World-building a Diverse Landscape
Tumblr media
If you’re working on making a big and immersive world for your story, NaNoWriMo writer Siera Schubach has some tips for building different kinds of landscapes into your novel:
The wonderful part of writing fantasy is you don’t have to rely on reality.
However, there is much inspiration that can be drawn from the real world that will enhance your worldbuilding efforts.
Landscapes in particular can lend believability to your fantasy world, as well as inform plot and character creation. Here are a few ideas and tips to help you on your worldbuilding journey.
Think Outside the Forest
When we think of landscapes, a few broad categories may come to mind:
Desert
Forest
Mountains
Plains
If you look at the landscape of any country, you will see variations on each of these broad types. There are high deserts filled with sage brush, and coastal deserts flanked by ocean. Mountains can be tall and sharp, or sloped and smooth. And forests can grow trees in every size from as tall as the giant sequoia, to as small as pinyon pines.
In my travels this summer, I have seen some beautiful landscapes I never knew existed. Here are few that have inspired me:
Pyramid Lake, Nevada
Great Sand Dunes, Colorado
Badlands, South Dakota
Panther Creek Falls, Montana
Cove Palisades, Oregon
Tip: If you are unable to travel, a browse through google images or national park websites can lead to some interesting discoveries.
Landscape and Character
Landscape informs character in ways we don’t always consider. We have all been shaped one way or another by the physical landscape in which we grew up. Whether it be our understanding of the world, or just what we feel comfortable living within.
Say you have a character who was born on an island. They woke up each morning with the sound of ocean waves, surrounded by hibiscus flowers and mango trees. How might they be affected if they were suddenly moved to a desert?
If your fantasy world consists of non-human species, then landscape can also have an impact on their physiology. How might a character who grew up in a high mountain landscape have adapted to living in high altitude?
Take a moment and consider how you have been shaped by the landscape in which you grew up. How have your experiences changed as you’ve moved to different environments?
Now consider one of your characters. How have they been shaped by the landscapes they experienced?
Nature is Messy
Nature impacts us in a multitude of ways everyday. Whether it be allergies, or rainstorms, or a steep climb up a hill. Your characters should have the same relationship with it.
Consider the difficulties that can arise as they encounter different landscapes. Remember, there shouldn’t always be a path. Let your characters wade through the water, get tangled in the underbrush, lose their shoes in the mud.
Difficult terrain can be a catalyst for an argument or confrontation. Waiting for the tide to go out could lead your characters to finally have that difficult conversation. A beautiful view can inspire someone to admit their true feelings.
Let your landscape inform character decisions in the same way our real natural world informs our own.
Tip: Take a walk and pay attention to the landscape. What plants do you encounter? What beauty do you see?
Embrace the Unusual
We tend to view landscapes in simple terms. We can easily imagine a forest lined lake, or a desert brimming with cactus. But what about large rock formations in the middle of a plain? Or sand dunes at the base of verdant mountains? These are the sorts of unusual landscapes that make a world feel believable.
As I’ve written before, there is no need to know every single detail of your fantasy world before getting started. Instead, consider these ideas as you write and discover what makes your fantasy landscape unique. Challenge yourself to go beyond the basic lines of landscape to something a little more interesting.

What if…
What if Hiccup shot down the Lightfury instead? Some of the editing isn’t good, just a forewarning but enjoy!
A fish is thrown into the cove with a moment later of nothing Hiccup peeks through a gap in the rock with a shield half his size, looking around cautiously. Again nothing to be seen, not even anything to hear. Hiccup tried to go throuw with his shield but it go stuck, deciding to go under he pulled on the shield again only for it to be stuck tighter in. Hiccup grabbed the raw fish by the gills looking around for the snow white dragon.
Tumblr media
Then he heard a snort from behind him, turning around he saw the Lightfury crouched on a rock like a stealthy leopard. It slowly came down from the rock, growling as she did so, approaching him ready to pounce at any hostile movement. Hiccup swallowed his fear as he held out the fish like an offering. The Lightfury with much suspicion studied him as she slowly approached, she smelled a familiar metal and her eyes fell on his waist. The dagger was in his belt. The dragon hissed taking steps back arching her back as Hiccup reached for it realizing that, that was the reason it was growling.
Tumblr media
As he held it he got another threating growl. Hiccup paused carefully, lifting it by the handle and tosses it away. The dragon didn’t find it enough as she nodded her head to the pond with a growl, Hiccup picked it up, with his foot, balencing it before throwing it to the pond with a plot.
The Lightfury stood up abruptly with elegantly and calmness, she was aware that the dagger was the only weapon the boy had on him so there was no point in her being hostile if he wasn’t. Besides he was thin, scrawny and full of fear, it wouldn’t be fair if she kept up the threatening nature.
Remembering that he had the fish Hiccup held it out again, she the fish sniffing out as she slowly approached and opening her mouth to which Hiccup notices missing teeth. He distinctly remembered seeing teeth in their first confrontation.
“Huh, toothless. I could've sworn you had... A set of razor sharp teeth emerge from the Lightfury’s gums to grab the fish snatches and gnashes it up, swallowing it completly. “... teeth.”
The teeth retract again as the Lightfury licked her lips, she looked back at him almost expectantly as she approached him causing Hiccup retreat nervously. “Uh, no. No, I don't have any more.”
Tumblr media
The Fury backs Hiccup against a rock going to the the same position as their first meeting. The dragon closed in over him and after a tense moment she gagged until half a chunk of fish onto Hiccup's lap. A bit disgusted Hiccup looks around confused as his eyes met the Lightfury, exchange stares, the Fury looked down at the fish to which Hiccup realizes what she wants him to do. Hiccup crouches slowly and squeamishly picks it up. The dragon waits expectantly. Hiccup gags and gnaws off a bite of the slimy fish. He forces a smile. Toothless mimics him.
Amazed, Hiccup sits up and tries to touch him. Toothless HISSES and flaps off to a crash on the other side of the cove leaving Hiccup with two thoughts. 1. ‘She was like a snow angel, white as snow and an angel, a violent one but an angel, Snøengel (How to pronounce: Snow En-gel) seemed like a good name.’
And 2.
‘I wanna touch her’
She blasted down at the mossy ground until it burned at reached a warm temperature for her to lay down on, better then the cold grassy ground, and curls up on it like a giant cat. Hearing a noise she looked up to a nearby tree where a bird flew, something she missed dearly, before she noticed Hiccup seated beside her giving a small wave.
Tumblr media
Snøengel decided to tolerated his persistent presence as she turned her body around and used her tail to cover her face since he did give her food after being stuck in this cove for weeks... until Hiccup inched forward and tried to touch her damaged tail. Snøengel moves her tail and uncovers her face to look at him with a ‘what are you doing?’ face, Hiccup immediately stands up, takes the hint and leaves.
Tumblr media
Later in the night Snøengel hangs upside down from a tree like a bat waking up from a small slumber she spots Hiccup still here sitting on the other side of the cove sketching in the sand. Hiccup uses a stick to draw Snøengel, not noticing that the real Snøengel  moved and appeared next to him watching carefully. Aware of her presence Hiccup continued not wanting to scare her off or annoy her like before pretended not to notice her and finish his drawing.
