When embalming, a mortician should wear a gown, gloves, a mask, and a face shield. Mortuary science students really dislike wearing the face shield. This is because they think that just because a body is not alive it can't move.

This is false.

Any object at rest tends to stay at rest. Unless acted upon.

A dead body can move.

This should be obvious, the embalmer themselves is manipulating the limbs, setting the features, cleaning under the nails, washing the skin and hair.

The embalming process comes down to pressure, you know, in the end. Formaldehyde is pumped through the veins, diluted with water, until the red fades to pink and then to nothing.

This takes a while because you need to make sure you're not causing swelling and massaging the limbs for proper distribution and diffusion. The lab is cold when you start but by the end you're sweaty and fogging up your shield and ready to do anything else while contemplating your choice of profession.

Anyway.

I went to school a guy who talked big about his family's funeral business he'd inherit. This guy hated wearing his shield, he claimed he knew what he was doing. I had to be his lab partner one day because I was making up one I'd missed.

He went to open an artery and got a spray of blood directly across his eye.

Came in the next Monday and his eye was swollen shut.

Wear your fucking safety equipment.

omg i didnt even tell you guys about a very serendipitous thing that happened last saturday. so bf and i took the bus to the next town over to hang out with one of his friends, and we decided to head back around 4:45 i think? and for some reason the bus thats supposed to take us back to the city stops running at 3:30 on saturdays....makes no sense but okay. and his friend doesnt have a car so theres licherally nothing we can do aside from walk like 3 miles to a bus stop that will at least take us vaguely near bf's house. so him and i start walking, thankfully it was only like 75 degrees out. and him and i are talking abt whatever and we're walking by a parking lot and some guy yells "hey do you need a ride" at us, and my boyfriend turns and says something along the lines of "YOOO ITS BILL(my mom's boyfriend)" and so we got a ride home from bill. turns out he was doing instacart and thats a pretty good area for it, but he was already planning on going home when he picked us up. so it was just a very nice coincidence that he was driving home while we were trying to find any bus that could take us to the city lol. shout out to my guy bill

#hes such a real one. he directed that horror movie i did makeup for in 2021 #and he dresses exclusively in tie-dye. the few times ive seen him not in tie-dye were for formal events #one of which being a funeral last year where he dressed like a 90s hacker. his vibes are insane #i get why my mom likes him lol

I find it a little annoying when it’s obvious that creators can’t make jokes without fanbases claiming it as “canon” immediately and forever.

Like if I were to make a story about some guy name Greg who works at a desk job or something, and then I make a joke on social media that’s like “oh yeah, haha, Greg also religiously worships Danny Gonzales” and then every time someone doesn’t draw Greg with a shine for Danny on is desk in fanart, they get flooded with comments saying “um actually 🤓☝️…” and everyone goes around saying it’s canon that Greg worships Danny as his lord and savior and goes to Danny church every Monday. Like. No. That was obviously a joke.
