omnes una manet nox. | i. vivamus, moriendum est.
cw. always refer to the masterlist. wc. 1.5k words.
detective's notes. here we are, the start of an era - take this as my 300 followers celebration. this chapter sets more of a scene and introduces the vast amount of personalities on our guest list.
chinju forest carries an aura unlike no other, bewildering to even the natives when it's compared to other sights in inazuma; from tsurumi island's mysterious fog to watatsumi island's mystical shrine, there is nothing that compares to the simplicity of chinju forest. flora that glow a turquoise blue in the dark of the forest with trees that tower and block out daylight and streams of fresh water that trickle between cracks in the rocks, chinju forest is indescribable with mere words. located at the heart of the forest stands the centuries old home of the kamisato clan, renown in inazuma for their glory and power. they're hidden away, distant from society and the prying eyes of strangers - just as they like it. so much so, that it felt odd for the kamisato siblings to host a social gathering at their beloved home. as heads of the yashiro commission, social events were not out of their line of work but yet it felt unfamiliar to see a courier scurry away from the estate with invitations filling their satchel. the younger sister reasoned that it was a gathering to celebrate the lift of the raiden shogun's tyranny, the sakoku decree opening up business to the rest of teyvat whilst the vision hunt decree's absence meant that many inazumans would no longer live in fear once more. in order to gain her older brother's approval, she offered that the gathering could be utilised for her brother's business matters, inviting some of the richest business people to wander teyvat.
the first guests to arrive at the hour of the gathering belong to the land of the archon of wisdom and verdure. they cling to each other in familiarity, a young green haired girl by the name of collei stuck at the sides of a taller, fox eared male and another male with shaggy silver hair. nilou keeps close to the akademiya's scribe and his expressive roommate, eyes of verdigris shades that stare around the wonders of chinju forest in a mild amazement buried by fear.
"what a place to live," tighnari comments amongst the group's silence, filled only by the sounds of their shoes on a stone slab path, "the flora here is astonishing, i wonder if they've had the sense to study it…"
tighnari's voice trails off as he crouches to stroke the leaves of the nearest plant with gloved fingers, the glow of the plant reflecting in his eyes as collei is quick to grab his upper arm, raising him back to his feet.
"master tighnari, we don't know if it's poisonous or not, stop touching the unknown plants!" she exclaims softly, drawing a laugh from the silver haired male as he tugs at tighnari's other arm, much to the fox's dismay when he grumbles under his breath about travelling back to inazuma at a later date. cyno nods in agreement, reassuring tighnari that they'll travel back so that tighnari may study these plants freely.
"collei!" a familiar female calls out into the silence of chinju forest, a brunette girl adorning red stands with three males and another young blonde girl. two of the males are taller, adorning red and blue hair respectively and carrying a tense energy between the two of them as they stand. beside the blue haired male is a shorter male in mint green attire, two small ombre braids framing his face. the blonde girl keeps her hair in pigtails, her eyes moving around the forest anxiously at every little sound, her fear shows clearly.
"amber!" the green haired girl returns in an equally excited voice, leaving the comforting presence of her friends to jog to the brunette, "i didn't know you was attending too?"
"yeah, i got an invitation while i was on a commission with captain kaeya - he invited himself and mondstadt's very own bard, venti!" amber beams, her grin widening ear-to-ear when diluc groans, shaking his head.
"when we get back to mondstadt, i'm teaching you how to say no to morons, amber." he comments lowly and kaeya clicks his tongue, a smug look on his tan face.
"don't be so harsh, master diluc, we're just here to bring more fun!" venti pokes into the conversation in a melodic tune, leaning closer to the redhead.
not far behind the mondstadt and sumeru friends is the elaborate and expensive atmosphere carried by the most notorious from liyue, freshly landed at the shores of inazuma's humid islands. the famous lady ningguang, the tianquan of the liyue qixing accompanied by quiet and gentle ganyu, acting upon being her secretary and the infamous captain beidou of the alcor not far on their tail. gossiping between themselves is the sweet, esteemed opera singer yun jin and the explosive pyro guitarist xinyan followed closely by the young lawyer yanfei, the leader of the arataki gang and the backbone - and sanity - of the arataki gang; arataki itto and kuki shinobu. lurking behind the crowd of famous liyue faces is the ministry of civil affairs very own yelan, stepping off the alcor last.
"is this your first time in inazuma, ningguang?" beidou chirps curiously, noticing the blonde woman's silence whilst the others gasp in awe of inazuma's brilliance. the moon reflects on the waves' ripples, calming yet eerie at what the night may hold in an estate full of strangers. ningguang sends a sly smile in the captain's direction, amused.
"i visited once on a business expedition before the sakoku decree was installed," the tianquan reveals even to the surprise of delicate ganyu, who's wide eyes find the taller lady instantly, "it's whimsical that not a thing has changed on the islands, isn't it? they've not expanded on their architecture or moved forward as society. the electro archon was succeeding at her beloved eternity, freezing her land in time."
yanfei gawks at the illustrious blue mushroom specimens sprouting in the tidal flats as the group walk, earning a confused look from itto.