Snøengel’s head tilts upwards at the retaliation that it was her the human was drawing, and idea forms in her head and walks off with Hiccup finally lifting his head up to see her break off a branch and moments later reappears next to with an entire branch in her mouth drawing lines in the sand around him.
She rushes here and there, making lines in every direction even accidentally hitting Hiccup in the processes. Finally Snøengel drops the tree and inspects her work nodding at her masterpiece with content. Hiccup stands and takes in the sprawling scribble, amazed by the fact that a dragon understood what he was doing and even tried copying him by doing the same, he walks around but accidentally steps onto one of the lines, eliciting an instant growl from Snøengel. He looking up just as fast he lifted his foot up and she stopped, testing a theory he stepped on it again causing another growl and again.
Hiccup stepped over the line stopping Snøengel from growling and standing up straight, with a smile Hiccup carefully stepped between each line moving swiftly at every turn as if in a trance, turning round and round until he reaches the end. A strong breeze in his hair makes him realize Snøengel is behind him and steps back. Once again, they're face to face only this time without any hostile nature. Hiccup slowly extends his hand like before erupting a growl from the dragon. Hiccup took his hand back, he had an idea, a stupid one but he wanted to at least test it.
Turning his head away and closing his eyes he reaches his hand out Snøengel looks at it, he trusted her enough to not attack him as he willingly looked away from a predator that could easily snap him in half. Snøengel hesitates… and then bridges the gap, pressing her muzzle against Hiccup's hand. Hiccup feeling her smooth snout looks up in astonishment before she shifted her head back. With a snort she leaves as quickly as she used to fly.

a/n: AWW THIS IS SUCH A CUTE PROMPT <33 ty to whoever requested it, i did my best to carry out the prompt, i hope you love it!!
̩͙✧ ₊˚𖦹
ever since kiri, arrived, i was obsessed.
not in a creepy way.
but i love spending time with her.
and teaching her about the ways of my village.
she’s so funny and kind and beautiful.
like the other day, when i was teaching her about the sea animals.
i was showing her a fish i knew a lot about and was telling about all these cool facts i learned about it growing up.
and everyone i took a breath to look at her, she’d be smiling with her bright curious eyes on me.
and earlier today, when we met up for morning feast, or break-fast as she calls it, she came with her two front hair strands in little braids.
and two hair clips i have on either side of her head.
she was absolutely glowing and i just, i couldn’t stop smiling!
she looked so cute!
and now it’s later and all of us are on the beach.
we’re supposed to be training them with their ilus.
“hey.” kiri whispered to me as we stood next to each other on the beach.
i smile and glance at her.
“you wanna get outta here?” she asks.
i look over at my siblings as they teach the sullys about ilu behavior.
“yeah, let’s go.” i whispered back. we tiptoed away from the group until we were far away enough to run and not get noticed.
i took her hand and we ran into the jungle of the mainland.
“where are you taking me?” she laughed.
i turn and hold both her hands in front of me. i look up at her excitedly.
“i have a spot i want to take you to. i think you’ll love it!”
she nods and i continue to lead her through the jungle.
we finally reach a clearing and i push giant leaves out of my way to reveal my favorite spot on the whole island.
a cove with a waterfall. the most relaxing place i’ve ever known.
plants and flowers surrounding the pool and vines hung from tree to tree over it.
“woww.. it’s just like the forest at home.” kiri gushes as she stared at the wildlife around her.
i watch her in admiration as she stared at birds fly by.
“yeah, i.. i sometimes come here to be by myself.” i told her.
she looks down at me and smiles.
“come. i have another spot to show you.” i smiled.
i take her hand again and we walk around the pool to the giant boulders where the waterfall was formed.
under it was an opening where you could sit behind the waterfall.
we sit down next to each other and despite the load chaotic noise from outside, the waterfall made little noise where we were.
i watched as kiri stuck her azure striped hand into the water. it splashed on her palm and she giggled at the sensation.
i laughed softly at her reaction before she shook her hand and the water droplet got all over me.
i rolled my eyes and wiped it off my face.
“very funny, forest girl.”
“i know.” she smirked.
i sit with my legs crossed, facing the water.
tell her, tell her, tell her, don’t miss your chance, tell her!
“how do you like the island so far, kiri?” i asked her nervously.
“that’s the thing, you’re the best part of it.” she chuckled.
i don’t think she knows i took that seriously because my cheeks are heating up so much, i think they might catch fire.
i laugh nervously in response.
“but seriously..”
ugh.
“..i love learning about the island every day. and your culture and your people.” she smiled.
she’s so perfect.
“that’s nice. i’m glad you’re comfortable here.” i said.
“and i’m also happy to have a new friend.” she nodded.
“what about all the friends from your home? don’t you miss them?” i asked.
“oh.. yeah. i didn’t have many friends in my old clan.” she admitted.
i look at her confused. “you’re joking.”
“no. i’m serious. the other girls always thought i was weird because.. well, you know.” she hold up her hand and wiggles her tiny finger.
i laugh and put her hand down. our fingers end up interlocking and our hands stay there.
“i didn’t think that would be possible.” i said.
“i know you think i’m very cool and beautiful but the other girls never felt that way. so the only friends i had that i were a girl were my mother and little sister.” she said.
i chuckled softly.
“that’s kind of sad, kiri.” i said.
“i know.”
we stayed like this for a moment.
“but you have tsireya now too.” i said.
“huh? oh! yeah, of course tsireya.” she continued.
i look at her suspiciously.
“is she not a good friend to you?” i asked her.
“no! no, she’s great! it’s not like that uhm-“
“so-“
“let me start over.”
i laugh softly and watch as she takes a deep breath.
“i like ao’nung as a friend. i like tsireya as a friend. but with you… i like you just not in that way.”
my heart started pounding.
“i think i know what you’re trying to say..”
she sighed out in relief.
“but you can say it still.”
“you’re seriously gonna make me?” she laughs out.
“i mean.. yeah.” i shrugged.
we both laughed softly. she sighed.
“i like you, y/n. since i got here and you said hi to me first. you were so nice and i just.. fell for you. really.” she admitted.
“aw, kiri..”
“so.. will you be my girlfriend?” she asked nervously.
i was so excited that i threw her arms around her and hugged her, squealing in excitement.
“aw, kiri! yes!” i laughed out. she laughs and hugs me back with one arm, the other holding her up because my whole body weight was on her.
i picked my head up to look at her.
she watches me for a moment, looking in admiration, before my lips crashed against hers.
her hand gets lost in my hair as she holds my head. i smiled against her lips.
we helped hands all the way back to the village and spent the rest of the day together.
when i got home for what kiri calls dinner, my family asked why i was so smiley.
kiri wanted to be a good girlfriend and ask my parents for permission to take me out on a date.
my parents already like kiri and i know they’d have no problem with it, but she wanted to do it her way.
and it made her happy, so i kept it a secret for now.

