Thank you to the awesome @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras for the tag!
I had to think about it, because frankly, I was overwhelmed with options 😅 I can get excited about pretty much anything, but I am pretty happy with the choices I've put -- and I resisted the urge to put some of my uni books, but hey if anyone is looking for some insight into sociology, i've got some recs!

BECOMING A WARD
There's a lot of mystery surrounding how or why Natalia came into Richard's care. He left for one of his usual trips, gone for a few days or so, and simply came back with her. It's not the first time it's happened, and it's certainly not the first time he was tight-lipped about why someone was taken in. All Richard really shared with the others is that Natalia is an orphan. For the first few years Natalia was at Woodrow, a detective and former student of Richard's made occasional visits. There was an air of familiarity between Natalia and this visitor, suggesting a shared history. When questioned by the others about the detective's identity, Natalia would simply refer to her as a friend of her mother's.
LIFE AS A WARD
Natalia was non-verbal for the first few weeks upon arriving at Woodrow House. However, when she finally spoke, it was clear she wasn't the talkative type. She was largely unproblematic growing up — well-behaved, enjoyed quiet hobbies, and did well in school. It was once she became a teenager that she started showing more personality. While she was generally much of the same at her core, she more readily revealed her wit and distaste. (Read: embraced being kind of a bitch<3.) Natalia did well to position herself firmly as one of the competent and capable wards growing up when she noticed there was a distinction between them. She always knew where to be and what to do. You never had to worry about her. Her unwavering competence was both commendable and exasperating, especially to those who could never quite measure up — ahem, The Mischievous.
DYNAMIC WITH THE OTHER WARDS
For someone who likes to set themselves apart, she's not normally alone unless she wants to be. Was very close to The Scholar growing up and was always seen with them until they fell out. If she likes you, she'll find a reason to be in your space. Considering Natalia's inclination towards being perceived a certain way, she definitely tried to align herself more with wards that were less openly problematic. She doesn't like people who are messy and attention-seeking, like The Melodramatic. She's also not a fan of people who are insecure or unsuccessful by her standards. For this reason, she's The Misunderstood's #1 bully. <3 I imagine she was also drawn to the wards that were older and more responsible like The Guardian and The Protector. However, considering Natalia's age, she was probably grouped in with the younger wards most of the time for schooling and outings, which she lowkey hated. She always made the best of a bad situation however and used it as an opportunity to underscore just how capable she was, subsequently becoming something of a guide or example for the younger wards.
GENERAL VIBE
She's not unfriendly, she's just... particular. She has very little patience for things that are messy, whether it's behavior, your appearance or your space. Will be the first to call something 'tragic' in judgey ass tone. Bit of an elitist honestly. The better you carry yourself, the more willing she is to associate with you and be nice. Is also generally very terrible with vulnerability. She's not good at dealing with it, nor is she particularly known for displaying it.
WHAT WAS THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH RICHARD LIKE?
Despite her reserved nature, Natalia shares a special warmth and closeness with Richard that she doesn’t easily extend to others. There's a softness to her when she's around him. His guidance and steadfast support played a significant role in shaping the goodness in her character growing up. She sees him as a mentor and despite herself, a father figure — though she'll never say it out loud.
AESTHETIC
Natalia takes great pride in the way she presents herself. She dresses very prim and proper. Lots of matching sets and dresses. Short heels. She loves light colored clothing and pastels. She's very rarely seen in casual clothing, and even then her most plain shirts are collared. She doesn't have a signature accessory per se but she's often seen wearing a pearl pendant necklace. When she was a child, she used to wear a cross necklace that Mrs. Tristan gave to her. She transitioned it out of her attire when she started to learn more about religion, but she still has the necklace. She normally wears her hair half up, half down, with a neat bow tying her hair together. Having naturally wavy hair, straighteners are her very best friend. She goes through a whole process of straightening her hair only to then curl it in delicate waves that she prefers. Always smells good. A Diptyque bitch through and through. She wears L'Ombre dans l'Eau.
EDUCATION
Natalia chose to attend a private school when it came time to pursue secondary education. However, she only attended it for two years before opting to receive schooling on Woodrow’s grounds again. She'll claim it was boring but in truth, she was just kind of homesick. She did go on to attend Richard's alma mater, Kingsbury College, and double majored in Art History and French.
EXTRACURRICULARS
Natalia took gymnastics, piano, French lessons and horseback riding growing up. She's always liked horses, and to learn how to ride and work with them was a dream come true. #horsegirl Not that it was an official extracurricular she took up, but she spent a lot of time observing and learning how to prepare food in the kitchen growing up. While she initially spent time in the kitchen to practice her French with Chef Pierre, she eventually starting helping with mise en place because it was fun and relaxing to her. Her knife skills go crazyyy.
THEIR LIFE NOW
After graduating, Natalia didn't have much in mind for a career, so she decided to help Richard with the Woodrow Foundation. She functioned as an administrative assistant for him for several years. While she didn't gravitate towards the volunteering and charity work, she thrived in the administrative side of the foundation. She would have honestly been content to do that for many years, enjoying the work and that she got to repay Richard in some way for changing her life. But of course, Natalia had other interests, and Richard was always one to encourage a person to explore their passions. He connected her with a rising fashion designer in Paris named Geneviève Brodeur, and she then left to intern for her. The internship was only meant to last half a year, with her learning the ins and outs of fashion design, but the designer liked Natalia so much that she was kept on as a personal assistant. She's been living in Paris since and hasn't had time to return to Woodrow.