"does liyue not have sea ganoderma?" he asks shinobu quietly, tilting his head like a lost puppy, "i've never seen someone like them. they're gross - have you ever touched one? man, they're crazy. slimy."
shinobu rolls her eyes, groaning more so to herself as she glances at the bigger male who towers over her. his appearance is terrifying, sparking fear into those who are unbeknownst to his oddly complicit personality, albeit perhaps she could even describe it as dense.
"sea ganoderma are native to inazuma, boss," she enunciates with a shake of her head, "why would i touch sea ganoderma - scratch that, why have you touched sea ganoderma?"
the bulky oni sends the small girl a sheepish smile, gritting his teeth as if he doesn't want to venture further into the story involved in that scenario. shinobu sighs exasperatedly, wondering what he'd do without her now.
already in loyal attendance at the historical inazuman estate is the firework maker's daughter, yoimiya - in all of her explosive glory as she carries crates full of fireworks designed specifically for the kamisato clan, even if she exclusively sneaked some of the naganohara family's special fireworks into the bunch too - and the fontainian news reporter, charlotte, who had arrived in inazuma days prior in an attempt to track the kamisato siblings and interview them before the event. she wanted the gossip, she craved it. she wanted to know how they felt about the decrees being lifted, the sudden shift in their beloved shogunate's political views and the changes in how she runs the country - not to forget their opinions on their own event, was they excited? did they have nerves? charlotte wanted it all, notepad at the ready.
"need a hand there, yoimiya?" thoma asks with a grin as he appears at the blonde's side, having just left the awfully awkward conversation charlotte was subjecting ayato and ayaka to. the blonde looks up at the taller male, returning an equally enthusiastic smile.
"you wouldn't mind, would you?" she laughs albeit a little nervously, realising the consequences of her decision not to enlist help from her father at this event. thoma shakes his head, lifting a crate of fireworks with ease, "just place it down over there, thank you thoma!"
the ginger chuckles, following the bright blonde's orders obediently as the courtyard fills with the rambunctious sounds of their guests from other nations, their faces joyous and filled with amazement as numerous of them comment on the architecture of the kamisato estate - kaveh, collei, yanfei and ningguang are few to name. the noise gains the attention of the infamous pale haired siblings, who venture over with warm, welcoming smiles and their hands clasped behind their backs.
"welcome to inazuma," the taller brother greets them first, his voice a low timbre that rumbles in his chest as he lifts his chin, shoulders pushed back with dignity, "even more so, to the kamisato estate. we hope that your journeys here have all been pleasant."
ayaka nods gently in agreement to her brother's words, eyes of glimmering blue waters hidden in a sheen of mist gaze over her invited guests, lingering on the likes of yelan and shinobu; strong souls with firm skin and an honourable reputation. a gentle silence fills the air following ayato's greeting and ayaka finds it in herself to utter her welcome from glossy lips, her eyes creasing into crescent moons when she tilts her head to the side with a smile.
"welcome to the kamisato estate, my esteemed guests."

Haunted
Chapter One | The Main Character
Ship: HeiKazuScara
Rating: M
Word Count: 1.4k
Description:
His mother always supported his dreams. Scaramouche knew in the beginning that he was going to be a writer and that his mother would ensure that it would happen. He just never expected the twists and turns of his life to be more interesting than what happened in the pages.

Scaramouche hates every day, but Sundays have to be the worst. His mother has always insisted that they meet up every Sunday, as it was one of the only days his mother regularly has off from work. However, he never quite liked that requirement. At first, he was fine with it, but slowly his life started to fall apart.
He was lucky, because of his own fucked up brain, the military did not want him. So, he was stuck. When so many of his peers went off to war, to make names for themselves, he was left to rot in his small, dingy apartment. His mother paid the bills, so he did not need to worry himself with work. After all, he was a writer. Why do useless activities when he can spend his time at his typewriter.
As the world changed, he stagnated. His apartment became too comforting. He never wanted to leave. Yet he still fulfilled the promise to his mother, and every Sunday he visited for exactly two hours and twenty-seven minutes. Three minutes before half-past five, he would take his leave, bidding his mother a farewell until their next meeting. He never missed their weekly visit, at least he tried not to. It felt disrespectful to avoid her. After all, her money was paying for the bills.
His mother was a trailblazer. From the moment he was born, Scaramouche knew his mother was highly intelligent. While she did struggle because society deemed, she should have found another partner when his father died in the last war, she thrived once she found her footing. The other mothers baked cookies for elementary school parties while she never had the time with her university classes.
She was always good at math. Said that while her work now is limited, that it would transcend Scaramouche’s very imagination. She wanted to create something that could visit the stars, but due to the war, found herself unable to get the necessary support for her ideas. Time would tell, and Scaramouche couldn’t wait to see it. He would love to see his mother succeed. She supported his dreams, so he promised himself at a very young age that he would do the same for him.
It is the least he could do.
Scaramouche found himself at a writing slump, the words refusing to come to him. Any time he would try to type, he just had to stop. The thing he loved, the one activity that kept him sane, caused his own mind to turn against him. He did not want to wake up in the morning, not even to take care of himself.
