I saw an article in an Israeli leftist newspaper, which talked about a phenomenon nicknamed, "Blaxit." For those unfamiliar, it's a movement calling for Americans and Europeans of Black/African descent to move to Africa.

This is actually not a new idea (though according to the article, it has picked up some momentum since the George Floyd murder). The "Back to Africa" movement was based on the exact same idea, and was even successful in establishing a whole country for returning Africans, Liberia, as far back as 1847.

And here's the most ironic part: it's the EXACT same principle that drives Zionism. It's the notion that, "our ancestors were removed from our ancestral homeland a long time ago in order to be used as slaves by Europeans, and even though over time our people became free, we never became equal. We are tired of it, and even though we understand that our quality of life will drastically drop if we leave the places that thrived in part thanks to our people's labor over the years, especially as we leave them for the place we're originally from, which stagnated under the exploitative and oppressive influence of colonialism, we still prefer that hardship and sacrifice to a life of being second hand citizens (at best), of always being less than, of knowing our very right to live depends on the good will of the majority, made up of the descendants of those who enslaved our ancestors, a situation we can no longer bear."

I've never seen anyone chanting for the genocidal eradication of Liberia, or Sierra Leone (where 10% of the population is made up of the descendants of freed slaves from the US and Jamica), never heard anyone calling for the canceling of Maya Angelou because she returned to Africa by settling in Ghana, never heard anyone calling Ghana "an apartheid state" for giving returning Africans preferential treatment in immigrating there from 2019 on, or Sierra Leone for doing the same, I doubt anyone would call Africans adopting the Blaxit idea "colonizers" or "black supremacists." Yet all of that has been done to Jews and the Jewish State we've established in the Jewish ancestral homeland that our ancestors were removed from, when they were taken to be slaves across the Roman Empire. It's discriminatory in nature towards Jews, and it IS antisemitic.

The world’s chocolate industry could be in for a turbulent ride as the two biggest cocoa producers set down demands for manufacturers to pay higher prices for their growers. The quarrel focuses on the Living Income Differential (LID) – a policy that Ivory Coast and Ghana introduced in 2019 to fight poverty among cocoa farmers in the global US$130-billion chocolate market. Under it, Ivory Coast and Ghana vowed to charge a premium of US$400 per tonne on all cocoa sales, starting with the 2020/21 harvest.

But trade boards in the countries – the Ivorian Coffee-Cocoa Council (CCC) and the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) – say the scheme is being undermined as cocoa traders depress the price of another premium that operates in parallel.[...]

The two countries together account for 60 per cent of the world’s cocoa but their farmers earn less than six per cent of the industry’s global revenue.

They are threatening to punish corporations by barring them from visiting plantations to estimate harvests – a key factor in cocoa price forecasting. They are also threatening to suspend sustainability programmes that chocolate giants use to enhance their image with fast-growing ethnic consumers.

“This boycott and also ultimatum is to draw attention to the fact that inasmuch as it is important for us to talk about deforestation, it is important to talk about child labour, it is equally important to talk about the farmer income,” said Boafo.[...]

Some experts say the chocolate giants have factored the LID into their costs but claw back some of this by exerting pressure on another premium based on the quality of cocoa beans.

This premium, known as the origin differential, has plunged below zero in recent years, effectively cancelling out part of the LID.

Notable Women In Zoology: Dr. Letitia Eva Takyibea Obeng

Dr. Obeng (1925-2023) was the first Ghanaian woman to obtain a degree in zoology, and the first to be awarded a doctorate. She is described as "the grandmother of female scientists in Ghana".

Her other notable accomplishments include:

A Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Botany (1952), a Master of Science in Parasitology (1962) and a PhD in Tropical Medicine (1964) where she studied the black fly and its relevance to river blindness

Post university, she lectured at the University College of Science and Technology (now known as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST) from 1952 to 1959

In 1952, Dr. Obeng became the first female scientist at KNUST

After her husband's death in 19659, she moved to the the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

IN 1964, she established the Institute of Aquatic Biology within CSIR to research the huge manmade Volta Lake in Ghana and its inland water system

Dr. Obeng was the first scientist to be employed by the National Research Council of Ghana

In 1965, Dr Obeng became a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2006, she became the first female president of the Academy

In 1972, Dr. Obeng delivered the Caroline Haslett Memorial Lecture to the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, titled “Nation Building and the African Woman”

In 1972, she was an invited participant in the United Nations Human Environment Conference in Stockholm