Another year can the gentle winds of winter be felt across the island. Snowfall accompanies it soon after, blanketing much of the island in glistening shades of monochrome. Breathes unfurl into wispy puffs of white, steam rising up from the hot cocoa that sits in the cool air that keep your hands and body warm with each sip. Winter has come and, with it, another time for activities that promote holiday cheer...
As a note: these activities are separate from any ongoing or upcoming events and you are free to participate in both! Just keep in mind that WinterFES activities do not count towards ranking up because this is not an event.
WinterFES activities are available until January 31st! We will be adding additional activities at some point during this two month period as well!
FIBONACCI WARD
BUILD-A-GINGERBREAD MAN High-tech meets sweet treats in this customized kitchen. For a price of (dust), citizens of Spirale can use screens to design a gingerbread cookie to their likeness. You can watch machines behind the glass cut, bake, and decorate your cookie as you command. You could make a gift for your friend… or make a cookie that looks like your worst enemy, and bite off their face. There’s something for everyone!
SOUPS UP For the duration of December a giant pot of soup can be found in the center of Fibonacci. The type of soup changes from day to day, and how it replenishes nobody is quite sure! Regardless it is free for the taking and never dries out. Could this be the work of our goddess Ofiuco? Or could it be something more sinister? (It isn’t more sinister, it’s free soup.)
ICE TO MEET YOU A station has been set up in Fibonacci where you can come to view and sculpt ice sculptures. If you destroy any creations that are not your own, expect to have all of the Dust emptied from your account you jerk. All sculptures must be safe for work.
COTES WARD
QUID PRO SNOW Wandering in Cotes, it’s not foreign to see pixies, especially in their playground. However, it seems they’ve invited their frosty little cousins known as frost fairies over to play a few games with them… and you! Making your way into here can land you a pretty sweet reward, given the price you pay. That is, these fairies will be more than happy to make you anything you wish out of the snow and ice were you to give them a small treat or a gift of their liking.
I’M GOING GHOST… INTERACTING! Traveling through the Forest of Airaisal, one can find a passageway that mysteriously opens up on its own, leading to a path less traveled. Whether you choose to take it or not is entirely up to you. Electing to traverse it, you’ll find yourself in a small, private glen where you will encounter the ghost of your past, present, or future self. Whichever appears is up to you, though once it appears you’re welcome to interact with it as you deem fit. Maybe you want to console your past self that everything will be alright? Or perhaps you’d like to reflect on your present self, or at least the one that exists before you arrived here in Spirale. There’s also the option to speak to your future self, on what they think of you now, or maybe guidance on what might come. The possibilities are endless…
NOM RANCHING Visitors to the ward, especially around the Eternal Tree, will come to find magical marshmallow treats that appears to be causing chaos due to magical means! Whether it’s pelting themselves against passing visitors, knocking precious things over, or merely just circling about as a chaotic distraction, it’s clear the only way to keep them in check is to capture them and have a sweet treat so they don’t overwhelm  the area. Hopefully you came with an empty stomach and a sweet tooth, to boot!
GOLDEN WARD
SNOWFLAKE SCAVENGER The Mermaid Cove Mall planned on having dancing snowflakes as an attraction, but it seems the snowflakes formed a mind of their own and… danced right off of their displays! Deciding to salvage the situation, the mall is now making a game out of it–find five of them and bring them back to the desk, and you win a gift card! Watch out, though. The snowflakes are notoriously hard to capture, and seem to take your own strengths into account… This won’t be an easy task!
XTREME ICE CHALLENGE The ocean shores of the boardwalk have become completely frozen and boating is no longer possible nearby. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t fun to be had there! An obstacle course has been made for the daring complete with icy ramps, jumps, and obstacles.. Come with skates or without, but the organizers take no responsibility if you slip and break your nose.
SILVER-WHITE WINTERS For the duration of WinterFES, Spirale University is offering a different selection of classes related to the season. There are knitting classes where you can learn to make mittens and scarves, latte art classes to help you decorate your warm drinks for the season, and general classes to help you learn to wrap presents like a pro!
ARCHIMEDES WARD
CAROLS OF THE BELLES On evenings in the Archimedes ward, ringing through the streets from the Calliope Theater courtyard, you’ll hear voices as lovely as the singers using them. A chorus known as the Winter Belles begin their lovely lyrical lineup, and the concerts are free to attend. There are also a few open slots to join them, as long as you attend chorus practice.
CRYSTAL FUNHOUSE This large palace is made entirely of ice, and from the inside, one can hear chimes through its halls. Inside are several attractions: a mirror room, a hall full of beautiful ice sculptures, a complementary shaved ice bar for those crazy enough to eat them in this weather… But follow the chimes, and you’ll enter the ballroom, which is completely dark save for the tile floor. Each step you take makes a note that sounds most like you, and the ballroom lights up to the tune of your very soul as you dance across the floor… …What would happen if two people danced together?
YOU BAKE IT YOU BUY IT Throughout the Star Trail, many stalls have been shifted around in order to make a large area for those who wish to put their skills to the test in what seems a continuous bake off. Not only that, but it seems they require volunteers to be the judges of the savory sweets that are gonna be pumped out throughout the days. Fancy yourself an excellent baker who can blow the socks off of any taster who tries your dish or those who wish to place their palettes to the test? Well, have a seat and be served… quite literally!
MISTWOOD
TERRES-TREE-AL DECORATING Once more, a safe passage has been made into the Mistwood, leading to an area called the Traveler’s Garden. Some might remember the need to plant more trees and won’t be surprised to find that those planted back in Spring have now sprouted rapidly and is ready for decorating! Those who planted them can find them in the same spots with several boxes around them full of holiday decorations to get them decorated and ready to shine bright for the snowy season. Oh, and no worries, even if you weren’t able to plant one back in Spring, you’re still more than welcome to help decorate them!
TIS THE SKI-SON In a clearing that breaks off from the decorating, various large hills of snow have sprung up from out of nowhere. Trekking up to the top or taking a ride on a few snowmobiles manned by some island residents will reveal that it’s a makeshift ski and snowboarding attraction! Once fitted with one of your preference, as well as given a safety helmet and goggles, you’re free to slide down those slippery slopes and show off to your pals. Or maybe you’ll just biff it as you catch sight of that rumored dragon in the distance as you ski on down!
SWIRLING GULF
SOMETHING SEEMS ICE-FISHY While the Swirling Gulf can still be accessed, it would seem that a large portion of the waters nearby has been magically frozen over in a thick sheet of ice that can be reached with their submarine transportation system, allowing many people to walk with ease across it. Several holes have been drilled into it as well, allowing people to partake in ice fishing! Though a various amount of fish can be caught, there is also the risk of danger that you may be (un?)lucky to find a murderous large fish at the end of your line. But that could just be a rumor, right? No way there’s some large ghost fish or dangerous sea creature that you could reel in, right…
SNOWMANNING THE FORT Deep below, found in various areas of the sunken city such as the Mainland, Coral Bay, and even near the Kelp Forest, snow that never melts has been brought down and packed into areas where many can build snowmen to their liking. Laced with bioluminescent qualities that offer you any type of color, you can make colorful creations come to life with ease. Not only that, but once completed, the snowman will imprint the emotion belonging to its creator, expressing itself in an exaggerated display on how they currently feel. Whether they’re the happiest they’ve ever been or happen to be a little Scrooge-y at the time, these snowmen are ways to express yourself from the bottom of your heart.