His mother grew worried as his weight decreased visibly week by week. His eyes started to grow bags, dark circles making his eyes look like they should pop out of his skull. Maybe that is why she admitted him into an asylum. She said it was for his own good at the time, and he believed her.
It did not help at all. His mind was still a mess, dark thoughts encircling every single part of his brain. It was like he was possessed. Nothing could help him. He knew that he would never get better. But he knew what the doctors did to those who never showed improvement. He saw the grins when the patients would bemoan about the way their brains work. He saw those same patients lose themselves. He never wanted to end up like that.
So, he lied.
He forced himself to sleep better, his eyes finally shining again. He ate, fat making his face look chubby for the first time in years. His voice became clearer as he made himself into another character in his own novel, with the goal of escaping. He could not stay here; he knew that one day his doctor would know he was lying. He assumed they already knew but could not prove anything.
Then one day they called his mother, and he was released. He kept the appearances, his character thriving in the life that he despised. His mother, while he still loved her, became the antagonist. She put him in there, to fix something not broken.
He was a doll, catering to her needs as a mother who was convinced she failed her child, not knowing that she became the thing she feared most. She looked so happy though, so Scaramouche doubted that his lies would hurt her. In fact, as the war raged on, she seemed like she needed it. Being forced to do math day in and day out and being stressed that if she were to fail, the nation she cared for would fall into ruin and flames hurt someone mentally. There were times he feared that she would end up like him.
Yet she never did.
His mother was always the stronger one among them. But he always wondered just how much it would take to make it all crumble to ash. All it would take would be a bomb to drop. So he ensured that nothing would happen. He kept up with his book, pages piling up on his desk, taking up far too much space.
Draft after draft, it never was quite finished. Page count would fluctuate, but that is about all that would change. He never wanted it to end. Because the book was what made his life mean something. If it ended, that meant that so would his purpose. The moment it would release, he could potentially get a few moments of notoriety before falling into the unknown once more.
He reasoned that after the war, he would be finished. That after the war, when things finally would calm down, he would finish his purpose. That is ridiculous to think about, as he was an older teen, not even in his twenties, but he was proud of it. He would take far less time to do what took his predecessors decades. He would be noted in the history books, his face remembered, for his novel would change the world.
Scaramouche knew he was vain, perhaps that was his fatal flaw. Why would his novel, his first one at that, even make a ripple in the water. But he had confidence, and he knew that he had something special in the works.
He grew more consumed in his work, not wanting to leave it alone. It was like some force guiding him to type, the incessant clicks of his typewriter being music to his ears. He started despising his visits more and more.
But Scaramouche never once got out of it. He could not, it simply would never be fair to his mother. She needed the ability to vent, even if it silently kills him every week.
Maybe that’s why he hated the last visit he had with her. He was almost finished. The last chapter, the final conclusion, being the only thing he was missing from his magnum opus. His mother did not understand. Outside of his time in the asylum, he never missed a Sunday. Yet, when he begged her to let him miss one, she acted as if this was her last stray.
She guilt-tripped him, he knew the tactic well. But he still went. He enjoyed the dinner, and just like every visit before that, refused to let his mother drive him home. He never liked looking at the news, maybe that was another fatal flaw of his. He only cared for his world, not the one around him.
He should have looked around at his surroundings when he went down the shortcut to his shabby apartment. He should have never been humming to himself. He should never have dropped his mask and started his incessant chattering. He was always taught that talking to himself was bad practice, yet when he was alone, he found himself unable to care.
He felt the hand first.
A leather-clad glove covers his mouth and nose, pulling him further into the alley, further into the shadows. In the many years the darkness surrounded Scaramouche, he found it comforting. Once again, the thing in which he sought comfort betrayed him. It feels suffocating.
And then his world is just surrounded by it, until no thought is able to enter his mind. Scaramouche’s world grew black, and no thought dared to cross his mind ever again. The only regret, even as he faded from the world, being that he wasted so much of his limited time on earth avoiding his novel.
But even that felt ridiculous as his life flashed before his eyes, the unwavering feeling of being cold washing over him worse than any cold shower ever could.
And then finally, peace from all the discomfort.

3 half-drunken cups of tea. Pieces of paper stacked onto each other, filled to the brim and overflowing with intricate words. The soft dessert he would’ve preferred if less sweet, but still 2 bites away from being finished. 1 lone figure, staring with disbelief into the now empty table they had tea and shared jokes at. Yet another wave of loss. How unfortunate.

A good night’s sleep was rarely achieved, and when it was, only through the help of Baizhu’s herbal medication. Even then, it wasn’t uncommon to wake up in cold sweat, a sign of the nightmares he had forgotten (or were they memories of the horror?). Sickly grey skin, thinned down hair and a pinched smile he only wears when retrieving things from his door.
