oh my gosh i need so badly to talk about the attention that women’s basketball is getting right now.

it’s so exciting because this sport has always been great but it’s going to be even better now that it’s getting soo much media attention.

i think having such big names like paige bueckers, caitlin clark, angel reese, juju watkins, etc. (there are also so many more underrated players but you get the point) helps so much because they’re entertaining to watch.

also i just think the sport as a whole is getting more and more competitive. like now everyone has good players and it’s not just one school/team dominating.

anyways its so amazing to see it grow because womens sports have been judged and perceived so badly for decades and it makes me so happy to see these wonderful women finally get the recognition they deserve.

hey guys i know this is super random but i'm currently in my final year of high school, and i'm doing an irp (individual research project) about women in sport.

it would seriously mean the world to me if you could complete this very short survey, as it would help me so much.

Now that the tournament is wrapped up I'll first say that even with all the bullshit that came along with it, I still feel so privileged to be able to watch the growth of women's sports in real time like this. There was so much Black joy, so much colonized joy, so much queer joy, and I hope nobody loses sight of how radical the wwc and woso are at the roots. The players are succeeding with quite literally every odd stacked against them in some cases, and i desperately hope that with a spotlight shined on some of the inequalities we've seen, it might get better.

Having said that, I hate that Spain won. It's nothing against the players and everything against Vilda; I ache for the players who watched the final knowing that with a win, with the federation backing Vilda, their careers might be over. I'm still kind of in disbelief that after this incredible tournament, this is somehow where we ended up. And I hope that if you're feeling similar to me, that feeling will serve as a reminder that we are not done yet. Growth isn't good enough if it comes at the cost of players' well-being.

i've said it before but since it seems to be coming up a lot in the news i'll say it again. no one gave a shit about womens sports until they discovered they could use it as a weapon against trans women. i am old enough to remember the "more people would watch if they played in bikinis" quips about the WNBA, and people calling Brittney Griner a man, and it's not like gender pay gaps went anywhere. Let me say that again. Brittney Griner got misgendered for being a woman who could dunk. Sports for women was a joke because apparently women didn't play as well as men, but then women who excelled in sports were talked about as if they were somehow less of a woman. I grew up hating everything about that.

And now you turn around and act like you care because you want to terrorize trans people? Real "abusive bio dad suddenly wants to be in your life again once your mom finds a partner who doesn't shower her in misogynist epithets or call you fat and he probably cooks and cleans too so mom isn't tired all the time and because she's happier you're all happier and you're doing better in school now and bio dad ambushes you drunk at Applebee's because your joy shines a spotlight on his deliberate harmful choices" energy
