Encanto OC Event Week 2

Part 2: Tomás Herrera & Others

(Part 1 Here)

The second half of my OC relationship info post - this'll include some info about Tomás's bonds with my other OCs, as well as those background OCs' relationships with each other and canon characters.

Tomás in regards to his natal family:

Tomás is the youngest in a family of four, born to Lucía and Horacio Herrera.

Lucía was a schoolteacher and volunteer in the town library, who passed away when Tomás was still a child. Tomás loved and admired his mother, considering her to have been a saint in life. The memories he has of her are fond ones, recalling her as being a kind woman without a bad word to say about anyone. He thinks highly of her optimism and humility, and her ability to make anyone feel understood and listened to.

Lucía as well as Tomás's older brother, Mateo, are both canonically deceased as per the events of the story the Herrera family is introduced in. This leaves Tomás and his father as the last living of their family within the Encanto.

Horacio used to be a mason, having to retire early due to weakness in his legs. Between this and the loss of his parents, his wife, and eventually his oldest son, Horacio sometimes thinks he's cursed - but his one silver lining is his remaining son, Tomás. Horacio has zero qualms about being openly affectionate with Tomás both physically and verbally, and though he's a little oblivious at times, he only wants the best for his boy. Tomás in turn is a loyal and protective son to Horacio, willing to put up with a little embarrassment if it makes his father happy. It doesn't matter how old Tomás gets, he'll always be his papá's conejito.

It's a bit self-indulgent of me, but I'm of the mind that when Tomás marries into the family, Casita springs up a small in-law suite for Horacio so he won't have to spend his days in an empty house. I also am of the mind that in their youth Horacio and Bruno were quite friendly with each other, due to both more or less being underdogs with not a lot of friends between them.

Horacio likely approached Bruno before his wife's passing, just on the off chance he saw her make a miraculous recovery. That isn't what he saw, of course. But though devastated, Horacio accepted the result with as much grace as he could and didn't blame Bruno or his visions for the bad news.

They ended up losing touch when Bruno became more withdrawn and eventually "left", but upon Bruno's return to society their friendship ends up picking right back up where it left off. When Tomás marries into the family and Horacio tags along, he and Bruno spend a good amount of their time having tea and playing cards as old men tend to do.

The Patch:

The Patch, or El Parche, is the group name I use to refer to Camilo's small group of older friends, including Tomás (as introduced in the previous post). They're childhood friends; as a unit and individually they're all well-liked young men within their peers and the community as a whole, decently popular in different ways. They initially were meant to be unnamed background characters whose designs were pulled from random Encantownies, but I accidentally got attached to them and now they all have proper designs and development. Such is my life.--

Cristián Vargas, Rafael Molina, Santiago Torres, Tomás Herrera

Santiago (22) is the oldest not only of the friend group but of his own siblings, of which he's got 6 younger sisters and brothers. He's the designated 'mom friend' by nature, easily slotting into leadership positions and able to keep a handle on multiple goings-on at once. That said he very much is a mother hen type, a bit fussy and prone to scolding his siblings and friends (usually Rafael) whenever they start steering towards bad decisions.

Tomás and Santi are usually on the same page when it comes to caution and forethought, contrasting with Rafa and Cris's more go-with-the-flow attitudes. Santi's compassionate nature makes it easy for him to pick up on what Tomás is feeling without him voicing it, taking it upon himself to either make decisions based on what Tomás would most prefer or urging the others to do so instead. Tomás appreciates Santi looking out for him, feeling it alleviates pressure off of his own shoulders when he's unsure of what to do.

Rafael (21) is the most boisterous of all of them, the beacon of activity and extroversion to balance out his more subdued companions. He's a risk-taker and extremely liberal-minded about topics that usually wouldn't be openly bragged out, often leading to Santi urging him to keep it down (which will inevitably be ignored or expanded upon specifically to make Santi flustered).

His loud and brash personality clashes with Tomás's reserved ways, but the two have a unique bond despite the expected incompatibility; Rafael is not at all discouraged by Tomás's quietness and Tomás isn't put off by Rafael's brazenness. They both think the other is easy to communicate with - Tomás never has to guess what Rafa's feelings are and Rafa likes Tomás's predilection for being a listening ear.

