What Is and Isn't a Fish: a List

A list of the animals I discussed in my fish essay, but for those who don't want to scroll through paragraphs of text to find out if an animal is or isn't a fish. Just CTRL+F your way through here!

Some notes before you proceed:

Yes, all tetrapods are fish! We are phylogenetically fish, as we are and our ancestors were lobe-finned fish! "Fish" in the phylogenetic sense is a paraphyletic group if you try to exclude tetrapods, so it is frankly impossible.

How come tetrapods aren't listed as fish then? Long answer, read my essay. Short answer, me and other fish accounts tend to operate on the morphological definition of fish, so does most of the world. Here I use the morphological definition of "fish".

I don't know which of my mutuals are comfortable with it but I'm making a post for y'all right now to express my appreciation in a silly way and if you don't like it tell me how I can express it for you otherwise. Let me learn yalls love languages and let me love you.

Anyways here goes. (this got way too long so I'm putting it under the cut)

Mutuals, I am kissing you on the mouth (silly). I'm in love with you. We are going to the grocery/convenience store and buying candy and snacks and stuff. I'm making you dinner. I'm playing with your hair and giving you hugs. We are cuddling under a heated weighted blanket. We are baking cookies. You have eggs and sugar and fuzz in your hair and I pick it out like monkeys do with bugs. I'm giving you a blanket or my hoodie when you're cold. We're both too tired to cook so I'll trim the chicken and chop the veggies and you do the seasoning and the oven. We're trading life stories and getting high. We play with our OCs like dolls and watch cartoons or shitty TV. We sing along to old rock songs and sit in silence. We gush over our cute pets and plants you tell me which fictional character you want to screw the most. We make our own constellations with a bag of old glow-in-the-dark stars we found in the basement. We make stories about those constellations. We're dancing silly whiteboy bad style. We're battling with nerf guns and lightsabers. We put on noise cancelling headphones when the noisy ass cars are dragging down the street. We find the neighbor's outdoor cat (he escaped again) and pet him and take pictures. We're getting drunk and riding the bus home. Hopefully we don't get lost because we can't afford an uber. We go volunteering, maybe at the shelter, and we fantasize about adopting the animals that cling to us the most, or maybe the ones that are scared and hiding from us because we want them to not be scared anymore.

You're a mother struggling to get her stroller out the bus door so I pick up the other end to help you out. You thank me with a smile and I get back on the bus because this isn't my stop but I love you and your kid and your kid's otter stuffie. You're strangers to me.

We get heart-shaped swag glasses from the condom manufacturer's tent at the pride parade festival thing. We trade lipsticks and I do your eyebrows.

We go to an empty movie theatre and talk and dance and get separate popcorn because you always add too much butter.

I give you the yellow skittles because they're your favorite and my least favorite.

We go to a haunted house and you squeeze my hand when you get to scared and I make a joke to make it a little less scary.

I go through old jewelry boxes during spring cleaning and find a bracelet I know you would love. Maybe you don't wear it but you keep it anyways because you know I love you.

There's a hairdye stain on the shower curtain from when we got a little too wild. It won't come out in the wash and I'm glad.

I sew patches on your jacket and you buy me lunch.

You help me pack up my things. There's not enough room in my new apartment for all my stuffed animals. I give you my giant Squirtle because it's your favorite and I know you'll take good care of him.

You break your favorite coffee mug. I don't have real gold but I glue it back together and paint the seams with glitter kintsugi style. It won't hold water anymore so it sits on your desk holding your pens.

We go to the thrift store - I try on a silly hat and learn the hard way that the ribbon on it is held in place by sharp pins. It's cold out and we don't have gloves so I hold your hands and try to warm them up with my own. The bus is late and it's raining and cold so we wait in the 7/11 and hope the bus takes its time.

You're clawing your way out of a rough patch but your room is a disaster so I help you clean it. You're embarrassed by the sheer amount of instant food wrappers and dirty dishes on the floor but I don't mind.

You call me drunk because your date ditched you and you don't feel safe heading home alone. I pick you up with icecream and a movie and we watch it in our pajamas. You don't want to wash the makeup off your face so I bribe you with a fancy face scrub and we treat ourselves well for the night.

We play old videogames we've had for years that are only fun together. We go out stargazing. You're nervous about a date and I help you pick out an outfit and hype you up for it. If your partner doesn't treat you well I threaten to kick their ass even though we both know I'd lose in a fight. I might just do it anyways.

We go to the skatepark and I try to learn to skateboard. It's not going well. We mostly sit at the top of the ramp and talk. I tell you about a game you don't really like but I do and you tell me about a band I don't like but you do and we listen to each other. We disagree on things and we have our own opinions and we're people but we love each other and we talk nice and hanging out is fun.

I text you after months of not talking and we get coffee together. We're still friends and we're still in love.