THE CITY OF GLASS
ONSEN AND OFFSEN Recently, there’s been some magmatic activity closer to the surface on the back side of the volcano… suspected Nuee Ardente Society activity. Nothing (too) dangerous, though, and in fact, it happens to be below a spring source, turning the small ponds and water pools around the area into hot springs! Despite the snow blanketing most of the rest of the island, the areas immediately surrounding the pools are kept clear, mainly by the hot cocoa vendors who are taking advantage of this sales opportunity. Be careful, though, because the magma flow isn’t constant, and the temperature of the water can fluctuate in either direction, for better or for worse.
JUST THE WAY YOU LIGHT IT Leading up to the natural tunnel that gives access to the renown Garden of Ash, many might take note of a beautiful array of lights and colorful flowers that are laid out like a path into the garden itself. It’s highly encouraged to take this path at night, where many hand strewn designs light up in the dwindling hours, also illuminating the various plants which grow in the ashen soils, all while making the already falling ash even more snow-like to fit the snowy landscape the island has become. Some of the lights can even reflect of any glass in the vicinity, creating an almost kaleidoscope effect that can take the breath away of onlookers.
SUNSET CIRCUIT
RINK AROUND THE CIRCUITS While more daring skaters might take fun in Golden Ward, more casual goers might find a bit more joy in the ice skating rink set up on the shores of Moon Beach where the waters have been frozen over and smoothed out. Even more alluring, the ice beneath seems to have a mesmerizing array of glowing colors that light up and forms into playful patterns beneath the ice to the beat of the current playlist. Whether you bring your own ice skates or have them provided, you’ll be sure to have a blast gliding along the top of the neon colors!
SNOW FUN ALLOWED There’s a designated arena, full to the brim with snow that never seems to run out, dirty, or melt. Events take place not only throughout the day but also well into the night, with the arena being well-illuminated even at the darkest of hours. A good portion of the arena has been set up with barricades and obstacles for the ideal snowball fight zone, with regular switches between free-for-all or team games; the remainder has been sectioned off to protect any poor bystanders from errant deckings in the face, and is much more for making snowmen, snow angels, or any other sorts of snow activities you can think of.
SKY-STREWN ISLES
AN UPLIFTING WINTER FAIR Life has gathered from far and wide to partake in a wintery celebration that spans the entirety of The Uplift. Snow falls from the sky and gathers on the area's many steps, and it would be quite a tumble if you were to slip and fall down them. You can find all manners of stalls, selling things from warm treats to winter clothes and toys. The perfect place to take a partner or friend to in order to enjoy some hot cocoa!
DON'T LOOK OUT BELO(H NO!) Because of the colder, snowy weather, steep slopes and ramps have formed between the isles and have been repurposed for the Ultimate Skiing Experience. Just keep in mind that you are jumping between flying islands, and there is absolutely no service available to save you if you fall. That means it's best you have wings, levitation, or know someone who does to come with you!
THE ECHO
CAROL OF THE (C)OLD ONES Even the Abyssal denizens in the Echo seem to be in the festive spirit. Taking the new crystal elevator in the museum lobby leads visitors down to the depths of Abyss, letting them out in a place that looks like a banquet. In this 360 degree crystal dome, the shadowy monstrosities outside the barrier begin to manifest... except they all seem to form a choir of beautiful, ethereal voices. As guests have dinner in the dome, they may see the shadows put on spectacular light shows in the darkness, like stars in an ever-present void. This is a formal event, dress for the occasion!

“The young ornithologist fumbled with his sketchpad as he climbed up the side of the grassy bluff trying not to make too much noise. His ongoing study of sea birds brought him here to the coast, to this particular cove where a flash of purple through the trees caught his eye. As he carefully approached the top, he peered through the grass to see the giant purple bird. However what he saw was no bird at all!”

Stolen Shots
The giant redwood trees seemed to shrink as the RV rolled down the road. The long haul back to Sunset Bird had already begun, and the RV's seven passengers were ready to head back home.
. . .
The bright rays of sun rest against every visible surface inside the vehicle- especially the sofa. Seeing this, you decide to sit on the counter across from it. After all, you had no idea just how hot it might've become from baking beneath the summer sun for so long.
Cove seemed to have thought the same thing as well. But unlike you, he climbs up to the safety of the heightened loft, releasing a breath of relief as he lays down.
"Tired?" You ask, raising an eyebrow.
He mumbles something incoherent in response, making you smile a bit.
Deciding to let your friend rest, you move your attention to the digital camera in your hands. You had taken tons of photos of everyone during the trip, and you felt like now was the best time to look through them.
. . .
A few hours pass. At this point, your ma and your sister, Elizabeth, walk out of the bedroom on the other end of the RV. Ma sets herself down onto the couch (huh... guess it wasn't that hot after all), and began to read a brochure she picked up as everyone left the park. Kyra approaches her and the two of them start talking.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth yawns into her hand before noticing you on the counter.
"Hey Codey. Did you sleep?"
You shake your head and shoot back your own question, "Good nap?"
"Eh. Could've been better if Mr. Holden wasn't at the wheel."
"Hey," Mr. Holden chimes in. He looks towards Elizabeth through the rearview mirror, his small smile turning into a slight grimace. "I heard that!"
Your sister shrugs indifferently. He obviously meant that in a jesting manner, so- like many other things- his words didn't bother her.
She then turns her attention back to you, crossing her arms. Her eyebrows raise as she leans closer, trying to take a peek at whatever you're doing.
"Are those the photos you took?"
"Mhm." You respond lackadaisically, continuing to click through the gallery.
"Let me see what you got," she says, leaning her head in even closer. "I want to make sure you didn't get any gross stolen shots of me."
"Pfft-" That made you laugh. "Sure. Here."
You let her stand next to you as you tilt the camera to show her the screen. You click through each photo, starting from the ones you took in the beginning of the trip. Elizabeth would sometimes tell you to stop and take a closer look at the photos she's in; and if she thought her face looked weird, ask you to delete it. You easily shrugged off her requests by teasingly saying that you'd just "cut her out of the printed picture anyway." But eventually, when she'd had enough sibling-bonding time, she returned to the bedroom and shut the door.
Hm...
Now that your sister was gone, a sudden wave of boredom washed over you. You look around the RV; Ma was now showing Kyra something in the brochure, Mr. Holden was busy driving, and Mom was quietly listening to the radio in the seat next to him. You had no one to talk to.
So, why not take a few more pictures?
. . .
The first thing that caught your interest was the resting figure of your friend in the loft: Cove.
