hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

"Look, okay, I get it, I like peanut butter, you like sharks. It's a thing, whatever. But seriously, dude - what the fuck?" - Or, Lance has Autism Spectrum Disorder and this can cause him to fixate on some things. Like, maybe, for instance, great white sharks. For example.

yes i like this series for projection reasons. whatever. it was also one of the first autistic lance fics out there!! and its v heavy in platonic relationships yall are gonna love it

Keith couldn't believe it. He was part Galra. That was hard enough to deal with... But then he realized that he would have to tell the rest of the team. He couldn't help but fear how they would react. In which Keith reveals that he's part Galra after facing the Blade of Marmora's trials.

Pidge is still close —closer than is entirely comfortable if he has to be honest— giving him an evaluating glance. Lance doesn’t really know where to look, other than up her nose— but that grows old pretty fast. So he looks at himself in the reflection of her glasses. And squints. He touches his own face for the first time since waking up— and feels the roughness of his chin. “I have stubble,” he says, and the words are as alarmed as they can be even though they still sound slightly slurred, slightly off. Pidge blinks a couple of times at him, and finally retracts into a more comfortable distance. “Well, yeah,” she says. “You are like, what? 22? 23 in a couple of months?” “I’m feeling— I’m feeling a little queasy,” he says then, with bright spots of color dancing in front of his eyes as he thinks 22. Suddenly, a bucket gets shoved against his face. He takes hold of it with clammy fingers and he leans on his side so he can... use it. Thoroughly. “I’m having Garrison flashbacks,” he hears Pidge say. (Or: Lance is stung by an alien bug, loses his memories temporarily and makes assumptions about his and Keith's relationship. Also, Pidge cheats at Uno.)

losing your memories. and waking up. and someone treats you so kindly and lovingly that you know, immediately, in the bones of you, that they love you. and the feeling in your chest even if your brain doesnt remember of love for them tells you clearly that this person is your soulmate. i am going to LOSE IT

4. Love in the Times of (Intergalactic) War by MemeKonVLD

Lance: Oh, man. [I see him grow visibly excited here, leaning forward and putting his hands up— he’s big on gesticulating, as anyone who’s watched the pilots of Voltron host SNL a couple of months ago knows.] Space is vast. I know that’s not groundbreaking knowledge there, and everyone’s somewhat aware of it, but— being up there? traveling around space for years, and knowing we never even— we never even came near to touching upon a tenth of what’s out there? That’s cool, weird and scary all in one.

He’s aware of Lance talking to him, but he’s still too asleep to try to decipher whatever it is he’s blabbering about. He only starts paying attention when one of Lance’s hands goes to the drawstring of his pajama pants. “Whoa, what are you doing?” He asks, slapping Lance’s hand away, cheeks warm. “You,” Lance starts, pointing at him (and Keith notices that for all he’s made fun of him for the last forever for them, he’s wearing his fingerless gloves), “are not screwing up my skin care routine, man.” (AKA: the one where Keith and Lance switch bodies.)

suave keith and flustered lance my BELOVED. swapped bodies truly has to be one of the top ten tropes of all time. love watching them be in love and also stupid

yall DO NOT UNDERSTAND how much i love this fucking fic. i read it one time when i was like 16, before i started bookmarking fics, and then a couple years ago i spent TWELVE GODDAMN DAYS sifting through every fic in my history to find this. i LOVE this fic. i love will having a strange scattering of powers he doesnt really advertise. its so fun and exciting. i also love 5+1 fics w my whole soul

i mentioned my love for 5+1s. this one has SO MUCH. theres a sprinkling of implied autistic leo, explicit nonbinary nico, lesbian piper, some LOVELY leo & piper moments (i love them so bad), and jason just like. deciding he is going to be obvious and start dating leo. while leo is sitting there like ?????? sir????? and setting himself on fire is so so funny to me

met doing laundry at 2am college au - Nico likes his alone time and is more then a little pissed off when annoying med student Will Solace throws his routine off balance.

