new episode was so refreshing! it really was something special and it finally brought insecurities of the triad to another level. they are finally communicating and discussing their feelings. would that have been better if that happened sooner? yes. wouldn’t that be great if they discussed rules for doing it in couples beforehand? definitely. but also let’s not forget that they are teenagers entering their first polyamory relationships. they could and they totally should make mistakes, argue, have insecurities - that’s how relationships work.

however, i am really disappointed with some akimax shippers as they try to villainize audrey and her not being okay with her boyfriends having sex. it’s not her fault that she feels this way and it’s definitely not something that she should be hated for. she’s what sixteen. she saw her parents getting divorced because the third person was involved, she saw her mother losing it because of their separation. i think that her insecurities have solid ground.

some fans saying that audrey is a bitch and boys should hookup behind her back is really childish. audrey's issues are complex and it’s not something so simple that she can get rid of in a minute. she will always be afraid of being left out because that’s exactly what she was seeing when growing up. audge makes tons of mistakes but she is allowed to feel what she feels. moreover, i think that aki and max are both wrong in the occurred situation. their biggest issue is lack of communication indeed because they don’t even tell audrey that they are not going to aspen. basically, she, like every sane person, thinks that they are keeping something from her. also, there is a scene where audrey is walking out of class and she was definitely expecting to see someone waiting for her. what she sees instead? aki and max being lovey-dovey in the school yard. yes, they are allowed to be this way because they are in relationships, but try thinking as a sixteen years old girl with a baggage of insecurities.

basically this whole rant is about encoraging people to be more supportive of audrey because starting from season one a lot of people here and on twitter are acting like she is the main issue on why akimax are not together. and it’s okay to ship akimax or maudrey or akidrey, but it is not okay to act like one person in the triad is an extra and the other two should live him or her.  that’s toxic.

I am not surprised the Gossip Girl Reboot got cancelled because it was boring and I couldn’t finish season 1. I think the creators thought having that property would be enough for the show to be successful and focused all of their energy on those outfits and soundtracks but did nothing for the show to actually work. My opinion on why the reboot failed to impact audiences that no one asked for:

It’s not like the original GG was a writing masterpiece but it came out at the right time. In 2007, while there were a lot of successful shows, a lot of the teen shows like The OC, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls etc were tame in comparation to the format GG was presenting. Aside from the UK (Skins), it was unusual for American TV to exploit sex and drugs on teens the way Gossip Girl did. They turned the negative reviews into promotional banners. That was A+ marketing. They wanted to be problematic. That was their selling point. So in theory, the idea of a group of wealthy teens from NYC doing all sort of awful stuff was appealing. The show wasn’t trying to be apologetic. Yeah, some issues were too much not just Chuck but so many other things but the point stands with the show not wanting to fix it. This with a really good fashion sense — GG really pushed the boundaries on fashion during late 2000’s. It was meant to be a hit ahead of its time. The problem with the reboot is that is not new or original. Euphoria already exists. Teens doing alcohol and sleeping around has been in media for a while and people crave something new. If they wanted to stand out they need so much more than just a known intellectual property but most importantly create characters with personality and sadly, that wasn’t the case.

The characters for the reboot lack distinctive personalities and it was difficult to buy why they were even friends. Like, the group on the OG worked because there was an established dynamic but every character in the new one felt like a parody. The initial conflict was them being mad Julien had a sister. For the OG, the initial conflict worked because at first Serena presented herself as a mystery – as the IT girl that ran away and no one knew why. That increased her mysterious persona and her popularity. She ran away because she slept with Nate (Blair’s boyfriend) and while she was away Blair managed to establish herself as the IT girl. That made the rivalry between Blair and Serena more believable and so Serena's dynamic with Nate. Blair had reasons to feel insecure over Serena because she had the influence and wealth to out power her. They tried to recreate that with Zoya and Julien but failed miserably.

I think every character in the OG group had a very established dynamic and propose. Serena was the mysterious girl that created the rivalry with Blair and also presented herself as a bridge outside of the Upper East Side because of her relationship with Dan. Blair was the "mean girl" — the one ready to create chaos if she feels like she is being displaced from her status. Julien never gave me that energy. Neither did Audrey. None of them were able to go the lengths Blair would go for a little drama. The closest thing to Blair they had was Monet and they didn’t give her enough to shine but that’s also the thing. Teen media keeps trying to recreate their very own version of Blair Waldorf but fails everytime. Every teen show after GG now has their sophisticated "mean girl" that is able to quote books and movies (aka Veronica Lodge or Cheryl Blossom) and it fails every single time. Blair worked because of what Leighton Meester brought to the table but also because Blair was actually really mean and unapologetic about it. She wasn't meant to be taken as a parody with some mean one liners. Her only characteristic wasn’t just being mean, it had realistic layers. And even when I feel she became a bit of a parody the later seasons because the show not longer needed her to be mean, I think she remained charming mostly because of Meester.

Serena worked on early seasons then she became unnecessary and boring. Her character only worked because of Blake Lively's charisma which I feel a lot of the new ones lacked. Then there was Nate. He was like, just there. He wasn’t that problematic until that season they made him date a minor for zero reason. I would assume GGRBs version of Nate was Obie (?) and that was such a boring character. Now, Dan was a good character until they needed to use him as a plot twist because they didn't know who GG was and needed a finale. Dan was the one that was inside the elite but hated it and brought interesting points about their privilege and had not problem in checking them once in a while because he was like the impartial one. Again, they tried to make Zoya the one that wasn’t in their circle but her character was just boring, the actress did good with the material.