Cristián (20) is far old enough now to have an identity and social circle separate to those of his twin brother César, but when he was a young child he used to be very shy and hesitant to leave his brother's side. When Santi and Rafa became his friends it was the first time he felt comfortable with something (or someone) that was more or less his own - so when his new friends started chatting with Tomás he felt a little threatened. Fears of abandonment were unfounded though, as not only did his friends not dump him in favor of the New Kid, but he very quickly realized why they liked Tomás and ended up getting attached to him too.

As adults they have similar mellow temperaments and get along quite nicely, though Cris's vastly improved self-assurance has made him a lot more laidback and unflappable than the more organized and prim Tomás. Tomás admires Cris's ability to be both steadfast and considerate, unwavering in what he believes in but knowing when to handle situations with delicateness and care.

When Camilo entered the picture and turned the Patch into a five-man-band, all four of the older members collectively decided that he was more or less their joint little brother. Santiago attempts to provide Camilo with proper advice and look out for him in ways an older brother should, which often means trying to make sure Rafael keeps his crude language in check around him. Rafael usually does not, taking a completely different approach to being and older brother and totally enabling Camilo's mischievous nature. Cristián is somewhere in the middle, oftentimes siding with Santi or Rafa purely based on what he think would have the most entertaining result.

Beyond this though Cris is a unique source of understanding for Camilo, as Cris is the only other person he knows who doesn't experience romantic attraction for anyone and has no interest in dating. He could have asked Bruno, of course, but solidarity feels a little better coming from someone close to his own age rather than his quirky hermit uncle.--

Cris, Santi and Rafa are the older brothers to Cecilia, Alejandra and Juancho (the town kids) respectively.

Other relationships to Encantownies include:

Santi and Alejandra have five other siblings, and José (the tall fellow Camilo shifts into near the start of the movie) is their tío. Osvaldo is a tío to Rafael and Juancho, as well as their teenaged sister. Cris's parents are seen bringing Cecilia into Casita before Antonio's ceremony, and his twin brother César is the young man who asks Luisa to help upright his leaning house.

Other OCs:

Claudia Reyes (19) is the young lady with the drum seen during The Family Madrigal, whose family owns the music shop they're playing in front of. Beside her are her brother-in-law on the left and her father on the right.

She's Rafael's long-time girlfriend, on his same wavelength of open-mindedness and free spirit. They've been in a strange will-they-won't-they situation since they were teenagers, with Rafael playing it off like they're not all that serious and just messing around. Everyone knows Rafa's totally full of it and is head over heels for her though, including Claudia who's more or less just waiting for him to finally get around to proposing. They're going to have at least 4 kids together.

She knows the rest of the Patch more or less as her boyfriend's friends, but there's still rapport between them and Claudia's more than welcome to hang with the boys whenever she wants. On top of that, she's also Luisa's good friend who oftentimes will suggest Luisa try out outrageous things in an effort to push her out of her comfort zone.

The town librarian, usually referred to as the Maestro, is an enigmatic yet helpful figure in town whose mission in life is the sharing of knowledge. They can be considered everyone's friend, though like Horacio they have a kinship with Bruno that goes back quite a few years. All perfectly platonic, mind you! Additionally, given Lucía's history of volunteering in the library, the Maestro also is on good terms with the Herrera family and still keeps in touch with Horacio pretty regularly.

And I think those are the most notable relationships to get into for now! Up next will be the AU posts, and... boy, do I have a lot of those. 🫠

Vanessa Sullivan (The Dark Knight Trilogy)

How to Make a Monster: Essentially her origin story and how she met and became involved with Jonathan. I had so much fun examining her psychology and motivations, and the development of her relationship with Jonathan is I think one of the better steady burn romances I've written.

Lucy Winters (Peaky Blinders)

Lady of the Various Sorrows: This was the hardest to pick just one because I have so many fics that I'm proud of for this OC. But this is a fic I'd had in my head for a long time before it was written and I'm really proud of how I built up to it over time in my other works with her and the balance of angst and fluff. I think it's the best depiction I've done of Lucy, Tommy, and Grace's relationship.