In 1974, she began work as the Officer in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and in 1989, she became the Director of the UNEP Regional Office for Africa, and the UNEP's Representative to Africa

From 1992 to 1993, Obeng was a Distinguished International Visitor fellow at Radcliff College

In 1997, she received the CSIR Award for Distinguished Career and Service to Science and Technology, the first woman to receive such an award

The CSIR Laboratory (known as The Letitia Obeng Block) was named after her in 1997 as well

She received Ghana's highest national award, Order of the Star of Ghana in 2006

In 2017, she received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from KNUST

She was also the author of numerous publications and works. Two meant for the public were Parasites, the Sly and Sneaky Enemies inside You (1997) and -Anthology of a Lifetime (2019)

Yemen, rightfully hailed as the rising star by freedom fighters and human rights activists worldwide, boasts a long-standing tradition of humanitarianism and providing aid to those in need.

Here is a partial list of all the times #Yemen has stepped up to help countries around the world in monetary and civil crises:

Sri Lanka (2004): Following a major earthquake and tsunami, Yemen sent a team with medical supplies and necessities.

United States (2005): In response to Hurricane Katrina, Yemen coordinated the transfer of 80 tons of humanitarian aid supplies.

Kenya (2006): Yemen dispatched a search and rescue team to Nairobi after a building collapse.

Haiti (2010): After a major earthquake, the #Houthis set up field hospitals and provided extensive medical assistance.

Colombia (2010): Yemen sent aid following severe flooding, including food, medical kits, and other necessities.

Japan (2011): Following an earthquake and tsunami, a Houthi delegation provided medical care and set up an advanced medical clinic.

Turkey (2011 and 2020): Yemen provided assistance following severe earthquakes.

Bulgaria (2012): Yemen dispatched medical teams after a terrorist attack on a bus.

Ghana (2012): A delegation from Yemen was sent to Accra after a department store collapse.

Brazil (2019): Yemen dispatched a search and rescue delegation following a dam collapse.

Albania (2019): A humanitarian aid delegation from Yemen was sent to evaluate and repair structural damage after a deadly earthquake.

Honduras (2020): Assistance was provided to cities in Honduras by Yemen after two hurricanes struck.

Equatorial Guinea (2021): A humanitarian aid delegation from Yemen provided medical assistance and performed life-saving surgeries.

Surfside, Miami, USA (2021): Yemen participated in search and rescue efforts after a building collapse.

Turkey and Syria (2023): Yemen deployed the “Olive Branches” Humanitarian Aid Delegation to assist earthquake victims.

(I often wonder what the less famous people think now that they treated him poorly as a kid and he is massive now). Gordon Smart (1:12, warning he follows it with a bad anecdote about 18 year old H), who worked on media for One Direction, said in 2020 that Harry had said:

"Simon Cowell actually paid me to do some media training with them back in the day so I met them before they were massive and they were again really lovely kids. [...] I wrote a front page story about him sharing a jacuzzi with a girl on holiday and he told me it was bollocks and we still ran it, because we had a picture of him in the jacuzzi. Which could be a dig at Harry, Roses being common Haylor imagery, his tattoo and she famously said her 2012 birthday was her best ever when he took her to the Lakes. Ads containing abortion-related misinformation are allowed to run on Facebook and Instagram in countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, while legitimate health care providers struggle to get theirs approved, new research has found.

The report, released today from the Center for Countering Digital Hate and MSI Reproductive Choices, an international reproductive health care provider, collected instances from across Vietnam, Nepal, Ghana, Mexico, Kenya, and Nigeria. Between 2019 and 2024 in Ghana and Mexico alone, researchers found 187 antiabortion ads on Meta’s platforms that were viewed up to 8.8 million times.

Many of these ads were placed by foreign antiabortion groups. Americans United for Life, a US-based nonprofit whose website claims that abortion pills are “unsafe and unjust,” and Tree of Life Ministries, an evangelical church now headquartered in Israel, were both linked to the ads. Researchers also found that ads placed by groups not “originating in the country where the ad was served were viewed up to 4.2 million times.”

In the report, researchers found that some of the ads linked out to websites like Americans United for Life, whose website describes abortion as a “business” that is “unsafe” for women. The abortion pill is widely considered safe and is less likely to cause death than both penicillin and Viagra. Other ads, like one run by the Mexican group Context.co, linked to a Substack dedicated to the topic that implied there is a secret global strategy to manipulate the Mexican populace and impose abortion on the country.