in light of that asshole being arrested, and the fact that he praised the École Polytechnique shooter, I want to talk about that shooting because so many of us weren't born or were too young to remember
on 6 December 1989, a man walked into a Montréal university, École Polytechnique, and massacred 14 women
he separated the men from the women, yelled << Vous êtes toutes des feministes! >> or "You're all feminists!" and opened fire on the women
the names of the women who were killed were Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, and Annie Turcotte
the shooter claimed to have been fighting feminism, and thought women should not be allowed to study engineering.
my mother was an engineering student nearby, so I can tell you for a fact that this had an impact on women's studies outside of the school. several of my mom's classmates dropped out after the shooting.
the recent news of a man supporting what is sometimes known as the Montréal Massacre is horrifying. but it isn't unexpected. this is where anti-feminist and misogynistic ideology leads, and the modern version of those ideologies retain the same violent hatred that the École Polytechnique shooter had.
I will not name the shooter, he deserves no such naming. he died, but his ideology lives on and can still be deadly.

Wildfire and Blood related. (warning this will be long🙈) have you watched Anne of the Thousand Days? It's a 1969 movie about Anne Boleyn starring Geneviève Bujold & Richard Burton...
Anyways, so this epic scene from the movie after Anne's imprisonment, Henry goes to see and her and urges her to confess to the crimes when she's at trial and agree to annul the marriage.
//It is true. I was unfaithful to you with all of them. With half your court. With soldiers of your guard, with grooms, with stablehands. Look for the rest of your life at every man that ever knew me and wonder if I didn't find him a better man than you!
King Henry VIII: You whore!
Anne: But Elizabeth was yours. Watch her as she grows; she's yours. She's a Tudor! Get yourself a son off of that sweet, pale girl if you can - and hope that it will live! But Elizabeth shall reign *after* you. Yes! Elizabeth - child of Anne the Whore and Henry the Blood-Stained Lecher - shall be Queen!
King Henry VIII: You've asked for death and you shall have it.
Anne: So be it. Only what I take to my grave, you take to yours. And think of this, Henry: Elizabeth shall be a greater Queen than any King of yours. She shall rule a greater England than you could ever have built! Yes - *my* Elizabeth shall be Queen. And my blood will have been well spent!//
(sidenote she was innocent but just said all this to rile him up and get under his skin)
So what if Alicent had a similar argument with Daemon after Celias marriage to either Aegon/Cregan or after she's ran away to get married, caused a scandal to ensure she marries which ever one etc . Basically at a point when he finds out not only about what she's done and can't do anything to stop it and he finds out what Alicent knew. So he takes her to their rooms and they get into a similar argument where they hurl hurts at one another.
She brings up him wanting to use Celia to further Rhaenyra's cause/for his own benefit, his obsession with Rhaenyra, ill treatment of her
He brings up her emotional affair with Criston
Because of how vexed she is, she admits to being fond of Criston, saying that she wishes she were married to him because he has a great father to her children and has been a good friend at court, the only friend who has no political motivations.
He threatens her life and she states says something similar to Anne about the position her daughter will be in, whether it's Aegon's queen or Lady Stark and her blood will have been well spent. Maybe even accuse him and say after killing her, him and Rhaenyra will kill Borros and so they can finally marry.
Idk this scene is just really cool.

Today is an important day for me as a woman in engineering.
On this day 33 years ago a man, who believed, that us women were getting too powerful and that "feminists destroyed his life" went into a mechanical engineering class at L'École Polytechnique in Montreal and k!lled 14 women, 14 more were severely injured.
He decided to k!ll them because they were simply women. Many of them were as old as I am now. They had their whole life in front of them and is was taken away from them. Today I want to remember their names:
Geneviève Bergeron
Hélène Colgan
Nathalie Croteau
Barbara Daigneault
Anne-Marie Edward
Maud Haviernick
Barbara-Maria Klucznick-Widajewicz
Maryse Laganière
Maryse Leclair