After the traumatic events — the sudden passing of his husband, the death and disappearance of the detectives who acted as a source of comfort for him — Lovecraft couldn’t bear the haunting voices whenever he saw the now empty table or the previously blood-stained living room. He was all alone, now. Everyone who was once close to him was taken away, other aristocrats shamelessly whispering behind his back and his good-for-nothing parents only helped for the public image. All alone, and the sole person who’s alive amongst this mess played a part in his loss. How could she? How dare she? They were so close to him, and he cared for them both so dearly. They were one of the first to talk to him without having to remind him about his late husband. Lovecraft couldn’t do it anymore, everywhere he went and everything he did seemed to become pointless.
Now, instead of the sun-bathed streets, aromatic breakfasts from across the house and Percival sleeping by his side the aristocrat would wake up to, it was a dark and hollow room, always cold and stiff. The only scent that would be present was the smell of dewy grass when the window was unlocked, exposing a disconnected environment from society. It was a routine for him to stare at the polearm hung on the wall, across from where he sits for simple meals such as a cup of coffee (he no longer wanted to touch tea) and sometimes a piece of deep-fried dough sent to him by the detectives…the same ones who were once colleagues with Loqua and Snob, the same ones who tried to discover the story, to unravel the mysteries. Truly a shame that their tea-times were no longer.
Golden sunlight suited Liyue well, as if always engulfing the nation with wealth and prosperity, yet there will forever be places where the sun cannot enter.

“Calypso! My dear, finished observing the one who used to pride himself as an aristocrat?”
“Today’s the last day. We’ve made sure that his parents’ money funded towards the Feiyun Commerce Guild will be spent on our lawyers without having to worry about the Lee potentially ruining our plan. He’s a lost cause now.”

Heizou and the Murders of Tevyat: Inazuma - Prequel
Summary | Next Chapter
Hushed whispers followed the sound of metal clinking and heavy footfalls of the Tenryou Commission’s soldiers, feeding into the tense atmosphere of Watatsumi Island. Even the waters of Watatsumi were eerily still, motionless in fear of the storm brewing above the island.
“Is that Kujou Sara and her soldiers? Why is she back here?”
“Weren’t they just here yesterday for the peace talks?”
“Well, have you heard the rumors? With Kujou Sara here, that means…”
“It’s them… it must’ve been them.”
“The Tenryou Commission… we should just stop them right here and now!”
“Be patient, you know our orders. General Gorou called for their arrival. We are not to interfere unless ordered otherwise.”
Kujou Sara eyed the whispering crowd that watched her and her soldiers make their way to the Pearlescent Palace. But even the sharpest glare of a tengu warrior didn’t scare the crowd in the slightest. In fact, the crowd only grew as more and more people left their homes to catch sight of the Tenryou Commission on their lands. And those who were already outside dropped what they were doing - farm tools abandoned, toys discarded on the grass, and idle chit chat quickly concluded - in favor of joining in on the sudden commotion in the otherwise peaceful town.
However, even the dullest of soldiers could not mistake the crowd as someone greeting royalty or a famous celebrity to their home. No, it was far from that. The people seemed to act as one, watching with their dozens of eyes for any little thing that seemed off. Some sets of eyes glared at the passing group, while others were more curious, intrigued, and Kujou Sara would even dare say suspicious, though she couldn’t understand the reason for such suspicion. Sure, Kujou Sara herself knew that it would take time - a lot of time - for the people of Watatsumi to recover from the recent war, and it was understandable for them to hold a grudge. But this… this was far from the slight uneasiness of the people when the first peace talks were held.
The general took a deep breath. “Ignore the crowd, just keep walking,” Kujou Sara reminded herself as she shifted her eyes back on the winding road in front of her - the road that led to the very center of Watatsumi Island.
But it seems some of her soldiers couldn’t take their attention off the tense atmosphere.
“What happened here? I know they don’t worship the Shogun like us, but yesterday we didn’t experience… this during the peace talks,” one of her soldiers walking beside her whispered.
At least that confirms that she wasn’t the only one. She too believed the sudden rise in hostility was rather odd.
Making sure to keep her voice down, Kujou Sara warned, “I have no idea, but be on your guard.”
The soldier lowered their voice even more. “What did Gorou say in his letter again?”
Kujou Sara didn’t need to pull out the letter to recite the few words written by the Watatsumi Army’s general, “‘Come to the Pearlescent Palace as soon as possible for your actions. If not, I’ll personally find you myself’.”
It wasn’t just an order, let alone a friendly letter reminding them of the next peace talk. It was a threat.
The soldier began to fidget with their spear, nervously stealing glances at the crowd. “‘For your actions’? All we did was attend the peace talks…”
“That’s why we are here to find out exactly what happened,” Kujou Sara pointed out without a hint of hesitation. “The Almighty Shogun wishes to establish peace with Watatsumi Island after the war, so it is our mission to see to it that her wish is granted.”
Whether the soldier was satisfied with Kujou Sara’s answer or was lost in their own thoughts, they didn’t ask any more questions, and Kujou Sara returned her attention to the looming palace. For the rest of their short journey, she made sure to keep a neutral expression as to present a level of calm to the people of Watatsumi and her soldiers. No one else needed to know that while on the outside, she was a calm cloud passing by, on the inside, her thoughts were a barely contained storm.