And Chuck, he was introduced as a rapist from the get go and didn’t deserve to get as far as it got or even a "redemption". Blair deserved better and I will never go down with the Chuck and Blair train. Blair coming back to him on season 6 after learning her own value and worth outside of Chuck's shadow and toxicity only to make her regret it was character assassination. Chuck should’ve died on Season 4. Now, here's the thing. It was clear Max was supposed to be their unproblematic version of Chuck and it's a shame because Thomas Doherty was giving THE perfomance. I wish him luck in his career. Also, Savannah Smith as Monet did good when given good dialogue and stuff to deliver.

Jenny was an interesting character. It gave the show the outside drama it needed. Georgina was an amazing villain. Even Rufus and Lily served. GGRB had potential but didn't give anything interesting. OG GG embraced being problematic and the reboot tried too hard to be "woke". There's nothing woke about a group of wealthy kids (and not just any money but generational wealth for some of them) that don't need to worry about paying the bills. Maybe if they didn't take themselves so seriously it would've worked a lot better. They should've allowed Monet to be the mean girl she was clearly destined to be. Luna also deserved her own plot not just a sidekick.

Lastly, their biggest problem: GG being the teachers. The teachers story line made me cringe. It was so weird and unrealistic. The thing about GG is that it could be anyone. It was the anonymity that made it fun. GGRB fumble by giving GG a face and an underwhelming one too. In conclusion, while I loved the diversity of the new cast, none of them had the charisma on screen except for one or two on occasions and charisma is what carried the original series until a season 6.

i know they probably tried to edit it in a way that it feels like a series finale, but it’s obvious it wasn’t written that way with the introduction of julien’s and zoya’s storylines. and what was audrey talking about saying she made a new friend as well? we didn’t see her meet anyone

i honestly kept waiting for them to get a gg notification while they were in italy, but this time it would be someone unknown to us. the teachers were unarguably the worst part of the show and now the we finally got rid of them the show is cancelled :(

Happy for Luna but needed more Lunet content before the end 😞😞😞 WE MISS YOU LUNET. They should've at least had a finale shot with them, Monet's ending could not have been that.

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 ARE PRESENT so i’ve finally watched first two episodes of new season and i know it’s kind of early to say, but this season looks so much better than the first one. it's juicy and spicy, already filled with drama and it gets only better. so lets start, shall we?

triad it was annoying in the first episode, let me be hones. the storyline was repeating itself like in the first season, but i was really pleased to see luna supporting max and triad altogether. and also, really, those nervous comedic vibes from audrey and aki were so lame. glad that they resolved their issues and came out in the second episode cause i am so excited to see them embracing their relationships. it was an awww moment when audrey defended max in the end of second episode , and parents’ reactions to them coming our as throuple. so so so great, kiki was already my fav, but now i like her even more it's no secret that my favourite gg storyline is triad so i am most excited for them

julien and monet it gives original vibes. monet is the queen and juls needs refreshment. she was boring and for me she still is. so i am looking forward for the monet/julien beef to freshen things up. also, an ending of second episode - it gave an end of fourth episode of original, when serena took blair’s crown. i want to see more of this cause it reminds me so much of school years when original gg was thriving and all girls were fighting if they are team s or b. yes, i have when tv shows have those catfights and do not show women supporting women, but that is the whole point of gg, so i am letting it go

luna she is amazing. i was already in love with her last season, but right now i am loving her even more. how supportive and wise is she, how she knows exactly what to say or how to act. how great she is with her friends and how good she supports every storyline she is in. want to see more about her background still, but lets pray that this will happen this season

zoya/shan for me, zoya is still one of the most judgmental and annoying characters. she was all in with julien last season and now she is again against her. it’s so done, i am tired of it. shan, on the other hand, is exciting and refreshing. let’s hope that she will not be next jenny humphrey gone rogue lol

obie and grace   obie is still boring and unimpressive. i think even writers don’t know what to do with him. grace is so sweet that my teeth hurt. i wanted to skip all their scenes, so let’s leave it like that

overall, i am going to rewatch these episodes today later, cause i was at work when they came out. maybe later i will write even bigger essay on those episodes. also, is anyone up on analysing julien’s tips from the begging of first episode? i want to discuss them so much! like exposing max loosing his virginity, obie’s bribes etc. i want to make a post about it or simply discuss it with someone cause i have so many thoughts

The thing about the GG reboot is that it was boring and it’s possibly the worst show to be. It’s about a group of teens that are too wealthy to care about the real life world. The reboot tried to be "woke" in such a forced way too. They were too afraid to be messy. They had an inspirational conversation every episode, the original didn’t pretend to have self awareness.

Plus, a big size of their budget being dedicated to their clothing department is weird because the outfits gave absolutely nothing. GG is the perfect show to be extravagant and classy just like the outfits from the original were — they were using colorful coats, full gowns, capes, head pieces and gloves. Every character had a signature style and accessory. The reboot gave nothing but a lackluster IG inspiration look.

I feel like they shouldn’t have taken a show like Gossip Girl that became successful just because they were messy and rich if they were too afraid to be problematic and scandalous.