TASK 001 - THE NEWS
LOCATION: Natalia's Apartment in Paris, France DATE: Friday, September 2, 2005 TASK: How does your character react to learning of Richard’s passing?
Natalia had come home on her lunch break for a bit of a reprieve from work. Geneviève was deep into her preparation for Fashion Week. It put the entire studio on edge, making everyone from the stylists to the designers antsy and ill-tempered. If she had to suffer through another rant about a change Geneviève made that the others didn’t agree with, she might just bury a pair of 10-inch shears into one of her coworkers. So, for her sake — and she supposed everyone else's — she was spending some time away from them.
She was in her small kitchen, finding solace in a chilled bottle of rosé when she heard a knock on her door. Her first thought was that it better not be anyone from work with more piffling complaints about Geneviève’s choices. When she pulled open the door to find a courier on the other side, her brows pulled together. She wasn't expecting anything. After a quick signature, she received an envelope. She figured it must have been an invitation of some kind since people texted these days.
Reading that the piece of mail had come from Woodrow, Natalia quickly went through the important dates she knew were coming up. Richard’s birthday had passed, so perhaps it was something for Mrs. Tristan? She didn’t get further than one or two steps from the door before she opened the envelope to find out.
It was a letter, not an invitation. In pristine handwriting that she recognized as Mrs. Tristan's, it detailed the news of Richard's death, an invitation to his subsequent funeral, and that she and the rest of the wards were left Woodrow House and its estate in equal parts. I urge you to come together in this time of need, it said. Richard’s funeral will be held on Sunday.
Tumblr media
She blinked, her gaze wandering off momentarily to try and process what she'd just read before her eyes found the letter once more. She went over it again and again to make sure there was no mistake in how she understood it. Each swirl of ink. Letter by letter. Word by word. But every time she made it to the end, the reality remained stubbornly unchanged: Richard was... dead? The thought felt like a cruel joke, a surreal twist in an otherwise ordinary day.
She couldn't say how long she'd been staring at the letter before she finally noticed the trembling in her fingers. Then very quickly, she became aware of everything else: An unsteadiness in her chest. A tightness in her throat. Before she could give the reaction any more room to grow, she knew she had to move. There was a flight to book. A suitcase to pack. A very fussy designer to disappoint.
--
[This entire conversation is had in French. But because no one wants to go through the trouble of Google Translating dialogue line by line, it's being written in English.<3]
"I'm flying back to New York tomorrow." Said and out of the way. Geneviève always appreciated how direct Natalia could be. She didn't see any point in changing how she communicated just because of the subject matter.
"Yes, and I'm leaving for Santorini tonight." There's a laugh. Natalia squared her jaw. Her boss thought she was joking.
"I'll be gone for a week. Two at most," she added.
That was enough to get Geneviève to look up from the design she was working on. There was a look in her eyes she's never seen before. A cross between fascination (likely over what Natalia was saying right now) and disbelief (that she would say it at all).
"You seem to misremember what our roles are, Natalia. I'm the one that gets to leave out of the blue while you stay behind and take care of things."
Natalia swallowed slowly. While she'd normally take more time to consider what she was saying, the words that left her were... unrefined. Showed a lack of tact. For the person she was speaking to. For her future. Her mind felt so clouded by the weight of what she'd read an hour ago that she was having trouble feeling much of herself at all.
"Richard passed away. I'm needed at—" Home. "—Woodrow. There are things that need to be taken of."
There was a shift in Geneviève's demeanor — momentarily — but a shift she caught all the same.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
The condolences felt odd to hear. Natalia only just considered that she might be hearing more of it once she returned.
"But you can't leave," Geneviève continued on. "Not right now. We're deep in our preparation for Fashion Week. You're needed here. You know I can't stand the level of buffoonery some of these people are capable of. We can send flowers. An extravagant arrangement. I'll even pay for it."
"My flight is booked. I've packed. I'm only here now because it felt important to tell you in person."
Geneviève's lips sat in an unpleasant twist. Clearly astounded by the amount of gall Natalia had. Her audacity was something her boss liked about her, but clearly not in this moment.
"Don't push me, Natalia."
"I'm going whether it's okay or not."
They shared a heavy, heavy stare. An entire conversation had without any words. Natalia recognized a fiendish anger in Geneviève's eyes. Some disappointment over the realization that perhaps they weren't as similar as she thought. Possible regret over how she had let the lines blur between them. The comfort they shared with each other, built through catty talks over others and a few careless evenings in each other's beds, building to a point of casual betrayal.
"If you leave... you don't come back."
Natalia wasn't a fool. Of course it was something she considered going into this conversation. But the news of Richard's passing drowned out all other thoughts — especially ones with reason. She'd never felt such a desperation to be anywhere before. Like she couldn't breathe properly until she got there. She'd throw her whole life away, without much thought, if it meant seeing the dark mahogany walls of Woodrow again.
"Then I won't come back. I wish you the best for Fashion Week."
Tumblr media
She'll be bringing a lot more luggage than she thought to the airport tomorrow.