ONE OF MY TOP TEN FAVE ROSYREDLIPSTICK FICS.....LIKE I GIGGLE EVERY TIME!!! nothing is funnier to me than nico trying to be the wickedest grouch and he just. cant. because will makes him smile without meaning to. and theyre STRANGERS?? AND THIS IS STILL HAPPENING?? like i go feral every time. also the WAY nico was eyeing him...boy i get you 😭😭

4. water splashin' and sun shinin' by @rosyredlipstick

Nico is absolutely aghast with the conditions he's forced to work under. Sure, the surf shack has air conditioning and a fully stocked snack area, and the wifi isn't bad, and it doesn't hurt that's he's in the shade all day, but how in the gods names is he expected to work when lifeguard Will Solace won't put on a damn shirt?

no trope and i mean NO trope will ever be better than both will and nico being catastrophically humiliatingly ninth circle of hell chipping away to find the tenth down bad for each other. and not doing anything about it for weeks. just constant thirsting and pining it is so so SO funny to me. that is their dynamic. and a fic where will just has an excuse to never wear a shirt and nico has an excuse (no he doesn't) to stare...they are so constantly real

i think i have been doing these fic rec fridays long enough to tell yall my truth: fics written in 2016 were elite. i dont know what it is about the year, but consistently, fics, especially by prolific authors, written in 2016 have something special that just make you read them eight billion times. this was one of those fics where i read it to the end, kudosed, and then scrolled right back up to the top and read again. so so so fun. rizzed up nico RIGHTS

WHY I LOVE IT

When Em first teased this fic, I damn near lost my mind. Nothing could have prepared me for how much I would love it, and reading it altered my brain chemistry. Em is a master at creating atmosphere, adding details and descriptions that paint a vivid picture. She sets up the characters, the dynamic, and the situation just enough to keep readers grounded in reality for when the fantasy takes over. Dilf!Bob is one sexy motherfucker, and if I had to tell you all the reasons I love him, we’d be here all day. Packed into this fic are all the tropes and kinks that melt my brain: praise, orgasm control, possessiveness, forbidden relationship, and an age gap. Another aspect that I enjoyed was the dirty talk. It’s not the most explicit I’ve ever read, but I think it speaks to Bob’s age in this fic. He’s older and more sophisticated, but he still has a mouth on him, and what a mouth it is. The true standout moments in this fic, however, is the communication. Sure, it’s absolutely filthy smut that made so hot and bothered I couldn’t think straight, but Bob and Reader communicate. There’s consent, and check-ins throughout to make sure consent is still enthusiastically given, along with talks of safe sex, including the use of protection and birth control. It doesn’t feel awkward or misplaced, but like a natural part of the story, as it always should be. Consent is sexy. Using protection is sexy. Interwoven with the smut are moments of reality, of normalcy that could take the reader out of the story, but never do because that’s how skillful of a writer Em is. This fic made me crave Dilf!Bob and made me yearn for him to buy me lingerie and do unholy things to me. It’s a fic I keep coming back to, and it gets better with every read.

WHAT ARE BYPASS FILTERS?

A bypass filter, also known as a pressure relief valve, is a very important part of an oil filter. When oil is too thick or the filter is clogged, the valve opens. If the valve doesn’t open then the filter may eventually burst.

Bypass filters are designed to remove fine organic and inorganic particles. It also increases the total volume of oil used. Thus, if you have contamination issues and want to extend operating equipment life, extend lube oil & service intervals, and consider adding bypass filters. We can say that Bypass filtration can be considered another aspect to save money and downtime.

Most of the existing manufacturers use ‘full-flow’ oil filters which are designed to protect the component from large particles but they cannot remove soot, water, or silt. Full-flow filters alone cannot keep oil clean for a long-term period. The fine particles which account for most of the contamination can be removed by the bypass filters.

It is advised to do the homework before buying a bypass filter. Some important factors to consider are:

1) Capture efficiency - The higher the beta ratio, the better will be the capture efficiency. A good beta ratio selection can control the escape of particles through the element. It is just like a good shepherd keeping the flock of sheep in a controlled and organized manner in the field.