Alice Emerson (Inception)

A Sleepless Dream: I'm a sucker for childhood best friends to lovers and this fic allowed me to entirely indulge on that trope to my heart's content. Both Alice and Robert are very sweet, sensitive people which was a bit new for me to write since many of my characters are more emotionally guarded. I'm still really proud of how I managed to expand more on Robert's character from what we get of him in the film.

Daisy Preston (Dunkirk)

In the Heart of War: This was my first ever attempt to write one of my OCs into the canon story they were involved in, and I'm still very happy with the result!

Rose Mason (In Time)

The Clockwork Laws: I say this with love, but this fic was a pain in the ass to write. I went back multiple times once I got about halfway through and scrapped everything and started over because I wasn't happy with it. The canon material made it a challenge to write from a worldbuilding standpoint, but that ended up being kinda fun in the end. Also was my first time dabbling in writing enemies to lovers.

Lily Callaghan (Platoon)

Arrival: It was a scene I'd had in my head for a long time, and I really enjoyed being able to capture that moment when Lily first meets Elias and also her anxiety and fear over being sent to war.

New Romantics (Part IX)

Carlos Sainz x OC x Mason Mount

Author’s note : thank you all so much for spending time to read this short story. I didn’t know whether this would make it until the end, but it did. And I am more than glad. I love both of these men immensel. Please forgive me for the ending. I promise in my third fan fic story (yes the second one is on the road), the mistreated guy, will have a good ending! For now, enjoy the final part. Much love and appreciation:)

Warnings: fluff, a tad of tearjerker

Carlos’s words left me teared up. He’s been a massive part of my life and will always be. He’s a man I fell for hard. I could have given him every single of my love’s last drop. Sadly, my love was mistreated. Something that neither of us wanted to happen.

He’s a man that will always be special to me in many ways. He made me smile and giggle when I wasn’t feeling happy. He made me cheer for him because of his successes. But he also made me cry. He broke my heart into a thousand pieces. A heart he disappointingly couldn’t mend.

But Mason did. He mended it in the best way possible. He is my saving grace. He will get my love’s last drop. Whenever he is around, I feel safe. I know that he will protect me. And for that I am more than thankful to him.

My life with Mason’s has been in “rollercoaster mode” for many years. Now, it’s finally back on track. The old version of myself would question “Why Mason and not Carlos?”

The new version replied “I’m glad it’s Mason and not Carlos”. With Carlos, it would have felt wrong. Forbidden. Unsafe and risky. We are better of as friends. I will always be a supporter of him, but being a girlfriend at the same time would hurt.

Whereas with Mason, everything feels right. Like pieces falling into place. Absolute peace and heal. He’s more than I could ask for. I knew from the first moment, that he would make me happy. And he does!

The British Grand Prix, finished off on a high. A high I am more than pleased to have witnessed firsthand. What a major success for Carlos! The happiness in me wasn’t contained once I heard Crofty saying:

“A man making his 150th start, from pole position, he’s going to take victory, and for the first time in Formula One, Carlos Sainz, is victorious! He wins the British Grand Prix”

I felt the entire Ferrari garage, next to McLaren’s all shaken up and screaming or shouted at the top of their lungs. Even a few McLaren employees were happy for Carlos. As a former member of their team, it was more than sure that they were rooting for him.

I had a big smile plastered all over my face. This was a moment worth treasuring. Mason knew everything that had occurred a few days ago between me and Carlos. I would never hold anything back from him. He deserved to know everything.

“Quinn, go congratulate him. I will be waiting here” he softly caressed my back and whispered in my ear

“No, no. It’s okay. I will text him afterwards”

“Baby, I understand who he was to you before we got together. I’m not angry nor jealous. You chose me. He’s your friend. Go!”

If Mason wasn’t the most thoughtful and sweet man on earth, I don’t know who is then!

I removed my headset and ran towards the podium before a lot of people could surround the place. First in line, along with Oñoro, Rupert, Carlos Sr and the Ferrari crew. I switched on my camera as I saw Carlos walking on top of the podium.

Checo and Lewis both started clapping and cheering for their fellow driver and first time winner. After years of anticipation, he made it. This was one of my proudest moments.

When Carlos eyed me during the celebration, a happy expression covered his entire face. My heart fluttered with this sight. I was sad to let him go, but it was the best for the both of us in the end.