From where you were sitting, you were unable to tell whether or not he was sleeping. He hadn't removed his glasses, and the way they tilted against his head made him look a tad wonky.
Tumblr media
Oh, you just had to take a picture of this... He'd be so embarrassed when you showed this to him later!
You raise your camera, aiming for the perfect shot. The longer you took to aim, the more you noticed just how peaceful your friend seemed to be while asleep. You noticed the way the sun seemed to highlight every distinctive feature of his from behind -- especially his seafoam green hair.
Least to say, through your camera, he looked a little too photogenic-- It was almost surreal...
. . .
Click.
Without realizing it, you had taken the stolen shot. You hastily click through the gallery, staring at the image the second you found it.
It looked perfect. He looked perfect...
'He really is pretty, isn't he?' You thought, smiling to yourself.
... You couldn't wait to see his reaction to this when he woke up.
First writing portion! Not the best, but it was fun to do!
This was lowkey inspired by the way I (irl) like to take stolen shots of my friends. They think they look weird, but I enjoy seeing how natural they all look in each photo <3 :D

I 100%-ed Banjo-Kazooie, again. This took me 6 hours and 40 minutes
Tumblr media
Thoughts on each world under the cut because why not!
Spiral Mountain has peak music and it’s a great tutorial level.
Gruntilda’s Lair is amazing with how whimsical it is, Grunty having her face plastered in almost every room, each world’s entrance looking like it’s from an indoor play place, the music! It’s great!
Mumbo’s Mountain is definitely a first world, nothing too crazy going on but nothing is truly bad about, comparing it to first world of Tooie tho there’s far less stuff to do, I mean Tooie does start you with all the moves from the previous game so makes sense. A pretty decent first world.
I died multiple times in Treasure Trove Cove for some reason, but it’s a pretty good world as well! I have no strong opinions on it like Mumbo’s Mountain but it’s definitely a step up compared to it.
Clanker’s Cavern is a good water level idc what anyone says, you hardly spend that much time actually under water, even when you are the longest you’ll be in it is when you’re releasing Clanker of his chains. You spend most of it on, in, or around Clanker, ITS A GOOD WATER LEVEL AND A GOOD WORLD!
Bubble Gloop Swamp is definitely another world lmao, nothing bad about it again I just have no strong opinions on it, it definitely exist, I will give it props to having some memorable set pieces like the giant gator head and the huge turtle.
Freezeezy Peak is one of the best snow worlds, one reason is that ice physics don’t suck mainly due to Kazooie, and also CHRISTMAS ITS ALL CHRISTMAS THEMED, gets you into the festive vibe just by listening to the music and looking at all the set pieces! I did lose to Boggy twice someone, my hatred for Boggy has now been established. It’s also the only time you absolutely need to backtrack and I think it’s fine in this game.
Golbi’s Valley sucks mainly because I usually remember what jiggies are where with the set pieces around them, EVERYTHING IS SAND AND PYRAMIDS HERE IT SUCKS! My personal worst world in Banjo-Kazooie but not because it’s actually bad but because of the fact I can’t remember where anything is.
I can’t remember a single thing I did in Mad Monster Mansion, which is weird because I like it but I guess there aren’t any like really memorable set pieces bedsides the main mansion in the center of the level and the maze I guess. It’s still really good and gives off the Halloween vibe!
I actually don’t dislike Rusty Bucket Bay as much as I would’ve thought, especially compared to a certain other world. You only need 3 things in the oily water and it’s not that hard to not fall off into the water so it’s not really an issue, and the Xbox version fixes the music notes issue so the engine room is fine, I mean I never usually die in there anyways but ya know lmao. Only gripe I have with it is there’s no set pieces other than the Boat itself, and I did have to look up where the last empty honey comb was (didn’t have to look up anything else in any other world) but ya know pretty decent world!
Idk if it was because I was really tired and it was late but Click Clock Wood has gone to one of my favorite worlds to one of my least favorites, it’s mainly due to the fact I kept falling down the damn tree and the fucking birds have horrible hit boxes and would knock me down the tree whenever I would try to kill them. Other than those two things the concept of going to through the same level multiple times but the seasons change showing the passage of time really cool! The winter section is probably my favorite but that’s probably because there’s no birds and hardly any enemies. I did have to look up where the last jiggy was for this world, I forgot that there was one in spring all the way at the top you need to get with the bee lmao. Pretty good stage I just hate the birds.
That has been my Ted talk and you’ve been watching a fish, smoking a cigarette (I’m gonna hate Banjo-Tooie)

The first two chapters of Part 2 of Lenora’s Lament were inspired by Say Yes to Heaven
My Tom Riddle Fanfiction.
Summary of Part 1 below
If you haven’t read Part 1 this is a huge spoiler!
Tom and Lenora were friends since Year 1 at Hogwarts. They grew apart until he found her after she had been attacked by two classmates. Tom agrees to teach her dark magic and they soon become entangled in each other.
He offers her the chance for revenge and she takes it. Their relationship deepens but she slowly descends into power and pain she can’t control. After she proves to be a threat he has no choice but to erase her memories, she awaken and Tom warns the death eaters she is never to know.
Being part of their world, the secrets are bound to reveal themselves.
Lenora’s Lament: Part 2
Chapter 2: Say Yes to Heaven
Malfoys Lakehouse was buried under Alder and Blackthorn trees. A white plat house with blue shutters.
“It’s very muggle” Lenora’s mother once said in her ear. A large lawn spread to meet a heft dock in the front. The lake was large enough to meet the horizon, hidden coves and hearty forests surrounded the property.
Lenora thought it was one of the most beautiful places on earth. Abraxas answered the door in sunglasses, “Well hello pretty lady” he did a spin and she jumped in his arms to hug him.
“Oh I missed you!” She said grinning. Tom stood behind him with a stone face.
“Oh hello Riddle” she smiled warmly at him, “We missed you at the end of the year”
Tom nodded but remained stoic, “Thank you for your concern Miss. Rosier, I had other activities that called my attention”.
“Of course” she said, “I don’t know what I’ll do next year without you to compete with”. The atmosphere was awkward.
“I’m sure you can find other ways to motivate yourself” he was no longer looking at her.
Her mother looked at her sympathetically and then looked at Abraxas who shook his head.
Long before their trip he had personally made sure to plant the seeds of their messy breakup in all of their parent’s minds.
She was in tears it was awful Mrs. Rosier, we find it best we don’t mention it. She agreed wholeheartedly.
Her parents guided her in as they made niceties with the elder Malfoys. Abraxas beckoned her to the next room; she followed where Avery and Nott sat.
“Hello boys” she said happily saddling next to Avery, “please let me you have a flask of anything” she whispered.
Nott reached into the pocket of his pants and handed her one smiling . She took a drink, “Theo what would I do without you”.
She sighed taking another drink, “I don’t think I can deal with the great lord riddle sober.” She missed the look Theo and Avery gave each other.
Two hours later, the flask kept getting passed around. Avery had the bright idea to go on the lawn and start a bonfire.