2) Pressure/flow - Suitably designed filter element has calculated flow and velocity of oil through its microvoids. It is as important as keeping the water stream in a controlled way for gardening purposes. Else, it may spoil the sole purpose of watering.

3) Dirt Holding Capacity - It is not only necessary to have high capture efficiency but also a good filter element capacity is a must-have to retain the collected contamination. A well-engineered element has dedicated space to imprison the unwanted contaminants.

4) Heating element (to eliminate solid and liquid contaminants) - An elevated temperature helps to dislodge the solid contaminants and accelerates the rate of removal of volatile impurities.

5) Type of filtration media - Filter media varies with grade and type of oil widely. This may be a fine filter paper to absolute and depth filter media.

6) Compatibility of fluid - Not every filter element can be used with any grade of oil. A small mistake in element selection can destroy the element as well as may cause a collapse of the entire system.

7) Surface area for the filtration – The higher surface area will give a lower pressure drop across the filter and also helps to achieve higher flow rates.

8) Compact in size - Reduction of size in regards to the filter elements and housing gives us multiple benefits like space and cost-saving, aesthetic look, better maintainability, low recurring expenditure, etc.

9) Inexpensive to use and install - At the end of every engineering and calculation, economics comes into the picture. It is always suggested to go with optimized design and correct sizing to overcome financial constraints.

We don’t need any additional setup to establish a Bypass filtration system; it can be done within the existing skilled limits. Please note that a bypass filtration system can be of great benefit if installed and maintained appropriately and it helps to prevent post-filtration fugitive contamination ingress into the system.

One more night and in the morning they would be sailing through the inky black. Everyone had sort of a free day. Adam went to “The Jasmin Dragon” to add to the art decoration on the walls and catch up with James and Rowen. Danny was playing basketball with ex-crewmates. That left Justin to find something to pass the time. He grew up on a farming planet and once he got his license he did short-distance trips until he met “ Shadow ” and her crew. As a kid, he always dreamt of exploring planets, moons, and everything in between. It would be three years ago in a week, that he had accepted the job from Adam. Justin didn’t have the galactic friends the others had.

It was just after lunch when Justin got the message from Maynard asking if he wanted to help run his friend's pet shop. He was bored and they would get paid for the work.

“The Paw and Claw” He read outside the small pet shop. The bell dinged as he opened the glass door and stepped in. The place was busy, and a tad chaotic. Fish tanks lined one wall. The opposite has turtles, snakes, and other small animals. In the center were two big pens one with dogs and puppies and the other with cats and kittens. A hand on his shoulder startled him.

“Blue eyes. Curls pass your shoulders. You must be Justin,” Someone started steering him to the back of the shop. “We’re about to hit the morning rush. People tend to pick up a pet before heading out to the black. Maynard needs help. “

“wots - “

“Carmin. And You are way prettier than he described, and your aura is beautiful.” the voice was neither female of male. They were beautiful purple and black curls, gray eyes, and porcelain skin. “Well go on.” They pushed him through the door meant for the owner and employees.

“It’s alright. “ Maynard spoke soft and tender. A pained meow answered him. “You’ve got one beautiful little baby and just 5 more to go. You’re doing great.”

“Meow!” That one sounded even more painful. The blue walls, a color meant to calm, didn’t seem to help.

“Uhh Nardo?”

Maynard jumped a bit before turning around then gesturing for him to come closer. “Carmin recognized you I see.” He was leaning over a large box. One of thick plastic and padded with old soft-looking blankets. A black cat lay panting, obviously ready to push out more kittens. “Ever help a cat have kittens?”

“Once. Mum didn’t like cats. Only kept them to keep down the mice and rodents. My brother and I liked them enough. Corse, I prefer dogs myself."

“Here. Keep this one warm. Mamma is having a bit of trouble. I think it’s just her first litter and she’s nervous.“ He handed over a tiny kitten wrapped in a pink blanket like a burrito. “You can help name them. Just hold her against your chest.”