I tell you that I'm in love with you and you know I mean it. I love you as a sibling, a friend, a stranger, a mentor. I love you and I want you to know that. I love you and I want to do all these things with you. I love you and I want you to be happy. I want to make you happy. I love you and I'll love you tomorrow and I'll love you when we're strangers again.

I hope this makes sense. I'm rambling now. I'm trying to remind myself that I'm in love with things.

Hockey AU: Pizza Date Pt. 2

Hey! Fun fact, I wrote this months ago. Does this mean it predates Dana confirming there is no homophobia on the Isles? Yes it does. Very excited about it. :3

Anyways I won't waste your time any longer. I know both of these are pfairly short but it's been a 2-parter ever since I posted it in my discord I'm a part of. (Shout-outs once more to my friends there. Y'all lovely people and know what you did. >.>)

No TW this time. Just some fluff and explanations.

“Luz can you slow down a bit? I’m sure the house isn’t going anywhere.” Amity complained as the human led her forcibly down the street.

Her voice seemed to cut through the chaos in Luz’s mind like a knife. She focused on her hand and gave Amity an apologetic squeeze as she slowed down.

“I’m sorry. Look at me, dragging you around at breakneck speed when you’re still tired and run-down from practice.” Luz smiled sheepishly, falling in line with her girlfriend to walk next to her.

“Well, actually the food helped quite a bit.” Amity admitted truthfully, before turning to face Luz sharply. “But don’t let it get to your head.”

“Too late.” Luz grinned back at her.

They walked in silence for a bit, Luz struggling to process exactly what had happened back at the pizza joint. She knew she shouldn’t feel this way, that nothing her and Amity did was wrong, but it didn’t keep the feeling of fear from creeping in.

Amity seemed to pick up on her discomfort though, as she always did, and pulled her girlfriend to a stop in the middle of the sidewalk. For a moment, Luz feared she would want to talk about what just happened, and felt the knot rising to her throat but instead Amity simply asked her to come back to the ice rink with her.

“There’s a couple of shots that I could probably use some advice on. Plus, I was really enjoying just getting to spend some time with you. Home can wait a little longer.”

Amity was panting as she skated over to Luz who had half a pizza crust hanging out of her mouth. She grinned as Amity took her helmet off and leaned up against the small railing separating the player box from the rink.

“You are looking amazing out there! The other teams aren’t going to know what hit em!" Luz exclaimed excitedly, barely managing to swallow the crust before jumping up to grasp Amity's hands.

Amity laughed as a blush spread across her face. "Thanks Luz, but for the most part I won't be making any shots in-game. My job is going to mostly be defense. That means body checking anyone who comes near my teammate with the puck." She said with a confident grin.

Luz watched her confidence with a wide smile. She got to watch her girlfriend not only have fun, but also slam into other players multiple times in one night? On purpose?!

How lucky could she possibly get?

"But wait, if you aren't really going to have the puck, why'd we come back here to practice your shots?"

It was Amity's turn to smirk as she pointed at the empty pizza box sitting next to Luz.

"Well. You didn't touch your food at the restaurant first of all. And secondly, I knew something was bothering you. And when something bothers Luz Noceda, she needs distractions to make herself feel useful before she can start to feel better." The witch answered plainly, giving Luz's hands a squeeze.

Luz's smile slipped. Amity noticed it fade and pulled her hands forward, yanking Luz up from her sitting position.

"Come on Chaos, let's skate for a bit."

"Oh, Amity, I'm not sure that's the best ide-" Luz tried arguing, but Amity had pulled back just enough that the human had to scramble over the railing or risk being squished into it.

As soon as her feet touched the ice, Luz's legs slipped out from under her. Amity's arms were there to support her in an instant, providing just enough balance that they began to glide backwards, almost peacefully, around the ice. Every once and awhile Luz's limbs would freak out and she would nearly wipe out, but every time Amity was right there, holding her up and the girls would devolve into giggles once again.

When they were both exhausted from fighting Luz's inability to function on ice, Amity guided them both off the rink and they took a seat in the players box once again.

"Ok. I swear. One of these day's I'm finally going to just get it and I'll be able to walk all over the ice. Just you wait." Luz promised Amity as she wrapped an arm around her girlfriend's shoulders.

"I believe you'll keep trying anyways." Amity laughed with her, leaning into the embrace.

Suddenly she stiffened. Turning around, Luz saw it in her amber eyes how serious she was.

"Now, Noceda. You're either going to talk to me about what happened back at the restaurant or I'm going to toss you back onto the ice and you can try again right now." She growled menacingly.

Luz gulped.

"Ok ok! I'll tell you. I'm not really in the mood to go splat right now anyways." She squeaked out in a nervous rush.

Amity's eyes softened as she waited for Luz to continue.