It didn’t take Kujou Sara and her soldiers long to climb the coral steps to the Pearlescent Palace, but what mildly surprised the tengu was the number of soldiers surrounding the building. Even at the bottom of the steps, a few of Watatsumi’s soldiers blocked the crowd from following them to the palace. Were there really this many soldiers yesterday?
In fact, none of the Sangonomiya Shrine maidens were present either, which only raised Kujou Sara’s suspicions. When arriving for the peace talks, they were greeted by one of the Sangonomiya Shrine maidens before one of the soldiers came to escort them to Sangonomiya Kokomi, the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi. And then there was the other shrine maiden who led them to their temporary lodgings for the peace talks, which were near the outskirts of Watatsumi. So where are they now?
Before any more questions could arise, two Watatsumi soldiers on either side opened the grand doors to the palace, as General Gorou himself walked out with what could only be described as poorly tamed anger radiating off of him in violent waves. His hands minutely twitched at his side, as if itching for his bow, and the two soldiers who opened the door quickly moved to their general’s side in what looked to be a vain attempt at preventing him from snapping. The Divine Priestess did not accompany him.
In hopes to dispel the already hostile air between them, Kujou Sara cleared her throat before declaring, “Greetings, General Gorou. I have arrived after receiving your letter. Will Sangonomiya Kokomi not be joining us?”
“Youuuu!” Gorou growled before one of his soldiers frantically whispered something into his ears. But Gorou only shook his head and pointed an accusing finger at her. “You have the nerve to bring up Her Excellency after what you’ve done?”
The crowd that were stopped at the entrance began to whisper to one another again before one of the soldiers quickly shushed them. Even Kujou Sara had to silently shake her head to her soldiers, who looked like they were about to protest at the rather outrageous question.
Once everyone had somewhat calmed down, even though “calmed down” was putting it loosely, Kujou Sara pointed out, “Done what? I’m still confused as to what you are implying, General Gorou.”
Gorou scoffed at this. “Oh, so you’re confused as to how you murdered Her Excellency?”
Silence.
And then the calm before the storm shattered.
Kujou Sara was left stunned as her soldiers started shouting in her defense.
“Murder?!”
“Madam Kujou Sara would never murder the Divine Priestess.”
“We’re here for the peace talks, why would Madam Kujou Sara murder Sangonomiya Kokomi?”
The Watatsumi soldiers guarding the palace drew out their weapons and pointed them towards Kujou Sara and her soldiers in warning, while those stationed at the entrance were trying - and ultimately failing - to quell the angry uproar from the crowd that had gathered there.
“Her Excellency? What do you mean she’s dead?”
“No, that can’t be true Her Excellency can’t be dead… Can she?”
“I knew the war wasn’t really over! We should’ve never fallen for those so-called peace treaties.”
“And to think the Tenryou Commission would go that far… they really are nothing but cold blooded killers.”
“We won’t let you get away with this!”
“SILENCE!” Gorou shouted, which immediately quieted both sides. The Watatsumi General then returned his attention to Kujou Sara. “You do know what this means, right General Kujou Sara? Not only killing Her Excellency, but doing so during the peace talks… were they even peace talks in the first place or just a cover up? Either way, I’ll have you know that by killing Her Excellency… you’re asking for another war.”
Kujou Sara had to say something… but what could she say? All eyes seemed to be on her, as if waiting for her declaration that she was indeed the one who killed their Divine Priestess. But she knew at the bottom of her heart that she was innocent, and so she decided to go with the truth.
“I… I don’t know what happened, General Gorou,” Kujou Sara quietly admitted, before raising her voice, “But I do know that I am innocent. I would never kill Sangonomiya Kokomi, let alone any of your people, for that would hinder the Almighty Shogun’s wish for peace after the infamous Vision Hunt Decree.”
“But you were the last person who talked to Her Excellency, which was during the peace talks. Who else could’ve done it?”
“Again, I’m not sure… but I promise that the Tenryou Commission will  investigate this to bring the culprit to justice.”
A borderline maniacal laugh escaped Gorou before he shook his head. “The Tenryou Commission? Do you really think that I would let the very culprit conduct an investigation?”
“Well, well, well, looks like my intuition was correct,” someone claimed, as a man emerged from the crowd blocked at the entrance. The crowd easily moved out of the way for the mysterious man to move between the two generals, drawing both the generals’ attention unto him. And both Gorou and Kujou Sara immediately recognized the man.
“Heizou?!” Gorou yelped, his hostility temporarily replaced by utter surprise.
“SHIKANOIN?” Kujou Sara crossed her arms as she disapprovingly glared at the detective. Even if Heizou’s untimely arrival was the one thing stopping a potential war from breaking out, Kujou Sara did not want to draw more people into this mess. “What in Tevyat are you doing here? You’re supposed to be back on Narukami island.”
Heizou shrugged before sending a lazy smirk to Kujou Sara. “My intuition told me to follow you here to Watatsumi, and of course, my intuition was correct. There is indeed a mystery brewing within the still waters of Watatsumi. But who knew it happened to involve my own colleague too?” Heizou then sent a friendly wave to Gorou, as if this was a reunion between friends and not a discussion of murder. “And long time no see, General Gorou. And might I say, that was an outstanding deduction from you! It is better to reduce as much bias as possible in an investigation, so the suspect typically is not the investigator. And neither is the accuser.”