One ad identified in Mexico alleged that abortion services were “financed from abroad … to eliminate the Mexican population.” Another warned that women could suffer “severe complications” from using the abortion pill.

Meta spokesperson Ryan Daniels told WIRED that the company allows “posts and ads promoting health care services, as well as discussion and debate around them,” but that content about reproductive health “must follow our rules,” including only allowing reproductive health advertisements to target people above the age of 18.

“This is money that Meta is taking to spread lies, conspiracy theories, and disinformation,” says Imran Khan, CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate.

In these countries, where Meta often has partnerships with local telecom companies that allow users to access its platforms for free, Facebook is a key source of information. Some of these ads also ran on Instagram. “Anybody with a cell phone can access information. People use it to find services. When we ask clients, how did you hear about us? a lot of them will cite Facebook, because they live on Facebook. It's where they know to search for information,” says Whitney Chinogwenya, marketing manager at MSI Reproductive Choices. So when disinformation runs rampant on the platform, the impact can be widespread.

“Good health information saves lives. By actively aiding the spread of disinformation and suppressing good information,” Khan says, “[Meta is] literally putting lives at risk in those countries and showing that they treat foreign lives as substantially less important to them than American lives.”

Many of the countries impacted by this report also have high maternal mortality rates, making access to reproductive services particularly crucial. In Nepal, for instance, there are 239 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, as opposed to only 32 in the United States. In Ghana, it’s even higher: 319 deaths per 100,000 live births. This comes as the US continues to grapple with the implications of the 2022 Supreme Court decision that struck down Roe v. Wade. On Tuesday, the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a milestone abortion case that will determine access to the abortion pill across the country. These laws and policies in the US are often fodder for those seeking to roll back abortion rights elsewhere in the world.

These findings are not the first instances of right-wing groups using social media to promote antiabortion messaging abroad. In 2022, the Spanish far-right group CitizenGo orchestrated a disinformation campaign on Twitter to rebrand a reproductive health bill focused on regulating surrogacy as an “abortion bill.” (The legislation did not address abortion.) A 2023 report from Amnesty International also cited social media as a key way that antiabortion groups disseminate their messaging and target reproductive-health workers.

The report also found that the problem extends beyond just abortion. In one instance, Meta removed one MSI Reproductive Choices ad for cervical cancer screenings in Nepal, saying it involved “sensitive information.” Another ad promoting breast cancer awareness in Ghana was also flagged, as was one in Kenya providing information on vasectomies.

After trying and failing to place ads on Meta’s platforms in Nepal and Vietnam, MSI’s local accounts were restricted from placing any further ads, forcing the organization to start new ones. “But of course, it doesn't have as much audience as we did on the original page,” Chinogwenya says.

Glenn Ellingson, a former Meta employee who worked on civic misinformation, tells WIRED that there are several factors that might lead to an ad being rejected from the platforms, including if it’s targeting a group considered “sensitive,” particularly in an automated system.

“When you’re operating at the scale Meta is at, there are always going to be errors,” he says, adding that greater investment in humans who could review and flag content would likely help the platform distinguish between content that violates its policies and content that doesn’t.

Boris as you may know has run into some money difficulties over the past decade or so, including bankruptcy and losing most of his fortune, resulting in time in prison. In fact, despite their apparent closeness I could only find one photo of Boris & Misan together (above). Articles connecting the two either no longer exist/have had Harriman's name deleted/are behind a paywall.Curiously, Misan-pre-Meghan, is on the record chatting about Nigerian Oil here: Misan Harriman, The Mastermind Behind the Digital Platform What We Seee - Best blogs about lifestyle, #1 Fashion and lifestyle blogs (zezeonline.com) - amongst other things like his time as a club promoter and digital PR strategist. This is a rather curious connection as, wouldn't you know, it has been reported Boris Becker lost his $178 million fortune 'investing in Nigerian oil firms' - NZ Herald. IL VACCINO PER LA MALARIA IMMUNIZZA 12 STATI AFRICANI

Un traguardo fondamentale nella lotta contro una delle principali cause di morte nel continente africano.