“I am sorry things ended like this between you” Rupert said as we were clapping for the other two drivers

“I will always love Carlos. Nothing will change that. He knows I will always be by his side. Even when I wasn’t present, I rooted for him. No matter how hurt I was”

“He loves you more than you can imagine. But he was willing to sacrifice his love for your happiness. I hope Mount treats you well, otherwise, he’ll deal with the Spanish gang, featuring the Brit, of course”

I let out a giggle and hugged both of the men in Carlos’s team one last time. I hated that this was goodbye.

I looked up one last time, only to see Carlos mouthing something at me.

“I need to see you”

I waited for the winner to come down and be congratulated by his team first and then me.

“I don’t know if you wanna be hugged by a sweaty-“ before he could finish his sentence, I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed him as tight as I could.

“Thank you for staying until the end. It means a lot to me” he said trying to catch his breath.

“I hope Mason understand and won’t be mad afterwards. I truly don’t wanna ruin anything”

“He’s not. He’s the one who encouraged me to come up and congratulate you. He knows who you were and are to me.”

“I’m glad to see you smile Quinn. I missed seeing you like this. And I am sorry for being the reason this smile was wiped away.”

“Everything is in the past Carlos. Don’t think about this now. We can let it go.”

“I wish you all the best in life. Forgive me for not being the one who would give you the world. I hope Mason does. He truly loves you.”

“Enjoy your victory. It’ll be one of the many. I am proud of you. Farewell Carlos. I love you”

Before I leave, I plant a small kiss on his cheek as a goodbye. I can feel Carlos’s head wanting to turn around but holds back. He knows we wouldn’t work. There was an us but it was weak.

4 months later

“When are you flying to Qatar?” Lando asked me quietly

“Few days before the Grand Prix starts. Mason needs to get there earlier. Southgate wants them to familiarize with the surroundings”

“So we will meet there won’t we?”

“Once you arrive to Qatar, let us know”

“Sure”

Lando was trying to hold back tears. It was the final race of the season. And the second time my brother had to say goodbye to a teammate.

The news broke out around August…

“Daniel Ricciardo is parting ways with McLaren, ending his contract one year earlier”

We all knew Danny was on a rough patch but never would have imagined this ending. The day I saw the news, was during one of the games against Crystal Palace. I simply opened my phone to film Mason when a notification from Sky Sports popped up.

It was half time and Mason looked up to the grandstands, only to be met with a shocked expression on my face, with a few tears rolling down my eyes. He didn’t waste time to come and find me.

“Daniel is leaving. I need to go to my brother”

Was all I said to him. Mason understood, so we both flew to Belgium, which was the first race taking place after the summer break.

Loosing Carlos was hard. It hurt him. He didn’t want Daniel as his teammate. With Carlos they were best friends. Inseparable. When his relationship with Daniel reached equal levels, he was taken away too. My brother was disappointed. He was going to lose another friend. And this time, he wouldn’t see him on the grid. He’d be gone.

“I’m so sorry Lan. I know firsthand how difficult this can be. Neither of you deserved this. I hope he’s still around and visit you. I know he will. Even if he doesn’t get picked up by another team”

Trying to comfort Lando days like this was heartbreaking. One of the few times I see him cry. Daniel was like his big brother. They’ve gotten so close over the last year.

“How are you feeling Mase?” I said to my boyfriend while his eyes were wandering all over the view.

“I can’t believe this is happening!” He put his hand on his mouth to cover the gasp he let out from the shock

“Believe it. Because it’s real. And you made this happen!” I take his hands into mine and let him enjoy his surroundings one final time before I leave for my hotel.

Mason turns his focus on me. He always inspects me with such tenderness and love in his eyes, that the butterflies won’t stop fluttering. Everything feels so perfect. Spending those months around Mason have been an absolute bliss. I’ve never felt happier.

“I hate that we have to stay separately. I’m so used to waking up next to you, that it will feel weird not having you by my side” he cups my cheeks, caressing them softly

“Me too. But I will visit every day after training and be first in line at all the matches. And you can FaceTime me whenever you want” a smirk formed on Mason’s face

“Are you suggesting phone sex missy? Because I’m all in” he grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him, started to spread kisses all over my collarbone.

