The poets at a wedding

anderperry wedding I guess?

would definitely cry at the wedding

would be in almost every picture

I feel like he would be the wedding planner and be very passionate about every choice

He is the minister (he lost a bet and no, he will not elaborate) and is just grinning broadly as he marries his best friends and trying not to wolf whistle

He and Meeks would be in charge of the music for sure

He would help select the venue and set up the tent too

He is the one who carries in all the chairs and tables and runs back and forth while Cameron and Charlie argue on where things should be set

the golden one would be of Charlie falling off the table

he would print it out and label it "modern icarus"

I don't know why but I picture Meeks to be really good at baking and would probably bring cupcakes for everyone

he would criticise the desert as if he were a judge in a bake off

("ugh what is that lemon-y taste"

"Uh, lemon? this is a lemon meringue, Meeks. Will you only read labels if they are in Latin?"

Chris

would be dancing so much

and get red faced from the drinks

I feel like she would dance on the tables along with Charlie until they accidentally kick a pyramid of wine glasses and need to be dragged down

she would set up a lovely photo booth

would be SO lively and cheerful

giving everyone hugs

stomp her feet and scream happily anytime any dirty song comes along and would dance the craziest, dragging Ginny to the dance floor

would start a dance chain where everyone grabs the shoulders of the person in front and hop around the dance floor. All the poets would have their ties around their heads

Ginny

super happy for Neil and Todd because she knew Neil was in love with Todd the moment she heard him talk about his lovely roommate during midsummer rehearsals

would be dancing so much with Chris, grinning and laughing all the while

Chris can't take her eyes off her

and the way Ginny looks at Chris OH MY GOD GET A ROOM

The only person who could dance as much as or more than her would be Knox.

She would probably make a replica of Puck's crown and make Neil wear it in the photobooth

would admire the decorations

would take so many pictures of her friends

she would be an amazing photographer too

would probably wear the jazz hands pose during pictures

and when she gets drunk she says things things to Chris that make her look like she is going to combust

would walk Neil down the aisle

would cry because his heart feels so full

they would all lift him in the air too like they did in the football pitch

would mouth "I love you" when he walks down the aisle

his vows would make Todd laugh and cry at the same time and the sight just warms Neil's heart

He would be dancing with EVERYONE

everyone moves out of the way in a hurry when he dances with Charlie

would be hooting and screaming while dancing

His face would be red - either from dancing or drinks or laughter or because of the things Todd is whispering in his ear

would take so many pictures of and with Todd

his dance with todd would be like a fairytale. people would honestly be awestruck because they are so gorgeous and they are proof that love exists goddammit

and while dancing he would keep telling Todd how beautiful he is and some other things too that makes Todd either trip on his dress shoes or give that certain grin that Neil is pretty sure would bring him to his knees

he would make sure Todd feels comfortable and at peace and he knows he is by just looking at his face

Todd

so happy

nervous excitement ofc but he is at bliss and he has that adorable giggly grin on which is so contagious

his vows bring everyone to tears.

he recites a poem that renders everyone speechless

he is slightly crying and laughing at the same time at Neil's vows

he sways dreamily and people aren't even sure if it is because of the drinks; he is in the moment and he is revelling in the bliss and the euphoric realization that this is all real

and when he feels jitters, he squeezes Neil's hands and his heart immediately falls at ease and fills with warmth when Neil pulls away from the crowd and stays with him

He dances with everyone too, and nearly falls when Charlie spins him but he does a neat but accidental trick that makes the whole thing look so swuave the only thing that ruined it was his adorable look of surprise

he would keep telling Neil how much he loves him and how proud he is of Neil

he dances with Keating too and it's the most precious thing

dancing with Neil is one of the best moments in his life and he wants to stay there forever until Neil whispers something that makes him want to find the nearest room

he would smile at guests and honestly he doesn't have to say much. his dazzling smile says it all

when he drinks and gets in the mood he is so sweet and lively and he has so much fun with all of his poets, talking and dancing and laughing.

he would also say something super sarcastic

("Neil, your husband is being mean"

"I know"

"ew I should have known you would be into that"

"Hey-no- *looks at Todd for support*

*Todd grins, looks away and shrugs*)

he tells everyone how much he cherishes and loves them and his heart feels so full

I wonder if all of Ginny Danburry’s scenes were cut from the final cut of Dead Poets Society because they decided not to include her alleged relationship with Neil? I don’t really mind the second decision, but cutting those scenes out entirely makes less and less sense to me.