“Incendero” he yelled pointing to the fire pit in the middle of some chairs they had arranged. Nothing happened.
“Incenderroo” he slurred and Theo laughed when the fire once again wouldn’t light. Nora was too busy testing the limits of the bottomless flask to correct him. Abraxas finally took it from her and set it on the floor next to his guitar.
“Incendio” a clear voice behind them said, the fire lit.
“Tom!!!” Abraxas yelled. Tom had Black and Mulciber in tow. They sat to join, Tom held his hand up when Abraxas offered him the flask but Black took a giant gulp.
It was a little too quiet, they sat as the fire crackled. It wasn’t lost on the boys that this was the first time they were all together since the duels. Even Tom was quiet, staring into the fire. He felt Nora gaze over him for a moment, studying his face.
Black was the first to speak, “Accio guitar”, he caught it with one hand as it flew to them. He laid it on an empty chair and charmed it to play. Soft music filled the air.
“We need some girls” Avery said sighing.
“Excuse me?” Lenora said and Nott laughed.
“Not that way Nora” Avery laughed, “I just meant you know to dance”.
She scoffed, “So? I can dance”
Most of them laughed but Black looked at her intently, “Then dance”.
Lenora gave him a cheeky smile, but Tom scowled.
“Cut it out Black” he said sternly.
Lenora gave Tom a funny look, “What? You don’t think I will?”
Black held his hands up and raised his brows at her.
Lenora stood slowly, she walked past them to a more open area. The fire lit her against the dark of the evening. All of them watched as she twirled, she lifted her hands up and traced them back down her body until she met her own waist and spun again.
Black whistled and she moved her hips slightly before busting out into laughter. The guys all watched with bated breath. She moved to the melody seamlessly, her eyes had a playful look.
Lenora put her head back and looked up at the stars. In that moment she felt so perfect, she felt free.
The fire lit her face with a gentle glow, her skirt rippled against her soft swirling waist in the breeze. Toms hands gripped the arms of the chair, his knuckles were white. When she moved her hips he had to turn away. This is what you wanted, you wanted her to be happy. Besides she was in your way. Let. Her. Go.
Suddenly she looked through the fire and met his eyes. Tom watched her as she walked towards the chairs slowly.
“Well?” she stopped for a moment, “is anyone going to dance with me?”. She addressed them all but only looked at Tom.
They all looked at him. Abraxas quickly sprung to his feet, “Come on trouble” he said pulling her away and spinning her as she laughed.
Tom looked at Black when they were out of earshot, “Back off” he cautioned.
“Yes my lord,” Black said ignoring his tone.

The Nightbeast
Don’t point (or gesture at all really, but specifically point) at the moon. Else the moon will think you’re planning on stealing her, and she’ll send her beasts after you. In the morning they’ll find nothing but scraps of cloth and animal prints, too large to be natural.
Long ago there were two moons in the sky. And they weren’t really moons, because if you watched patiently you would see the moons slowly disappear out; as if it were two eyes, slowly blinking at you. The giant nightbeast never interfered with folks so folks never interfered with her. Until one day rumors spread that some witch was making a spell, a really powerful one, and she needed a special ingredient. Some folks heard it that she was planning on going after the nightbeast.
No one thought she was really going to do it. Half the folk thought she weren’t really making a potion, and it was all scuttlebutt. But one night when the moons were big and bright and full and the stars were all shining, there was a terrible sound. It echoed over the oceanfront, and the buildings trembled. The birds screamed and the dogs howled. People thought the world was ending, and it felt like it almost did what with the giant waves that crashed into the ports.
Finally, the world went quiet. Folk were so busy getting ahold of their nerves and their beasts and raging at the destruction of their livelihoods, they near missed it. There were only one moon in the big dark sky now. One single harsh-looking crescent, when before people had gone to bed there had been two lovely round disks.
They didn’t know what to do, so they went to the witch. She greeted them with a glassy, white eye, hanging from her neck. Well obviously, folks could do a bit of short thinking. They knew she’d gone and taken the eye from the nightbeast. Some were scared that the beast would take its terrible anger out on everyone, they wanted to take the eye back in hopes of appeasing the night. Others were scared the witch would kill them afore they could do anything about the eye.
One fellow, brave some called him, but stupid is what my grandad said, snuck into the witch’s house one morning. He knew that witches do their work best at dusk and night, so he waited till he thought she was sleeping. He snuck in with plans to kill the witch and take the eye back.
Well, one man, a boy really, against a witch who’d stolen from the great nightbeast isn’t much of a fight, is it? The whole harbor could hear his wails and screams for days. No one dared go near her home. The trees and vines that grew around it got darker and seemed to swell. They grew strong, and barbs that leaked some black goo began to protect the house. When folks heard nothing more from the boy and the witch, his family held a burial, without his body. They thought him dead.
But then, strange things, well, stranger things, began to happen around the town. Streaks of bloody claw marks appeared on building walls. Small game, rabbits, birds of prey, even a young deer once, showed up in alleyways, torn apart, half-eaten. Town thought a seacat had come up from the coves, but the fishermen insisted that they’d never seen a seacat with paws as big as these marks. Never seen a seacat only half consume its prey.
Whispers went around town that the witch had cast a curse on the boy and turned him into her pet beast. She’d taken the nightbeast’s eye to make a foul spell or hex, and the boy had been her first experiment. Next she’d be planning on cursing the whole town. Folks even talked about moving away. They never did. We never do. But the things that tie us here . . that’s a different story of course.
Anyway, turns out folks were dead wrong about the witch and the beast. At the next full moon, with only one unblinking eye staring down at us, a woman were telling some visiting seafolk about the nightbeast and the stolen eye. She waved her hand enthusiastically at the sky, caught up in the momentum of her story.
Folk later said they could hear her screams, mingled with something else; almost human sounding. Almost sounding like that stupid boy who’d tried to kill the witch. The next morning all they could find of the woman were scraps of her shirt, and great big pawprints in the muck and blood.
Some say that if you die trying to do something good for the nightbeast, or the Moon gods, or in service to the stars, the nightbeast might bless you and turn you into one of its own land guardians. They say never to gesture at the moon, otherwise you’ll make the nightbeast think you’re planning on stealing its one good eye, and it’ll send its own beasts after you.
That old witch’s house still exists. It's at the heart of that big bramble forest, up on the hill out of town. Course, the brambles and trees grew so big and dark, you can’t see the house anymore. But it's definitely there. I’ve a cousin who got close enough to touch the brambles; she wears a thorn she cut off around her neck for good luck.

I don't know if I'm gonna do more than this any time soon cause theres so much and I'm lazy xD But here are some of my HCs/ideas based on the locations on Neverland!
Most of Neverland is covered in thick jungle and forest land (the blank spaces of the map included) The rest of Neverland consists of hills, mountains and valleys with some open plains and magical areas that seem to come and go off the map as the island wishes it.
Most of the names the places on the map have were named by children and or Peter Pan, which is why a lot of them are silly/fun. The magic on the island always tries to make the areas it has more fun and beautiful to lure children into staying there.
