SHELBY (2001) Evolving throughout Paleozoic Era, mainly Permian Period. ~275 MYA. Related to clams and horseshoe crabs. Lives on coasts.

FURBY (1998-9) First appeard in late Triassic period. ~220 MYA. Similar to early mammals like Morganucodon, with Lystosaurus-like beak and reptillian parietal eye (infared sensor). Lives on sandy beaches.

FURBY (2012) Like some birds, evolved to have brighter colors in response to tropical environment and abundance of species. Ears are made of cartilage, and larger eyes as a result of having no natural predators. (It's literally called Furby Island).

BOOM (2013) Different coat patterns evolve through selective mating. Holes in ears for wider range of hearing.

PARTY ROCKERS (2013) Experimental subspecies with differing beak, ear, and eye proportions. Honestly probably boardering on extinction.

EMOTOTRONIC (2005) Emerged during early Cretaceous period. ~105 MYA. Similar to Repenomamus in size in order to compete with dinosaurs. Thick, leathery skin replaces beak, and forms toenails for rougher terrain. Lives in lush tropical forests.

FUNKY (2006) A selection of Emoto-tronics that developed brighter colors, and tails developed from selective mating.

CONNECT (2016) Antenna forms for advanced communication. Beak size shrinks to compensate for larger eyes, ears, and increased brain size. Almost like aliens.

FURBY (2023) Glowing ears fromed from gradual absorpsion of antenna. More advanced communication and higher level of conciousness. Beak continues to shrink and eyes continue to enlargen.

FURBLETS (2023) Smaller subspecies, exchanged bioluminescence for higher range of motion. Can fold ears over body for protection.

I think a more interesting take on furby biology is that the 2023 furby isn’t from harmful breeding practices but is simply a different furby in the family of furbies, if we think it like that we could start making some interesting headcanons for why they may look like this.

What is the difference type of prey they are eating that is resulting in smaller beaks? Where do they live? I’ve seen the point that the 2012’s could live in caves and it would give the 2023’s an interesting reason for there ears to light up if there same way

I was browsing the American Girl doll website the other day looking at something to get my niece for her birthday and I saw one of the girl of the years for the 80’s and 90’s and I got a flashback to that one ask about the reality tv show that NB and Rockstar!eddie could have had, and eddie’s reaction to the 70’s historical one, could you imagine them going with their grandchildren or something and Eddie having a cow about the 80’s and 90’s and Nepobaby is just like, “let’s maybe just go to build-a-bear so grandpa doesn’t pop a blood vessel today”

omfg not the 80s and 90s ones. american girl doll is so lethal. wasn't there one about the challenger explosion?

i think rockstar!eddie and children's toys throughout the years would just make his head spin. definitely has a geezer "back in my day" moment. but also the evolution of toys? he really got to experience it first hand because the girls are so spread out.

a tamagotchi was the beginning because "it's not real, sephy, it can't die it's not alive. it's a game. a game."

furby scared the shit out of him and reminded him of the gremlins movie. "kensie cried for a week straight because she killed a lady bug but has this in her room?"

really didn't like polly pocket much either because they were always just thrown in the floor, and stepping on them??? those sharp ass arms and hands??? but it was less messy than an easy bake.

was a huge fan of a lite brite and zahra used to play with it all the time. he loved them but there was always a piece missing so he kept having to go get more.

sephy was a barbie fan, kensie liked polly pockets, the twins liked the barbies that were like fairytopia/ special kind of ones, zahra was not a big doll fan until american girl dolls (because they had cool stories and backgrounds and stuff), and vega was ofc a monster high doll fan.

by the time vega was born, toys were so digitalized but he did make the mistake of getting her zhu zhu pets (the robotic hamsters?) and she did in fact get it stuck in kensie's hair because sicily and sienna told her to.

(I opted not to colour these, since the humid air is making my screen a little uncomfortable to draw against.)

I think I'm getting the hang of drawing Rook. Someone described him as “Furby” like and I find tue comparison delightful. Rook's armor helps to distort his silhouette into something more human-like, and as an adult he has taken to wearing specialized shoes to help offset the strain imposed by living and working in a human society, as his own is far less constant in its activities.

Tangentially, his has much less fat, since they don’t need immediate energy localized to the muscles. Their muscles are thinner as well, being made of different, more efficient materials than those of earth lifeforms. They are considerably tall and gangly, their evolution dependent on their singular food source (those amber fruits).

Humans, comparatively, are squishy, climby, clingy creatures built around pursuit predation and spontaneity. We have had many predators and are the predators of many more. Revonnahganders' only have competition with one other species and it is over their mutually sought food source.

Revonnahgander necks are about as long as their torsos and their arms reach as for as their knees. Humans have looong torsos housing many organs, several of which exist to control for and filter out toxins/bacteria. Revonnah has very few microbials, so there was much less of a need for such parts.

Humans are high energy, highly sociable, and incredibly verbal. Ben is an AuDHDer, so there's a hand in the scale, but there is still considerable difference between how Rook and Ben express and perceive.

