Alright enough reading other people’s Dndads rants; time to put some skin in the game just to get this word vomit out of my head and into the internet void:
Despite my attitude going into season 2 telling me I needed to see each and every beloved NPC from season 1 come back, I regret to say I was super disappointed with Scam Likely’s comeback.
Now, I am willing to acknowledge I’m biased seeing as Scam’s Girl From Ipanema cover is quite literally my ringtone; HOWEVER, it took all the wind out of my sails to see that this season’s Scam was nothing more than to give Hermie some development. Hermie apparently needed another father to hate and more reasons to be sad, which I don’t even think is true. Hermie is nowhere near Paeden status as far as NPCs goes, but he had a shit ton of potential to be a scene stealer if everyone would remember he existed long enough to give him interesting moments or god forbid give Will the gay romance he’s been deprived of for 2 seasons (@literalgaypersonanthonyburch🪦)
The choice to make Scam and Jodie Hermie’s parents as a random ass pull from Anthony was a delicious stroke of genius fuckery in my personal opinion. It started as a one-off insane reveal and I almost cried laughing when I found out. THIS is the absolute baffoonery that Scam deserved to expand upon if he had to come back for season 2. How the hell did Scam scam the king of hell into a relationship and out of a kid? We’ll never know cause it was for the goofs and gaffs. But wouldn’t the ultimate goof and or gaff be to let Jodie be hung up on Scam AND Morgan and not completely brush off one of the funniest between season lord drops? Or at least give us a time to catch up with BOTH characters outside of being Hermie’s dad? Scam never needed to be a good dad or change his chaotic scamming ways for the sake of plot, but if he’s gonna show up do the icon some jus👏tice👏
Anyways plot twist Grant is my favorite charcater and I have even more overly unfair and nit-picky feelings on his arc too ok that’s my time goodnight🫡

Jesus Armys are so embarrassing...
But then I look at other kpop stans are they look legit demented. Stupid and hive-minded doesn't even begin to cover it.
How have you survived in this fandom for ~10 years?
***
I mind my business, focus on my faves, watch Jimin fancams, and vibe to good music.
Which reminds me...
Zico's new track with Jennie isn't bad at all.
youtube
Zico once again shows he's one of the best artists k-pop has to offer, and Jennie can be amazing when she puts her mind to it and is in an environment where her talent can flourish. Also, someone sent me an ask about the How album from Zico's rookie group, BOYNEXTDOOR, as well. To that anon, your ask is buried somewhere in my inbox and I honestly can't find it so here's an abridged answer: I prefer the songs on Why to the songs on How, but How further establishes BND's sound identity and that's kind of impressive given how young the group is. Zico is doing an amazing job with them. My favourite song on the album is So Let's Go See the Stars.
Other good music I've been streaming recently is Bubble Gum by NewJeans.
youtube
I'm down for NewJeans' soundscape. It's effortless good music, which stands countercultural to the dominant characteristic of k-pop, where everything is valued according to the perceived effort expressed in it. It's why most of the music in this industry is maximalist, most of choreographies are elaborate, most of the styling and music videos are bombastic, etc. It's all about being as big and loud and 'impressive' as possible. And NewJeans is... kinda like the antithesis of that. It shouldn't work, they shouldn't be popular, and yet NewJeans/ADOR/MHJ is able to distill the essence they create into a format that can succeed in this industry.
They operate like an alien or foreign object in the k-pop system body. And like an infection in a body, the immune response is to counter it and eliminate it, or contain it so it can't threaten the system, and that's the response we've been seeing to NewJeans from the wider k-pop fandom and industry since NewJeans debuted in 2022.
Fast Company published an interview with Min Heejin three days ago and I suggest anyone interested in how she thinks, read it. I've linked it here. The interview was done in November 2023, so right when all the discord with HYBE was starting to escalate though there's no direct mention of that conflict in the interview. One of my top takeaways was to learn her favourite artist is Astrud Gilberto - who just happens to be my partner's favourite artist alongside Wynton Marsalis, so that was nice to see. MHJ mentions The Girl from Ipanema in the interview, so here it is for your reference:
youtube
*
Anon, you didn't ask for song recs but since I've already started, I'll end with Backslide by Twenty One Pilots that also came out a couple days ago, and Veridis Quo by Daft Punk because that just came up on my playlist.
Twenty One Pilots is right up there with Daft Punk when it comes to the most iconic duos in music, in my opinion. So yeah their music is on constant rotation. Here's a version of Veridis Quo as a mashup of Angèle and Daft Punk:

When ARMYs are being idiotic and the rest of k-pop fandom is self-immolating, the music makes it easy to ignore the noise.

“The Girl from Ipanema” Singer Astrud Gilberto Dead at 83
Astrud Gilberto, who brought worldwide attention to bossa nova with 1964’s “The Girl from Ipanema,” has died at 83.
Her former label, Verve Records, announced Gilberto’s June 5 death without giving a cause.
“One of the most affecting and unique voices in all of music, Astrud’s Verve albums introduced millions of listeners worldwide to the wonders of Brazilian music and jazz and the magical intersection of the two,” the label said.
Though best known for “Impanema,” Gilberto recorded 16 studio albums and continued playing live until 2002.
Courtney Jaye eulogized Gilberto as “an absolute icon,” while Leo Sayer called her “the wonderful girl from Brazil with the golden voice.”
The influence of that voice and Gilberto’s “beautiful, natural, untrained vocal genius” can be heard “from Sade to Lana Del Rey and beyond,” Steven Van Zandt said on Twitter.
The singer “elevated the bossa nova and samba genres and put Bahia on the map,” Van Zandt added.
“I always loved Astrud Gilberto,” Al Di Meola wrote on Facebook. “My first introduction to bossa nova. May she rest in peace.”