I grabbed his face in my hands and smashed our lips together. I love him. Three words I haven’t been able to say in order not to scare him off. I know that himself has said that he wants to be with me and shows this type of affection but foremost we were friends. “I love you” to us was a way of saying “you’re my best friend”. Now, it has a completely different meaning.

“I love you Mason. More than you could ever imagine.” Escapes my mouth after we break the kiss. My heart is beating so fast, I feel like it will come out of my chest

“Then great! Because I plan on loving you forever. You’re my It, Quinn. I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else but you. You’re the reason that even after a bad game I still smile. Because I know you’re next to me whatever happens”

I hug Mason so tightly, as if it’s the last time I will ever see him. Who would have told me that I would end up falling in love with my best friend and mend a very broke heart.

“You’re my best friend and first love. I don’t intend to love someone else more than you. You walked a path with me that I would want to keep on crossing, only if it’s with you”

Fin.

Their worst enemy: Himself, to be perfectly honest. But if we’re talking other people, definitely Mitch for everything he put his dad and Ben through.

Their saddest moment: When the group was in the Mason tomb and thought for a moment that there actually was no treasure. For all Laurens had tried to distance himself from the family “conspiracy theory” and claim that he didn’t believe in it, it was also the thing that had brought him back together with his father and brother, so thinking that it might not have been real after all devastated him.

Their first love: His college roommate’s best friend and his first boyfriend, a boy named Jay, who Laurens still thinks about from time to time.

Their happy place: Curled up on his couch with his notebook and a cup of coffee, scratching out story ideas with Riley curled up against his side, cuddling him while he writes.

Do they believe in ghosts or not?: Whenever someone asks him that, his response is always, “I’m an author, of course I believe in ghosts”. And he does.

Their favourite snack: Pretzels with some queso to dip them in.

Their go-to method for letting off steam: Creating a character that embodies whatever he’s frustrated about and then writing a short scene that kills them off.

Their type in lover/partner (if they have those desires): Someone who understands him, who will be there for him on the tough days, and who will be willing to put up with his dysfunctional family.

If they have a lucky object: The pen with which he wrote most of his first novel before he typed it up, and the notebook he wrote it in.

Time to make some proper profiles for the ygo ocs! So, we'll start off with Kat!

Name: Katherine Grace Mercer. Nicknames: Kat, Kit-Kat, Kitty-Kat, Kitty Girl (by Max), Kitty (by Cecelia), Katie (by Wes and Mason), Katiedid (by Mason). Aliases: Kat Pegasus. Nationality: American. Birthplace: Creightonsville, Tennessee. Age: 16-17 years old. Birthday: May 9th. Gender: Cis female; she/her pronouns. Sexuality: Pansexual. Occupation: Professional Duelist, Domino High Student (after moving to Domino), Vice President of Industrial Illusions. Ideal V.A,: Megan Hilty.

Hair Color: Brown. Hair Style: Long, mid back length, very floofy and with tons of volume, very thick. Has some natural wave to it. Bangs part at the center and frame her face. Eye Color: Green. Skintone: Fair, with warm undertones. Height: 5'6". Build: More of a triangular body shape with lean muscle in her arms and legs. Overall Personality: Very competitive and passionate about whatever she throws herself into, and especially Duel Monsters. Really plays up the big bubbly, excitable and determined personality, especially out in public, she can't let it be known that anything bothers her. Is a very quick thinker and loves getting to strategize and piece things together for herself. Very loving and kind, especially to those she truly values as part of her life and would literally do anything for those she cares about or for people in need, though this self sacrificing nature can also be equally as self destructive for herself. She's also incredibly stubborn and doesn't give up on the matters she sees as worth it. Backstory:

Born to an Olympic Equestrian and an actress.

Her older sister was diagnosed with her illness when Kat was about 3.

Grew up trying to keep her sisters spirits high and the two having this beautiful and inseparable bond with each other, especially in the face of their parents marriage troubles they did their best to keep from the girls, and their mothers narcissitic and controlling tendencies.

Grew up with her cousins whenever they got to visit and was especially close to her cousin, Sonia, they were best friends.

Played a very early, early prototype to Duel Monsters, before it was ever Duel Monsters, in the hospital rooms her sister frequented.