To the NorthWest of the island are a lot of rocks and rivers, consisting of Shipwreck rock, pirates plunge, dead man's cave and Birdbath Bluff. I think Shipwreck rock got its name from the light from the never star reflecting through the Bluff's gyzer blinded Pirates and sailors and had them crash agains the rocks. This area is also used in Return to Neverland, as there are waterfalls and rivers that act like slides and fun rides down into deeper waters, its there where Pan hid Hook's treasure in Dead Man's cave and where Jane found it later. In the jungles below this area, Hook's treasure cave is located.
To the NorthEast of the island is both Hangman's tree (Pan's hideout) and the more 'spooky' parts of the island. Its up to the furtherest northeastern part of the island where locations like Tanglethorn marsh and batwing bog is located, a darker and more treacherous part of Neverland where more nocturnal creatures live, wolves on midnight hill, bats in the bog etc. Hook doesn't like this part of the island with the only exception being that of Skull Rock, his favourite place to drown and torture those who are traitorous against him.
The East of the island is where Mermaid lagoon is located and below that, a series of waterbound caves that run through the edge of the island, where secret grottos and shipwrecks reside. There is also the crystal caves and the valley of roses. Its a very alluring, 'pretty' part of the island with exceptions such as Snake Forest where some of the biggest snakes in Neverland live.
The South of the Island is where Hook spends most his time in Cannibal cove/Pirate cove. There is some speculation as to what this cove is called, in further adaptations after the 1st movie, the cannibal aspect of it was gone. I HC that once, long ago, adults/children who could not survive on the island ended up eating one another to survive and this all changed when Pirates like Hook began to reside in these waters and soon the name was changed to pirate cove. Apart from this feature, the majority of the North of the island is, again, consisting of jungle and trees, there IS the big beach that spreads across Neverland, as well as Crocodile creek that leads up to rainbow falls and into the mountains.
To the SouthWest of the island there are more plains and open fields, it still has plenty of jungle, but it is here where there lives most the bugs in Neverland and where the magic has made them unreasonably large, such as giant beetles and butterflies. This area can be dangerous if not careful, plants such as snap-dragons that literally bite and eat people are also found close to here, as well as the cave of Golden Twilight, where the fireflies reside.
At the West of the Island is the Indian encampment, the people there washed upon the shores of Neverland many, many years ago and today their descendants are now what you would call the human natives of Neverland. They live with the island and have learnt to live with its magics, they mostly stay close to the encampment and jungles to the west of the island. Part of the jungles this side of the island is where the Tiki Forest resides, a cluster of living trees that speak and dance.
The Never Mountains, the very centre of the island is where the most secrets are hidden and where most of the many valleys are. The Neverpeak is the highest mountain in the whole of the island, at the very top its mostly snowy and where the Neverbird lives. There is an icy part of the mountain where theres a frozen valley, there are also places like Nowhere and Somewhere valley, deep dark valley and a few canyons, such as echo canyon and cannonball canyon. Belch mountain is the volcano that lies dormant on Neverland, it seems to smoke a lot of the time and the rumblings from below make it sound like burping, the gas that travels from this mountain make the crystals from pipe organ plain rise and fall. It is also deep within the middle of Neverland where Pixie Hollow is and where no human can reach. There is also the source of all the magic in Neverland, the Forever tree deep within the Neverpeak which is protected by both fairies and Pan alike.
Islands/isles surrounding Neverland are very small and are mostly uninhabitable, fun places to hide treasure of go for games. Places further from the shores are islands like the Coral castle and Skybird Island, there are also many others that are dotted amongst the Neverseas as well as dangerous and gentle sea creatures alike.

Just keep in mind that WinterFES activities do not count towards ranking up, because this is not an event.

Thalassa
TW: Child abuse, Domestic Violence, Murder, Violence, Sexual Content
Thalassa (/θəˈlæsə/; Greek: Θάλασσα, translit. Thálassa, lit. "sea"; Attic Greek: Θάλαττα, Thálatta) was the general word for 'sea' and for its divine female personification in Greek mythology.
Eavinary is a continent in the world of Vesela. Vesela is a realm where gods walk freely in different parts of the world. Most of them are found in Eavinary. These gods aren't a lot like you're used to seeing. These gods, while they are immortal, can die just like any other mortal when it comes to being mortally wounded. They can only die from unnatural causes. Among these gods are the more well known ones. Life, Death, Sun, Moon, War, and Disease. They're the most known and the most feared.
The moon goddess is all six year old Aurora looks up to. She's read stories about this goddess, has heard how kind she is and how she could never hurt a soul. It's a good escape when you have a drunkard dad that comes home every night and beats your mother while you hide under your bed. And it goes on like that for the next ten years of their life. But everything changes when they turn fifteen and tragedy like never expected hits. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Being a little girl in a world full of gods and goddesses was certainly a difficult concept for a six year old to handle, especially when you were surrounded by nothing but bad things and evil people.
When Aurora was six years old, her mother meant the world to her, she was her knight in shining armor and no one else could convince her otherwise. Her family lived in a relatively small village on the coast of the continent Taemora. Taemora is a sprawling landmass, characterized by its breathtaking diversity of landscapes. Towering mountain ranges, crowned with snow-capped peaks, stretch like the spine of a slumbering giant along the northern border. These mountains are rumored to hide secret valleys, where ancient tribes guard long-lost treasures. Or that's what her mother told her stories about.
To the west, a vast, untamed wilderness unfolds, a realm of dense forests where colossal trees seem to touch the heavens. Deep within these woods, whispers of sentient flora and elusive forest spirits capture the imagination of daring adventurers.
As you venture eastward, the terrain transforms into a vast expanse of rolling, emerald-green hills, reminiscent of an artist's masterpiece. The plains were home to nomadic tribes who had mastered the art of horsemanship and whose grand caravans traversed the land in an endless dance of life and tradition.  Towards the south, the continent meets the sea with dramatic coastal cliffs that plunge into a crystalline, bioluminescent ocean. Here, hidden coves harbor pirate legends and rare, elusive sea creatures, while vibrant underwater cities of merfolk thrive in harmony with the tides.
Her mother told her all kinds of stories about the gods and where they came from, that no one quite knew, but that she did. "The Aurora Borealis, which dances in the northern skies, is believed to be a bridge between the mortal realm and the land of the gods, where the divine and the earthly converge." The soft voice of her mother echoed in her head, reminding her of how her name came to be. She'd go on and on about how the gods had blessed her mother with her existence, which is how she got her name, that she was the mortal who would unite god and man as one.
As her childhood continued, she lost faith in the gods, each new day a new bruise and the same grumpy brunette man screaming at her mother. The few times she spoke up, she shared a similar bruise to her mothers the next day. It got progressively worse into her preteen years when she started going by the name 'Rory', their mother adored their name and thought it fit them well. Their father was livid, they convinced themselves that he just didn't understand and tried to give him time. But it failed every time. Everyday, one new bruise.