“...Thanks?” Gorou questioned more than thanked, still caught off guard with Heizou’s sudden appearance. Even the soldiers have all lowered their weapons with Heizou’s sudden appearance.
But it seemed that the detective was the only one unfazed, for Heizou hummed in return, resting his hands behind his head. “So I guess the only reasonable conclusion is to have me investigate this case, right General Gorou?” Heizou then laughed before grinning at Gorou. “But if you are looking for a change in career, I would be happy to have you as my partner in solving this crime.”
“I… think I’ll stick with being a general,” Gorou sheepishly admitted before sending another pointed glare towards Kujou Sara, hostility turning on like a flick of a light switch. “But since I’ve seen your detective work in action before, I would rather have you than her investigate this case.”
Heizou clapped his hands together, satisfied with Gorou’s answer. “Great, then I’m on the case!”

Has anyone considered what it would be like if Xingqiu had a villain arc?
[EDIT: If you do not like death, scary things, villain/corruption arcs etc. DO NOT READ THIS like I did not intend for this alternate universe to end up this way but it did so umm yeah sorry about that]
So I was thinking about Christina Vee's cover of Wolf In Sheep's Clothing and thought, "wait what if that was Xingqiu" (Christina Vee is Xingqiu's EN voice actor)
Like, maybe Traveler and co. went into the Abyss, something went wrong, Xingqiu was left behind, and everybody thought that he was dead.
Of course, everyone was devastated. But the Abyss is too powerful for them to be able to do anything to save him, so the only thing they could do is continue on with their journey and defeat the big bad, for Xingqiu, and for all of the other people that had been negatively impacted by said big bad (whether it's the Tsaritsa, Celestia, the Abyss, or something else, you decide). They beat the big bad and restore peace to Teyvat, and everybody begins rebuilding after the climax of the story.
Then time skip to years later, after the main story of Genshin, a mysterious new vigilante-like character appears in Liyue. Dangerous criminals are found dead in deserted alleys in the middle of the night, with reported sightings of a shadowy figure going to/exiting the crime scene (because come on, someone was murdered. Even if said someone is a dangerous criminal, it's still murder) moments before/after the supposed time of the crime. Not just dangerous criminals either; robbers, treasure hoarders, bandits, and other similar groups are attacked as well, by the same shadow.
At first, there were some mixed opinions about this new person; some people think that they are a hero trying to keep the people of Liyue safe, but others are suspicious and think that there's something fishy about all of this.
Then things start to escalate. The murders become more and more frequent, and people begin to get targeted for even the smallest of crimes. The Qixing had been secretly investigating this mysterious vigilante previously, but the new turn of events forced them to take more drastic measures: curfews are set, Millieth patrols increased, and a special task force, led by Lady Yelan herself, was assigned to track down and potentially deal with this new threat to Liyue.
But no matter what the Qixing tried, they couldn't stop the mystery person. They evaded and overpowered everything the Qixing threw at them, and are strong enough to defeat even Vision holders with ease. Witnesses and survivors report that the figure fights with no mercy; and yet they possess an unsettling, otherworldly element of grace and elegance.
Panic and fear are at an all-time high, nearly on par with the effect of the crazy series of events that occurred during the Traveler's time in Liyue. Whispers on the streets told of a vengeful swordsman coming back from the dead, having lost their humanity, returning only to subject the world to their own twisted sense of justice.
Coincidentally, this is when Chongyun decides to visit Liyue Harbor for a little bit and take a break from his training with either Shenhe or Xiao in the mountains (I've seen this in some age-up AUs and I really like it, so it's here now. Also, I feel like the supposed death of his best friend would have impacted him quite heavily, so he might have retreated into the mountains to make himself stronger so that he can better protect the people that he cares about. Maybe we could have some interesting parallels to the Xingqiu Abyss "death" scene as well, maybe Chongyun lost control of his Yang energy or something, and now he's doing everything in his power to make sure that he won't fail anyone else like how he failed Xingqiu. So much angst potential.) (Also it's up to y'all if you want to see this as platonic or romantic, personally I like the idea of platonic soulmates quite a lot, mostly because I'm not the biggest fan of romance haha. But if people want to read this as a romantic story that's fine too :D At the end of the day, we're just all people who enjoy Genshin Impact, and I think that's pretty cool :D). Anyways, Chongyun gets the entire situation explained to him by his friends, and Chongyun being Chongyun, he of course decides to help out (despite everybody telling him repeatedly just how dangerous this mystery person is). In the end, though, they couldn't convince Chongyun to stay put, so they join in to hopefully have a better chance of surviving their investigation. I think some of his friends (Hu Tao especially – she's actually a lot more emotionally mature than what she lets on, and I feel like she would've gotten some experience in how people deal with grief due to her job as a funeral parlor director) might have figured out that he's getting Xingqiu flashbacks from all this, not only because of Xingqiu's whole chivalry and justice thing, but also because of the remaining survivor's guilt and other angst that could have come from Xingqiu's supposed death.