Ginny existing in itself kind of ties a lot of things together, at least in terms of Knox/Chris/Chet’s plot. Chris references her enough times that it gives the audience the illusion that she should be important. But also Ginny’s in Midsummer. Chris probably goes to the play to support her, and Knox “We’ll sit in the back! *proceeds to sit in full view of everyone” Overstreet convinces her to go as his date. Wouldn’t it make sense if Chet was also at Midsummer to support his sister…? From there, we can either get a full Knox-Chet confrontation after the play or a shot of Chet looking upset at seeing them together, but ultimately giving up to close that arc.

But talking about deleted scenes strictly, the ones I’ve seen from the Laser Disc video on YouTube that appear to have contributed to Neil/Ginny’s development also have their worth outside of that narrative.

1. When Knox meets the Danburrys, probably the most relevant information we get is that Ginny is thinking about auditioning for A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Henley Hall. That serves as ZERO use to Knox as a character, but it is foreshadowing for the audience, so when Neil brings the flyer to Todd, it’s like “ohhh, that was mentioned before, wasn’t it?”

(also, lmaoo that deleted scene did Knox NO favours in terms of sympathising for him, because 1. dude definitely missed the mark on “fanon Romeo, lovesick archetype” and full-on went “canon Romeo, creep vibes, 2. it shows that Chris actually likes Chet/he’s not so bad)

2. The infamous dock scene, where Todd helps Neil rehearse for his role. I only dare to claim this might’ve “furthered Ginny/Neil’s plot” in the eyes of the creators because Neil starts singing her praises, calling her “incredible,” and when Todd proceeds to ask what she looks like, Neil is quickly like, “never mind, you’re not meeting her—” (which, great anderperry moment, but the writers probably intended the jealous to go the other way.) But anyway, like!! That scene just further shows the audience how close Neil and Todd were!! How much they meant to each other that Todd would help Neil with his lines and Neil could ease Todd into letting go, doing silly things like shouting lines into the lake and just prancing around all carefree. Not to mention the dock! Like, that moment right there is no doubt WHY Todd ran to the dock, screaming his name, when Neil died. That parallel is essential.

That’s just a little theory of mine, though. I understand probably none of that would’ve mattered to the average viewer, I’m just a huge film nerd and I’ve been thinking about Ms. Ginny Danburry often <3

“Well this is awkward.” Neil chuckled as he and Ginny walked out of the theatre.

“Awkward? You’re telling me.” Ginny scowled. “I have two days left to ask out Chris, until your friend,” she glared at Neil. “Plans to ask out Henley Hall’s only non-theatre lesbian.”

“Trust me, I don’t find having to prevent my love stricken friend getting in the way of a budding sapphic romance ‘fun’.”

“Quit joking around, Neil! This is do or die. This is endgame. These next few days will alter my future permanently, for better or for worse.”

“I see why you’re in theatre now, Danbury. You’re more dramatic than me. And that’s saying something.”

“You are a cruel friend, Perry. Cruel. Cold-hearted. Leaving your poor friend to chase the girl of her dream’s unassisted.” Ginny huffed jokingly, but she was still freaking out internally. She was always going to ask Chris out. But the impending time pressure made it a little too real.

“I’ve got to go the other way. All boys school that bears a striking resemblance to prison, remember?”

“See ya. Don’t forget to represent the Anti-Knox agenda.”

“Anti Knox for Chris.”

“Same thing!” Ginny called over her shoulder. Her life, she thought to herself, was slowly becoming a hopeless romantic rom-com, like something her mum would watch, except replace herself with another unremarkable brunet.

Whatever Knox was planning to do, she just had to top it by one.

if i were to upload the dps novel (by n. h. kleinbaum), what format would be preferred??? text-only in a pdf?? or scanned pages?? chapter by chapter somewhere?? and also where would be best to upload it??

i know there are loads of people who’ve been wanting to read the novelization and since i’ve got a few copies of it & some spare time, i’d work on providing free dps novel access in the best way possible :^)
