Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
Also fuck this world cup in Qatar and fuck the FiFa! Those corrupt soulless creatures! This world cup is such a shame! It should never have happened in Qatar at all! They are forbidding to wear the "one love" binding some players wanted to wear and they do censor everything that has to do with diversity! It is a shame! That shows the whole corruptness of the FiFa which is exact the same as the corruptness of the IOC! The Olympic Games should also never have happened in China at all! Never.
A protestor interrupts a match at FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar repping several social and political issues.
His t-shirt had two messages, "Save Ukraine" and "Respect for Iranian woman". He also waved a flag in support of LGTB+, which has been banned in Qatar.
Correction: The flag is in fact a peace flag, which uses a similar rainbow design as that of the LGTB pride flag. The word "PACE" is printed on it meaning "peace" in Italian.
Fifa can prohibit the pride armband all they want. Now that Katie McCabe has apparently dyed her hair green, we're halfway done with our own pride-flag.
In 2019 it found that Qatar’s intense summer heat is likely to be a significant factor in many worker deaths. The Guardian’s findings were supported by research commissioned by the UN’s International Labour Organization which revealed that for at least four months of the year workers faced significant heat stress when working outside.
Qatar continues to “drag its feet on this critical and urgent issue in apparent disregard for workers’ lives”, said Hiba Zayadin, Gulf researcher for Human Rights Watch. “We have called on Qatar to amend its law on autopsies to require forensic investigations into all sudden or unexplained deaths, and pass legislation to require that all death certificates include reference to a medically meaningful cause of death,” she said.
Now that the tournament is wrapped up I'll first say that even with all the bullshit that came along with it, I still feel so privileged to be able to watch the growth of women's sports in real time like this. There was so much Black joy, so much colonized joy, so much queer joy, and I hope nobody loses sight of how radical the wwc and woso are at the roots. The players are succeeding with quite literally every odd stacked against them in some cases, and i desperately hope that with a spotlight shined on some of the inequalities we've seen, it might get better.
Having said that, I hate that Spain won. It's nothing against the players and everything against Vilda; I ache for the players who watched the final knowing that with a win, with the federation backing Vilda, their careers might be over. I'm still kind of in disbelief that after this incredible tournament, this is somehow where we ended up. And I hope that if you're feeling similar to me, that feeling will serve as a reminder that we are not done yet. Growth isn't good enough if it comes at the cost of players' well-being.
I love how as fans, we've come up with several perfect replacements for Vlatko, from coaching legend Laura Harvey to the incredible retired forward Abby Wambach to our amazing player-turned-podcaster Tobin Heath to even current players like the one and only Megan Rapinoe.
But honestly, at this point, I don't think we need the perfect replacement for Vlatko. I think we could take any guy off the street who's just willing to listen to our experienced players and do what they say, and it would be 1000000 times better.