The group gets in contact with the Qixing, and since they already know some members (like Ningguang, Keqing, Yelan, and Ganyu) from their adventures with the Traveler, plus the fact that they are all Vision users and therefore have a higher chance of surviving an encounter (I'm imagining Chongyun, Xiangling, Hu Tao, perhaps Xinyan and Yun Jin, or even Yanfei. Normally I would include Xingqiu as well, but...well...yeah.), the Qixing allows them to assist the special task force in charge of investigating the mystery person – but not without warning the group repeatedly about the dangerous nature of the assignment, to which Chongyun replies by saying that they know what they're getting themselves into, and that they want to help protect Liyue.
Que a bunch of investigation scenes where they try to track down the mystery person with the other Qixing officers. Strangely, after they narrowly escaped a run-in with the shadowy figure, the number of new murder cases dropped significantly. Instead, their opponent started leaving messages at the scene of the crime, containing threats, taunts, and riddles, all elegantly worded in a way that is... very familiar.
(The messages were also almost illegible to the average person. The Millieth had thought the messages were some sort of special cipher at first, but the friend group, having experienced Xingqiu's dreadful handwriting on multiple occasions, managed to decode it.)
What's more, the messages seem to be targeting Chongyun and his friends in particular.
It is never a good sign when such a powerful foe takes notice of you.
Despite the many dangers, they press on, and eventually, the messages led them to an old, run-down warehouse.
It had once belonged to the Feiyun Commerce Guild, but was abandoned after repeated reports of spirit sightings and strange happenings around that one specific warehouse, a few months before the mystery person arrived in Liyue Harbor.
It didn't help that the warehouse was originally used to store special strands of silk flowers, as well as the various other silks produced by the Guild. After Xingqiu's death, another member of the Guild had been assigned to oversee the silk trade... but it had never been the same since.
All this time, the squad had been slowly connecting the dots between the many clues left behind by the mystery person. A swordsperson, with enough skill and power to best Vision holders, enacting their own view of justice upon wrongdoers? The gracefully composed messages, written in barely decipherable script, and now the warehouse?
This can't be purely coincidental; their opponent had carefully laid out a web of connections that only a few select people can understand.
There is only one person that could be behind all of this.
...But even if he is alive after all these years, why would he do this?
Cut to the group arriving in the warehouse. They knew very well that they are very likely walking directly into a trap, but this investigation has become about more than just protecting Liyue from a new threat; there are now personal stakes involved.
Of course, they were ambushed. Pieces of the roof fell in at random intervals, support beams collapsed of their own accord, and the air was filled with dust and smoke. All that stuff.
Chongyun was separated from the rest of the group and was trying to find his way back to them when a familiar voice rang out from behind him.
This is where the Wolf In Sheep's Clothing cover comes in; I just imagine Xingqiu singing that angrily while Chongyun just freaks out over what the heck happened to his best friend, because not only is he alive and very much not dead, also went on a deadly rampage throughout Liyue just murdering people???
So the story from Xingqiu's side goes like this:
Back when he followed the Traveler and co. into the Abyss and they thought he was dead, NOPE he's actually still alive, trying his best to survive and hoping that someone would come looking for him. But they never came.
The Abyss has a way of changing people, twisting their minds and turning them into something much more dangerous. And to Xingqiu, it appeared as if his friends had abandoned him, left him to fend for himself in the dark, unyielding Abyss. It corrupted his sense of justice, and despite his best efforts to stay true to his past ideals of chivalry and valor, not even the strongest of mortals can resist the power of the Abyss.
When he finally emerged from the depths, he returned to a world that had moved on without him, forgotten him even. Wiped him away like an insignificant speck of dust.
He slipped back into Liyue Harbor in the dead of night, and scared away the workers in the warehouse. At this point, I'm not sure if he's even human anymore. Childe was in the Abyss for 3 Abyss months and look at him. He's Childe. Need I say more? And in this alternate universe Xingqiu was in there for like at least a year? Or more?
Anyways, Wolf In Sheep's Clothing is just Xingqiu being angry and stuff at Chongyun (who was actually there when Xingqiu was separated from the others in the Abyss, so Xingqiu's like extra angry at him and probably the Traveler too). As of now I can see two ways this could end: one is that Evil Xingqiu gets "Magic of Friendship"ed and gets a redemption arc, and the other ending is while Evil Xingqiu and Chongyun fight, Chongyun is eventually forced to come to the realization that the person that he is fighting is no longer Xingqiu, and that his best friend isn't coming back. So in this ending he defeats Evil Xingqiu (maybe using his Pure Yang thing or a cool exorcism trick he learned from Xiao/Shenhe), and maybe he exorcises the Abyss energy out of the ghost or something, and the spirit passes on in peace (perhaps helped along by Hu Tao).
I just realized that a lot of this is like REALLY out of character (even for Abyss-ed people), and honestly, this turned out to be WAY darker than I originally imagined. Like, the original plan is just "Xingqiu gets Abyssed and now he is angry and decides to become evil batman and Chongyun is confused" and we ended up with this. How has this post gone so far off the track. Like, what.