Justin rarely saw Maynard in such a natural habitat. He knew he liked animals. Once they had visited his family, all the animals followed Maynard like a momma duck and her ducklings.

James was sitting on a table, swishing his feet in the air. “Have you told any of them?”

“No” Adam kept drawing with a thick black pen on the wall.

“Why?” James tilted his head to the left, red hair hanging down to his hips. “I told Rowen everything. It helped. Especially the nightmares and stuff.”

“They don’t need to know. “

“You should at least tell Justin. You two are a thing. More than you are with Dan or Nardy?”

“Yeah. But when he first started. He thought Reavers were just scary bedtime stories that parents tell their kids to keep them out of trouble. He freaked out when we were first chased and he was behind the wheel. Got us through it, and quite a few times after. Way better than Paul.”

“That guy sucked.” James jumped down from the table and walked over to his friend. “You need to tell them. If any of them Justin. He could help you when…” He leaned against the blank wall looking at his ex-classmate.

“Sleeping with someone especially him helps with the-”

“You still have nightmares too?” James took the painting pen from the other hand.

“They’re like all but gone. But you know what happens when people find out what we did.”

“This is different. I could feel it. The love those three have for you especially that pretty pilot is unconditional. I can tell. They ain’t gonna abandon you like. I just know.”

“You’re weird. But also probably right. You always were.”

“You mean highly intuitive, autistic, and the other half of the two that got away?”

“Don’t change. Like ever.”

“You know Rowen and I have an open relationship. You guys are the same right?”

“We’re all tangled pretty tight, but some of us venture out. But with Justin, I’m kinda scared I’ll scare him off.”

“You love intensely, and he fucks with Dan right?" James took Adam’s face in his small but thick paws, nails painted black.“Someone with that amount of energy can take it. Just talk to him.”

“Fine,” he grumbled.

“Hey, we have a spare bedroom upstairs. “ James glanced up at the ceiling. The second story of the restaurant was their friend's home. “Rowen won't be home till late, and we’re closed for the rest of the day.”

“We leave tomorrow.” He let the smaller man lead him to the stairs.

“Just stay till nightfall. It’s been way too long and we need to catch up. On things and not things.”

“What?”

“It just came out like that. You know what I meant.”

“After all these years, you still like me?” It wasn’t often that Adam felt safe enough to be intimate. Usually, by this point, someone left him. Maynard and Danny were the exceptions, and apparently, James was too. But he was terrified that Justin would wake up someday and do the same.

“Always. Besides we may have branched out but our roots are too deep to just let them rott.”

“Fucking hobbit.”

“Dino boy.” They had nicknames for each other that only they knew the meaning of. Once they reached the second floor James turned and looked up at the other. "Please promise me you'll talk to Justin. It's obvious you're completely in love with the guy. Rowen even mentioned how happy you both looked. So it’s not just you."

In the Solace Wedding Planning agenda, on the fifth page into their summer schedule, there are carefully scrawled out notes reading this: Bride and Groom - Hazel Levesque & Frank Zhang Best Man & Maid of Honor - Percy Jackson & Piper McLean Wedding Court - Annabeth Chase & Jason Grace Mellie & Gleeson Hedge Reyna Ramírez-Arellano & Leo Valdez Ring-bearer - Chuck Hedge Flower-boy - Nico di Angelo - Will plans wedding and now, apparently, Nico stars in one. Except...sometimes there's a bit more confusion on that last part. AKA the AU where Will plans weddings and thinks Hazel and Frank are going to have to cutest, gap-toothed ten year throwing flowers down the aisle, all while wondering why this 'Neeks' guy is always hanging around, and what business he has looking that good.

yes i am back on my rosyredlipstick (dude she's GOOD okay). however this one is my favourite i think. this is the kinda story you could use to explain to people what dramatic irony is bc LORD i wanted to SHAKE THEM 😭😭 will falling like deeply in love with nico and being intensely stressed about everything the whole time is so real and on brand. i love him and i love the fond exasperation that just bleeds from this fic its GREAT