Lost a lot of her family within a year of each other; the Harmonia sinking, then Mason passing away in a car accident, then Cecelia and then Evangeline. Would be adopted by her godparents, who the will dictated were to take her in the event anything happened to her parents; the agreement was decided as the best move by both them, Maximillion and Wes.

Moved to San Francisco with her godparents, Maddox, her nieces and Max when Industrial Illusions properly started up.

Got to beta test Duel Monsters for her big brother and competed and won in the very first tournament.

Continued the tournament circuit, making time for her family as much as she could.

Met Kaiba at a tournament and they quickly became dedicated rivals and her goal has been to beat him some day, as he was the only person she had never beaten before.

Is with Max when he gets the news that Kaiba has been defeated and she's more upset that somebody beat him before she did than anything else; though, there is definitely quite a bit of surprise when she goes to try and figure out who this Yugi kid is and finds he himself has an Item like the one Max has as a fake eye.

Goes to Duelist Kingdom to watch, since she was barred from competing, and begins to uncover more than she could have ever imagined.

I'm so sorry for taking literal ages to get to this ask, but thank you so much for sending it in!

Honestly, neither. All of my fics/WIPs have all been pretty serious, I've never gotten to a point where I've come up with something light to make me laugh or readers laugh. However, I've definitely made myself sad thinking of ideas for fics! The OC's that I get sad the most about are all of them just kidding, no, actually it'd have to be Atsuki Koyanagi, Harlow Maye, Kim-001, and Grace Hennessy; I put these characters through a lot and it makes me sad.

7. What is your favourite sentence/paragraph? Read it to us! (Asker can choose what fic)

I already answered this here, but I scoured my WIPs that I kept and found a conversation that I loved writing, it's a bit long, so I apologize in advance and I'll put it below a 'keep reading'! It's a conversation between President Snow and Harlow Maye from my Hunger Games WIP.

"You wished to see me, President Snow?"

"Ah yes, come in Miss Maye. I offer you my condolences on the death of your youngest sister. She had a much different approach to the Games than you did and I was quite hoping she would win."

"Yes, I'm sure you did. Because then you would have both myself and her under your grasp, with half - if not all of the Capitol - clawing and scrambling to get their chance to spend the night with the new Golden Siblings of Panem."

"Now Miss Maye-"

"What? What are you going to do? Kill me? You can't. I'm loved by the Capitol and the Districts, you kill me and you'll have riots in the Districts and your own backyard. You couldn't afford that. Hurt me or kill me and District 10 rebels; they'll cut off all trains going in the Capitol filled with livestock for you and your precious Capitolians. And if that happens, you lose a significant amount of your food source and risk riots from your own people. Bomb or attack District 10 and the same outcome happens. You can't take that risk. Kill my family? You've already seen to that, so that's no longer an option. Sell me to the wealthy of the Capitol? The cruelest, wealthiest, and most powerful of the Capitol? You've already done that and still, here I am. You can't touch me. You can't do anything to me."

"But you still have people you care about! Friends you love! Gloss, Cashmere, Finnick Odair, Johanna Mason, Amos - all of them Victors, all people you care about. I can harm them; I can hurt them."

"They are Victors, three of them are beloved by the Capitol nearly as much as I am. You can't touch-"

"All Victors were once tributes, Miss Maye. And the 75th Hunger Games are just a few months away. Who's to say what surprises the Third Quarter Quell will have in store?

"You may think you have the upper hand here, Miss Maye, but you are out of your league. This is my area of expertise, you are merely a pawn. A piece in a game much bigger than you could ever be. Do not underestimate me. Do not overestimate your sway in things. You are nothing."

13. Do you make playlists for when you write? If so, share!

I actually don't! When I'm writing I like to have what I'm writing for playing in the background so that I have something I can go back to and look at for reference during a specific scene. I'll also play it on repeat which usually kills my muse for that OC quickly, unfortunately. I'll also listen to the soundtrack of the show or movie while I'm editing as well, just so that I can really get into the feel of things. Like for I Am Your Shield, I Am Your Sword, I edited what I have for NaNo and listened to the soundtrack while I was editing to get into a 'Halo mindset.' So unfortunately nothing exciting!

