LIRR ran four of these little hirail VW Transporters back in the 1960's -- basically for less cost and hassle than a Fairmount Speeder and just as good on gas...
Came equipped with a homemade pintle jack turntable for fast U-turns! Seemingly the track maintenance crews, who called themselves the Cockney slang "Gandy Dancers" lovingly called this versatile little Volkswagen Transporter a "Gandyvvagen"
[image id: a drawing of the three PCs in TAZ Dust styled like an old movie poster. the ghost of augustus parsons floats next to gandy dancer, who’s looking over her shoulder to the right. errol ryehouse stands to the right of gandy, looking over his shoulder to the left. behind them all is a big clock set at 1 AM and the moon covered by clouds. the word “DUST” is written in yellow below the clock and the names AUGUSTUS PARSONS, GANDY DANCER, and ERROL RYEHOUSE are written underneath the three PCs. the entire thing looks like it’s been printed on old paper. end id]
I am the biggest Gandy dancer fan. If Gandy has 100 fans I am one of them. If Gandy has 10 fans I am one of them. If Gandy has 1 fan I am that person. If Gandy has no fans, I do not exist
"Before modern technology, Gandy Dancers could be heard singing from wherever there was a railroad. Rail maintenance crews were once led by track callers, or lead singers, whose purpose was to uplift their men, physically and emotionally, while overseeing the coordination of the work at hand. The crews became known as the Gandy Dancers because when they all began pulling the lining bars together while singing, they also looked to be dancing in sync." ~ MER 100th Anniversary
On the railroad, if Christians do not move together, sing together, pray together, study together, fellowship together, etc., as a result, the straight path of the Lord will be unknown to the perishing, and/or our own journey will shift out of alignment, to the left or right.

In the old days, railroad lines were laid, kept straight and maintained by hand. In the United States, the men (and in those days, it was probably all men) who did this hard work were predominantly Black. They were known as Gandy Dancers. The origin of that name is unknown, but it probably stems from the rhythmic movement they all engaged in as a group to keep the track aligned, almost a form of dance.
If that act ii is all country/roots music, I will be so excited and curious to see how Beyonce will navigate this roll out. I'm ready for it. Sitting here with Solange energy like bring it on home!
16 Carriages is giving us serious gandy dancer/prison work songs/chain gangs rythmns. There's a bullwhip sound layered in there. I'm hearing so much.
what I actually want more than anything is one of those incredibly well animated violent Signalis videos but for Pickman mowing down gandy dancers and being distant with women