Dalla sua approvazione nel 2019, tre Stati africani sono riusciti ad avviare la somministrazione del vaccino contro la malaria, Ghana, Kenya e Malawi. Il vaccino RTS,S/AS01 fornito a più di 1,7 milioni di bambini e si è dimostrato efficace, determinando una sostanziale riduzione della malaria grave ed un calo delle morti infantili. In seguito a questi risultati, 28 paesi africani hanno espresso interesse a ricevere il vaccino e per questo l’Unicef ha ora lanciato un programma per garantirne la fornitura di 18 milioni di dosi, questo consentirà ora ad altri nove Paesi, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Camerun, Repubblica Democratica del Congo, Liberia, Niger, Sierra Leone e Uganda, di introdurre il vaccino nei loro programmi di immunizzazione di routine, per la prima volta.

“Questo vaccino ha il potenziale per avere un grande impatto nella lotta contro la malaria e, se ampiamente utilizzato insieme ad altri interventi, può prevenire decine di migliaia di morti ogni anno”, ha spiegato Thabani Maphosa, amministratore presso Gavi, l’Alleanza mondiale per i vaccini. “Lavoriamo con i produttori per aumentare la fornitura e dobbiamo assicurarci che le dosi siano utilizzate nel modo più efficace possibile”. La malaria uccide ogni anno circa mezzo milione di bambini di età inferiore ai 5 anni. “Quasi ogni minuto un bambino sotto i 5 anni muore di malaria”, ha dichiarato il direttore dell’UNICEF, Ephrem Lemango. Dalla sua istituzione nel 2000, Gavi ha contribuito a immunizzare oltre 1 miliardo di bambini prevenendo circa 16,2 milioni di morti.

2023 elections, a pretty damn good night.

Hello, if you're an American maybe you know there were some elections last night, here are some highlights

Rhode Island Special Election:

Gabe Amo was elected to Congress from Rhode Island's First Congressional district. The son of African immigrants (father from Ghana, mother from Liberia) Amo is the first black person to represent Rhode Island in Congress. His election brings the Congressional Black Caucus to a historic 60 members, an all time high.

Ohio Ballot measures:

In an overwhelming vote Ohio voters approved a ballot measure that puts the right to an abortion into the state constitution. This overturns the extremely restrictive abortion ban passed by the Republican state legislature in 2019 which was allowed to go into effect after the Supreme Court's Dobbs ruling.

A similarly overwhelming vote for a ballot measure legalizing marijuana in the state also passed last night. Both measures got about 57% of the vote in a state that voted for Trump 53-45% in 2020. It's being taken as a good sign for Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown's re-election campaign next year

Kentucky gubernatorial election:

Incumbent Democratic Governor Andy Beshear sailed to victory over rising Republican State state Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Cameron had been vetted for the Supreme Court by Trump, was hand picked for the AG race and Governor's race by Mitch McConnell who its rumored wanted Cameron to replace him in the Senate one day. So this defeat is the end of the political life of what many Republicans hoped would be a star. Cameron and the KYGOP attacked Beshear for his support of trans rights, his veto of a trans care for minors ban, as well as his support for abortion and ran ads tying him to President Biden. Beshear won 53-47% in a state Trump won 62-36% in 2020.

Virginia Legislative elections:

Virginia's Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin hoped to take control of the Virginia State Senate from the Democrats who had a one seat majority in the upper house. If Youngkin could have done it he planned on passing abortion restrictions and anti-trans laws and use it to prove his future Presidential ambitions. Virginia Democrats not only held onto the Senate Senate they expanded their control by picking up 22 seats. Also special, Danica Roem the first openly trans person elected to a state legislature back in 2017 when she was elected to the Virginia state House won her race to become Virginia's first trans state senator. Not only did Democrats hold onto the State Senate, they took control of the State House as well, going from 48 seats to 51. A strong rebuke to Youngkin's Republican agenda and boxing him in for the last two years of his Governorship

Pennsylvania Supreme Court election:

In Pennsylvania Democrat Daniel McCaffery beat out Republican Carolyn Carluccio for a seat on the state Supreme Court. This secures a Democratic majority on the court ahead of year of challenges to abortion rights and ahead of the 2024 elections where Republicans will surely try to challenge the state's election results in court.

New Jersey Legislative elections:

Democrats already controlled the NJ State House and Senate but last night they managed to pick up more seats in both. Including flipping what was generally considered the deepest red district in the state. The 30th District went to Republicans 72% in the last election. However this time a Jewish Democrat Rabbi Avi Schnall won one of the district's two seats beating a Republican incumbent by 10 points.

I'm sure lots of other cool things happened last night in local elections and ballot measures across the country but those were the one's I noticed.