🍄 What are your OCs favourite snacks? Their favourite comfort food which always cheers them up when they’re down? Favourite meal to make? Do they enjoy baking and cooking and are they any good in the kitchen?

Oughhh first of all. He LOVES gummy worms. That’s his go-to. Especially the “red flavor.” He’s okay in the kitchen—proficient, but not a particularly inspired cook. He can follow instructions just fine but if you leave him to his own devices he’s more likely to just microwave something, or at least make something very bland and easy. I think the only time he really enjoyed cooking was in the few years leading up to his death—and even then, he mostly just liked it because he saw it as a bonding experience with Mason (a man who all but adopted him), who is very into fresh homemade food. Post-death, he just. Does not cook. At all. For years. It brings back some rough memories and he just can’t be around kitchen knives at all for a while. After one really unfortunate mental breakdown in the community kitchen he gets taken off cooking duties and given extra janitorial chores instead. I think in the distant future he might to enjoy cooking again as a way to care for his friends and chosen family, once he regains enough mobility in his hands. But at the point the story takes place, he’s years off from that

🌻 What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?

For a lot of these I think the answer is highly dependent on what point he’s at in his life. During periods where he’s doing better mentally speaking (namely the ~4 years before his death while he’s living with Mason, and ~9+ years after his death when he begins to trust people again) he notices a lot of little things about the people he cares about! He loves the normalcy of helping Mason take care of his garden, he loves cooking with Mason, he loves Tef’s hidden wisdom and butch style and her laugh, he loves Sera’s strength and grace and dedication, he loves Mason’s art and cooking and hugs. During the years of his life where he won’t let himself get too close to people, he doesn’t have frequent happy moments, but I think he does find a bit more enjoyment and calm in natural things (he likes birds and bugs a lot). Depression is depression, but just being outside and getting his hands dirty is nice.

🌸 What are some of their favourite things and why? List as many as you can think of!

He likes pigeons (sees them as friends), gummy worms (tasty!), bugs (just thinks they’re cool), cooking (as bonding time with Mason), sparring (as bonding time with Sera), lying on the floor hanging out (as bonding time with Tef), night time (nice and quiet), learning* (*not while he’s in school, but it turns out learning can be fun when you’re doing it on your own terms!), reading in general (again, only after he drops out of school, not while he’s still enrolled), his tattoos (given to him by mason, who he loves, and also match all his favorite people—his feelings about the tats are much more complicated than that, but mostly he likes them and is proud of them).

At the start of the story he’d list the god of death as one of his favorite things but I personally would not because that is Not a healthy relationship lmao!

I have decided that for my Holiday fanfic with Cody Fern, their will be an OC and they will be a friend to lovers. But mostly in the time they are dating.

And I am planning on posting this fanfic on 25th December. So it can be in the morning for some people or it can be night time for some people. But I will be posting on December 25th.

And after my Holiday fanfic, I will be posting my new fanfics in the new year. So if you want my second Jim Mason fanfic that will be out in 2024 and so will my Austin Butler fanfic.

History:

Grew up in Creightonsville as the younger of the two sisters.

Dealt with her parents fighting a lot in their marriage, especially as Cecelia got sicker, as well as her mother's distance and neglect towards her, and her never ending screaming matches and put downs of a lot of the other family members.

Experienced a lot of familial loss very early on in her life and repeatedly so -- first with the Gayles (dear family friends, with Jonathan Gayle being her father's best friend), then with her cousins the Knightons along with Max's parents on the Harmonia, then her father, sister, mother and eventually her grandfather as well.

Her Aunt and Uncle got custody of her after Evie's death and raised her.

Her family also would end up desperately fighting the courts to try and get custody of Raphael after he got back from the islands, having to deal with the Allard side of the family and all communication to him being cut off and denied. After he was thrown out, they still did everything they could to find him.

When Max created Industrial Illusions, Kat became the beta tester for the game, along with being named the heir apparent for the company.

Met Seto and Mokuba at a party when they were 12 years old, and developed a little bit of a crush on Seto. This would bloom into years long rivalry after he took over KaibaCorp and could actually get into Dueling, as she could never beat him and it drove her up a wall.

Was recently named Vice President of I2 at the time the fic starts at the age of 16.