"It's just that, I don't know if you heard or noticed, since you were kinda tired earlier, but those ladies who were sitting by us... they kept raising a fuss. Which is stupid! I shouldn't care what they think, and I don't! But... they kept bothering everyone on the staff and the other customers. I was getting worried that things were going to escalate and I didn't want you to get caught up in all of that."

Amity's face was blank as she puzzled together what Luz had said. Maybe her reaction didn't make sense after all. Luz was probably overreacting anyways...

"Raising a fuss? Why would they raise a fuss over us?" Amity asked curiously.

Luz's eyes widened. It wasn't like Amity to be oblivious, that description mostly fell to the human, but the genuine innocence in her girlfriend's voice worried her.

"About us, because we were there. Together. Being happy." Luz answered bitterly, holding Amity even tighter.

Luz watched as Amity's face twisted into a confused frown. It suddenly occured to her that the witch may not actually know what homophobia really was. In all the time Luz had spent in the Boiling Isles, she never encountered anything like it.

"Amity... they were disgusted by us. There are some people here who think love should only exist between a male and a female." Luz explained grimly, avoiding looking at the witch beside her.

"But.. why? What about, any person not of those genders? I don’t see how they can just limit love like that. Or why."

"You don't have homophobia on the Isles then."

"Homo... what?! Is that some kind of human insult?"

Luz chuckled. "Well, yes and no. It just means people who are afraid of same sex couples, but it can extend to the intolerance of anything 'not straight.'"

"Oh... ok. So the fear leads to hatred. And then you get 3 ladies causing a fuss." Amity nodded, finally understanding. "On the Boiling Isles there's so many different sentient species that it never mattered who you loved. "

"Yeah... well here it seems to matter too much."

Both girl's were quiet. Luz had never felt ashamed of who she was, but for those few minutes in the restaurant she was afraid. Afraid of what would happen if they didn't leave.

"Luz?" Amity asked suddenly.

"Yes?"

"Can you tell me next time something's bothering you like that?"

Luz froze. Amity sounded so hurt. She leaned her head into the crook of her girlfriend's neck and closed her eyes.

"Yeah. I will. I promise."

Amity leaned her head right back into Luz and sighed, content with the answer.

"Thank you."

Later that night, before they both went to bed, Luz would curiously check inside the extra box that the man at the counter had slipped her, wondering why it seemed a little bit heavier then the other, empty, boxes.

Inside she'd find a giant cookie and a note written in pen taped to the inside of the lid that read: "Next game the Otter's win, pizza's on us. No old birds or homophobes allowed. :)"

i havent talked to u before but i saw ur post asking for peeps to say things so heres some marine facts! stingrays eat squids and are the most prominant and dangerous predator in the amazon river! giant pacific manta rays can be 22 ft wide while diving 13 mph downwards fo get food! devil rays (related to mantas) can leap out of the water 7ft up to eat flying fish! river otters can be 2 ft tall while sea otters can be 4ft tall, both are dangerous! sea otters also protect kelp forests via eating urchins who cut off the stems of the kelp to stop the regrowth! anamonies (or urchins? i cant remember) are actually extremely terretorial and regularly wage fights against other groups of the same species! cookie cuttter sharks are given their name because they eat the blubber of a whale to lose then regrow multiple whole sets of teeth in one day! also narwals have excellent echolocation skills to navigate the ice they live in!

Thank you for this! This is all new information to me and I learned a lot.

I actually didn't know devil rays were a thing or that they were separate from manta rays so I looked them up and.

Look at it. This isn't a devil ray. This is a bird.

Also I looked up the cookie cutter shark. Look at this fuckin thing.

Frozen - Domestic Assassin (Crack AU) Masterpost

This is a Masterpost of all the fanfiction I’d written (all on Tumblr) based in @ultranos’ Domestic Assassin crack AU which was hilarious for a fairly good-sized group of us! And from what I”ve seen in my notifications, people are still enjoying and finding fics of mine in this AU even to this day, which is great!

Kristoff visits Elsa in hospital while Anna’s busy with other things. It...does not go as expected. Poor Kristoff.

“Proboscis Monkeys look ridiculous…”

Anna’s exasperation at Elsa rescuing a Proboscis monkey is still not so great that she can’t help but wonder what would happen if you honked their nose. Anna NO.

“She’s going to kill you.”

Kristoff knows his days are numbered when he spills carrot juice all over Elsa’s brand new rifle. Uh oh.

“There’s a perfectly good reason for all these kittens.”

Turns out Elsa decided to adopt some kittens left on the side of the road when they’re already over-run with cats.

“This is extreme, even for you.”