Eventually, they stopped speaking all together to avoid any conflict. From ages eleven to thirteen they were silent, hardly ever spoke unless Arthur wasn't home. Arthur is what they started referring to their father as, they'd referred to him as such since they were ten.
Manipulators often exhibit a range of common signs and behaviors that can help you identify their attempts to control or deceive others.
There were days where he was okay, the days when he was sober, the days he didn't recall any of his horrible actions and actually acted like a proper dad. One of those days, he tied a piece of pink twine into their hair and braided it down their back.
Charm and Flattery: Manipulators often begin by showering their targets with excessive charm, compliments, and flattery. They aim to create a sense of trust and admiration.
He'd compliment it, say it was a nice color and that they should change it to look like that some day. That they'd be such a good and strong person one day and even that he was proud of them. It gave them hope.
"..Dad?" Rory asked, glancing over their shoulder at Arthur as he braided their hair. "Yes sunshine?" He asked, a light hum in his voice. "...Why do you hurt mom?" They asked, bracing themselves for any form of violent action.
Gaslighting: Gaslighting is a form of manipulation where the person tries to make you doubt your own perception of reality. They may deny things they've said or done, making you question your memory or sanity.
"I don't know what you're talking about, I'd never hurt you or your mother sweetheart" He said, his voice light, almost innocent sounding. "You know that don't you? why don't I make you something to eat, what would you like?" He asked. Rory paused, turning and facing him again. "My friends say that their moms talk about how you hit her with a lot of things because you drink too much" They said.
Isolation: They may try to isolate you from friends and family, making you more dependent on them for emotional support and validation. This isolation can make it easier for them to manipulate you.
"I don't think these are good friends for you to be hanging around, they're putting this false information in your head, how about I get you more books and you can spend more time reading than trusting liars" Arthur said, going to the kitchen and starting on food, humming as he did so. "..But you hit me too, this bruise is from last week" They said quietly after having followed him into the kitchen, watching him turn to face them and come closer, kneeling in front of them. Manipulative Pity: They might pretend to be in a constant state of distress or crisis, using your sympathy to manipulate you into doing what they want.    "Oh Sunshine, I'm so sorry, I've just been under so much stress recently with trying to get a new job....I don't mean to hurt you" Arthur said, tears forming in his eyes as he started to hug Rory. "I'm so sorry baby, I really didn't mean to, I'm just so stressed and I need to be able to get a job so I can give you and your mother a better life" He said.
And they believed it.
The hope disappeared slowly overtime, disappearing entirely on the evening of their fifteenth birthday.
Rory never got much on their past birthdays, a book here and there, they were always happy with what they got. But every year their mother, Eve, never failed to get them a new birthday outfit. This year it was a pretty knee length powder blue dress with ruffles towards the bottom and they wore their pair of black dress shoes. She did their hair up in a fishtail braid and added a blush pink bow to the end of the braid.
"Look at you, absolutely gorgeous" Eve spoke, giving their child a kiss on the cheek. The faint purple of a bruise could slightly be seen through the makeup on her face, her ash blonde colored hair draped over her shoulders covering the bruises on her collarbone and neck. Her brown eyes withholding tears in them, breathing out she put a necklace around their neck, a pink seashell with beads on each side on a leather cord. "Perfect, now you're ready" She said. Rory stood from their place at the vanity, following their mother out to the dimly lit living area, seeing a table with a small cake with a singular candle wick in it. It burned brightly, and there was a gift on the table wrapped in paper.
They sat at the table, smiling at their mother as they unwrapped their gift, letting out a soft gasp when it was unwrapped. It was a leather bound book, upon opening it the pages were blank, it was a diary. "Oh...it's beautiful" They said softly. "Thank you mom-" They started, the door slamming open seconds later. The wind from outside blowing out the candle wick on the cake. It was Arthur standing in the doorway, very clearly intoxicated, it very quickly went quiet.
Abusers may overreact for several reasons, and it's important to note that their behavior is not justified or acceptable. Overreactions are often a manipulation tactic and a form of control.
"Did I miss you singing happy birthday?" He asked, his words slurring from the content of alcohol in his body. "No, I was just about to sing" Eve spoke up timidly. Arthur nodded towards her, motioning for her to start before pausing. "Wait, the candle isn't lit, can't you do a single damn thing woman? its a fucking candle for a cake and you can't even light the fucking candle, what the hell is wrong with you? useless bitch" He said.
"There's no need to overreact Arthur, it's Rory's birthday, I think you need to tell them something" Eve said. "I can react however I damn well please, and I don't need to tell her shit, I created her if anything I should be celebrated" He said. "Them, we talked about this, they don't like us using she or her, please don't disrespect their wishes Arthur...they're fifteen" She said. "Good! then I can go ahead and marry her off so she can stop wasting my time" He scowled. "Over my dead body you will" Eve said, gaining a bit of a back bone for once during the past fifteen years of her marriage. "She's my baby and you are not getting rid of her" She said.
Arthur went silent, sitting on the chair, avoiding eye contact. Eve cut him a piece of cake, bringing over a plate and handing it to him. "You know Eve, you really should be careful with the phrasing of your sentences" He said, grabbing the hand of hers that held the knife and twisting her wrist and grabbing it and stabbing her in the abdomen. After that first motion, he couldn't stop, he had dropped the plate and started stabbing erratically, all over here body. The blood soaking into the wood floor and her struggling to try and crawl away and failing as Arthur stabbed into her spine, stopping her ability to move her legs and she just let out weak cries and screams while reaching for Rory. Her child that stood only a few feet away, eyes wide in shock and unable to make a single noise or move a single inch as they watched their mother being butchered by the man who they used to call their father.
Control and Power: Abusers often seek to maintain control and dominance in their relationships. In some cases, killing or threatening to kill their victims can be seen as the ultimate way to exert power and instill fear.
Running was all they could do. Their heart was pounding loudly in their ears, feeling like it was about to jump out of their chest. Their breathing became shallow and rapid, it began to feel difficult to get air into their lungs, they collapsed to the floor behind their locked bedroom door. The faded echoing of slamming on the door. They felt hot and cold at the same time, and their chest felt like it was squeezing itself harshly, their hands were shaking. They felt nauseous and dizzy. They needed to move, they knew they needed to get out. They needed to run. They didn't know where to go, but they needed to run.
Panic is often accompanied by an intense and irrational fear that can be triggered by a specific situation, object, thought, or physical sensation. This fear is out of proportion to the actual threat, and the individual may have difficulty explaining or rationalizing it.
They set their sights on the window in their room, they blinked but suddenly they thudded to the grass outside their bedroom window and then they were running. They spread their wings out of their back and tried taking off the ground, jumping, crying, unable to catch their breath. They heard a crash from inside the house and gave up and started running and didn't look back. They couldn't turn back, not now, not ever. Their mother was dead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please stay tuned for new chapters every other Sunday on Wattpad. This is a story based on my minecraft lore based SMP called Wisper SMP, streamed on twitch every other week, told from the perspective of the water goddex Rory and things that have happened in their life.
