perpetrating atrocious acts of violence (Wei Wuxian actually, Luo Binghe less so in SVSSS canon but explicitly so in PIDW, which is the way Shen Qingqiu relates to him initially), kind treatment from a single person having a deep impact on their behavior. There's also the quality of deep, obsessive devotion, notably beyond death, that Xue Yang shares with Luo Binghe, Lan Wangji, and Hua Cheng (portrayed in the latter two cases as clearly and explicitly romantic and to be valued). Xue Yang doesn't occupy a protagonist role in MDZS (obviously), but he has some of those thematic qualities that tend to pop up in MXTX protagonists and/or love interests.
(Hua Cheng might stand out here, and he is different, certainly, but I would point to the very, very early identification of him as inherently ill-fortuned and bad to be around. Xue Yang has TGCF echoes, I'd say, to a lesser extent in Hua Cheng than in Jun Wu, but I don't think the echoes are absent from Hua Cheng, either.).
This positions Xue Yang, potentially, as (if we're using a crude metaphor) a little bit the Luo Binghe to Xiao Xingchen's Shen Qingqiu, with Song Lan potentially occupying more of a Yue Qingyuan place (but of course that's just speculation and we'll probably never know).
This is a lot of tl;dr but I guess the main thing I'm thinking about here is that while it's I think shallow to describe Xue Yang as a proto-Luo Binghe (or rather, ur-Xue Yang from that older story as), I think it's fair to see that relationship between the two characters as part and parcel of MXTX's revisiting, revising, and reconsidering the same themes over and over again in her work - in the same way, I think, that within the same story Wei Wuxian's parallels with both Xue Yang illustrate that same impulse. (And not, to be clear, as a simple "this one good, this one bad" morality tale; what MXTX is doing with her parallels is, I daresay, more interesting than that.)
anyway, there you have it. I feel like this went maybe a little left of what you were asking (maybe you wanted me to talk about the actual parallels in terms of character?) but this is a sub-category of that subject I personally find very fun to think about.

They strut in actin' all tough an' ready ta battle me, but then as soon as they spot the egg, their eyes immediately light up. It's kinda cute...

Regina is such a great character, even though she's only in one episode (for better or worse, the current Pokemon series is very episodic, so her story wraps up neatly in one episode). She's very well-written, compelling, and (judging by the outpouring of fanart form those working on the show after it aired, see one, two, three, and four) loved by those working on the show too!
Her storyline touches on several things...
[Spoilers for the whole episode follow, so I'd prefer if you watched it yourself! it's episode 87 of Pocket Monsters (2019), by the Japanese count.]
The bullying/ostracization she suffered reminds me of Iris, her Pokemon menacing anyone they see as a threat to her remind me of how protective Shootie/Trip’s Pokemon can be too, but in her Glacia (Glaceon) Mieze's case, it’s much more extreme and constant... her Pokemon’s hyper-vigilant and sick because of it. ;_; Regina fears her peers and Mieze responds to that fear, by freezing whoever frightens her... even if the threat only existed in Regina's mind.
Tumblr media
The artists and animators working on this episode seemed to really love it, the day it came out, SO many artists and animators with twitter accounts shared their (unofficial) artwork inspired by the episode and I went in expecting something really special/different. Really sweet and it made me love Koharu even more.
Tumblr media
Also, the bit where her parents think Mieze is why Regina can’t make friends, even considering taking her away, not realizing that Mieze IS her friend and why she wasn’t alone all this time and Mieze was only attacking others to keep Regina safe…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it felt a lot like when parents blame the internet or a cell phone for their kid being alone instead of realizing it’s a sign or symptom of something, rather than the cause… they understand by the end that she at least had one friend through all of this. ;_;
Mieze wasn’t the reason for her isolation, Mieze was her refuge from it. She was the one friend Regina had when she was being bullied, but what began as a protective measure began to isolate Regina further & make Mieze deathly ill.
Tumblr media
Koharu, who always reaches out to those who are alone (like Gou) chooses to be her friend and supporter too.
... also, this little girl sends hand-written letters, in envelopes sealed with wax ,and sends pretty snowglobes as gifts. I love her.

🔥unpopular opinion meme for tfa Starscream?
Mm... I know you haven’t finished the show, so spoilers for my opinion (which I’m not even sure if it would be unpopular or not- I don’t focus on TFA, or this version of Starscream that much). You don’t have to read this one if you don’t want to-
I kind of feel like mmmaybe he should just stay gone? I think Slipstream would’ve revived him, and he’s one of my favorite characters in general, but tbh- meh. If S4 got the chance to happen, he should stay gone.
Or like, maybe when Megs killed him for the first time, that was when he should’ve died- like, he would’ve had a short amount of time in the show, but y’know, maybe it would be interesting- maybe he did the Clone thing earlier, so he dies and doesn’t have the shard with him anymore, but now all of his Clones are around, and doing their own thing- maybe going after Megs, I dunno.