Pokémon and Digimon are examples of convergent evolution: while Digimon firmly originate from the digital pet craze (being related closely to Tamagotchis and more distantly to other virtual pets like Neopets and Furbies), Pokémon are a hybrid with ancestry both in bug collection and RPG monsters like mimics. I'd argue their closest living relatives are bug and fish collectibles in unrelated games like Animal Crossing or the Sims. Yet, they've evolved to converge on a similar niche and similar fuzzy to reptilian/cute to kaiju-like forms.

Today I've got some Thoughts™️ on furbies compared with actual animals, so you're gonna hear them

Basically, I think that they'd be something like rats if they were a real species of animal:

- Small

- Social

- Surprisingly intelligent

- Excellent pets

- However, have high population concentration near humans and a taste for our food, so while they're beloved by many they're also considered "gross", "creepy", or just pests by many others.

I think they'd be a little like flightless parrots too, for the human speech mimicry, the beak, and the fact they lay eggs (as seen in the Boom and Connect apps), the mimicry also unfortunately coming at the cost of some people finding them loud or annoying.

They communicate with each other in Furbish, obviously, with a few different dialects depending on their breed and region (which some species of real animals have been observed to have), as well as certain chirps and purrs.

Also, social singing and dance! Pretty sure every generation of furby I've seen so far dances except the babies, and at least most of them sing.

Not sure what exactly Shelbies would be in relation to them tbh. Convergent evolution? Weird offshoot species that adapted to ocean/shore dwelling?

Haven't come up with much beyond that but thought it was an interesting idea 🤷‍♀️

Okay! I'm rapidly reaching the point of needing some creative self-care, or I'm going to crash even more viciously than I'm already starting to. Bad things: work is about to be SO fucking intense for the rest of the month, and while my home is unpacked, it is Comically unorganized. Good things: being unable to walk to work leaves me with more free time and less exhaustion per day, and I've recently refreshed myself on what supplies i have. I also am all set to start figuring out how to paint a house as soon as I can test my samples and clear a room. This will scratch the novelty itch, so i can be responsible and avoid buying new things. But i also can't lose focus on the organizing or I'll Adjust and never finish 😂

Let me see

Crochet in general: crochet is what I've been patching the mounting anxiety with, and i DO want to use up yarn, but it's hard on my wrist already, I can't afford to get too deep.

Baby blanket: almost done, could probably finish tomorrow in meetings, but because it was pretty bland, it won't be that fulfilling

Big Boi blanket: god, it's been years, I want to finish, but i WILL need to buy some yarn

Rocky horror lips: tedious single crochet, fun concept, but need to avoid wrist fuckery

Cross-stitch starscream: yes! I want to do this!! But this will be the opposite of quick gratification

Art........?: ALSO YES, goddammit, i want to figure out the stupid tablet! But good LORD, it's hard to decide what to do. And I'm in one of those phases where I'm not FAST, and I'm not vibing with what i make. The solution is just to draw more often, i know. But fuck.

Hc/mq: had a conceptual breakthrough, maybe? But i still don't know how it will proceed, so idk whether to commit the energy

Bwx/xl: this is half done already, AND outlined, I don't know why I can't do it. If i make myself, maybe i can find my groove

Lqg fic: it'll be long and intimidating 😭

Bingge lite: it's been 84 years...... But i really really really really love it and want to be able to share it. But the scope will be Horrendous, it may need percolation and warmer weather

Raksura core: i, uh, um 🫥 (i want to finish it! I really do! I can't focus worth SHIT)

Quilting: that would be good! Use up stuff! I want to be better! But god, the PREP WORK

Addendum: can i think of a fandom quilt i could pull off? Even if it was. Idk. Bingqiu colors. That might help me focus. But i also need to use up my stash :T

Long furby: would be good. I've had the materials for-fucking-ever

Pyrography: ooh, maybe. Especially if I can find art i dont have to compose. But if i set off the smoke alarm while it's this gross outside ill Die

BOOKS: heavy lifts and decision paralysis all around. Could be star wars (long, not for me, have to match existing volume), cnovel (several wips, but each is so much work to format, good god), ofic (not for me, also have to revamp formatting), ilcbt latest edition (needs the luxury treatment, which requires brain), pof latest edition (needs the luxury treatment, which requires brain), and all of the most appealing projects need a lot of materials, and I'm still in debt, lmao

Peerless fic: I've had the concept locked down for years, but i need to refresh on more of their late-stage characterization before feeling confident

Fourteenth year of chenghua fic: i also have the concept locked down! But i want to see the final evolution of wang zhi's relationship to the other two first

2ha fic: I ALSO HAVE THE CONCEPT LOCKED DOWN. but i still haven't...... finisheddddddddd, and this is going to need to be a fairly lengthy fic to wrangle xue meng in a believable way

#UGHHHHHH and I've wasted another day doing nothingggggg #that's not true i crocheted during meetings #and had meetings until 7:30 #but it's not the SAME #i think a crochet pattern needs to be a CHALLENGE to really vibe with this emotional need #long post/