Elsa is so addicted to her coffee she’s begun pouring them into wine bottles, as you do.

i have like 5~ or so cookie ocs (two of which i have really hard to find art saved around on disc, and some exists only in sketchbooks) that i have made over the pat 2 yrs or so

but i never made a cookiesona??

uhh so here's concepts

they're nothing special, just me kinda like a cookie

say hi to otter pop cookie or their concepts

or well

the best one out of me trying out different shit for an hour

no idea what they'd do that isn't a copy of soda cookie's skill except they freeze or whack stuff with the giant otter pop (in kingdoms they'd probably freeze enemies, making them attack slower or not at all as if they're stunned. + some damage of course)

kone of the few rare sonas that do NOT have a spade on them but hey

who knows

like half my sonas they have a hoodie. all of which have a spade on the back

they aint showed their back yet, there may or may not be a spade there

yeah thats canon, dont care it makes no design sense as a cookie, my cookiesona can have whatever they fuck i want them to have to represent me >:)

knowing me i'll keep this design and maybe change TINY details

also im sure i made the color palette blobs early into drawing it so i wouldnt trust them if i were you, this mf went thru a LOT of colors

Fuck it I'm feeling impulsive and will write short summaries of my recent, more well-rounded character stories

Pillow Brain- Featuring mostly anthropomorphic animals, a terrible rabbit with the power to bring nightmares to life and bend the dream realm at her will, terrorizes everyone for centuries until she's finally killed by her 12 yr old daughter. Now Rem Omens (her daughter) has been spending the last 10 yrs running around and destroying her mom's remaining nightmare minions, while growing increasingly weaker becaude she hasn't slept the last 10 yrs since her mother managed to survive in her dreams and will kill her if she falls asleep.

Bug Town- A rotten town (mostly consisting of 8+ ft tall bugs) that is subjected to corruption and crime. A giant millipede (Cab) is forced to impersonate a missing detective to make ends meet, as he is paid by police to stand at crime scenes while the officers loot it. Unfortunately, a murder happens right in front of him and he is left with two orphaned baby spiders (Spooky and Woot), jobless and blame left on him by the police themselves. Cab then teams up with a visiting bipedal elephant (Rosck) and his teenage spider daughter (Seven), to try and untangle the web of filth and dishonesty in the system, and find the culprit behind the murder.

Beach Bikers- Each beach has a cool motorcycle gang protecting it from pirates. They ride on their sand motorcycles, camp out on the shore and have regular tussles with neighboring gangs. This story's main characters feature two cooks, Varnika and Taiyo, as their beach bike leader gets possessed by an evil leech parasite and they in turn consume fish containing creatures that invade their dreams, give them cool powers and help them get their leader back.

Fall of the Eye Zone- a peppy otter and a mutated hummingbird (Cookie Dough and Mirrikki respectivley) discover an eye-shaped meadow crawling with eye creatures, plants, everything. Ex-residence of one of the most destructive and dangerous scientist/people in the Saltyverse (Magenta), she spent 3 years there experimenting on the surrounding ecosystem before abandoning it. Now they have to try and help the victims of her work by destroying the Eye Zone, as they are unable to escape it otherwise.

D.E.D World- A respected scientist, known for her extravagant dog breeds and other dog-related work, has a secret life of picking homeless kids off the street and "adopting" them. She uses them as free labor and guinea pigs and is basically an abusive, terrible mother. One day, her "problem" child, Jabe (the one who never listens to her) finally makes her snap and she decides she'd rather have her kids be more obedient, like dogs. After mutating them with a formula, the now dog turned kids have to explore the lab searching for ways to escape and turn back human. (Good news is that in the end she dies and they not only return to humans, but also get a better adoptive family and therapy.)

Desta the Dreamer- a young adult (Desta) discovers that magical humanoids often stage the dreams of humans in order to eat the emotions they feel from it, and dives deep into the ecosystem of the dream world. Also they fall in love and become part of a polycule with two of them (Quinn and Riya)

Holey Wonder- An astronaut fails to return to their ship and faints while in space- but wakes up safe and sound in a strange new place, only left with a bit of amnesia. They're greeted by a friendly gal (Goby) and introduced to the warped world of a black hole, full of strange people who wanted to dissappear from the universe, for one reason or another.

Highschool with Other Dimensions- a human is accidentally enrolled into a school full of intelligent creatures from other dimensions, all sort of like the "humans" of their worlds. They want to learn how to share dimensions with other intelligent species, for a multitude of benifits. All non-human students get their form altered to a "humanoid" shape so that they can comfterably use all facilities and resources, (and because human stuff is cheaper). The human befriends six siblings that are very mysterious and basically demigods, and they have lots of fun shenanigans together.

Fruit Citizens- A world of fruit-based humanoids exists in a giant dome, open to the outside world for viewing. They try to work and live a happy life, ignoring their glass prison- but eventually, a few of them have enough. Read more about them on my other blog, @fruit-citizenship