Zote
First impression: Huh, kind of a dick, is he like my cousin or something?
Impression now: Still a bit of an asshole but I like him we need more uncool survivors. Also the guy has a lot of raw lines.
Favorite moment: guy is so strong not even the godseekers can hide from his influence. I LOVED when I finally entered the eternal ordeal.
Unpopular opinion: I think loving a character isn't always about liking them and finding them nice. Sometimes you just need someone that feels like anothe player in this game who is even worse than yourself /joking. I totally get people who don't like him and yeah he is not nice but I think that's the point and if you wanna laugh at him the game gives you a lot of chances to do so.
Idea for a story: Hmmmm tough one. You can go the angst way and try to explain his family issues. Also maybe a Don Quijote crossover, his Dulcinea (person he would adore) are his precepts.
Favorite relationship: Hmmmmm not that much to pick from here lol. I do find it hilarious how much the Hunter's journal makes fun of him and the zotelings, but who writes that depends on your headcanons.
Favorite headcanon: I said it in a discord server but Zote is verbose so I think he should beta read Bretta's fanfics about him. He for zome reason does not realize he is the Grey Prince.

Your characters get to play their world's equivalent of D&D... What class and species are they playing? (Bonus points if it's not something that would align themselves to who they are normally.)
Gonna cheat a liiittle bit and add a bit of Pathfinder into the mix!
...and this may have turned into me imagining a Scenario involving OCs in one big ttrpg campaign. XD
Glacia would probably be the first one to bring it up to her friends/"friends" and might start out as DM but find that she's pretty bad at it/bored with it. She thought she'd be able to do it since she's a goddess-- worldbuilding should be her thing, but she finds enjoyment in playing a human rogue! Probably something akin to the Soulknife subclass from Tasha's Cauldron? The human part is definitely a big deal since she used to HATE humans, but has since grown out of it. A lot of the backstory is probably gonna end up with her trying to cope with family and pantheon issues XP
Flarah/Ashe would likely be invited to said table but since they're kind of... for lack of better term, a split soul in one body, they'd probably take turns on using the character, and as a result probably end up building a multiclassed character. A Kitsune (pathfinder) Wildfire Druid (Tasha's Cauldron) + Witherbloom Warlock (Strixhaven)? Flarah would play the druid, while Ashe would play the warlock, and they'd switch every other session.
Tempys or Skylyn would probably end up as DMs in the long run, tho Tempys probably would end up making an alchemist or artificer that serves as an early game guide. Leave it to the dream gals to actually serve up a campaign the table is relatively happy with lmaooo
Seph would probably be something that aligns with how he views himself. Pact of the Undead Warlock (Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft) Poppet (pathfinder). He would have a lot of fun with the potential horrors he could do with his character.
Izulda, likely roped in by Seph, would probably get Gelum's help with character ideas and they end up building something along the lines of either an Ancestral Guardian or Spirit Instinct Barbarian (they're pretty similar, difference being one's d&d and the other's pathfinder). The species/ancestry however... Conrasu from pathfinder sounds fun ngl?? Sunlight healing and all that fun stuff. Definitely something the two of them would take interest in. Gelum herself has no interest playing a ttrpg, but would enjoy watching.
there would likely be other OCs that would be willing to play in Glacia's game but they belong to other friends, so that's the end of that scenario, BUT I do have some other bonuses (will warn that it's mostly pathfinder since i have easiest access to the information):
Lara has been set up as a Shadow Sorcerer + Summoner multiclass on pathbuilder, but she could also gravitate towards Open Hand Monk. Probably be an Elf or some sort of Fey to keep it simple
Ten would be a Witch (Elementalist, with the elemental philosophy being Elemental Cycle, and Hex being a Familiar) but also multiclass into Kineticist w/ at least Water being involved, not sure if she'd do dual gate or single though. Definitely would choose something like Eladrin or similar. This bitch loves her elements, but being made of ink, the water part is certainly out of her element (pun intended)
Crystal would choose arctic elf, since she is a half-elf of sorts but is more human-presenting, to playing as one would let her be more in touch with her Chiru half. For class, probably Tempest Oracle.
Cyxlar, on the other hand, I can see her as a Kalashtar + Champion (and this is how i find out that champion is just pathfinder flavored paladin. oops. LOL), OR Astral Self Monk. Kind of thematic for her w/ the latter class, while Champion is more divergent. Kalashtar is just fun dream people and has no particular ties XD
Talia would be a Catfolk Bard and would play into the horny/romantic bard trope (but not to an annoying degree), which considering she's the only OC I can comfortably confirm that she's aro/ace, I'm sure her friends would either be shocked or find amusement in her taking her character in that direction (which that's her plan anyways, be funny and commit to the bit)
I feel like Arin and Meufi would end up accidentally roleplaying as each other, with Arin being a Draxie Summoner + Magus multiclass, and Meufi being a Beastkin Human Wizard
I think I'm gonna end it there before I get too overboard XD
maybe one day I'll add on to include different OCs. I know @ one point an in-universe TTRPG session is actually gonna happen as a way for Dusk to meet the Arc 2 characters, but I plan on actually developing some more in-depth character sheets for that chapter (watch me only use this information once and then never again) (you know, just like a real ttrpg where scheduling is hell and you may end up only doing a oneshot by accident ;w;)