IDK I still spent like 2 hours writing this tho so I'm still gonna share it
If there's any trigger warnings or content warnings that I missed in the tags please tell me this is my first time writing/posting anything that comes even close to warranting a tw or a cw so help would be very much appreciated. Like especially if you compare this to my last Genshin post which is literally just "what if Alhaitham insults Kaveh in flower language and Kaveh has no idea and just puts the flowers in a vase".
I sincerely apologize for the word wall that I have unintentionally summoned.
[EDIT: Also while I was tagging this I just realized that I left out an important point from the main post so here it is:
If anybody is like SERIOUSLY uncomfortable with this post, I WILL take it down (please tell me if that happens). It doesn't matter if I spent two hours writing this, I would rather not make anybody uncomfortable. Honestly I'm also quite scared of what would happen if I post this (if you read the tags you'll see me panicking over this lol), because while I know the fandom likes angst or something, I don't know if there's any underlying themes in this story idea that will seriously unnerve some people. This is not proofread or betaread, so I don't have a second opinion on this post. So yeah please tell me if there's something I need to say. But please don't be toxic in the comments or anything because words can hurt a lot (even when it's not directed at you) and if you hate this post just like block me or something instead of making a long rant in the comments. Thanks :)]
I have no idea if I've gone overboard with that edit up there (most of it is probably just me overthinking lol) but idk this is my first time posting something like this so I just want to make sure we can still maintain a safe space in this little corner of the internet ig. And I think it's also because the Genshin fandom is very big and I have no idea who would see this, so... yeah.
That said, have a nice day/night and I hope that this post does not offend anybody or make anybody seriously uncomfortable in any way because holy heck am I scared to post this–
Like, this started as a "Oooo what if villain arc??" to whatever THIS is.

How to defeat Diona's serious challenge in Genshin TCG (I failed 10+ times before finally winning)
How Diona will obliterate you
How to defeat Diona
Suggested deck
Diona's deck
Diona's deck consists of herself (w the special card that gives her skill +1 shield), Ningguang and Benny, in that order.
Her strategy is to simply be impossible to kill. She has 3 ways to create shields (Diona, Ningguang's Jade Screen & Crystallize reactions) and 2 ways to create +2HP heals (Diona and Benny's ults).
On top of that, she can quite easily kill you with Melt reactions and Ningguang's ult.
Given how easily she procs heals AND shields, you're going to need multiple turns to kill any single character, letting her easily accumulate energy to proc her healing/offensive ults.
--
How to defeat Diona
If you give Diona time to set up, she'll continue to be a menace while off-field. Her shields makes it ridiculously difficult to kill the on-field character, while her heals does this AND enables Benny's Melt and Ningguang's crystallize.
Diona's pretty annoying to deal with, so you might be tempted to shut down her offensive power by killing Benny & Ningguang. Unfortunately, that still doesn't give you breathing space because of Diona's ability to shield AND heal. She can easily win a 1v3 when well-built. Here's a demonstration by someone who lost to a Diona this way.
She just won't die. Her shields will negate most of the dmg you do. So by the time you get her HP within killing range, she'd have accumulated enough energy to proc her ult and heal herself back to almost full health.
You just don't want to let Diona take the field at all. You need to keep her off-field and defeat her while she's off-field.
--
Suggested Deck
The best way to keep a character off-field AND damage them at the same time is through swirl reactions, specifically Sucose and Jean's skills.
The goal with this deck is to keep forcibly swapping the opponent between Ningguang and Benny.
Ningguang and Benny should have a swirlable element on them so that you can deal dmg to Diona while she's off-field. Make sure not to kill Benny and Ningguang before Diona dies, so that you won' be stuck with Diona's never-ending shields and heals.
Tumblr media
Characters
Jean: Skill switches opponent to the character on the right. Healing ult can sometimes come in clutch.
A character of swirl-able element: I use Benny because he hits relatively hard and his ult can also heal, if game becomes a long one. Do not let this character die until Diona herself does.
Sucrose: Skill switches opponent to the character on the left. Because her normal attack is weaker than Jean's (-1 instead of -2) and because she doesn't have an ult, Sucrose is the character I suggest you sacrifice if you are forced to do so, especially after Diona dies. Her normal atk is great for swirling though; that might be a consideration.
Must-Have Action Cards
Quick Switch cards (Katheryne, Noelle, Shenhe): Helps ensure you can proc swirl reactions before the character with the element switches away. And that you can juggle between Jean and Sucrose to switch between Ningguang and Benny as desired.
NRE and healing food: Diona hits unreasonably hard for a support character. And Ningguang's ult hurts.
Jade Chamber/Favonius Library: to get your die in the right element. Pretty standard.
Good-to-have cards:
Send off: For if Diona does proc her ult. Benny's melt will hurt a lot and the healing is annoying.
Free Anemo dice: for the desperate swapping or card-playing situation
Card-spawning cards (Liyue Harbour, Kokomi): to ensure you get to play the must-have cards early in the game.
--
A very detailed gameplay example is available here, by Vystaria on youtube. They explain their considerations for each move in detail, which was how I learned this strat. I did make some changes though.