Sweetie being Mrs. Tom Brady made her relevant 💁‍♀️Without him and his career she would have BEEN forgotten already. Deadass, no one cares about a washed up has been, she should be grateful instead of acting like it was SUCH a chore to be married to him. don’t lie
The only reason you think Tom Brady made Gisele Bündchen (She has a name. Use it.) relevant is because she gave up her highly successful career while it was still in its prime to move to Boston.
It’s crazy that you would rather admit to being an uncultured loser living in a bubble than to recognize that people pay attention to many different spheres of influence, and in many of those other spheres, Gisele is simply that girl.
Go read the retrospectives written on her career when she announced her retirement. Go listen to designers discuss what a loss her retiring was. Get it through your head that this woman has had an iconic career, and when she left it, she still had at least 5-8 more years left at her peak. She is the first face you see when you land in Brazil. There was an entire segment of the 2016 Rio summer Olympics opening ceremony dedicated to her walking to “The Girl from Ipanema.” Do you want to talk about the magnitude of that moment alone?
Understand that her status and impact as a model in the fashion world is dwarfed only by 1) Naomi Campbell and 2) Kate Moss. Get it through your pea brain that just because a woman is in a profession you look down upon because you hate women, doesn’t mean her career is unimportant or not impactful.
And Tom Brady is never going to sleep with you. Give it up.

The Barefoot Chronicles: Strolling Through Rio's Legendary Sands
Tumblr media
Imagine a place where the sun kisses your skin, the sand is your throne, and the waves applaud your entrance. Welcome to Rio, where the beaches are like the city's dating profile – photogenic, fun-loving, and always ready for a good time. Whether you're here to flex your volleyball skills, perfect your tan, or simply sip caipirinhas while the ocean serenades you, Rio's beaches have got you covered. So, slap on some sunscreen, leave your worries behind, and let's dive into the sandy escapades of Brazil's most flirtatious coastlines. Who knows? You might just fall in love – or at the very least, develop a serious crush on a coconut."
Rio de Janeiro, a city where the vibrance of urban life seamlessly blends with the tranquil beauty of nature, is globally renowned for its breathtaking beaches. These stretches of sand are not just places to bask in the sun; they are the heartbeats of Rio's culture, offering a glimpse into the carioca way of life. This blog post will take you on a journey through some of Rio's most famous beaches, showcasing their unique charms and why they're a must-visit for anyone traveling to this sun-soaked paradise.
  Copacabana: The Iconic Crescent
Starting with the most iconic of them all, Copacabana Beach is a name synonymous with Rio de Janeiro. Stretching over 4 kilometers, this beach is famed for its golden sands and the promenade lined with black-and-white Portuguese pavement in a distinctive wave pattern. Copacabana is more than just a beach; it's a vibrant community where locals and tourists alike gather to play volleyball, sunbathe, and indulge in caipirinhas from the kiosks dotting the shoreline. The New Year's Eve celebration here, with its spectacular fireworks display, is a sight to behold, drawing millions from around the globe.
  Ipanema: The Trendsetter
Immortalized in the bossa nova classic "The Girl from Ipanema," this beach epitomizes Rio's chic and trendy side. Nestled between Arpoador and Leblon, Ipanema is the quintessence of Rio's beach culture, with its clear blue waters and social scene. Each section of Ipanema Beach attracts different crowds, from families to sports enthusiasts and the LGBTQ+ community, making it a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles. The setting sun behind the Two Brothers Mountain, viewed from Ipanema, offers an unforgettable spectacle, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple.
  Leblon: The Sophisticated Sibling
Just west of Ipanema lies Leblon Beach, known for its laid-back atmosphere and sophisticated flair. Preferred by families and those seeking a more tranquil beach experience, Leblon offers all the beauty of its more famous neighbors but with a quieter vibe. The beach is backed by the upscale neighborhood of Leblon, brimming with chic cafes, boutique shops, and some of Rio's finest restaurants. The Mirante do Leblon, a viewpoint at the beach's western end, provides panoramic views of the coast, making it a perfect spot for photos or a moment of reflection.
  Arpoador: The Surfer’s Haven
Arpoador Beach is famed for its excellent surfing conditions, especially during the winter months when the waves are at their best. This small strip of sand, located at the end of Ipanema and the beginning of Copacabana, is also beloved for its rock formations that offer spectacular sunset views. Surfers and non-surfers alike gather on the rocks each evening to applaud the sun as it dips below the horizon, a local tradition that captures the communal spirit of Rio's beach culture.
  Prainha: The Secluded Sanctuary
For those willing to venture a bit further, Prainha Beach is a secluded sanctuary located about an hour's drive from the city center. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush Atlantic Forest, Prainha offers a more intimate connection with nature. Its crescent-shaped beach and smaller crowds make it a favorite among surfers and anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Rio's more popular beaches.
The Bottom Line
Rio de Janeiro's beaches are more than just picturesque landscapes; they are where the essence of carioca life unfolds. Each beach, with its unique character and charm, invites visitors to experience the joy, relaxation, and vibrancy of Rio. Whether you're soaking up the sun on the iconic sands of Copacabana, catching waves at Arpoador, or enjoying the tranquil beauty of Prainha, Rio's beaches offer something for every type of traveler. So, grab your sunscreen and prepare to immerse yourself in the famous beaches of Rio—a truly unforgettable adventure awaits.
